Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to Circleville High School where the Tigers are
Mid State League Muckeye champions. They come away victorious fifty
three to thirty six. It was a four point lead
early for Fairfield Union and then it was all Tigers
after that got as close as six, but the Tigers

(00:24):
able to pull away. Circleville improves to nineteen and to
overall ten in one in conference play. Fairfield Union falls
to fourteen and seven overall, eight and three in conference play.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Looking at the schedule coming.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Up, Circleville is at Liberty Union on Friday in Fairfield
Union host Bloom Carol on Friday, coach, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
All Circleville.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
After that initial what four or five minutes, they controlled
the tempo the rest of the way and they really
took office. Was a you know, indicative of how they played,
especially second half of the season. This is fourteenth straight
wins for them. Now they are just playing really well.
I mean, they are firing on all cylinders and this

(01:17):
is when you want to be playing your best basketball.
And like we said, for the first time now since
nineteen eighty three, they can say they are league champions.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
And that's you know, until you coach.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
At this level and win a league title. It's hard
to fathom how difficult that is. It doesn't happen very much.
And to be able to achieve that here tonight, that's
just a wonderful thing.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
For the Circleville Tigers.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
And we're going to talk now to victorious coach Coach Callahan, coach,
congratulations on the coach title for a long time here. Yeah, Circleville, Ohio.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
Yeah, thank you. I mean that's uh that it's emotional,
well night.

Speaker 6 (02:02):
I mean that's a pretty big deal for our kids.
You know, just really happy for them and their families
and in our school and our community.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
I mean you look up at that banner, I.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
Mean nineteen eighty three, that was a long time ago.
You know, it's we've never won the mid stat League title.
I mean, it's our first time ever. And uh, you know,
I'm just really proud of our guys. You know, I
thought that, you know, it's not an easy thing to do.
I mean, it's it's tough to do, and uh, you know,
just really happy for our guys and for their families
and for our school right now. And you know, I
thought our guys battle Fairfood Union is a great team.

(02:30):
I mean they're gonna be vying for a league title
for the next two three years, and uh they're not
going away a team we can maybe see in the tournament. Uh, so,
you know, hats off to them. They found an outstanding season.
But you know, I thought our guys.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
Just proud. I thought they stepped up in big moments.

Speaker 6 (02:44):
Defensively, I thought we did a good job keeping them
on the offensive rebounds.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
They didn't get too many, and that's usually what they
live off of.

Speaker 6 (02:50):
And uh, you know, I thought we were pretty steady
all the way around.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
So just really happy.

Speaker 6 (02:54):
For our school, our program, our our community.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
It's a good night for us.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Well, you won fourteen games in a row now.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Since that last loss, and I mean, you guys are
playing well right now. You held a team Farifield Junior
thirty six points. I thought Defensively, you guys did a
tremendous job though.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Yeah, yeah, I mean defense is the reason we're standing here.
I mean, if you looked at our scores early in
the season, you know, Blim Carroll League game, we only
scored thirty four, but when only gave up thirty one,
then you know, Logan Alen. Early on in the season,
we had some battles with them. I mean we were
down I think eight at the half and we played
over at their place. I mean, there's so many league
games that you look back on and our offense wasn't

(03:33):
that great. And I think in the league play it's
even more so because the teams know each other that
much better. You know, when we play fairfield Union, they
know all of our plays and all of our sets,
you know, and vice versa. So in the league, I
think that it's even more so where defense is important
because a good league team's gonna take you out of
what you want to try to do. And you know,
I thought our guys, you know, bought into the defensive end,
and you know, it's it's you know, tonight is not

(03:56):
you were celebrating it tonight.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
But it started two summers ago, you know.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
And in summer when and when we fought a lot
about us and you know, we had a lot of
kids out at us and we had a lot of
kids that probably were not very happy with us as
coaches at times and probably went home and probably.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
Weren't saying very nice things about us.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
Uh, But we wanted to push them and try to
give them an opportunity here and you know this is
this is where you see the end of it here.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
So coach, we appreciate you coming over and talking. Go
celebrate with your kids and if you could maybe send
some of the seniors over talk to me.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
All right, joy, gratulate you guys, Thank you again.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
You can you can tell the elation that he has
in his voice and the hard work that goes into this. Uh,
as he said, it started. Uh you know last year
when he took took over the job.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
And that's what you gotta do.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
You got to come in with the mentality as a
coach that you know, this is what we want to do.
We want to come in here and we want to
battle for league titles every year. And UH, when I
was coaching, that's exactly what I did. My mentality was
I want to I want to get to the highest
level we can and we want to play at that level.
And you know, fortunately I was able to win a

