Speaker 1 (00:00):
We will start from the beginning.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Ladies and gentlemen, I've been Fletcher. That's Sammy Long. That's
how it starts tonight A pod race. Look to get
back on track up in the Bay. Help on the way,
b n be A postseason continues. Plus, I want winners.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
I like the Sixers plus seven and a half in
New York.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Now that even willis.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
I like Spurs, Timberwolves, under two twenty and.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
A half, got the moves. I'll give you.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
That under six and a half, Ducks in Golden Nights tonight.
Speaker 5 (00:24):
The man is resourceful beyond anything you can comprehend.
Speaker 6 (00:29):
Time to head to the San Diego Sports seven sixty
studios to get in the zone with Fletch and Sammy.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah, let's get it going here in our number two.
Speaker 5 (00:38):
It's San Diego Sports seven sixty. If it's your first
time joining us, my name is Ben Fletcher. That beautiful
man over there is Sammy Long.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
We do the show every day from noon to two.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
We talk gambling, we talk sports, we talk movies, we
talk all sorts of fun stuff. And you are as
big a part of the show as anything. So text
a seven zero four seven zero. Start your message with
the word team or give us a little YouTube chat
San Diego Sports seven sixty. And of course right after
we broke on that last segment, we get all the
texts and all the YouTube comments that are going against
(01:07):
Sammy's pick of the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
None of that could happen while we were on the air.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Brian's rolling with me sixteen and a half.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
Brian was just the fastest one on the keyboard. He
was the one who got it in.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Brian. Brian knows.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
So I submitted the pick and now we are all
just hoping the Lakers don't lose by too much.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
A five eight s as I took Sammy's picks but
up them on the line. So nineteen and a half,
seven and a half in the wild Colorado game and
five just need a safe win tonight or two seventeen
and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
The all lines are probably the way to go. With
Sam's long.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Five eight knows what he's doing.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
Especially how it's been going recently, it's been like, just
missed it, just missed it. The two out of three's
are becoming more brutal. Two out of three.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Rich is giving over for two thirteen and a half,
and that's a solid bet.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
I think the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I think there there is a lot of points scored
in this game tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
What's the I want to know what the over under
is on ok c's total, like just their points, because
I would probably set it at one twenty two.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
That's a little high.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
They score a lot man against the Lakers, who don't
play a whole lot of defense.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
But with Luca out, the Lakers are playing more defense
because starting SGA tonight marks smart all night.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
The key in this game.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
I think so much of this series, by the way,
depends on how the referees call SGA two. Like I know,
he gets a lot about the foul merchant and all that.
A lot of that sometimes goes away in the postseason,
and I think last season, for the large part, it
did go away a little bit in the postseason because
the refs don't call games quite as closely.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
But if SGA can get.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
To the free throw line, let's throw it out there
at Let's say he attempts fourteen free throws tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
I think the Lakers are in a lot of trouble.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yes, it all comes down to if the Lakers get
in foul trouble early tonight, they're in there have problems
because Marcus Smart's gonna be stuck on SGA all night,
but Vando will come in and get minutes because Vanda's
a great defender. The problem with Vando He's not a
good offensive player. So when Vanda's out there, and especially
against a team like Oklahoma City that has five guys
(03:04):
that can defend at a high level, playing five on
four is not the best way to go. So Marcus
Smart can I get in foul trouble in the vandam
minutes when he's out there. Other guys have to step
up and create their own shot because you can't just
stick anybody on SBA all night.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Now, if we want to get a little conspiratorial, we can't.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
The NBA would love for the Lakers to make this
a series against There's no rigging going on. The Celtics
are already out. The Warriors are out. Like the NBA itself.
They love the fact that the New York Knicks and
Ben Stiller and Timothy s Chalomay and everybody's at those
games and everybody's hyping those games out. They love the
fact that the New York Knicks are relevant again. They
would love for the Lakers to make this a six game.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Can you imagine this, celeb ros, if it was a
Lakers Knicks NBA final.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I mean, it's never gonna happen, not this year, but
it would be crazy. It would be crazy.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
How about Shalame by the way, it was awesome dissing
the met Gala and Kylie Jenner his girls to go
to the to go to the Knicks game like a
true's a that's a true fan right there.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
I just wish he wore clothes that fit him to
the next game. Well, what's up with his style? He's
wearing sweatshirts that go down to his knees. He's wearing
like super baggy pants, like Timothy shallow May.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
You're here, He's Chalome, whatever the hell he wants shallow May,
he's very handsome. Are you really critiquing what Chalome is wearing.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
A little bit?
Speaker 5 (04:22):
It's like his sweatshirts would fit a man five times
the size of him, but he's wearing him.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
It's listen as someone who watched Devil Worst Product to
last night, you know fashion, and as someone who understands
is a fashionista. M hm, okay, this is something that
you're not understanding that Chalame is bringing to the town.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Was it, by the way, Devil Worst Products is good?
