Speaker 1 (00:01):
The following is a presentation of iHeartRadio Sports. This is
high School Baseball on ninety four Country WKKJA. Now from
behind home plate, here's little Postage.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Hello, and welcome to the Via Memorial Stadium here in Chillicothe, Ohio.
We've got tournament baseball action here for high school sports.
I'm Chris Postage, going alongside by my father, coach Loo Postage. Coach.
It's good to be here.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
It is wonderful to be here at the VA Memorial Stadium.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Again, a great facility here.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
But you know, it's just that time of year where
you get to the district finals in baseball and it's
just exciting. Everyone's excited to be here. Schools out. This
is really the only thing they have to do right now.
So both these teams very familiar with one another, being
from the same league, and so they played twice already.
I believe you have the outcomes of those games there, Chris.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yes, our matchup today, Southeastern coming in fifteen and eight overall,
nine and five, good enough for third place out of
the Sciota Valley Conference. Head coach brand Valentine Huntington seventeen
and nine on the season, six and eight inside of
Valley Conference play. That was good for fifth place. Their
head coach was Chad Carroll. Like you said, they met
(01:26):
twice this year already, Southeastern winning both games. Last game
coming on May the fourth, it was a pitching duel
of the matchup will see tonight between Carson mccorter and
Andrew Oyer. Southeastern won that game two to one. RBI
in that game came from CJ. Huff and Braden Burns
(01:47):
and from Huntington. The run batted end came from Troy McDonald.
The first matchup back on April seventeenth, was a nine
to three win from Southeastern. Kessler pitcher for Southeastern in
that game.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
So again, both these teams very familiar with one another.
Southeastern coming into this game is the winners of eight
out of ten, so they are on a roll. And
again they got a pitcher who's really good, Carson mcwater,
who is going to be pitching here tonight. This is
the time of year where you get a hot pitcher,
you can go for a long way. He went four
innings on Saturday in their win. That meant he can
(02:26):
come back tonight. He can actually go all seven if
he wants. So again that's a plus for Southeastern. On
the other hand, Huntington also a hot team, I believe,
winners of the seven of their last ten, and really
good non league schedule, and.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
They were really excelled in eleven.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
And one in the non league seventeen and nine overall,
and they too a great pitcher who's going here tonight
for them, that is their Ace Oyer and Andrew Oyer
is had a really good year pitching wise for them.
Looking at some of the stats for Oh Your he
(03:05):
is one eight to eight rora, so again sixty five
strike has twenty seven walks on the year. So this
is going to be probably that low scoring game you
talked about earlier, two to one type game because of
the really good pitching we have here tonight.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Both these teams played on Saturday. Luckily they were the
two afternoon games. With some morning showers, that day turned
out to be a nice day and both these teams
ended up rolling to victories. We look at Southeastern, they
beat Manchester six to one. Mc quarter pitched four innings
in that game. Gage cheatle two for three, run scored
(03:42):
and two batted in. For Huntington, it was a thirteen
to nothing win over sins Valley. Andrew oh your pitch.
Five innings allowed, four hits, one walk in seven k's
Manverick Hardesty was three for three with a double, two
runs and two stolen basiness as Alex Long two for three,
two runs scored and two runs batted in, so an
(04:04):
offensive explosion for Huntington Southeastern with a six to one
victory over Manchester. We'll take a quick break and be
back to the start of this contest. You're listening to
high school baseball here on ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 5 (04:18):

Speaker 11 (05:17):
In Hawaii ninety four Country w KKJ, Welcome back to
the VA.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Memorial Stadium here as we get set for tournament action
between Southeastern and Huntington, we'll look at some starters for
this afternoon's contest. First, for the home team, the Southeastern Panthers,
the third baseman CJ. Huff, the catcher Colton Baxter.
Speaker 12 (05:43):
Short stout Gage Cheetle, centerfielder Brayden Burns, pitcher Carson mccorter,
the second baseman Bryson Kessler, first baseman Landon Brown, left
field Landon Welch.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
And the DH Isaac Blake in the nine hole, and
again a team that topped the bottom. They can really
pretty much handle the bat pretty well and they can
get some production out of each and every one of
those guys down that line up.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Now for the visiting Huntington Huntsman batting first short stop
Frankie Hirsch, centerfield, Troy McDonald, third baseman, Tucker Hopkins, catcher
Landon Lowry, centerfielder Calvin Hirsch, second baseman, Maverick Hardesty, left
field Alex Long, the DH Andrew mcnight, and the pitcher
(06:40):
Andrew Oh.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
You're.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
And again another team that has really good balance up
and down the lineup, and they have really done a
good job, especially the seniors in the leaders. And you
talk about leaders, Frankie Hirsch being one of the leaders,
he's not a senior, but really stepping up and playing
a great role for this team. And again, both these
(07:06):
guys or both these teams love to be in this
spot here in the district finals. This is what benefits
some of the teams in the XVC when they go
to a seven division instead of four divisions as it
used to be. You get these teams that basically may
not be the top teams in the XVC, but they're
very good baseball teams and they get a chance to
(07:26):
play for a district title here today.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Southeastern looking to go back to back district titles. Last year,
they were led by their one duo punch of Gates
Cheetle and Carson McCord. Those two committed to play baseball
together at Ryo Grand next year.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Always good to see kids moving on to the next
level in their athletic careers, and we've seen many of
the people in our area go on to have some
good careers there at the next level, but they get
their start right here and get to play in a
fantastic setting like the VA Stadium here. And we've had
some rain here, a little shower activity, but here at
(08:03):
the VA you keep playing because of how well this
draining system on this all turf field.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Is first year head coach for Southeastern is Brad Valentine.
He was on the coaching staff last year and he
has led the Panthers to a fifteen and eight mark
this year and a chance for another district title.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
A guy who's been around baseball a long time and
he knows baseball very well, and he's excited to have
this opportunity to be a head coach, and he and
his team have excelled here in his first year.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
The Huntington Huntsman take the field first. Southeastern will be.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Yeah, Southeastern is actually the away team here. Huntington's the
number one seed in Division six, so they're the home team.
Southeastern the road team here in tonight's game.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
My apologies, I misspoke when I was reading the lineup.
I had it right on my sheet, but I just
said it wrong, so I apologize for that. We're here
at the beautiful VA Memorial Stadium, home of the Chillicothee Paints,
who is on the road today, opening Day in the
Prospect League. They're in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. I believe they'll be
back here in Chillicothe on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah, that's opening night for them, and that'll be exciting.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Here. We're going to have high school baseball up until Thursday.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
And then the Paints come in and take over.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
This is a doubleheader for us today here at the VA.
We will be broadcasting the following game between Logan Elm
and Wheelersburg.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
So double action for us. And then tomorrow we will
have another game here. A six point thirty start for
that game, and that'll be Zane Trace, the winners of
the SVC in a district final matchup with the Ironton Tigers.
So we'll be back tomorrow night right here at the.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
VA Memorial Stadium.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Hopefully, now I know we're gonna get a lot of
rain tomorrow, Hopefully it's nothing to where we can't play.
As long as it's not a torrential downpour and there's
no lightning or thunder, you can play here at the
VA Memorial Stadium.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
It takes a lot of rain to mess up this
artificial surface. Not that it wouldn't affect the game if
there was a lot of rain, but as long as
there's no lightning or thunder in the area, they usually
play the games here in Chillicovy. All right, we're all
set with the warm ups. The third baseman steps to
(10:40):
the plate for Southeastern CJ. Huff on the mound Andrew O. Yer.
We mentioned six and five on the year, sixty five
strikeouts at a one point eight eight ERA. Got a
good pitching matchup set for this one.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Yeah, Huff steps in here, betting three seventy seven here
on season.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Pitch from Oyer is going to be in the dirt.
Breaking ball be ball one two. Hough.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Now the temperature is not bad, probably low seventies, but
humidity is very high out here, so a lot of
moisture in the air.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Last time Huff faced Oyer, he was one for two
with an RBI and that two to one victory for
the Panthers. Ball two's gonna be low quickly, two to
oh count on, huff, Oh, you're out of the wind up.
It's gonna be another one that skips across the plate.
(11:40):
Three balls, no strikes now, CJ Huff.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Yeah, leadoff hit or way ahead here on the pitcher,
and we'll see if he's given the green Lighttery looks
like he's going to be taking here.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Oh your deliverers, and that's a strike, fastball over the
heart of the plate. Three to one now on the
third basement. Huff, Oh, you're quickly to the plate. Breaking
ball catches the inside part of the plate. Oh your
bottles back to a full count. Now, I's gonna call time.
(12:15):
Step out of the box, gather himself, get the signs
from coach Valentine. mPire says play, Oh, yours ready to go?
Delivers breaking ball? All right, it's right over the head
of Huff, and that'll be a walk to start this game.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Southeastern gets her lead off man on the base, and
we'll see if they try to get.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Some running going on.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Here as Baxter getting ready to come in here, Baxter batting, Colton,
Baxter batting three seventy two on.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
The Baxter stepping in. Now, Oh, you're's going to be
out of the stretch, checks over on Huff out first,
checks again and again, now delivers breaking ball, is gonna
go to the back stop, and Huff's gonna take second base.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Yeah, that's gonna go down as a wild pitch. Last
couple pitches have been high and inside.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
So far. Oh, you're having trouble with that breaking ball.
He's thrown a couple of strikes over the plate. It's fastballs,
but two breaking three breaking balls in the dirt to
Huff and two breaking balls that were well inside on
the batters.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Interesting to see if that humidity has a lot to
do with maybe the slippage of the ball out of
the hand.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Baxter step back, stepping in, now off on second. Oh,
your delivers out of this draft. Baxter's lines one in
the left field. Huff's gonna stay at third ball's loose
in the infield, Hopkins is gonna pick it up. It'll
be a base hit for Calton Baxter. Now we got
runners on the corner or no outs for the short
(13:54):
stop Gage Cheetle.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Yeah, that was a quick stop signed there by coach
Valentine at third base. It probably would have scored because
the ball got away the cutoff man. But didn't want
to take any chances here with no ounce here in
the top of the first you want to make sure
you get that run in.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
So runners at the corners here with no ouce. Alex
Long out in left field fielded it cleanly and quickly
got it in. It got past the shortstop persh. But
right there it was the third baseman Hopkins saving her run.
