Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the fleck soon. I'm Ben Fletcher. That's Sammy
long time now, not like it got up hair. The
frenzy continues in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
The US does it again at the World Baseball Classic.
Brian Tucker and the Aztecs continue to get ready for
the Mountain West Curt event, and we will start from
the beginning.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Give me Santa Clara plus four and a half against
Saint Mary's in a WCC.

Speaker 4 (00:22):
That's how it starts.

Speaker 5 (00:23):
Give me the Knicks minus two and a half against
the Clippers.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
You always have such horrible idea.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
And then give me the Nuggets plus six and a
half taken on the thunder in Openma City.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
You figured it out, didn't you. You cracked the code.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Now we go to the San Diego Sports seven sixty
studios to get into the flet zone.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Yeah, it's own number two here on San Diego Sports
seven sixty. Ben Fletcher, semi long with you till two
o'clock today. John Schaeffer is gonna be taken over then
all right. We didn't really talk as much NFL in
the first hour today as we did yesterday because yesterday.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Was pure chaos. But things are going down today.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Too, So the Detroit Lion take the running back from
the Kansas City Chiefs as a Pachaco, you know, the
guy that runs like he's mad at the ground. He
is now in the Detroit Lions backfield to pair up
with Jamiir Gibbs replacing David Montgomery. I kind of love
that move. We'll get into it in a second. Patriots
land Romeo Dobbs on a four year deal. So this
was a highly sought after free agent wide receiver from

(01:19):
the Green Bay Packers who at times looked fantastic with
the Packers over the last couple of years, at times
looked a little forgettable for the Packers. Remember him in college,
he was an absolute menace. I think he cooked the
Aztecs for like two hundred and fifty yards when he
played against San Diego State. And then the Jets land
their quarterback Gino Smith, who we spent a lot of
time making fun of in the first hour. But let's
hit those other two because this is not only fantasy

(01:39):
football relevant, this is team relevant because with the New
England Patriots getting Romeo Dobbs, does that close the door
on a Mike Rabel.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Aj Brown reunion.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
I would think yes, it does close the door on
a Mike Rabel aj Brown reunion.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Well, as of a report fifteen minutes ago, it is
not closing the door what that was actually gonna be
the Big Three. But we can get to here. I
think the A I liked the Romeo Dobbs signing. I
actually think.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
I wanted him on the Niners, if I'm being completely honest.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
And Romeo Dobbs, the Packers receiving core the last couple
years has been a lot of B level guys like
Christian Watson was kind of thought of as the as
the best of that group, and then you had, you know,
Romeo Dobbs, and there's a collection of guys and it
just feels like no one ever had distinguished roles on
the team. And Romeo Dobbs is that kind of big play,

(02:30):
big target guy. I always thought he was actually the
best of all that group of receivers. Smart get for
the Patriots, you know, you get rid of Stefon Diggs,
you gotta get Drake my weapons because in the playoffs,
despite them getting to the super Bowl, I mean, there
were some pretty putrid offensive performances and against the Chargers
and the Broncos, the defense basically single handedly won those games.

(02:50):
And I can't put it all in Drake May because
a lot of that had to do had to do
with it that he didn't have a legit number one
to throw to. So Romeo Dobbs, I like this d
at twenty million per year and then we'll see AJ
Brown is so kind of dangling out there in the
team that I think is a dark horse for the
charge is the Chargers. Now AJ Brown? What have they

(03:12):
done exactly nothing, which is why I think they're gonna
rush and get him. AJ Brown is a list of
teams he wants to play for. It's the Pats, Chiefs, Chargers,
and I believe someone else. I think the Bills are
on that list as well.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
Well. The Bills got DJ Moore, and I.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Don't think the Chiefs are in the business of trading
much of draft picks for AJ Brown. The Pats or
the Chargers makes sense, and maybe the door is still open,
but it does feel like it's coming down the Pats
and the Chargers. If I'm AJ Brown, I'd probably want
to catch passes from Justin Herbert over Drake May. That's
just me personally, but it does feel like AJ Brown
is kind of one of the last big big names.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
See where he ends up landing.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Well, think about everybody that would have made sense with
the Chargers over the last couple of days that didn't happen.
Romeo Dubbs would have made a lot of sense to
go to the Los Angeles Chargers. Rashid Shahat literally played
high school ball here in southern California, would have made
a lot of sense to go to the Los Angeles Chargers.
He signs back with the Seahawks. Mike Evans would have
made a ton of sense to go to the Chargers.
He's now in San Francisco. So they've just missed out

(04:11):
on a bunch. And maybe that's because they're pursuing Trey Hendrickson,
and maybe that's because that's taken up all of their mindset,
which if they get them, worth it.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
But in the meantime, look at what you've missed out on.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
And all the highly valued free agent wide receivers are gone,
and now you may have to dip into.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
Your your your.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Trade value package and send something astronomical over to the
Eagles to get aj Brown because.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
They're asking for the moon.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
And so then you start to do the math and
the equation are like, the Chargers really going to go
after AJ Brown and Trey Hendrickson, whereas Romeo Dobbs, you
could have gotten on a cheaper deal, less so than
you would have had to end up paying AJ Brown
Rashichi Heat, same thing. And they missed the boat on
both of them. And now it's just what are the
Chargers actually gonna do? Because they need to get better
heading into next year. All right, let's get to the
Big three of our number two. Stay tuned for those

