Speaker 3 (02:03):
We're gonna try to get to all of it on today,
a very special Monday, but we will start here.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Sammy. You ready to have a great show.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
We are ready to have a great show.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Are you ready to have a fantastic show?
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Yes, the best show, and that.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Is because you are coming back to Vegas a little
bit richer than you were when you left for Vegas.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Congratulations to Sammy.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
W's in the chat all day long because Sammy came
home with a little money.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
It was It's fun when you have three hundred to
four hundred in the MGM account and then you walk
on the plane with eleven hundred dollars in your wallet.
So I was guarding it with everything I had. But yes,
it was a successful weekend out in Vegas in terms
of gambling.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
The profitable trip.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Now, Sammy was one of the only people on the
planet who called Golden Tempo to win the Kentucky Derby,
although he did not give that pick to us, he
camp that for himself.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
In my in my defense, I posted on my Instagram,
I the Golden Tempo the winning ticket. I gave out
eight to nine. Now, in my defense, Puma got scratched
before the race. I had to make a pivot. I
was one of the two people with my mom and
I in the sportsbook that ended up winning on Golden
Tempo twenty three to one odds. Was very, very tasty
on Saturday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
All right, we will try to cover everything on the
show today, including the fact that the Padres now officially
have new owners, so names that we've been talking about
a lot over the last several weeks, but Kwanza Jones
and jose E Feliciano, the married couple, have officially purchased
and now owned the San Diego Padres. This is with
a group of a bunch of people, but they are
going to be the fronts of it. And I say
them in that order purposefully because that's the order that
(03:30):
has come out on every press release. It's Kwanza Jones's
name first, followed by jose E Feliciano. We'll read their
statements in just a little bit. But I do have
a really really funny Kentucky Derby story if we can
start there. Over the weekend, my wife and I were
at Disneyland and we're at one of the restaurants, I
think it was the Carnation Cafe inside of Disneyland at
around three point fifteen three point thirty on Saturday, And
(03:53):
so what was happening at three fifteen or three thirty
on Saturday was the Kentucky Derby. So of course I
pull up the Peacock app on my phone and I'm
watching live as the Kentucky Derby's about to start. There
was a horse that rolled over at the starting line,
which was kind of crazy.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
That was nuts.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
By the way, which horse was that, I still don't know, was.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
It fifteen or sixteen? Trouble getting in the gates.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
So literally, like before the race even begins, the horse
rolls over almost kills the trainer, and I thought we
were about to start with a broken leg or something,
but whatever. We get to the horse races, all of
a sudden, they're about to get started. They go to
one last commercial break, and I just take a look
around the restaurant I was in, and I noticed a
bunch of the dads are sitting there holding their phone sideways,
(04:34):
and so I kind of make eye contact with one
of them, and I flash my screen this way, and
he just looks back at me and says yep, and
go back to watching on his phone. And then after
two minutes, because that's literally all the Kentucky Derby takes, you,
hear one dude stand up and start cheering. The rest
of us all kind of just slam our phones down,
like ah gd we lost the bet again. It was
(04:55):
just such a hilarious moment where I felt like there
was ten to fifteen dads in one restaurant at Disneyland.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Can't miss the Derby.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Baby kids run it all over the place. Mom's trying
to track the all the kids. You know, all the
dads are sitting there doing the exact set.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
All the dads were like, you know, it's not the
best day to go to Disneyland because of Kentucky Derby.
And you know, the family was having none of that,
so they just hopped on the on the stream.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
I had that.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
By the way, that horse that scratched, I'm forgetting what
I think it was fifteen or sixteen. There's a guy
behind me at this forcebook at the MGM who, by
the way, I wanted to think they were fantastic hosting
this all week.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Rich is saying Great White was the horse that rolled
over Great White.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
So someone had a ton of money on that horse.
And once it scratches, you don't You don't get your
money back if it scratches right before it goes like
you you're kind of sol.
Speaker 6 (05:39):
We all had the puma. Thanks Sammy, listen, we're gonna
get it back at the Prettiness. Okay, wait for that,
all right.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Padre's new owners, Josei Feliciano and Kwanza Jones. They have
released a statement. No I'll read the statement. They say
all the right things. They really do action speak loud
of the words, so we'll see how much they come
up with. But here's a little bit of what they
have released. So the Padres are more than a baseball team.
They are a unifying force in San Diego, rooted in community,
connection and belonging. As life and business partners and as
(06:09):
a family. We are honored to lead this next chapter together.
We have worked hard for everything we've achieved, and we've
built it together. We see that same spirit in this
team and its fans, and we know what it takes
to win. We are committed to showing up, to listening
and earning the trust of this community while building on
the strong foundation established by the Seidler family.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
This is about more than baseball.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
It's about boosting the pride, the energy, and the connection
that defines Padres or defines the Padres, investing in the community,
deepening belonging, and ensuring this team remains accessible and endures
for generations to come. We are all in with the
goal of bringing a World Series championship to San Diego.
That is the statement released by Kwanza Jones and Jose E. Feliciano.
