I'm Russ with Angel and Ryan Ray Trendley here with
us today, but I still want to I want to
catch up with you for sure.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
But we're still kind.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Of on Monster Sports a little bit because I wanted
to talk about a pretty big sports story that's out
and that is Serena Williams had a match, came back
and of course she had retired, felt like, you know,
she was done. She's won I forget how many titles
she's won, and she's won so many, uh you know,
tournaments and things, and she's the greatest female tennis player
(00:50):
of all time, one of the greatest athletes of all time.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Decided to retire. And then there's recently now that.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Her kids are kind of grown up and everything, and
she says, because she was taking the GLP one, it's
been easier for her to train and to lose weight
and all this, she decided to come out of retirement.
And of course, anytime an athlete that is a high
athlete comes back, we never know if they're going to
be able to be at that level again, right, And
it happened with a lot like did Michael Jordan do
(01:17):
that where he retired and came back and people know
he won championships. He stayed too long? Jordan stayed too long? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
But there have been other athletes and they come back, You're.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Not as great as he used to be. It happens
with football players. They'll take that one season off and
then they come back and they're just a step slower.
It's happened with h It doesn't happen too often in
the NBA where a guy will actually sit out a
season and come back, but when in the times that
it has, yeah, it's disastrous.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
And Serena has been out for a little while.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
With Serena though, and again, you've played Actually i'd defer
to you on this one because you have a better
understanding of tennis. So she's coming back, but as of
right now, she's only going to be playing doubles.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
No she played double and and killed like like it
was her and this like a half her age, and
they murdered whoever it was that Buko and the team
they played they thought were gonna win the whole thing,
and Serena like took over. And so after they interviewed
her and they said, do you think you will do Wimbledon?
And she's thinking about it. She might she might play
(02:19):
in Wimbledon.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
So that would be the scenario where where the potential. Again,
I'm just making these wild ass assumptions because I think
the the you know, between doubles and uh and singles tennis.
I think that with doubles there's a place for you.
I don't want to say hide, but if you have
a strong enough player, they can cover for whatever weaknesses
that you have. Yeah, a on A on a singles,
(02:41):
that's that's just you out there, and there's a bigger
potential to be exposed.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well, that was the story in this is that Serena
was the one who was doing the playing, like and
then she had this young partner and Serena was crushing
it and and all the all the people who are
you know, I guess you're your tennis expert and everything
we're saying, Yeah, Sta only does she still got it?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
She looked better than the last time we saw her.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Test there she's on something that we're either not testing
for or don't have a test for.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
Yet.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
You don't come out at forty four years old like
dad after like.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, she says, the GLP one, the weight loss.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, that's what it's gonna be. This is gonna be
a Lance Armstrong type of situation. I'm calling it now,
calling my shot. There's something we don't know. She's gonna
call it jeev if GLP one, maybe it scans that way,
but you just don't come out at forty four years
old suddenly, this getting her blood spunge exactly. There's something
else going on there. Of course, what if it just
you pay GLP ones. I don't see you doing backflip.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Well, I'll be honest with you. Like she she didn't
look like she was that much thinner. I didn't when
I saw her playing like a shape. She just looks
in shade.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Want to do a side by side some of the
things that I saw, like the last time that she
was playing let's say, you know, professional singles, and what
she looks like now again because that's the thing with
that drug affect your muscle mass.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
So she seemed you know, she's boy, she still looks fit.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
She is great.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Yeah, she looks fit, but you could tell that there
there is a size difference.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well, I don't know, lookten I'm pulling for I would
love to see her. I would love to see her
play in Wimbledon and do a great job.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
And and damnit win the thing.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Just look at that that look that's pretty noticeable.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, okay, that is uh well, when she was playing
last night though, on the court, she kind of looked
the exact same. But you're right in that pink and
that that purple thing.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
That was the last time she played, and she was
thicker there, so she is thinner now.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
But uh man, I'm pulling for her. I think it's awesome.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
I mean to see her come back and prove that
she's the greatest female tennis player ever.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
Uh, I don't know. I think it's an awesome story. No,
I agree. I think it's really cool to see her
come out and compete at a high level. I do
agree with Angel though, and again I'm not I'm not
a tennis expert by any stretch of the imagination. But
I do think that having somebody who can cover half
the court does allow you to maybe be a step slower. Yeah,
because obviously she's still the power.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Well, she even said, she's like, yeah, I've got a
ways to go. She was very critical of herself. Yeah,
she's like, oh, I you know, I've got room for growth,
I got room to improve, you know, which is what
a great athlete says.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Right, sure, for sure. So I think it's a cool story,
for sure. Yeah, Like I'm pulling for her. I think
I think it would be awesome. I think me really
really cool. So uh but yeah, that was a major story.