(04:56):
Elephant Valley tickets. They are coming up very very soon,
in fact, probably maybe deaf. Finally, right after the Big Three,
we're Sammy rips through the top stories in the world
of sports.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Sammy Smash your lunch break is here.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Ready to go back to the office and knock the
socks off your friends, I mean Coworkers's time for the
top stories of the day, A Big three, three.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
A five eight.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Texting into the show, we were talking about AJ Preller's
dining choices. He says, we know Aj likes to spend
on old things, overspend on old things, so he's probably
going to a classic steakhouse in scott Still, honey, he's
gonna order the Xander Bogarts off the menu.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Yeah ordered the was good six years ago.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
MVP candidate in twenty like eighteen, age.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
For ten years? Right?

Speaker 1 (05:41):
All right, Samy?

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Where we go? Uh?

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Kyler Murray is the favorite team to land him right
now is the Minnesota Vikings. If he goes to Minnesota.
What is the ceiling for that team next year? I
think it is what it was with Sam Darnold. I
really do like.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
I think that the Minnesota Vikings had a very similar
team this past season as they had when they won
fourteen games with Sam Darnold. However, the quarterback play was
lacking that much, and I think JJ McCarthy and the
uncertainty about him and the injury.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
He literally played one good quarter of football last year.
It was Primetime? Was it the Falcons they were playing against?

Speaker 5 (06:12):
I feel like it was it was the Bears the
fourth quarter on minn Iplas.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
That's right, Okay, it was a big moment for JJ McCarthy.
Outside of that, he was largely disappointing the entire season.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
So the defense wasn't that different.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
They still had Brian Flores as the defensive coordinator who
spent a great year of the year before, the offense
still had Justin Jefferson on it like it should have
been working.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
It just wasn't. With JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
I think Kyler Murray can slide in and make it
work easy out in Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
I do think Kyler Murray's interesting there because you have
Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and TJ.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Hockinson.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
You got a lot in Addison maybe well, I mean,
if he's out there, he's a great player.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
He is, but he is probably gonna be dealing with
another suspension.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
They I still don't think that their third in their division.
I mean, the only team I think that they could
jump would be Green Bay. I don't see them jumping
the Bears, and I don't see them jumping the Lions.
I think the Lions are having a big bounce back season.
They were a lot like the Chiefs to me.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
Last year.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
They got off to a rough start, could never really
clawed of the hole, and it felt like it kind
of kind of buried them. The Lions have too much
talent to have the exact same team they had last year,
and I think they're coming back with Avengers. It's just
such a tough division to be in.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Once better NFC North or NFC West. NFC NFC West
is more top heavy, NFC North is better throughout.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Yeah, I guess the Cardinal, like the Packers, are better
than the Cardinals. If you're equating the third best or
the last place team, the Vikings are better than the Cardinals.
I don't know if you're Kyler Murray that the Vikings
have the best ability to make you a star. Again,
I don't know if that necessarily equates to winning games
because you're going to a brutal division, but that I

(07:56):
mean now, if Pittsburgh has become attractive, I think if
you're Kyler Murray and that Michael Pittman's there and DK Metcalf,
that's a nasty.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
Little receiving duo.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
In last year with Aaron Rodgers, it felt like they
saw what happened. You had DK Metcalf, who's unbelievable, but
teams just figured out DK Metcalf was really the only
offensive piece there. They signed ric o'dowbell. I actually like
what Pittsburgh's done in free agency so far. If I'm
Kyler has to be between Pittsburgh and Minnesota, I.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Would go to Minnesota because of the fact that Kevin
O'Connell's the head coach in Minnesota, and I think that
gives you a better opportunity to advance yourself as a
quarterback than Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Does in the NFC.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
While even if Kyler goes there, I'm not sitting here
saying Minnesota's going far in the NFC because don't think
they're winning their division. I think they're a fringe playoff team.
It isn't interesting in that the NFC does feel pretty
wide open, like the Rams should be the favorites.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
I think the Rams should be the Super Bowl favorites today. Yes,
I think a lot can change between now and the
start of the season.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
The NFC just feels wide open because the Bears definitely
benefited off a bad schedule.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
But I think they're gonna be better.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
I think the Bears are gonna be good now year,
and I think Caleb Williams continues all with the progression.
But we always talk about this with the Broncos, the
amount of close games they won. The Bears did the
same thing, like, are they gonna be able to have
that same success in the same late game heroics that
they had this last year?

