Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is high school basketball on ninety four Country WKKJ.
Today's game is presented by accurate Heating, cooling and Plumbing.
Let's head court side for today's countdown to tip off.
Here's Lou and Chris postage.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Well, pleasant, good evening to you. Well you know what,
I already messed that.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
President.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Good afternoon to you. We used to do it this
in the evening where we've got a big basketball game
here from Ohio Dominican University's Alumni Hall, a D three
regional final as the uniother Shermans come in on the
back of a big win on Thursday twenty four and
two on the season, they got the big win over
Toledo's Central Catholic and today they take on the Bishop
Hartley Hawks, a rematch from a game earlier in the season.

(00:44):
Hartley nineteen and six out of the Central Catholic League
and first year head coach Shannon Payer as the Hartley Hawks,
coming in with eight straight wins, try to win a
regional title for the first time in four years. The
Sherman's trying to win a regional title for the first
time in thirty one years, so it's a big history
on the line for the Purple and Gold, and we

(01:04):
expect a pretty good basketball game along with Lou postage.
I'm Jacob Wysidney Newsom back in studio today and Lou.
This is a matchup that I think some people have
been looking forward to it, hoping they would.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Get and again, I think it's why it was scheduled
earlier in the year, knowing this could be a possibility.
And you know, Hartley came out on top in that game,
but that was a game where Miley Smith got tweet
the ankles, You went out a little early, never came
back in the game, So not a lot you can
take from that. But you know, this time of the year,
it doesn't matter who you play. You're here, you're gonna

(01:37):
play as hard as you can because you want to
get to the next level. And for Unioto, that next
level let's get to the state final four. Yea.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
And in high school basketball, there's really three seasons. There's
before Christmas, after Christmas, and the tournament. And that matchup
between these two teams came well before Christmas, back on
December sixth. There was a sixty to forty two win
for Hartley, but again a lot of missing Miley Smith
in that game, and she has accounted for just about
just to shade under forty percent of the offensive output

(02:06):
for the Shermans coming into tonight.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
She had twenty two on Thursday and certainly played a
big role. She also picked up ten rebounds, so her
I think her seventh double double of the year. She
was outstanding all around the floor. Probably could have had
more points if they needed it, but they got some
big time contributions from some other cast of characters as well.
With with Charlotte being out of the game and Charlotte Dennis,

(02:30):
we wish the best to her and hopefully she can
rejoin the team here real soon. But Jillian Matthew comes
in gets a season high nine points in that win
on Thursday, and Kylie Puckett got a lot of minutes
in that game as well. She put up eight points,
all of those coming in the second half of Coach
Jeff Miller was praising both of them for the way
that they stepped in the absence of Charlotte in that game.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Yeah, and those two players have done so all tournament
low because Kylie had to step in because Danison was out.
So you know this is a you know, yeah, you
look at Mightyley Smith. He makes a lot of points,
makes a lot of things happen, but so many other
girls have stepped up and played key roles for you
Niota this year. That's what you need to go beyond,

(03:15):
you know, the district, regional and then get to the state.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
And again, kind of like the team that Uniota played
on Thursday in Central Catholic partly not a team that
is a real high scoring team. They don't have a
lot of players that have put up double figures. They
have a couple coming into this game tonight who are
averaging in double figures. But what they try to do
is they try to just smother you with ball pressure.
They try to trap you all over the floor and

(03:39):
force you into mistakes. And their overtime win against Grandville
on Thursday, both of those teams were north of thirty
turnovers and it was a game that Grandville had a
chance to win. They they shot less than fifty percent
from the free throw line down the stretch in that
game and Hartley was able to take advantage and advance
here to this regional final.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, two teams that very similar.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
That's what they want to do defensively, try to get
turnovers and then make those turnovers turn in the points
on the offensive end. And so I think we're in
for a treat here, good defensive game. That being said, well,
probably see a score in the six.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
NIOTA would like that they are version just over sixty
per game. Hey, we're just getting started here in this
Division III Regional final from Ohio Dominican University will step
aside from iHeartRadio Sports, this is OHSA Tournament Basketball presented
by Accurate Heating, Cooling and Plumbing on ninety four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Bector at Alumni Hall at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus
for this Division three regional final between the Unegoda Shermans
and the Bishop Hartley Hawks. Jacob wlies with you alongside
Loop Postage Sydney Newsom back in studio this afternoon to
look at how both of these teams have gotten to
this point so far this season. For the opponent, Hartley Hawks,

(07:05):
nineteen and six record winners in the Central Catholic League.
They beat Mifflins sixty nine to seven to open up
their tournament play and then beat Bexley fifty eight to
eighteen on February twenty third, and then beat the Sales
sixty four to thirty three in the district title back
on the twenty six So their first three games in
the district round, Hartley really was not tested at all.