Speaker 4 (04:40):
I liked it. I watched it my mom. It was fun.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Sure, Well, what's our number grade on it? One out
of ten? H I think eight an eight?
Speaker 4 (04:49):
I think it was.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
I think it was a very if it was sweet
Ann Was she good in the movie?
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Oh yeah, she always is.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
She's fantastic, And I like that.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
I think with the movie, if you go into it
just ready for a fun movie, you're not putting a
lot of like, oh is the camera work fantastic?
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Or is you know this?
Speaker 7 (05:05):
Like?
Speaker 4 (05:05):
It was enjoy I enjoyed the movie.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Sure. The met gala, by the way, was outrageous. What
what are we wearing?
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Did you see Russell Wilson? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:12):
He actually it looked pretty good next to Sierra. I
will say I thought Russ was getting a little chunky
this offseason.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
He looked good.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
He looks spelt well. That no that that suit was hiding.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
It it was it was sucking him in too. It
was real like he might have been wearing a what
do they call it? A corsette? The ladies like Russ
might have been wearing one of them on are some spots,
but like Heidi Klum dress it up as a statue.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
That was crazy. By the way, Kendall Jenner, is that
Timothy shellm.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Is girl Kyle Kylie's Kylie.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Kendall Jenner looked amazing, stunning, gorgeous. I don't know. I
don't know if I saw pictures of Kylie, but I'm
sure she looked great too.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah, he Ll May was like, no, I'm not going
to the met gala.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
That is cool to appreciate that about Timothy Shellman. All right,
it is San Diego Sports seven sixty. Kevin Asy's going
to be joining us at one thirty to talk lots
of padres. If you missed the news it sounds like
from Kevin as article today, Joe Muscove Nick Pavetta will
continue to actively rest for the next several weeks, meaning
they are getting conditioning in they are not throwing.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Isn't that funny wording?
Speaker 5 (06:11):
Now he put that in quotes, So that's from the padres,
is what they're telling the media. But continuing active rest
for the next several weeks. And he says that means
they're conditioning, they're working out, they're not throwing baseballs. So
Joe Moscove, Nick Pavetta, it doesn't look like anytime soon.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
So what they're hitting the treadmill, that's what active condition.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Yeah, last time Joe Musgrove was hurt, Remember he dropped
a weight on his toe or something. He was doing
a lot of pool workouts as he was working his
way back, trying to get his conditioning up that way.
I wonder if that's going to be the same this
time around.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
But I don't know.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
They're not throwing baseballs, is what we've learned, and they're
not going to be throwing baseballs for several weeks, is
the quote from the Padres, which is not good news
anyway you slice it. Oh and by the way, Fernando Tazzi,
Junior Jackson merril Manny Ouchatto came up with an opportunity
to steal a game away from the Giants last night,
and three non competitive abs in a row spell doom.
Let's get to the big three of our number two.
(07:00):
Some positive news in the world of sports. Sammy smash
it look is here.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
Ready to go back to the office and knock the
socks off your friends.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
I mean Coworkers's time for about top stories of the day.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Three three three six one nine.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
Sounds like Fletch wants skin tight sweaters so he can
check out the goods.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Thank you six one night. You know I know fashion,
all right, I get that world. I am in Bold.
I don't even need to see Devil Worst Products. You
already know it all.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
You are Devil Worst Product. I am.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
I never even saw the first one. I know I
would like it.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
You gotta you gotta walk the Runway.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
It's Meryl Streep, right, yeah, Meryl Streep.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
And Hanne Hathaway m W blant.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
See.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
I'll tell you the reason I know I would like
that movie is because Michael Scott, the character that Steve
Grot has on the Office, loves the devil.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
J Novak, Ryan in the Office, is in the movie. Really,
he's serious, a serious role in the movie. Wow, it's
funny with bj Novak is a serious role because the
old time I'm sitting there, I'm like, this is Ryan.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
See, because even in Inglorious Bastards he's not really playing
anyone serious. He's kind of playing Ryan set in Inglorious Bastards,
which is always kind of wild to watch. But yeah,
maybe I'll give it a shot, all right, Sammy where
are we going?
Speaker 4 (08:12):
All right?
Speaker 3 (08:13):
So Gen Ram is some drama, A couple of big
stories out of the PGA two are actually in the Live.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
So John Ram.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Hints he's stuck with LIV due to his contract. Now, Ben,
you can speak to this little bit more. But signed
a huge deal, paid a ton of money by Live Live,
could be going under, but is kind of hinting that
he still might not be able to return to the
PGA Tour. And then on top of this, other big
golfers today, Phil Mickelson was going to be in for
the PGA Championship has now as of an hour ago,
(08:42):
put the PGA Championship is out due to personal reasons,
following Arsenal health reasons, following up on the Masters where
he also was not in form. But Max Homa will
be going for the PGA Championship, all right.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
So a lot of this is speculation because that's all
we can really do. First of all, we will never
see what was in the Live contracts. We don't even
have official numbers. We have speculation on what some of
these guys were paid in the number for John Rohm
was somewhere between four hundred and six hundred million dollars
We do know that it was a massive upfront signing
bonus for a lot of these guys, which is why,
like you see a Brooks Skepka thing, He's signed the
(09:16):
contract and then.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Was able to leave a few years later.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
John rom speaking to the media, has three years left
on his deal after the finish of year one of
his contracts.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
It was a four year deal he signed with Live Golf.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
He certainly made it seem like there was something in
that contract that, no matter what, he was not returning
to the PGA Tour anytime soon, or at least until
the end of the contract. I'm curious to see if
LIV does completely go under, they're still trying to save it.
