Despite losing four of our last five games, we're a
game out of first with one game to play.

Speaker 6 (00:20):
We need some help, obviously, but we have to help
ourselves first play.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
In a very good UNLB team at all.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hotter Spring training continues after yesterday's beatdown of the Mariners.

Speaker 5 (00:29):
Yeah, it's spring training, but twenty seven runs is twenty
seven runs and SEFC their first road test after two

Classic continues.

Diego Sports seven sixty inside the Flex Shows.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, let's get it going on off fry day. What's
going on? Everybody?

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Ben Fletcher's Sammy long with you till two o'clock today.
We got Astacs hoops coming up tonight. It's a very
busy weekend here on San Diego Sports seven sixty, So
welcome in. Enjoy the next couple of hours because I
know we will. We got a first time guest coming
on the show. A lot of you know him because
of social media. Some of you may know him because
of a new podcast he started with John Schaefer and
Kevin Acy, but DSG Matt from Divine Sports Gospel Social

(01:50):
He and his brother started a Twitter page and now
all of a sudden, he's huge in terms of padres talk.
So we're gonna get Matt from Divine Sports Gospel on in.
We're twelve thirty, right, Sammy.

Speaker 7 (02:01):
Yes, We're gonna talk to Matt about what it's like
to be in the same room or on a call
with Kevin ac for over an hour, Like what goes
into that? What goes into show prep with Kevin A C.
We're gonna get all the details behind the scenes.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
So I'm excited to get to know Matt.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
I've heard he's a great guy for years, and I've
been a fan of his content. But I'm excited to
get to know him because of one thing and one
thing only. And Sammy, I haven't talked to you about this,
but when you told me that you've been dming with
Matt and you got him on the show, I thought
about one thing, and I said, this dude broke Gryffin
Canning to the Padres while out of casino.

Speaker 7 (02:35):
Oh, I didn't idea with this show. Yeah, he was fantastic.
He's just rolling around the casino with a beer in
his hand, and.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
All of a sudden he's like, Hey, Gryffin Canning's coming
to the Padres tomorrow, so stay tuned for that. And
then the very next day it happened. So that's what
I want to talk to him about. What's his game
of the casinos? He craps guys, he a blackjack guy.
What does Matt get down with but excited to get
to know him. That's coming up at twelve thirty today.
We got huge UFC fights this weekend. We actually have
a huge main event boxing fight coming to San Diego
next month that we'll talk about a little bit, and

(03:04):
we'll get into some NFL free agency ahead of NFL
free agency opening up next week. So let's get into
it all here on San Diego Sports seven to sixty again.
If it's your first time joining us, my name is
Ben Fletcher, that's Sammy Long.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Thank you for being here.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
You'll actually get a double dose of us tonight because
we're also heading out to the Aehas Arena tonight to
do prear average for San Diego State UNLV, which is
where I want to start. And Sammy, you brought this
up yesterday talking about kind of the momentum that needs
to be carried into the Mountain West Tournament for San
Diego State, and it's valid, and it's one hundred percent
valid for tonight's game, like that is what you're playing
for sure. If things break a certain way in the

(03:37):
Mountain West over the next couple of days here, san
Diego State actually still has a chance to walk away
with a share of the regular season title.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
That's crazy to me. It is crazy.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
But this is the problem with like New Mexico, Utah State,
San Diego State. All of them keep losing, so they've
all fallen back and nobody's caught up. It's a bizarre
conference the Mountain West. But San Diego State does still
have a shot to hang a banner for the regular season,
which I cannot even explain how that's possible, but it is.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
But for San Diego State to night, here's what I.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Am looking for me personally, sitting on the sidelines, nothing
to do with anything. I would really love to see
this team just ratchet up the defense to the highest
point we've seen it all year. Like Brian Dutcher team's
year in year out. We always see it as the
beginning of the season, maybe the offense is a little
ahead of the defense, and then all of a sudden,
the defense catches up and they become a top ten,
top fifteen team in the country in terms of defensive efficiency. Well,

(04:29):
this year it's been bizarre because there's been games where
they have that lockdown defense and they look like a
really damn good team and they out rebound and they
play great we.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Haven't seen it over the last few weeks.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
The defense has not matched up to what I imagine
when I close my eyes and think about a Brian
Dutcher led team. But I know it's possible for this
team to play that defense consistently. So if they want to,
they can go out and play great defense tonight and
see what happens on the offensive side, and they could
honestly run through the Mountain West Tournament just by playing
great defense. But we haven't I seen it consistently. Can

(05:01):
we see it start tonight? That's the one thing I'm
looking for in this game.

Speaker 7 (05:04):
I also I'm curious tonight because let's just keep it
a buck. They got punked earlier this week, and when
you get out rebound in the.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Last three games, they've been absolutely punked.

Speaker 7 (05:15):
Exactly the word, and especially this week, when you get
out rebounded thirty seven to fifteen. That's Rebounding is not
always about this, but they always say, whether you're you know,
coaching high score the NBA, it's about who wants it more.
And some of the best rebounders. Look at Dennis Robman
the NBA. Dennis Robman should not have been the best
rebounder of all time. He just was an absolute menace
on the boards. You're expecting a pissed off Astecs team tonight.

(05:39):
It is senior night. You gotta have some momentum going
in next week. Personally, for me, if they get to
share the Mountain West Conference regular season title, great, I
don't really care about that. I just think that the
expectations for this program are way past. Oh, we're sharing
a regular season title in the mount West and it's great.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I'm not.