(05:08):
couple of those league titles in my career, and you know,
both of them were very special, and we played for
some more league titles that we lost. So you know,
it's it's a hard thing to do. It's not an
easy thing. There are some coaches that have won a
bunch of them, but the majority of the coaches never
do it.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
And here coach.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
Callahan, and I believe it's his third total year as
a head coach, he gets one already, So congratulations to him,
his staff, his players, the community.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
What a year for Circleville here.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
You know, the football team had a tremendous year with
coach Sherick coming back, you know, a great alumnus of Circleville,
he takes them to gets a playoff win, and you know,
just a tremendous year. Girls basketball team has had some
success as well, and sure the baseball team, and I'm
sure we're missing some other good teams that they've had

(05:59):
here this year. But just a tremendous year so far
for Circleville in their high school here.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, and I just have to think about these the
senior class here for Circleville. You think about them growing up.
They never got to see this growing up. They had
to be this culture change and that's what they've done.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
And they've meant so much to this school over the
last four years.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
And hopefully we can talk to a few of them
after they get all of their pictures done here.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
So we'll take a quick break and we'll be.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Back here to continue our postgame show at Circleville High School.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
You're listening to the accurate.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Heating, cooling, and Plumbing game of the Night on ninety
four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Welcome back to Circleville High School.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
We are joined now by Riley Jenkins, a senior for
this Circleville Tigers team. Riley, you just did something that
hasn't been done here since nineteen eight.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
How does that feel?

Speaker 3 (07:01):
It feels amazing. That's been a long time coming.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Riley, you have a unique game. You can go inside,
you can go outside. You really like to shoot that
three and really got a smooth shot.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
But what is it like?

Speaker 4 (07:16):
You know, having a guy like Cole, you gotta be
ready for the ball at all times because you're gonna
get it, and you're you're always ready and you do
a great job.

Speaker 7 (07:26):
It's it's nice to haveing No to score on the team,
especially when I know he can score.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
I will.

Speaker 7 (07:30):
Yeah, It's it's a great feeling not being I have
to worry about that.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Your senior year.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
You guys are I believe nineteen wins right now in
the regular season again, something that circle all teams haven't
done in a long time. You know, two years ago,
coach Callahan gets the job, and I'm sure he came
in with the mentality, guys, we want to we want
to make this special and and here it is on
senior night.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
It's special for you.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
And yeah, he definitely we weren't waiting the opportunity, but
he was lab going after it and culture things.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
But you're ready.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Well you can check out box off league title.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
You got one more game to play in the regular season,
but then you start tournament.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
You number one seed.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
That puts you on top where everybody wants to come
out you now, but you get to go to the convo.
So that's something special to talk about that.

Speaker 7 (08:17):
Yeah, at the end of the season last years, since
he's been here, our number one.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Goal is to get to the convo.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
And it's pretty good feeling to get that experience.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
I actually play there for once.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Well, it's been a pleasure watching you. We're gonna continue
your tournament trail. We'll have every game you guys play,
so best luck in the tournament. Thank you, congratulations again tonight.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Thank you, congratulations, thank you. I think we're gonna get
Jack Klein in here next How you guys doing good.
How are you? Jack? Good? Good?

Speaker 4 (08:48):
I tell you what, Jack, You've had a heck of
a senior year so far. You had it on the
grid iron with coach Sheridan. Now with coach Callahan, you
get a Leite title here for the first time in
over forty years.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Talk about that, yeah.

Speaker 8 (08:59):
You know, especially with some been talking about since last
year when coach Callen came in. You know, we strive
to be perfect on the defensive end of the floor,
and it's easy when we have a bunch of guys
that are all bought in.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
And I mean, it's it's great seeing this. I haven't
seen that.

Speaker 8 (09:12):
I haven't won a league title personally, so it's great
to feel this.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
Well, it's it's something that a lot of people get
to do, and you make sure you enjoy it. But
I know you still got one more game to go.
But then you start to tournament. You're the number one
seat in the tournament. Everyone's gonna want to come after you.
But I tell you what, the way you guys play
and how close knit team you have, you guys got
something special going and talk about that.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
So yeah, we play really good. I mean, we're all
good friends.

Speaker 8 (09:37):
Outside of just on the court, like everyone's hanging out
with each other.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
We have a real tight knit bond together.

