(01:51):
seven sixty. You'll find us right away, add us to
your presets. YouTube is up at San Diego Sports seven sixty.
Twitter is up at Fletch and Sammy, and of course
the good old am radio dial right here on San
Diego Sports seven to sixty. A lot to get to
an hour number two. We will get back to the
NFL in a little bit. I do want to start
our two with the Padres because we talked a lot

(02:11):
about the new ownership situation. The Padres have officially exchanged
hands from the Seidler family to a group led by
Kwanza Jones and her husband jose E Feliciano. We'll see
what that means for the Padres over the next couple
of years, but for right now, the Padres are focused
on twenty twenty six. It need to be the tur
or the trends are not great for the San Diego Padres.
The baseball nerds, we'll tell you this is a team

(02:33):
who's probably gonna finish in the mid eighties in terms
of wins.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Will that be enough this year? I don't know. Maybe
it may not be in the National League. We will see.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
But for the Padres right now, some physical things we
can point to and see what has been happening with
this team is they just lost four out of six
on a home stand of two teams from Chicago.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I don't feel great about that. I don't know if
everybody else feels great about that.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
But what you're looking at right now is the team
who is getting really consistent hitting from guys who they
don't necessarily need to be getting really consistent hitting from,
and they're not getting it from the guys they're paying
a bunch of money too, So let's go through real
quick Manny Machado. Nice to see him get a home
run yesterday. He is starting to swing the bat a
little bit better. Had a little bit of an injury
scare Manny Machado, who has been one of the most
consistent pros and all of Major League Baseball throughout his

(03:16):
entire career. You feel like he's probably gonna get two,
if not close to the numbers he's put up literally
every year of his career.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Ramonte Loriano started the season.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
On a heater man off the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Right out the gates, though Ramote Loriano was like the
only Padre who was hitting. He kind of took a
dump the last half the month of April. Xander Bogart's
on fire through April. Are we giving Xander some cheers?

Speaker 4 (03:39):
I've given. Xander has been maybe the most consistent player
on the team up to this point this season.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
I tend to agree him and Miguel Andahar have been
the two best hitter on the San Diego Padres so far.
Ty France probably deserves to be in that conversation. Here's
where we get to the problem. His name is Fernando Tazzi.
Shootier and Jackson Merril and Jackson Merril. Jackson Merril, I
actually just pulled up his numbers over the last month.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Let me see if I can get back to him.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
But Jackson Merril hasn't been hitting the ball all year,
and it got even worse during April. Fernando Tazzis Junior
is actually hitting the baseball, but he's had like one
ball in the air over his last fifteen balls put
in play. Jackson Merril is two to eleven on the
season with a six ZHO nine ops, and most of
that was in between April eleventh and April sixteenth, where
he went nine for twenty with four doubles in a

(04:25):
home run. That was a five game stretch. Outside of that,
he's been awful this season so far. And Fernando Tazzis Junior,
we can get into the launch angle, the attack angle,
the whatever you want, the hoosy doozy, what's he what's
he's Fernando Tazzis Junior doesn't necessarily look like he even
wants to be on a baseball field. No, at times
so far this year. That's the biggest problem to me
is the attitude is not matching up well.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
And I mean this, this the metrics of him hitting
the ball on the ground and cannot get it in
the air. Ay, everyone on everyone on Twitter is a
swing coach now apparently, who as it fixed? Yeah? I
don't know if we're starting to get mad at the
Potter's organization for not being able to fix this. I mean, like,

(05:05):
why this is clearly a a thing with a swing
or it's a mental issue. It's one of the two,
or maybe it's a combination of both.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
And he got the day off yesterday, which Craig Stamon
afterwards said it was about physicality and physically he wants
to get everybody's scheduled rest days.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
In for nial life.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Right now, I don't know that I buy that it's
just a physical thing.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
I think mentally he needs to get back in the
right form for this padres seem to do what it
wants to do. But I do think it was good
that he got that day off yesterday.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
And this is where when they step up a competition. Now.
I know this game was against the White Sox, who,
even though they've been on a little bit of a heater,
they're not some great team. We'd presume at the end
of the year It's like I was with a friend
yesterday who's a massive Pottery fan, and he was like,
it's frustrated, like Machado, it's a home run, it's a
solo home run, because there's not it's not and that's
not m Chada's fault. Machado did everything you could do.
But it's about the fact that there aren't just people

(05:53):
consistently getting on base, and it's rare that you're seeing
these big five six run innings from the pot where
it just it doesn't really happen that much. It's a
gradual batting someone around the bass pass getting them in
winning on the margins because of the pitching staff. And
we're starting to see Ramon Loriano is still a value
piece of this team, but he's not having the start
that he was, and some of these guys are are

(06:16):
starting to come back maybe to where they were because
they were overperforming a little bit. And you know, we're
still having the same conversation about Jackson Merril, We're still
having the same conversation about Nano Tatis. It's a credit
to many Machado that many Mitchad's starting to come out
of it a little bit. I mean, this is kind
of what he does. He goes through months where he
looks like he can't hit a baseball, and then he
kind of ends up with the same numbers throughout the year.