(07:26):
That test, though, came on Thursday when they took on
Grandville won thirty six thirty five in overtime and again
in that game for Hartley, you know, Granville really had
a lot of opportunities, but Maya smidt that the game,
winning three with three and a half seconds left in
the ot Grandville missed six free throws in overtime. They
missed eleven in the game. Hartley turned the Blue aces

(07:48):
over thirty four times. Even though Hartley shot just twenty
seven percent and went twelve to twenty one from the line,
they were able to pick up the overtime win. It's
a team that has good guard play. They love to
have that high ball pressure defense and they'll try to
get after you in the full court, trying to trap
you around the floor as well. For the Union out
of Shermans again twenty four to two gold Ball champs

(08:10):
out of the SVC. When fourteen and zero didn't lose
a home game this year, they lost one on the
road and one neutral site game. Looking for their first
Elite eight appearance since nineteen ninety five, they opened up
the tournament with a fifty five to thirty four win
over Marietta on February nineteenth, Then on the twenty third,
they beat sherid In sixty eight forty six in the
district title. Last Saturday, fifty five to fifty one win

(08:33):
over Stupenville and then the fifty six to forty two
win over Toledo's Central Catholic on Thursday to get him
them here to this regional final. In that win on Thursday,
Miley Smith led all scores with twenty two while Kiera
Beard added thirteen had some big triples in that game.
Gillian Matthew had put up a season high nine points
kind of the bucket added eight in that game. Unioda

(08:54):
outscore the Irish in each of the first three quarters
the cruise to a fourteen point victory and Unioto's eleventh
straight wins. So both of these teams haven't lost for
a while.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
That going back to last Saturday over in Zanesville, that
was probably the most physical girls basketball game I've seen
it in a long time. Studentville really posed a thread
here to Uniyoda and Uniota stepped up big late in
that game. And multiple guys are multiple girls making plays
for Uniyodo. But man, I tell you what this UNIODA

(09:24):
team can win in a variety of ways. They can
play a variety of different basketball games, and today, you
know they're probably going to have to play another, you know,
hard fought game here to get by this Hartley hawkson
you know, you talk about Hartley overtime and they're less
than forty.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Points both teams.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
That's that is just a phenomenal defense when you think
about it, and again it's the defensive pressure that caused
all those turnovers.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yeah, we'll see it from both sides here. I'm sure
Uniyoda will try to get on the ball quite a bit.
They defended very well in their win on Thursday over
Central Catholic, and coach Jeff Miller after the game just
you know, saying, hey, this point in the tournament, it's
not going to be as clean as you would like
it to be. But the effort was outstanding, and we
noted that throughout the broadcast. In that game on Thursday,

(10:09):
the effort, you could tell that nobody on the floor
was ready to go home and pack basketball season away
at that point. I'm sure as you continue to go
down the stretcher, you can start to kind of feel
at the point and how big the tournament is at
this point, you want to try to make this thing
go as long as you can. And the Shermans looking
forward to seeing how they come out with their effort

(10:31):
here this evening, Unioda will wear the whites here tonight.
They were black on Thursday, so they are the de
facto home team on the scoreboard. So the white jerseys
uniodo across the chest and the purple trim, purple numbers,
yellow outline on those purple stripes down the sides of
those jerseys and shorts partly with navy bluetops and bottoms,
red trim around the necks and down the sides. They

(10:53):
have partly across the chest in white and their Hartley
Hawk logo emblazoned on the right side of the jersey,
stretching down into the shorts, red numbers front and back
with the white outline. And this Hartley Hawk's team has
about every color in the palette on their shoes, the
Sherman's mostly sticking with purple and pink, Hugh black and