(06:51):
He got sent out to media Friday evening. This was
everywhere in the Union Tribune and on social media over
the weekend, and I am curious seven zero four seven
zero star message with the word team Padres fans out there,
how are you feeling now? This new era is officially
underway with Kwanza Jones and her husband jose Feliciano now
being the forefront, the face of the San Diego Padres.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
It's the right quotes, right.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
They said everything you needed to say. It was.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
It was It's cool that we're kind of putting this
behind us because it's been so it feels like what
eight months now, but it feels like a long time
of discussing who's going to be the owner of the Padres?
They said everything that's that's right. Obviously, we won't officially
know until they start actually spending money, but again, we've
talked about it a lot. There are four bids for
(07:38):
this thing, and four serious bids. It's not even counting
the amount of people that were just interested in it.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
All of them were supposed supposedly we'll never see the
official numbers. All of them were supposedly over three and
a half billion dollars, so.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
If you're willing to output, and a lot of people
looked at that number when it got sold, especially not locally,
We're like what the pottery sold for?
Speaker 5 (07:56):
How much?
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Like that's off the jump when when the Mets sold
for one point point five billion less, you got to
figure if you're gonna pay that kind of freight, especially
knowing that the pot or the MLB is likely going
to a lockout next year. I mean, you've got to
be invested in the team, So settle the right quotes. Again,
we can't really give it a grade yet because we
just they haven't been able to make any moves. But yeah,
(08:18):
I'm excited about where where they're at right now.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
I think it's good. I think it's a positive mood.
It's easy to say that on May fourth. We'll see
how that feels on May fourth, twenty twenty eight, and
I feel like that is kind of the on ramp
that we're gonna see what kind of owners these people
will be. But two years feels like more than enough
to me for them to prove themselves to the city
of San Diego. To Padres fans, who again are selling
out Peco Park at a rate that's never been done
(08:41):
in history. This is exciting. I think this should be
cautious optimism for the next generation of Padre's ownership, and
we'll see where this thing goes. I will say for
on the field stuff, kind of a disappointing weekend. You
get to see Gryffin Canning come out and perform well
you could sell. There was some first inning jitters with
Gryffin Canning, but once he's settled in man, he looked fantastic.
And that's what you need out of a pitcher, is
(09:03):
someone who can come in and kind of stop the slump.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
And the Padres were slumping.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
They lost four out of five, the two Chicago teams,
and to make it not five out of six, to
make it just four out of six. Was awesome for
Griffin Canning to do step up and shove the way
he did, especially for the last four innings of a start.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
I thought he was terrific. I really did.
Speaker 6 (09:21):
I was just disappointed. It was good seeing Canning out there.
I was disappointed. We both talked about this on Friday.
You're coming off two series.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
You played the Diamondbacks to Mexico City kind of an
exciting and you're playing a division rival and you're in
Mexico City, play the Cubs, a team that's very good
that you can get up for. It felt like they
didn't take the White Sox seriously into the White Sox
credit they came in and blasted in the first.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Season good they had won seven out of ten.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Coming into the series, White Sox looked very put together,
but the Padres didn't do much to.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
That's what was disappointing.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
It felt like they were kind of under the guides
of we're just gonna roll through this thing because it's
the White Sox and disappointing weekend series at home to
not win that series.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
All right, let's do this. We'll get to the big here.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
We will read all these texts coming in about the
Padres throughout the show today. But it's time for Sam
and to give us the top stories in the world
of sports seven Smash here looked freak is here.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Ready to go back to the office and knock the
socks off your friends.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
I mean co workers.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
It's time for our top stories of the day.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Three three Three days like today are why we get
into sports radio. By the way, that was such a
packed weekend. We have so much to get to. If
you would like to join the party online, you can
a couple of ways for you to do it. YouTube
at San Diego Sports seven sixty, text line seven zero
four seven zero, start your message with team Twitter at
Fletch and Sammy, you can find us in all those places.
We'd love to hear from you today. You are the
(10:41):
best part of the show. Sammy, where are we going?
Speaker 4 (10:44):
So let's head me on. We got to a lot
of Philly fans to listen to this show. Philly beats
Boston and seven Absolute Stunn are coming back down three
to one. Jaylen Brown on a twitch live stream the
following day, calls out the reps and embat for flopping.
He said, hopping his ruinard game Joel and Bead is
a great player, one of the best big in fing
basketball history.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
But he flops. He knows it. That ain't breaking news.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
He also went on to say the refs had an
agenda against Boston, so I think a fine will be
coming for Jaylen Brown.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
How can you not just be extremely disappointed in the
Boston Celtics.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Oh yeah, how can you?
Speaker 3 (11:19):
If you're a Boston Celtics fan today, man like, this
was probably the team that had the best shot to
take down okay See in the championship. I would say
Boston in terms of roster, in terms of star power,
Boston was the team that could give a run at
okay See. I don't know that team exists anymore. I
think the seventy six ers caught a little bit of
lightning in a bottle. They were riding momentum from what
was it was a Game four where Joel Embiid just
(11:40):
completely took over Game four or five.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
Game for you, a big game, but they got blown.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Out right, So he would have been Game five where
he kind of led the charge back from the brink
of destruction. And then Joel Ebid had a really productive series.