Oh you're delivered to Cheetle. That's in the dirt. Good
play behind the plate by Lowry. Saved a run there
for the Huntsman. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
And again going back to coach Valentine putting up that stop, saying,
when you got a guy coming up that's betting four
ninety two, you've got a lot of confidence in him.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
The corners are in for the Huntsman. Double play DMP
for the middle infielders oh, you're sets out of the
stretch deliverers, and that's gonna be a strike on the
outside corner. A good location on the fastball there. One
on one, the count to Gauge Cheetle, Oh you're checks
(15:05):
it first and delivers fastball lined in the center under
it is McDonald. It's gonna drop. Touff comes across the plate,
Baxter safe at second. One run for the Panthers here
in the first inning.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Yeah, that ball was holding up there, and it looked
like maybe the center fielder was gonna be able to
make it, but it's just a long way to come
to get that ball and he just couldn't get there.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
So the runner had to hold it first.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
And as the runner at third did two and that
ball fell in.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
There for Gage Cheetle.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Now coming to the plate, Brayden burns and he quickly
lines the.
Speaker 13 (15:43):
First pitch into left field. That's gonna drop for a
Bay's hit. Valentine's sending the runner from third. We got
to play at the plate.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
No. Hurst bawls down and he holds on to it.
Speaker 13 (15:55):
Wisely, another run combs across the plate for Southeastern.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Yeah, I think initially because Valentine was going to hold
him up there at third, but the ball sort of
slipped away from the center fielder and that's why he
sent him.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
A lot of slippages so far what we've seen. Baxter
initially fell down as he was given the stop sign,
but then coach Valentine sent him. He got up and
he ran across the plate. No out's here in the
top of the first two runs so far for the Panthers.
We got runners on second and third. Carson mccorter coming
(16:31):
to the plate. Now, first pitch, he's swinging hop fly
into right field under it is hearst Calvin Hurst and
they're sending the runner from third.
Speaker 13 (16:40):
It was cut off. No play at the plate. Another
run across for the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, I'll go down as a sacrifice RBI there for mckward.
And again a good job there by our Calvin Hursch
in right field of making that catch. He had a
nice throw online, but again the cutoff just couldn't handle
the ball there.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Second baseman Bryce and Kessler stepping in now for the Panthers.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Kessler betting three twenty nine on the year.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
On that sacrifice, Cheetah was able to go from second
to third. Now one out in the inning. Three runs
across for the Panthers, laying down the bunch. That's Kessler.
Speaker 13 (17:26):
No play at the plate from over here, and he's
going to be safe at first.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Another run there, and again that's just where the pitcher
didn't realize where all the runners were. He had plenty
of time to get him at home, but he looked
the first and didn't look back to home. He wasn't
able to get anyone the mentalware there. Four runs across
and the top of the first. Now for the Panthers,
(17:53):
first baseman Landon Brown stepping in.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
You're huntington here.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
You just got a steady yourself and start getting some
outs here.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Oh, your delivers breaking ball high and inside. It seems
like he's really struggling with holding onto the baseball. He's
wiping his hand on his leg, trying to get the
moisture off his hand. As I said, it's very humid
out here, and you can definitely feel it if you're
(18:23):
just sitting here that the moisture is around. One ball,
no strikes to land in Brown, Castler on first, Oh,
you're checks it first. Now deliver swinging strike.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Wand and then Brown botting two sixty three on the year.
Going back to that last one, that was a great
bunp by Kessler. One ball, one strike, Brown Lines, one
up the middle. That'll be a base hit Kestler the
(18:56):
second base. Brad Valentine, you are happy with the way
this game is starting for the Southeastern Panthers and his
Panthers are taking advantage of when that ball is right
there over the plate of getting hits.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
The left fielder landing, Welch stepping in for the Panthers.
Now one out here and the top of the first.
Runners on second and first. Four runs across so far
for the Panthers. First pitch to Welch is going to
be a strike on the outside part of the plate.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Got the corner, infielders playing in middle, infielders playing a
little bit in as well.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Wel square. The bunt missed on that attempt, so that'll
be strike too. No balls, two strikes, one out here
and the top of the first.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Yeah, if there's a bun happening here, if you're Huntington,
you got to make sure you know what play you
have on here and get at least an out.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
You know, two pitches outside, that'll be a ball. One
ball to strikes the left fielder land in Welch Kessler
on second, Brown on first, Oh, you're out of the stretch,
checks on Kessler now delivers swinging strike three second out
(20:18):
of the inning.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
There's a big strikeout there for Oh, you're in the
Huntington Huntsman.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
The nine hold editor. Now the dh Isaac blake two
outs here in the top of the first runners on
first and second. Oh your delivers line shot into left
field over to play. It is long and he's going
to end the inning for the Huntsman. Nine runners came
to the plate in that inning. Nine four of them
(20:49):
came across the score. We'll take a quick break. You're
listening to high school baseball here on ninety four country WKKJ.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
It springs right around the court at Sherwood Auto and
Camper Sales in Hillsboro, Ohio. Right now, all remaining twenty
twenty four and twenty twenty five travel trailers are discounted

Remember if the best deal on wheels of Southern high

I guarantee if.
Speaker 11 (21:28):
Ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
Welcome back to the VA Memorial Stadium. As we head
to the bottom of the first year after a Southeastern
played at four runs in the top half of the
first on four hits, we'll see Carson McCord take the
mound for the Panthers, one of the best we have
in this area. Eight and three overall this year, eighty
(21:54):
five strikeouts and a one point three two er.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Like I said, he pitched four innings on Saturday and
that win in their district. Semis and very good imposing
figure there on the mound is he can really bring
it a little bit of you know, different wind up.
I guess almost like the ball was comes out of
his hand a little differently, and I wonder if that
(22:21):
is what the batters have trouble trying to pick up.
But nonetheless, he has proven that he is a good pitcher,
and he's done so in a really good league.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
It's got a really imposing fastball, touches about mid eighties,
and then he'll break it off with breaking balls around
sixties mid sixties. So really good change of pace pitcher,
but really able to burn it by him with the fastball.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Yeah, we'll see if he had the same problem there
as O. You're as far as gripping the baseball here
in this humidity.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Leading off for Huntington. It'll be the shortstop Frankie Hurt.
Frankie one of those three sport athletes for Huntington, quarterback
in football when they're leaders in basketball, now doing it
here on the baseball diamond.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Yeah, probably one of the best athletes in our league
in the three sports that you see, the three main sports.
And he's only a junior, batting three to ninety two
on the year. It's got seventeen stolen bases as well,
so he's a threat once he gets on.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
First. Was one for three on Saturday, scored two runs
and came up with an RBI. First pitch from a
quarter fastball on the outside of the play. That'll be
ball one. First time to play for the Huntsman, find
(23:51):
them in a four run hole. Second pitch is tip foul,
out of play even to count at one.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Yeah, speed pitch there and Hirst tried to wait on it,
but it was out in front.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
A little bit.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
The one to one from mcquarter breaking ball chopped up
the left side, picked up by the third basement, huff
over to first. Nice in time, Really nice job there
by Brown of making that scoop at first pase land
in Brown. Now coming to the plate for Huntington, the
(24:27):
center fielder Troy McDonald.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Again.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
McDonald batting four to ninety four on the season. He
has twenty eight stoolen bases, so again, pig time threat
if he was able to get himself on.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
First pitch, breaking ball outside of the plate. Troy was
a bright spot last time they played mccorter and the Panthers.
He was three for four with a double and the
lone RBI for Huntington in that game.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
And McDonald's only a sophomore.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Troy was one for three on Saturday, scored two runs
and played it two and they're thirteen to zero win
over Sims Valley. A quarter sets for the one to
zero fastball for strike.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
They were caught right there on the outside corner and
it was coming with some velocity.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
One ball, one strike one out here in the bottom
of the first from a quarter out of the wind up,
breaking balls high in his own tip foul out of
play there by McDonald.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Yeah, that was a little high. And McDonald basically his
eyes lit up when he saw that slow breaking ball
coming and this wasn't able to make a good contact
with it.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
One ball, two strikes. Quarter starts his wind up now
delivers fastball low on the zone. That'll be a ball, too.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Boy, when he comes back with that fastball after a
slow curveball, it's a big difference.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
The two two shop to the short stop. Cheetle makes
the play, delivers the first nice scoop Land and Brown.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
They're making land and work over there, but he's up
to the challenge.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Two ounce now now batting for Huntington, the third baseman,
Tucker Hopkins. Tucker's only a freshman, batting three ten good
size in the box for the young freshman. A quarter
(26:36):
delivers breaking ball, kisses the outside of the plate for a.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Strike and in fact take up three freshmen on this team, Hardesty,
hersh and Hopkins.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Quick lee back mcquarter. Another breaking ball, this one on
the inside, and that'll be a ball. One ball, one strike,
two ounce. Here in the bottom of the first Southeastern
on top of Huntington four to nothing.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
The two seniors on this Huntington team, Oh you're in Davis.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Order. Just reared back and burn one by him on
that one one ball, two strikes. Now the one two
called strike three, one two three, inning four of the Panthers.
We'll be back for the top of the second. You're
listening to high school baseball in ninety four Country WKKJJ, Ben.
Speaker 14 (27:30):
Doug, there's nowhere I wouldn't go to help someone customize
and save on car insurance with Liberty Mutual, even if
it means sitting front row at a comedy show.
