No text len I have not named the peloton eight
five eight says Fletcher's dad probably used to ride his
twenty dollars swind bike nineteen miles uphill in the snow,
(01:44):
and his son can't even get on his stationary What
a shame my dad. Actually he does the stationary bike.
Shout out to Papa flesh seat. Papa Fletch is caring
about his health on the bike, taking care of himself. Fine,
I'll get on the stupid bike. Not today, maybe not
tomorrow either, May Sunday. Why not tomorrow because tomorrow I'm
driving up to Fresno I believe to go surprise my brother.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Hopefully he's not listening right now.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
What hey, big bro, I'm gonna surprise you tomorrow. Hopefully
he's not hearing.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
His team's in the playoffs and this is like it's
a big deal for him and me and a bunch
of our friends from Brucett are gonna go surprise him
at his game and hopefully.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
He's Now that's a Friday show. Okay.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I don't even know what's going on anymore.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
I had talked to Dolph Lungern this morning, the fucking
bad guy from Rockets They Go.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
It was great. It was great, although he was.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Supposed to be in studio and then he ended up
just calling us, which kind of sucked. But still we
were gonna try to get him to punch Travis in
the face, and Travis was actually on board for it.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Could you imagine taking a punch from Ivan.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Is not physically fit enough to be taking punches from
Dolph Lunger.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Right, But when else in your life are you're gonna
get that opportunity?
Speaker 3 (02:49):
I know, but.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Like someone who's young and healthy would still do facial reconstruction.
Dravis Dale was on board. He was there I believe
that part. I believe he was on board. I'm saying
because his poor wife.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Is jackass with butterbeing knocked out. Johnny Knoxville like this
is bad. Idea, Like this is not good.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
It's like for people to like Travis's wife is like
so sweet, his kids are so nice, and then Travis
is trying to get punched in the face by Dolph
Lunger and like there's there's just a you know, a
misconception here.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, so Friday's been weird so far, is what I'm saying.
Pray to God my brother's not listening, because that would
ruin like a week's worth of work. It is San
Diego Sports seven sixty. We do have the Aztecs later
on tonight. Samy and I are going to be doing
pre games starting at six o'clock tonight from outside via
haas Alrina, John Shaffer Wile to tip off coming up
at seven o'clock. Big one for San Diego Stitatey is
they look to catch back some momentum heading into the
(03:42):
Mountain West tournament. Also, SDFC Tomorra on the road, they
got sporting Kansas City. Is that what it's called yep?
On the Road Big one, Sammy, what were the odds
on that one?
Speaker 3 (03:51):
San Diego FC.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Face fifteen minus one thirty to start three and h.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
On the road?
Speaker 2 (03:55):
You like to see that staying on top of the
Western Conference as the season gets going.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
All right, I do have some bad news for everybody.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
What now?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
This is actually like very very sad bad news.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Okay, the way you flip from spoiling your brother's trip
to now, guys, we got bad news. This is You're
gonna be depressed.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
I think so. I think so, Sammy.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I don't know you're where you're going with this. So
what's what's gonna make us sad?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Every Friday since the start of this show of me
and Sammy being on air together, every single Friday that
we've been on the air, we've had.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Steve Hartman on the show.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Oh it's very sad.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Where is Steve?
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Steve texting me on the way to work. I see
a texting Steve Hartman. I go, I'm usually don't want
texting Steve. It's Sammy. Let me read the text straight verbatim, Sammy.
I will not be able to make it today, no explanation,
no nothing. I was wondering, Sammy. Sorry, can't do the
show today. Is he cheating on us?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Is he going to another radio Steve Hartman on?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
And what's the radio station up in La.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
AM five seventy?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
If I hear Steve Hartman on AM five seven, you
would definitely bail on us for AM five to seventy.
If I hear him on Petro some Money today instead
of on this show.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Petro sent money, I'm fine with if I hear him
on not on Indiana Radio. Here's the thing, because he
has a Heisman vote.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Steve Hartman has had this forty plus year career in radio,
right he is literally one of the legends. Do you
know who Steve Hartman has spent more time on the
radio with than anybody in the history.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Who you're schorn Berger? Rich Berger?
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Do you know who he spent the second most time
with in anybody in his career history?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Costa?