(06:36):
But when you sep up and play the Cubs, when
you set up and play the Diamondbacks, and although the
Giants are thirteen to twenty one, this is a rivalry game,
It's an NST game, It's an important series. These guys
have to hit the baseball. Like I don't really know
any other way to say it. Tatis and Meryll have
to figure out it hit a baseball if they want
to go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
It's like Tatisa Merril are such lynchpins of this organization.
If you want this team to do what you think
he can do, they have to be really good. Now,
the good news for Padres fans, Fernando tatis junior career
in San Francisco is kind of a beast. He's hit
like ten homers there and one hundred at bats. That's
one out of every ten is leaving the ballpark. Tatis
has been a beast playing in San Francisco. We will

(07:14):
see if he can continue. The real problem was really
wrapped up perfectly by this text from the seven to
six to zero. So we'll read this and if you
want to react to it, you can. Seven to six
so says this. I went to Peco Park for the
Padres game on Saturday and could not have been more disappointed.
It seemed like the only people that wanted to be
there were the White Sox players. The effort and emotion
coming from the Padres was absolute crap. What a waste

(07:37):
of money. So I'm going to do my best. Colin
Cowherd here you ready for this, Sammon, let's hear it.
Sometimes there are bands that stay too long at the table, right,
and you have the same group of people, but the
music changes, right, and over history, it could be that
second It could be the third album where you could
tell in the first album they loved making music together,

(07:58):
they loved what they were doing, and then eventually the
music just started to sound like an impression of themselves.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Right.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
You could point to a bunch of different eras in
rock and roll and pop.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
History for people's people's interests changed, the public's interest change.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Right, So the band, while it's still the same people,
they're doing different things. Is there a chance that this
Padres team with the core being the same is maybe
staying a little too long for one more.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
That's an interesting point because I do feel like there's
what's that quote, what's the definition of insanity? Doing the
same thing over and over again, extant different results. The
team is different from year to year, but the core
pieces tenants of the team have been the same over
the last five, six, seven years.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
And I'll tell you Year one with Fernando and Manny
looked like a lot of fun and Fernando was smiling
his ass off. He was hitting home runs like crazy.
I'm not saying that I know something is off between
those two, but something looks different in Fernando Tazzis Junior.
Manny Machado looks like the same duty has largely been
for his whole career. Sure, he looks a little thicker now,

(08:58):
but for the most part, like Manny Machado, Rock sounds
like he looks like Manny Machado. Still, where is the
Fernando Tazis Junior that we all.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Fell in love with?

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Like?

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Where is that guy? I don't know?

Speaker 1 (09:12):
So, of course, now we have Harold Reynolds and MLB
Network for the second time in a month talking about
a Fernando Tazzis junior trade, and for the first time,
I'm kind of taking it seriously, like, is that not
only the best thing for the Padres, but maybe the
best thing for Fernando Tazis Junior. The latest trade was
Lindor for Tatis. Straight up, that's interesting. Why what do
we think about that?

Speaker 4 (09:30):
I mean, Lindor hasn't been very good this year, started
turning it up and then he got hurt. It is interesting.
I mean, if you if you now.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
These are theoretical trades, this is the MLB network throwing
stuff out there. It would feel like the second time
in a month that Major League Baseball Network has done.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
This, Lindor getting a fresh chart in San Diego and
Tatis getting a fresh start. Now, I mean, we My
thing is this. We've seen a lot online, like our
our guy, Matt Devine Divine Sports Gospel, was frustrated with
Tatis and put a tweet out, and a lot of
people there's like split. A lot of people are like, yeah,
I'm frustrated with Tatis. He needs to be better, and
a lot of people have the narrative of, ah, well,

(10:07):
you know, everyone's too hard on this guy, Like no,
like Matt's right. People have a right to be frustrated
when you get paid the kind of money you get
can paid. I always make this comparison. This is why
Kevin Durant rouse me the wrong way. You can't have
all the fame and the money and everything that comes
with that and the praise of being one of the
best scorers of all time and without the hardware by

(10:27):
yourself to back it up. When it came with Curry
with the two rings, I mean, you're going to get
criticism for that. And I know baseball is different, and
you know rings don't matter as much versus the NBA,
but it is a bad look when the rest of
the team is playing excellent baseball to the for the
most part of the season and we are. I mean,
this is not a slump anymore. This is May fourth.
This is this is something wrong with I don't know

