Speaker 1 (00:00):

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm excited about it.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
It brings a lot of people together.

Speaker 3 (00:05):
Now live from the East Set Studios of San Diego,
Sports seven sixty Weego in the zone with Fletching Sammy.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah, let's get it go and pup Thursday. What's happening?
Everybody been Fletcher, Sammy along with you till two o'clock today, Sammy.
We'll keep the party rolling after that. Go along with
Sammy from two to three. Schaefer and Sliwa our new
afternoon drive show will take you the rest of the
way home. Busy show today. Couple of guests for you.
Derek Togerson with NBC seven is jumping on. We're gonna

(00:38):
break down for Nano. Tatzis Junior Swing. We're all gonna
be swing coaches today, just like the Internet loves to do.
And then Coach Kintara is gonna be jumping on at
one thirty. A story that broke yesterday that we're keeping
an eye on is this Joe lacub comments to Sportico
where he essentially hinted at there not being a baseball
season in twenty twenty seven. We'll get into that as

(00:58):
the day goes on as well Lakers and OKC game
number two coming up later tonight, as well as Netflix
taking over the NFL. We are slammed on a Thursday.
What's happening everybody, Sammy, You're ready to ever great show?
I like, the best show ever may be greatest best
show we could ever have, The Goat Show? Is that
what we're calling this one today?

Speaker 4 (01:18):
We have to do this show first and then other
people can say it's the Goat Show.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
That's right, that's exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
What's some high expectations to put on us before we start?

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Well, that's the next two hours for you, the greatest
show in the history of radio. So let's get it
started with this Padres played yesterday. The Padres win five
to one yesterday. I gotta tell you this is maybe
one of the more impressive Padre wins of the season
in my mind. And I know that sounds kind of crazy.
It's May seventh, who really cares about the ongoings of
every single day life in Major League Baseball? But I'll

(01:47):
tell you why it was impressive to me because Craig
Stamon's fine kind of found his pocket as a manager.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
It feels like every button he's pushing right now, is working,
even the ones he sort of screws up. And he
sort of screwed up the Ty France a bat yesterday,
but Ty France said, he hits a triple down the
right field line and it was a sliding dive missed
by the Giants, but it was the go ahead runs
for the Padres. Craig Stammon said, you know what, Matt
Waldron's been struggling in early innings. We're gonna give him
an opener today. Brag Lear Rodriguez goes out, uh pitches

(02:14):
a perfect first frame and then Matt Waldron comes in
and is fantastic first six and a half innings, and
then they close the game out with Adrea Morojone and
Mason Miller. Craig Stamon pinch hits or a substitute. Xander
Bogarts in defensively at shortstop after sung Mon Song had
a couple of rough at bats. Xander Bogart's first appearance
at the plate, the first pitch he sees home run
to left field. Everything just kind of seems to be

(02:34):
working right now for Craig Stammon, and a lot of
credit goes his way, and I think a lot of
credit goes the player's way because they're buying in to
whatever Craig Stalmon is doing, and he's doing it a
little alternatively, something we never really saw with Mike Schuldt,
something we never really saw with Bob Melvin, and Craig
Stammon's sort of figuring out his own way as a manager,
and it's working right now because you're seeing a little
bit of buy him from the players. I love the

(02:56):
way the Padres played yesterday. I thought that was a
very complete game from them, from the opener to the
starter to the closers. Everything worked out yesterday for the
Padres and it was a nice, boring, business like win
for the San Diego Padres, which rack up enough of
those and you're heading right back to the postseason.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
I think Craig Stalmon has deserved really high marks for
him as a manager. To everything you just said, it's
very refreshing coming off Mike Chill, who was kind of
nauseating to cover, I'll be honest, like, and he talked
about how the media got after him, I mean, because
he wouldn't ever change. It was the same thing every day.
He just run the same lineup out there. He would

(03:34):
mess with the order. It's cool that you would think
that the rookie manager who a lot of people, even
the biggest Craig Stalmon fans, had some concerns when he
was hired of like does can this guy really crack
it at the major league level on a team that
has World Series aspirations?

Speaker 2 (03:50):
You would think that guy.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Would be the one who didn't want to, you know,
shake up what is saying, go shake up the apple
cart or whatever, like that's that's what you would think
that you wouldn't want to kind of ruffle feathers to
some of the stars, moving Tatis down the order, making
Machado Tatis Merril Bogart's all take off days. That's something
that that's a hard conversation. Machado's made it very clear

(04:12):
over the years he does not want to take off days,
even though the best thing for him is to take
off days.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
So I gave him all the credit in the world.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
I think Craig Stamon's an excellent job to the first
month and a half here. And it is a comparison
when you're looking at Tony Vittello on the other side,
who is a rookie manager. He comes from the college ranks.
Salmon comes from being a former player, and if you
were comparing the two in the same division now, the
Potterys do have a much more talented team than the Giants.
Craig Stammon, there's some problems with this Potter's team. Craig

(04:43):
Stammon is not one of them. And I don't know
if I would have said that before the season started.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
I really think he's been terrific so far, and I
kind of feel like he's a three point shooter who's
just making all of his shots right now. Like yesterday,
everything just worked out for Craig Stalmon, which is nice
to see. Now that's against the Giants, who have really
struggled this year. Tonight you take another step up in competition.
It's the Saint Louis Cardinals coming to town to take
on the Padres at Petco Park. Tonight's game on ESPN.
By the way, it's a prime time for the Padres.