Speaker 3 (05:37):
That is correct, Ben Fletcher.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Me, if Steve doesn't jump on this freaking show today,
I there's a problem.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
So we were talking about Hartman last week, and because
we he was on twice when you were out sick,
I had him on and then he had for his
normal Friday appointment at one thirty and then I happen
to listen to Petro some money because I like to
tune in later on because I love that show. And
they're talking about Steve Hartman. Everyone. Steve Hartman might be
the most famous man in southern California.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I think he's in terms of local sports talk radio.
There's never been a single human being more famous than
Steve Hartman. I bet you that's true. The media is
La days and his San Diego days. Maybe there's anyone
more famous than Steve Hartman.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Oh my god, I know where he's at. The Atlanta
Hawks had the Magic City Night that the other night.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
I think he's in Atlanta right now.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
That's an excused absence out of boy, Steve. Go get
those wings. Go get those wings. I want lots of
sauce on them, Steve.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
All right, let's get to the big three here of
our number two, where Sammy rips to the top stories
in the world of sports, we might be able to
squeeze like one and a half in.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Go ahead, Sammy Smasher.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
He looked, Frank is here ready to go back to
the office and knock the socks off your friends, I
mean co workers.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
It's time for the.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Top stories of the day, Big three.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Eight five eight.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
No one was going to do that, says flet should
cancel the live stream of his peloton workout.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
No one wants to see that.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
There was never gonna be a live stream of my
you know, the ratings we would get.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
I don't even know if we're going to work out
on this stupid bike.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
First off, Kat Fisher actually teaches a real like a
real cycling class.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
I think it's called soul Cycle.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Or some cycle.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
What if we went, No, I'll go with a lawn chair,
sit in the back of beer.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
You have to go front and center, tidy whities and.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
What in tidy whities? Full spans the front time, Sammy long. Okay, guys,
that would be in decent exposure. One o'clock has gotten
off to a start. Get this for the NFL. The
most expensive wide receiver rooms in twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Six is updated after the Buffalo Bills acquired DJ Moore,
took on about fifteen point five million dollars in salary.
I'm curious Fletch today. I guess yes, name that name
the top three.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Are we considering aj Brown still a member of the Eagles. Yes,
the Eagles are one of them. Nope, what the hell? Nope,
most expensive. I'll give you a hint. Same division, Cowboys, Yep,
they're three.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Let's go. Number one is easy, is it? Okay?
Speaker 1 (08:13):
They have no defense year after year. Angles okay? And
number two the lion's up there. Number two is the
Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Interesting just with one edition.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
With one edition, this is how much money they're allocated to.
Khalil Shakir h Dalton kids. Obviously it's tight end Keonkorn.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
The Eagles have to be four, Tampa.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Bay's four, of Minnesota's five, Detroit six, Houston seven.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
The Eagles are twelve, don't Davonte Smith and aj Brown
both have contracts.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Where is DeVante Smith still on?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Yeah, DeVonta Smith is still anyway? This is Warren Sharp.
It's legit. You know who's dead last? Can't see Chiefs
dead last.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Davonte Smith is on a three year, seventy.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Five million dollar deal.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
It's cap hit.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I don't know man anyway. Buffalo Bill list is bunk,
It's not. It's legit.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
The Buffalo Bills have the second highest cap hit in
the NFL at the receiver spot, behind the Sincati Bengals.
But do we feel like DJ Moore is enough to
get the Bills over the hump?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Okay, I think DJ Moore is a great acquisition for
the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I don't think they're done adding to the wide receiver room.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
I do think they need to bring someone else in,
and maybe that is auditioned by subtraction, Like you kick
a key on Coleman out and you bring somebody in.
He has some trade value on him. He's a young
wide receiver. But the Bills do need to add someone
other than DJ Moore.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
That's what like I the Bills. DJ Moore improves the Bills.
They need a deep threat offensive weapon. DJ Moore is
a legit star. He just kind of fell out a
favor in Chicago because Raal Madonde was so good. Luther
Burden was fantastic, But I mean DJ Moore it feels
like a little bit of an overpay. Not in the
(09:50):
sense of that it's a second round pick, they got
back a fifth whatever. It's three rounds of trade differential.
But the Bills are already kind of stricken in terms
of picks. They don't have a lot. I believe they
only have one first round pick. And one third round pick.