Speaker 7 (05:58):
If it happens, that's fantastic and it should celebrated. But
this is a team two years ago that was playing
in the National Championship Game, and it has kind of
felt like the last few years a perennial Sweet sixteen team.
I know last year they got beat in the first four,
but that's kind of been the expectation, and you gotta
have some momentum going in next week. I agree with
you Fletch. On defense. It's been up and down at

(06:18):
times this year. They've played excellent Brian Dutchers style defense,
and then at times they've looked a little lost. In
the last two games, it was this week it was
rebounding and last Saturday it was free throws. They missed
a lot of free throws. They missed nine total free
throws on the road. That just can't happen. They're ten
to a half point favorites tonight. You expect the arena
to be rocking in. We're not gonna not it till

(06:39):
next week. If they go out and destroy UNLV tonight,
we're gonna go. Yes, they can win on the mesa.
But to take a why this game is important is
if you win this game, I think it's a little
bit of a reset for everyone going in the next week.
If you lose this game subconsciously, it's probably hard to
expect that you're gonna go win three Strade games when
you've just lost three trade games. So this is a

(07:00):
big game tonight just for getting Mojo back, not necessarily
for making March madness.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
So here's the scenario.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
For San Diego State to win a share of the
Mountain West regular season title, New Mexico needs to beat
Utah State.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
I believe they played tomorrow night, Is that right?

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah, tomorrow or tomorrow day at one o'clock, and then
San Diego State needs to win tonight against UNLV. That
would make everyone have a fourteen and six record through
the Mountain West regular season, which again, I don't think
anyone has ever won the Mountain West with five or
more losses, and all of a sudden, everybody who's in
the conversation it could be a three way tie with
six losses, which is just kind of crazy. But I

(07:36):
do think it means something only in this sense for
a Mountain West regular season championship. Here's where I push
back on Sammy a little bit is that the final
year in the Mountain West, and San Diego State's won
more of these than anyone, so it does feel right.
It feels like the proper ending for San Diego State
to be able to host that banner for the final
Mountain West regular season.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
But maybe I'm just a softy.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
I also agree with you that the vistation needs to
be Sweet sixteen.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I see what you're saying.

Speaker 7 (07:58):
It just feels a little bit to me, and people
are gonna push back on this like the Lakers hanging
in season banner. That to me, it's like the Lakers
aren't in the business of putting up in season tournament.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
In season Tournament's nothing, no exactly, but it's not. It's
this is a whole season of work.

Speaker 7 (08:15):
Yes, but we're not gonna sit here and give kudos
to the Aztecs for missing This is not going to
be looked back as a successful season if they miss
out on the tournament. But they get to share the
regular season Mountain West title. That that's just how I
look at it. I think it's a good thing that
the expectations are high for a school like Utah State,
for schools like New Mexico, a regular season title is

(08:35):
a big deal. The Assets have reset expectations, and that's
what you want to have. You want to be looked
at as a big time college basketball program, which they
are so personally I don't care as much about that tonight.
If they get it, that's great. All attention should be
getting right for next week.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Not for nothing, but I am kind of glad that
the Aztecs are done with the Mountain West. Actually, I'm
very glad that the Estcs are done with the Mountain West.
Do you see what they're doing to the media out
in Las Vegas for the Mountain West Tournament. No, they've
taken a way media seating where it normally is in
Las Vegas, which is like four or five rows back.
It's not like San Diego State where you're right on
the court, but they've taken away the media seating. They're
gonna sell it for like six hundred bucks a pop,

(09:10):
and they're sticking the media behind one of the baskets,
which I just think is lame as hell. Lame as hell, yeah,
especially for paying for that. Honestly, especially for the Mountain West.
When you take like outside of San Diego State, what
is the big draw like this is not, this is
not it's at UNLV. UNLV has a decent fan base,
like this is not Guke has a great fan base.

Speaker 7 (09:33):
Right, but it's not like Duke North Carolina, like where
you got just rabbit fan base is where you're selling
this thing for for crazy Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
So sam, I think we're withdrawing our names from going because.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah, all right, San Diego Sports seven sixty, let's hit
the big three here. We got DSG coming up in
about twenty minutes, so looking forward to that.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
But Sammy, go ahead, smash it.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Look is here ready to go back to the office
and knock that socks off your friends.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
I mean co workers.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Each time for the top stories of the day, three.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
No text line, I did not ride the peloton last night.
But the text line is open seven zero four seven zero.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
S They called it the tax line called it bike party.
You rode bike party.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Sorry, message with the word team YouTube is open at
San Diego Sports seven sixty.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Actually Matt from DSG is.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
Going to be joining us on YouTube, so you don't
want to check it out there, all right? Samye? Where
were going to the NFL? Per Jordan Schultz? The Raiders?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
So this is really heating up.

Speaker 7 (10:30):
There's been a lot about Max Crosby, could he get
delt over the last couple of months. Apparently they have
offers left and right for Max Crosby and are sifting
through them right now.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Even if he wasn't up for trade, they would have
offers left and right for Max Crosby.

Speaker 7 (10:43):
Yeah, but it seems like they're open to it. The
Cowboys have been linked the Ravens. The Bears are the
odds on favorite, but sounds like the Cowboys and Ravens
are making a late push. If you're Max Crosby, where
should you want to go play football?

Speaker 1 (10:57):
That's a great question?

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Now do we think Lamar Jackson tweet the boom tweet
with Denzel Washington does this have anything to do with
Max Crosby.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Well, I was gonna get to that next, but bab,
we'll not save it, save it.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
If I'm Max Crosby, I'd have a hard time saying
no to the dollars of joining the Dallas Cowboys. I'd
have a really hard time saying no to the potential
of joining the Chicago Bears. I think they are so
on the rise, up and coming. They have everything in
place right now. Like the example with the Ravens, do
we know for sure that Jesse Minter is gonna work
out as a good head coach? The example of the Cowboys,

(11:28):
Do we know for sure that Schottenheimer's gonna end up
being a good head coach?