(05:10):
Karl Ravitch probably in the host seat. I think Adam Motovino,
who used to be a player for the Cardinals, is
making his first appearance on an ESPN broadcast tonight, so
it'll be fascinating to see Padres in primetime, different start
time by like twenty minutes. Who cares. But it'll be
interesting to see how the Padres stepping up in competition
tonight with their ace Michael King on the mound tonight,

(05:31):
if they can keep the good times rolling, because I
do believe one two in long shots, we call that
a streak, and right now the Padres on a streak.
Does the streak continue?

Speaker 4 (05:39):
And this is an interesting comparison this series. So when
you look at the Cardinals a it feels like a
big game tonight in this sense. So of not a
lot of national pundits are praising the Padres. I think
we in San Diego know that there's a lot of
talent with this team. But to be fatter than national pundits.
When the Potter's have stepped up and played better ball clubs,
they haven't won, or at least they haven't won this year.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
They haven't looked great. This is a prime opportunity again.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
This Cardinal team took it to the Dodgers last weekend
Friday and Saturday, beat them up pretty badly. Actually, Dodgers
salvage won on Sunday, but the bullpen is actually really
rough for Saint Louis twenty seventh in the league. So
historically as of this season, the Potteris have really done
well when they've gotten the bullpens. But this team does
rank sixth in power and kind of surprising that wasn't

(06:25):
really a big expectation for the Cardinals was that they
would have have the top top six in power. But
that is something that you want to see in this series,
a step up in competition when you're beating these teams.
Like when the Potter's took on the Cubs, the Cubs
out slugged them. Outside of that Game one, the power
was on the Cub side. Statistically, the power is on

(06:46):
the Cardinals side in this series. But if the Potter's
are really going to make a statement on a national
broadcast tonight where a lot more people are going to
be tuning in besides just local people in San Diego,
it does feel like kind of a semi big game
for changing the narrative nationally on the Potteris.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
And also, you're gonna be good at home, like the
Padres has been kind of weird at home this year.
So remember they started the game off, or the year off,
with six straight home games Detroit and San Francisco. They
lost four out of six of those games, and then
they had a seven game home stand against Colorado and
Seattle where they swept the whole thing. They played terrific baseball.
But then that last homestand they just had against the
two Chicago teams. What they do there? They won two

(07:23):
out of the six games. So it's like the Padres
at home haven't necessarily been the same team. And I
would like them to take advantage of the forty five
thousand plus that are going to be at Petco over
the next three games or four games against the Saint
Louis Cardinals and really try to fire some in there
for the home crowd, And it'd be good to see
them have a little bit of that energy that we
saw yesterday at home. All right, let's get to the

(07:44):
big three of our number one again. Joe lacub comments.
They're a little disturbing if you're looking to the future
of Major League baseball. We'll get to those in a
little bit. Plus Netflix is about to own a day
in the NFL. We'll tell you why in a little bit.
But Samue, let's get to the big three here of
our number one. Go ahead, smash your looked.

Speaker 6 (08:01):
Freak is here.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Ready to go back to the office and knock the
socks off your friends.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
I mean coworkers.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
It's time for the top stories of the day.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Three three three YouTube is up at San Diego Sports
seven sixty. Go ahead, give us a subscribe. Text line
is open seven zero four to seven zero. Start your
message with the word team. Get on in there any
way you can with this show. We'd love to have
you part of the team. Sammy, where are we going?

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Aaron Rodgers out the man himself always.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Cost season, so we need to talk Aaron Rodgers every
day of course.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
And Aaron Rodgers for US radio hosts who's runs in
the off season, they're trying to find stories. Aaron Rodgers
and the Cowboys basically need a story. Always something there.
Aaron Rodgers, though purty and rapport, on his way to
Pittsburgh for a visit with the team, but an all
likelihood expected to sign back with the Pittsburgh Steelers. This
comes after the last week Kendrick Bourne, receiver for the Cardinals,

(08:56):
trying to kind of recruit him to Arizona.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Do you like this?

Speaker 4 (09:00):
For both sides from steiup perspective and for the Aaron
Rodgers perspective. Who do you think say is winning here
or are they both winning?

Speaker 1 (09:06):
It kind of feels like they're both losing. Look, I
would imagine this is Aaron Rodgers' final season. Aaron Rodgers
is fine, and he's an okay quarterback at this point,
he's above average. He's still one of the best thirty
two people at the position on the planet. I have
no doubt in saying that the Steelers are fine. But
unfortunately that's all this is. It is two kind of
fine things pairing together for another season where they're probably

(09:29):
gonna win eight or nine games, be good enough to
miss out on the top ten of the NFL draft,
but not be good enough to make any noise in
the postseason. I don't love this for either side. I
really don't. I kind of thought that the Steelers were
going in a different direction when they let go of
Mike Tomlin or parted ways with Mike Tomlin. I thought
that they were going to do probably the wise thing,
which is trying to skip a rebuild, which I guess

(09:50):
if the money's right with Aaron Rodgers, you potentially could
still do that, but they need to get cheaper and younger.
On the defensive side, they need to add to the
draft through the draft. On the offensive side, the Steelers
feel like they're still in a little bit of no
man's land right now.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Yeah, I've been very vocal. I don't.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
I don't see that if I was an Arizona Cardinals
fan to be throwing a parade today, seriously, because while
you're probably not gonna have a great twenty twenty sixth season,
you're gonna be picking Arch Manning or Dante More next year,
along with Jeremiah Love and the Arizona Cardinals, along with
Traming Brian, Marvin Harrison Junior. Probably a year from now,
we're gonna be one of the most exciting young offenses

