Speaker 1 (00:01):
My care at VA Memorial Stadium where the Huntington Huntsman
defeated the Southeastern Panthers in district final play and they
get to move on to the regionals next Wednesday. I
now have with me the head coach for the Southeastern Panthers,
Brad Valentine. Coach. You guys came out like fire today

(00:25):
starting your first roward batters, score the run, and you
guys had to been feeling pretty good.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, when we've been practicing and practicing to get off
to a hot start.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
We did.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
The only thing is we stopped afterwards. So credit credit
Warrior for settling in and just taking care of what
he needed to take care of. The huntings of ball club.
I mean, that's that's the first ball club I've seen
to ever hit Carson the way they did, So, you know,

(01:00):
shout out to them, man. They did well.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
And I thought Carson battled through some tough spots. Yes,
you know, I know they had been talking about his delivery,
I believe, and that sort of shakes you up a
little bit. But I thought he mentally made himself go
through that, and he was a very tough pitcher out
there on the MOUNTI battle for you.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yes, yes he did. Actually, the second time we played
out to Huntington, it was a two to one game
and he had him off with his slider. It looks
like they practice hit the slider. He couldn't throw his
slider like the way he usually did. So we were
just fastball, fastball, fastball, and you know what happens when

(01:42):
that's all we have is the fastball. So, like I said,
many they hit the ball really really really well.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah, they had some I thought some key hits too.
A couple bunts that really helped them out too. And
you know this time of year, you know those little
plays defensively, you really got to make sure you make
those plays.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yes, sir, yes, sir. We uh we practiced the bunt coverage,
We practiced our pitcher covering first, and uh we we
got the outs. But for some reason we started throwing
the ball around. That's that's not Southeastern baseball. That's that's
not what I coach. So, uh you know, I always

(02:20):
tell the kids, if something bad happens, just let it
go play for the next play. And you know it
just it didn't happen our way tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
So well, coach, I mean, your first year at Southeastern.
I thought you guys had a tremendous season. You were
a very tough team to play against, looking at your scores,
and here you come away with the district runner up,
You get a medal, and you get a troph for
you for your school.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
So absolute, yeah. Absolutely. Uh, last year we was able
to win the district and go to the regional finals. Uh,
you know, nothing to hang our head about. We had
a great season. We were very competitive, and you know
there's always tomorrow, so go yep.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Well, thank you for coming up and talking to us.
Congratulations on the successful season. We'll see on down the road.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
You're welcome. So coach Brad Valentine from the Southeastern Panthers,
we're gonna get coach Chad Carroll up here now. This
successful Huntsmen in their division or Division six regional title
here at the Via Memorial Stadium. But again, very gracious
in his time to come up here and talk about

(03:27):
his team, was Coach Valentine, and we really appreciate that.
Not the easiest thing to do, especially after a loss
at this level, but we thank him for coming up here.
And Coach Carroll making his way over here now and
we're gonna talk. We're going to talk to him about
his win here this evening again. Huntington moves on to

(03:52):
play next Wednesday at Lancaster against a team to be determined,
So that'll be win at two pm at Lancaster. Coach Carroll,
we appreciate you coming up here. Congratulations on a district
title for your team. I thought today your team really battled.
I got down early, but you came through here when

(04:13):
it needed to happen.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, it didn't look real good early on, not the
way we wanted to start. We're not really built to
come back like that. We're a lot of pressure situations,
run and stuff like that, and sometimes when you're down
that big, you can't really do those sort of things.
Sort of had to wait until we got build load
of momentum to start moving the ball around, bunning and
things like that. But we finally got it going.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
I thought after the first inning, I thought your picture, Oh,
you did a tremendous job of really settling in because
he was really shaken in that first inning. But his
resilience and it sort of shows your team and really
your school this year. Yeah, very resilient team.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Right. Well, I think a lot of people probably surprised
I didn't pull him in the first inning, but that's
why I didn't.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
He's pissed in.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
More big games, and you know double day. I mean,
he just he's been around forever and he just he
can throw the ball. So we stuck with him as
long as we could. He got close to one hundred,
and we got a fresh, big freshman down there that's
got a pretty live arm, so we trusted him to
come in there.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
At the end, all right, And Coach I thought you
guys offensively were very patient, especially you know, mcwarter is
a heck of a pitcher, and I thought you guys
were very patient, and you took the pitches you wanted
to hit off of him and made timely hits.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
And that's a benefit of playing a team for a
third time. They always say it's hard to beat a
team three times, but I don't know that. I believe that.
I don't think that's why we want. That's two very
very good teams. I give a lot of credit to
Southeastern the run they had last year. Coach Valentine does
a great job. But we practiced that a lot. What
we think we're going to see mindset, We work as

(05:49):
much on mindset, in the mental part of the game
as we do the physical, and I think that helped
us in those tight situations.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Talk about your your league, I mean you talk about
the SVC. There's a lot of quality teams in the SVC,
six and eight in the SEC.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
So you're you're the.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Fifth team in the SBC and you come and you're
the number one seed coming into this tournament because of
your record. But those league games have to prepare you
for situations like this. Yeah, the pitching we see night
in and night out and the SBC is second to none.
You know, that's why I think we were twelve and
one non league. You know, we had some big wins.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Against Wintsburg, Play Valley, these schools like that. You see
a lot of good pitching and it prepared us for tonight.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Well, you get to play next week into the regionals,
not knowing who you're playing yet. I believe they still
have some games yet to play, but you get to
play next Wednesday, and we're gonna follow you the rest
of the way. And it was a pleasure watching your
team today and we wish you nothing the best going forward.
Thanks all right, we appreciate you coming at me,