Speaker 1 (11:31):
The answer is no.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
With Chicago, we feel pretty confident that Ben Johnson and
Caleb Williams, this pairing is probably gonna be there for
the next five or six years, and they're heading in
the right direction with huge momentum coming.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Off of last year.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
I'm looking at the Chicago Bears as a team that
could easily be a top three seed in the NFL
postseason this year in the NFC, and I think they
can make some big.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Problems The Bears would make a lot of sense.

Speaker 7 (11:55):
The Milin pushback on the Bears as this it's kind
of like Witty out with the Raiders in a weird way.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
No, the Bears defense was opportunistic last year, but I
wouldn't say it was a bad defense.

Speaker 7 (12:07):
I mean, statistically they were a bad defense and completely
benefited off turnover differentially, right, But that's you can't count
on that year to year.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
They could they could, that could drop.

Speaker 7 (12:16):
We've seen teams go from best turnover differential in the
league to worst. Now you're backed up with an excellent
quarterback and an excellent offense, which he didn't have on
the Raiders, so it is different. I'm sure Max Crossey
is gonna be stoked if he goes Chicago. I'm looking
at the Cowboys like I really look at the Cowboys
and go if they make that deal. I don't know
if the Cowboys should give the amount of picks to

(12:36):
make that deal. But you're backed up with a good offense.
People forget the defense was atrocious for the first half
of the season. Then you get Logan Wilson, you get
Quinn Williams, you get some of these guys. That defense
the second half of the season wasn't terrible, and with
the Cowboys, I do feel like there are a couple
of pieces away on defense and in a much more
manageable division. Not saying the Bears aren't gonna win the division.

(12:57):
No one has sherished Chicago Bears more than me on
the show. But it feels like the Lions are going
to be back in the picture Green Bay. I don't
know how much I believe in them, but they're still there.
The Dallas Cowboys being pairdext to Quentin Williams. I think
about Max Crosby. I just don't want to go to
the Bears giving up a bunch of assets to just
be another star pass rusher like he is on the
Raiders with no help around him. But we'll see any

(13:20):
spot Bears Ravens Cowboys is going to be an upgrade
over the Raiders. So I'm not sure he's not complaining
next all right, So, speaking of ben teeze It, Lamar
Jackson as the twenty Minutes Ago, posted a cryptic post
on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Where training day Denzel? Yeah yeah, but.

Speaker 7 (13:36):
Trained dat Anzel. He clapped his hands together. It's a
great movie and he's smiling. A lot of people are
thinking this could be in the AJ Brown news now.
The Chargers also today are linked to possibly getting AJ
Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles. If you're AJ Brown, who
should he want to go play with? Justin Herbert or
Lamar Jackson's dang Man?

Speaker 3 (13:56):
If it's me, I'm probably saying Justin Herbert, But I look,
I think Justin Herbert is the better peer passer I
think as of right now, Lamar Jackson is.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
A better quarterback.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
So you're not damaging yourself either way. Although if you're
AJ Brown, am I going AJ Brown? Think about what
we know about him? Very hymn centric right with AJ Brown.
He wants to make sure he's the guy getting nine
to ten targets a game. He wants to make sure
he's the clear cut wide receiver one on a team.
Lamar Jackson, maybe it's not his fault, Maybe it's the

(14:26):
team's fault. Hasn't had a wide receiver one like ever,
And I do think sometimes quarterbacks make the receivers just
as much as the receiver.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Makes the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
So Lamar Jackson not having a wide receiver one in
his history and not making anybody look fantastic in his
history is a problem. Justin Herbert has worked with Lad
McConkey making him look like a wide receiver. One you
give Justin Herbert AJ Brown that's special.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Man.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
If I'm AJ Brown, I would go to the Chargers.

Speaker 7 (14:55):
I agree with you, and the quarterback fit is better
with Herbert. Herbert throws the deep ball. Again, is a
lot like Jalen Hurts in more talented than Jalen Hurts
in my opinion. Now, Jalen Hurts has hardware, so you
gotta give Jalen Hurts that. But Lamar Jackson it's playing
ahead of the chains using his legs.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
He's an extremely accurate passer.

Speaker 7 (15:14):
But Lamar Jackson is not a top ten deep ball
thrower in the league.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
And that's what a J. Brown wants to do.

Speaker 7 (15:19):
A lot like Jalen Hurts, Jalen Hurts doesn't throw the
deep ball a lot, Whereas Justin Herbert he has maybe
the strongest arm in the NFL. I mean, he is
one of them. He throws that thing down the field
all the time. Be a true deep threat. Now, I
think with Mike McDaniel, this is where the Chargers have
to look at and go Who's running the show? Is
it Mike McDaniel or is it Jim Harball. Jim Harbaugh

(15:41):
is obviously the head coach, but you know, before offensive
coordinator Greg Roman, it was all about the run, and
it was all about Herbert playing ahead of the chains chains.
Herbert is also dealt with a massive injury history so
far in his career. If Harbaugh's really turned the keys
over to Mike McDaniel to have an air raid style
offense and do what he did in Miami, AJ Brown
makes more sense down there. If it's still John or

(16:03):
Jim Harbaugh is always with that run for a scheme,
I think you're gonna fall in a similar situation as
you have with what he's got in Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Let's squeeze one more quickie, all right. The Lakers lose
last night, of course, to the Denver Nuggets. My bet
hit now's your zoo. Shut up.