But that's you know, for Serena Williams to come back.
Does it say how many years she was off? Was
it like two three years? As I said, I think
it was three or four. Yeah, she wanted to spend
some time at home with the kids, and she.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Said, now our kids are old enough, like twenty twenty two.
She's sitting around twenty twenty. Oh yeah, it's been a
while and she's now our kids are old enough, and
like she doesn't She's like, I have nothing to do, figure,
I might as well get back, and you.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
Know, but you don't find it fishy at all.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I mean, like, you go out of competition for four years,
I mean the highest level of competition.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
I don't care what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
If you're not training for that specific level and you
just come back and you're just able to do it.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
I just don't believe in muscle memory that much. Do
not think that she was fourteen or play tennis when
she was retired.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
She's one of the greatest player players ever.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
And she's also forty four. And like you're gonna kick,
You're gonna kick in weird stuff. You're gonna get perry menopausala,
You're gonna get start with the osteoporosis.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
There's still you know what comes in. I mean it
could be hormone. Really, you mentioned like some secret sauce
that they're not testing for me. It could be the
hormones and related to perimenopolitis.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I mean, so what so I'm telling look for me
Allegedly my conspiracy there on this is that there's some
kind of version of juicing that's happening here that we
are not detecting. We probably never will because I don't
think it's not like a Lance Armstrong where they constantly
go back and do this. They're not gonna test forty
four year olds three and Willams because everybody's like, what
(06:39):
a great story.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
Yeah, you know. I think part of the problem Ryan,
I think it's you're trying to get back in the gym.
You realize how much harder it is, yes, and are
taking it out on Uh.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
How about this, Like that's if she's doing all those things,
Like if she's doing all those things, if Tom Brady
was doing those things, if Lebron James has been doing
those things, and even though they're sporting the leagues that
they're played for, don't test for it yet or whatever.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
And just beyond well, then why not be honest about it? Well,
she's being honest about the GLP one. I mean, she
got she got a commercial her taking it. She's telling
everybody she's doing it just helped her. And she even
said it's helped her stay in shape and it was
getting difficult for her to stay in shape when she retired.
And now she's like, oh, I could have played longer
if I'd have had this before, and she's given it credit.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
I see wrong with it.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I know in all of history this has never happened.
So I'm just supposed to believe that all history people
haven't had GLP ones to help them lose weight. She's
lost the weight and she feels she runs a little
bit faster, she feels better, so she's admitting more light
on her feet.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
But that's not what golp ones do.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
They don't suddenly make you like back to the absolute
athletic form.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
No, they help you drop her in her twenties, it
helps you drop fat. And if you drop fat, then
for her it's probably easier to run. Have you been
fooled by a lot of Facebook stuff?
Speaker 2 (07:57):
What was that got to do with it?
Speaker 5 (07:58):
You're a you're, you're, you're a bit of a room.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
When it comes to this, guys, if you want to
believe that this thing is a thing, and I have
to look at it and go like, this has never
happened in history, No one's ever done this.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
So there's something else at play, like.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
ALP I guess, but you can't fight the fact that
she's forty four and forty eight four year olds.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
A don't look like that and B don't move like that. Man,
I think you're looking back in the mirror. You just
gotch profession. I know what it's like to be.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
She's one of the greatest professional athletes to ever live,
one of them right in the top ten at least,
and you're like.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
The top fantasize.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
I mean we everybody we are. And again, there's no
fault in you, Russ if you're if you're going to
romanticize it, fine, you want to be. We all want
to think that our you know, hero has got one
more goes to them.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
You want it. You want to believe the Disney story. Yes,
you want to hold yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Version, and then when it comes crashing down and she
doesn't do that, you're going to be heartbroken.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
So you don't listen.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
I think that she's going to play in Wimbledon, and
I think she's gonna win a couple pretty big matches
and that'll be cool. I don't think she'll win the
entire tournament, but it'll be it'll be a cool you know,
she came back.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Kind of a thing.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
I think she's going to try to play Wimbledon. They're
gonna be like, well, we got to test you, and
then suddenly she oh, actually I can't do it.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
It's crazy. What maybe next time?