(10:51):
his swing, his mental approach to whatever it is. And
it's it's a massive concern because I don't know at
what point, like when does he get out of this.
I don't know the answers.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
I just wish we all didn't call it in the offseason,
you know what I mean, Like I wish we all
didn't have the conversation this offseason what our text line
named it hashtag poudy Nando, Like, I wish we didn't
all come up with that two months ago now and
then watched it play out real time a month and
a half into the season.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I don't know what the answer is.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
It does kind of feel like it's just the same
group of padres again, and yeah, it's I have a
lot of fun watching Miguel and Hart play baseball man,
and he attacks it with joy, he attacks it with passion.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
He's the guys in the contracts.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
He gets them on and heart ty France like they
are a joy to watch play man. But I'm telling you,
Jake Cronellworth, Jackson Merril, I'm hesitant, but I'm gonna leave
Manny Machado out of this right now. But Jackson Merril,
Jake Croneworth, Fernando Tazzis Junior, I'm just not seeing it
right now, man. And it's disappointing to say, but maybe
that's the group on their third album. And the third
album doesn't sound quite as good as the first album.

(11:52):
From hair metal to Grunt, Yeah, it's like they're doing
an impression of themselves right now, and that's not good enough.
So well, we'll see what the padres I got. Hope
this series against the Giants should be able to feast
a little bit. If there's one team in baseball that's
having problems out the wazoo. You should hear the conversations
that Mark Willard's having on his show these days, because
it's back well.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
And by the way, remember the Giants beat them two
out of three down here, right, so you talk about
even though you're up what six games in the standings,
they need to win the series, like there's there's no sugarcoating.
If they lose the series, there is a lot of
the momentum that was made the last month goes way
out the window.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, Kevin's article this morning, I think he released it
was I thought it hit the nail on the head.
Yesterday wasn't a must win game, but it was a
necessary game for them to win, and it was they
needed that to stop the bleeding.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
There.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
I will see if they could turn things around again.
This is us talking here after losing four out of
six games. They could very easily go win four out
of their next six, and they probably will, and we'll
be seeing in a different tune. But these are the
highs and lows you get in with a Major League
Baseball season. I'm more looking at what we've seen so
far this year from specifically one person, and it's not
good enough right now. And if the Padres want to

(12:57):
win a World Series, it needs to be better.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
And you look at so much has been made about
the schedule they played, and it can be an overblown narrative.
It's you can only play the teams in front of you,
and some of the series that they've won have been
against teams that, although aren't the quote most historic winning franchises,
were hot when they played them, such as the Angels
and the Pirates. But you're taking on a Giants team

(13:21):
that we just got into. The records not there, but
anytime the Giants and Padre suit up on the same field,
it's a dogfight. You you kind of thought the records
out a little bit. It's just kind of it's an
NL West battle. And then you got the Cardinals who
took two or three against the Dodgers, really took it
to the Dodgers, who are not playing good baseball right now,
coming in or playing them over the weekend. So there's
not a lot the schedules picking up a little bit,

(13:42):
and there's not a lot of room for Air to
be just giving away series like you did to the
White Sox over the weekend against Chicago.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Were getting closer to the first time the Dodgers and
Padres played this year.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
It's mid May, isn't it. Yeah, it's May May nineteen.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
It's great.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
It feels like they've done the whole loop, Like they've
played all the I know West a couple times now,
and they're gonna play the Diamond Mexican soon and they
still haven't played the Dodgers, which good for you. Major
League Baseball eighteen through twenty eight on Monday through Wednesday.
That's Memorial Day weekends too. Oh yeah, how about that, Well,
it's coming off of Memorial Day weekend. The eighteenth is
the month.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
It's so funny they wait so long for the Dodgers
and Potteries to play. That's the second we get the.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Cup on rivalry, we sure, I think last year it
wasn't until June that they played against each other. Just crazy,
all right, it's San Diego Sport seven sixty. We're gonna
do the Big Three on the other side. If you
have any thoughts, Fernando Tazis Junior, let us know seven
zero four seven zero start your message with team and
if you haven't seen that video of the new trade
proposal that Major League Baseball network, but out go take
a watch, uh and maybe we can play that back
a little later as well. It's San Diego Sports seven sixty.

(14:39):
You're listening live my Heart radio app. Paradise is so
freaking good, yiic.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
I'm I'm excited because I've watched the whole thing. You're
at where are you at again?

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Season two, episode three.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
My wife and I think watched seven episodes of Paradise
over the weekend.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
It's very een.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
That show is incredible, man, And I know we get
on these kicks every once in a while, Like when
what was the Apple TV show that we Severance? When
Severance was coming out, I was telling everybody, this is
the best show on TV right now. You gotta go
watch it. I'm there with Paradise. It took me a season.
In a couple of episodes. Season two is starting off
strong man. I'm recommending it to everybody. This show kicks ass.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
I'm trying to get those uh. We might have to
do a little no carb diets. I don't know how
Sterling K. Brown gets those abs?