Speaker 7 (16:21):
They lose, They lose one, twenty one thirteen. They come out,
get down eleven to zero, fight back. I give him
some credit for fighting back in the game. Luca picks
up his fifteenth technical foul. He's won away from being
suspended for a game. Tim McMahon a past kareem.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Last night. It was a historic night. Yeah, most field
goals ever made. I get so over that every time Lebron.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Makes well, there's gonna be another one at the end
of March when he passes Robert Bears for most games played.

Speaker 7 (16:48):
Every time Lebron hits a career mile soon. And this
isn't his fault. The Lakers lose the game every time,
but he hit most points that he lost the game,
most field goals, they lost the game. Tim McMahon and
today came out, you know ESPN analysts and said Luca
needs to do less whining and more caring about winning.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Reaction to those comments.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Talking about how Luca is with the officials, Yes, okay,
I could see that Luca is not the problem. Yeah
it's Luca is not the problem with this Los Angeles
Lakers team. And I truthfully, look, I think a lot
of NBA players are a little too demonstrative with the reps.
I think it takes over games at times. I think
it's one of the most annoying things to watch. I
really do, and that goes for basketball as a whole.

(17:30):
I don't like this trend that has happened over the
last ten years where every little bump needs to be
called where every little missed call needs to be talked
about for ten minutes. I hate it about basketball and
where it's at right now. I'd rather you just play
through things. However, you got a dude putting up like
forty a night. Are we really gonna sit here and
talk about Luca looking at referees like that's the problem
with the Lakers because it's.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
Not Well, that's I agree, it's it's fair to criticize Luca.
Does him not running back on defense complaining to reps?
Is it a problem? One hundred? There's reasons why last
night the dever Nuggets going on quick ten to ozer
runs because they're getting easy transition buckets back the other way.
It's a problem, but it's hard to sit Luca Doncas

(18:11):
just got killed the last couple of weeks for the Lakers,
lack of winning against successful teams, Lucas still scoring at will,
Lucas hitting fadeaway threes out of bounds last night, bringing
the team back into the game. When Luca was successful
with Nico Harrison in the in Dallas, they had three
and D wing defenders in a massive front court.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Well, the Lakers front court is not very good because.

Speaker 7 (18:31):
DeAndre and got hurt last night, and he's just not
that great of a player, and the Lakers lack talented
three and d excellent point of attack wing defenders. This
team is not built for Luka Doncic, and unfortunately, until
the end of the year, they're going to keep losing
to elite teams because this is extremely flawed roster. A
year from now, after Polinka builds the roster, and we're
still having this conversation, then I can hear that more

(18:51):
about Luca. But until they really have a full offseason
to building around Luca, this whole Luca can't win a
championship narrative I think is wrong.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Is it kind of fair to call Luke he's got
a little Jimmer for debt to him.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Sat Jimmer was in college except yeah, except he was.
He's good. Yeah, he's good in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
But like Jimmer fordt b Y, you literally had to
throw everything out and say, all right, everyone else is
gonna play defense, Jim or go score right, he's the.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Lakers need to do a little bit of that.

Speaker 7 (19:15):
Yes, Luca is a superstar, but as a massive flaw
in his game, so you have to build around that.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
And if he gets if we did.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
See at times last year like Luca stepped up the defense.
It's not like he can't do it.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
It is an effort thing, but you do need people
around him who are defensive players. Yes, he gets blown
blown by at a clip, I think more than anyone
in the league.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
It's it's it's a problem.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Well dead, all right, Well Luca maybe get better and
stop winding so much. All r We're gonna take quick
break here. We got some excellent texts coming in. We'll
read them on the other side. Ten minutes from now,
DSG is gonna be joining the show, and we have
a four pack of tickets for you to go to
the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to see the brand
new Elephant Valley. All that coming up in San Diego
Sports seven sixty my Heart Radio. Have you seen it, Sammy,

(20:01):
I have not seen this. So this is the court.
I think it's in Arizona. I think it's an Arizona.
I think it's at Arizona State where they are. They've
basically redone the whole court to make it like an
led screen, so it's like glass almost, and players are
reporting that it's slippery. It's slick. If I'm a player,
I'm not getting on that freaking thing. I'm telling him
to change back to wood because this is ridiculous. If

(20:21):
you're a college basketball player in the Big Twelve with
the shots to go to the NBA and you somehow
rip an acl or tearing achilles because the court is slippery,
I'd be pissed.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
Well, and I mean it does look really cool though,
look at what just happened.

Speaker 7 (20:35):
I know this isn't the Big Twelve, but Caleb Wilson,
one of the biggest stars in college basketball out for
the season in North Carolina. In North Carolina obviously is
a massive brand in college basketball, massive fan base, and
he's a fun player to watch. He's gonna be a
lottery pick in the NBA draft. So yeah, if.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
There's a five percent chance this leads to more injuries,
what is a Big twelve doing? I will say it
looks bad ass. They can do a lot of different
things with it. It's kind of like, you know, the
Vegas Golden Knights sort of made it cool to do
the projector on the on the ice beforehand.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
That's not changing the ice at all.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
That's not changing the composition of what they're playing on
at any moment, but it looks awesome. So it's like
they're trying to get something similar to that, and they're
changing out the court for essentially a screen and it
just looks like such a mistake to me, and it
leaves you open to a lot of problems for Big
Twelve players.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
I hate it, I really do.

Speaker 7 (21:23):
Yeah, I mean, and when talking about the Big Twelve,
like there's some massive start, I mean, think think, think
of the amount of teams you're Houston, your Kansas, your Arizona,
I mean, Iowa State countless one.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Before March Madness. You're gonna make them play on a
piece of glass?