Speaker 8 (09:43):
So when we play in the district where we're not
afraid of anyone, we're we know that we're the better
team and we're gonna go out there and show it
every night. But I tell you what, Jack, one of
the things I've seen in your game, it seems like
the referees always want to call the foul on number five,
even though sometimes I'm like, how did they called that
on you, Cline, But for some reason they they want

(10:04):
to call it. But you do a great job and
you you never lose your cool, and that's something special you.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Got going on. Thank you. I appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
All right, Well, best luck in the tournament. We're gonna
watch you all the way through, will be at every
game you have, so best of luck.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Thanks, gratulations, congratulations.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Now we're gonna get cole Nungasker in here and uh
tell you what cole League title here at Circle High School,
something they haven't done a long time.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
That's gotta be a great feeling. It's awesome feeling.

Speaker 9 (10:31):
It's it's something when I first stepped foot in here
and Callahan got here that that was our gold day
one is bring the league championship here and it's been
a long time coming.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
But it's a great feeling.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Well, I tell you what, Cole, Once you get on
the basketball floor, it's one of those things as a
former coach, you know you've got a player out there
that just has a feel for the game and it's
a great thing. And you're not selfish. You get other
guys involved in. You make some plays that I go wow,
and I've seen some good plays. Uh, talk about what
you say out there on the floor.

Speaker 9 (11:01):
Yeah, I've always said I try to be like a
quarterback on the court. Well, one night it's twenty points,
one night it's tennis. This one night's ten rebounds, thank you.
So I just try to do it all. I mean,
whatever game calls for, I go out there and I'd
do my best. Then try to do a little place
because that's ultimately what wins championships. So I'm just proud
of our guys and how we came out here and played.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
Tell you what, your team has been tested this year.
You've faced some great teams you were able to beat
that Last Friday's.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Game was one of the best games.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
I've seen a great atmosphere and you and Blake Fitch
went right after each other, and that was just a
fun thing.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
It's gotta be fun this year.

Speaker 9 (11:34):
Yeah, it's been an awesome feeling, and I think one
of the most impressive things. At night like this, emotions
are high, crowd's going a little crazy, your parents are
sad and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
But I thought we figured it out there.

Speaker 9 (11:45):
We had our time and then once the tip off started,
we locked that out and just focused on winning the
basketball game. And that's tough to do, especially at this agent.
I'm just super proud of how.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
We played well. Cole.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
It's been a pleasure watching and I know my son
and I both enjoyed that. Best luck as you go forward.
Enjoy tonight, but we're going to see you the rest
of the way, So every game you play, we're.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Gonna be there. And it's been fun. Yeah, thank you.
I appreciate it. All right, guys, good night.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Tell you what Chris, You know, the three guys that
came over and spoke, the well spoken individuals, and you
can tell they really like each other and that that
you can see.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
That out on the floor.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Yeah, I mean, it just it speaks to this culture
that has been shifted here. I mean, forty six years,
with forty three years without a conference title. Something's got
to change, and it starts with the kids. And the
kids have to want it. And since coach Callahan got here,
he's preached to them that they've got to want it.
And you can tell these kids are just ecstatic that

(12:47):
all their.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Hard work has paid off.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah, so it's been a pleasure.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
I'm glad we came up here to see this atmosphere
here tonight. And hopefully we've got a lot of a
lot of basketball ahead of us and a lot of
great moments ahead as well.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Tournament action on the way.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
But before we get there, we got a big one
on Friday, the Unioda Sherman's take on the Miami Trace Panthers,
a game that really doesn't mean much as far as
anything but bragging rights. And those are two schools that
pride themselves on playing as hard as they can and.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Winning at all calls.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
And again they're both league champions in their respective league
c FAC for Miami Trace and the SBC for Unioto,
So we'll have league champions collide on the last game
of the regular season.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Well, that'll do it for us here at Circleville High School.
The Circleville Tigers are mid State League Buckeye champions, and
like I said, they are partying like it is nineteen
eighty three, back when you used to party.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Not me.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
I'll tell you what, I don't think very many of
the coaches on that staff were alive in eighty three.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
So maybe one coach.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Simms, But other than that, I don't think very many
we're alive back then.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Good times here and Circleville.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Well now I'll do it for coach, for myself, for
Sydney back in the studio, making us sound a lot
better than we actually are. We thank you all for
listening to the accurate heating, pooling, and plumbing Game of