Speaker 3 (09:11):
You think in timely turnovers. Not to mention the Commanders
are back in the picture. Looks like the Bucks are
falling back. There's there's a lot up in the air.
The Niners. Your Niners are good, but can they stay healthy?
I mean, I don't know there's a lot will stay healthy.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
We're gonna bomb that EMF station or whatever the electrical
substation is.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Get them the hell away from that. It's next Sammy.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Biggest free agent left. Biggest free agent heading into free
agency is Trey Hendrickson. Been linked to the Bears, been
linked to the Chargers, bling to the Colts, and the
favorite is Dallas. Where should Trey Hendrickson want to go?

Speaker 4 (09:46):
He's thinking about his pocket books, he wants to go
to Dallas if he's thinking about winning. Be hard for
me not to say the Chargers, Like, I know, we
just kind of railed on the Chargers for not doing.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Anything here.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
And knowing that his three of the Chargers most likely
they're not gonna be doing a whole lot of winning.
But man, I like the roster, and I like the
coaching moves they've made, and I like the fact that
Mike McDaniels is there, And I as much as I
can't stand Jim Harbaugh. I like the fact that he's
their head coach. There's a lot to like with this
Chargers team. You add an elite level pass rusher to it,
and you make a move, whether it's Aj Brown or

(10:20):
a different wide receiver that you can bring in and
add some juice to this offense.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
I really like what the Chargers have.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
Going into next year, and I think Trey Hendrickson would
be the perfect addition to the team.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
He should want to be a Dallas Cowboy, the Dallas Cowboys.
I know you don't believe me with how good Dallas
can mean next year.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
I get that they're gonna be good, But is this
not the same exact conversation we were just having about
the Dallas Cowboys and Max Crosby, Like, you're making the
same mistake.

Speaker 5 (10:47):
Yeah, but you're not trading draft capital for them.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Max Crosby's a better pass orscher than Trey Hedrickson, but
you're not giving away a boatload of picks. I just
think the division's wide open. The Giants are gonna be
a fun team next year. They're still young and it's
gonna take them a minute to get that together. Washington
should be excited with Daniels coming back, but that's a
very flawed roster and the Eagles, like, are we just
to assume that the Eagles are gonna win the division?

(11:12):
I mean, the Eagles have made no moves and hanging
over their heads is AJ Brown drama. And they didn't
fire Nick Sirianni. They didn't fire Nick Sirianni. Jalen Carter,
there was a report the other day they were taking
calls on him. I just feel like the Eagles are
running the same team back and they're getting a little
bit old. And then it leaves the Dallas Cowboys down
the stretch there. The Cowboys are playing really good football again,

(11:33):
kind of like the Chiefs, kind of like the Lions
dug themselves a massive hole at the start of the
season and just mathematically couldn't crawl themselves out of it.
This is one of the best offenses in football. And
if this defense is a top fifteen defense, if it's
a top ten defense, which could happen with Quinn Williams,
if you signed Trey Hendrickson and you just throw everything
at the draft defensively, I think the Cowboys could win

(11:56):
that division.

Speaker 5 (11:56):
I actually think it's a better opportunity to win.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Because although the Chargers will be a good team this year,
I mean the Chargers are good. Denver did have a
good record last year, the Chiefs an Walker coming back,
and how the Raiders have had a great free agency
so far. So that division ANFC West is a brutal,
brutal division.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
No squeeze a litle more in.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
Here, all right, h.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Dana White, I don't know, Okay, So if people saw
this zoofo boxing has become a thing. Is new boxing
league that Dana White has created with Turkey alais chic.
They've been having a couple of fights. They had their
fourth card on Sunday. Jayapati beat Brandon Glanton. Anyway, after
I'm mother after the fight and though there's a lot

(12:39):
of drama leading up to this fight, by the way,
with the IBF not sanctioning the fight in all the
regulation regulating bodies saying that this boxing league they wouldn't
sanction it.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
It's very complicated.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
But anyway, Dana White, after absolutely evisceraates boxing promoters, says
they have no idea what they're doing, single handedly calls
out Bob Aarum, Oscar Dale Hoya and Eddie Hearn saying
he's coming to take every fighter that has legit talent
and boxing. Does he have a point about boxing promoters
over the years, and do we believe that Dana White
will be able to accomplish what he's done in the

(13:10):
UFC with boxing, Sammy.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
Do me a favor and repost that Instagram post from
Att Fletch and Sammy, you can hit that little repost
button that way our followers can see it. And if
you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it, go
give us a follow on Instagram. Dana White is in
his bag when he's doing stuff like this, and probably
the best part of Dana White is that he has
the years and years to back this up and go
after Oscar de la Hoya and go after Ario Holwati,

(13:34):
and go after Eddie Hearn for starting his own little thing,
because Dana does have the resumeated back it all up. Now,
I'll tell you where Dana's gonna struggle here moving forward.
Dana's got too much going on and the UFC is
starting to struggle with it. Like understand what your bell
COOWI is, Sammy. I told you this before the show,
But there was an era where Seth McFarlane was just
doing Family Guy, and Family Guy was probably the best

(13:54):
animated TV show of all time, maybe Simpson's whatever.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
For the sake of the argument, let's go with Family
Guy being the best.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
And then he started making an American Dad, and for a
while Sethan Farland was trying to do both, but American
Dad was getting a little more love, and American Dad
was a better show than Family Guy during that time,
and then he switched back to Family Guy and the
same thing happened.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
This is what Dana White's doing.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
He has boxing, now, he has Power Slap, now, he
has the UFC. Still, what's happening with the UFC lately?
It's struggling, it's hurting. Do we all see the White
House card that got literally cobbled together two weeks before
the fight.