(11:13):
whites in There is always interesting to see how the
players choose their game day apparel.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Yeah, a lot of pastel over here, and you know,
just a variety down here. That's a lot on those
uniforms for Hartley, A lot going on there, so wow.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Like this, Jim will be here very soon, very very loud.
We will step aside here. Opening tip coming up between
Uni Yodo and Bishop Hartley and this Division three girls
a Regional final from Ohio Dominican. After this, this is

This is High School Basketball ninety four Country w KKJ.
Today's game is presented by accurate heating, cooling, and plumbing.
Now let's head court side for today's tip off. Here's
Lou and Chris Postage.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Beck here at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus Alumni Hall
where we have this Division III Regional championship game. Uniota
taking on the Bishop Hartley Hawks for the second time
this season and the winner going to the or the
Elite eight in the tournament. And should be a fun
game here tonight. Now the winner were right, I started

(14:29):
to say it right from now. For quite a minute,
I haven't written down in front of me. Maybe I
should look at my notes anyway. Niota's starting lineup for
head coach Jeff Miller in his fifteenth season looks like this,
Jillian Matthew, sophomore forward, will draw in along with Magnolia
Holbert five six senior guard, Kylie Puckett five to three
sophomore guard, Kierra Beard five six sophomore guard, and Miley Smith,

(14:50):
a five foot ten senior guard. Again for the Lady
Sherman's Jillian Matthew, Magnolia Holbert, Kylie Puckett, Giera Beard and Miley's.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Yeah, but you know, speedy recovery for Charlotte Dennis, hopefully
if she's listening prayers and every thing's with you for
a quick, speedy recovery, get back here to your teammates.
And you know she she's played a big role for
this union other team and with her out, that's a
big loss. But like you said, Matthew has really filled
in big time for Uniodow.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Dennis had scored in all twenty five games that she
had played in this year. And after the win on Thursday,
the UNIODA facebook page, the girls basketball facebook page, that
this one's for you, Charlotte, and they're hopeful that with
a win here today that they could get her back
for the Final four game. But first they have to
get through this Bishop Haartley Hawk's team again coming in

(15:43):
at nineteen and six head coach Shannon Peyer starting lineup
looks like this. Thanky Burnett, a five to seven sophomore
guard averaging just under twenty points per game, Zakari Harrison,
a five to nine junior forward, Nira Mullins, a five
to six sophomore guard, Sam Massaro say five to four
junior guard, and Addison Standard, a five foot ten sophomore center. Again,

(16:05):
it is Burnett, Harrison, Mullins, Massaros and Standard are officials
for tonight's game. Bo Bolinger, Nikki de Giulio, and Tanner Pogue.
And you were talking about physical girls basketball being played
earlier in this tournament. That game on Thursday for the
Shermans was a very physical game as well, and coach

(16:27):
Cheff Miller just saying, hey, at this point, no official
wants to, you know, weigh in on the outcome of
how the game goes. So if they can let them go,
they will, And I think the Shermans are up to
the task. Should it be another physical one here today.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah, you love to see that. The thing about officials,
you just want them to be consistent. If you're gonna
let him play, let him play the entire game, and
I have no problem with that, but it's when.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
The inconstant consistency comes in and you start calling things
that you didn't normally call. So but yeah, I'm all
for letting letting him play, let them decide.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
So here in the tournament, they don't just introduce the
starting lineups. They introduce the bench players, They introduce the
coaching staff. They go through the whole spiel. And if
you don't know, in tournament play, you're required to submit
a roster that is limited. But then you also have
additional coaches and staff and so they can be on
that bench area as well. So they go through that

(17:24):
whole list.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Yeah, they're two minutes late. This game was supposed to
start at one thirty. It's now one thirty two.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
So the Lady Sherman's huddling up right near center's circle.
Before they take the floor. It will be a five
foot ten sophomore Addison Standard at the center's support of
jump for Hartley, and it'll be Miley Smith for the Shermans.
Niyoda will go left to right here to start this one.
Hartley will go right to left and our official Nikki

(17:56):
Dejulio blows the whistle, steps in and our black and
white stripe jersey tipped in the air, won by Miley
Smith up to Beard too long on the great play there.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Off the opening tip and again that was probably a
set play there.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Pierra Beard, who had thirteen of the win on Thursday,
strikes first for the Shermans here to start this one.
Now Hartley with its first possession and the pass go
on underneath by Miley Smith. They head to Beer two
one one across the lane to Pucket has to pull
it out at the right block, gets into the wing
pass personally blocked, but Hulbert there to pick it up.
Skip pass into the left wing. Three ball from Beard,