And this defense doesn't have a pro bowler on it.
So Matt Malonald's getting up there in age at Oliver
feels like he can never stay healthy. Is like this,
(10:12):
Dj Moore, would they have been better off even though
I wouldn't have given up a first in a couple
seconds for AJ Brown to go get a bona fide
superstar wide receiver to AJ Brown that would have had
a career year with Josh Allen for DJ Moore, who
upgrades the receiver room. But we're looking at cap space
in I mean, the Cowboys receiving course way better than them,
(10:34):
the Eagles, the Bengals. I can name about ten teams
with receiving corps better than the Buffalo Bills. It feels
like a desperation move because of all the criticism of
them not getting Jayleen Waddell at the deadline. All right,
Story number two, This one surprised me so per reports
the Raiders are looking to bring in a veteran quarterback,
(10:55):
assuming they're gonna take my nose on one. That's the
worst kept secret in the league. But their considering sitting
Mendoza for the first part of the season in letting
the veteran quarterback play over than everyone overall? Pick would
you like this mindset from the Raiders?
Speaker 2 (11:08):
So Samy and I view this very very differently. Sammy's
all about get him in, let him start playing immediately.
I'm okay with patients with rookie quarterbacks. I think you like.
The jump from high school to college is a massive
jump in the amount of skill and the amount of
knowledge that you have to gain over the course of
six months. Is insane to ask someone so young to do.
And then there's the jump from college to the NFL,
(11:30):
which is probably quadruple that.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
So I'm more than okay.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
If the Raiders want to bring in, name them Aaron
Rodgers to come in, Probably not.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
A great They cut Gino Smith.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Right, they cut Gino Smith. But if you bring in
a VT who's out there, and you let him start
for the first five or six games, maybe it's Joe Flacco,
and you let him start for a little bit while
Fernando Mendoza gets his seed wet. I think that's smart.
You're playing a ten year game with Mendoza. You're not
playing a one year game with Mendoza. It doesn't matter
how the Raiders do this, year. This is about how
Fernando Mendoza looks in your two, three, four, five, six,
and so on and so forth. I would be more
(12:03):
than happy to see the Raiders do that. Sammy hates it.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
I don't get it. I don't get this at all.
Frenanda Mendoza is your franchise. I understand what you're saying
and that you're protecting him a little bit. But it's
different with Mendoza because this is if this is Tys
Simpson and you have the Ram Let's just for sake
of argument, the Rams draft ty Simpson out of Alabama
late in the high in the second round, trade back
up in the first round to get him. He's not
(12:30):
starting right away. Let's just say they didn't have Matthew Stafford.
Ty Simpson is a developmental quarterback. He is not ready
to play. Maybe a year or two from now he
could be something. He doesn't have a lot of tools.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Let me think about Sam Darnold coming out.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
To the NFL. Boy him not playing well with.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
The Jets when he first got into the league with
the Jets. I mean I wanted him to play, But
if that's the Jets probably could have used another year. Okay,
but that's the New York Jets. This is Clint Kubiak.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Clint Kubiak just won the Super Bowl as the offensive
coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks. Put faith in fan Ana Mendoza.
He's going to be the guy for the next at
least four or five years. He's the number one overall pick.
Why not start his ascension immediately? Why sit him where
he only gets to learn for half a season because
Joe Flacco's playing, and then all of a sudden he's
(13:17):
still on that kind of rookie growth in year two.
Start the process. Now throw him into the fire. I
don't get where this codling came.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
From, because there's guys, well it started. The newer trend
is starting guys right away. That's the newer trend that's
only taking place over the last ten years or so.
It used to always be you wait on a guy,
and look at what happened with Baker Mayfield, Sam Donald.
Who else is getting the Daniel Jones the reclamation projects
that we're talking about so positively in the league right now?
What happened If all of them would have waited a
(13:46):
year before they actually started, maybe we wouldn't have.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
To call them.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
But do you think Sam Darnald would have had success
with the Jets if he waited a year.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I probably more. He wouldn't have had the seeing ghost quote.