I tell you what, Joel Embid's coming out of this
looking like a flower man. He's kind of showing you
what he can be this whole time. And I loved
his quotes just over the last couple of days where
he said Sixers fans, whatever you do, I am begging
you do not sell your tickets to Knicks fans, because
(12:08):
that's not a super hard trip.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
To make Knicks bough.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
No, they don't like each other either.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
They have a ridiculously loyal fan base who will travel.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
He is begging.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
He does not want to see Timothy Shallaman and Ben
Siller in the front row of any of those home games.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
They got enough money, they'll be there. Yeah, they will
they But to that, I love that too. I mean
a is a Laker fans, someone who hates Boston. I mean,
if you, if you ain't the Celtics, how do you
let that happen? And I don't want to hear. I
know Tatum didn't play, but they didn't have MBID for
the first three games. They didn't have Jason Tatum for
a large portion of the season. They were still in
the number two seed. Jalen Brown, I don't like these comments.
(12:41):
Look flopping, Yeah, flopping happens in the NBA. But there
were also some egregious fouls that weren't called the other
way in that game. I mean, they attempted six straight threes.
They they were down twenty points, came all the way back,
cut it to one, and they decided to take six
straight threes. Peyton Pritcher miss threes. Jaylen Brown, I mean
this was all lost. The reps did not have an agenda,
(13:02):
and I know we'll get to some previews some series
here coming up later. But that Nicks Philly series, that
is gonna be fun, and I that feels like a
pick them series to.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Me, Boston, what are we doing? Seriously?
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Yeah? They were a disaster?
Speaker 6 (13:15):
All right.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Let's head back to the Patres.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Potters and Dodgers both get a B plus for the
month of April in the quote ESPN report Cards.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
We think that's fair too high or too low.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Look, man, the Padres are twenty and thirteen, and the
majority of the work they did on that came in
the month of April. Because if we all remember the
first week of the season, which was the final week
of the calendar month March, the Padres sucked, We're garbage.
Right month of April they really turned things around. There
was a couple of seven game win streaks in there.
Padres looked fantastic in the month of April. B plus
is absolutely fair. Now over the first four days or
(13:48):
three days, I guess of May probably wouldn't get a
B plus, probably look at it more of a C minus.
So the Padres hitting is not good enough. The Padres
pitching was just good enough. And I will say the
clutch hitting from unexpected and performers was amazing through April.
Is that sustainable? I don't know, but B plus feels
about right.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
I B plus does feel right and turns its funny.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
The Dodgers got a B plus for a bad month
by all accounts.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Yeah, I would give the Doughters a way harsher grade.
The Dodters have not played good baseball that frankly over
the last week, because it's been a very disappointing week
or so for the San Diego Potters, and they haven't
done a lot to quiet the narratives.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
That they can't beat good teams.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
I'm not saying I believe that, but that's the national
narrative around the Potters. And you know, splitting with the Diamondbacks,
losing the series of the Cubs and then getting shlacked
by the White Sox over over two or three games
wasn't a great look. But the best thing that Potter's
have gon for him is that the Dodters have been
playing really bad baseball. They won yesterday with Justin Robleski,
but their starting pitching staff is really struggling. Roki Sasaki
(14:49):
does not look like he is a starter in the
big leagues and have have had a lot of injuries.
So the division's close right now. The Potteri's are lucky
right now if the Dodters are not kind of playing great.
Speaker 5 (14:58):
Baseball because they could easily eat pulling ahead.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Number three about the NFL, Yes, then let's save it
for the other side. We actually have a few stories
in the NFL that are circulating right now. Text lines
out of control. I don't know what we did to
deserve this tagline.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
Text line is feisty on them.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Taking shots at Travis Dale. It's crazy. We'll get to
some of them on the other side. Plus, there are
three stories in the NFL that are really starting to
circulate a little bit. It's like we're almost within one
hundred days of the NFL season beginning. Let's get to
it on the other side at San Diego Sports seven
sixty live on my Heart Radio app.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
About the free iHeart Radio app.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Open that thing up, search San Diego Sports seven sixty,
add us to your presets.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
That's a little plus.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Button, and then you can leave us talkbacks with the
microphone icon. Those go straight to Sam's computer. We could
plan back here on air if you would like to
join the conversation. Jay Silves on YouTube says, padres new
owners can release any statement they want. Time will ultimately
prove who these people are to this city, exactly right.
Jay Silves Casey on YouTube says, cry Baby time in
(15:54):
Boston has to trust the process as dude Philly is
looking for on man and then text line let's see
where are we gonna start here?
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Nine to one three says Sammy.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
You de man got to you talked about the money
you brought back from Vegas. Six to one nine says
at forty seven years old, Travis Dale looks old and unhealthy,
not long for this world unless he changes his habits asap.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Oh my god, that is that is whoa, that's a.