(18:31):
in and out and the rebound loose and it's finally
hauled in by Mirroe Mullins four Hartley two to nothing.
Sherman's thirty seconds into this one, and it's a quick.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Start, that sure is, and Hartley did not give up
on that possession there. They got back quickly and force
Uniota to take a long shot.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Hartly trying to set up the offense. Peeky Burnett running
the point, gets up the standard at the free throw line,
turns shoots too strong in the rebound Matthey for Unodo
Miley Smith across the time line crossover, dribble ahead of
the keep to the middle of the lane, bounce past
Low on the right. Too strong from matt He gets
her own rebound, can't get the foot back to go
and it's finally snatched away by Pinky Burnette for Hartley

(19:09):
up the near side tower right the left crossover head
of the keep backs her way in, spins middle of
the lane and they call her for a travel and
a turnover back to the Shermans.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Yeah, she took one extra step there.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
That was because you and Ioto had a lot of
help that came in to stop her, causing her to
take that extra step.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Tell you what, the Sherman side of these very large
grandstands here at Ohio Dominican absolutely packed. They've got them
sitting on both sides of the floor. Two nothing Sherman.
Smiley's foot all falls down and she slid right around
half court and she is writhing in pain, and they're
going to have to pull everyone off the floor and
check on her. Her foot kind of got caught underneath her.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
I don't know if it's it's just a weird way
that she felt she came down. I don't know if
it would be in the area of a ham string
a hip area, but it was awkward.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
You could tell she's in pain.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
Looks like she's got all kind of movements, so we're
gonna hopefully see everything's going to be okay.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Trying to wipe tears away with her jersey, her foot
kind of slid and then got trapped underneath her body,
but she is able to get up on her own.
You could hear a pin drop in this gym there
for a moment as Miley went down, and she's able
to walk off the floor under her own power, or

(20:31):
to probably walk it off a little bit and make
sure everything's.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
Good before we get her back in the game. And
I think who was at fifteen came in the game, Danison.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Dannison, who played a little bit on Thursday. Honorable mention.
SPC will play some minutes here, partly with the basketball
down to nothing to Yun Yodo's six thirty eight left
to play first quarter, partly with the ball on the
right wing and the Sorrows throws into the right corner,
Harris and trying to get to the corner shut off
there by Hulbert. Now a jumper right of the lane

(21:03):
goes down for Pinky Burnett her first two averaging twenty
a game had twenty eight against the Shermans back in December.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
We're very quick off of that first move there.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Two to two basketball game and a clumsy handoff there
between the rings, but Buckett able to get it, skips
the pass into the corner, driving toward the lane, pass
across the lane, tip out to Hlbert for three two
strong and the rebound taken by Mullins for Hartley. She
wants to push it up the floor, does not have
the numbers. She's going to take it anyway, and she
traveled tried that euros stepped through the double team, but

(21:37):
then a third player came through and had her take
an extra and the referee right there to call it.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Yeah, you know, I still don't understand the eurostefy. It
looks like traveler sod bike calls us something different.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Miley Smith back in the game for the Shermans. She's
dribbling left of the lane, stops bounce past into the
left corner, and how Puckett dribbles it back out to
the head of the key with her back to the pasket,
hands off Magnolia, Holbert show back it out to center's circle,
out to guard her as Masarros. She gets a screen
from Matthey into the left corner, ball and loose at
the free throw line, scooped back out now right wing,
Tierra Beard two hand passed over into the left wing,

(22:11):
down on the left block, Miley Smith trying to force
it for the basket. No call, no make ball, loose
on the floor, everybody on the floor, and finally a
whistle and a jump ball called will be in favor
of Hartley. I think at one point seven of the
ten players on the floor and we're on the floor.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Yeah, you can tell important this game is when people
start diving on the floor.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
It's it's important.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
So a Mirah Mullins brings it across the floor and
a quick three from Pinky Burnett from way downtown, too strong,
and now it'll just bounce out of bounds on the
opposite corner and the Sherman's will get it right back.
Five sixteen left here in this opening quarter that's already
been a ventful, but just a two to two game.
Hulbert with the basketball for the Shermans they'll get a

(22:58):
screen on the far sideline, gets across the timeline, Hulbert
left of the lane, tries to spin, has it not
to loose, able to get it back and get the
pass out to Bucket in the left wing. Now it's
Matthew down the left side of the lane, kicks it out,
Hulbert takes the three, and she's called for the traveler.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Nothing is easy in this game.

