Speaker 1 (00:00):
Honey, money, money. Money news is like potato chips.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I can't get enough as long as they're rippled with
This is the Bloomberg Money Minute on seven hundred WLWU.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Right, here's Matt Piper from the Bloomberg newsroom in New
York City. Now, this is a weird story. Apparently the
guy trying to buy eBay says he cannot access his
account after trying to sell some items on there to
help raise the money to buy the place.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
And by the way, Tom, if you haven't seen it,
he was on CNBC earlier this week and the interview
was crazy. Just crable x and see some of the highlights.
It was a weird one. So we're talking about this guy,
Ryan Cohen. So he's the CEO of game Stop, and
he says his Eba account was suspended overnight after he
listened personal items to fund his bid for the online
marketplace eBay. Now, Coen had been raising money on eBay

(00:48):
by selling things like a pair of socks and hats
for like thousands of bucks. So many have wondered though,
how game Stop, with roughly nine billion dollars of cash
can even think about buying eBay at fifty six billion dollars. Now,
Bloomberg cannot immediately verify Cohen's closed account, which to me
is still publicly accessible this morning. So he's saying it's closed.

(01:08):
I was able to click on it. It's open. But maybe
people can't buy things.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Who knows. Okay, all right, we'll see about that. Popeyes
apparently having some troubles these days.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, the chicken is not chickening. It had its worst
quarter in about twenty years to start the year, with
sells down six and a half percent. I know, you
got to get those sandwiches on the menu. Popeye's is
tightening its focus toward its signature bone and chicken, those
popular sandwiches and tenders to support better execution.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Just in January, the chain launched a five dollars faves
menu with four meal bundles. So they're still trying to
ring in the customers. But it's not doing so hot
right now.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Okay, all right. Futures this morning, Matt Piper all up down.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Futures right now up eighty three points, says the p
Futures up by eleven nas. That future is up by
twenty from Bloomberg. Matt Piper on News Radio seven hundred WLW.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
All right, here we go on a Thursday, eight eleven
on Morning show seven hundred wl W. You'll know this
voice soon as you hear it. We have them every Thursday.
Is syndicated on better than two one hundred and seventy
five stations across America, and he's one of our very
own over on fifty five KRC. You and catch him on
Saturdays and Sundays talking about our buddy, Gary Sullivan.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Where are you these days? My man?

Speaker 5 (02:20):
I'm looking outside and it's a gorgeous day. A little chili,
but you know, things are changing. We're kind of going
to get into some hot weather pretty soon.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
I hope, well, we hope.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
And you know, we thought it was going to be
sooner rather than later after the temperatures we had in April,
but things have really cooled off in May.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
But you know, as the temperature starts.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
To heat up, Gary, I would imagine there are a
few things we need to think about inside of our home.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
Oh gosh, yeah, that's a great question too. We talked
a lot about this this weekend. You know, when we transition,
and you're exactly right, man, I thought we were transitioning
in the summertime, like mid March, and somebody told me
slow down, big boy.

Speaker 6 (03:03):
That's why they call.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Them average temperatures. That's true. That's true.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
They also didn't say we'd be either like ten above
or now fifteen below those averages.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Welcome to Sincy.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yep, hey, I got some just.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
Real easy things. But it's things people kind of forget about.
And a couple of little things we can do and
everybody can tackle these projects. One is this, Are you
a big guy uses ceiling fans in your house.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Or yes, yes we are and for a long long
time in Arizona and here.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Okay, Well, ceiling fans go both ways, right, to go
clockwise and counterclockwise, and you can switch that. And the
reason you want to switch it is they should go
counter clockwise, and that should be I'm trying to see
how get this goofed up.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
That should be.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
In the winter times, counterclockwise brings the stream of air up,
hits the ceiling, pushes the.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
Hot air down. So that's the wintertime.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
In the summertime, you want that fan to go clockwise exactly.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
I've why you're here, Garrett, all right, Well.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
You want that fan to go clockwise. You want to
be able to stand under that fan and feel the
breeze blown right down on you. That's where you want
to be now summertime, springtime, whatever. But in the wintertime
it's the other way around. So you know, if you
forget like I just did, whether it's clockwise or counterclockwise.
And I've been getting that screwed up for forty years.