Speaker 6 (16:21):
That's a.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
It's a rough text for Travis Dale.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Nine one I sent that to Travis. By the way,
we'll see what he responds with. Nine one three says
I'm feeling good. The owners were spot on, but had
a team of attorneys and pr people drafting it. With
that said, it sounds like they have more money than
the Seidler family, so maybe they will be the ones
to bring the World Series to San Diego.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Yeah, having more money.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
And spending more money for this next offseason, saying if
we could bring him in, you're talking about the next
reclamation project in the NFL, someone who could be the
next Baker Darnold. Uh, name them all, all the guys,
you know Smith, Stop number two is a lot better
than stop number one.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Right, We've seen guys get chances left thing right, you
just named them off. Look at Kyler Murty. Now we
don't know how his second act will be, but Kyler
Murray was the guy that there's on the Cardinals were
tired of, and now he's getting to go play for
a better team in Minnesota in chance to crack it,
even though they have a young quarterback you know, of
their own. I Anthony Richardson will be starting again someday
(17:16):
in the NFL because this is a guy who left
you know, off the off the field. At the Combine,
he beat everyone in measurables. He only played thirteen games
in forty started one season. That's what we're kind of
seeing in the NFL now, is you saw those guys,
those Mitch Trubisky's, those Anthony Richardson. Those guys that start
one year have great traits but don't necessarily translate because
(17:39):
when you go to the NFL in high school and
in college to an extent, if you're more athletic and
more physically gifted than everyone, you can crack it. But
when you get to the NFL, everyone is fast, everyone
is is you know, yoked out muscles. It's not You're
not just the best athlete on the field. It's very rare.
There's only a few players in the in the league
that are so much better than everyone in terms of athleticism.
(18:03):
Richardson will get another shot. If I'm Richardson, I'm looking
to go back up a Josh Allen, a Joe Burrow
kind of one of these. See what Justin Fields is
doing with the Chiefs. Look at what Malik Willis did.
Malik Wills backing up Jordan Love gets in a few
games because Jordan Love gets hurt all of a sudden,
he lands a big contract in Miami. So I do
think he will get another shot if you could work
(18:24):
with a great head coach. That's the underrated part of
what you said. You know, Indy's been a revolving door
of coaches. You do feel like Richardson could be something
here soon.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
I really do.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
I think he could go somewhere and if he sits
for a year under a good OC might be able
to pick up a lot. All right, NFL wide or
NFL free agents still remaining are the next thing. There's
a lot of really good ones who are still out there.
So ESPN did a ranking. I'll just kind of throw
out some reasonable names and we can have a quick
five second debate on whether or not it's worth it
to sign him. Juwan Jennings wide receiver, formerly with San Francisco.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
He's got, he's got, he could be really good for someone.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
He's gonna make an impact somewhere. He's twenty nine years
old right now.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
By the way, the Niners aren't back in on him.
I bet you they will be.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
This could be a Kyle Yuschek situation where remember they
let him become a free agent and then wait around
for a little bit just to bring him back. Joey
Bosa available thirty one years old, was impactful with the
Bills when healthy.
Speaker 6 (19:16):
Could he end up to get signed down the stretch
for pass rush out Aaron Rodgers not really a free agent,
probably back to the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Deebo Samuel is out there, He's gonna be thirty. Entering
the twenty twenty sixth season, he was really disappointing with Washington.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
I wonder if he ends up somewhere.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
I think the fact that Tyreek and Keenan Allen or
free agents probably are ahead of him at this stage
in Deebo's career.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
One of the most interesting names for me David and Joku.
If I'm a team, I'm trying to bring him in.
Talk about somebody whose talents were wasted on an organization.
David and Joku was always productive with the broad It
was like five different quarterbacks, right, He just never got
any sort of consistency. Cam Jordan is thirty seven years old,
is a free agent for the first time in four ever.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Was with the Saints forever.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Talk about somebody who as a leader on the defensive
side you want in your organization. I want Cam Jordan
on my team. Bobby Wagner still out there. He's thirty six,
probably way past his prime, but again one of those
leadership things. Another name that is just juicy is held
to me is Trayvon Diggs, cornerback with the Dallas Cowboys,
real Boomer Bus corner. When he spent some time with
the Packers, last year.
Speaker 6 (20:14):
He never got to play. He just signed down the stretch.
Definitely still impactful. I wonder if there's a team who's
gonna take a shot on him.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
All these veterans will end up getting signed. This is
the time of year where they're having rookie mini camps
and they want to see if some of these late
round rookies can pop because they're seeing the rookies before
we are when we get to the preseason and then
to the regular season. So all these guys will have
jobs because they're too good. They will impact the team,
but probably will be a couple months here.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
All Right, we gotta take a break.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
But Jadavion Clowney and Hassan Reddick were the two other
names that I was talking about. Still really good free
agents out there for the NFL. All right, Lakers, will
Luca come back?
Speaker 2 (20:48):
In this series?
Speaker 3 (20:49):
We're gonna tell you on the other side at San
Diego Sports seven to sixty live on Myheart radio app.
All right, Samy and I just had a conversation over
the commercial break that I think every sports fan ever
has had, and it came because we were just talking
about the free agents in the NFL, and I was like,
Oh yeah, Hassan Reddick would be somebody I would be like, Niners,
go get him, except for what he did to brock
Perty's elbow. And if you don't remember the NFC Championship game,
rock Perty's rookie season in the NFL, after he came
(21:12):
in for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo and injured Trey Lance,
brock Perty got the team all the way to an
NFC Championship game. In that NFC Championship Game, Drive number two,
Hassan Reddick came blew up a pass rush and completely
destroyed brock Perty's elbow.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
The Niners were without a quarterback for the rest of
the game.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Philly stomped him, only to go on to the Super
Bowl and get stomped by Yes Sammy's Kansas City Chiefs.