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Yeah, what is going on there?

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Where he's in the gym left and right?

Speaker 2 (15:28):
What else has he been in? Because this dude's good.

Speaker 4 (15:30):
He started and this is us with ma anymore?

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Kay, I never watched that show, but Sterling K. Brown,
it's fantastic in this show.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
And by the way, in season two, Aaron Rodgers ex
girlfriend is in the show, Shalen Woodley.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Oh what you said his ex girlfriend? I was thinking
Olivia mun Yes.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Shallean wood Jayleen Woodley, and she's great in it. I've
watched two episodes, but she's great. Elvis highly highly recommend
Paradise on Hulu. I think it's on Disney Plus now
because those companies merged. Awesome show.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
I'm gonna I'm going to see uh with my mom
Devil Worst Product to tonight. Really, we're gonna go get
our fashion on.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Little Meryl Streep, Little Ann Hathaway.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Yeah, well, Emily Blunt, Emily blunts in this one.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yeah, yeah, not a Devil Worst Product guy never saw.
I'm sure I would love it.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
I'm yeah, I'm gonna be the only guy in there.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
No TD will probably be there. He was there. Actually
he went and saw it this weekend. I bet you
he was ready for round two.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Travis Dale loved it though, and he really liked the
first one.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
So I thought about wearing a Gucci person.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Maybe you should. Is that what it's about. It's fashion.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
It's fashion designers in New York.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
That's right up your alley, and you're a very fashion designers.

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Like a Guns and Roses shirt and jeans.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
All right, Sammy, we're gonna get to the big three
and a seconds. We'll get that ready eight five eight
with a good text. In terms of perspective, he says,
I don't know, man, this band put together back to
back ninety win seasons for the first time in franchise
history and are again on pace for ninety plus wins. Yes,
we all want to have teas to perform better, obviously,
but trading him at twenty seven years old is absolutely
not the answer. I want to make this very clear.

(17:00):
I do not think he is being traded or should
be traded. What I am saying is something with Tatis
is off right now with the San Diego Padres, and
I don't know if he.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Doesn't want to be here. I don't know if they
don't want him here.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Something is off with Tatis and the Padres, and I
miss that dude that we had a few.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Right well, I would trade him now. His values at
all time low right now, so trading him right now
would make zero sense whatsoever. But there is something that
they got to they gotta figure out, because you cannot
expect the things that we wanted the city to expect
from this team. If those three guys are not going
to perform up to their contracts.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Right it's we'll see, man. But I hope that we
get that Fernando back because he was the most exciting
thing going in sports. Let me be very clear about that,
Like Fernando Tatis Junior transcended just baseball when he was
first coming onto the scene. Right now, he's a pretty
average big leaguer if you ask me. He's a pretty
good hitter who's not hitting home runs, but he's a
pretty average big league three dollars hitter. All right, Sammy Smash,

(17:56):
the Big three is here.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Ready to go back to the office and knock the
socks off your friends, I mean co workers big time
for about Top stories of the day.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Three three three Jam Eh, where were we going?

Speaker 4 (18:13):
What team that lost in a Round one should be
most disappointed Celtics Boston.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
It's not even close for me. I really look, Philly
had something special. There was something special going on. Maybe
that's to blame more than Boston given it away, but
it sure does feel like Boston gave it away. Now,
when we're talking about talent disparity, you can make an
argument for the Houston Rockets because the Lakers were without
two of our best players. But Houston was also doesn't
really have like they weren't built correctly for this year

(18:38):
without a point guard.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
So I'm gonna say Boston. That would be.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
If I'm a Boston Celtics fan, I'm the most disappointed
in them out of anybody, But it would be between
the Celtics, the Nuggets, and the Rockets.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Yeah, so I agree with you all. Boston, that was
extremely disappointing. But the the Denver Nuggets, just to get
to get be like that, to start to be down
three to one is this was a team that we
thought was going to be a dynasty, just like Boston
did not work out that way. And if you're at Denver,
at least with Boston, you get to sit there and go.
Tatum didn't play in Game seven the Nuggets. You need

(19:09):
you need wholesale changes like you have to. You have
to just get better, all right, Kate, Kate Cunningham said,
the Magic quote made us look take a look in
the mirror. They just extended their coach, jav Bickerstaff today
taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Or are we back on
the Pistons hype train even after you know, being up
three or down three to one coming back or was