Speaker 5 (14:24):
They've had a year to get us, by the way,
for the fights on that card as.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
They should be, they're not very good. You got star power,
but that's it. You don't have good matchups. So when
you look at what Dana White's doing right now, it
does feel like he is two spread thing and he's
trying to do too many different things, where if he
just focused on the one thing that we all love
Dana White for the UFC, maybe that product would be
a little bit better.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Well, As a boxing fan, I'm excited that Dana White
has entered the space because that's what it's He's right
to answer the first part of the question. He's right
that all these promoters have hurt the sport over the years,
Oscar Dan La Hoya, Bob Aarram, Andie Herd. I think
it has been good for the sport.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
But I do love what he was saying. So he's like,
I put on forty two events this year, what have
they done? I mean, do they even have a TV deal?
Because if you're if you're a box it's just like business.
If you're Ostre de la Joya and you have two
fighters from your Golden Boys stable who can fight, and
you get to keep all the profits of all the money,
versus making a deal with Bob Aerum and ESPN formerly

(15:19):
was their broadcast partner, Eddie hern and Matchroom.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
You have to split the profits. So business wise, people
fight in their own stable. We haven't gotten the fights
we've wanted to see over the years. Now with Dana
White trying to create a boxing league, he's having to
overpay average fighters to come get them to join. Connor
Ben is an example of this. He's a big deal
in London in England, not such a big deal in
the States. They paid him fifteen million dollars for one

(15:43):
fight to come fight under the ZUFA Boxing promotion and
he've already started to see former UFC fighters. Current UFC fighters,
mainly Israel Atasania spoke out about this and was like, wait,
are you kidding me? Like connor Ben's getting paid fifteen
million dollars. I'm not trying to take money away from them,
but I'm a bigger star than Connor Ben. Israel Atisani's
biggest payday ever was against his was against Alex Pereira.

(16:06):
In the second fight, he only made three point five million.
Connor Ben has making fifteen million to fight REGIS programs
in something that's not even close to the level of
a fight there. So Dana White, if he can accomplish
the boxing league and getting all the big fighters under
one stable, it's great, but it's going to be really
hard to do, and it does feel like it's taken
away from the UFC a little bit, and the UFC

(16:28):
is lacking some star power so it'll be interesting to
see if both fighters boxers and UFC fighters start getting
jealous of each other and pode.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
The fight world is heading into a pretty interesting era.
I can't wait to see what happens next. All right,
the Mountain West has announced the All Mountain West teams,
the All Mountain West defensive teams, and all the players
of the year.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Will tell you what Aztec Scott what.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
On the other side, it's San Diego Sports seven sixty
live on my Heart Radio. Mountain West third team, No,
Aztec made All Mountain West first Team and BJ Davis
did not get Mountain West sixth Man of the Year.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Carson Templan if Utah State.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
Got it, that's crazy.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Jared Calhoun of Utah State one Coach of the Year,
So not a whole lot of astecs in it now.
Miles Bird did win Defensive Player of the Year in
the Mountain West, which I do think is well deserved.
Think about some of the games he's had with five steals,
three or four blocks. Like Miles Bird has been a
menace defensively.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
All I don't like if.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
The awards are just going to become whoever is number
one in the conference.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
See for coaching in the Mountain West. I do think
Coach of the Year should just be whichever team wins
the Mountain West regular season, because it's such a grind,
it's such a hassle.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Now this is the last one ever.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
I would have loved to see Dutch get it, but frankly,
I think Dutch would tell you Jared Calhoun probably deserved
it this year.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
I just don't like in sports we've gone to this
narrative of like the Heisman, one of the prestigious awards
in all sports, right, it's a quarterback award unless someone
has an unbelievable as a corner in a return like
it just the chance of it happening.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
And if Jeremiah Smith was he the last non quarterback, he.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Was the last non quarterback to get it. And then
the last defensive player was either an Admikan Sue or
Desmond Howard I can't remember which one it was. And
then NFL MVP has become a quarterbacks award. I mean,
Jonathan Taylor to the first two to three months of
the season I think was the MVP, but there was
no chance that he was going to get that. It
does feel like I mean, obviously I'm reading into it