So in that whole process, we started the conversation of
would you rather your team get blown out in a
big game or lose a nail bider in a big game?
And I think it is a complicated conversation because I
look back on that NFC Championship game as one of
the worst days I've ever had as a sports fan.
(21:47):
Because you like watch a team with so much hope,
so much admiration for what they've already done, just to
get absolutely curb stompedon. Nothing they could do about it.
Like Christian McCaffrey was playing quarterback at one point in
that game. We go back and forth of well, would
I rather they had a chance and maybe, like on
a two minute chance, lose the game?
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah? Or would I rather them just get completely blown out?
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Well? I was having this debate with some friends over
the weekend.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
In my opinion, it's have a chance because even though,
like my comparison to this, when the Chiefs went to
the AFC Championship game against the Patriots, d Ford was
called off sides, they got the interception, they were going
to the Super Bowl, they called it back.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
That game makes me want to vomit.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
It literally makes my stomach recoil watching that game and
that it was literally taken out of their hands. But
in that game, at the end of it, when I
look back on it, I'm like they competed.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
They had moments in that game. At least they showed up.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
As someone who's watched their team get slacked in two
different Super Bowls. That's when you're never even in it
and you don't even compete whatsoever in the Niners case,
when your star quarterback gets hurt and you're like, well,
I mean, this isn't even a game.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
I don't I don't know what to do.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Is they can't even run offense because they literally don't
have a quarterback playing that. I would much rather deal
with the heartbreak loss then just never be in it.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
I think I'm there too.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
And again, like I will never forget the moment when
Jimmy Garoppolo overthrew Emmanuel Sanders and the Super Bowl against
Kansas City Chiefs, Like that was the game. The game
came down to one play and it happened, and it
sucked and it was the worst. Frank Clark was the
defensive end right who was in Jimmy G's face when
that all happened.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
But like that moment will never leave me.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
But I don't remember what happened after brock Perty got
hurt in the NFC Championship game. I watched the whole thing,
but I will never remember. I couldn't tell you scored
touchdowns for the Eagles in that game. Everyone scored touchdowns
for the Eagles in that game. But I do think
you're right it's the close ones that stick with you,
and it is the close ones that make the wins
so much better. All Right, it is San Diego Sports
seven sixty. If you have any thoughts on that, would
(23:47):
you rather your team get blown out or would you
rather have a close game? Leave us a talkback on
the free iHeart radio app. We'd love to hear your
thought process on that. NBA Lakers do the unthinkable, at
least the unthinkable a week and a half ago, right,
everyone kind of said the series was over against the
Rockets before the series even began. The Lakers were gonna
be without Luca, they were gonna be without Austin Reeves
at least for the start of that series. And they
(24:08):
have no chance with an aging Lebron. And then Game
five happened, and you thought, oh my god, are the
Lakers is gonna be the first team to blow a
three to zero series lead with Houston starting to get
a little bit of mojo. Game six, Lakers control the
whole thing. Lakers win it, Lakers deserve it. Lakers move
on to face the Oklahoma City Thunder. Congratulations to Sammy
and his Lakers. The question now becomes, will we see
(24:29):
Luca in the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. I
will say Samy and I talked about this before we
got on air today. We both came up with the
same conclusion. If the Lakers win one of the first
two games, Lucas coming back in this series.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
I so I totally agree with that.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
I think because heading of this series it's total wildcard,
well not a wildcard. Mocoma City are a massive favor understandably,
so they blew the Lakers out in every game they
played this season.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
What's jadeb status, That's the thing.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
He's we week as well, which is a big loss
for them. Now Luca for the Lakers, and that much
bigger loss than Jalen Williams for Oklahoma City because Oklahoma City.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
Has so much depth.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
They play without Jalen Williams for a large part of
the season, so it's not a huge loss, but it
is a loss because at the end of the day,
Shay and Jalen Williams are closing the show, even though
guys like lou Dort and Crusoe and players like aj
Mitchell are supplementary pieces that get them to that point.
I think if the Lakers, the Lakers are fifteen and
a half point dogs tomorrow, the Lakers should lose.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
If the Lakers do pick.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
One of these games off in Oklahoma City, then I
think the conversation around do you bring Luca back gets loud.
If the Lakers get beat in games one and two
and they don't even look competitive in these games, why
would you bring him back risk injury for the future
when you're not going to be coming back anyway.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
So Game one is crucial for the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
I think if the Lakers have any shot in this series,
and they're obviously massive dogs in it, they have to
come out and play Game one and win it because
you're coming off a rest advantage. Ever they play every
other day in the series, this is the longest rest
advantage the Lakers will have, and the Lakers need more
rest than the thunderd because thunder is younger than them.