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Well, this was a big tournament though, this was the
what's the HB Like this was a sanctioned HSBC championships,
So this is this was a testeder uh and in
that world of that. So from this point forward, she
will be tested quite regularly.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
I know.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
But like much like in the way there's they're always
coming up with new stuff. I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
That's because the same thing that we're saying about her
rust is the same thing that was said about Tom
Brady is the same thing that has been said about
Lebron James, same thing that's said about Luca when he
went again. Why why did Luca leave this country to
rehab and went straight to Germany?
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Right?
Speaker 4 (09:58):
These are questions that are asked when these high athletes
who have deep, deep pockets that have access to other
types of medicine and recovery things that us regular do.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
People don't, right, I don't know. I like a good
comeback story. I want to say, well, I want to
see her do well. People say she already she did
get tested for peds that she she had none. Uh,
so your your observation has already been addressed.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
Town conspiracy theory.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
At this point, I got no proof other than like
this doesn't happen.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
And there's no way to test for stem cells. Yeah,
and so the stem cell thing is one of those
things that's been you know again hurled at all these
athletes that are forty and over that are doing you know,
other worldly things that haven't been done before.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Right right, all right, Well, take a little break and
come back. We'll wrap up.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Well, we'll get to with Ray Trentley find out, uh
see if they had a good time on Friday night.
He was out with us for the Mountdoor event. So
we'll talk to Ray when we come back. Don't go anywhere.
You're listening to the Monster in the morning.
Speaker 6 (10:58):
Real voices laughs, Real radio one oh four point one
guaranteed human.
Speaker 5 (11:04):

dot Com the only business software you will need.
Speaker 2 (11:12):

a check after Central Florida forecast and for our Wednesday
we are This is Steely Dan with black cow.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
Love very high. It wasn't cry disgrace? What is Steely Dan?
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Uh? Is that time?
Speaker 5 (11:38):
It's a build up? Non? I know that, hold on,
hold on, I know that, but is that wait? What
is that rock?
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Rock?
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Steely Dan is a delight. It's yacht rock, dude, It's yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Remember the documentary and he and he hated the fact
that the Steely Day was was included all that.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
Sure, do you like it though?
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Everyone's Steely Dan?
Speaker 4 (12:02):
I like, that's that that really fantastic documentary that's on
HBO about y'all.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah, yeah, was his named Steve Egan or Steve Egan anyway,
but yeah, he was like at the center of it,
and yeah, it's at the end of it.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
He's just telling them the f off. Yeah, all that stuff.
And I don't even know that song you just played,
but I just was like the the way it sounds anyway.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
That was my little not to New York as well.
You guys get your ass together.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
And it's called a black Cow's name track is called
black how Today's National Black Cow Day. Let me ask
you a question, right, tr have you ever had a
black cow?
Speaker 5 (12:33):
I've had chocolate milk. That's not that's not it. That's
not it.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
A black cow is basically root beer with a scoop
of vanilla ice cream in it. Oh yeah, but it's
but what is it called?
Speaker 5 (12:48):
Ryan?
Speaker 2 (12:48):
You looked it up.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
It's called a black cow. That's but that's what it is.
It's the National Black cow Day, and that's what it is.
I had a root beer float yesterday. Did you with
my hot dog and baked bean?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
I like you this way.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
I hated you when you were trying to lose weight.
You were bro grumpy about food. And I love the
fact you're eating a hot dog.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
With beans onions some mustard. Where'd you get that out?
Hot Dog Heaven?
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (13:17):
I love Hot Dog Heaven.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
I've known the owner forever. Uh I like to get
the Chicago dog when I go there. I got a
Chicago dog too.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Damn man. There was a conversation how many hot dogs?
Is too many hot dogs? At my ofufice last night?
I got a party with that cowboy. That sounds like
I haven't been a hot dog having forever. I love
that place.
Speaker 5 (13:35):
We got night later.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
The fries there so good. That is an Orlando institution.
You've never been to Hot Dog Heaven and the owner
and I'm so sorry.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
I can't.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
If I saw him, I'd say, hey, buddy, what's up.