(10:29):
in the league. And you kind of pointed to it
right there. I thought the whole point of moving on
from Mike Tomlin was you were trying to go in
a different direction. But if you're just gonna bring the
band back together, Mike Tomlin's a better coach than Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
I genuinely don't get it. Now.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
From a Pittsburgh fan perspective, I guess you know Michael
Pittman's there now you finally have a legit number two
option behind DK Metcalf. We'll see the offense should be better,
the defense is all He's pretty good in Pittsburgh, so
you're kind of looking at the same thing. You always
are a nine to ten, maybe eleven win team.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
Always pretty good under Mike Tomblin, under Mike under Mike McCarthy.
That's a big change.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
And I'll tell you who put this puts a lot
of pressure on the Cincinnati Bengals because if you're the
CINCNATI Bengals, I fully expect the Ravens to win that
division with all the talent they have coming back, Kyle Hamilton,
lamar fully healthy. I love what they did, adding Trey
Hendrickson getting the guard out of Penn State. If you're
the CINCINNTI Bengals, you have had two seasons marred by injuries.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Now and a lack of a defense.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
If you let the Pittsburgh Steelers with Rogers, who will
be competent.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Do I think they're gonna win a Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (11:39):
No, but they will be a competent football team and
will win a lot of games.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
If they beat you.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Out for a wild card spot, I would not be
surprised if Joe Burrows on his way out of town.
All right, what's next, very very quickly, all right, let's
go to uh, let's stick with the NFL. Drake May
calls Mike Rabel a quote, a great human being.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Man.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Have you seen the stuff coming out to the.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Oh my video?

Speaker 4 (12:02):
We have video, And he also says he's not worried
about the distractions that have happened in the offseason program.
Greater question as a whole. Are the Patriots one of
the favorites in the AFC next year?

Speaker 1 (12:15):
No, because I think their schedule is gonna be a
lot tougher. I don't think they're that good. They got
real lucky last year with the AFC being down, with
all the injuries around them, like Josh Allen broken ankle,
bo Nicks bro or Josh Allen had broken foot, bo
Nicks had a broken ankle, like the Patriots just kind
of walked into the Super Bowl this year and then
got their asses handed do them by the Seahawks. To
the other part, the Drake May part, he did the

(12:36):
right thing at the podium. Anything else would have been
a big, big story. It would have been back. Can
I say this about the Mike Rabel thing, because now
TMZ's doing the digging. I don't know if there's some
private informant that maybe Diana Russini's husband hired six years ago.
That's the alleged rumors who has been filming Mike Rabel
and Diana Russini every day for the last six years,
or every time they meet up. What I will say

(12:57):
is this, as an NFL locker room, do you really
think they care like Mike Rabel By all aspects, it
seems like he's been an excellent head coach his entire career.
It was kind of odd actually, when the Tennessee Titans
were like, yeah, we're done with this Mike Rabel era.
Maybe this is.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Part of it.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Who knows, But now Mike Rabel is the head coach
of the New England Patriots. This is like the sixth
biggest scandal that's ever rocked the New England Patriots. Honestly,
I feel terrible for the families. This is a meme now,
which yes, they're very funny online and all the pictures
that you guys have been dming me I'm talking to you,
Patrick Allen are very funny about the Diana Racidi Mike
Rabel thing. This is an NFL locker room. Can you

(13:33):
throw a rock in an NFL locker room without finding
at least one cheater? The answers probably know, and that's allegedly.
That is me assuming a lot of different things.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Well, I don't know that they care about.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
The situation exactly. I think what they should care about
is the fact that everyone's passing them. I think that
Patriots think that they're gonna walk back in here because
they went to the Super Bowl. Let's look at this
road to the Super Bowl bone. Patriots suck this year.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
It's gonna have nothing to do with Mike Rabel and
Diana Rusini.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
That but they've done nothing in the offseason, like Dave
let Stefan digs go. You signed Romeo Dobbs to an
inflated contract. Yes, you're expected to get Aj Brown here
in a month. How's that gonna go? I mean Aj
Brown ran his mouth popped off to Jalen Hurts. Jalen
Hurts is a damn Super Bowl MVP and it has
been to two and played great in both games. What
is what the hell is gonna happen when Drake May

(14:21):
is not giving him the ball enough?

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Do you see the new video of Diana receiding Mike
Rabel walking down the boat dock together while she was
pregnant with her son who's now named Michael. Yeah, did
you see the TMZ report that they rented a boat
and they were only two on the boat while she
was pregnant with a son who's now named Michael. Like,
I'm dead. This is drama, dude distractions. You want reality
TV and you're a dude. NFL stick around. It's a
lot of fun. It is kind of crazy though, the meat. Like,

(14:44):
I do feel terrible for the two families and now
we're part of it. So thanks a lot, Sammy. NBA playoffs.
On the other side, that was gonna be Big three,
number three, right, we got some injuries popping up in
that Knick series Lakers Game two coming up tonight. We'll
just do a whole conversation on it. Coming up, Jay
So said the love boat. Du it is the love boat?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Into the boat?