Game one has to be in Austin Reeves Lebron James masterpiece,
(26:13):
and you're gonna have to be talking about a Ruiy Hatchamara,
a Luke Canard to Deandrey and dominating around them, which
is what happened on Friday night against the Rockets. The
supplementary pieces showed up where they didn't in games four
and five, so Lucos shooting round of practice today. JJ
Reddick said there's no update.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
Again.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
I think it goes back to can they win one
of these first two games on the road. If they can,
then I think the noise gets louder to bring him back.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Now, Oklahoma City with and without Jada dominated the Phoenix Suns.
It wasn't even close in any of those games. Phoenix
looked like they were dead before Game one even tipped
off and it was a four to zero series sweep.
Never really had competition. The Lakers, on the other hand,
have been learning how to compete without potentially the best
player in all of basketball on their team this entire time.
I do think there's a little bit of rootability for
(26:57):
the Lakers for the first time in what feels like forever,
where if you have kind of stepped away from the
NBA a little bit, which is understandable, you look at
this Lakers team. They're actually kind of a fun story
to root for right now because it's a bunch of
underdog guys and Lebron James who are all kind of
manning up, pairing together, making some sort of combination with
Marcus smart leading a charge, and then you still have
(27:17):
the history of Lebron, who is playing really good basketball
right now, to sort of back everything up. It's a
fun storyline to get behind, and I'm kind of getting
there with these Los Angeles Lakers, so I hope they
can bring down the Big Beast.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
I hope we get to see Luca in.
Speaker 5 (27:31):
This Welcome to the fans.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
I'm not saying I'm a Lakers welcome in Laurie on
Sex God, Lakers welcome in.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
I am an NBA agnostic as much as I can
possibly be, and I look at the league right now,
and I can pick storylines that are fun. I like
the way Luka Donciic plays basketball. He probably cries a
little bit too much for me, if I'm being completely honest,
but man, he can do things with the basketball that
nobody else on this planet can do. And I like
special and Luka Doncic is special. And I would love
to get to see a Game three or a Game
four in this series where it's Shay and it's Luca battling,
(28:01):
and that would be fun because those are, in my
opinion right now, the two best players in basketball.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
That's what fans does.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Say, and you'd have the narrative of Luca got snubbed
in the MVP conversation where he wasn't even listed as
a part of it. And again, it's gonna it's it's
gonna be extremely tall task. Every time Oklahoma City has
played the Lakers team they got blown out. It was
that faithful nine a month ago when they got destroyed
on Oklahoma City's home floors.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Hamstring and Reeves back in the same night.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
I mean, it was one of the worst nights in
Lakers basketball you could remember in terms of you lost,
got waxed, and your two of your star players got hurt.
The one X factor if we're sitting here a couple
of days from now and somehow the series is won
one or the Lakers pick up a game, is the
fact that the Lakers role players are playing the best
they've ever played. Because three months ago, even during that
(28:47):
win streak, the fifteen to two in the month of March,
it was really Luca, Lebron and Reeves playing exceptional basketball.
Can Reeves and Lebron figure something out where Canard eight
and has been playing excellent basketball right now? I gotta
give him a lot of credit because he was a
major concern for most of the year and didn't step up.
It's going to have to be a guy like that
that steps up and has a career that they have
(29:09):
never never had.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
Look, you just rolled up in here, the run and
only Travis Dale.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
I told you, guys, I sent the message. I sent
the message from the text line and TD is here today.
Happy birthday, brother.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Well, thank you very much. Do you want me to
read you the message?
Speaker 5 (29:25):
Thank you?
Speaker 6 (29:25):
I would like you to read the text out loud.
Have has it already been read to the people?
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Oh it has been, but here I'll get it again.
This was from the six one nine at twelve oh four.
Speaker 6 (29:34):
Okay, the six nine, So right off the jump they
were waiting to send this.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, that's true.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Four minutes into the show today we get this from
the six to one nine at forty seven years old.
Travisdale looks old and unhealthy, not long for this world
unless he changes his habits.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Asad my year.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Tube with us, I am turning the camera to the
forty seven year old man who looks old and unhealthy.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
Since six one nine, you should have seen me at
forty six. Yeah, it wasn't so much, No, it was
so much worse. I'm not I'm so I'm so young.
And Travis, I think.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
You look good. You got a little jawline coming in.
Really yeah? Oh wow?
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Well thanks manks every day. How nice as biceps look.
He doesn't like compliments, you know what. I've never received
them before, not real once.
Speaker 6 (30:22):
It's usually more like God, at forty seven, you look
old and unhealthy.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
You got big birthday plans tonight, big birthday plans. It's
also my mom's birthday.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Okay, we celebrate together, Mama Dale.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
That's right, thank you, thank you. So we're going months
ago and forty seven years Mama Dale had a realit.
Speaker 6 (30:38):
Oh lord, that was it was also old and unhealthy.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
But no, we're gonna go.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
We're gonna go to a little Mexican restaurant up in
Temecula and then go back and have some cake at
her house.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
All right, Now, I've not.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Told anybody on this show what I got you for
your birthday? Would you like to tell the beans or beans?
Speaker 5 (30:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Yeah, I mean I'll tell the beans. I'll talk about
the beans.