I don't think.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
I mean, but again, you're just when you're winning in
the NFL, you're winning on a rookie quarterback contract.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
By the way, the Chiefs benefited this from this more
than anyone, right, But Malmes waiting a year was the reason.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
He was as good as he is.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Mahomes took the league by storm and was immediately the
best quarterback outside of Brady in the league. And he
was a unicorn in that reguard after waiting a year,
right after waiting a year. But look at everyone around him,
every other quarterback. Take Mahomes out of it, because he
special and he's an all time great. Justin Herbert played immediately,
Lamar Jackson, Justin hiber Taylor for one game, and then
(14:30):
the second game against the Chiefs. They punctured as long
and he got in. He probably promised you he played
in week two of the regular season.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Lamar Jackson waited a year. No, he got in the
postseason the first year, but that was it. Down the stretch.
Remember he Flacko got hurt and Lamar Jackson was playing.
He played the last month of the season, last too
much of the season. Lamar Jackson developed into a great
passer after getting reps in his first year. I don't
understand this waiting a five eight texting and saying Brady Mahomes, Rogers,
Rivers all set their first year.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Right okay, and this is the old NFL again, Like.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Just because the new NFL says you should start guys
right away.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Same one
that it's worked out greatful.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
So you set Mendoza for a year, okay, you're picking
at the top of the draft next year, then you're
still he's just back in the pool rookie quarterbacks. If
you don't believe in Mendoza now, then why not just
trade the pick and wait for a quarterback next.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Year because it might be better for Mendoza down the line.
It's not saying you don't believe in him now. It's
that you're saying that, yeah, he's gonna be great for us,
but not this year.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
But then let's say he sits this year, then he
has a nice rookie season next year. Guess what by
the time he's even in the second year quarterback mode
where he's ready to win, he's in the third season
of his deal, so.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
He seems look at money more than they look at
what's better for the quarterback. But what's better for the
quarterback historically has been to sit your rookie season and.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
To get great teachers great at times. Brady Mahomes, Justin Rivers.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Justin Herbert started immediately, Caleb out of necessity.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
The Chargers didn't want to start him immediate. Jaden Tyrod
Taylor got his lung puncture.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Jade, and it worked out well for him. Beau Tyrod
Taylor hasn't worked out that well. How's Justin Herbert looked
at the postseason? Justin Herbert's been fantastic as a quarterback.
Their postseason record is a completely different thing because of
the quarterbacks. Jaydon Daniels took his team to the NFC
Championship in his first year.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
That is a unicorn.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Caleb Williams in his second year exploded. Bo Nicks in
his second year, exploded. Drake Man his second year.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
In final Sammy giving credit to Bo Nicks things that guy.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Yeah, I mean, like if Bonnicks braided.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
We gotta take a break in San Diego Sports seven
to sixty. You're listening live on iHeartRadio app. On the
other side, we're giving away that four pack of ticket,
so stay tuned. We'll continue this conversation next.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
A five eight.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Jackson Dart did it last year and sat behind Russ
for a couple of weeks. Would you say that worked?
I thought Jackson Dart looked good when he was playing,
but he was a little too uncautious with his head
running into people.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Problem my thing with I mean, I would say Jackson
Dart worked out, not in terms of a record, but
this is why people are high on the Giants heading
this year, because he got that experience of kind of
slumming it when no offensive line, noble league neighbors Camps
Scatabuo going out, so you feel like he's ready to
go for next year after having learned his rookie year.
(17:05):
My thing, and we're talking about Mendoza. There was a
report that the Raiders might have might sit for Nando
Mendoza by signing a veteran quarterback for at least part
of the season or the full season. Why I'm against
that is, if you're the Raiders, and you have a
reason for excitement. Ask genty rookie contract, brock Powers. I
believe a stall as rookie deal about to get paid.