(18:20):
a little bit, but if it just becomes who is
like at the top, Like Coach of the Year is
always just a team that went from worse to first
always in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
Yeah, which Kevin Stefanski won it twice while he was
the Cleveland Browns head coach. That tells you all you
need to know about Coach of the Year. I mean
did he was doing it with like ten different quarterbacks.
He was doing it with one of the worst contracts
I would say the worst contract in NFL history on
his side.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
But yeah, so I would agree with you.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
I think awards for the most part are kind of dumb,
like the year that San Diego State had Malachie Flynn
and kJ Fagan. Malachi Flynn somehow won Defensive Player of
the Year in the Mountain West. kJ Fagan is the
best college basketball on ball defender I've seen in my life.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
He was that good. So it is kind of silly.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
But Milesburg, congratulations Mountain most Defensive Player of the Year.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
I think well deserved.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Shots at Milesberg. Are you surprised that Utah State is
the betting favorite because a little bit, if you think
about it, a they have the least motivation of any
team in the Mountain West to win, because they're gonna
be in March madness no matter what.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Well, let's rip through these odds, Shally and we can
have this conversation.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
So per I believe this is fan duel.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Who has these odds if you're looking for them, Utah
State plus one eighty five, San Diego State right behind
them at plus three seventy, New Mexico at plus five
fifty Grand Canyon plus five fifty, Boise plus six fifty,
Nevada plus eighteen hundred, Colorado State, who has been on
a tear at plus twenty five hundred. Now a lot

(19:46):
of that is because Colorado State has a pretty rough
road to get.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
And they got to play another game, even though it's
against Fresno State, right they got to play.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
Four games, which Nevada does too. I can't believe the
disparity between Nevada and Colorado State. I would have thought
coming into this just based on how these two teams
are playing. Colorado State should have the upper hand on Nevada,
but Colorado State, if they get past President State, will
have San Diego State, and that's a really tough road.
So you can acknowledge that UNLV plus five thousand, the
way they finished off their year, they're one of the

(20:13):
hotter teams in the Mountain White.

Speaker 5 (20:14):
And they're playing at home. That's some serious value.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
Right Drake Gibbs.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
Lawhorn is the type of player who can absolutely win
you a game on his own. He goes off for
thirty five Watchout World Day and he's almost saw that
at Via House Arena the other night. Wyoming sixty five hundred,
Fresno State doesn't matter. San Jose State doesn't matter. Air
Force doesn't matter. Could you imagine if air Force goes
on a run didn't win a single Mountain West regular
season game Owen twenty and even if they win one,

(20:39):
could you imagine.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Conference tournaments or my favorite things to bet because you
can find serious value with teams that need it, like
Utah State for example. The mount West, like I was
just getting to, is the favorite.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
As they should be. They've been the best Mountain West
Conference team so far this season.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
They're not playing close to the best ball.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
They're not playing like it. And again, motivation they don't need.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
They're gonna be hear their name called on selection Sunday,
whether they lose in the first round or they win
the entire tournament. San Diego State, everyone else needs it badly,
so you have a lot of value in these conference tournaments.
Like tonight you have Santa Clara playing in Zaga. Santa
Clara needs it way more than in Zaga and Saint
Mary's did because they just need to get into Attorney.
So from a gambling perspective, you can find a lot

(21:23):
of value kind of down the charts in the Big twelve,
the SEC. I mean, look at the Big twelve, Iowa State, Kansas, Arizona,
I mean, Houston, They're all gonna be in the tournament.
So although, yeah, do you want to win the Big
twelve tournament, Yes, it's not really the end of the
world if you don't. Whereas some of these teams genuinely
West Virginia needs it for their playoff lives. So you

(21:44):
can find some real gambling value this week.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
By the way, anybody who was watching Troy last night
win the is it the sun Belt? I think it's
the Sun Belt Championship and make their way to the
NCAA Tournament. It should have been a surprise, but you
got a great value on it if you were betting it.
All right, San Diego Sports seven to sixty break here,
and we got a hilarious text we got to react to.
On the other side. It's San Diego Sports seven sixty.
You're listening live on my Heart radio app, and we
wish Kat the best. Yeah, she's been out sick. Quote

(22:10):
huge tennis fan. Oh she is huge tennis fan.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
I do know.

Speaker 5 (22:14):
She was a tennis fan.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
Huge tennis fan and goes to the BNP paira By
every year. I'm conspiracy theory in it. Kat's not actually sick.
She's at the BNP Parabo Open.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
Kat is a tennis fan.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Because she's handled chemo every like. You wouldn't know she
was going through chemos you were talking. She's been a
champ like, she hasn't had any of the side effects.
And supposedly she's sick right now. I actually think she's
out in Indian.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
Wells watching text that right now.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
I did, and I sent a picture of the screen here.
And he's also kind of in love with Francis Tiafo.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
Who is it, Sammy Long?

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (22:46):
That's for sure?