Speaker 6 (30:58):
So this morning I open up the gift from Fletch
to myself on my forty seventh birthday, and it is
a set of four stainless steel Wiener holders.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
I guess that's what you call them.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
Yeah, yeah, so it's a it's essentially a flat man
with his hands on his hips, a metal man. He's
made of metal, and then there is a piece of
metal that protrudes out from his hip hip area. And
then you slide a hot dog onto that piece of metal.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
And then you put that on the grill. And that's
how you cook.
Speaker 5 (31:33):
The hot work tonight.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Yeah, Oh my gosh. That's cool about him is if
you your hand.
Speaker 5 (31:38):
Him on your phone, you stand right behind it.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Well, no, if you.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Score them on the top, like you make little cuts
before you start cutting relief relief cuts, well, actually, fold up,
get a little excited.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
Yeah, exactly, exciting exactly.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
So I got to be cooked four of these things
and they are now my new birthday present I'm giving
to everybody.
Speaker 6 (31:57):
But yeah, so, uh so you when you handed it
to me, the hot dog was already placed on said
metal device.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Yeah, I did some pre work. Yeah, so I took
a bite of it as one one.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
How did it tastes?
Speaker 2 (32:07):
I taste it like a I mean a really good
angus beef hot.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Dog that is a full beef dog that TD chumped
into right off the back, but spared no expense here
it was about fifteen dollars and sixty nine cents.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
I'm happy to sixty nine you said, any day for
you pal, TD.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
Happy birthday, man, Happy birthday. I appreciate you guys in
a big way. And sixty one nine thank you as well.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
I do.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Six one nine's just looking out for you. He's concerned
about your well being.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Well.
Speaker 6 (32:33):
I mean, I don't know what I should do though,
Maybe get more sleep, maybe eat something other than angus
beef hot dogs.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
Here you go.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Nine one three. We love you TD and want you
to live to one hundred.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
I love you nine one three. Thank you, although one
hundred i'd be miserable. Yeah, I mean miserable.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
People people like talk about I've been watching the boys
on the show and they talk about being a mortal Mike.
I feel like if you were just like old at
one point, it's like I don't need to be one
hundred and two, you know, I mean, right like where
I can't move, youre just like put me out.
Speaker 5 (33:02):
In the pasture.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
Then yeah, my grandma who looks great man at one
hundred years old. I mean she it was she was
one hundred years old. But she can move around pretty well.
Her brain worked great. Went out to a hundred birthday
party and I said, how are you feeling?
Speaker 2 (33:17):
She's like, oh, I feel okay. You know, God, I
hope I don't see one hundred and one like it's
dark real quick here at the Dale House.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Well, CD, not only do you ruin the clock every
morning on one on one five KGB, you have ruined
our clock as well. I kindly ask you to get
the hell out. Happy birthday, Pat. I'll stay for the
next one too. Okay, Well we're betting on the next one.
Make some money.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Oh okay, well maybe I will hang around, stay on long.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Shots with Sammy coming up next to San Diego Sports
seven sixty live on my Heart Radio app. All right,
we're gonna get to long Shots in just a second.
We need a winner to kick off the week. I'm
telling you Sammy has been hot on Mondays. If you've
been following the show for a little bit, he's actually
been on fire on Mondays.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
It's a strange phenomenon. We got going.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
I and I have been on a heater on a
two by on horn. I picked the derby winner in
vague A Sixers money line Lakers money line. He'd a
hit over on both games yesterday, So we're riding a little,
good little streak into a Monday.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
Now.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
I don't know if we're gonna have time to talk
about this in our number two, so I'm gonna try
to squeeze it in right now before we get to
long shots. But the Aztecs basketball team have made another
international signing. Six foot two point guard slash two guard
David Torresani becomes the fifth player to sign with the Aztecs,
second European pro to commit to the az Techs. He's
been playing professionally since he was seventeen years old in
(34:29):
an Italian professional basketball league.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
The cool part about this is as Tech.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Fans who remember a two thy eleven big man for
San Diego State, Deshaun Stevens, played on the same professional
team as David Torrisani and actually recruited him to the
az Techs for Brian Dutcher and Dave Alaskas. In the staff,
Dutch is over the moon about this guy. I've seen
some quotes from him talking about him. He's explosive, he's
six foot two. He is a point guard who can
(34:57):
play the two guard. This is a great gift for
San Diego State. Highlighted his defense and how he plays
full ninety four feet defense.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
This sounds like an Aztec through and through.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Very excited about David Torresani, Very excited about what the
astecs have done in the transfer portal.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
And big year for San Diego State basketball.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
And it's kind of a genius for the staff to be.
We made so much about the transfer portal and it's
you're basically it's not really there's not really an offseason
because you're constantly keeping your players, try to keep players
happy on your team, goana crup players. Well, we've seen
some big program start to reach in the international pool
because it's it's a golden opportunity. We're seeing in the NBA.
(35:36):
Look at who some of the best players are, Luca
sga yan Is Jokic. I mean all these guys are
coming from overseas and to kind of reach into the
international pool. Also against with guys who have played at
the elite level. They played in in you know, uh
not World Cups, but in the Olympics, against some tops
of your competition, playing grown men, not just in high school.
(35:57):
I think it's I think it's a really smart ad
and I love what they're doing, trying to kind of
get bigger because the front court had some problems and
then they got some nice guards coming in as well.