They're still trying to continue this season. If LIV completely
goes under, does that absolve the contract? I would think
(09:47):
it would, right because unless he signed something that said
even if LIV Golf ceases to exist, I'm not going
back to the PGA Tour until the end of the contract.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Like that's the only thing.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
If it's just.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Crazy, how I mean, listen, if you're a lawyer, I
want to text him, Wou'd love to hear your thoughts.
But I mean, if LIV goes under, how could they
enforce a contract. And if John Rom was dumb enough
to sign to, I guess he made a bunch of money.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
So I don't know how dumb you are. If you're
making six hundred million dollars, that's the thing. There's a
lot that I would sign if I was offered six
hundred million dollars. But for John Ram, he kind of
the thought process with John Rom was very He was
a PGA tour loyalist, right, and he was out there
speaking on it saying, yeah, these guys should not have
gone over to Live Golf. This was a mistake. And
(10:31):
then all of a sudden, a year and a half later,
John Rom signs it. At the time, the conversation surrounding
John Ram from some PGA to or insiders was this
is his retirement account that he just opened up with
Live Golf, and we're gonna John Rom's gonna disappear after
his commitment to Live Golf. Maybe he's still in that headspace,
Maybe he doesn't want to come back. Maybe he just
wants to do majors and be done. And if that's
the case, that's fine, Get off my TV screen about it, though,
(10:54):
I'll see you at the Masters once a year.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
It is funny you see this in soccer.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
I mean, you've seen guys go to the Saudi League,
like Christiano Ronaldo, who I get him. You have all
the hardware. You're like, ohall's gonna make it, make a
ton of money. I hope these guys are able to
come back, like, I hope that's not the case, because
it is fun that you've seen this. Scotti is on
this sense of dominance, and then Rory went back to
(11:18):
back Masters Scotty kind of narrative. Now he's hit three
straight second place finishes, so we're not calling him Rory
because he's won so much, but like, it is kind
of funny that they feel like they've swapped places a
little bit over the last few months. And it'd be funny,
you know, Homa and Ram and all these guys get
back into it because it just makes the majors even better,
especially by the way, when Tiger and Phil aren't playing right,
(11:41):
because those are two of the most recognizable names, not
only in golf but in sports. Adding big as many
big names as possible to possibly playing on Sunday is
a good thing.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
And I hope these guys are able to able to.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
Compete now on the Phil sign. I have a feeling
something might be coming out about Phil. I have no
knowledge of what that could be. I Phil obviously has
had his troubles in his past. A lot of people
around San Diego know that, but it is weird that
he was a late scratch from the Masters, now a
late scratch from the PGA Championship. Like something might be
coming out about Phil that he's maybe trying to stay
away from, or there is something going on with his health,
(12:15):
and I feel terrible if that's the case.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Hopefully Phil's gonna be okay.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
Golf is better with Phil, although Phil certainly has a
closet foll of some demons, So we'll see what happens
with him.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
What's next.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Sammy the NFL so Kenneth Walker, new star running back
for Kansady Chiefs Superowl MVP, was on Kay Adams Show
Up in Adams Today, What are we doing here? And
said it feels good to be appreciated and wanted somewhere.
I know they got high expectations that I'm ready to
carry that on my shoulders. He also said that the
Chiefs want up playing the Seahawks in Seattle this year,
(12:47):
that he'll tap up his teammates, but that'll be about it.
So and he also said that he knew he would
be leaving the Seahawks halfway through the season. So does
it seem like a lot of love loss there between
Kenneth Walker and the Seattle Seahawks. Think though, the Seattle
Seahawks made the right move ay letting him go, and
then made enough moves in the offseason to stay as
one of the favorites in the NFC.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
So that's what this is all about, right.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
Kenneth Walker wasn't gonna get the money that he was
wanted to get with the Seattle Seahawks, and I think
he knew that, which is why he said the thing
about knowing halfway through the season last year he was gone.
I think the big part of this is Zach Sharbonay.
Zach Charbonay, before he got injured last year, was outperforming
Kenneth Walker in a lot of the metrics. He was
the goal line option for the Seahawks through the majority
of last season. He was racking up some numbers that
(13:31):
used to be Kenneth Walker's. So I think not based
on the fact that, oh, the Seattle Seahawks were a
terrible organization to Kenneth Walker. I think the Seattle Seahawks
just saw that they might have a better version of
Kenneth Walker already on the team in Zach Charbonnay. So
he was starting to get more of those touches in
high leverage situations.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
That could be what this is all about. It's the
fact that his job.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Was starting to get taken, and so he took a
little shot at the Seahawks. On the other side, that's
who you just welcomed into your running back room, Sammy.