Speaker 4 (22:47):
All right, it's San Diego Sports seven sixty. I want
to get to a little winter. Losers of the NFL
Free Agency, NFL Legal Tampering window, and will do so
here in just a second. But I did want to
read this coming in on the text. Oh no, sorry,
Connor McGovern the Buffalo Bills Center. I don't know if
this just happened, like probably thirty minutes ago. Connor McGovern

(23:08):
just resigned a four year, fifty two million dollar deal
with the Buffalo Bills. And so what does he do
in his press conference, shows up with a bunch of
pizzas that he bought for the entire Bill's media crew,
for the entire Bills reporters. That's the coolest thing ever.
So if I ever fall into a big sum of cash, Sammy,
I'm buying pizzas for the entire building.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
I don't want pizzas. I want something a little bit
more than that.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
Yeah, but I want pizza, Like I'm kind of hungry
for pizza right now. After seeing that video from Connor McGovern.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Speaking of the Bills, the Buffalo Bills they got DJ Moore,
DJ Moore, is that that's big?

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Does that put you over the hump?

Speaker 4 (23:43):
By the way, the Bears fix their problem right away,
djmore going out. They just brought in a wide receiver
who they're bringing.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Oh Raymond from the Lions, Detroit Lions. I don't like
the Ravens made a big swing in Max Crosby and
does that put a lot of pressure on them jackson
one hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Look, Sammy, you're gonna roll your eyes here, but the
Buffalo Bills are gonna be just fine. They were literally
a broken foot away from being in the super Bowl
this year.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
Well, first off, they are just fine. They're just fine
every year. That's what they are. They're fine to okay,
and they don't win in big games. This is not
even ripping Josh Allen. I think the Bills kind of
help this guy. I mean, at some point, Josh Allen
to all the point everyone's mate, and I will still
hold on that Josh Allen does not play the biggest

(24:29):
in the biggest games.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
But that's a conversation for another day.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Josh Allen to the point about the broken foot, and
I mean he willed them to a win against Jacksonville.
Josh Allen completely won that game by himself. If I'm
a Buffalo Bills fan today and then we got a
few listening because they text me all the time.

Speaker 5 (24:46):
Hate from as a Chiefs fan.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Texas seven zero four seven zero start your mess with
a team is DJ Moore? If I'm Josh Allen, am
I happy that the big offseason acquisition was DJ Moore
with no changes to defense so far in free agency whatsoever.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
Look, it's something right. The Buffalo Bills needed DJ Moore
last year they didn't have him. We can talk all
we want about the end of that game against the Broncos,
but there were also some pretty bad calls at the
end of that game that we all remember. Josh Allen
was also playing on a broken.

Speaker 5 (25:15):
Foot that he also turned the ball over four times.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
He also turned the ball over four times. That's all
very true.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
But you can't sit here and say the Buffalo Bills
would have been a worse opponent than the Patriots were
for the Seahawks and the Super Bowl. Like I think
we all agree, it would have been a much better
football game. In fact, I would probably have the Buffalo
Bills as the favorite.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
Anything would have been a better game than what we got.
But that doesn't mean that they got there. They didn't
get there.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
True.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
All right, Well, let's do a little winners and losers
of the first day of the legal tampering window.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
And look who just jumped in the studio.

Speaker 5 (25:41):
Hi, Jay Ran, what's up dude?

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Hi?

Speaker 5 (25:43):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (25:44):
Guy? Look at him? He's so handsome. He's got a
little beard scruff going on.

Speaker 6 (25:47):
That beard scruff will be going down the drain of
your sink tonight.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Oh that's kind of gross. It's also a weird way
of saying I don't.

Speaker 6 (25:54):
Have headphone, Sammy, so you're gonna have to scream through
the soundproof class.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
What do we do this? Now? It's good to burn
my ears out, But there you go.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
I got headphones in here for Rifkin if he was
coming gets some, Oh yeah, I'll just grab those. How
about that?

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Winners and losers of the legal tampering window opening up
in the NFL. I do think we start with the
biggest winner in so far. For me, it is the
Las Vegas Raiders, who are protecting their quarterback, their rookie
quarterback for Nando Mendoza, who have made some big most
to the offensive line. They bring in some skill players,
they bring in some defenders. They get rid of a
massive contract in Max Crosby that they'll now use to

(26:27):
kind of supplement the team around a young quarterback. Maybe
not for this year the Raiders are the biggest winners,
but for the next five years. You feel like this
was the most productive last two days of the last
six years of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
I agree with you on the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
The Raiders made smart decisions that wasn't always the sexiest signings.
I mean, Lennarbaum signing a center is great for the diehards,
but that doesn't help you win. At the press conference,
you know when you when you trade Max Crosby, you're
gonna get crushed. But I mean, look what they've been
able to do in the past week.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
I think Naylor is a great addition to the wide
receiver room too.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Taylor, I mean talking about Nkobe Dean and Kwai Walker,
former two inmates at Georgia at the linebacker spots. I mean,
that's a big deal for them and Linderbaum. Look at
what the Chargers have dealt with for years. I mean,
Justin Herbert has had a horrible interior offensive line play
and he's been sacked at a clip that we haven't
seen outside of Caleb Williams the last few seasons. They
saw that in their own division and were like let's