(17:27):
Mendoza gonna be on a rookie contract. Not that the
Raiders are winning this year in that division, but I
mean sitting Mendoza for a year. Now, gent's going into
year three before Mendoza's even taking a snap and Bowers
is getting paid. The whole kind of youth movement in
Vegas goes away because you'll be allocating so much money
to the offensive stars.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
And I think financially is the biggest reason for Sammy's
argument to work out for the side of Hey, you
get a rookie quarterback, you got to see what you
got just in case you need to move off of
them and make other decisions in the draft. But I
do think the investment in the person long term, it
is better off if they're able to sit and learn
how the NFL works.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
This is drinking from a fire hose time.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
I mean from the time Fernando Mendoza's name gets called
till the first snap of game number one.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
For the Las Vegas Raiders this year, it's.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Gonna be the most overwhelming three four months of his life.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
More than that five months, await.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Your opinion change. If he's going to a team with
a good offensive mind and head coach.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
I would always prefer for my quarterback to sit a
full year that I'm drafting in the draft, and that's
pretty much across the board, no matter if it is
the best prospect of all time, that Andrew Lux of
the world, or if it's a guy like Baker Mayfield,
who it was a bit of a flyer pick for
the Cleveland Browns when they picked him. I would always
be on the side of sit for a year, or
an Aaron Rodgers case, sit for how many three years
did he sit behind Brett Farvar? Yeah, Jordan lovesaft for
(18:48):
three years behind Brett Farv. I think the hit rate
historically has been so much higher when guys sit and
learn before they get into a single NFL game than
it is when you force people out there. In fact,
the bust rate would you just put people out there
right away, is ridiculously high.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
I when Trevor.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Lawrence we'd started taking seriously as a quarterback this year,
but because he had those failed experiences first year and
a lot of it was pat piled against him. The
urban Meyer situation was I urban Meyer, Is that what
I'm thinking of?
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Yeah, urban Meyer coach to Peter Peters.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Doug Peterson. I I think it's a little too much blame.
But it was also a disaster for Trevor Lawrence. But
you do look at the history of the NFL. The
guys who have had the most success in this league
have said at least one year behind a starter who
was gonna get replaced eventually, and sometimes it works out great.
Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes. Alex Smith was the perfect leader
for Patrick Mahomes to sit behind for a.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Yeah, and it definitely helped Mahomes out. I'm not saying
I don't see the argument for sitting behind him. Obviously
it's gonna help. An investment is what it is in
the world we live in. Because Mahomes you gotta take out,
because even the first time we saw him, he lit
it up. But he did sit behind. Alex Smith played
on in one game his first year against the Broncos
(19:58):
the last week of the season. But because Herbert played
every game outside of Week one his first year, Lamar
played his first year and then we saw Josh Rosden
play his first year and then they move off him
for Kyler Murray. It's kind of a what have you
done for me lately? Business, and it's just not how
it used to be, where you would take a quarterback
years ahead of needing one sit them, because we've seen
(20:18):
teams have success when they're dealing with quarterbacks on a
rookie deal. Donald was on a rookie deal, but the
Seahawks won the Super Bowl because Donald was not taking
up all the money. The big question now is when
Donald gets a reward contract and he's making towards the
top of the marketing quarterback value, will they be winning
Super Bowls? TBD. I believe Tan Donald's a great quarterback,
but I think just the effect of not having to
(20:41):
pay guys in a salary cap league, it's so important
for your quarterback to get experienced early and often.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Team USA versus Brazil tonight five o'clock. Who's gonna be watching,
We're gonna be watching, so stay tuned. We'll talk about
that on the other side. But right now it's time
to give away a four pack of sickets for the
new Elephant Valley at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
It's open now.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
You can get up close and roam alongside the world's
largest land animals all week long. We got chances for
you to win a family four pack of tickets to
see the brand new Elephant Valley.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
It is pretty awesome, man.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
I've seen a ton of pictures, got a bunch of
first hand accounts from people who have been there.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Supposed to be incredible.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Call right now eight seven seven seven six seven four
seven sixty to win yourself a four packet tickets.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Samuel, call it number.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
It's calling number fourteen, calling number four se if they
were honoring Magic City, I thought.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
They were doing it. I thought it was Atlanta. They
were doing it the night they were playing the Orlando Magic.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
What's the whole?
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Maybe wrong?
Speaker 3 (21:31):
I think you're wrong.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
When is Magic City night?