Taking shots at an organization for giving someone else better
touches because someone else was performing better. You got yourself
a defense gradually performing better.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Super Bowl MVP. It's interesting.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
One guy, Zax Charmady, wasn't even on the field of.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
The exactly exactly where was he at. He was sitting
at home, ripped his acl This is both teams won here.
Both teams won here. I on the Chief side of things,
I do think Kenneth Walker was a needed addition.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
I think he's going to be great with the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
I really do.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
The Chiefs have not had a running game since Cream
Hunt the first time. I mean, Cream did all he
could last year. But the Chiefs running game has been
pretty abysmal for a couple of years now, and it
was on full display when Mahomes had a run at
the highest clip of his career ended up ripping his ACL.
The Chiefs run game was just flat out terrible last year.
I think a lot of to do with Matt and
Aggie and a lack of talent in the running back room.
(14:47):
So it's big for the Chiefs and on the Seahawks
side of things, it's smart. You can't just teams that
win Super Bowls, win World Series, win NBA Finals sometimes
rush because they just want to keep everybody and running
back that's not the way to do it. Zach Charbonaiy
is a very good running back. They're able to take
Jenderium Price at pick thirty two, the other running back
out a Utre Dame. They replenished that hole. And they're
(15:10):
a young team with a lot of talent. And when
you're paying Jackson with the jig, but you're gonna be
paying Sam Donald likely a bigger contract, you can't just
pay everybody. So I do think it was a best
of both worlds for the Chiefs and for the Seahawks.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
All Right, we'll get you ready for Padres Giants game
number two. On the other side, think Kevin Acy's going
to be joining us at one thirty. We got some
big questions for Kevin really not necessarily about what's happening
on the field right now, but what's happening off the
field and in different media markets.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
We'll get to it all.
Speaker 5 (15:35):
Coming up here on San Diego Sports seven sixty Live
on my Heart Radio app. The Giants were struggling, they'd
lost a bunch of games in a row, and they
had a guy making his first appearance on the mound,
Trevor McDonald. I'm pretty sure that was his name, and
he looked fantastic against the Padres. Gave up a first
aning home run to Jackson Merrill. After that, he was cruising,
kept the pitch count down, was kind of handling dudes
(15:55):
left and right. Today is gonna be much tougher now.
Logan Webb is gonna be on the mount for the
Giants today. He is their ace. Walker Bueller on the
mound for the Padres, not their ace. We'll see Walker
Buller has been fine so far this year. I honestly
think I've been really impressed with what he's been able
to do, hasn't always gotten the run support. We'll see
what goes down today, but just interesting matchup for sure
(16:16):
for the Padres, who have been really easy outs for
starting pitchers. Starting pitchers has carved up the San Diego Padres.
Their hitting has come late in games against bullpens. Logan
Webb has been fantastic in the past for the San
Francisco Giants.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
He's two and three so.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
Far this year with a four to three o er,
which is not great and far off his career numbers
with the Giants, but he is their ace. And the Giants,
who'd been scuffling a little bit, they're fourteen and twenty
one on the year. This is what they look for
their ace to do, which is stop skids. Now their
skid got stopped last night. We'll see if it continues
here tonight.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Right, and we're looking one hundred percent at the past
tonight because.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Walker Buler.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
I'm want to give Walker Buler a lot of love,
because he has pitched much better than I think a
lot of people thought he would so far into this season.
And you're thinking, even though the ball was flying out
last night in San Francisco, that's that's gonna help him
out even a little bit, a little bit more.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
They got to get to the Logan Web.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
To be fair, of the Potters didn't get to him
once earlier on this year at Peco, and that the
second week of the season. But I mean, we're talking
about Pavetta being injured, Muskrove and these guys have held up.
The reason that they've been on a skid overall for
the last week and a half has not been because
of the starting pitching staff or the bullpen.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
It's been because these guys don't hit.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
And I mean coming off last night when machadout a
chance at the end of the game, maryl had a chance,
Hoatis had a chance, and it was it was ugly.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
And that those are some ugly at bats.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
When some of those guys, especially Tatis, you gotta feel
like they got to get a lead in one of
these games, try to get it to the bullpen. But
I know it's early. I know it's what we're sticking
to Miles may fifth, But we're talking about tie breakers,
like you're this is an NLS opponent.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
This isn't just someone who you're just playing.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
You know, one series every year the Giants are up
three to one on you so far as a whole.
And I know that the Giants have really scuffled against
everyone else, but a when the margins are thin, when
you're competing with the Dodgers. They beat the Astros last
night and the Diamondbacks. I mean, you have to really,
you know, win these games. And it would be a
real shame if the Padres are the only team that's
(18:21):
keeping the Giants alive in the postseason run because they,
you know, beat up on the Potres every time. These
are really big next two games, because it doesn't get
any easier when you take on this the Saint Louis Cardinals,
who have done a very good job recently and took
it to the Dodgers over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
This this is a big game tonight.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
It is frustrating.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
The Giants are losing to everybody except the San Diego Padres.