(27:18):
go get Linderbaum. I think that was a big pick
up for them. I'm gonna go with to Pittsburgh Steelers.
I think the Steelers have actually had a really good
free agency. If they get a quarterback, well yeah, that's
a whole different conversation.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
But I'm talking.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
About if they get Kyler Murray. This was a really,
really good last couple of days.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
That's fair.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
But Michael Pittman, I don't know why the Colts gave
up on him. That doesn't make any sense to me
to pay Alec Pearce and Michael Pittman did all the
dirty works, so Alec Pierce could be the deep ball guy.
Now you give Dk metcalf a number two receiver and
Rico o'dowell quietly two years in a row over a
thousand yards rushing. They haven't had an elite running back
in Pittsburgh in years, So I quietly like that they're

(27:56):
kind of investing in the offense because the Pittsburgh Steelers'
offense the last four to five seasons has been pretty
futriod at times.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
I think the Steelers had a couple directions to go
after this last season. They could have gone to a full
tank mode job, and I would have been okay with that.
In fact, I would have been fine with it. I say, okay,
the Steelers making sense. They're going to move on from TJ.
Watt stockpile a bunch of draft picks and that works.
But instead they're deciding to go, you know, we could
retool this and actually make it work. So they're sticking
with the last couple of years of prime TJ. Watt
and they're building the offense because they know they got

(28:23):
the defense kind of handled. I like the Steelers are
doing too. They would certainly be in my winners category.
I think the Chiefs and the Niners both got better
over the last couple of days. I would have them
both in my winners category. I might put the the
Denver Broncos in my biggest losers category. So today they
released Drey green Law, who injury prone, yes, but as
an absolute problem in a menace on the defense.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
And they also lost Franklin yesterday.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Who if you were watching last year, he was one
of the best interior pass rushers in all football. Last
year they lose him to the Tennessee Titans. The Denver
Broncos have gotten far worse over the last couple of days,
and I if anyone's projecting them to just run away
with the AFC West next year, I don't see it.

Speaker 5 (29:03):
Well.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
To the point about the Chiefs and Niner, I think
the Chiefs genuinely got better yesterday, getting a running back
in you know, Gilman at the safety spot. I like
what they did in Tonga defensive tackle. When the Broncos
and the Chargers, the Chargers, I think people had to
or still have reason to be excited for next year.
You're getting Slater back, getting Joalt back, but you lose
Zion Johnson. You've made no moves whatsoever. Again, It's could

(29:27):
all change. If they signed Trey Hendrickson. I'm gonna have
a different take on the Chargers. But I mean, I
thought the whole point was to get more explosive offensively.
I thought they were gonna be in on one of
these receivers. So far, the receiver market has completely shored up.
The Niners stole Mike Evans from them. I thought he
was going to the Chargers. So unless aj Brown is
packing his bags to Los Angeles tonight, I don't know

(29:47):
what the Chargers have done. I mean, you resign Khalil
Mack who's thirty six, thirty seven, You got Derwin James
thirty two. They just feel like they're kind of getting
a little bit old on defense. And then to the
to your Broncos point, that team won one score games
against the Jets, Giants, Chiefs, third stringers, the Commanders. I mean,
they feasted on a bad schedule last year, and I'm

(30:08):
saying the Bronco was gonna be bad. But to think
that they're just gonna be right back at the top
with no moves made, I was gonna give no team
the Packers. The Packers losing Dobbs, you trade with Shaun Gary.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
So Christian Watson's their wide receiver. One.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
Now, when's the last time Christian Watson played an entire
NFL season. I'll answer the question for you never. I've
never played a full NFL season.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Because if you're the Packers, you think Jordan Love. We
talked about Lamar Jackson and pressure, Josh Allen, all the
kind of usual suspects. At some point, Jordan Love has
to win a couple of playoff games sure to justify
the contract he got in.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
And I don't think then, how many straight years of
being the seventh.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
Seed three straight years of being the number seven st
seed in the NFC, and now you have. I mean,
the Lions missed playoffs last year, They're gonna be back
in the picture. And now Caleb Williams is one of
the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. So the Packers,
I think little disappointing.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
This free agent say, I can't leave it.

Speaker 4 (31:00):
I'm honestly flabbergasted that when you were talking about the
Chiefs you didn't mention Travis Kelcey coming back to the
Chiefs on a one year deal.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
We're twelve.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
That was always gonna happen, and he says Taylor Swift
was his inspiration to come back for his fourteenth season.
Oh my god, the love story just keeps getting better.
Shout out, Shout out to t Swift, Shout out to
c Swift.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
How special is that?

Speaker 6 (31:20):
Hi?

Speaker 1 (31:20):
J Riff, Hey guys, how are you?

Speaker 6 (31:23):
It's been really fun to listen to you whenever I
fill in for Shaeffer, I pop you guys on for
two hours on that Huh gorgeous, I hurt User Friendly,
I hurt radio app and uh it's really I've never
screamed my iPad more in my life.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Oh what are you screaming about?