Speaker 1 (15:01):
She was like visibly pregnant. Yes, it is crazy.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
I wonder why they're going to on the boat.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Like, I get it. My wife watches Bravo every night. Man,
this should be its own.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
This is real. Bravo's fake.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Some of it's fake. In San Diego Sports seven sixty
NBA Playoffs next live on my Heart radio app go
to fill up the truck at the gas Station's like,
you just see your paycheck disappearing these days, So a
thousand bucks would do a lot of help. So keep
listening for that keyword.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
No, it's bad when you when your arm gets tired
from you know, sitting there.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Sammy, Just depending on how much gas costs, doesn't take
any longer. It's a pump a gas tank. It's the
same amount of liquid going. Is that the case, Yes,
it doesn't take longer to pump gas when it's more expensive.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Maybe I just last time I ran it down farther. Also,
do you.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Who's holding the gas pump anymore? They have the little
latches they do it for you.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Oh no, you gotta get a little arm work out.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Sometimes the things you say, man, are kind of crazy.
It's it doesn't take longer when it's more expensive. The
gas still flows at the same rate. It's just the
money goes up faster.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Heay, I think in my head it flows slower. I'm
sitting there watching my entire paycheck disappear, thinking about how
I can't eat dinner tonight.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
So it slow.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
If you'd like to win a thousand dollars, just keep
listening to San Diego Sports seven sixty. Get that keyword
and take it over to SPORTSSD dot com. All right, well,
we'll talk about this a little bit later on, but
I just got the official official text that the men's
and women's NCAA basketball brackets will expand from sixty eight
to seventy six teams beginning next year. The vote was
earlier today, it is officially official as of right now.

(16:44):
We can react to that in a little bit. But
Game two Lakers, okay, see coming up tonight. Still know Luca, right, Nope, no, no, Luca.
We'll see. The spread's huge in this one too.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
And a half.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Yeah, I mean it's we'll see if Sammy wants to
put anything down on that again. But okay, see, it
feels like this is another win the Lakers. They probably
need it if they want Luca back in this series.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
They well, the series is probably done, but if they
have any chance even send, they have to win tonight.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
So you will hear that game coming up on San
Diego Sports seven sixty. But I think the bigger news
of the day. Is Ogi Annanobi, who's maybe been one
of the better players in this entire postseason, is going
to be missing some time, Sammy.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
I think that's a problem for the Knicks.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
In how about that game last night, I mean, the
Sixers are better without Joel Embiid, like when they actually play.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
I mean, I don't know about that. Joel Embiid single
landedly got them a win in the previous series.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
But it is, like.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Colin Coward said this earlier, the last three games is
a microcosm of Joel Ebiat's career. Unbelievable in Game seven,
gets the win, terrible in game win against the Knicks,
doesn't play in game two. I mean, this is this
is like his thing. If you're Philly, you have to
be so frustrated with the fact that you can never
rely on this guy. And last night the offense they went,

(17:57):
they went. They held the Knicks to nineteen points in
the fourth quarter, they went four to nineteen from the field.
They probably should have won the game. They just went
ice cold down the stretch. Tyrese Maxy edge comb But
you do I don't know if this series changes. I
do think Philly gets a couple of games in Philadelphia,
but Nick's probably win the series.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Knicks are up to well already. I would say that
Seri is probably.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Done, but ogn Andobi not being there, that's a huge loss.
It's been the second leading scorer for the Knicks so
far in the postseason, and that's a three and D
wing defender that the Knicks I don't think as the
offense to go up against an Okac or a team
like that, but they do have excellent defenders with Michale Bridges, Ognobi.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Josh Hart like, they got a lot of guys.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
They're kind of built like Okac, just without the lack
of offense coming off the bench. If Anonoby's out, I
think that the winner that that Pistons Cavs series could
really do some damage because that's that's a really big
loss for them.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
It's a hamstring thing, so it's similar to Luca's injury.
We'll we'll see how long he's gonna be out. But
that is a problem. Like Jaylen Brunson catches all the headlines,
I'm the worker on the team is Anonobe. I'm curious
to see how.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Let's Brunson just focus on the offense right now.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Spurs beat the crap out of the Tea Wolves last night.
If there's some gibber jabbering going on in that series, man,
and I'm loving it. I'm here for it. I actually
do think this is gonna be a series. It's one
one right now.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
I don't read too much into last night.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
Spurs kicked the crap out of them last night, but
you're thinking about it. Te Wolves already got one on
the road, right and so they maybe this was a
little bit of a scheduled loss for them last night.
Curious to see how that looks when it goes back
to Minnesota. All right, quick break here. Derek Toguson on
the other side, Look, we're happy with where the Padres
are at right now. Record's great, seven games over five hundred.
I think at this point in the season you'd sign

(19:36):
up for that any day of the week. Fernando Tazzis
junior not hitting home runs. The man with the answer
of why is on the other side. It's San Diego
Sports seven sixty. You're listening live on iHeartRadio. Acta Sabith
can make a million dollars in a week. You could
pull at least fifty bucks.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
Why do you think I played sexual Healing by Marvin Gay.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Look, I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought
about it.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
My truck is a thirty gallon tank. When gas prices
are like six.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Twenty, you thought about doing some olyfans, Gee.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
I haven't done it yet.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
You just have picks.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Guy, I haven't pulled the trigger yet thinking about it still.
Maybe our next guest has some ideas on that. Derek
Togason of NBC seven. I think Derek Toguson drives a
truck as well. It hasn't been fun lately, but Derek,
you could win a thousand bucks if you listen for
the keyword then entered at SPORTSSD dot com or you
can open an OnlyFans account. What do you think about that?