Speaker 4 (23:15):
I mean, both teams just getting after you defensively, just
as simple pass as a task.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Talking about help side defense, it's helping all over the floor,
partly with the basketball. In a two to two game,
a lazy pass across Miley, Smith takes it away one
on one, the other way Miley to the basket, Chicks
found and one.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
Yeah, that wasn't a good choice thereby Burnette to try
to challenge that, and it's going to cost her a
found and it's also going to give Miley a shot
at a three point play.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
It looked like she baited her into that and she
was waiting for the contact. Miley is seventy three percent
free throw shooter, ninety two of six on the year.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Yeah, Miley just waited for us.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
She went to a different gear slowed down, weighted only.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Knocks down the free throw, makes it a five to
two Sherman lead. Four to forty five left first quarter.
Pinky Burnett, handling for Hartley left wing, gets it right
back in the left wing, tries to try baseline step
back long two jumper too strong, missed everything. Mullin's there
on the other side to get it, puts it back
with the left hand that's short off the rim and
the second foot back A tip no from Harrison, and
now it loose ball. Hartley'll get it right back. A

(24:26):
jumper from Mullins misses, and finally Hulbert the rebound. Four
shots out of there for Hartley couldn't get anything to
go down. Holbert goes coast to coast, a lot of
contact under the basket, no call. It goes out of bounds,
but Hartley touched it last to Sherman's will inbound under
the basket.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
Yeah, that time we had two people on the floor
with nothing called ice.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Packs will be plentiful on the bus after the game.
Four to twenty left in the first quarter, inbound Beard
left point into Miley Smith's hands, takes the three ball
left wing. Perry's it with a hand in her face
six for Miley Smith. Sherman's up eight two.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
Good to see that she's back in the game. She
looks like she's fine. Guy next to me here, Tom
Wilson from the chie Gothic Gazette, took me a picture
that he took when she went down, and it's like
a hyper extension.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Bald knocked loose thill on the right block. Holbert comes
away with it for Uni Yodo over to Miley Smith
at the right wing. She'll pull up for three knots
down another Miley Smith is on fire and Hartley has
to call a time out. Three forty eight left in
the first quarter, eleven to two. Sherman's over Hartley in
this P three Regional final. We'll take a break. SBC

Speaker 17 (25:41):
Looking for plans this Sunday night, We've got you covered.
Center Point Church is hosting a free worship night at
Pexall in Downtown Circle Bill on Sunday, March eighth, from
seven to eight thirty pm. Come early and grab a
free coffee on us a roast coffee anytime between six
and seven, saving us.

Speaker 19 (26:10):
Well.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
After an injury. Miley Smith comes in and takes over
the basketball game for the last few minutes. Back to
back triples nine points so far here in the first
quarter and Uni Yoda with an eleven to two lead
over Hartley in this D three Regional final, three forty
eight left in the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
She actually had three triples.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
She had the old fashioned three and then two you know,
modern three pointers. But yeah, that injury just sort of
kickstarted her.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
So Hartley out of the time out pull up jumper
Mullins from the top of the keeps who's strong tall
rebound hauled in by Harrison, I mean if taken away
by Holbert for uniodo quick pass up the floor left
to right to Miley Smith in the right wing, gets
a screen ahead of the key, pulls up for three
just off the front of the rim. Rebound. Matthew for
the Shermans gets it back the Smith head of the

(27:00):
key nails it.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
She said, I missed from here. I'm going to try
it again.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
She's feeling it. Fourteen to two Shermans three ten left
of the first Mullin's handling right side, backs to back
out to the right wing up to the free throw line, jumps,
tries to pass, and a fowl just before it looked
like Unioda was going to pick up a steel.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Yeah, coach Miller, that happened right in front of him,
and he didn't like that one. But uh again, that
would have been a steal by Miley Smith. You know,
Miley's just going Miley things here.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
Right now, val goes on bucket her first first for
the Shermans, one each way so far. Inside three minutes
to play first quarter, Harty with it gets stripped through
and Holbert's going to be whistled for her first foul.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
Oh, they're going to give her two shouts on me.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
She was on the floor with her back to the basket.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Wow, Now that's something.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Even now they've been on the floor.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
Yeah, no, he's he's going to step In's.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Like, what are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Yeah, Jeff Miller can't believe it.