Speaker 3 (21:35):
I thought it was when they were playing against the
Orlando Magic.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Think this will get flagged on iHeart Wi FI. We're
all good.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Oh March sixteenth, Oh, we got time to go at
least on ten days. There's no way Steve is in
Atlanta right now, so he has no excuse for not
being here.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
We'll see he's there early, getting scoping out the environment.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Doing the scouting report, making sure he's report stat database
on every single one of the performers at San Diego
Sports seven sixty all the Wings, of course, don't forget
about the wings of the Saucy Saucy Wings. The WBC
gets going here in earnest today. There were some games
earlier this morning, shoe Heo Tani in a second at
bat of the WBC smashed Slam Monster Grand Slam. I'll
(22:14):
tell you it does stink that he plays for the Dodgers,
because he is one of the most exciting players I've
ever seen. When he connects on a pitch, I really
I said this this morning on KGB. Do you remember,
like growing up watching Barry Bonds when he would hit
a baseball, it would sound different than when anybody else
hits a baseball, Right, That's how I feel about Shoe
Hayo TONI now like watching him square up a pitch
(22:37):
and this I don't even know if he scared this
one up. He was kind of reaching for it a
little bit. But the way that the ball flies off
his bat is just different. And that's very, very cool
for the Dodgers in Team Japan, who won thirteen to
nothing in the wee hours of the morning today Chinese Taipei.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
It's like an absolute beating.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Absolute beat down. But US plays Brazil tonight at five.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Dominican Republic plays against Nicaragua today at four, and both
those games are in the US, so they're on decent
time for US. But I'm getting more excited for this
as it gets closer. I do think it took seeing
some highlights from the Team Japan win for me to
kind of get back into the mindset of, oh, this
is happening here. But tonight with Team USA taking on Brazil,
a game that Team USA should win, I think Logan Webb,
(23:18):
the ace for the Giants, is starting for Team USA.
This should be fun, man, and I'm looking forward to
this Team USA. As Aaron Judge, I got a bunch
of the young guys. Pete Crow Armstrong better not choke
or else we're all gonna make fun of him relentlessly.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
But this is gonna be fun.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
I was like watching some highlights this morning, so how
the show a highlight and just looking little preview for
the game tonight. I do think what's fun is as
you know, all of us listening and people watching the Potterys,
whatever team you're a fan of massive baseball fans and
what baseball lacks, and we love it, and I love
the fact that it's one hundred and sixty two games.
(23:54):
And you feel like during the summer months, especially when
you're in between you know, the NBA and the the NFL,
and there's there's like kind of that lull and there's
something every Now.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
You about to say the word that Manny Machado hates
more than any other word on the planet, what urgency.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Urgency. Oh yeah, man child is not like when you
question his urgency.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
But that is a lack of urgency. During the middle
league baseball.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
There's a lack of urgency. It's hard for the This
is why the NFL. People go, why is it so
much popular? More popular than anything else, because a team
can go from a span of being four and oh
two a couple of weeks later on the outside looking in,
because every game means that much to the to the league.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
It is kind of grossed.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
In baseball, you have a four game series somewhere, you say, oh,
I'm happy if we just come home winning two of them.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Right in I mean, you have divisions where you could
lose eight straight games. You're like, ah, still got it
still about seven game lead, You're fine. I mean, that's
that's where the lack of urgency comes in. But with
watching the WBC so far a little bit today, it's
fun seeing competitive it's like a playoff field baseball. Not
always with some of the some of the pool play
games that that you know countries are heavily favored in,
(24:59):
But it is fun seeing competitive baseball by off the jump.
Sometimes when you see competitive baseball by off the jump
and then you see it on opening day in the
first week because everyone's juiced up, and then you kind
of get into the role of the season, you forget
why playoff baseball is so good because it is just
ratcheted up about ten notches.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Yeah, they say at least like the math would point
out that a standard like one win for an average
NFL team equates to like five wins for an average
Major League baseball team, Like that's what it ends up
being on your schedule.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Five. I feel like that'd be more like fifteen.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Sometimes just wins. So what a win would mean to
you at the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
So if you take twenty five wins, picture, that's a
five wins season in the NFL, which obviously would be
terrible either side, But as we get closer to it,
baseball is cool. If you take baseball in chunks and
watching it on a night in, night out basis, baseball
feels very much like the nostalgia based green grass fun sounds,
(25:56):
big moments. Hopefully the Padres superstars do with the superstars
need to do for the Padres to go on a
little bit of a run here. But I am looking
forward tonight. I'm looking forward to seeing what Team USA does.
I'm looking forward to see what Team Dominican Republics does.