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, it's it's a mistake and I don't And.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
Players have come out and said, no, this court feels weird,
it feels slippery, it feels different than anything we've played
on in our lives. And so if you're the Big Twelve,
you have to be looking at this like how I'm
sure they spent a gajillion dollars on this thing. And
by the way, it's going to be used for advertising
for halftime shows.

Speaker 6 (21:59):
It is.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
It is amazing.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
Like we talked about the Aztecs so far this season
and how it's been frustrating at times because the team
has looked like at home against Utah State, that looked
like a team that we thought was gonna be the
team heading into the season. Then there's been times your
Colorado States where they've looked a little lost Grand Canyon
at home. It is cool in college basketball. You do
get the lifeline of you know, everyone gets a lifeline,

(22:21):
and it's hard. You gotta win, go three straight games
and the chances of that happening are very slight. But
it is like the conference tournament week is so fun
and kind of underrated because obviously marsh Maddis is the best,
but getting to getting if you get hot at the
right time of year, you can get in the tournament.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
All right, Elfint Valley tickets coming up in our number
two coming up next map from DSG is gonna be
joining the show. Can't wait to talk some padres padres
with them, can't wait to talk some casinos with them.
My dude's breaking padres. Yes, sure, come on, we'll get
to that. On the other side in San Diego Sports
seven to sixty, you're listening live on myheartradio app. So
with that we bring in DSG you know them by

(23:00):
Divine Sports Gospel on social media.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
This is actually my first time meeting Matt. Matt, how
the hell are you?

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Man?

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Good to finally meet you.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Likewise, fellas Ben and Sammy, thank you so much for
having me on. I'm very excited to you know, chat
some ball. I was listening to your Aztecs when I
was in here in the little you know zoom meeting
for a little bit. What a tough season for the
text man, with all the hype, I feel like I
was really expecting it to be a special year. But

(23:28):
you never know, Mountain West. You know, when a win
in Vegas and hopefully we can you know, make some
noise in make some noise in March. But tough season,
thankfully after Like like Ben, you mentioned twenty seven runs yesterday.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
That was the first time I'm like.

Speaker 6 (23:42):
All right, baseball season, So yeah, I'm excited. Man's it
should be a great it should be a great year.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Yeah, baseball's here, man, and it's fun.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
And by the way, if Astacs somehow win the Mountain
West Tournament and go to the Sweet sixteen, we all
forget about this season and what happened during the regular
season is all that's.

Speaker 4 (23:56):
All that matters.

Speaker 6 (23:57):
People forget, you know two, I think it was Padres
didn't really have that great of the year, but they
made it to the playoffs. They knocked out the Mets,
you know, they went in they beat the Dodgers. Obviously,
Like people talk about twenty twenty two like it was
just like amazing, magical season.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
I'm like, the regular season wasn't that great.

Speaker 6 (24:15):
All that matters is the postseason, right, So if the
Texan makes a noise in Vegas and make the tourney,
I'll look back very fondly of this year and I'm
hoping for it.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
So I want to get your thoughts on the ownership situation,
some of the moves that Padres have made, and everything
leading into this season. But are we fine just giving
you credit for the Griffin Canning report.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
I think you're as you were the first person.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
And were you in a casino when you when you
broke that news? I was, so.

Speaker 6 (24:40):
I actually live up in San Francisco now, so born
and raised in San Diego. I grew up in Saber Springs,
which is like right on the cusp of script franch
And yeah, so I grew up there.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
Went to Maltcomel High.

Speaker 6 (24:52):
School, went to cal Paly, got a job up in SF,
so I've been up here for a little bit.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
But I was, oh, really, baby, how old are you mad?

Speaker 6 (25:02):
Were we there at the same time I was there
twenty fourteen to twenty eighteen.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
We were there at the exact same time.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
How do you guys never cross paths though? Those were No,
I had no idea. Let's go, well we have to
talk about Well, we'll have to chat after this.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Yeah, dude, I lived on for the last three years,
so there's a chance you were at my house at
one point.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
I was going to say we've probably been in the
same building once or twice having a good time.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
But no, that's awesome. I loved to Cowbally. But what
what I was saying is I was in Lake Tahoe.

Speaker 6 (25:32):
Actually for you know, with some friends skiing up there,
and we went to a casino Friday night, and I
got a text from a really, really good source who
happened to be roommates with Griffin Canning, you know, at UCLA.
So he texted me, and I'd met Griffin before and
Griffin's a really nice guy. So he texted me, and
he was like, hey, Griff signed with the Padres.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
I went on Twitter.

Speaker 6 (25:55):
Didn't see any of the big dogs, you know, report
it yet, so I was like, hey, you know why not?

Speaker 4 (26:00):
So I posted it.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Weon't lie.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
I was a little nervous.

Speaker 6 (26:03):
I woke up in the morning and I was like, oh,
I really hope I don't have a text full of
people saying like, why are you lying about this random
picture signing with the Padres And uh no, Thankfully, thankfully
Griff was. It was legit, and I actually think he's
gonna be a great, a great arm he's coming back.
I think reports are saying end of April early May
is when he's coming back. He obviously was with the

(26:24):
Mets last year and he suffered that ACL injury.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
But I think he's gonna be great.

Speaker 6 (26:28):
I think the depth of this Padres team is probably
the deepest it's been in you know, at least in
the last six to like seven years. That being said,
you know, we really just need the big dogs to
the big dogs to come through and that and that's
what happened last year in the playoffs, right you had

(26:48):
Machado Merrill and uh I think it was Machado Xander
and Tatis went like three for twenty three.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
That can happen. That's why we lost the cups.