Speaker 7 (27:39):

Speaker 2 (27:41):

Ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Welcome back to the VA Memorial Stadium. Coming up here
in the top of the second. The lineup's gonna turn
over for Southeastern, as they had all nine batters come
to the plate in the first inning. Where they scored
four runs on four hits. So the leadoff man in
the second will be CJ. Huff.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yeah, that first inning very profitable for Southeastern and they'd
love to see a carbon copy of that. But well,
I tell you what, you come out here in the
district final and you put four on the board in
the first inning, that makes you feel real good. And
if you're the pitcher. We saw their mcwarter. He really
took that to heart and he loved to see those
(28:45):
crooked numbers on that board. It's gonna be tough for
Huntington to get some numbers up there against mcwarter.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
I think the message from coach Valentine that first inning
was be aggressive early. A couple of times a couple
of their hits came on their first pits from Oyer
and it was with success for the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Yeah, their hits were not blue pits by any means.
They were hard to hit balls and they did a
good job of running the base pats as well.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Huff stands in for the Panthers, drew a walk in
his first at bat, came around to score. Oh you're
out of the line, fastball inside partner Blaye. That'll be
a strike.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Really nice crowd out here at Via Memorial Stadium. Both
these teams pretty close to the area here v a
Memorial Stadium.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
So BO one was a swinging strike on the breaking
ball from Oyer quickly an O two hole for CJ. Huff,
Oh you're gets the sign now starts his wind up,
breaking ball in the dirt. I'll be ball one. Good
(30:10):
looking pits, but good discipline by Huff to lay off
the curveball. Oh your Delivers. Fastball splapped into the left
center gap and that'll be a base hit for Huff.
McDonald cuts it off and holds him to just a single.
(30:32):
A nice piece of hitting there by.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
CJ's Yeah, when that ball took off, I thought that's
in the gap and it could get to the wall,
but McDonald did a good job of getting over and cutting.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
It off hold him to a single.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
But again another solid hit for Southeastern.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
That is hit number five Golden Baxter sticking in for
the Panthers. Oh your Delivers, breaking ball chopped on the
second base. Hirst runs over tax second himself and he
won't have a play at first, so they'll just get
the one. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
I think that's a case where he just wanted to
make sure he got it out there. So Hurst did
a good thing and just running over at tag the
base themselves and not try to make a throw to
get that out.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
So good job.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Shortstop Gage Cheetle stepping in once again here for the Panthers.
One out, bottom of the sorry, top of the second.
Colton Baxter on first, first pitches in the dirt. That'll
be a ball.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
Job everybody, Lowry keeping that in front of him, not
allowing the runner to go from first to second.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Oh, you're gathers himself. Now gets back on the rubber,
gets the sign out of the stretch, checks over at first.
Now delivers fastball sky to the right side. Looks like
it's gonna be on in foul territory the right field
or Hers had a chance to make a play on it,
but unable to bring it in.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Well again, he's making that run over there near the fence,
and you know the fence is coming, and you're trying
to focus on the ball, and I think every last
minute he sort of saw some things that may have
been the home plates down there in the bullpen, but
something just startled him and took his attention away from
the ball.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
One ball one strike to Cheetle. Oh, your checks a
first now delivers Cheetle smacks it and it goes hold
tween the legs of the second basement and in the
right field moving on to third. That was Baxter. Cheetle's
(32:46):
going to be at first base on the air from
the second basement.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Yeah, off the bat there, that looks like that could
have been a double play.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
But the ball goes right.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
In between the second baseman's legs right into the field.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
So that's going to be an air.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Gotta make that play there, at least get the one out.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Runners on first and third for of the Panthers, one
out here in the top of the second, or you're
trying to get a dry ball. Seems like he's really
been struggling so far with the moisture. Had a slight
down for here right before this game, and it's been
(33:30):
a hot day, so there's a lot of humidity in
the air as well.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Oh, you're burns.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
It past burns and we gotta steal a second. And
it looked like the runner came off the bag Cheetle
and then her supply the tack.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
That was a great throw down there by the catcher.
Lowry again You have to make a decision on those things.
What are you gonna do if the runner takes off
or you're gonna throw down, you're gonna hold it, You're
gonna throw it to the pitcher.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
And again they decided to throw down to get the out.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Got stealing was cheetle. Two outs here in the top
of the second, Burns standing in, breaking ball in the dirt,
even the count at one. Oh, it looks like Lowry's
shaking up here behind the plate. Don't know if he
got a pellet in the eye or something. It looks
like he's picking him at his face there.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Yeah, the umpire walking the ball out to the picture,
trying to give him some time to get himself right there.
But you're right, there's there is a lot of black
rubber pellets that are on this field, especially in the
base path areas and at home plate, and again with
the stickiness of the weather, definitely get your one up
(34:44):
around the eye.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
One ball, one strike to the center field or Burns, Oh,
you're out of the stretch, delivers now Burns it right
by Burns.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
That was a really good pitch right there.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Two strikes, two outs here, top of the second, Southeastern
on top foard to nothing. Oh your delivers swinging skide
into left field, long coming up to make a play
on it, and he secures it, and that'll be the
final out of the inning. Runner made it the third,
(35:20):
but never got him across home plate. So as we
go to the bottom of the second, Southeastern on top
four to nothing and you're listening to high school baseball
here on ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 15 (35:33):
Start your day with Quicker protein insin oatmeal. The insin

Quicker bring out the good.
Speaker 11 (36:02):
The Scioto Valley's home for today's Country ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Welcome back to the Via Memorial Stadium here for District
final action between Southeastern and Huntington. Southeastern's on top of
Huntington ford to nothing. As we go to the bottom
of the second, Southeastern able to get base runners once
again didn't get any across in that inning. Good job
from oh year two shut down the leadoff man that
(36:32):
got on base.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Yeah, they got the guy caught stealing there going to second.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
That really helped out.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
And again South or Huntington's got to get something going offensively.
Three up, three down in any number one. And mcwarter
done a really good job there in that first any
of controlling his pitches and controlling things how they went
from the mountain three.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Up, three down in the first inning for Huntington, leaning
off will be the catcher land in Lowry followed by
Calvin Hirsch and Maverick Rdisty.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Definitely want to thank everyone here involved at the VA
Memorial Stadium, the tournament director Chat Jenkins for I'm making
sure we're taking care of and John Bruce and all
the people here at the VIA Memorial Stadium, making sure.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
That we have our spot, beautiful spot up.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Here in the press box and we are well taken
care of, very comfortable up here, nice chairs. We've even
got a fan over there. We've got the open air
in front of us, all right. The Panthers take their positions.
Mc quarter steps up to the mound. We LinkedIn at
(37:52):
the plate finding themselves in a four to zero hole
here in a lot of in the second, it's like
we got to stop.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
It here for some reason.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
The third base umpire.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Oh, okay, we got a guy warming up down in
the bullpenn and we need to have somebody down there
to watch over them. So one of the players from
Huntington's going to make his way down there with the
glove to make sure no ball comes their way.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
All right, the umpire calls mc quarter into play. Out
of the wind up first pitch skied into center field
and coming all the way and to make the play
on it is Burns for the first out of the inning.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Again, that was just a little bit up in the
air and allowed the centerfielder to make a move in
there and get that ball caught.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Now the right fielder, Calvin Hurst stepping in for the
Huntsmen quarter first pitch breaking ball outside. That'll be a
Calvin Hurst won for three with a triple and two
RBIs and their win over Sims Valley on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
They're one of the free three freshmen for this Huntington team.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
Hirst batting two to eighty on the year.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Second pits finds the outside of the zone that'll be
strike one, one on one to Calvin Hurst. That's bits
is lined in the right field. That'll be a base
hit for hers.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
A nice piece of hitting there and able to fight
it off and get it out in the right field
there and their first base runner of the day.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Hurst was one of the Huntsmen to have success from
the quarter first time this year. The first time they
faced him, he was two for two. Now coming to
the play the second baseman Maverick Hardesty.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
So MC quarter from the stretch for the first time
here today.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Quarters checks on Hurst. Now step off the rubber.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
Reset Calvin hursch with eight stolen bases on the year.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
Maverick Hardest d three for three with a double, scored
twice and stole two bases on Saturday's win at Simms Valley.
MC quarter checks on burst over at first, able to
get back in Hardisty batting two to eighty six on
the year. The quarter checks it first. Now delivers fastball
(40:30):
chop to the left side. That's going to be just
outside the left the third base bad gonna be a
foul ball.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Yeah, that was going to be a tough play by
the third basement there all chopping really high and fortunately for.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Southeastern A ball state foul tough playing in at third.
The ball's one strike the hardest, ea breaking ball finally
had a lot of movement on it. Fooled Hardesty in it,
but it found its way back into the zone. That's
a strike.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
Yeah, he ducked his head big time and that ball
just came right into the catcher's Mittenmire said, sir, that's
gonna be a strike.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
No ball's two strikes. I'm a quarter pick off play
the first hursts back in time.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
Tell you what if you can get some guys with
some incredible breaking balls, don't make you look FOOLI shut
the play guarantee I'd be ducking out of there.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
No balls, two strikes. Huff backs off at third. Now
I'm a quarter again, pick off play at first. Hursh
back in there, and.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
In the major leagues you wouldn't be able to throw
over anymore. He's reached his limit.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
A quarter out of the stretch, checks over at first,
checks again, now delivers fastball. Tip foul off the grand
stand back into play hardest. He stays alive here two
one out here in the bottom of the second.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
A nice thing about the grand stands. You got to
roof over top of your head here, So if it's
sprinkling a little bit, you're still okay up.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Here, artist. He calls time. Now at the plate. No
ball's two strikes, one out here at the top of
the second Southeastern on top of Huntington Ford or nothing
here in the district finals, curveballs swinging, strike three, the
lake steel running and he's caught in a rundown and
(42:40):
he's tagged out by Cheeto. And that's how the inning's
got to end.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
Wow, So strike out and throw them out to in
the inning.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
Well, take a quick break. You're listening to high school
baseball here on ninety four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Welcome back here to the Viva Memorial Stadium. We've got
district final action between Southeastern and Huntington. As we go
to the third inning, Southeastern's on top of the Huntsman
four to nothing.