We'll see if anything can change the round tonight. Again,
the story doesn't change day to day. I know where
I'm looking at with the San Diego Padres. It's Jackson Merril.
It's Fernando taziast Junior. It is Manny Machado. Nice to
see Jackson get a home run last night. I think
it was the longest home run the Padres have hit
all year outside of that Mandy Machado home run in
(18:57):
Mexico City. So Jackson Merril a charge into him, man,
and that was a bomb. It was a no doubt
or right away dead center orders.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
It is so annoying though that when the Patres hit
home runs like Merril and morianno solo shots.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Always solo shots.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Yeah, they were both solo shots last night. And I'm
telling you, like I'm not kidding.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
I was sitting on the couch watching last night and
Ramone Loriano hits his home run in the ninth inning,
and I'm like, oh, this is the moment, Like Padres
fans swam, this is what you're waiting for. Closer on
the ropes, giants really scuffling. They haven't won a game
in a while. It's like they forgot how to win
for a little bit. And you have your guys coming up.
You could not have drawn it up any better. Ramone
Loriano hits the home run. Fernando Jackson manny boom boom
(19:36):
boom down in order. Fernando's at bat is with a
half swinging strikeout.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
You got Jackson Merril weak ground ball to.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
The right side, excellent played by Luisa Rice to finish
him off, and then Manny Machado a non competitive strikeout
as well. So frustrating into last night's game. We'll see
if today can go any different. I'll be honest, I
was really hopeful going into the ninth inning that Sam
and I were gonna have a really fun Padre show,
and that's just not what it is. So Kevin Acey
is gonna come talk to us about the Andres next
and can't wait for that. Text line is already very
(20:03):
excited about Kevin ac jumping on after the last week's appearance.
We'll talk to keV on the other side. Icy in
San Diego Sports seven sixty. You're listening live on iHeartRadio
app Sam. He's gonna keep the party rolling after that
from two to three, Schaeffer and Sliwa will be your
afternoon drive home.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Today.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
We got Kevin Ace on the line, our Padres insider.
Kevin's out in San Francisco. Kevin, how are we feeling.
Speaker 8 (20:27):
Fantastic?
Speaker 5 (20:29):
I'm looking at some reports out of Sports Illustrated saying
that there's a Korean insider reporting that the Padres maybe
calling up Sung Mung song in a surprise move.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Do you know anything about that?
Speaker 4 (20:39):
I do not?
Speaker 7 (20:41):
Very interesting, No, did not, did not think that it
was impossible, but did not know he's filming up today.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Well he may not be. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
It's on Sports Illustrator right now and it's I don't
think anything official has happened.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
But what would be the corresponding move? If you think
that does.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
Happen, it would be their first move with a position player,
and they have some flexibility. But I just don't see
where is there an injury that we don't know about?
Is Bryce Johnson going down as Nick Castillano's gonna be dfad?
(21:22):
I mean, I know I'm only doing anything.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
It could be something with Jake Cronawerth getting hit by
a pitch last night. I don't know. I was trying
to kind of rack my brain doing the same thing.
Speaker 7 (21:32):
Yeah, I don't know of a pending move. I mean
that would be but hey, I don't know. I don't
know that we take Sports Illustrated in any sort of anymore. However,
I haven't seen the report, and so if what they're doing,
because what they become is an aggregation site right where then?
And so if they're getting it from a Korea quote unquote,
(21:56):
that's me quoting you Korean insider, that could be entirely
legit and and something from Sung on songs side, and
I'll have to get up phone with you and check
it out.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Okay, sounds where did we get off?
Speaker 7 (22:08):
I mean we'll see you know. I mean we're an
hour from going to the ballpark anyway, so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Right, all right, Kevin.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
Then in your article, which is where I go first
for all Padres News and the San Diego Union Tribune,
you gave a little bit of an update on Joe
Musgrove and Nick Pavetta. It doesn't sound like there's much
new from the team, but I thought the wording was
interesting because you quoted the Padres it said something essentially
that continuing active.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Rest for the next several weeks.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
So is there any update on those guys or are
they just on treadmills and not doing anything else.
Speaker 7 (22:40):
They're they're with the team, they're getting treatment, they're you know,
stain in shape, they're not throwing, They're they're not at
that point. And that's why I wanted to give the
update and just make sure that I kind of understood that.
You know, look, the idea is still that these guys
are going to pitch in twenty twenty six. No one
(23:00):
guaranteeing it, but it appears by all accounts that there
is a confidence that they will pitch again in twenty
six for the Padres. So, okay, are we a playoff team?
Speaker 4 (23:14):
All right?
Speaker 7 (23:14):
What can we do to get us to the point
where when these guys come back, we are in playoff
position and we're a better team for having them, right,
That's what we're gonna do.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
And what we're gonna do.