Speaker 6 (20:21):
What the hell conversations you guys pull me into it? Well,
I wasn't aware that I was. Yeah, goes hey man,
Rick dawksin Potter is yeah, sure, come on, and we're
talking about only fans Harry's feet. I'm like, yeah, Derek, No.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
I always like to say there's a shoe for every foot,
and uh, someone out there would probably pay a little
bit of money for Sammy's Harry hobby hobbits feet.

Speaker 6 (20:44):
And that person is Rex Ryan, and we all know that.
How about this, I don't even have social media. I
don't like I don't take pictures of myself. I yes, no, no,
god no never no.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
The miss business opportunity, Derek.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
That's yeah. But I also have integrity, so I'm gonna stick.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
With that integrity. Who needs it. It's twenty twenty six, man,
No one has that anymore. All right, Derek Tigerson, we've
been seazing you up. We've actually been giving you a
lot of credit. I don't know if it was due
or not, but I said. The man who knows what's
wrong with Fernando Tatis junior swing, why he's not hitting
home runs in twenty twenty six, is named Derek Togerson,
and he's gonna explain it to you all, starting right now.

Speaker 6 (21:26):
It's attack angle. There you go. Okay, so listen, I'm
watching Toddy swing the bat, and his swing looks more
flat to me than it normally has been somehowers. That's
the eyeball test. Let's see if we can marry some
numbers with the eyeball test. I'm sure enough, thanks to
our friends at Baseball Savan, the attack angle of his
swing is incredibly flat. All right, let me give you

(21:47):
an example. His career average is about twelve degrees. That
means it's coming slightly up as it's coming through the
hitting zone. All right. I took a look at one
of the three best power hitters in baseball right now,
Kyle Schwarber Aaron j Both fourteen degrees show Heyo Tani
thirteen degrees. Todd's usually at twelve when he's hitting the ball. Well,
it was about thirteen when he had that forty two

(22:09):
home run season back in twenty twenty one. This year
six degrees, so he has cut his attack angle literally
in half, and it is very difficult for him to
get loft on the baseball. How many times have we
seen in a line drive one hundred and seven miles
an hour off the bat die at, you know, fifteen
feet in front of the fence because it just doesn't

(22:29):
have enough loft to carry over hitting the ball hards
not the problem. Getting loft on the ball as a problem.
That's why he's not hit. I don't know. I don't
know how or why or when his bash flattened out,
or this is a progressive thing or something he worked
on in the off season. He doesn't really like to
talk about it. So yeah, I mean for me, it's
a pretty simple fix. You get more loft in the swing.

(22:51):
You maybe start just a slight little uppercut to lift
the baseball a little bit, like Ted Williams said back
in the Science of Hitting all those years ago, and
now you're gonna be able to hit the ball over
the fence. It should be a simple fix. I don't
know why no one else has picked up on this.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
Flush were talking earlier about we kind of both gave
Craig Salmon high marks for changing up the lineup, moving
Tati's down the batting order, giving some guys some days off,
just trying new things. In your assessment, what would you
what do you think of Craig Salm in a month
and a half in.

Speaker 6 (23:22):
I think early on it was a little bit dicey,
and he has learned really fast. I mean, he's learned
really fast. He's impressed the hell out of me. So
I love what Damn is doing. He's obviously got the
ear of the clubhouse. He's using guys in the proper way.
He's getting getting guy's day off. He's riding the hot
hand And what's great about I mean, he won me

(23:44):
over when he moved Toddy down to the five spot,
because that tells everybody in that lineup you're going to
have to earn your way up in this batting order.
We're not going to just put you there because we
think you can do it. If you're not doing it,
you're not going to do it. Put Ramon Loriano in
the leadoff spot. He went in wasp Bam, Jackson Merrill
in the leadoff spot. Like he's very sending a very
clear message that you need to is a production based business.

(24:06):
If you don't produce, then you're not going to get
as many at bat as you might think you deserve it.
You're going to have to deal with that. So yeah, Craig,
Craig has been really, really good so far.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Derek Tugerson, NBC seven joining us today here on San
Diego Sports seven sixty Togs. I feel like you just
want to fixed Tatis. How do you fix Manny Machado
because he's bunting yesterday, which I get it, like the
third basement was deep, but you're Manny Machado, Why are
you ever bunting the baseball? What do you think has
gone on with Manny, who's hidden in the two hundreds.
I feel like he's going to get to his career numbers,

(24:35):
but right now something seems a little off.

Speaker 6 (24:38):
Well, the thing about Many bunting is he ain't fast right. Well,
the strategy you might, you know, in a vacuum is oh,
the third basein was back. Yeah, but he's still faster
the baseball than you are down the line. So I
don't know. I don't know what he was thinking there.
I don't know. With Many again, he's one of those
guys that we've seen slump early and then when you

(25:00):
even comes around the weather warms up, he goes on
a two month heater. So I think he's probably earned
the benefit of the doubt that at some point we
started to see it down in Mexico City, and he
carried that into the first couple of games at Peco Park,
and bam, he's got the calf issue. Uh So maybe
he's a little hampered by that. But if he's hampered
by the calf, why the hell are you trying to
lay out a bunch? So obviously I mean by that

(25:20):
he's telling us that the calf is fine. So with him,
I don't know, but I've to stop trying to figure
out Manny. We all we try to do is help him,
and he just wants to be combative. So if he's
he's just gonna do things his own way because he
thinks he knows bear anybody else, fine prove it. But
at this point, I he's got his way and he's
stuck in it, and come hill or high water, he's
gonna do whatever he thinks is going to be best.

