Speaker 1 (00:00):
Honey money, Behold the blissful joy of capitalism. This is
the Bloomberg Money Minute on seven hundred WLW.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
All right, we say good morning to John Tucker from
the Bloomberg newsroom in New York, New York. Blockbuster earnings
lifting tech shares big time this morning, John, And there
are a.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Few reasons I'm doing this. The first of which it's
lifting Nasdaq futures higher. Intel most active in the pre
market trading, the suckers up twenty eight percent, on track
to hit their highest level ever. Chip maker delivering a
sales forecast that shattered Wall Street expectations revenue could top
fourteen point eight billion dollars. Now, the US government, you
(00:46):
will recall, made a pretty significant investment back in August,
and you, as a taxpayer, will gain after agreeing to
buy in a twenty dollars forty seven cents a share
for a total of eight point nine billion dollars. The
US hold it's going to be worth more than thirty
seven billion dollars on paper if these share gains hold. Wow, Yeah,
(01:07):
technically taxpayers tom own about the two hundred and seventy
four point six million shares. The rest remain in an
escrow account. So that's awaiting additional funds from a program
through which the government gets secure chip production for among
other things.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I think John, the first question a lot of people
would ask, why not just use it to pay off
part of the debt. I mean, it barely makes a
tech work. But thirty nine billion, thirty nine billion.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, let me say, I'm just reading through this, like
all of the shares are accounted for an Intel's balance
sheet for the because of the rules the SEC.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Is yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I'm sure there are rules about how you can sell it,
how soon you can sell it, all that kind of.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Thing, right, But you're benefiting. That's the bunnible. That's right,
that's right, well or not.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
So with that in mind, I would imagine the futures
at least on the NASDACSI looking pretty good.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
The tech heavy NUANCEDAK futures right now op three hundred
and fifty five points this morning. I gonna say that's
good for another record if it holds. SAD futures right
now they're up thirty and the down futures they are
three points higher. And for Bloomberg, I'm John Tucker News
Radio seven hundred WLW.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
ALL right, mercy, mercy me, how about that return on
investment for the United States of America?
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Goodness, gracious.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Critic, columnist, TV Insider, and a TV guide magazine. We're
fortunate to have Matt Rausch with us each and every week,
or until the end of today, not for the next
two weeks.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
I hope you're going on vacation.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Yes, yeah, I'll be away for a little bit, but
there's TV never stops, so I will try to keep.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
A handle on it while I'm away.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
But still, yeah, it may is always a busy month
with the network season's winding down, but streaming just continues
to pour product into the pipeline. So yeah, it's a
good time to be a TV watcher, all right.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
I have had more and more people tell me and
I've never watched the show. But I'm getting ready to
have hip replacement surgery on Monday, so I got a
lot of time to watch a lot of TV.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
I've never watched Stranger Things. Now.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
A lot of us thought that this hit horror franchise
on Netflix was done, but now four months after the
show's official send off, it's coming back in animated form
for kids.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Is that right?
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Well, yeah, I mean kids than anybody can watch it. Yeah,
but it has a bit more of a juvenile tone
to it, and when you're watching a horror show in animation,
it just isn't quite as scary as when you see
the monsters chasing actual kids, which is what the thing
that The Stranger Things was all about.
Speaker 6 (03:51):
It was set in the eighties, and it was.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
A show said in a small town called Hawkins, Indiana,
where there was a secret lab underground, and then it
was a portal to a place called the under the
upside down, an underworld where these monsters would come up
into the into the real world and these kids who
are these intrepid little kids on bikes. It had a
sort of a Spielberg tone to it. And but yeah,
but it finished its run around Christmas time and New
(04:17):
Year's I think the final epots so dropped on New
Year's Eve. But now they've got a show called Stranger
Things tales from eighty five Netflix. Knowing that you can't
let anything die. Like Squid Game keeps coming back, so
does Stranger Things. And there'll be other spin offs said
in that universe, but this one winds the clock back
a couple of years to like around the third season
or so, and so the kids are still really kids.
(04:40):
And then there's it's said in the winter time, and
there's monsters lurking under the snow, and then the trees
and and it is that kind of a show, but
it's sort of fun. But at the same time, this
is the way that TV, including streaming works. If you
get a hit franchise, eventually the series is over, but
they always find ways.