(04:29):
But you can stand right under the fan right now
at your house.

Speaker 6 (04:34):
You should feel the breeze blowing down on you. And
and and if it's not, you can switch the direction
the fan is going.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
There's a little button right on the hub or the
center of the fan, and just move it up and
you'll switch the way the blades are going, and life
will be good.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Okay, Just to make sure we're going to go clockwise this.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Time of year, yes, sir, okay, all right?

Speaker 3 (04:58):
In a way I meant to tell you as part
of the introduction I have had probably in the last
two weeks, I've probably had five, six seven guys walk
up to me and say, hey, every time you have
Sullivan on, I get beat over the head.

Speaker 6 (05:15):
How do you think my life is? Well?

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, but I mean, you know you're bride. She knows
you guys have been together how many years now?

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Fifty?

Speaker 6 (05:22):
What fifty?

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Okay, they've been again to fix she knows the drill
for some other guys out there, right, all of a sudden,
they're like, you know, weekends come around, and you know,
they're like, well, hey, because our our women listenership has
really increased here in this eight o'clock hour. I mean
by like sevenfold, just in the last couple of years. Well,
I mean and not me, but I'm just saying that,

(05:44):
you know, they're listening. And these buddies of mine are
guys that I'll meet at a Uda or a Kroger
or whatever. They're like, hey, tell Sullivan, he got me
in some deep you know what.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
I'll be a lot of times the church, somebody have
come up to me. You're like, you gotta shut up
on the weekend.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
You're killing me, all right.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Ceiling fans are one thing. A lot of people like humidifiers.
Do you humidifyer?

Speaker 5 (06:10):
Yeah, So a lot of times people have humidifiers and
they have it for the winter time. They have it
on the furnace because it's very dry in the winter,
so we put moisture in the air. Of course, this
time of year. When it starts heating it up, we
start having humidity issues in the house, so we want
to dehumidifier. I can't tell you how many times does

(06:31):
this happen, Tom the humidifier people forget to turn off.

Speaker 6 (06:36):
So here we are.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
We're running dehumidifier taking moisture out of the air, and
we got a umidifier throwing moisture into the air. So
if you have the humidifier on the furnace, it's usually
a big white box right on the ductwork, and you'll
see a little quarter inch copper tube that goes up
to a valve and there's a shut off out.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
Just turn that valve off. That's all you got to do.
It's all you gotta do.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah, well, that's a good one to remember. Yeah, a
very good one to turn.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
Off to umidify.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
And if you're running over fifty fifty five percent, you
mody in your house, you can turn on your deumidifier.

Speaker 6 (07:12):
Otherwise, just let things be for.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
A while, all right, We got some good stuff still
to come here, though. People are going to run the
rac Yeah, well, sooner or later they're gonna run it
right yes to day, but sooner or later probably very important.
Is it every year or maybe every other year to
get that thing service and checked out or what you know?

Speaker 5 (07:32):
Ideally I do it at my house every year. I
have a service that comes and checks all the connections,
checks the free on, does everything. And their statistics that say,
if you really check it out, have it serviced annually,
lifespan of that will be increased twenty five to thirty percent. Huh,

(07:52):
And so I have it done now. A lot of
people are in most heating and cooling companies offer a
really good deal on that. You know, they want to
get in your home, they want to meet you, and
if there's a problem, you're probably going to be interested
in doing some business with them. But that's also why
a lot of people don't want to do it. Oh yeah,

(08:13):
they're going to come out. They're going to tell me
I need an ACU. I'm going to sit here and
tell you. I'm not going to say that doesn't happen.
But the advice I am going to give you is
there's a lot of heating and cooling companies that give
free second opinions.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Okay, And you.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
Know, I think we all have a feeling whether things
are about on their last leg or not, but I
think I would have it serviced on an annual basis
a lot of times. Then if you have a problem,
they'll give you a discount on parts. You'll go to
the top of the line. And if you don't do it,
just get outside and make sure there's no debris around
the compressor outside. In other words, gosh, can you believe

(08:52):
how the bushes and trees have grown in the line. Well,
if they're growing over that compressor and you're reducing the airflow,
that baby's working harder, which means it's costing you more.
So trim that stuff back and you know, get, don't get,
don't let the breeze build up around that. You just
reduce the airflow.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Okay, we got a couple of more here that I
can't wait to hear.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
What this is all about? Well, what is washing my
front door to an against you?