Speaker 7 (23:24):
Is let these guys rest and get to the point
where they can, you know, come back. It's there's just
cannot be any rush, and that's just where we're at there.
There really aren't going to be updates for a while, unless,
you know, we find out that uh, you know what
we found out that they can't pitch. But the fact
is this is very similar to what Nick Pavetta had
(23:44):
and started twenty twenty four. He came back, he finished
the rest of twenty four, he pitched all through twenty five.
You know, they believe that with some rest he'll be
able to go again. And then with Joe. It isn't
necessarily the Tommy John surgery. It is, yes, but there's
(24:05):
just all sorts of stuff that can happen. There's tartlage,
bone stuff, there's chronic stuff that you know, pitchers have
that because they've been pitching a long time. But the
Tommy John surgery, it's not like that. According to everybody,
it's not like that needs to be done again. They've
a lot of specialists who said, nope, graft is held,
everything's good. It's just Joe is feeling discomfort, has some
(24:27):
inflammation in there and need some rest.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
There's been two times in the last month that MLB
Network keeps throwing out trade scenarios for Fernanzi Junior, mainly
with Harold Renels is there. I mean, because to me
it seems weird that they would entertain this when he's
not playing well. I feel like you'd be trading him low.
I mean, why is this such a media narrative?
Speaker 7 (24:46):
Well as the Harold Reynolds are Greg Amsinger narrative.
Speaker 8 (24:50):
The same reaction where I'm like, this is weird.
Speaker 7 (24:53):
Do I not watch enough MLB Network? Do they do
this all the time? Is this like a nightly feature?
Like what stars would be good to trad because I
understand that, Like, Okay, let's have some fun and discuss,
Like I honestly don't know the context that they're they're
talking about, Like as I'm with you, like, first off,
creating Frana Touchies Junior? What are what you been talking
about here? But second of all, like who's creating for
(25:16):
Fornano Touchies Junior right now? Like I don't I just
where is this coming from? Is this I don't know,
I'm gonna just throw out a bunch of stuff. Is
this agent driven? Is this? Like? Where is this coming from?
No idea? And if it were not two TV guys,
I would ask questions, But it's as far as I.
Speaker 8 (25:36):
Know, it's two TV guys now.
Speaker 7 (25:38):
Harold Reynolds is well connected in terms of former players
and coaches and and all that. Like where, like do
people think TATIS is unhappy? I mean, I honestly, I'm
I'm spitballing because I've got zero idea why this would
be being talked about right now.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
Yeah, I think the first time it happened to CAV
all of us were like, oh, well, major League Baseball
Network needs some stories. They're gonna run with this, and
it's a fun scenario. And of course you're talking about
like Francisco Lindoor Fernando Tazzis Junior. Those are two bright
young stars in this game. So it's fun and easy
and kind of clippy and you can grab you in
this world of virality. Two times in a month, though,
sounds weird to me. And that's the only point we
(26:17):
brought up earlier today, is it's just weird that it's
now happened twice in a month where it's a similar
conversation about the Mets and the Padres. And then this
offseason it was a bunch of New York radio guys
saying that it's gonna be the Yankees, and that would
make sense because that just seems like a very Yankees
thing to do. We'll see, though, until we hear something else,
it's gonna be weird, all right. keV Jackson Merril, nice
to see him get going a little bit last night.
(26:37):
I mean, outside of Luisa Rice making a stellar play
in the infield to kind of end the game in
the ninth Jackson Merril hitting a home run was a
good site for Padres fans.
Speaker 7 (26:46):
Yes, you hope, so, I mean, yeah, I don't want
to get ahead here, but the guy had a real
nice approach last night. He actually has for a few
games because for him, besides, you know, confoundingly not you know,
hitting right handers in particular breaking pitches, that really chasing
those pitches, that's the issue. And then like not even
(27:09):
like close chases. Like because the guy could hit anything,
and he has you know, a decent batting average when
he hits falls that are outside the strike zone, it's
one of his great talents. But it's also his curse
because he thinks he can hit anything, and he has
been swinging at terrible pitches, not even like because like
none of us can sit here and judge a major
leaguer and go, oh, that was a terrible pitch to
(27:30):
swing at, because you know, it's really hard to hit
good pitching. But like Jackson's been swinging at pitches that
were never strikes. Well, the last few games he's been
doing a lot better job at that. So yeah, hopefully
that's a good sign. And that was stop balls crushed
last night. It's one of the few mistakes that kid
make made to Trevor McDonald's that was a really well
pitched game.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Canning just came back, Marquez, you know, gets sent down
to the miners. Are we to presume that when g
Little gets here that it's going to be Bueller that's
on the way out, or there's gonna be someone else?
Speaker 7 (28:01):
Well, yeah, I don't know, man, this is a real
up in the air thing. So they they decided that
Aaronan Marquez was hurt enough to go on the il
and so there's that. That's nice, let him kick the
can down the road. I mean, I would think it's Matt.