Speaker 7 (26:57):
Well, Matt, what do you make you talked about, you know,
Griff and Canny. What do you make of the fact
that they kind of took a bunch of shots at
the dark board, Walker, Buehler, Canning, her mom, Marquez, all
these kind of flyers. Did you like that from Preler
or were you more like, go get a Valdez. I
know Meryl Kelly turned him down, Just go get a
shurtfire starter.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
What are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 4 (27:16):
It's a great question, Sammy.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
So obviously, in an ideal world, right, I would love
it if we could just you know, be like the
team up North and just sign whoever we want and
for whatever right.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
Just like hand out paychecks.

Speaker 6 (27:26):
The reality of the situation is the team's up for
sale and we have a prime kind of exiting his
prime Manny Machado and Xanderbogart. So what you have to
do is you had to bring back King or get
a Meryl Kelly type. I'm happy we brought back King,
to be completely honest, I think familiarity with the organization.
I think Michael King at his best is much better

(27:47):
than Meryl Kelly. Meryl Kelly might have a you know,
higher floor than Michael King, to be completely honest, given injuries,
but I think at his best, I mean I was
at that game when he pitched in the n A
Wildcard Series against the Braves. Thirteen strikeouts or whatever you have,
that was an elite starting pitcher. That's the one picture
that people were saying, is going to get two hundred,
three hundred Miero. We got him back. We need a
healthy season from King. I love the idea of what

(28:10):
Preller did right with Tristan McKenzie, griff Canning, Herma Marquez,
Walker Buehler, Marco Gonzalez.

Speaker 4 (28:16):
You have these arms and.

Speaker 6 (28:17):
You kind of pray, Hey, man, if one or two
of these guys can give me fifteen to twenty starts
at a four yar, that's a win. Also, if you
guys have been paying attention obviously spring training, you do
not want to take stats to heart, right, it's spring
training for a reason. If you watched the Padres, if
you watched the Padres Great Britain game, the last inning,

(28:39):
I'm pretty sure the Padres Minor League team was playing
for Great Britain. So obviously take take all of these
stats with a grain of salt, but I do think
for pictures, you know, stuff shows right, and Randy Vasquez
is consistently hitting you know, ninety six ninety seven on
his fastball. If Randy Vasquez, I loved watching Randy pittch

(29:00):
last year. He escaped a lot of jams. I know,
the underlying metrics didn't like him. I think Randy Basquez,
if he's your number four starter and he stays healthy,
that's a great number four starter. And then all you
need is one of these Canning Buehler, her mam Marquez,
or you know, a couple of them be in that
fifth rotation spot. Not a lot of teams have five
guys that are going to pitch the entire season, right Like,

(29:22):
There's going to probably be nine to ten guys that
start at least for the San Diego Padres this year.
So hopefully one of those guys pans out. And I
think Walker Bueler is the one that I think I
would put my money on being the fifth guy to
start the start the season, and I think he has
the highest ceiling too.

Speaker 4 (29:41):
I also think her mam Marquez not pitching on.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
The moon in Colorado will probably help his stats a
little bit for sure.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Matt Divine Divine Sports Gospel, joining us here, follow him
on social at Divine Sports Gospel, putting up good stuff.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
All of a sudden, he's a newsbreaker now too.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
But Matt, as we kind of look at the future
for the Padres, there's a huge question in who's gonna
own the San Diego Padres. So not asking you to
read fortunes or anything or to sell us who is
going to be the next owner of the Padres, But
as a lifelong Padre fan like you are, what does
this mean with the kind of organization, the team in
flux and not knowing what's on the other side, do
you have a positive outlook on it or are you

(30:17):
terrified of it?

Speaker 6 (30:19):
I'm extremely positive. I think it's I think it's the
best thing that could.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Happen to the Padres right now.

Speaker 6 (30:25):
The Seidler family did amazing things. Peter Siler will always
be a San Diego legend, you know. With the Chargers leaving,
the Padres were really the big show in town and
we had an opportunity to you know, become a real team. Obviously,
signs Hosmer which Hosmer doesn't have the most love in
the in the Pods community. But the many Machado signing,

(30:46):
I was at cal Paly. I did a four plus
one fletch, so I was there for an extra little
victory lap. But I remember being in one of my
accounting classes and I got the notification that Jeff pass
and said, you know, Manny Machado's signing changed everything, right,
And that was strictly an owner saying I want to
invest in this product. Unfortunately, what happened is obviously with

(31:08):
Peter passing away rest in peace, his brother's take over
the team.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
I don't think his brothers signed up for that, to
be completely honest.

Speaker 6 (31:15):
And I don't think they financially can hang with some
of these other organizations, which is nothing against him, that's
just life.

Speaker 4 (31:21):
So either you keep the team and you know.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
Don't spend any money and we don't do anything, or
you sell the team and hopefully someone like a Dan
Freakin or a Joe Si or I heard the Viori guy.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
I'm not really sure how that's going to work out.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
But whoever buys the team wants to win, and what
a good team to buy, right, It's a you know,
biggest show in town. You if you haven't been following
the projects, I mean, if you're listening to this, you
follow the pojects most likely, but selling out every single
night you could go. I have friends that you know,
check out Peco Park and they'll text me and they're like,
this is the craziest place ever on like a Tuesday

(31:57):
night against the Pirates.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
It's such an awesome time to be a Padres fan.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
And hopefully we get a you know, owner who wants
to win and wants to you know, get in the
good graces quickly. So hey, maybe a little uh, you know,
maybe a little Ted scooball action who knows that I'm excited.