Speaker 6 (04:55):
To spin it off or reboot or something like that.
And here is and here is Netflix playing game.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
But if you were a fan of Stranger Things, you
might want to check out the animated version.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Okay, season two also on nutflike an entertaining sports comedy.
Running Point, Tell me about this show, and tell me
about what happened basically in season one and what to
look for from season two.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
A lot of big names in a thing.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Yeah it is, And yeah, this would be a good
one to watch while you're while you're recovering, I would think,
because it's a it's a nice light show. But Running
Point in the first season starring Kate Hudson, who was
a recent Oscar nominee for that Neil Diamond movie that
Kate Hudson plays a member of a family that owns
an NBA team, and in the first season she took
it over when her brother went into rehab and he's
not as good a guy as she is, and and
(05:39):
and so, so she took over the team, and there's
all the ups and downs of all of that, kind
of reflecting the world of the.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
La Lakers's called the l A the La Waves, so.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
It's a fictional team and then the But in the
second season, her brother gets out of rehab and he
starts scheming to take it out of her hands. She's
not going to have any of that.
Speaker 6 (05:56):
She's got other personal issues going on.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
But it's also about the professional upside ups and downs
of this fictional team. And in the new season, she
brings on a new coach played by Ray Romano, who
is so good and everything he does, I mean he
learned how to act doing Everybody loves Raymond and he's
had such a versatile career after World Afterward, So yeah,
I think if you're a fan of just a good
ensemble comedy. But her family is kind of dysfunctional and
(06:21):
she's the one that's trying to hold it all together,
and I think it's just a fun show. So every
one in a while you just want to have a
good time watching some TV and I have it be
too dark. And Running Point was a success in the
first season and they just dropped the second season.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
This is one of those shows.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
And you know, Netflix drops all the episodes at once
of so many of their shows. But a show like this,
I like to like parcel it out, maybe like two
episodes every few days, and that I can live with
it for a while because once you're through all the episodes,
it's going to take at least another year before the
episodes show up again. So play that one out. That's
my recommendation. If you were a fan of Running Point,
play those episodes out and savored them all you can.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Okay, now you talked about on the white side, and
then there's the dark side right already getting Emmy buzz.
HBO has launched a new series from the creator of
the Emmy winning Baby Reindeer, major hit for Netflix two
years ago. But this is called Half Man. Just reading
sort of the synopsis on this, this seems like this
(07:21):
thing could get pretty dark.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
But it's a good show.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
It's very intense, but yeah, it's very well done. You've
got two terrific actors here. Richard Gadd was the star
and the creator of Baby Reindeer. Played this guy who
was being stalked by this woman and it was just
this weird, weird relationship and now you've got like a buddy.
Not a comedy for sure, but these two.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
Guys they grew up together.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Richard Gadd playing opposite Jamie Bell, a British actor who's
been a star ever since the days of Billy Elliott
on Felman, so he's had an amazing career as well.
But these two actors play guys who grew up together.
They're basically soul brothers. They call themselves brothers of another,
mother of another, and so as they grow up in there.
It's a Scottish show, so you might want to put
(08:04):
the subtitles on because the accents are pretty thick. But
Richard Gadd plays a guy called Ruben who is not
a nice guy. He's this fierce, almost like a warrior guy,
but he sort of the protector and the tormentor of
his soul brother Nile.
Speaker 6 (08:20):
And so as Nile and.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
Ruben grow up, the show is framed by the fact
that Nile's getting married and ow of nowhere, Ruben shows
up again.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
As this force of dark nature crashes.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
The wedding, and as you play back thirty years of
their relationship together, these ups and downs, you get a
sense of this sort of self destructive spiral they've been
on all this time. So it's a character study. It's
also a look at like toxic masculinity and sexual insecurity.
These guys have a lot of issues here, but it's
also a really interesting psychological drama. If you like Baby Reindeer,
(08:51):
it probably made you cringe. This one's going to make
you squirm. But it is HBO doing sort of the
really I think prestige drama here. Only six episodes plays
out on Thursdays. It's going to get some noise. Certainly
Baby Reindeer did that's one of those things that came
out of nowhere on Netflix. You never know with that network.