Speaker 5 (31:36):
Sports? Okay?

Speaker 1 (31:38):
What is the hardest sports a play in the world?

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Is that?

Speaker 6 (31:40):
Coming up next, I am going to psychoanalyze why these
boys are so disconnected from the reality that golf is
not a difficult sport. What you're gonna lose that art?
You don't understand. I already have a poor relationship with sleep,
and since you guys have put this publicly out there,

(32:00):
it has persistently regressed. So why don't we thank you
for that? I'm put I'm putting you guys responsible for my.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Emotional state right now, why don't we do this? We're
gonna give away some tickets right now, and.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
Joys some tickets.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Can we let Jay Riff pick the collor numbers?

Speaker 5 (32:14):
Is that okay?

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Call it number eight? Collar number eight.

Speaker 4 (32:16):
You're gonna win a family four packet tickets to the
brand new Elephant Valley out of the San Diego Zoo
Safari Park. Call eight seven seven seven sixty seven four
seven sixty and we'll see why Jay Riff's.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Panties are in a twist.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
Coming up, nest, it's San Diego Sports seven sixty live
on I Heart Radio app.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
So rift get we need to report back because he's
claimed that it's a coat rack.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
And currently not even lying one expensive coat rack.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
Jay Riff's comforter went in the wash last night and
it is currently hanging on the pelton.

Speaker 6 (32:44):
I was worried you weren't going to wash it, so
thank you for that. That was scary. So tell us,
tell us why golf is not a hard sport. Well,
first of all, you guys have to you guys did
a very poor job because there were like nine different
conversations in one and then Sammy went on some we're
a tangent about bob sledding that nobody asked for. I
was not a sport Bob slo It's absolutely bobli absolutely more.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
So, here do we need to talk about bouncy bob
sled babes again because we can.

Speaker 5 (33:13):
Well, I'm not saying they're not, they're fun.

Speaker 6 (33:15):
Is running on the beach of sports? Then by that
that's an absolutely okay. So that's the thing is, like
number one, you guys have to define what you even
think of sport is and what criteria and media. We
don't have enough time. So here's what I think. I
don't think that this is about whether golf is a
sport or not at all. What I truly think it's
about is Sam, you play golf.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Try, I mean, it plays me.

Speaker 6 (33:34):
But you're an aspiring like golf like you want to
work that into the mix.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
We have fun with drinks, we have fun.

Speaker 6 (33:39):
I'm not going to stop stop avoiding you want golf
is in.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
The mix for you?

Speaker 5 (33:44):
Yeah, but I'm not a good one.

Speaker 6 (33:45):
You say that golf is the sport that you play
the most consistently.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Honestly, since I got out of high school, probably.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Yeah, life comes at you facts. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
My dad told me when I was like seventeen years old,
I should take golf and for the rest of your
life golf is going to be the sport that is likely.

Speaker 6 (33:59):
This this the consistent one, right, yeah.

Speaker 5 (34:01):
Because at some point I'm not going to be able
to go to the wreck and hoop.

Speaker 6 (34:04):
So what this is about is you guys are protecting
your athletic identities, and that's totally fine.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
You guys don't play, you don't play other sports.

Speaker 6 (34:13):
So you're like, oh, but if if golf isn't a
hard sport, then first I must not be a real athlete,
and I have to convince myself that an So I'm
going to make the case that this thing is a sport.
Is my athletic ID that's what's happening. First off, we
do play other sports. I was in a reg basketball
league and a softball league. Hell yeah, what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
There more sports than professional golf.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
But to be a to be a good golfer is
one of the hardest things.

Speaker 6 (34:38):
Why are there are more professional golfers than any other
professional sports outlet.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
A living but the thresho.

Speaker 6 (34:47):
Okay, but a g league basketball player is closer to
an NBA the best album player, don't the worst professional
golfer is to Tiger Woods.

Speaker 1 (34:54):
No, there's like can make a.

Speaker 6 (34:55):
Living off of golf when the league players making forty
two grand a year, there's like eighty.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
Golfers on the planet on any given basis right now
that you're just saying.

Speaker 6 (35:02):
That the margin of error to be a professional golfer
is a lot greater that it's a lot smaller for.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
The orange ferry sore mofo check out. Trying to finish
that is a difficult sport. It is not one of
the most difficult sports you.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
Have to go.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
But the fact that you put f one at number
two when you have boxing in the UFC and football
is absolutely criminal criminal.

Speaker 6 (35:24):
I agree, we are j ten beats per minute corners.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
They all have impressive next they really do because they
got to be on the standard.

Speaker 5 (35:35):
Says hey, Oprah, stop psychoanalyzing.

Speaker 6 (35:37):
Yeah, Oprah, that's somebody who needs to be psychoanalyzed.

Speaker 4 (35:40):
We'll see all tomorrow. Great Wednesday show coming up. John
Shafer coming up next to He has more tickets to
the San diego Zo Spire Park.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Bye.