Speaker 7 (32:15):
Matt, what do you what do you make of? Because
Flush and I talked about this a lot. You have
I mean Flush kind of touched on it next season
looking at a potential lockout, I feel I feel like
a lot of MLB fans think it's a foregone conclusion
the Dodgers are three peating, And what I've kind of
said to that is all though the Dodgers should be
the favorite. You know, the Potter's obviously took him to
the brink a few years ago. Blue Jays took him
to the brink last season. Do you think there's like

(32:37):
more excitement for this year considering there might not be
baseball next year, or do you think the Dodgers spending
has kind of taken excitement back for baseball?

Speaker 6 (32:45):
No.

Speaker 4 (32:45):
I think it sucks that it's the Dodgers out of
this team.

Speaker 6 (32:48):
But I think every league who has, like you know,
David versus Goliath situation, right, like the Dodgers of the
Goliath of Major League Baseball. I think when the Patriots
were really good, you know, everybody hated the Patriots unless
you're a Patriots fan, right, and like Tom Brady, and
but that was when NFL was popping, Like that was
probably when or the Warriors and you know, the late
twenty tens. Like you need a team that everybody kind

(33:11):
of roots against that isn't a fan that aren't riding
with those teams because people want to see.

Speaker 4 (33:16):
Them go down.

Speaker 6 (33:17):
I think baseball is in probably the best spot it's
been in in my lifetime, at least conscious lifetime, right
like I was, I was born in ninety six, so
I didn't really see the peak speroid era. I kind
of got into it while it was kind of dying
down a little bit. I think baseball is in such
an amazing spot. I think the shot clock, I think
the pitch clock was super important, right, And I understand

(33:38):
the peerists and I totally understand that perspective. But watching
it on TV now is such a more enjoyable experience
than it was before. You know, a four hour game
on Sunday night baseball was pretty brutal, to be completely honest.
Now it's you know, two hours, ten minutes, and you
can kind of really like enjoy the product.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
I do think the lockout's going to happen.

Speaker 6 (33:58):
I'm praying it is in his long as people are
thinking it's gonna be. I wish I was more privy
to information. I'm just you know, I'm gonna keep a
positive outlook and hope it doesn't go too long because
for the Padres, right, it's brutal Manny Machado's thirty three
years old, Xander Brogart's thirty three years old. Hopefully we
have a great season and win the World Series, right,

(34:19):
that's the dream. I think fangrasts give us a point
six percent.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
That was kind of low.

Speaker 6 (34:24):
I'm like I was gonna I was gonna send a
couple of messages to the to the nerds over at
Fangrounds and tell them like, hey, hey, guys, come on,
I you.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
Got to give us a little bit of a little
a little bit of.

Speaker 6 (34:32):
A little bit of grace. But no, hopefully we have
a good year. But what's brutal is, yeah, there's a
good shot we miss another year of Manny and Xander
and they come back and they're thirty five years old.
It's a completely different team. So you know, I really
hope it doesn't happen. I'm very interested. I kind of
want to hear your perspectives too, like a little reverse interview.

(34:54):
What's your guys' take take on you know, if you
were owning you're gonna go and buy a three point
one bill million dollar baseball team and there's a possible
work lockout coming up, does that change your perspective on
what you're buying?

Speaker 4 (35:05):
You think that I'm kind of curious how that works, right.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
I think anybody who's into buying a professional sports team
with the lockout looming actually wants to buy a professional
sports team to go compete on the other side, because
you're not going to be making money for the first
seven eight years if everything is perfect, and if there's
a lockout, well now you have a whole year of
missed revenue. So you're not making money for what the
first ten years most likely of owning the padres so

(35:29):
buying this thing unless you intend on buying it, building
up Petco a little bit more than it already has
been in and turning around and selling it in a
few years. Whoever's buying should be ridiculously invested in making
this thing a winner. But we'll see you hire me up.
We ran out of time, but we loved having you
on PAL and want to do it some more. So
thank you for your time today. Great to get to
meet you. Everyone go follow him at Divine Sports Gospel

(35:51):
and Matt instead of going to the casino tonight. Just
listen to the next segment because Samy's going to make
us all some money with long shots, which is our
betting segment every single day. Thank you, brother, I appreciate
you both. Bango pods all right, Divine Sports Gospel. First
time having them on the show. It was a pleasure.
Can't wait to do it again with Matt in the
very near future. It's San Diego Sports seven sixty Sammy zero.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
For three last night, brutal be last night. What are
we doing today? Is this a foursome?

Speaker 4 (36:14):
Three Z?

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Where are we going? Every support will be involved, every
sport's involved.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
That's next San Diego Sports seven sixty live on Myheart
Radio app eight five eight Fletch, Have you named your
peloton yet and is it still a virgin?

Speaker 4 (36:26):
No?

Speaker 1 (36:26):
One? Yes, I guess is the answer to that. I
haven't named it and I haven't written it. Stop asking.
I'll get on it when I want to get on it.

Speaker 7 (36:33):
That's a quitter's mentality. You need to set aside some
time hop on the bike. All right, take here's the
thing today. This is just today in my life.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Ready for this? I am.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
I got to work at four thirty am. No, I
got to work at five am this morning, Little eight.
I will be done working tonight around ten o'clock. Okay,
what am I getting on that bike?

Speaker 1 (36:56):
Ten baby? At ten thirty at night? Hey, grinding thirty
at night? I will be in my.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
Backyard cracking open my first beer of the day and
then going to sleep shortly after.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
That is what will be happening at ten thirty. So
no fit boy summer for Fletchuh.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
At least not this week, and let me get through
the Mountain West Tournament. We'll see, hopefully I get through
all March madness, and then maybe after I go to
spring training, I'll come back home and I'll get on
that stupid bike that currently is a towel rack.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
Disappointing. Disappointing, all right, say let's get some long shots
to make us all some money. Are you looking for
some luck?