And now HBO's kind of bought in on the Richard
gaddib at all and.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
We'll see how it plays out.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
But yeah, it is definitely disturbing, but also if you're
heard of that kind of drama, quite riveting.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Okay, want to hit a couple of more, and we
got about three and a half minutes here, if you're
looking for action escapism. Netflix again is going to launch
a new thriller today called Apex. I. Remember now you're
saying you could liken this in some ways to the
movie years ago with Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon, The
River Wild kind of similar to that, right, yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Kind of, because it's got this sort of guy, the psychopath,
sort of stalking somebody through through nature. And this was
filmed in New South Wales and Australia, so the scenery
is amazing. But you've got Charlie's there On here who's
playing this woman who goes out in the wilderness by herself.
She's testing herself, going down the rapids, climbing the climbing
the cliffs.
Speaker 6 (09:59):
And all this kind of stuff.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
But what she didn't expect was crossing paths with the
worst kind of human nature. And Taren Egerton, who's a
really up and rising actor, but he plays this complete
psycho who begins stalking and hunting her, and so it
does play out kind of like The River Wild where
she's being terrorized by this mad man.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
But yet she's quite fit. If you've seen Charlie's there.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
On in action, you know what she can probably handle herself,
but can she handle this guy. So it's one of
those cat and mouse games to the death, but again
more like.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
A guilty pleasure.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Like last week they put that movie on Thrash about.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
A shark sharks.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
Being flooded into a town and all that kind of stuff.
So if you're looking just for some escapism, this is
probably your pick for the weekend.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
All right, I'm going to let you pick between these
last two that you think are more worthy of you
discussing Apple TV's For All Mankind or if you missed
it in movie theaters, the Oscar nominated Marty Supreme.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
You pick well, Well, Marty Supreme with Timothy Shallamye was
a big Oscar contender for last year. But it's on
HBO and HBO Max starting today, So if you want
to see Marty Supremus in the theater, there you go.
But the thing I've been telling people to watch is
Apple TV's For All Mankind, which has been on for
five seasons. But I always describe it as like if
it was West Wing in Space or West Wing about NASA.
(11:14):
It's an alternative history where the Russians got to the moon.
First space race never ended. Now they're on Mars, and
there's a labor dispute on Mars that actually reflects our
own fears about AI taking away jobs. All these people
who move to Mars to start this commedy say automation
is going to take it over, and now they've revolted.
They want their fighting for their own independence on Mars.
It's a really fascinating drama. So if you're looking for
(11:35):
something really meaty for all mankind.
Speaker 6 (11:38):
You could watch five seasons of that.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
That is one really good way if you're stuck at home,
I would say Apple TV's one of my favorite streamers,
and for All Mankind's one of my favorite series.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
All Right, my friend, we'll miss you the next couple
of weeks. Take care, have fun, be careful, and we'll
look forward to catching up with you mid May.
Speaker 6 (11:53):
Roughly sounds good, a right.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Always love having Matt Raush He's awesome and give some
great tip And as I talked about, I'm gonna be
out all next week getting the old, and the keyword
being old, getting old hip replacement surgery, Chuck Ingram. When
I heard about hip replacement stuff, I start thinking about
(12:18):
really old dudes, And now all of a sudden, I'm
one of those really old dudes. Man a slap in
the face.
Speaker 6 (12:25):
They're all putting their teeth in and saved.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
To the club. You didn't have to go there. You
didn't have to go there.
Speaker 7 (12:32):
Oh, come on, I know an awful lot of young
folks that are having hips replaced.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Yeah, sure you do.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
I do. Sure.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I have a good friend named Jerry who had it
done years ago. Okay, is he buddies with Tom?
Speaker 6 (12:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yes, I's probably watching that right now. Back in the
sports office. What's going on out there?
Speaker 7 (12:52):
From you see el Traffic Center, you see cancer Center

and clinical trials you won't find anywhere else. Get a

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Money, money, money, money, cash, wealth. Listen to the words
of this financial titan. This is the boom pops. This
whole part of an effort to streamline operations and offset
heavy spending on artificial intelligence. A big tech comp bodies
have been looking for ways to trim their expenses as
they pour billions into data centers and other infrastructure to
(14:05):
meet demand for AI services. Intel delivering a blockbuster sales forecast.