Speaker 4 (43:51):
So again a reminder.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Tomorrow night we'll be right back here at Va Memorial
Stadium with the Zane Trace Pioneers against the Ironton Tigers
for a Division five District final matchup. And again after
this game, we will have the Logan Elm Braves in
a district final matchup against the Wheelersburg Pirates.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Leading off. For the Southeastern Panthers to start the third inning,
it'll be the pitcher mcquarter followed by Kesseler and Brown,
base winners in both innings so far for the Panthers,
they've jumped on, Oh you're early. Huntington did have somebody
warming up in the bottom half of the second there,
(44:42):
but it will be oh your start the third inning.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
Mcwarter coming to play here at a sacrifice hit here
in the first inning with an RBI.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Oh you're out of the wind up. First pitch to mcquarter,
breaking ball in the dirt. That'll be a ball. The
(45:23):
one to mcquarter breaking ball, that one swung on and missed.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
I thought that baby was coming right down Broadway and
it took a big turn.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Earlier this year, mccorter was two for three with a
scored run against Oh You're back in the two to
one win on May the fourth. That pitch from Oh
You're catches the outside corner. That'll be strike to one ball,
two strikes, no outs here in the top of the third.
(46:04):
One two swung on hit to the third basement, bobbles it,
picks it up and throws out in the quarter at first.
Nice play there, buy Hopkins over at third to gather
it on the bobble and deliver it over to Smith
at first base.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
You had a nice job of keeping his calm about
him and just staying right with it. He knocked it down,
kept it in front of him. That was the key
to that whole thing.
Speaker 2 (46:32):
Rice and Kessler the second basement stepping in for southeastern. Now,
Oh You're out of the wind up delivers swinging strike
from Kessler. No balls, one strike, one out here, top
of the third, Oh You're breaking ball in the dirt
(46:55):
evens the count at one four nothing. The Panthers lead
in the third inning of the district final matchup. Oh,
your breaking ball catches the outside part of the plate
for a strike one ball, two strikes now on Bryson Kessler.
(47:22):
Oh you're quickly to the plate, breaking ball swung on
him this strike three.
Speaker 3 (47:26):
Yeah, really good job there of Oh your nice pitch
sequence there and getting another strikeouts.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
Definitely felt like, Oh, you're got his groove going on
that at bat. See if he can get going again.
The first basement landed Brown stepping in two outs here
in the top of the third, Oh you're the wind
up fastball burns it by a landing Brown strike long.
Speaker 4 (47:58):
Yeah, he was really late on that there.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Oh you're again strike swinging to Brown.
Speaker 3 (48:10):
Oh, you're in a groove right now. He gets that ball.
He's right back onto the mound and ready to go
with it quickly. Oh, ball's two strikes to land the Brown.
Two outs here and the top of the third, Oh
you're the ball was in the dirt, went all the
way to the back south. That'll be ball one. It's
(48:37):
like they got the grill fired up down there in
the left field line.
Speaker 2 (48:43):
Oh you're breaking ball strike three. Nice ending there from
Oh you're three up, three downs for the Panthers. We
head to the bottom of the third, Panthers on top
of the Huntsman four to nothing. You're listening to high
school baseball here on ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 8 (49:03):

Speaker 11 (49:32):
Ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 2 (49:37):
Welcome back to the beautiful VA Memorial Stadium. Here District
final action between Southeastern and Huntington. As we head to
the bottom of the third, Southeastern's on top of Huntington
four to nothing. All four runs came in the top
of the first for Southeastern, where they had four hits
(49:58):
and brought nine batters to the plate. Huntington's still looking
to get going. They had their first hit in the
second inning there, but I strike them out, throw them out,
made it a one two three inning for the Huntsmen.
Speaker 3 (50:13):
Yeah, so the Quarter's only faced the minimum about of
batters here, as he's only facing his seventh batter here
in the bottom of the third, so he's been in
a groove himself. But yeah, that last any know, you're
really settled down and showed exactly how good of a
pitcher he is.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Alex Long, the left field are leading off for the
Huntsmen in the bottom of the third. Long was two
for three, scored two runs, and plaited two RBIs for
Huntington on Saturday and they're win over Sims Valley. In
his one matchup with mc quarter this year, he was
one for two, scored a run and had a stolen base.
(51:00):
First pitch inside on Long be ball one.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
Definitely need base runners here if you're Huntington, try to
get something across the plate here.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
Second pitch swung online in the center field and that'll
drop for a base hit for Long.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
Maybe this Huntington dugout is listening down there exactly what
they needed. Get a guy on a base now again.
They got one on last inning, but he was thrown
out trying to steal. So can gotta get something gold.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Along with a stolen base against mcquarter in their last matchup.
Andrew McKnight stepping in for Huntington, mcquarter checks over first,
gets by the first basement, and Long is gonna make
it the second as Oats tracks that one down out
in right field. So that's a free pass for Huntington.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
Yeah, if you're Southeastern, you definitely don't want to jump
start innings for them by giving them free passes.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
McKnight the d H stepping in brown way in at
first base now protecting against that bunt. Mcquarter checks on second.
Now deliver it's fastball. That'll be a strike.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
And if you're mcwater, you just got to focus here
on the batter. That runner out there at second base
means nothing to you.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
You gotta just focus on the batter.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
Quarter checks on long checks again now once again delivers
mcnice bunt to the bunt mcquarter comes over to play it.
His play at first is gonna get McKnight, but he
does his job and gets long over the third base.
Now that bump was really good.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
It sort of died right there at home plate, but
the picture came all the way in to cover it
to McKnight almost cut himself on base.
Speaker 2 (53:06):
The pitcher Andrew, Oh, you're stepping in for a Huntington
runner on third quarter out of the stretch, looking to bunt,
and it's going to be caught by mcwarter for the out.
Speaker 3 (53:22):
Now, nice play there, My mcquarter getting off the mound,
quickly fell to his knees to make that catch. But
he was able to get it and get nice idea there.
But you got to get that ball on the ground
to give yourself a chance.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
Lineup's going to turn over now for the huntsman, frankie
Hurst stepping in two outs runner on.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
Third If you're hunting and you gotta find a way
to get that runner down here and get him across
that plate.
Speaker 2 (53:50):
Mc quarter gets the sign come set out of the stretch,
delivers fastball across the plate for a strike.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
He brought some heat on that one.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
No balls, one strike, two outs here in the bottom
of the third, hirsh at the plate, long on third,
breaking ball sitting right back up the middle. That'll be
a base hit and long we'll come across the score.
Two out RBI for Frankie Hurts.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
Yeah, what a great job of hitting there by Hirsch
basically read that there was going to be a breaking
ball coming and he was able to wait on it,
and he took it right back up the middle to
get a base hit and get that RBI.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
Linketon cuts into the Southeastern lead for one. Now, Troy
McDonald stepping into the plate for Huntington. A quarter throws
over to hersh at first, he's able to get back
in safely.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
I would have to say that probably close to eight
or nine throwovers we've seen here by mc quarter.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
He's got another.
Speaker 2 (55:04):
One, another one. Hurst back in again. Quarterback on the mound,
gets the sign, comes set checks on. Hirst now delivers
of the play breaking ball outside of the zone. Now
it'll be a ball gets stopped there by Baxter.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
That was a great stop by Baxter. That ball gets
the backstop. That could have been an easy pass. Quarter
now stepping off the rubber.
Speaker 2 (55:41):
I think he missed the sign there from the catcher
just telling him he wants to recycle him. Now, I'm
a quarter comes, set checks on Hirst at first. Now
delivers breaking ball in the right field, another base hit
for Nington man the throw Wick throw into second place
nearly got a hearst on the force.
Speaker 3 (56:04):
Yeah, Hurst was taking his time getting down there. He
didn't speed up a little bit, and that could have
been a force out.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
A second rice heads up played by Oats there in
right field to quickly get that in. But now with
two outs we got a runner on first and second.
Tucker Hopkins steck into the plate for Huntington. A bit
of a two out rally now for Huntington.
Speaker 3 (56:28):
That's what they needed. They needed that first run across.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
A quarter comes, set checks that second now delivers home
bastball low.
Speaker 3 (56:39):
It'll be a ball the second time through the lineup
here for Huntington against mcwarters. So they're getting a little
bit more comfortable in the batter's box.
Speaker 2 (56:51):
One ball, no strikes to Hopkins. Breaking ball turned on
and hit high into left field. Going back to ford
Is welts and hops off the wall. One run coming
around to score.
Speaker 13 (57:03):
Two runs come into score and we've got a one
run ball game.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
Two run, two out double from Tucker Hopkins.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
While that ball was hit a long way, that thing
shot up in the air and I didn't think it
was going to go that far because of alhiot went
so soon. But that dog ball just carried and carried
and carried all the way out for the fence. Hopkins
was waiting on that breaking ball and he turned on it.
(57:32):
It's almost like right now, they're waiting for that breaking ball.
They know how well that fastball is. They're just waiting
for that breaking ball to sit on it and try
to drive it somewhere. So this is a big two
out rally. Now they've got three runs with two outs.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
And in Lowry's checking in now first pitch strike from
the fastball from the quarter Again.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
This all started, as I said, when they gave him
a free passed it on the second base with the
leadoff guy when they threw it away and sacrifice flying
by McKnight and or sacrifice bunt by McKnight, almost another bunt,
and then we've had three solid hits.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
Mcquarter comes set Jackson. Hopkins now delivers home swinging bound
tip coop there behind the catcher or the second strike
one ball two strikes, two outs. Here in the bottom
of the third inning, I.
Speaker 4 (58:31):
Think, if you're mcwarter, you gotta come with the heat here.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
Again, hying run on second base, A quarter delivers shop
to the left side, coming up to make the plays.
The third baseman huff and he delivers over to first
for the owl, and that's how the ending will end.