Speaker 9 (28:18):
Waldron, But when when did they decide that Walker Bueller's
reached the ceiling? Because they're actually still very excited about
how he pitches a lot of the time.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
So it's kind of like, well but wait, is he
going to actually be what we think he can be?
And I don't know if that's they're going to be
able to determine that in the next two weeks, So,
you know, Bueller Waldron, I don't know. If these are
two guys that who knows what's gonna happen with them.
Speaker 8 (28:48):
I'm you know, maybe they both have probably a couple more.
Speaker 7 (28:51):
Starts, because supposedly Gilito has a couple more starts tonight.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
And I assume Sunday and we'll see what happens.
Speaker 7 (28:59):
Gellie, it could be in two weeks.
Speaker 8 (29:01):
So they like what they're seeing out of Bueller, just not.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Enough of it.
Speaker 7 (29:06):
So it's kind of like, okay, so what's his start
like tonight? Okay, what's his start like on Sunday? And
then we'll go from there.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
Kevin I wrote at the beginning of the year a
list of once a month questions I'd like to ask you.
And now that it's the May fifth and it's our
first time having you on in the month of May,
what is your May fifth? Check in on Craig Stammon
and the job he's doing a with like with the
media with your scrums and b as the manager of
the padres.
Speaker 7 (29:30):
Here, well, we'll start with the least important and with
the media with the scrums. He's fantastic, he is. That's
a huge part of the job and he's very good
at it. I think that he has I don't recall
like the first couple of weeks, and it sure seems
he struggled with when to take pictures out because he's
(29:50):
a pitcher and he wanted to keep him in there because.
Speaker 8 (29:53):
He liked that when he was a pitcher and he.
Speaker 7 (29:55):
Wanted to believe in his guys. And I'm not saying
he's been perfect.
Speaker 8 (29:58):
But like you know, some of the times I've gone
the question and.
Speaker 7 (30:01):
It's worked out, and you know, I think he's done
a pretty good job with that he is in the
middle of I mean.
Speaker 8 (30:08):
Obviously it worked out well after they started two and.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Four, two and five, and you know, was it two
and five, Yeah, one.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
And four, two and five that he got him out
of the or he didn't.
Speaker 7 (30:18):
Get him out of that, but they got out of it.
And one of the manager's jobs is to make sure that,
you know, two and five doesn't become two and eight,
two and ten, and so right now, forget.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
What is it?
Speaker 8 (30:29):
Is it two and five, two and six over the.
Speaker 7 (30:32):
Last seven or eight games. Well, his job is to
whether that's through conversations, whether that's through.
Speaker 8 (30:39):
Something said in a in daily hitters meetings.
Speaker 7 (30:43):
Whether that's a meeting. And I'm not saying that's what
they need to do, but whatever however it is, whether
it's just like kind of spreading the word through the
team leaders or an encouraging word here or some whatever like,
it's it's his job to make sure that the culture
of the.
Speaker 8 (30:58):
Team is that, you know, this doesn't become two and.
Speaker 7 (31:02):
Ten and suddenly the Potters are only a couple of
games above five hundred. Oh now they're playing the Dodgers.
I mean, so yeah, that's that's what we'll judge him on.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
All Right, keV We're on air for the next fifteen
minutes and then Sammy's got another hour after that. So
if you find something good out on Sungmn's song, give
us a call back.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
We'll break the news here. How about that?
Speaker 4 (31:20):
Is that fair?
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Right on? Okay? Sounds good? Kevin, a cy R Padres insider.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Thanks Kvain.
Speaker 8 (31:26):
All Right, see yes, a.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
Podres report with Kevin Acy is brought to you by
Hamul Casino Resort. Hey, players, this is all yours Hamul
Casino Resort, the players plays.
Speaker 8 (31:40):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (31:40):
If you haven't seen the story yet, it's in Sports
Illustrated and it's saying that a Korean news outlet called
Navor is saying that the San Diego Padres are calling
up infielder Sungmun's song today amid their series with the
San Francisco Giants. Now, the corresponding move, I think is
the more interesting part of that who's going down?
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Hey, Cornaworth, that's a that would make sense.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
Right.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
He hasn't hit, but he makes a lot of money.
So is he gonna be the first one to go down?
Or is it gonna be cass he's not making very
much money. Is it gonna be Bryce Johnson who's not making.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Very much money?
Speaker 7 (32:12):
Right?
Speaker 5 (32:12):
I guess it would be like money does talk sometimes
in these situations. Now, Cronilworth got hit last night and
it looked ugly, So I mean, maybe there's some sort
of injury correspondence that can come with this. But if
he goes on the fifteen day il that clears up
a spot.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
I think that the.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
Corresponding move is almost more interesting to me than whether
or not he comes up today.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Right, because Coronainworth, I mean it's certainly of all those
guys you would point to Cronaworth going down.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Now you take what's.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Getting one thirty liability in the lineup.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
It's awful if you take if you take a part
the the fact that you know Jake corona Worth's doent
a lot for the Potteries over the years. I mean,
his contract is is one of the worst on the team.