It shattered Wall Street expectations the chip maker benefiting from
the giant buildout of artificial intelligence computing. Their earnings report
shows the need for data center chips to power the
massive AI expansion is limiting demand for Intel's flagship server processors,
(14:27):
and that's giving a lift to Nasdaq futures this morning.
Hondai Motor is aiming to more than double China's contribution
to its global sales. Hondai CEO Jose Munyez tells Bloomberg
his goal is to sell about half a million cars
a year in China by the end of this decade.
To compete with local rivals, Hondai is localizing its products
by partnering with Chinese firms and from Bloomberg. I'm John

Already eight forty three, rolling into your weekend. Let's make
it a great one. Weather's going to great lots going
on in and around town.

Meta platforms and Microsoft planning cuts or announcing buyouts that
could impact his money is twenty three thousand jumps.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Check some news and notes about some things.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Maybe you heard about, maybe it didn't before we get
to Beer Dave in about twelve.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
Minutes from now.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
I don't know about you, but for me, one of
the most polarizing figures in politics is Senator Elizabeth Warren
out of Massachusetts. Now, let me just ask you a
question real quick. Let's present a scenario, and what would
be her reaction. Ninety nine percent of the time you
(15:43):
put a person in front of her. Okay, who has
a tattoo that's a Nazi symbol. Let's start with that.
During his life, he has praised military tactics used by hamas.
In fact, he talked about murdering Israeli soldiers. Now let's
(16:10):
assume that that person for a second was say Donald Trump.
Do you think Elizabeth Warren would refer to this guy
as her kind of man? Now, look, I am all
four second chances, right, the old saying about every saint
(16:31):
has a past and every sinner has a future. So look,
if this guy did something ten years ago, Okay, he's apologized,
wants another chance. This guy's name, by the way, if
you're wondering, is Graham Platner. And naturally he's a Democratic
candidate for Senate in the state of Maine. But Elizabeth Warren,
(16:56):
the hypocrisy is absolutely beyond description.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Okay. A couple of other news and notes.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Did you hear about this story about the soldier in
the US Special Forces He participated in the raid on
the Venezuelan dictator Nicholas Maduro. He is now being charged
with allegedly betting on the operation. The soldier allegedly bet
(17:26):
thirty three thousand dollars on the prediction market platform Polymarket
toward the outcome of the raid. His payday for that
four hundred and nine thousand dollars and allegedly he placed
(17:46):
the bets while partaking in the planning and execution of
the US military operation to capture Maduro. Have you ever
heard anything like that in your life? And then the
story that is going to become a huge story is
this story about the Southern Poverty Law Center. Now, this
(18:11):
was a group that yesterday was announced by the DOJ
it was charged with fraud and money laundry linked to
quote violent extremist groups. Now they're accused of funneling money
to hate groups that it claimed to fight against. And
(18:31):
they got some of their biggest donations for years from
some of the biggest names in Hollywood and beyond, George Clooney,
JP Morgan, former Apple CEO, Tim Cook, naturally George Soros.
Even Chick Filet made a small donation, many of whom
(18:53):
pledged to the organization. And this all began back at
that white supremacist rally in Virginia. And now it turns
out the outlet had some of the donors reportedly, which
of course did not know that the group was shifting
money to one of the individuals involved in organizing the rally,
(19:15):
a white supremacist group. Eight forty seven. We'll talk to
Beard Dave next on seven hundred WLW. But first let's
check the traffic, Chuck. What's happening from the UC Health
Tramphic Center. You see cancer center offers advanced surgical options
for complex liver and pancreas cancers and clinical trouse you
won't find anywhere else. Get a second opinion now called

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Not a washout TEMPERATUREI dropped down to fifty five by tomorrow,

hundred WLW. All right, here we go. Time for Beer
(20:44):
Dave each and every Friday.
Speaker 6 (20:46):
Beer Dave.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
You're in Hayes, Kansas. What's going on there, my friend?