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I mean, you know why I'm bringing it up because
that's something I'm more than capable of doing.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Well, yeah, yes.

Speaker 6 (09:25):
Well I'll tell you what. We have a lot of pollen.
We're just kind of in or past the pollen.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
See a lot of it, and we don't use.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
Or a lot of people don't use their front door anymore.
They go through the garage and a lot of homes.
And I was out doing some work trimming bushes this
past week and I have a dark spruce colored entry door.
And I looked up and say, that thing is a
hot mess.

Speaker 6 (09:51):
There's dust all over that.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
You know, it's like a six panel door. And I thought,
you know, that's a tip I've never really talked about.
I'll probably really get showed out for this one, but
take a look at if you got a dark door,
there's probably pollen all over that door. Just get the hose.
That's all I did. I hosed it off, had a sponge,
kind of went over. Didn't even really use a lot
of soap and water at all, And it literally took

(10:13):
me fifteen minutes.

Speaker 6 (10:15):
Take a look at that, because.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
Who uses your front door all the time? Guess yeah,
And you may be going through the entry or through
the garage door, and you may not be paying any
attention at all.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
I've closed the entire operation to any friends, family, they're
all out. Okay, now let's get here's another one. I mean,
I can't wait to hear this porch lights.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Right, you're telling me the color of the bulb is
that what I'm reading here. Yeah, yeah, what are you
telling me here?

Speaker 5 (10:43):
So they're called Kelvin units.

Speaker 6 (10:45):
That's kind of the brightness.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
Now led bulbs you see among cars, they're almost bright
and they're blue. But then you see older light bulbs,
they're kind of warm and mellow and kind of like
sunset yellowie. Yeah, you don't want your house to look
like a gas station.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Okay, you do.

Speaker 6 (11:06):
On blue LED bulbs.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
That's that's that's for operating rooms, not your front door,
all right, all right.

Speaker 6 (11:12):
So get those changed out.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
Even if you have the old incandescent bulbs, they make
some wonderful LED bulbs and you're looking for a very
soft white or if you're looking at Kelvin units, all
bulbs are listed that way. Now you'd want a Kelvin
union around, you know, twenty two hundred not seven thousand.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Okay. Now these next couple, I mean make perfect sense.

Speaker 6 (11:34):
Right.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
You're talking about maybe calking around the pipes a dryer
vent for an example, right, I mean, that makes perfect
sense as you're trying to keep everything air tight, and
I'd spend more money, right and.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
Keep mice out of the house and bugs and water
and on it goes guess who got called the.

Speaker 6 (11:52):
Task on this one?

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Oooh me? So wait wait stop, we have mouth.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Or your wife comes up to you and says, honey,
have you checked the calking around the dryer vent.

Speaker 6 (12:03):
It's usually like Gary, yeah, have you heard that before?

Speaker 1 (12:09):
But it's amazing that she has, probably just being with
you all these years, right, she knows what she's looking
for where most of us don't.

Speaker 5 (12:15):
Honest to goodness, we had a mouse. We couldn't get them.
I'm setting traps. We got a cup of them and
we finally got rid of them. But one day she goes, hey, Gary,
what I think I know where the mice are coming in?

Speaker 6 (12:26):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Where's that sue around the dryer vent? I go, Really,
I went out looked and I went, sure enough, Yeah,
it's maybe two three feet up off the ground on
the brick wall, and I could slide a whole pencil
all the way around that thing.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
I go.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
They can crawl up that wall, they can come right in,
go in the launder room, to the kitchen. Bingo and
a little bit of cocking, a little bit of observation,
you can solve those problems real fast.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Okay, and them lastly, this one obviously you know the
stripping that you have right around doors, that kind.