Good one for the Huntsmen. They called back into this one.
Three runs, five hits in that inning. You're listening to
(58:54):
high school baseball on ninety four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
Welcome back to the Via Memorial Stadium District Final action
between Southeastern and Huntington. As we go to the fourth inning,
it is Southeastern four, Huntington three. A good bottom half
the third inning for Huntington as Alex Long started off
getting on base, then he moved over on the air
(59:57):
by mcquarter and a bunted him to two outs. Calvin
Hirst came up big with the first RBI, but then
it was Tucker Hopkins with the two out, two run
RBI to make this a run, one run ball game.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
Yeah, really good job there of Huntington of making the
most of their a little two out rally there and
getting themselves right back in the game.
Speaker 4 (01:00:18):
And as we saw with that last inning.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
If Oger stays the course here and keeps going, is
gonna be tough for Southeastern to get any more runs.
So big ending there for Huntington to get themselves right
back into this ballgame.
Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
It'll be the eight.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
Nine to one hitters to come to the plate for Southeastern.
Leading off will be the left fielder land In Welch Andrew, Oh,
you're back on the mound for the Huntsmen. What's now
a one run ball game as we head to the
fourth inning.
Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
Winter this game will play next week. I believe it's
next Wednesday at Lancaster and trying to figure out who
that would be as far as who they would play,
and trying to look through some of the brackets.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Here we've got a doubleheader tonight. Next game will be
Logan Elm and Wheelersburg battling for a district title. Then
we'll be back here tomorrow as the SB champion Zane
Trace Pioneers to continue on their tournament run. Left fielder
(01:01:40):
land In Welkes the left. He's standing in for Southeastern. Oh,
you're who seemed to got into a groove there in
the third inning. Looks to get things going again here
in the fourth, Oh, you're out of the wind up
delivers and that's going to be a vault can be
just low, I mean outside part of the plate.
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
It's like the winner of this game will probably take
on the winner of Liberty Union and Mechanicsburg.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
Breaking ball that's going to be outside for.
Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
Ball two, those two teams coming out of the Central District.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
The two oh to Welch bastball catches the inside part
of the plate for a strike two balls one strike, Oh,
your deliverers, this ball's in the dirt. That'll be ball
three three.
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
One how you're trying to do some maintenance out there
on the mountain. Again, the mound is part of the
artificial surface, so no dirt there as well.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Ohier gathers himself. Now gets the sign from Lowry. Now
believers shot to the right side, and that's going to
be picked off there by Hardesty at second base. Waltz
put a ride into it, but right and the right
spot was Hardesty. First out of the inning. Now stepping
(01:03:25):
to the plate for Southeastern's the designated hitter, Isaac Blake.
Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
They flied out to the left fielder in the first
inning to end that first inning, the profitable first inning
for Southeastern where they got their four runs.
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
Oh here gets the sign, starts as wind up, blow
and outside ball one.
Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
Oh here takes a little walk around the mountain there.
Oh your steps on the rubber. Now gets the sign,
starts as wind up and delivers shot up the middle.
Hurst there to make a play over the first base
(01:04:20):
for the second out of the inning. Yeah, you're really
settled down here. He has retired the last seven guys
he's faced.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Wind up, gonna turn over now for the Panthers with
two ounce here in the fourth inning, third basement CJ.
Huff standing in. Oh, your delivers breaking ball, cuts back
into the zone for a strike. Oh, you're definitely doing
(01:05:01):
a better job with his breaking ball. Now. He had
some control issues in the first with it. Now it
seems like things are drying up for him.
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
I think they want somebody, like one of the other
umpires to see if he went around, But no one asked,
and umpire down first base is just standing there like
no one's asked me.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
One ball, one strike too tough. Oh, you're breaking ball,
shot in the center, high fly ball. McDonald's under it,
and that'll be the third out of the inning. Three up,
three down, once again for Huntington. We head to the
(01:05:45):
bottom of the fourth with Southeastern on top of Huntington
four to three. You're listening to high school baseball here
on ninety four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
Welcome back to the VA Memorial Stadium for District final
action between Southeastern and Huntington. As we head to the
bottom of the fourth, Southeastern's on top of Huntington four
to three. Coach, it was all Southeastern early playing four
runs in the first inning, but ever since, oh yours
got the momentum on the mound, and it seems like
(01:06:51):
Huntington's got the momentum at the plate.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Yeah, oh yours put down the last eight batters he's faced,
so done a much better job there, and then he's
sort of getting a he of how things are going.
And tell you what, it's interesting. Both coaches have talked
to the home played umpire about certain things, and right
now the home played umpire is downer talking to coach
Carol from Huntington about something. So I'm not sure if
(01:07:16):
there's something going on with the front base pass or
the pitcher or what, but sort of a really animated
conversation down there right now. Chad, Carol not exactly happy,
and coach Valentine has sort of stepped out.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
There to see if he needs to walk.
Speaker 4 (01:07:38):
Down there and see what's going on.
Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
The third base umpire is I don't know if coach
Carroll's been thrown out or.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
What. Here five six, seven come to the plant for
Huntington in the top I'm sorry. The bottom of the
fourth inning, right fielder Cavin Hirst looking to step in
Gott Huntington going with their first hit of the game
(01:08:17):
back in the second inning.
Speaker 3 (01:08:20):
Don't play DUMPI or had a little conversation here with
Coat Valentine.
Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
Quak.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Valentine's now walks away, So not exactly sure what happened there,
but uh, nonetheless, we're back to play.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Quarter out of the wind up fastball, that's a stride.
Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
Hirsch had a base hit to right field his last
time up, but got out.
Speaker 4 (01:08:44):
Caught stealing.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
One. Oh to Hirst, breaking ball show right to the
third basement, Huff line out. Alvin h Hurst put a
right into that one. That one looked like a sure double,
but Huff was right on the spot.
Speaker 4 (01:09:10):
Yeah, he put a ride in that one.
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Now coming to the plate, Maverick Hardest Steve for Huntington.
First pitch mcquarter that's gonna be high and outside, one ball,
no strikes, one out here in the bottom of the
fourth one run game here in the district finals, Southeastern
on top of Huntington, mcquarter delivers a fastball yin out
(01:09:41):
to play there by hardesty, the one ball, one strike,
the hardest. He's gonna call time, step out of the box.
(01:10:03):
We had some more.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
Movement down here in the Huntington area as far as
the bullpens, so we'll see if we get a pitching
change happening here.
Speaker 2 (01:10:13):
I'm a quarter with the one one fastball, swinging strike,
one ball, two strikes. It's the hardest eat the wind
up and the pitch fastball foul back out of play
(01:10:37):
remains a one two count. A quarter gets a sign
from Baxter, starts to wind up, breaking ball outside ball two,
evens it up at two and two two balls, two strikes.
(01:11:07):
Maverick Hardesty Parson mcquarter on the mound starts to wind up,
delivers breaking ball chopped onto the shortstop, cheetle over the
first in the dirt, nice scoop there by landon Brown.
Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
You're seeing Brown MC a few of those here today.
He's done a great job of that.
Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
Second out of the inning. Stepping in now for Huntington,
Alex Long, he got the party going for Huntington, came
around to score in their three run third inning.
Speaker 4 (01:11:46):
Yeah, he got the second base hit for Huntington.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
He was able to get on base and get the
second on a thrown there by the pitcher trying to
make a pickoff, and he scored the first run.
Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
Fastball on the inside of the party plate for strike one.
Now fastball in the outside part of the plate for
strike two, an O two haul quickly for Alex Long.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
Yep, he went inside outside and see if he goes
right down the middle of this.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
Time a quarter starts to wind up, delivers fastball chomp
to the right side. Browndon jumps up to make the
play and put out Long for the final out of
the inning. At the end of four, it's Southeastern four
Huntington three. You're listening to high school baseball in ninety
(01:12:35):
four Country w KKJ. Steve Weave got this.
Speaker 9 (01:12:57):
In the moments that truly matter. What do we do
rise to the occasion, Ohio Health, It's time ninety.
Speaker 11 (01:13:07):
Four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 2 (01:13:12):
Welcome back to the VA Memorial stadium as we head
to the fifth inning here a Southeastern on top of
Huntington four to three here in the district finals.
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
I think all of that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
Questioning was about the picture and what he was doing
out there on the mountin as far as mcwarter, Jack
Carroll's still in the ballgame, he just again questioned I
think how mcwarter what he was doing on the mound,
whether it be a movement, a Balk type movement or
something like that. But again, I think that's what all
(01:13:48):
that fuss was about.
Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
Leading off the top half of the fifth for Southeastern.
Believe that'll be the catcher and Baxter the Baxter cheetle
and Burns the heart of the order for Southeastern.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
Yeah, we've had a couple of times where we've seen
people warming up in the Huntington bullpen, but they're staying.
Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
With Oger here.
Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
Oh, Youers really found his groove outter that tough first inning.
It seems like he's got more command of his breaking
ball and he's placed his fastball a lot better. Southeastern
on top four to three as we get the fifth
innings started here in District final action between Southeastern and
(01:14:42):
Huntington SBCFOS meeting here in the district final.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
I believe last year Southeastern able to get a district title.
Last year in baseball, he was able to get to
the regionals. So they've been here before and they'd like
to get another one here today.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
Oh you're with the wind up, delivers fastball that'll be
low for ball one second pitch is going to be
in the dirt. Ball to two balls, two strikes. We
(01:15:26):
catcher a Colton Baxter. Yeah, Baxter one for two here
this afternoon. He had a base hitting the first scored
and had a fielder's choice grounded into a fielder's choice
in his second any Oh you're with the wind up,
deliver is foul straight back out to play there by Baxter.
Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
And fell in the parking lot without harming anything out there.
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
Two balls, one strike to extra here, no out's in
the top of the fifth. Southeastern on top of Huntington,
five to four. Both teams will five hit so far
too airs for Huntington, one air for Southeastern. The one
two dribbled to the left side. Third baseman Hopkins gobbles it,
(01:16:20):
picks it up and throws out Baxter at first base.