Because you're You're not getting a lot from him at all.
Castianos has been struggling, but the last week or so,
I would keep Castianos out.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Match up by matchup, you have a power bat in
your lineup. Seen a lot of pitchers across Major League Baseball.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
At least with the Castianos, youven if he's having some
great year, you feel comfortable throwing him in there in
a really big spot late in games because this is
a guy who has played in some massive games over
the years. I the Crona work thing is a problem
that's not getting enough attention because of the Tatis and
Meryl struggles.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
But will Mar last night playing better.
Speaker 5 (33:19):
But at least Chrona Worth defensively is as solid as
it gets. You know, at least on the defensive side,
you have one of the best middle infielders or first
basement in the game. But offensively he's done nothing for
you this year.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (33:31):
Interesting report out of the Sports Illustrated, which again, if
you listen with Kevin, I don't know how seriously we taken.
But maybe it happens later today, Maybe Kevin calls us
right back and has breaking news on the show. San
Diego Sports seven to sixty will close this thing out.
Get you ready for going along with Sammy coming up
next live on my Heart Radio app. Nine to one
three saying you gotta keep Crona worth because of his contract,
but still bench Crony DFA, Bryce, gotta keep Castillanos.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
We'll see if the reports are true.
Speaker 5 (33:58):
Potentially Padres are gonna get Sung moun Song up today
to join the team.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
We'll see.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
He had a really nice spring and I know people
are really excited about him. That would of course require
a corresponding move. We'll see what that corresponding move could be.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
If the rumors are true.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
Nine to one three is also predicting a Fernando Tazzis
junior home run tonight. Should we put the bag on
Fernando Tazzis junior home run tonight?
Speaker 3 (34:18):
I mean, as a leading as a leading member of
the San Diego betting public, I do not feel in
good conscience that I can.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Tell that what you're calling yourself these days, that's it.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
That's what I'm I've given myself that it's other people
have said. I haven't said it. Sure people have said
that it's rumors in the twitter sphere. But listen if
it happens great.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
But my buddy.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Career, he's hit ten home runs at Oracle Park. In
his career.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
It's like one hundred and fifteen at bats, ten of
them have been home runs. Logic would show you, numbers
would show you that he if he was due to
hit a home run, it would be at Oracle Park.
It just hasn't happened, and his swing is completely changed.
I don't know if everyone saw that little stick figure
graphic that was going viral on Twitter yesterday of Fernando
toatzis junior swing path, but it has completely changed over
the course of his career.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
I literally we got to Vegas over the weekend. My
buddy got in town and his he he we were
the Laker game was starting at ten minutes, but he
won it in the Potter game was starting at ten
minutes as well, and he's like, go get a Bryce
Johnson anytime home run in I was like, are you
sure you want to make that bet?
Speaker 4 (35:24):
He goes, we gotta go get a I go this most.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Random home run bet there's ever been Bryce Johnson and
home run and then I didn't go place it for
him even though I told he would, And then it
didn't hit.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
So I made him some money.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
All right, Well, I'm doing it for you. Nine one three.
Speaker 5 (35:36):
I'm putting it in right now, locking it in. Fernando
Tatzis junior. Tonight is the night for his first home run. Uh, Sammy,
that's about it for us today. Final score prediction for
Lakers and okay, see tonight, I got mine. You go
one twenty three, okay see, And I'm gonna stick with
you if you say one oh seven, I'm gonna stick
(35:59):
with you and say one oh nine Lakers that should
cover within seventeen and a half points.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
And so.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
I think it's one ten, one five, okay, see, Okay,
close game. We'll see Game one between the Lakers and
the Oklahoma soone as it heads up. If the Lakers
win tonight, I'm going to be a menace on the
radio at twelve o'clock tomorrow. I just want to give
everyone a heads up.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
And you know, if they don't cover the spread tonight,
I'm gonna be a menace tomorrow on the radio. How
about that big I told you so tour coming your way.
It is San Diego Sports seven sixty. We've got an
hour of Sammy coming up next. I did want to
mention one more thing. Oh yeah, Sammy wants to bring
Joe Dreams in studio.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Yes, we do that.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Yes, how do we make this happen?
Speaker 3 (36:39):
First off, I will DM Joe Dreams right now, living
Joe Dreams, because you're living. If you're not living Joe dreams,
what are you doing?
Speaker 5 (36:45):
Everyone knows Joe Dreams. He's a beloved member of San Diego.
Text line, YouTube chat. Would you want to have Joe
Dreams and studio Joe Dreams?
Speaker 1 (36:51):
We can try.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
I met him at an ever Bowl.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
It might be too big for us.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
I don't know. Say DM in right now. If you
want to.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Try to bring Joe Dreams in studio. We can live
Joe dreams.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
We can. All of San Diego is living Joe Dreams.
Why can't we live from Joe Dreams.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
We'll see all right at San Diego Sports seven six Y.
I'll see you tomorrow, Sammy, see you coming up next