I can't remember his first name, but uh man, Jimmy
and I Jim Colbert, dirty Jim whatever. We used to
go there all the time when we first started the
radio show, and they were one of the they sponsored
like a couple of shows for us or whatever. And
and I known him since the freaking nineties.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Yeah yeah, I mean I've been since I've been Orlando,
I've been going there and still amazing.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
His daughter runs it now. He kind of retired. I
think that's the last time I went there. That's what
she told me. But anyway, Wow, So you went to
Donald Fagan is from steely Do. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So
tell me Ray, you were one of our guests out
at the Master night. You know, Monster's not a live
(14:29):
night out in Mount Dora Mount Dora Music Hall. I
had you set up. You know, this was on purpose.
I had you set up next to Angelique. Yeah, because
there you guys get along real well when you in
our area, so you could be with all of us.
You know, how'd you feel about you know where I
had you set because you were in the air conditioning.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
I didn't want you outside.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
I was right in the air conditioning was amazing. Yeah,
the way you had it set up, I mean Bo
shout out to Bo. He's like, hey, man, if you
send right here, this is where the aces blowing yeah, yeah,
and so it was. It was a perfect that up.
So even though I got a little I got a
little s for wearing my suit because I came straight
from the office. Yeah, I was comfortable. I was right
(15:07):
by the A c to a lot of selfies with folks.
Do people know it was you?
Speaker 2 (15:11):
They know it because your little sign was there.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
I felt weird because you know, when I meet somebody
for the first time, I introduced myself and they're like, yeah,
we know who you are, and I was like, but
I don't know who you are, and I don't know
how to start this conversation with I'm Ray, you know,
nice to beat you, and so, uh, it was really
cool setup. I ended up sitting next to this lady
who had never listened to The Monsters in the morning before.
(15:37):
She was a fan of the band, and so we
were just chatting it up. Uh, you know, before the
show started bad saying Angry, Angry else and she's a
big fan of the band, and so she they told
her to come out, and so she's there and she's like,
what what is this set up? And I tried to
explain what the show is about. I was like, you know,
it's it's kind of like comedy talk radio. They talk
(15:58):
about sports, they talk about life, they talk about music, whatever,
and she's like, oh, this sounds really cool. English was
not her first language. She's from Puerto Rico, and so
you know, I share attle of this stuff about Angel
and Daisy and I'm like, oh, you know, Daisy's wild,
and you know, I mentioned Ryan this comedy and and
she said, oh, the guy in the chair, is he
(16:20):
a pimp? And I was like, what do you mean.
He's like hey, yeah. She's like, look at all these
prostitutes up there, and she was referring to Daisy and
Amber and I was like, oh no, I didn't really
know what to say about you. So you know, I'm
talking about Angel, he's talking about Ryan, and so she's like, oh,
(16:41):
he must be the pimp. And I was like, oh no, no, no,
I was like, no, they're not. I was like, they're
not prostitutes. She's like, oh, porn stars and I mean
one kind of that's hilarious. And so then I correct
her and then she's like terribly embarrassed. She's like, please,
don't tell them I said this. And I said, I'm
absolutely gonna tell them you said this. I was really
(17:03):
hoping Amber is gonna be here for this conversation because
and how U how upset she would be.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I guess the way it was set up. It was
I'm sitting up here, and then three ladies were.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
All in front of you, and and apparently to the
talk about starting prostitution again.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Bringing it back that is fair? Uh we should I
think know that's sacrilegious, how I'm but yeah, so it was.
It was so funny and trying to explain like the
context when Angelique was doing her thing with Dirty Jim,
uh Jim Colbert and with Tiffany and and bo and
(17:40):
talking about like the show when it first started. It was,
you know, trying to give her context of all things.
So it's like almost I was like narrating it to
her and here's how the show started and here's what happened.
And she's like, oh, oh, she was so interested in it,
really good. And then so she said she was gonna
be listening for now on. She said she's gonna be
a listener for life, and and uh, so hopefully she's listening.
(18:02):
I forgot your name. I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
I was.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Has had a great time as well, but uh, and
then the band was amazing. Tyler King Tyler, I swear
that kid. He he absolutely amazes me.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
And he's actually recording a song I believe it's today
with Monster Music man Matt an original song and uh
and and I think, I don't want to give anything away,
but he's they're making some changes in what he does
and uh man uh energy that I could see that
kid going places a hundred.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Percent one hundred. I mean, every part of the show
was amazing Friday end. If you missed it, you missed it.