It's a second time here tonight for Hopkins down to
third base, knocking the ball down first. That's the main
thing you gotta do, not let it get by you.
And he stayed with it and was able to get
that throw home plate umpire running down to the third
base umpire. Here again a lot of conversations about these
(01:16:42):
umpires now coming to the plate for Southeastern will be
the short stump gage Cheetle, I'm not sure what the
conversation is now.
Speaker 3 (01:16:59):
I don't need It wasn't the wrong batter. It wasn't.
Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
I believe it the motions they were making there was
some sort of batter interference maybe so the not exactly sure,
but it looked like it was something that way where
it was he either tossed his bat I didn't see it,
or something that may have feared with the play. So
(01:17:28):
I think it was just a warning and cuts up
back to play. Oh you're out of the line up?
Check swing was tip Oh wow wow.
Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
I think if you're hunting in there, you want to
come and make that play because that would.
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Have been an easy out for you. But he waited.
It went down the first baseline and it was it
took a couple of hops on the line there and
then Smith came up and let it come to him,
and it was in found territory.
Speaker 3 (01:17:57):
So when you got a guy who's batting four ninety
two and he gets a shot like that, you got
a chance to get him out. I think you gotta
get him out. No ball's one strike, one out each
t do want to play? Breaking ball drops into the
zone for a strike. No ball's two strikes. Oh you're
(01:18:26):
out of the wind up, fastball in the dirt, that'll
be ball one. Oh your delivers chopped on dribbler up
the right side. Oh, you're to make the playoff. And
(01:18:46):
he throws it over.
Speaker 2 (01:18:47):
The first baseman's head, and now we're gonna get an
interference call. They're gonna say he ran out of the baseline, so.
Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
They're gonna call the batter out for interfering with the
throw down.
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
To first base. I don't know about that call there.
Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
They're saying he came inside that white line. There's two
white lines going down the first baseline that's supposed to
be your base path, and they're going to say he
was inside the foul line, and that's going to cause
the interference.
Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
They do put that line there, but the rule is
the runner creates his own base pass. So for a
right handed hitter coming across the baseline there, he's entitled
to a straight line to the bag, which I think
he was there. But the call is the call. It's
two outs for Southeastern. Now that was the first base
(01:19:46):
umpire's call. Now stepping to the plate for Southeastern will
be the center for center fielder Brayden Burns. Two outs
here in the But the fifth inning.
Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
Yeah, that could have been a big thing for Southeastern.
Having a guy on second with only one out.
Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
First pits the Burns breaking ball in the zone for
a strike instead.
Speaker 4 (01:20:17):
That's the second out of the inning.
Speaker 3 (01:20:20):
Put a little star next to that one.
Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
That breaking ball outside the zone evens the count at
one ball, one strike one one. That breaking ball catch
the outside of the plate, one ball, two strikes the
Burns now.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
Burns one for two on the afternoon.
Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
Oh, you're swinging strike three from Burns man. That's how
the town for the fifth. Well, then we'll go to
the bottom, Huntington trailing Southeastern by one. You're listening to
high school baseball on ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 19 (01:21:11):
iHeartRadio goes one on one with Eric Church to discuss
how he intentionally cuts songs to sound live.
Speaker 4 (01:21:17):
We did that.
Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
We cut that that way. I mean, we're in a
room staring at each other.
Speaker 20 (01:21:20):
There's a lot of people that go in and you
know that outro on the Outsiders it's a minute long
and it's nuts musically, it's three different movements. But we
didn't plan that.
Speaker 5 (01:21:28):
You know.
Speaker 20 (01:21:28):
We got in there and started playing and somebody said,
I got an idea here, this could work here, and.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
We just kept playing and kept playing, and then we
listened back to it and we.
Speaker 19 (01:21:35):
Went keep listening to iHeartRadio for more Eric Church and
all your favorite artists.
Speaker 11 (01:21:41):
The Scioto Valley's home for today's Country ninety four Country WKKJ.
Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
Welcome back to the VA Memorial Stadium. As we head
to the bottom of the fifth inning here in the
district final matchup between Southstern and Huntington, the Panthers are
on time four to three, all four runs, four of
the Panthers coming in the first inning. Southeastern Huntington with
a big third inning played at three runs and now
(01:22:13):
it's a one run ball games.
Speaker 4 (01:22:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
The first four guys for Southeastern here this afternoon all
scored and that's all they've had so far.
Speaker 4 (01:22:23):
Oh, you'res really settled.
Speaker 3 (01:22:24):
Down on the mound and has gotten the Southeastern players
off again that last ending, very difficult play there. They're
still discussing that as far as how that went to
Cook Valentine down the first baseline talking in first base umpire.
But again that interference called by the umpire there on
(01:22:50):
Cheetah as he was running down first base, that ball
got thrown away by the pitcher. Cheetah would have been
on second base with one out for Southeastern. So that
is a big play, big call in this game here
is you know, you look back on this, you're going
to wonder is that run the run? But right now
Southeastern in the lead at four to three, their hope
(01:23:14):
is that doesn't come to fruition and then it's not
the case. But both pitchers really settled down here and
mcwarter after that one anywhere he gave up the three
runs on two outs, came back in that last and
he was able to get them one, two, three.
Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
So we'll see how this goes.
Speaker 2 (01:23:39):
Leading off the inning for Huntington will be the designated
hitter Andrew McKnight. Back on the mound for Southeastern, Carson mcquarter.
Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
There's been a lot of conversations in this game, whether
it be coaches, umpires, umpires, umpires, umpires, players.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
First pitch to McKnight, that's going to be a fastball
high in his zone for a ball. Unlike professional sports
that they don't relay information up to us in the boost,
so we don't really know what's going on. One ball,
no strikes, McKnight quarter steps off the mound, now back on,
(01:24:28):
gets the wind up fastball chopped to the right side,
and that's just out of the diving Jeff Kessler play
at first and he's going to be saved. Yep Oates
came up quickly on that one and tried to make
a play at first when McKnight got down the line
just in time.
Speaker 3 (01:24:47):
Yeah, he wasn't playing very deep there in right field,
and he came and charged the ball and was able
to get a throw off and McKnight able to get
the first base before that happened.
Speaker 2 (01:25:00):
Batter of the inning on for Huntington, Andrew Oh, you're
now to play for Huntington lays down a bunt up
the right side. It looks like it's gonna stay fair
and there's no play.
Speaker 3 (01:25:13):
What a nice bunt there by, Oh, you're right down
the first baseline. The first baseman did not decide to
come and get the ball until too late, and he
came to get it and he just runner had already
passed him. There's nothing he could do, and no one
was covering perfectly placed bunt there by. Oh you're now
it's first and second, no ouse for Huntington, and the
(01:25:36):
lineup's gonna turn over for the shortstop Frankie Hurts. Now,
that's one of the difficult things, is how are you
gonna play the bunt? And uh, you know, you don't
see the bunt very much anymore in Major league baseball,
but in high school baseball you see it a lot,
and that's something you've got to practice, so you know
each time who's gonna be where. The second baseman did
(01:25:57):
not cover the bag there, so first baseman didn't have
anyone to.
Speaker 2 (01:26:03):
Throw to first pitch the hearst found off for a
strike no balls, one strike, no outs here or Huntington
in the bottom of the fifth, trailing by one quarter
pitch in the dirt, good stopped by Baxter, keeping runners
on second first.
Speaker 3 (01:26:24):
Again, It's like the first baseman thinks another bump maybe
coming third basement playing back deep.
Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
My quarter are gonna fix his laces there on the mound,
get set Hurst stepping back in. McKnight on second. Oh
you're on first, no outs here, ground playing in at
(01:26:57):
first gives oh, you're a sizeable lead at first. Mcquarter
is gonna throw away, throw it into center field and
McKnight's gonna move to third, and oh, you'res moving up
to second.
Speaker 3 (01:27:15):
Get another air there by Southeastern enables Runners to move forward.
Speaker 2 (01:27:24):
Now runners on second and third, no outs. Frankie Hurst
out the plate, one ball, one strike, a quarter out
of the stretch, delivers breaking ball, fout straight back, two
strikes on Hurst. Now now all the infield playing in
here for Southeastern, trying to take away that run, dying
(01:27:48):
run just ninety feet away. Four Huntington.
Speaker 3 (01:27:52):
Mc quarter could really help himself here with a strikeout.
Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
The one two quarter delivers fastball strike three.
Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
They got them looking there.
Speaker 3 (01:28:12):
That was a good fastball right down the middle and
that's a big strikeout. See looks like they're going to
keep the infield in here for Southeastern. With one out
now batting for Huntington, the center fielder Troy McDonald, Runners
on second and third. One out here in the bottom
of the fifth huntingson trails by just one run. Donald
(01:28:37):
one for two here on the afternoon, he had a
single his last time up, came around to score.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Donald calls time, steps out of the box, corners infield
in for southeastern quarter out of the stretch, fastball out
straight back out of play. The balls one strike to McDonald,
(01:29:09):
big opportunity for Huntington, tying run on third, go ahead
run on second. Bottom of the fifth inning, one out
for Troy McDonald. Mc quarter fires fastball on the outside
part of the plate for strike two.
Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
Yeah, way in front here.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
See if he tries to go to the breaking ball
or if he sticks with that fastball. Huntington's done a
great job waiting on that breaking ball, so I thinking
stay with.
Speaker 4 (01:29:40):
The fast ball. Here a quarter set.
Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
Fires home fastball high in his own was tipped foul
out of play. Remains zero to two.
Speaker 3 (01:30:04):
Well here you go. This is gonna be another big
pitch here in this game. Way ahead of the batter.
You only have one out, runners at second and thirdy
or four to three ball.
Speaker 2 (01:30:14):
Game enfield playing in Troy McDonald at the plate for
Huntington and we get time calling at the plate once again.
Speaker 4 (01:30:33):
Getting hit him four ninety four on the season.
Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
As McDonald donald steps back in, mccorter comes set on
the mound, checks on the runners, now delivers home fastball
show foul, just past head coach Brad Valentine, who thought
about reaching out and trying to make a play on
that one, but wisely pulled back. Yes, that ball had
some heat on it.
Speaker 3 (01:30:58):
In case you didn't hear that thud, that's what that
ball was.
Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
We'll do the O two once more. One out here
in the bottom of the fins. Runners on second and
third for Huntington, tying run on third, go ahead run
on second, two to Troy mctroy McDonald. Mc quarters set
fires fastball high in his own and that'll be the
first ball.
Speaker 3 (01:31:23):
Yeah, I couldn't get him to chase that one wisely
for McDonald holding it up.
Speaker 21 (01:31:32):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:31:36):
The quarter now with two strikeouts or three strikeouts on
the afternoon, he'd love to have his fourth.
Speaker 2 (01:31:45):
The one two to McDonald quarter comes set now, he
steps off the back of the rubber. Looks like he
had some mix up there with the catcher Baxter on
the signal where he just wants to reset one ball,
two strikes. The quarter comes set now delivers breaking ball
(01:32:13):
that'll be high and outside. Even's the gown at two
balls and two strikes.
Speaker 4 (01:32:24):
Things getting a little lot exciting here.
Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
Tying run McKnight on third, go ahead run, Oh you're
on second. Mcquarter delivers fastball found straight back out of
play by McDonald, It's a good at bat for him
after he battled down from twould say this is the
eighth or ninth pitch of this in.
Speaker 4 (01:32:49):
Starting to see.
Speaker 3 (01:32:50):
Some of the crowded teams file in for Game two tonight.
As we see Logan home entering the facilities.
Speaker 4 (01:32:59):
Here we get.
Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
Time once again and both pitcher and batter understand what's
at stake with this at bat. A quarter comes set,
the two to two breaking ball outside accounts full.
Speaker 3 (01:33:21):
Like his bat has gone on forever here and now
we finally reach the full count and one out.
Speaker 2 (01:33:28):
Great job by Troy McDonald to get this count full
runners on second and third, full count, one out. The
quarter delivers fastball found straight back and out of play
once again. What the battle we have between these two
(01:33:49):
for this at bat?
Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
Yeah, he's definitely making mcwarter work here. In the fifth
inding of a very humid afternoon.
Speaker 4 (01:34:03):
Here a quarter comes set.
Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
Three to two, breaking ball hitting by to the left field.
That's gonna one to.
Speaker 13 (01:34:20):
Hop off the world to run score for Huntington. McDonald
coming into the third to run triple.
Speaker 3 (01:34:30):
My balls got away from home plate and he's gonna
stay on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (01:34:39):
And I think some players on the field there for Huntington,
and fortunately that does not cause any issues, but the
umpire telling them to get back. What a shot by
Troy McDonald. Our Huntsmen are on top now fine four
(01:35:00):
here in the district finals. Two run triple from Troy McDonald,
and he battled back from O two. Say that was
a twelve pitch at bat and he hammered one to
left field, well over the head of Welch and plates
two runs with one out here in the fifth.
Speaker 4 (01:35:20):
Yeah, and now I tell you what.
Speaker 3 (01:35:22):
He was flying around those bases easily making it into
third base. And again we're getting any discussion about players
coming in to play there for Southeastern. Here, you've got
to limit the damage here. You're only down one run here,
you got a runner at third. You want to limit that.
(01:35:44):
Now we've got time. I'm sure what's going on here?
The guy first base. Coaches come running in to talk to.
Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
The dugout the Empire selling I've already did that, all right.
Stepping to the plate for Huntington now with the lead,
the third baseman Tucker Hopkins. Troy McDonald's standing on third base.
(01:36:21):
Mc quarter gets the sign from Baxter talking about big hits.
Speaker 3 (01:36:28):
Tucker Hopkins had his, and the last time I've had
a big hit to run double.
Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Quarter coming set now delivers home fastball, chopped right back
to mcquarter. He makes the play at home and they've
got McDonald nice heads up playing from mcquarter there get
the second out of the inning.
Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
Yeah, McDonald tried to elude that one, but to no avail.
So good job of cutting down on the runner at home.
And now you got to run around first with two
outs if you're southeast, landon.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
Lowry and the catcher standing in now for Huntington. Two
outs here in the bottom of the fifth, Hopkins over
at first. The quarter comes set deliver's home fastball found
up the right side, out of play. Some dark clouds
(01:37:30):
rolling in now. I'm not sure if there's some moisture
coming with it or not.
Speaker 3 (01:37:35):
Now the lights have been on all afternoon here at
the VA Memorial Stadium, so no worries. But Chris going
back to that last but I'm not sure you send
the runner there. That ball did not get very far
and the quarter is right in front of the Pitchers mountains.
I think you try to make him make a play
at first.
Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
Quarter checks over at first, Hopkins back in safely, no
one to Lowry, and Baxter is trying to pick off
Hopkins at first and it goes into right field, Hopkins
making the turnaround second, goes into third, and mental mistake
(01:38:20):
by the Panthers puts another run in prime scoring position
for Huntington again. First baseman was not ready for that ball,
and they've had a couple of balls thrown away where
they've just given free passes to Huntington runners, and Coach
Valentine's going out to try to settle everyone down here
(01:38:41):
right now.
Speaker 4 (01:38:41):
But you know you're playing a game.
Speaker 3 (01:38:45):
Here where two teams probably evenly matched. You just can't
continue to give them free passes and try to keep
them from scoring. And now you got a guy all
the way back at third, so you have two outs
and guy on first, and now you just go right
back to the situation you had before. Now, fortunately you
(01:39:06):
have two outs here, so you just got to make
up play and get it out. You don't necessarily have
to have your infield in here, but again you just
cannot give free passes.
Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
After the meeting at the mound. For Southeastern, we'll have
a runner on third with two ounce a one to
one count. Two Land and Lowry a quarter working out
of the wind up. Now with the runner on third,
gets the sign from Baxter, now begins the wind up,
(01:39:41):
delivers home that's chopped into right field, and that's gonna
be down for a base hit and an RBI for
Land and Lowery.
Speaker 3 (01:39:49):
Good job, Eric, going right with the pitch, taking it
out the right field and getting that run in.
Speaker 4 (01:39:54):
So again you start.
Speaker 3 (01:39:56):
That run there because that is a valuable insurance run.
Add on to a one run lead. Make it two, two.
Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
Run lead for Huntington. Now six' four two outs here
in the fifth. Inning now we're having another conversation of.
Umpires it's between the second base umpire and the first base, umpire.
Speaker 3 (01:40:36):
And we've had some rain go all around. Us, chris
nothing right. Overhead it's sort of all as you look
out there to the right field line and past the
right field. Friends it looks like there's some rain out that,
way but nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
Here looks like it's starting to make it way. Here
now you can kind of see some moisture coming. In
no explanation on that matchup or meeting between the, umpires
So i'm not sure what was, said but two outs
now standing in For Huntington's Calvin.
Speaker 3 (01:41:13):
Hirsch, yeah this has been a weird flow game, here
a lot of, stoppage a lot of timeouts, called a
lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:41:25):
Conferences quarter delivers strike wand to. HERS i can definitely
see the rain coming. Down.
Speaker 3 (01:41:36):
Now it's start to see some of the people sitting
in the outside bleachers either getting an umbrella out or
coming for cover underneath The.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
If You're, southeastern You're john want to get out of
this half of the. Inning Put huntington in the field
with the, rain or delivers home that ball was fouled
back By, Hers so now no ball's two strikes and
the rain is just.
Speaker 3 (01:42:07):
Amplified, yeah the interest is see how long they allow
this to. GO i think the umpires hoping to maybe
get an out here and.
Speaker 2 (01:42:18):
Then maybe hold him in the. Dugouts quarter breaking off
back gets by the basement hub and that's going to
go out to left. Field welch is there and he
relays it, in but the runner makes it into, third two,
out double For Calvin. Hurst two for three on the
afternoon is hirsh runners in scoring position once again For
(01:42:41):
huntington here in the fifth, inning see the second. Basement
maverick Hardest e stepping in now For. Huntington two outs
here in the botto the fifth they called a balk
(01:43:07):
and then sure they, did so that's gonna play another
run For. Huntington that'll Move Calvin hurs from second base
to third. Base and again that may go all the
way back to a couple of innings ago as Coach
carroll was talking about the pitching and what he was
(01:43:31):
doing on the, mound and that ends up getting themselves
a run there seven to. Four huntington leads now a
quarter reared back and through that one just by artisty
one now, fastball that one's high outside of the.
Speaker 3 (01:43:54):
Zone four runs here in this ending to Give huntington
a seven four.
Speaker 4 (01:44:00):
Lead AND i think they're going to call the.
Speaker 3 (01:44:03):
Game here because of the rain right, now so we're
going to get a rain.
Speaker 2 (01:44:08):
Delay in the bottom of the fifth, inning a big
inning For huntington may've taken the lead seven to four
here in the district. Finals we'll take a break and
be back here from THE Va Memorial. Stadium you're listening
to high school tournament baseball here on ninety Four COUNTRY.

Speaker 2 (01:47:38):
Country welcome back here to THE Vaa Memorial. Stadium we've
Gotten district final action Between southeastern And huntington here in
the bottom of the fifth inning with two. Outs we've
got a rain. Delay just it just kept intensifying and,
(01:47:59):
intensive and there are sheets of rain coming down right.
Speaker 4 (01:48:02):
Now, yeah and.
Speaker 3 (01:48:04):
Again the nice thing about this is going to be.
This it's seven to four right. Now huntington has come
and taking the lead here in this. Inning but once
this rain clears, out and looking at the, radar it
looks like it's going to clear out here. Soon this
field to be ready to play very. Soon they're not
going to have to go out there and do anything to.
(01:48:25):
It our artificial surface, there all artificial service will be
playable very, soon so we will probably be.