(19:30):
that more due to the fact that Franz Wagner did
not play for the Magic.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
They also got the Magic's head coach fired. Didn't he
just get fired.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
Earlier then got fired Jamal Mosley, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
So I'm interested to see what happens with Detroit.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
I think Kate Cunningham actually is in a position right
now to really launch himself to the next level if
he could do some really special things. I already think
he's one of the most exciting young players in the NBA.
But you're talking about him being able to a bring
back Detroit basketball.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
The league's better when Detroit is great.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
M B put himself into the conversation for when we're
looking for the next bases of the NBA. As the
lebron Steph kd Era leaves Kate Cunningham deserves the spot
at that table in terms of talent, but can he
put himself.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
There in terms of winning. We learned that.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Now it's a fun matchup two between you talk about
American guards Donovan Mitchell and Kate Cunningham. Who's gonna win
this series? He's gonna take on that mantle. You feel
like it's a little bit of the passing of the torch.
Kate Cunningham. Pistons had a bunch of pressure coming in
in the postseason as the number one seed, but then
the Cavs also have a don of Mitchell hasn't really
one of the postseason James Harden hasn't really won in

(20:31):
the postseasons. So that'll be a really fun matchup. But
you do feel like there's limitations to Detroit because they
can't hit threes at a great clip. But was impressed
upon Kate and them coming back down three to one.
All right, let's look to let's head Trek Scooble undergo
surgery on his left elbow out to three months. Who

(20:54):
do we see right now is the biggest threat to
the Dodgers. We're assuming that even the Dodgers record, they've
been scuffed lately. Who do we see the Mets have
been awful? Is it still the Potterys because a lot
of people kind of penciled the Potteries in a couple
of weeks ago. Or is that another team?

Speaker 1 (21:08):
I mean, the Yankees are playing some really good ball
right now. Are you talking National League only?

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Either?

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Or the Yankees are playing some really good ball to
start the year so far. And by the way, how
sad is it john Sterling passing away?

Speaker 4 (21:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (21:19):
I mean talking about like the archetype of a play
by play man. It's Vin Scully, Harry's carry. It doesn't
get long before he gets John Sterling. But the Yankees
are playing really good ball right now. The Tampa Bay Rays,
who don't spend anything, are playing really good ball right now.
There is competition for the Dodgers, but I don't think
it's anybody obvious. Like I don't think the Dodgers just
automatically get the World Series this year.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
No, but it's gonna take the.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Dodgers kind of doing what they did in April, which
is scuffling a little bit.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
I'm gonna go with the Cubbies, and the Cubbies we
just saw him in San Diego. The lineup one through
nine can compete with the Dodgers. All about getting their
starting pitching staff back. They're completely injured right now. The
Cubs have the capitol in the farm system to be
able to go out and get an elite level starting
pitcher heading into the postseason before the trade deadline. I
like those picks, But do you think the Cubs are

(22:06):
the biggest threat in the NL?

Speaker 1 (22:07):
All right, let's continue this on the other side of
San Diego Sports seven to sixty. You're listening live my
Heart Radio apps Dodgers, and that's kind of been the
conversation for the last I don't know, since the World
Series and a year ago. For this year, and all
the Dodgers have done is add to their team. What
Blake Snell's about to be back and performing once again.
It is kind of frustrating when you look at it
and you see one team that just feels like this juggernaut.

(22:28):
But the truth of the matter is it's hard to
win in the postseason, man, and baseball is the one
sport where kind of anything can happen, Like in basketball
take the first round of the playoffs this year out
of it. But for the most part, you're getting the
better team over a seven game stretch because it's such
a big sample size and there's only five guys on
the court at a time. Baseball is such a fluky sport.

(22:48):
Sometimes it it takes one person to get really really
hot at the right time, and all of a sudden,
everything in a series changes.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Well, and I believe a lot of this is to
do with the Dodgers' injuries. The Dodgers had been very
interest so far this year between Edwin Diaz.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
It's funny they've had a rough start of the season
and what are they right now twenty one and thirteen,
and it's been kind of a clunky start for the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
Well, that's what I'm saying, is like we're going off names.
The bullpen problems are still there for La now. Ed
when Diaz coming back in three months will certainly cure
some of that. But the starting pitching rotation hasn't been great.
They found Justin Robleski has been unbelievable for them, but
Rooki Sasaki hasn't been all that great. They've had some problems.
She hands been pretty good, but has has definitely been

(23:31):
been sheld a few times. So it's only the Dodgers
are playing great baseball. Shoyotani's a on a hitler streak
right now. He hasn't been playing great. It's just that
we know those guys can turn it on at any
given time. And I think there is a lot of
competition for the Dodgers. Are the Dodgers still a favorite?
One hundred percent? If you had to, you know, you know,
figure out a team to win today, you bet the Dodgers.