I'm sorry. Every part of the show is amazing, but
I felt like just the music part, the production part,
you know, Angel doing his thing. I thought I would
have gone just for that. It was so good. It
(18:50):
was such a good time. So those things are a
lot of work together. I literally have no idea I
can imagine though.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
But but I loved here.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
For for me, that very last thing when we come out,
we're all singing the beer song together and you see
the audience and the crowd getting into it. For sure,
to me is the payoff. My my wife is like,
why do you put yourself through all this? And I'm like,
I like to watch everybody have fun. And so when
I'm on stage and I'm legitimately having the most fun
of my life watching everybody else dig that sing a
damn song we wrote and they're into it, you know,
(19:20):
and I just thought it was great.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
Well, I appreciate you coming out. Thank you for having
me really appreciate it. And I got you.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
You got to see, uh you got to meet We
already met del tor Borgan before I met Deal before you. Yeah,
but anyone anyone that you got to meet for the
first time. So I met Onyx for the first time
on the one.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Yeah, he's great and and you guys mentioned that he's
a big dude, but you know, wrestling dudes, you don't
really can't really tell. Yeah, sometimes you can't tell a
least he's a big dude. Yes, and he just seems
super sweet and nice. Uh so he's he's my kind
of people. So we chatted a little bit good and
then we did shot to tequila because Daisy had tequila. Yes,
(19:59):
did you meet Tuttle? I met a tonne a long
time ago, but Tuddle I talked a little bit. And
when I saw Ryan walking around with a sword, and
somehow I thought the sword was gonna be part of
the Gammick. I'm glad it wasn't the fact that Daisy
was gonna be the one wielding the weapon. I'm glad
it wasn't a sword. No, that would be really bad,
(20:21):
really bad. But I think most folks i'd met before
at least once. Rodney and I chatted for a long time.
Rodney Rodney the Gator Hunter. I met his daughter for
the first time. She seems awesome, and uh, yeah, it
was just overall a really great time.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Yeah, you know, you know who. Everybody was doing well
at talking everyone. The one that I kind of wanted
to help a little bit was Brian A.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
Rheaz.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Did you get to meet her? She's the same.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
I shook her hand and talked to her a little bit.
I talked to her so sweet.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
But she's young, you know, and and I don't know
that people were talking to her enough, so I kept
trying to send people over to her.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
But she's incredible and incredible singer. I think she's sixteen
years old, so it probably was overwhelming for it. But
her parents brought her and she had all her merchandise
and stuff.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
I shook her hand and I met her when she
first came on. Yeah, and I just asked how she
was doing and you know, enjoying her summer and stuff
like that. I didn't really spend a ton of time
talking to her. I do think I think you're right.
I think that's setting. With all the people that were there.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
It was loud with Jeff how plain in there was.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
It was loud, but it was also just loud with
people having a good time. Yeah, and so I think
that might have been a little bit intimidating for But
I mean, I think she's super awesome, and I, you know,
continue to support her because she's great.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Yeah, Well I appreciate you coming out.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
I think the photos of people and everything, we got
to take a little break, I got we got some
more questions to ask.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Friendly Ray Trendy.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
By the way, if you're going through divorce or you
have any family law questions, any any legal questions, it's
a one firm for life dot com. That's one firm
Forlife dot com to talk to Friendly Ray Trendly. Don't
go anywhere. You're listening to the mantra of the morning.
Speaker 6 (22:01):
It's happening heaven again. Gain gain July. Third word, if
you ready Mount Dora, Dora Dora We're coming, coming, Come mooting,
come woking, come wing.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Come with.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Looking at morning traffic in the Orlando area for those
traveling east and westbound on I four this morning, with
heavy delays reported between US twenty seven and the four
to twenty.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Night Welcome Back on RUSS with Angel and Ryan and
friendly Ray Trendley here today. Hey, So let me tell you,
this is like the third or fourth story I've seen
this way, And I'm gonna tell you straight up, even
though I am admittedly and I say it all the time,
I don't really care for soccer. It doesn't interest me.
I don't really It's not my thing. Even though that's
the way I feel, I don't feel I agree with
what I've been seeing. And it's another story that's saying
(22:49):
this because because I know people who are into the
World Cup and into soccer, I know a lot of
people that are, and maybe because we're here in Orlando
and we have Orlando City, maybe that's what it is.