I did hear Schaeffer on that Padres Collective podcast he
does with's Kevin Ac and our buddy Matt from DSG
talk about what you've been bringing up, Sammy. The fact
(26:17):
that if Fernando Tazis Junior goes out there, it hits
five home runs for Dominican Republic and then starts off
the season with the Padres it hits like two home
runs in the first twenty games.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
It puts more pressure on all the guys because I
don't think I don't think some people go, oh, maybe
they get more leeway because they had to ramp up early.
I think it's the exact opposite, especially as a hitter.
A picture I could see listen, you had to ramp up,
any kind of ramp back down, then you're back into
into the season. I could see a little bit more
leeway with that, But I mean, there's really no excuse
(26:50):
for a hitter to not just keep kind of that
momentum from the WBC heading into the season. And I
am I mean, Xander kind of gets the brunt of
it because he's obviously strolled so much in a pottery uniform,
But the same applies to Machada, and the same applies
to Tatis if they you know, rake during this thing.
And then we're coming on here a month from now.
Whent's opening day less than three weeks away, you know,
(27:11):
a month and a half from now, and we're talking
about a swamp start the season. It's definitely gonna be
a storyline in San Diego.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Sammy text line is pissed you didn't pick them for
the San Diego Zuosafari party.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Text line. I can't just select who I want calling number?
Speaker 3 (27:23):
What was it today? Fourteen fourteen calling Humber fourteen is
calling Humber fourteen.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Joe Anne was calling number fourteen? Who was it.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Joe Anne, Joe Anne, congratulations to you. But John Shaffer
will have another four pack to give away, so don't
go anywhere. That's coming up during his show.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
I'm not just picking and choosing who I want to
get to know.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
In fact, it is very funny how Samy goes called
number one, try again tomorrow, calling number two, Try again tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Sammy Tomorrow Saturday, Wait.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
I said, Mondays, I said Monday. This time I caught myself.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
It is San Diego Sports seven six. We'll take a
quick break, wrap this thing up. Apologize there was no
Steve Hartman today. I feel weird being at the one
thirty segment and not having Steve because we're actually breaking
on time with Steve. It goes to like one and
then we have a thirty second final segment. He doesn't
stop talking.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Real final segment coming up next.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
I got a question to ask everybody Excited for the
coming months, you'll find out what they are on the
other side of San Diego Sports seven sixty live on
my Heart Radio app. Within the year twenty twenty six,
we got three major pieces of media that are gonna
be hitting our feeds. The Boys comes out early April
April eight. I believe the final season of the Boys
is Billy Butcher turning evil.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Like there are lots of questions need to be answered.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
They released a like a promo little vignette of Homelanders
sitting in the President's chair in the Oval Office.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Lots of things Billy's turning. He might be turning evil.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
I promise you that's not having.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
What if Billy Butcher kills all his friends because they're
all soups?
Speaker 5 (28:46):
Now?
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Yeah, but I mean he's going to get a Homelander.
I think Billy Butcher might be turning evil this season.
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Uh. Jason Eckles, the guy from Supernatural, is back this
season as Soldier Boy.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
I'm excited for the Boys.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
The Boys is gonna be unreal.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
It is.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
I'm hoping if they don't screw this up, it.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Has potential to be one of the best seasons of
television ever. Also, if you haven't seen it, do not
watch it in front of any other human being.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
I thought you should watch it with your family. It's
a great family feature film.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
You know, if you got ten year old kids, watch
it with them.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
So I've been on hanging out with Shaeffer after the
show because help him out because he's doing four hours
by himself. And someone was texting in that Sammy Samy
in the Deep and that's an old show reference from
a year ago, and Shaeffer had no idea what it meant.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
And I was the best friends, aren't you?
Speaker 1 (29:36):
I was joining enjoying watching John Shaeffer try to figure
out what the Deep is on The Boys.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
That is the number one thing fans are looking forward
to with this new season of The Boys is to
see how the Deep dies or if they have the
stones to actually kill the Deep, because he deserves it,
all right. So that's the first thing. That's April, and
then we have to wait a little bit. But also
in the year twenty twenty six done three Avengers, Doomsday,
all coming out, all in the same year, three major
p This is the stuff going on here.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
What are you most excited about?