(23:51):
But I mean, the last two post seasons they were
at close out opportunities. It's just is tough with the
Dodgers because they've been in basically every situation that the
postseas and could push you in on the brink of elimination,
up big in a series, not a great starting pitching staff,
not a great bullpen, and they've kind of seemed to
overcome all those all those obstacles. But the Dodters aren't
necessarily playing great ball right now, and there are a

(24:13):
lot of teams playing better than them through the first
month and a half of the season.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Yeah, I'm curious to see where this season goes in
Major League Baseball because it feels like this is such
an important season for someone other than the Hudters to
win the World Series with what's coming soon in the CBA,
and I don't know that there's anyone who's gonna get them,
but it feels big.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
The funny thing is, though, if someone else besides the
Dodgers wins the World Series.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Well, it hurts the salary cap. That's what conversation like.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
So the Padres sale in itself hurt the salary cap
conversation from the owner's point of view, like the owners
got hurt by the Padres selling for three point nine
billion dollars. Now, as a group of people, it wasn't
just one person who put up the money. But still
the number is the number, and it was three point
nine billion dollars. That shows the Players Association that, oh,
even a mid mark team is worth three point nine

(25:01):
billion dollars. It resets the market in a way because
the Mets, who are a major market team, sold for
two point four billion dollars six years ago. So what
that tells you is that, oh, mid market teams can
make this much money and are profitable at this rate.
There's no way in hell you're gonna put a cap
on how much team should spend on teams because owners
aren't poor. We're not screaming poverty. And it just kind

(25:23):
of unfolds the curtain. Now, what would happen if the
Dodgers lose the World Series this year and say a
team like the Race, who we're spending like ninety million
dollars on the roster this year, are the team that
takes it from them? What's that conversation look like now
ownership groups, because it's not working either way.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
Right, So it is I wonder how much we'll look
back at the winner of this World Series, if it's
the Dodgers us everyone else, will affect MLB going forward
because if the Dodgers three pet and their payroll is
extremely high, highest in the league, and with the deferred money,
there's gonna be the case of they're gonna be able

(26:02):
to make the case of people are losing interest whether
this is the case or not in baseball because they
feel like it's not even on a fair playing field.
That's the case they can make. But to the point
you just made, if one of these teams and look
at all the teams at the top, the Mets been
a bunch of money.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
They've been awful this year, Red Sox, Phillies.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Red Sox Phillies. So it's not like the teams that
are spending the most money are actually having the most success.
It is early on the year, so it's time for
those teams to get it together. But the Phillies and
Red Sox just fired their manager and Mendoza is safe
for now with the Mets, but we'll see how long
that lasts. So it does feel like this the winner
of this World Series will a do a lot for

(26:39):
baseball and then the interests of baseball and the rules
going forward in regulations of baseball.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
We got three or four minutes here, so I want
to do this. Samy and I are each gonna pick
one NFL free agent and explain and like almost do
a pitch of why your team should want this person
more than anyone else.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
You look at some of the names available.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
Tyreek Hill is out there, Stefan Diggs is out there,
Juwan jen is out there, free agents galore, and some
of the older guys on the defensive side of the football,
Guys like Joey Bosa, guys like Cam Robinson, guys like
Who's the one we were talking about earlier. Oh, Cam
Jordan and Bobby Wagner both available. So there are tons
of veteran free agents available and talk about leadership roles

(27:17):
coming into teams. Is there one guy, Sammy you would
put at the top of this free agent class who
you would want to bring in immediately?

Speaker 4 (27:24):
Tyre Kers watch Haennings. Tyreek Is whether he goes back
to Kansas City, whether he goes the Chargers, whether he
goes there's a lot of the Bills could use him.
The Raven I mean Tyreek Hill, even at age thirty
two coming off the entry. Let's say he's not as
fast as he once was, Well, he's still faster than
watch part of the league. And Tyreek Hill is not

(27:48):
giving up credit because of how fast he is for
how good of a receiver he is. We've seen a
lot of guys. John Ross was just as fast as
Tyrek Hill. We've seen guys be just as fast as
Tyrek kill exuce if they can't catch the football. Good
route runners, so it doesn't really matter if you can
run faster and everybody. Good corners are going to take
away the vertical shot down the field. He is a

(28:09):
very good receiver Tyreek Hill, even at eighty percent of
what he once was, could help a lot of teams.
The Chiefs should be in on him. If I was
the Chargers, I would be in on him, the Bills,
the Ravens. I mean, you could go down a list.
I think Tyreek Hill will certainly be a big boost
even if he's not there immediately for the team down
the stretch of the year, for someone's receiving department.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
I'll tell you, I feel like there's guys who you're
willing to almost take a risk on, and that would
be a Stephan Diggs to me. Like Stefan Diggs didn't
work out with the New England Patriots, however, is still
a wildly talented NFL wide receiver and it's probably what
two years removed from his prime. Like what if he's
in the right situation with a veteran quarterback instead of
a rookie quarterback trying to make it work. I feel
like Stefan Diggs still has a lot to offer a team.