But another story comes out and it says the World
Cup starts tomorrow and most Americans don't care. According to
a new poll, fifty four percent of Americans have no
interest in World Cup and could care less that it's
(23:11):
going to be here. It does start tomorrow. I did
not realize it started tomorrow. And where where does it start?
Speaker 3 (23:17):
So we.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
I know it's in Mexico, it's in Canada.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
And the opening game the United States, the United States
is in Inglewood, California.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
In California Friday. Yeah, that's this Friday night. But the
whole event starts tomorrow three pm Mexico versus South Africa.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Okay, so we so Ray, let me ask you because
you know, I know you're a football guy, so you
watch a lot of football and stuff. World Cup? Do
you care one of the.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
Other I'll watch it, for sure, I'll watch it. You know,
I don't. I don't have a lot of time to
keep up with all the sports and all the different
statistics and yeah, you know, even like basketball. I love
watching a basketball game. Going to basketball games a great time.
But I don't only pay attention to basketball until we
get into the playoffs in the finals. Yeah, I'm saying
(24:07):
with with MLB. You know, like and I do like
the new rules for baseball, but I still can't.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
I had a couple of seasons where I was watching
you into the race, and then one season I'm like
I'm watching every game this year, and when I did that,
I burnt myself out and we haven't gone back.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
I watched too much. Well, and part of the issue
for me specifically with soccer or football or whatever you
want to refer to it, as they don't always start
at the right times for my my lifestyle. Like at
least for the NFL, it's like one o'clock or four
o'clock or eight o'clock on a Sunday, on a Sunday,
watch it, and I can watch it, so I've be
(24:46):
I guess I'm not working Sunday this week, you know, so,
uh so it makes it a little bit easier. With soccer,
I don't have that.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
I agree with what Angel said the other day is
that one of the reasons I think most of most
Americans don't care about it is that we don't have
a team that really competes that well.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
That's a fair point, that they're not known for its
It's not like even the people that know a lot
about soccer. I saw an interview the other day and
they say, well, I don't think the American team is
going to do and and these people that really know,
they're like not really, Yeah, you know if they win,
If they win, win, it'd be great, you know, like
no one's given them a chance or whatever.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
So that's probably one of the reasons why. But I
do know a lot of people that love soccer, like
you know, like Jack Bradshaw does and Angel and Ryan
and I know Ross Pageant and like, there are a
lot of people that I know that are really into it.
Uh So it's hard, but but I mean, you know,
I don't I don't know if that's just because of
just the people.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
I know. What do you think, Ryan, you think you
agree with this poll that most Americans don't care about
World Cup soccer? Yeah, I yeah, fully agree, and they're
they're wrong because it's so fun, especially when it comes
to the World Cup. I know, the USA, the first
our first game isn't sold out and there are really
yeah there's still tickets available on the direct market, and
then stub Hub has thousands of unsold tickets still, which
(26:01):
is crazy. When is the first game in America play
Friday Friday and we're at California in California. Yeah, so
that that says some that and I do believe it's
also the pricing because the tickets at the lowest end
are over one thousand dollars per person.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Now Angel's got a gimmick where he's going out to
the places and giving away tickets for Miami.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Sorry, when when's your next one of those Friday Night,
I'm gonna be at a Elixir from seven thirty to
nine thirty, and then Saturday, I'll be at Walter's Tavern
from five to seven.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
So you're seeing people all the time that are into
World Cup soccer, right, but they're.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Coming specifically for that, right, So, and they're they're fans
of it and and their watch parties. So, like we
had soccer match on the television at the Hideaway this
past weekend, so they're they're fans of the whole phenomenon.
I when it comes to this, I think it's difficult
for American fans to get into it because of like,
(26:56):
you know, unless you've been following it. You know, if
I was to tell you who's the number one star
for American soccer, rust to tell you Christian Polsek. Right, Uh,
he saved a goal with his penis last season.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
I'm again that that that single fact should have hurled
him into the stratosphere of American Uh. Lore, and and
and and it hasn't And he plays, he plays in Europe,
he plays in Premier League. He he is our you
know right now. And there's a couple guys that are
right there nipping out his heels for that title.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Ye.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
It's unfortunate, though, is this World Cup?