Speaker 4 (01:48:35):
At least fifteen to twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:48:36):
Minutes so what we're going to do now is we're
going to step away and we'll have some music being,
playing and we'll come back in about fifteen minutes or
so and give you an update of what's going. On
so you're listening to high school district final baseball here
on ninety Four country W.
Speaker 2 (01:48:54):
Kkj welcome back here to THE Va Memorial. Stadium we've
got district final action Between southeastern And. Huntington we were
currently in a weather delay as we had a lot
of rain move into the, area but it looks like
that as hall passed now and both teams are making
(01:49:15):
their way out of the, dugout it would appear that
they're going to both be allowed to warm, up as
we probably sat in there for a ten minute. Delay
so no official word yet on what time this one's
going to get, started BUT i believe we're going to
be given sufficient time to warm.
Speaker 3 (01:49:34):
Up, yeah and, again as we, said the facilities here
at the BE A Memorial stadium just. Fantastic and they
walked around and they there were some areas out there
that had some water still, standing but it's going to
drain very, fast and by the time these little warm
up time period is, over we're going to be ready to.
(01:49:54):
Go so that's a great thing about a facility like.
This you, know you play anywhere else where there's know
dirt or sand in the, infield it would take them
a while to get that ready to.
Speaker 4 (01:50:04):
Go but here at THE, va we're ready to. Go
here after.
Speaker 3 (01:50:08):
About a good minute ten minute the rain that came
straight down and tell you, what everyone.
Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
Headed for cover here at THE. Va so.
Speaker 3 (01:50:19):
But you, know just to sort of wrap or sort
of where we are.
Speaker 4 (01:50:24):
To set things up here, Again.
Speaker 3 (01:50:27):
Southeastern came to bat first and they ended up getting four
runs in the first.
Speaker 2 (01:50:33):
Inning first four batters they had.
Speaker 3 (01:50:39):
As WHERE i thought maybe we'd get a time, there
but they came to bat or came up in the
first inning and the first four batters, scored so they
had a four to nothing lead as they went to
the bottom of the First huntington did not. Score second,
inning neither team, scored and we came to the third
and that's Where huntington finally got their first run.
Speaker 4 (01:50:58):
Across and again.
Speaker 3 (01:50:59):
It was a big two out hit For huntington that
got those two more. Runs that made it four to,
three and that two out hit Was Tucker hopkins came,
around so that was four to. Three as we went
to the fourth, inning neither team. Scored top of the,
Fifth southeastern went down, one, two, three And huntington here
(01:51:20):
in the top of the, fifth now they were able
to now push across four. Runs the first guy came,
up he got a base. Hit as a matter of,
fact the first two guys got base, hits and then
they were able to get out of it and basically
ended up having two. Outs but Now huntington has been
(01:51:44):
able to scratch across four runs here in This any
two airs By southeastern in this ending, alone one by
the pitcher and one by the catcher has made some
things difficult For. Southeastern as we stand right, now we
have a guy on third base with two. Outs Calvin
hirsch had a two run double and then he was
(01:52:09):
able to go to our one run double and he
was able to go to third on a, balk so
that brought across the fourth. Run So hirsch will be
at third base with two outs here in the, inning
and as we stand it is seven to three Now
huntington Over. Southeastern as we still are awaiting the top
(01:52:33):
of the fifth to.
Speaker 4 (01:52:34):
Be over or the bottom of the fifth to be.
Speaker 2 (01:52:37):
Over, YEAH i think it was a slow start For,
huntington especially the pitcher Oh, year but especially in that second,
inning you started to see him get into a groove
and and then he started mowing down The southeastern batters
(01:53:03):
and the offense followed him once he got into his.
Groove and they've really taken control of this one since
the first. Inning, well, again it's eleven straight batters That
oyre has basically been able to retire in a, row
eleven straight batters For, ohyre And southeastern has not gotten
(01:53:24):
anything really across since that first. Ending now looking, back
they have not had a base runner since that second.
Inning but, again they almost had the guy on, first
but the ball was run. Away it would have been
a runner on second base with one, out but they
had a call for a run interference on, that and
(01:53:47):
that's so far unable to make anything happen. There so
they're allowing both pitchers and it looks like Oh you're
and mcwarter are going to be the ones that are
going to stay in this. Game they're allowing them to
do some warm up tosses in the. Bullpen both teams
out there throwing things around, here AND i would say
we are very close to getting back to baseball. Here
(01:54:10):
what you start to question is the pitching mcquarter was
on the mound once the delay went into, Effect so
it's been about twelve minutes for him, Now but that
was a long half inning For southeastern at the, bat
so it's been a good while, since oh you're has
been on the. Mound so they really want to get
(01:54:31):
their guys, fresh and it looks like they're going back
to their starters as we get this one ramps back.
Speaker 3 (01:54:38):
Up, Yeah and the big thing that you really have
to take into account here is you're going to have
a guy on third, base so you cannot have any
pass balls or anything like. That and so you talk
about maybe some of the, conditions the wet conditions that
are out. There you, know the catcher is very important.
Here you've got to make sure you stop everything and
don't let that runner come in from third on any
(01:55:01):
pass ball or wild.
Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
Pitch and is the thing about this artificial, surface it
can get very slick once that rain comes. In most
of these athletes will have the grip's shoes on with
the spikes that will dig into, it but it also
makes the ball slide a little bit. Faster, yeah and
(01:55:22):
again you got to make sure you keep the ball.
Dry you get a new ball in, there and very
important here as you get late in this, game you
don't want something like that to be the reason why
you may win our losy game of this. Magnitude talk
about some other things that are coming up. Here AS i,
(01:55:44):
said we are going to have a second game here,
tonight supposed to start at six point. Thirty it may
get pushed back a little, bit but that's going to
be the Logan Elm braves versus The Wheelersburg pirates in
A i believe that Is division four district final here later,
on this is A division six district. Final we will
(01:56:07):
have a game tomorrow night that'll be a district. Final i'm,
sorry that's a district semi final tomorrow. Night that Is
Zane trace Versus ironton here from THE ba at six.
Thirty so district semi final tomorrow For Zane trace Against
ironton the winner of that game will move on to
the district final On. Thursday, Now thursday's game will not
(01:56:31):
be here at THE.
Speaker 4 (01:56:31):
Va that'll be At Ohio.
Speaker 3 (01:56:33):
University that'll be a quick turnaround for whatever team wins that,
game because that game is going to be a two
pm start On thursday AT. Ou, now If Zane trace
would happen to win that game, tomorrow we will cover
that game On, Thursday So, chris get ready for another
quick turnaround for. Baseball so, again if that's the, case
(01:56:55):
we will be back On thursday two pm from OU's
Renz stadium down. There and then the winner of this
game will be playing Next wednesday At lancaster and we

him that could be three or even more, SO.

Wkkj welcome back to The Via Memorial, stadium where the
final here in the district championship onnked in on top
Of southeastern from the score five seven two. Five it
Was southeastern early in the first, inning scoring four. Runs
(02:34:03):
Then Andrew oyer on the mound got things going and
shut them out the rest of the, way and a
big fourth inning From huntington put them on top in this.
One go over to, Coach we'll got some stats here
from this.
Speaker 3 (02:34:18):
One, yeah as you, said started off there in the first,
inning a big first inning For, southeastern put four runs
on the, board led four to, nothing and again it
was the top of the.
Speaker 4 (02:34:28):
Order you had a base on.
Speaker 2 (02:34:29):
Balls fourths or three singles in a, row and then
you got AN rbi hit By Gage, CHEETLE rbi By Braden,
BURNS rbi by, mcwarter and again they were ahead four
to nothing after one. Inning as you, Said huntington had
three runs in the third, inning added four in the,
fifth one run For southeastern in the, seventh and that
(02:34:53):
is our scoring seven to, five year winning For.
Speaker 4 (02:34:56):
Huntington looking at some of the.
Speaker 3 (02:34:57):
Other, Stats huntington had seven runs on ten hits in two.
Airs southeastern five runs on eight hits and three.
Speaker 2 (02:35:05):
Airs mcwarter went to distance For, southeastern pitched all six,
innings gave up ten, hits seven, runs had four, strikeouts
did not walk a.
Speaker 3 (02:35:14):
Batter very good outing by, mcwarter but just couldn't get
the timely outs when they needed, to especially.
Speaker 4 (02:35:22):
Back there in that fifth.
Speaker 2 (02:35:24):
Inning looking At, Huntington oh you're win six and a
third inning here. Tonight eight, hits five runs he is
attributed to, him had six strikeouts and one. Walk on the,
Evening hopkins came, in pitched the last two thirds of an,
inning had one, strikeout and got again the last two
outs of this. Ballgame going back to runners left on,
(02:35:49):
base For huntington they had three runners left on, base
and For southeastern they ended up leaving six runners on.
Base so when you talk about missed, Opportunities huntington made
the most of that and that's why they came out
with a seven to five. Winner, yeah a real resilient
(02:36:10):
bunch here For huntington to come back and win this.
One being in a four to zero hole before you
even stepped to the play is a daunting task and
many teams would just crumble from that. Point but you
got to give them, credits, especially oh you're on the.
MOUND i, mean he didn't seem like he had much
command of his breaking ball there in the first, inning
(02:36:31):
but he locked in in the second and was pretty
much perfect from that point. On di'd give up that
one run in the final, inning but a resilient bunch
to come back from that four depth.
Speaker 3 (02:36:44):
Sad, Yeah and again when you look at some of
the other factors, Here troy McDonald two for three on
the evening two, RBIs and again he ended up scoring
one of the seven runs here, Tonight so when you look,
offensively he's probably one of the stars.
Speaker 4 (02:37:00):
Of the game For huntington.
Speaker 3 (02:37:02):
Offensively but again they had timely hits when they needed,
to and they were able to scratch across some runs
playing good baseball and many times making those bunts very
profitable for.
Speaker 2 (02:37:16):
Him as the trophy festivities go on, here both teams