(28:51):
He's not that far removed from what he was. Would
I rather have Tyreek Hill? Absolutely right, but he'll be
more affordable.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
Takes.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Stephan Diggs will be more affordable than Tyrek Hill.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
Do you think the team's in the AFC, Well, can
I give you the guy I'm looking at? Yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
I'm telling you A guy who can make an instant
impact no matter where he goes is Joey Bosa. Now,
it's a risky bet because you're betting that at thirty
one years old, you can get fourteen games out of
Joey Bosa.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
And that's what I'm setting.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
The market that you would get him and be profitable
for is about fourteen games because he's probably gonna miss
a few, but you're just hoping to avoid the big
injury that ends the season. Right, But if you get
Joey Bosa in and he can compete for you for
a full season. I watched a lot of Buffalo Bills
games last year. You guys know that I'm kind of
a Josh Allen fanboy. Joey Bosa can still make a
massive impact on.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
It, right, And if he's the third or fourth pass
rusher where he's not relied upon to be the guy third.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Downs, he's That's what I want him for. I want
him on my team for third downs.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
I'm curious if the team's in the AFC, like all
those teams. I kind of mentioned the Chargers talk to
Matt Mouney Smith last week. I firmly believe did not
do enough in their receiving department. If I was, if
I'm a Charger fan, I am frustrated today going lad
mccaugee's a good receiver. He's not a number one receiver.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
You think Tyreek Hill would want to come back and
play with Mike McDaniels again.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
I don't think so now, because they got Brenton Thompson,
the speedzer from the fourth round.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Now, it was kind of an ugly departure from Miami.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
They both kind of said positive things about each other
on the way out the door, but it was an
ugly final year in Miami for Tyreek.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
You know, Buffalo teams content with Dj Moore. Now, Dj
Moore the acquisition to him. He's a very good receiver. Again,
is he a number one on a Super Bowl winning team?
I don't think so, but he is a very good piece.
Kind of got buried there with Roma Dunza and some
of the talent and Luther Burden that kind of rose
up in Chicago and then you get the Ravens. The Ravens,

(30:44):
I thought added a couple big time receivers in the draft.
Jacobe Lane from USC is going to be really good.
Finally gives Lamar a jump ball receiver. I am curious
that with Tyreek Diggs, Keenan Allen veteran guys, what team
did the most to get the most high their receiving
department and the Chiefs really banking on that. Rashi Rice
being there for the full year and Worthy being healthy

(31:05):
can give you elite receiving core. So it feels like
every team, like I'm excited about that receiving corps, but
it does feel like in the AFC there's a lot
of question marks that one of these guys could definitely
tip the scales in favor of one of those teams.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Seventy seven days away from training camps, seventy seven days
away from the full all I need is training camp,
like you're in, like OTA's right now, the vult rookie
mini camps. Yeah, so we're we're getting stuff starting to
trickle from all these different teams. Like we got the
news today that Anthony Richardson and the Colts, the Colts
have declined this fifth year option but just wait. The
wheels starting to turn, wheels starting to turn. Pretty soon,

(31:37):
Jerry Jones is gonna be involved in something.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
Yeah, ten days or so, when rookie MINTI camps are
done with the new cycles a little slow, Jerry Jones
will say something.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
We're gonna get a Dak Prescott expose on what actually
happened between him and his fiance. Pretty soon things are
gonna start trickling out a little bit more, a little
bit more, and then waterfall here we come. By the way,
are we taking bets yet? Who's on Hard Knocks this year?
I had this conversation with my brother in law the weekend.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
Who is it last year? What was it they did?
The chargers were coming.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
From My pick for this year, which it seems like
a no brainer, The New York Giants, John Harbond, Yeah, Jackson,
darts of personality, cam' skataboo's a madman, Molik Neighbors coming
off of injury. Like I think the Giants are the
easiest pick in the world to be hard knocks.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
That makes sense. They got a lot of young talent, and.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
They didn't make the playoffs last year, that has playoff
hopes this year.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
It just makes all the sense in the world.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
Well, John Harbon, now they have Now they have like
five different hard knocks because they do the in season,
which is dumb. Yeah, I hard Knocks is fun because
it signals that the NFL is here.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
And then I just need that theme music once. Yeah,
I'm a hypedd hear Lim Schreibers say, welcome to the
twenty twenty six hard You know.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
What they need it? They need to change it because
the problem is is the the final hard Knocks day
is after cut day, right, so they used to have
it be where it would be this dramatic, like the
the undrafted rookies who they be following on hard Knocks
they see if they made the team. But now you know,
because of social media.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
I'm excited for it. We'll see seventy seven days away
from training camps. That should be exciting for everybody. All right,
San Diego Sports seven sixty We will get you ready
for the sports Day coming up next live on Myheart
Radio app.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
You were doing it from the MGM.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
But was that a pretty incredible experience, Sammy Long, It
was unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
Yeah, again one of the k MGM man, they were
they were so cool taking care of us, got to interview,
meet a lot of people, and yeah, it was. I mean,
Benevete is unreal. I mean he he is one of
the next stars already in the sport. And you know,
to be a Mexican fighter fighting on Seco to Mile
weekend means means a lot. We've seen all the best Jular,
Caesar Shavez, Oscar de la Joya, Canelo own that holiday