So very excited for the Aztecs.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Is here thirty eight inch vertical jump Samy, Can you
beat that?
Speaker 5 (36:10):
No?
Speaker 2 (36:10):
I cannot beat that either. He's also very fast.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
He actually pronounces his first name David, so I already
screwed that up. I apologize, David. But welcome to the
San Diego VI, to the San Diego Stadastics. All right,
let's get some long shots here. Sammy ripping through some
sports picks for us on the day, we got a
couple of NBA games in action, Baseball and action all
over the place.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
We'll see what we got, Sammy. Hit it. You looking
for some luck? Want to win big? He was so miny.
We don't even know any time at take a shot play.
That's me and his money with long shots. It's really fun.
NBA games to night too.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Sixers and uh Nick start their series t Wolves and Spurs.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
It's gonna be good.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
We have a very fun slate. So we're gonna be betting
both those games. First, let's head to the NHL. Okay,
let's go to go Ducks and Golden Knights. We're betting
the under six and a half. Now, both these teams
are very good at not giving penalties, so neat the
team makes many penalties. Anaheim ranks first and fewest average
penalty middles in the playoffs. Vegas ranks third. And that's
(37:12):
saying something for the Ducks because when your take on
who they just beat, the Oilers, Leon Dry Sidle, Connor McDavid,
two of the fastest players in all of hockey, and
you're not taking penalties there, that means we're gonna spend
less time in the box, less opportunities.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
For power plays.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
They did have eight goals on the power play against Edmonton,
but Edmonton is a team that's all offense. They are
not defensively reliable. So I like the under to night
under six and a half. Ducks playing good hockey Vegas
as well, But Ducks on the road not gonna have
the scoring that they've had at home in that series,
and I think that's too high of a number of
six and a half. They're gonna go under six and
a half goals in Ducks and Golden Knights.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
All right, let's head to the NBA.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Yes, pause, six one five, canrry the first word, but
says Sam, you picked the derby winner in Vegas and
told us to box an exacta with Puma, who got scratched,
and so happy six.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
To one five, Listen to six one five nine got scratched.
I was literally going to bet it, and on the
day of the race, it got scratched, so I had
to pivot.
Speaker 5 (38:09):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
Oh, listeners are pissed. Listen, It's okay. The previous and
the Belmont are coming, all right. So we got the
under under.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
Six and a half goals in Vegas and and uh
in ana high. All right, NBA playoffs, go, NBA playoffs
six Ers, Knicks. We're getting seven and a half points
on the Sixers.
Speaker 6 (38:25):
Look, I get it, they're coming off an emotional win.
This line open at five and a half favored by
the New York Knicks. But give me Philly. Philly's right
and high right now. They were in control for a
majority of that game on on was it Saturday? They
they you know, bleue La lead but.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
Came up clutch and the way they match up against
the Knicks. I think Phillies winning the series outright number one,
and then in this game tonight, I could see them losing.
But seven and a half is way too big of
a number. Here's why Karl Anthony Towns is gonna have
his hands full in the defensive end against Joel Embi.
He didn't have to deal with that in the Atlanta
series because Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Those guys hate each other too, by the way they
hate each other, which.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
Is gonna be great cinema. Atlanta did not have a
dominant offensive scoring big whereas Philly does. So Karl Anthony
Town's not gonna be just a rover like he was
in the last series. He's gonna have to get busy
on the defensive end. And frankly, Jalen Brunton is a star,
but mckel bridges has been struggling. Was good in that
closeout game against the Hawks, but his minutes have been shrinking.
I just like Philly, Kelly Ubray, Tyres Max, he's the
(39:22):
most underrated player in the NBA. Bj Edgecomb is playing
with a ton of confidence. Trendon Watford Andre Drummond to
spell when Karl Anthon or when Joel Embiid is out
to give Karl Anthony Towns problems. I like the Sixers tonight.
Give us the points plus seven and a half. That
is way too much, even if it's at the garden
all right. Timberwolves Spurs spread is nine and a half.
So Iota Assumo is not playing in this game, who's
(39:44):
a very good scorer off the bench for the t Wolves.
Anthony Edwards will be playing despite that injury. We're gonna
go with the under two twenty and a half though
we got ant coming off the injury. Iota Assum who
is not playing, and Rudy Gobert did an amazing job
on Jokish. He's not gonna shut Wenby down. But if
there's anyone that could give Wemby problems, it's going to
be Rudy Gobert. In that front court, Julius Ryandold's gonna
(40:07):
have to carry the load offensively. If Aunt is a
little banged up, that means a lot of Isopaul and
the Spurs are pretty reliable defensively.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
Randa likes to go inside. This is a driving team.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
When you're driving in on Wemby never the best option,
and then on the other side, Gobert is going to
gonna shut him down a little bit. So I like
the Sixers plus seven and a half in New York.
I like Spurs, Timberwolves under two twenty and a half,
and I like under six and a half, Ducks and
Golden Knights tonight.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Love it those are in Uh.
Speaker 6 (40:36):
I'm sorry that people bet the Derby nice little D
and a half on that one. Sammy, I like this.
I like this the Monday hot streak. Will it continue?
Speaker 3 (40:43):