Speaker 8 (20:50):
I'm out here in a beer memorabilia collecting show again,
so out getting a few more treasures for my collection at.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
A boy at a boy. Okay, a few things going on.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
I want to start with Barley Corn's brew House sponsoring
a Chicks on the Run five k race this weekend.
Speaker 8 (21:09):
Yeah, so this is all going to raise money for
breast cancer research and people that are dealing with the
treatments and stuff. So really a nice cause here. And
you haven't been down to Barley Corns there and Wilder,
that's a great little setup.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
This one is interesting because it's National Pretzel Day on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
People may not know that.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
And I guess what Third Eye and Wandering Monsters are
celebrating in a you say, twisted way that a boy Dave.
Speaker 8 (21:40):
Nice, very good, very Yeah, these are Third Eye has
made a pretzel beer for a number of years called
Getting Twisted, which is really a delicious beer. It really
tastes like a salted pretzel. It's really really interesting. And
so if they're Hamilton location, they're going to be doing
all kinds of pretzel them things. And then out there
(22:00):
in Anderson Township Wandering Monsters is going to have a
number of different things going on with a Pretzel Day
and including a barrel aged pretzel beer that they'll be releasing.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
You know, I've always liked the idea of beer tastings
when they have them because you can go in there
and even if you know a lot, or if you
know next to nothing, you can sit there and decide
what it is that you like or maybe don't like.
And they've got a beer tasting going on actually in
the store at Harrison Remke right, correct, Yeah.
Speaker 8 (22:32):
And this is usually it's about a dozen to fourteen
different local breweries set up throughout the store and it's
a way to talk to the representatives from the brewery
and really understand a lot of the different beers. So
before you punt down the ten bucks for the six pack,
you'll get a chance to try it to make sure
it's one that you're gonna like.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
And then soo Terek's got event on Saturday night, especially
for the ladies out there.
Speaker 8 (22:59):
Yeah, they've Bimbledon All Women Comedy Night, so you'll have
a lot of different stand up comedians, all women and
kind of a unique twist from that standpoint to be
able to have a woman's spin on the stand up comedy.
Speaker 6 (23:14):
All right, that's another great place.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Let me ask you this that starts at seven. But
men can go to this thing, right, it's just women comedians.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
Correct, Yeah, it's not limited only the one sex.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Meanwhile, we want to say happy birthday when you hang
around for eleven years. Both Urban Artifact and Baxton Breweries
celebrating eleven years. But you tell me, I mean, I
hear eleven years. I think in any business, that's quite
an accomplishment. Are you seeing more and more of that
in the brewing business.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
If you make it to eleven years, that's that's really good.
I mean, the beer industry has had quite a downturn,
and for Urban Artifact, who specializes mostly in sours, and
then Braxton, who has multiple locations around the area, that's
really been what's been able to help them survive. But
eleven years, that's quite the accomplishment in the industry.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Yeah, it sure is. Okay.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Meanwhile, fifty West Brewing, I assuming this is the one
on Wooster you can meet the Florence Y'all's baseball team.
Speaker 8 (24:21):
Yeah, they make a Florence Yaw's beer every year, and
one of the things they do in conjunction with that
is have a family day where a lot of the
players and the mascots and that will come out and
they'll be out there all around the Wooster Pike location.
The chance to know it says to bring your own myth,
so I'm sure you get some autographs signed and all that,
(24:42):
but really a neat combination there with the Florence Yaws
baseball team.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
And then lastly, if you want to help out the
Montgomery Elementary School PTO, there's an event Sunday by MPH Brewing.
Speaker 8 (24:57):
Yeah, they're doing a drink and donate, so a portion
of each we'll go towards helping the Montgomery Montgomery Elementary
Para Teacher organization. So that goes on Sunday from noon
to four.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
All right, my friend, great having you with us. Safe
travels on your way back from Hayes, Kansas.
Speaker 8 (25:15):
All right, good luck with your surgery next week.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
I appreciate it, Dave, And yeah that I'll be gone
next week and hopefully, you know, good Lord Willing everything
goes a okay. But thanks to Danny Gleeson today for
his outstanding work as our producer.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
I talk about it all the time.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
I mean, there are so many animals out there looking