(25:41):
And through the first you know, decade plus of his career,
he's been right. So I think we just have to,
you know, ride this out a little bit more. But
I think he's another prime candidate too. Hey guess what
you're hitting six? Deal with it.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
A lot of the national puns when they kind of
talk about the Potters have kind of, I don't know,
poort cold water on him a little, but in the
sense of that they haven't beaten a lot of great
teams so far this year. Do you subscribe to that
or do you think it's kind of an overplayed narrative
a month and a half in.

Speaker 6 (26:08):
They've beaten a lot of great pitchers early in the
year that they that's got something to do with it.
They've beaten a lot of a lot of really really
good pictures. So maybe the teams themselves aren't that great,
but they are scoring runs against pretty good pitchers. And
isn't the thing about like like Indiana is supposed to
beat Northwestern and that's how you win championships. So the

(26:29):
Podters are doing what they're supposed to be doing in
except for the White Sox for some inexplicable reason, and
beating good team, beating teams are supposed to beat, and
they're being competitive with the other teams. You know, they're
the ones that finally beat the Cubs and you know,
because of the hottest team in baseball, and they were
in the other two games against them. So yeah, they're
they're playing well against really good teams even though they

(26:50):
still have all these injury issues and they haven't had
their stars get hot, and they've beaten the teams that
they have had to beat or they should be beating.
So I see no problem here. That's a national pundits
just not wanting to admit that they were wrong. And
the Podres are better than this off.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
They were all right, So that's some good Padres insight.
I know, we got to get you out of here
pretty soon. So I want to get your thoughts on this.
You're a big college basketball guy. I'm a big college
basketball guy. NCAA tournament officially expanding to seventy six teams.
They're going to expand expand the play in so instead
of the first four, it's going to be the first twelve.
Your initial thoughts on this, whether it's going to be
a disaster or going to be great for the sport.

Speaker 6 (27:27):
I think it's great. And where all the consternation comes from.
I know. The first thing that you know, the dummies
like you know, a mad dog, whatever the hell's name is, Like,
they say they can't win a national championship. Guess what,
sparky fifteen teams win the national championship anyway. So sixty
four sixty eight is way too many in the first place,
that's not what this is about. It's not about finding
more national championship caliber teams. It's about getting more eyes

(27:50):
on the sport. And oh, by the way, all these teams,
these other eight teams are going to get in. They
are going to get NCAA tournament shares down, and that
is going to help those programs. Now, you might get
two from the Big West. You know you might get
you see your mind, and you see San Diego gets
to take another trip there, and that would be huge
for that program. Where are you going to get? If
San Diego State played Oklahoma in the regular season, it'd

(28:13):
be a pretty big deal, right well, if they played
them in the institoly tournaments, it becomes an even bigger deal.
And those are the first two teams out from last tournament.
So you can't tell me they getting more eyes on
the sport and the NCAA is sharing more of the
money they've been making handover fist for god knows how
many years and giving it to the programs, especially in
the nil era, with these shares is a bad thing.

(28:35):
I refuse to accept that.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
I do wonder if part of this the expansion is
the fact that the NIIT really isn't what the NIIT was,
and so there's more teams out there who are competitive
who should probably have a postseason home.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
I'm curious about this. I haven't made a decision yet
whether I like it or not. Derek, I don't know,
if you can tell I'm somewhere in the middle right now.
I'm more okay with it now than I was two
weeks ago.

Speaker 6 (28:58):
Even more than who wins it? What do we remember
the Cinderella, right, we remember get Zaga making a run
before they were anything we remember, which is Toastate. We
remember uh, Loyola Chicago, we remember it off that list. Yeah,
we remember. We remember these teams. We remember them more
than who won the national championships that year. So you're

(29:18):
gonna tell me you're gonna have more chances for Cinderella's
to happen and that's a bad thing. Okay, Well then
you're an idiot.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
All right, tog Z, We got to get you out
of here. But what do you have coming up on NBC?

Speaker 6 (29:30):
Oh, we're gonna be live at Pecko Park tonight. Baby.
We got the Cardinals the very much better than people
thought they were. Cardinals coming to town. Yeah, I'm more
gonna do a little stuff talking about SDFC trying to
figure out if they can, you know, get off this
winless streak that they're on going up to Seattle. So yeah,
we got. We have the Seals in the playoffs again,
going to possibly going to the finals. Yeah we got.