Speaker 4 (37:30):
I want to win, baby.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
He was so miny.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
We don't even know what time do take a shot?
Say that's me and his money with long shots. By
the way, Xanderschoffe's kind of cooking. Where's he at?

Speaker 6 (37:46):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (37:46):
He dropped down a little bit? Never mind?

Speaker 5 (37:48):
Uh he was?

Speaker 1 (37:49):
It looks like it's hard to bet.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
He was tied for six, He's now tied for eighth.
He's in a good spot. But man Daniel Berger is
just having the freaking rounds of his life. He's thirteen
underd No one else is better than Xander's a five under,
so he's doing good.

Speaker 7 (38:03):
Top ten Massive UFC fight tomorrow, Massive Okay. Charles olivera
Max Holloway to first fight. Holloway took him out a
minute and thirty nine seconds into the fight.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
I have not read up on this is this BMF Yeah,
it is BMF. I almost said F yeah, but F yes.

Speaker 7 (38:19):
Halloway's taking him out again, okay, and normally picking knockouts.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
It's a little you know.

Speaker 7 (38:24):
People betters usually want to go for the knockout. They
want to people want to see if so some casual
money comes in on KOs. But here's why he's gonna
get it again. He's getting plus one sixty five bots
to get a ko. Max Holloway is the exact kind
of fire that Charles Olivera does not want to fight.
Charles Olivera does not want to stay on his feet.
He wants to take you to the ground. He is

(38:45):
an excellent grappler, amazing wrestler, and for most fighters that's
usually too much for them to handle. We talked about
a boxing a boxer versus puncher, power versus a technician.
In the UFC, it's a grappler versus a striker. Max Holloway, though,
has been in some absolute wars and the way he
has over the years built up his jab, he has

(39:05):
an excellent reach advantage.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
He's gonna keep Olivera off him.

Speaker 7 (39:08):
Olivera is gonna have to start running into some shots
in the second and third round in this one because
he has to get him to the ground to try
to get a submission that plays right into Max Holloway's hands.
Give me Max Holloway KO or t KO plus one
sixty five on the on the marker.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
Didn't Max talk about it.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
He said, if it gets into the final round and
there's ten seconds left, he's gonna do the point again,
even if he's winning the fight.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Oh, I'm sure he will. I'm sure he will. That
was one of the biggest moments in sports. Yeah, that
was that was it?

Speaker 7 (39:36):
Geechee that with Gaigshee and then he not Gechie out
cold with one second so badass. So I think I
think he's getting the KO plus one sixty five gets
you some value on that because he is the favorite
of minus two twenty. All right, Nick, Nuggets tonight give
me New York on the road against Denver minus one
and a half. The Lakers don't have what the Knicks
have to expose the Nuggets weaknesses. The Lakers don't play

(39:59):
man on man defense. But we did see the Lakers
when they came back in the second half because there
was a dreadful start to the.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
Game last night.

Speaker 7 (40:07):
The Nuggets get up eleven to nothing almost immediately a
couple of minutes in when they went with the small
ball with JJ Reddick. It actually gave the Nuggets problems
and they double team Jokics farther out. Except the Knicks
have better defenders than the Lakers, so there's a reason
why the Knicks are one and a half point favorites
on the road. They have the rest advantage and Michale
Bridges Jalen Brunton, even though he's not a great defender,

(40:29):
Karl Anthony Towns, I mean og and Nanobi. They have
the length on the perimeter to get after Jamal Murray
and not let him run off those screens which the
Lakers were just absolutely decimated by. I liked the Knicks
on the road tonight. After an emotional win for the
Nuggets last night. Give me the Knicks minus one and
a half.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
We going tennis. I did not have tennis, big.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Agias dam isn't Indian Wells's happening right now.

Speaker 7 (40:53):
Perry Boss. We gotta get to the big matches here
in a week or two. Trust me, there will be
Perry Boss. By the way, why don't we have paarab
take us to give out and John does and we're
the only showing the city that talks tennis.

Speaker 1 (41:03):
I mean, it's the station thing. It's all good.

Speaker 7 (41:06):
I'm just asking, I'm just asking. All right, we got
college basketball pick tomorrow. Arizona State, Iowa State. Now, Iowa
State has burned us before, but we're going back to
the well because we're not quitters. Minus fourteen and a half.
Give me Iowa State at home. Arizona State beats Kansas
earlier this week, gets a huge first half lead, odd

(41:28):
odd game for the Jayhawks. Bill self gets ejected Darren Peterson,
they call tech on him, Elmarco Jackson. Arizona State tried
to give that game up at the end, except Kansas
just kind of kept shooting themselves in the foot. Iowa
State's brand of defense is going to get after Arizona
State again. Emotional win for them. I know they're on
the cut line. They're only sixteen to four on the season.

(41:50):
Diop is excellent for Arizona State, averaging about six rebounds
a game in OTAM. That's the entire offense. If OTAM
has a big game, he averages seventeen points per game.
If he doesn't, this is the way it goes. Iowa
State has the one of the best defense in the
Big twelve. They're gonna make it hard. They're not gonna
let Odin beat them. Give me the Cyclones minus fourteen
and a half. I know it's a big number, but

(42:11):
they're gonna cover it tonight. So Iowa State minus fourteen
and a half tomorrow, excuse me against Arizona State. Give
me the Knicks minus one and a half on the
road taking on Denver, and I like Max Holloway to
repeat in the second fight. Get a ko at plus
one sixty five tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
I like it our number two plus. Those San Diego
Zoos and Fari tickets are coming up next.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