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Like actually being in the US kind of sucks in
a way because I like it when it's like in
Europe and you have these games that are sometimes at
like three in the morning. Uh. You like that because
you can go to like these bars and places all
open and you can go at like eight am and
like watch these games. It's fantastic. But like this year,
like I'll be going uh to holler back, holler back
(27:57):
in Stanford. And when Germany they're they're hosting a bunch
of games, they're actually doing watch parties in their like
upstairs area for like thirty five bucks. You get a
buffet and stuff. But Russ, this is what you need
to do. You need to go where around where the
people that care about soccer. It's so fun, whether they're
doing the chance, whether it's the cheers, because like I know,
you think it's a lot of nothing happens, but it's
(28:19):
not necessarily about just the goals every time, you know.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
And I'm not going to pretend like everybody's like me,
because they're not. I know, I have weird ways of
looking at the things, and I get that. For me,
it seems like I'm comparing against football, and I'm like,
this is not any if I grew up playing football
I watched with so I feel like it's not football,
it's not as good.
Speaker 5 (28:38):
I don't care about it.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
So I feel like I compare it to American football,
and that's why I don't have a episode.
Speaker 5 (28:44):
Interest for it. I'm with Ryan on it, though. I
think if you've ever gone to a bar with a
bunch of people reading for rooting for Team Germany and
everybody's drinking and eating and having a good time. I
remember when Argentina was and in a couple of years
ago I had a bunch of Argentinian friends I went
out to a couple of watch parties with.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
It was a great time. Is my buddy, Yeah, my
buddy Ricky. So we went, you know, all the guys
got together, went to go grab something. He went to
go to the alehouse, right, and he didn't realize that
the Argentinian friendly was on last night versus Islip. Yeah,
it took everything to us to stop him because he
was about to leave. He's like, I'll be right back
(29:24):
because he doesn't live far from there. He was gonna
jump in his car rush again. This is the level
of fandom, irrational fandom. Go home again for friendly, put
his Argentina jersey on, and come back.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
I believe it.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
It's a good time I had. I went to the
very first Orlando City game, which was a big deal.
I went to that, but it ended up being.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
A tie, and I remember going this suck like so
the very first game, I got pissed off, like a tie,
there's no winner here, this sucks and so it just
I don't know, I just can't. It's not for me,
not my thing.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
But you went to like a so Orlando City like,
but there wasn't like the full on culture yet of
it all here. I like, because it's a different vibe
than that first opening game too. But I'm saying like,
especially with the World Cup, go to an English pub,
go to the German restaurant, go to a place where
you're gonna find ex pats of these countries and just
the the fervor that they get into right is electrifying
(30:23):
and it's it'll it'll catch on to you, I promise.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
So as World Cup starts, though, do you think the
interest uh as far as America and it's gonna be
on TV a lot, They'll be reporting it a lot.
There's gonna be some drama. It's gonna come up.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
I'm sure sure something's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
You think it will increase the the attention and more
Americans will be into it once we get into the month.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
If if the Team USA is able to win this
for opener, Yeah, and convincing and convincingly fashion, I think
that'll go a long long way. The drama that they're
having right now is not the drama that they want
as far as the World Cup goes. The way that
the teams are being treated, different teams are being treated
different ways as they come into the country, and it's
everyone's catching it on camera. That's not what That's not
(31:07):
the kind of pop that they want. What do you
mean which country? Certain teams are able to come into
the United States of America and not get screened, not
get checked, not be held on the tarmac of an airport,
and have all their bags open and going through other
teams are able to walk right in.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
Uh we have.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
We've already sent back a ref, a Somalian ref who
had his passport, had all his credential seat. He's going
to be ref in one of the matches. He got
turned away by the United States. So that kind of
negative kind of thing is also hanging over the balance
of this World.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Cup, which which team was checked, like you're saying the
bags were checked. Also also a weird one because we're
having Iran come in Mexico.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Yeah. They took all of Iran's tickets away for the
for their followers, for their teams.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
They were supposed to play in America and they diverted
to Mexico.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
And they're making well I ran, I mean like I ran.