(33:42):
where it's it's you know, it's a it's a must
them fighting every year there. And the way he moved
up in weight two hundred pounds, destroyed Zerdo. He took
him out in the sixth round. He's a he's a
combination puncher with fast hands but a lot of power.
He's he's really exciting in the sport. And yeah it was.
It was a blast going to be out there for
five weeks. So want to thank d MGM once again.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Did you go full Johnny drama screaming in the crowd,
jumping up and down.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
It was on press row. I was on press row, so.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
You had to be a little maintained.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
Yeah, I was. I lost my voice actually at the
derby a few hours before, so I was. You can
hear it. Today. It's actually kind of coming out right now.
But yeah, when when the derby we hit the winner,
I yelled a little too loud and felt it, you know.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Yeah, I obviously we went to asked fight night here
in San Diego. A Vegas fight night has a little
bit of a different oh yeah, largeness to it, and
it seemed like it was massive. You look like some
of the videos I saw posted. You were pretty close
to some of the action.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
No, we had some weight, had some really good seats.
Teeve Pratt hook us up from the MGM. We also
Johnny Manscore and Jujuballo and they were out there San
Diego's own. They grabbed him on our radio road. It
was it was good talking to them. Johnny released a
little thing on.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
The show, already leaked something he wasn't supposed to leak.

Speaker 4 (34:55):
Yeah, he said they're fighting in Michigan. That's all we
know is they're fighting in Michigan next and.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Will they They're gonna be on the same card again.

Speaker 4 (35:02):
Yeah, I think they're kind of doing a little duo again.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
That's awesome. It's good for the future of boxing.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Man.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Well, congratulations to Sammy who was living out his dream. Thursday,
through Sunday of this past week, and he's back in
San Diego in one piece and richer than when he
left San Diego.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
So pretty much the perfect Vegas trip.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
He got paid to go talk about boxing for four days,
and he got paid by the casinos for winning some beds.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
Blackjack was very kind to us this trip.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
How about Sammy Long who usually is a blackjack poop
poo or was Craps not kind?

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Is that why you were on the boat?

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Craps? He's very kind, But I I've been rolling. We
had a these women were rolling at the other side
of the table late like Friday night, and everyone was winning,
and then they got in and couldn't roll the dice right,
so no one was winning, and they literally looked at
us and go, why aren't you guys cheering? I go
because I've been sitting here for twenty minutes and I've
lost about one hundred and fifty dollars watching you three roll.

(35:52):
So we but no craps. Overall was good. We had
a few rough moments at the craps table.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
There always is a few rough mom All right, Schaeffer
and Sleewall will be your drive home today, I'm sure
John Shaffer has plenty of thoughts on this. The San
Diego State Aztecs bringing in another professional transfer, this one.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
His name is David Totasani.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
He's an Italian professional basketball player, been playing pro basketball
since he was seventeen years old. San Diego State's getting old,
They're getting tough, They're getting physical. He's six foot two,
he has a thirty eight inch vertical, is an explosive athlete,
can get down the court super super quick. Dutch has
talked about his defense, which is why they recruited him.
He also is coming from a former Aztec, so Deshaun Stevens,

(36:34):
who you'll remember. He was an ASTech I believe in
twenty eleven was playing on the same pro team as
David Torressani. So Deshaun Stevens was a big part about
getting him to San Diego State. He had glowing things
to say about the Aztecs and coach Dutcher and hopefully
David Torresani. He's coming in and he's going to be
a stud for the Aztecs. He's a point guard, two guard,
Combo has a great three point shooting percentage for his career.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
This is a big move for.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
San Diego State, who is now added five count him
five to the transfer from the transfer portal to go
along with the return of Tay Simmons and Elsie Never.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
We were worried about that they wouldn't have enough players.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
They got plenty. Man, they have been cooking this offseason.
I'm excited for Assets basketball next year. It's a big
year for him in the Pac twelve. All right, that's
it for us today. Samy's gonna keep it going. Coming
up next, Schaeffer and Slee Wall will be your drive
home at San Diego Sports seven sixty. I will see
you tomorrow live on Myheart Radio app.