(29:50):
We got a lot of stuff going on over here.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
SDFC just keeping San Diegan's in San Diego. Jacob Jackson
guaranteed through the twenty twenty sixth season, the goalie for
Jacob jack Good for SDFC. All right, talk to you later.
Derek Tugerson NBC seven. Always appreciate his time, loved his
thoughts on Fernando Tatis Junior. And I also my favorite
part of that whole interview we just did with Derek

(30:12):
Tugerson was him talking about Manny Machado, because it's the
same thing we all feel about Manny Machado. It's just like,
he'll probably figure it out. I'm done trying to analyze
this game. It'll probably hit two seventy five with twenty
five home runs, and we'll see how long it takes
me to get there.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
Right, many, Minchado is the prime be's tough, the prime
example of how baseball's most mental sport. Yeah, because when
Machado's on and he's kind of playing with that swag
that we know Machado can, he's unbelievable. And then there's
times where you watch him play at the play and
he literally looks like he can't hit a baseball. It
really is kind of hard. To figure out. I don't
know why did it? Like, it's odd that every year

(30:52):
there's these massive swamps, I mean every single season, having
the same conversation, Manny's on a heater, many can't hit
a baseball. It just feels like he ends up getting
his number. But at some point he's getting up there
in age. Played a lot of mob seasons. You do that,
the slumps start becoming a little bit more concerning because
he's not you know, he's not twenty five anymore.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
Where he's gonna figure it out. Some of these texts
coming in, we're hilarious. During Togerson's interview, A five eight
less steroids, slower bat speed, flatten the angle. It's simple.
That's why Tatsis isn't hitting A five eight also said
it oddly happened right when his training buddy go far
Profar got popped for Royds.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Seven to six.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Oh, says, I can explain why the Potteries didn't beat
the fing White Sox because I got a bunch of
I spent a bunch of money to go to one
of those games.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
You're the curse seven to six. Oh, this is your fault.
It is your fault, all right, speaking of your fault.
Sammy's long shots did not win last night. We missed
by like points, by four points points like it's crazy.
Vegas is in Sammy's head. I think that's what's going on.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
I'm literally giving out hockey walks left and right in
the Knicks and Sixers. The Sixers want to go four
to nineteen the fourth quarter. I don't like we need
a couple of those shots fall. And we're all sitting
here eating good today.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
At what point am I in charge of long shots
for a day.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
You've missed every time you've even added a pick.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
At what point am I in charge of long shots?

Speaker 4 (32:10):
I go two to three every time? You can't even
go one for one when you've added on.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Remember is really great member shoes when you get really close.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Remember remember when your big Gen Ram, Let's all put
put the bank account John Ram, He's gonna win the Masters.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
It's okay. The only two bets of the matter are
Rock Party, MVP, Niner super Bowl this year. That's gonna
make me rich in San Diego Sports seven sixty. Let's
all get rich off of Sammy's picks. Coming up next
live on iHeartRadio app Little Bit Yeah Joe Laca may
have set the quiet part out loud. That's how we're
opening up our number two if you were curious. But Sammy,
it's time for some long shots now. I can't help
but notice there is tennis on our TV. Yes, you know,

(32:45):
like sometimes there it's stormy weather out on the open season.
You just need to find safe harbor somewhere. Over the years,
tennis has been safe harbor.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
That has been very kind to long shots over the year.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Can we please get some tennis in the lineup today?

Speaker 4 (32:58):
We do have some tennis. And by the way, Rolling
Garrols two weeks away the French Open. Fletch and I
are the champions of Rolling Garrols.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
We just need to make some money some way, somehow,
So maybe tennis is the answer. Tennis is our safe
harbor on a dark and stormy night deep out in
the oceans of San Diego where apparently there's a ton
of sharks swimming around. Right now, Sammy, smash.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
You looking for some luck, want to win big? It
was so money we don't even know any time to
take a chance. Say that to me and his money
with long shots?

Speaker 1 (33:33):
You see that really there's a bunch of like juvenile
great white sharks swimming around del Mar and La Joya right.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Now, twice better just sit on the sand.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
They're like the teenage sharks who are still growing so
they're eating all the time, so they don't care what
they're eating. They're just looking for meat. We are meat, Sammy,
are you big?

Speaker 2 (33:48):
You big?

Speaker 4 (33:49):
Go to the beach and getting guy, or you would
sit there drink some beer on the beach.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
If I go to the beach, I am getting in
the ocean. The problem is, ever since I moved to
East County, I really don't ever go to the beach anymore,
which hurts. If I'm being honest. I used to during COVID. Dude,
I went to Cornado pretty much every single day because
they was parking wide open, you could get on the
beach whenever. I went almost every single day during COVID,

(34:12):
and now I haven't been in like six months.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
Oh, talk about with my friend. It's like, it's funny
living in San Diego. How people were like, oh, you
must go to the beach all the time. Like I
go to the beach a decent amount, but because you
live here, you kind of go, oh, let's catch you
next week.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Well, it's also where you like. San Diego's freaking massive.
Like Ornberger lives in Pacific Beach, he goes to the beach. Oh,
you'd be there like every two or three times a week.
I live in La Mesa, which is still like a
fifteen minute drive to the beach, and I never go.
It sucks, honestly, But Sammy, where are we going? Long shots?

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Can't lean this up to you. Do you want a
three or a four legger?

Speaker 1 (34:45):
If it's tennis?

Speaker 6 (34:46):
Four?