Speaker 6 (12:57):
Of weather stripping.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Well everybody always usually will call the
show and Gary, how do I know there's a gap? Well,
you can feel the breeze or whatever. Right now is
a perfect time to take a look. I mean, it's
nice and sunny and bright till what eight thirty or something.
You got in the middle of the afternoon. Stand inside
your home. It's a little darker than outside. You can

(13:19):
see sunshine around the door. You've got a problem with
the weather stripping. That door is not sealed real tight.
So you got your answer real fast. Get that weather
stripping replaced, get that door tightened up, and you save
yourself a little money too.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Gary, you're the man. You're the man.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Day out of trouble, day out of trouble. Tell all
your friends get busy, complain.

Speaker 6 (13:41):
And just do the job.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Oh boy, boy, I leave that thought with you.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Yeah, I'm gonna hear after that line, it's going to
double up the number of people. Okay, all right, I
hope you have a great weekend, my friend.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
You do the same time.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
An Gary Sullimon, We love Gary Sullivon, good man. All right,
Chuck Ingram's good man too, Chuck, Now you've got a list.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
You're not kidding? Oh man, do you do?

Speaker 3 (14:05):
I mean we've talked many times. You do a lot
of this stuff yourself around the house, and I bring
it on myself too.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Have you ever heard of anything like washing the front door? No? Okay,
now that one you got me there went.

Speaker 7 (14:18):
I'm but I'm pretty sure he's right on the money.
When I go home and look at our black front door,
gonna go wait a minute, Yeah, when did we paint
this brown? Exactly? Now you got a few more little bucks?

Speaker 1 (14:32):

Speaker 4 (17:23):
Oh absolutely, well our plans were golf and red game,
but we will see because the weather is not looking
promising on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Actually, Jennifer kind of made an alteration. I don't know
if you heard it this morning. She was recording earlier
in the week that it looked like there would be
rain in the afternoon on Sunday, but now she's saying
spotty at best and not to wash out or change
any plans.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
So maybe you're in business. How about that?

Speaker 4 (17:48):
Right, Well, that would just be great. That would make
the day purpose.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Okay, Mother's Day is all about family, so we're going
to start there about things to do and as you
like to say, where we can go make some memory.
So if we have the kids and we're looking for
stuff to do this weekend, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (18:05):
Okay? So we have story time and more at the
Hidden Valley Orchards in eleven In. Now this looks so cute.
They do bring your little readers enjoy calm cozy farm morning.

they have this. We have a Slingers doubleheader. So this
is our arena football. Yeah, that is part of the
Parriage Bank. This is fun, Mom's getting free. This is Saturday.
There are two games. Like I said, first games at
four this is two European teams and then following that
are the Slingers versus the Great Eight.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Now I want to make sure I get this straight.
On Saturday, for both of those games or just one
of those games, just mom get in free both of them.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
Well, I think it's both games because it's a double headers,
so I think you're then you're in.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
Okay, all right, fair enough, all right, what else is happening.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
There's a Mom's night out and this is family fun,
so this could be a little celebration for mom dancing, food, drinks, raffles.
And this is at Mount Echo Park and this is
Saturday six to nine and that's a free event, so fun. Okay,
this is cool. This is kind of kids, family, but

it more exciting. Yeah, right, fireworks and an awesome mentalist
is going to be there doing an interactive show after
the game on Friday.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Will it helped me here?

Speaker 4 (19:59):
I know, I guess. I don't know. I guess he
makes things disappear as all an illusion. I don't know
what's going to happen, but I'm kind of intrigued.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Maybe he makes that bullpen disappear.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
Well, that's I figured there would be a joke in there,
and there could be a lot of joking.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah, there will be there. That was a cheap shot.
I'm sorry, I.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Know it was where I was going with that. Yeah,