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Oh? Probably the Okay, probably the Boys. I feel like
the Avengers it reached its peak. It's like I said
this to you at the break. It's like MTV. It's
like a killed hair metal. It's like it got so
overexposed that then it went to the grunge. It's like
the moments not that grunge is bad, but it.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Just haves Kelsey and Jason Kelsey stopped being cool because
they were just every.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Complete They're always cool, they but I mean, in your
eyes the Avengers. The Avengers was such a cool event,
like when we saw Avengers Endgame. I remember where I
was being around the block in a movie theater. But
it feels like they just keep kind of cycling this
and a bunch of new characters, and it's it doesn't
feel the same as it used to with the characters
(30:47):
that everyone grew up on.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
I'm still pretty excited for the movie. And Robert Dannon
Junior is back now he's Doctor Doom.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Also, I'll see it. I mean, yeah, I'm.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Gonna go to the theaters to see That'll also be
an event Dune three. I'm also wildly excited for it.
I know some people call those boring. I love those
movies are good. I think they're awesome. And if you
see him in theaters, the spectacle that they are I
think is a really freaking cool thing too. But I
think I am team Sammy on this one. The Boys,
if you haven't watched it is special. It's also the
only one of those three things that has carries an
(31:16):
R rating and it should be further than are with
some of the stuff that they do on that show.
But the Boys' final season coming out, I mean, you're
expecting the freaking World day and in that show, I'm
I think it's the least popular of the three by far.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Well, yeah, the event the Marvel Brain carries weight in
and of itself. Dune's exciting, even though it's a rip
off Star Wars and before everyone goes oh, Dune came
out before Star Wars. Let's stop.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Dune did come out before Star Wars.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
But it's not as good. But it is a good movie.
But but I'm excited for it.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
And if anything Star Wars ripped off Dune, please please.
It's a very similar storyline and one was written like
twenty years before the other one.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Star Wars its own category, don't need to compare it
to anything. I'm going to see the Peaky Biders movie tonight.
Oh I didn't even know there was a Peaky blind
Oh you didn't know it's coming out tonight.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Maybe my biggest blind spot in shows, pop culture or anything.
I've never seen Peky Blinders, and I know I would
love it, and everyone tells me I would love it?
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Would you would? You would actually? Like I know everyone
says that you would genuinely love that.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Here's a problem, like Killy and Murphy one of my
favorite actors ever, Tom Hardy might be my favorite actor ever,
and I haven't watched it.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Tommy Shelby, dude, once you once, you when of the
great characters of all time.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
I know once I get into it, I won't be
able to stop, which is why I think I haven't started.
Like I'd rather just watch Entourage again because Entourage makes
me happy inside.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Is always a solid goes and I don't really.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Need to pay attention when I'm watching Entourage because I
haven't basically memorized at this point, like Entsarage in the Office.
It can just kind of be on and I'm watching
it without even watching it, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Yeah, yeah, but you know where it's gonna go.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
If I were to sit down, I'm gonna have to
dedicate hours of every single day until I finished Peaky Blinders.
I don't think I could do that right now, which
is a soft excuse. I should probably start because I just.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Like it's just like for the Peloton, It's like get
up on the bike and ride it.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
See how am I gonna watch Peaky Blinders? If I
have to? Ryan exercise bike?
Speaker 1 (33:07):
The peloton's got a screen on a work put up
the tv.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
This was a good week. Everybody, Thank you for being here.
We appreciate the hell out of you. If you're just
trying us out for the first time, thank you today.
It was a fun show. We had a Matt from
DSG on a little bit earlier, following him at Divine
Sports Gospel, Great Padres Content. He's also on that new
podcast with John Schaeffer and Kevin Ac that they released.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
We didn't ask him what show prep it's like with
Kevin Acey.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
I would imagine it's a lot like just talking to
Kevin Acy, which isn't a bad thing, but like talking
to Kevin Acy, sometimes you kind of feel like you're
pulling teeth.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
It's like Kevin Kevin is very mood dependent. What you mean,
keV Kevin is very mood dependent.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
And then sometimes you ask him a question and he
knows the answer and then he'll go, yeah, you won't say,
he's like, that's Kevin speaking of it. You'll hear Kevin
on the show coming up on Tuesday at one thirty
and wait for it.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
All right, we're done. We'll see you at.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Six o'clock tonight. Thank you for being here, Ben Fletcher,
samu long out