We aren't war with them, Yeah, And so they're making
them fly. They made them fly into Mexico even though
I ran. All three of their games are played in
the United States. They have to fly in, play the
game fly Out, fly in play the game fly Out.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
Why because their families and trainers and stuff aren't allowed
into the country, just players and the coaches. Yeah, So
it's a it's thanking and then you know, on top
of that, you got.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Yeah, Senegal, you Bekistan, Iraq, Iran. We're all teams that
were held on the tarmac and Somalia as well, Uh
held on the tarmac and checked uh that way, while
there was other teams that were able just to walk
right in.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Is every country? Does every country have a team that
plays in the World Come?
Speaker 3 (32:46):
No, No, Like Denmark didn't qualify, Okay, so they didn't qualify.
But like every every country has a team, they just
may or may not have qualified.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
I don't know if every country has a team. I
think most countries do, but I don't think every country does.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Like does Jamaica have a team?
Speaker 5 (33:02):
Uh in the world Jamaica is not, They're not.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Okay, so there are some countries, but like yeah, I
mean like if you're talking Caribbean teams, they're they're part
of conkin F and then like you'll have like Haiti, Panama,
curisus in there in from that group.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Yeah, but yeah, Cuba, does Cuba have a team? Cuba
does not.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
The not.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
There's forty eight countries out of out of roughly two
hundred countries in the world that are in the World
Cup right now.
Speaker 5 (33:28):
It's a good time. Now. I went to a World
Cup qualifying game down to Miami a couple of times.
There's always a good time. Yeah, the stadium's bouncing, people
are having a good time, everybody's got their flags. It's
a good time. Try. I recommend it. I recommend it.
I say we do a lot.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Well again, I wish these games were eight am, you know,
like and we could do live broadcasts from like one
of these taverns or pubs where they're like they're having
the game going.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
You just want to get an excuse to get your
own Yeah, buddy, that's what most of field trip days
on Russe.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
This would have been awesome, but they didn't qualify. So
the Republic of Ireland does have a men's national team,
but they did not qualify for the twenty twenty six
feet of World Cup. But like what they're talking about,
so the sense of nationalism, the sense of of that
that that vibe, that energy right, you know, for the
next World Cup if Ireland qualifies, I think you would
have a great time going to an Irish pub watching,
(34:24):
you know with the ex pats.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Like Ryan was saying, this is as.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Close as we get to go into war, Like how
they did back in the day where like you could,
like you get to really love your country, you solve
your beef, you get to yell these really specific insults,
especially if you're from like Eastern European countries. But like,
I really like what the Norwegian team did. Did you
see the photo shoot the Norwegian soccer team did They
(34:46):
all dressed in traditional Viking gear. They did like photo shoots. Yeah,
and they like in front of a fjord. So you
get this version of like what I like to call
safe nationalism.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
So let's let me squi. So let's say say Lionel
Messi becomes an American citizen. Can he play for the
American team?
Speaker 3 (35:05):
You could choose who you play? He still could never
would yeah, but that that would never happen. Argentina would
literally burn itself down. So our team, our team America. Uh,
it's all people like Idaho is a United States citizens.
Speaker 5 (35:23):
Okay. So my my cousin, she's half Greek, and so
she got the opportunity to play for either team USA
or the Greek soccer team, and she went and she
went to the Greek soccer team.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Because the USA team is not known for doing well.
Speaker 5 (35:36):
I think the opportunity was better. It's a different time.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
But so the best players don't choose to play for
Team USA, And we source a lot of our players
from other countries.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
And that's that's part of the problem is when people
watch MLS, a lot of the good players are not
from here, right And and I think we've we've historically
had a recruiting problem too, because there is you know,
American football and other sports where people you don't think
that's the case. No, I don't. I just don't think
we we we don't have the system in place.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
We don't have kids going to like like the Arsenal's
elementary school.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
We've just like, let's say, in the last decade, started
doing that. But like soccer has improved a lot. Like
if you go to the Dominican Republic, you're a kid,
uh and a young man raised the Dominican Republic, and
you show some aptitude for baseball at at at eight
nine years old, they take you out, they take you
out of regular school, and now you're in the baseball academy.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Right, I do. And the rest of the war cousins
are their names, Friendly Ray Taziki.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
No.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
If you need to get hold of Friendly ray you can.
It's one form for life dot com. That's one firm
for life dot com.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Ray.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Good saying you body, and thank you so much for
coming out on Friday.
Speaker 5 (36:48):
I really appreciate you guys having as a good time.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
All right, don't go anywhere. You're listening to the match
of the morning.