Speaker 4 (34:46):
Okay, we have a tennis pick, a hockey pick, and
two NBA picks.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
We're starting with tennis.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Why don't we do this all right? One of each
pick your favorite NBA pick.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
We'll go three.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
We need a winner. My NBA picture locks.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
Yeah, NBA are locked, So I think I think giving
us to getting us one NBA.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
No Lakers pick. They're out of the equation. No, they're
out of the equation.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
No.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
All right, then me and all our listeners are gonna
not do the Lakers pick.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
You can veto one the Lakers pick.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
I'll veto it before it even happens.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
You don't even know. First off, you know what, I
ain't got time for you right now? Okay, we are
going to Rome. Okay, the atp Rome. I know everyone
is locked in in San Diego Tennis channel late at night,
very relaxing way to wind down.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Sable linka on the TV right now.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
Aren't you number one tennis player in the world putting
some work in? Number one up a set anyway, Novak Djokovic,
do you know put Azeemik the Croatian taking on at
five ten in the morning. Guys, you will work out
in make sure you're locked in some tennis because we
know my NBA picks and AHL picks are gonna cash tonight.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
This is gonna be the last leg of it. All right.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Here's what I like. I like Djokovic in three sets.
You can find us on Calci Djokovish to win two
one is plus one seventy three right now. Okay, he's
the favorite in this match, He's almost a two to
one favorite. But we get him dropping a set, it's
plus one seventy three. Here's the thing, Djokovic hasn't played
Sin Sydney and Wells Indian Well has been about a
month two months ago. He's prepping up, trying to find

(36:13):
that twenty fifth elusive major that would really put him
you know he's in the upper Chelonta tennis players of
all time, but would really put him to another level
all in all the greats. This might be his best
opportunity to do it. At Rolling Garrols. Carlos al Karaz
is not playing. He is injured, so he's out at
Rolling Garrols. He beat Janick Center in the last major,
so you feel like there's a real opportunity for Jokovic.

(36:35):
But in this matchup, Dino Prasimik, number seventy nine player
in the world, has had a couple wins recently Matteo Berdatini,
who's a good player. Ben Shelton, the American who has
really been rising up the ranks the last couple of years.
These two have played before at the Australian Open and
Djokovic won it in four sets. Persimik kind of made
his hay pushing Djokovic a little bit. Djokovic has not

(36:57):
played against Indian wells, a lot of trying to real
get back for Roland Garrels. I think he wins this,
but he wins it in three sets plus one seventy
three on Calshi locked that in all right Cleveland in Detroit,
gimme Cleveland plus three and a half. Gimme Cleveland plus
three and a half in this game. Look, in the
first game they lost by ten. Detroit punked him. And
that's been the concern with this Cleveland Cavaliers team is

(37:19):
they're not tough like they have all the finesse players
in the world, Max Sruz, Donovan Mitchell, and James Harden.
There's a lot of pressure on these guys because James
Harden has been labeled to playoff choke guards over the years.
His stats over the years and the playoffs have really
been really been frankly terrible, and Donovan Mitchell has not
really won either. In that game one, Mitchell had twenty

(37:39):
three points, shot nine to nineteen from the field. James
Harden shot six to fifteen from the field, one to
seven from three. I don't expect that to happen again.
Shrus did have nineteen off the bench, but Jared Allen
only took four shots. He's got to be a much
bigger factor tonight. I think they need this game. Evan
Mobley only had fourteen points. I think the front court
is a little bit more of a fact or against

(38:00):
durn and Isaiah Stewart because they saw him in Game one.
They need this game. I believe they get it tonight.
Plus three and a half. Give me the Cavs. All right,
let's go to the Lakers in thunder over. This number
is moving up right now, but I like the over
to twelve and a half. It started at two ten
and a half. Look, Shaye, it was held to under
twenty points and the Lakers still lost. I expect Shay

(38:21):
to have a much bigger performance. I expect jj Reck
to have to come with something different then. Besides the
double team, Jared Vanderbilt is doubtful for the Lakers. That's
one of their prime defenders who will not be playing.
I also don't believe Austin Reeves in this game too,
will have as bad of a showing. Three to sixteen
from the field was frankly abysmal, and there's a lot
of pressure on him. He's got a contract he's got

(38:42):
to earn the offseason. I do think this is a
much higher scoring game. I think Oklahoma City gets it
together earlier on after they've seen the Lakers front wave.
And I just believe Marcus dmart had a bad game one.
Austin Reeves had a bad Game one. There's a lot
of opportunity for growth here, especially when we're talking about
points from the Lakers starters. I believe that they go
over to twelve and a half. Do you want a

(39:04):
hockey pick?

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Didna give it to us quickly?

Speaker 2 (39:06):
All right?

Speaker 4 (39:07):
I like the under five and a half in the
Flyers and Hurricanes. Flyers have been on the downturn ever
since they you know, kind of slid past the Pittsburgh
Penguins after going up three to zero in that series.
Anderson is one of the best goalies, and Dan Flodar
as well. For the Flyers. They've been the best one
to two goalies in the entire playoff. Trevor Zegris and

(39:27):
Travis Kanecky have not been playing well for Philadelphia. You
do feel like this is their last stand, getting the
game at home in Game three. I like the under
five and a half total goals in the NHL tonight.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
That's a little ten extra cash right there. That's what
I just put in. Good work, Sammy. We'll see if
it works out. Hopefully we start a new streak come tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (39:45):
All right.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
It is San Diego Sports seven sixty, and I said,
let's get rich off of Sammy's picks. I did not
mean his feet picks that he's gonna start posting online.
I meant his sports picks that he just gave you.
It is San Diego Sports seven sixty hour two. We
got coach Kintara jumping on the show. Plus Joe l
the owner of the Warriors, may have said the quiet
part out loud when it comes to Major League Baseball.
Let's get to it on the other side, live on

(40:07):
my Heart Radio app.