Speaker 13 (28:12):
Now.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
I've seen this multiple times in this tournament, in various
games that they've given him the you know two, and
I'm like, they didn't even think about you.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah, she never made any effort at shooting the ball.
Zakari Harrison had the free throw line.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
This is the first.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
I was starting to look at the bench, thinking, surely
there'll be more outrage over there in purple out of
that call. I think they just didn't see it because
it was so unlikely. And then once they stepped in
and said no, no, two shots there you got the outrage.
She makes the second, her first point for Zakari Harrison
fourteen to three Sherman's two fifty left in the first Hulbert,
trying to get it across half court against Sam Massaros,

(28:51):
gets trapped over near the scorers table, but gets loose,
and now it's four on two. The other way, Miley
Smith for a long too too strong, trying to keep
it in, and they do, but Hartley will get it all,
stepping in to take it away as Aiden Dannison gets
it to Matthew Missus the jumper right wing and the
rebound to Burnett for Hartley between the legs, dribble behind

(29:12):
the back, runs to the basket, gets the runner to go,
Thank you, Burnette.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
She's a scorer, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Quickly the other way, long two jumper goes for Pierra
Beard and now four for her sixteen to five Shermans
two minutes to play first.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
Quarter, Yeah, she's really becoming a threatt scoring wise, especially
in this tournament.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Beard takes a long three, tries to fall down and
draw the foul, doesn't get it. Hulbert the rebound for
the Shermans. Two on one the other way, Dannison tries
to go across the lane, Burnett there to snatch it
out of her hands.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Another girl on the floor.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Burnette up the floor right to left for Hartley, dribbles
to the right side of the lane, turns, shoots too
strong off the back of the rim. Matthew the rebound
for the Shermans. Burnett trying to take over for Hartley
the way Miley Smith did for a few minutes. Five
Sherman's lead. Smith, with the basketball working on Mirra Mullins
way up top, gets his screen into the right wing.

(30:06):
Miley driving toward the right block, hang shoots off the
class fikes it and one. My goodness, fourteen and a
chance at fifteen for Miley here in the first quarter.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
Yeah, you don't want to make Miley Smith mad, because
when she really zones in, she can take over.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
I mean people, you know you.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Wonder why she's a going to Dayton, Why is she's
d one well, there you go.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
At the free throw lineer, she's already made one today,
looking for point number fifteen, knocks it down fifteen for
Miley Smith. The Sherman's lead nineteen five with one twenty
five left in the first Bakey Burnett four, Hartley into
the right point, bounce pass into the wing. The Sorrows
dribbling it back out between the rings, picks it up,

(30:59):
bounce head of the key. Mullins, she drives left of
the lane, pull up jumper halfway down too strong, offensive
rebound putback doesn't go still fought four and they say
it went off for you and Yodo under the basket.
Out of bounce.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
Hartly does crash the boards extremely hard, and they're going
after those offensive rebounds. Uniodo is going to make sure
they shore.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
That up inbound past the Burnett in the right corner.
And now a three ball from Mullins on the way
too strong. I hit the shot clock up on top
of the rim. We won't get into the shot clock
conversation here, but we are in a college gym, so
the physical clock is there, and that's out of bounce.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
Well, the thing that really in this gym, you got
three lines there for three pointers. You know, up to
Conbo We've always talked about the two big lines down there,
and here they've got three.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Riley Smith head of the key between the legs, dribbled
bounce past Hulbert hitter and the knee. But she's able
to corral head of the key back to the basket
up top, backs it back out in the center circle.
Forty two seconds left here in the first quarter, nineteen
to five on top bounce past Miley Smith going to
the basket in the lane, can't get the shot to go,
all tipped out and hauled in by standard for Hartley,

(32:09):
and now I had Pinky Burnette crossover, tries to just
lob it up towards the basket and Che's fount She'll
go to the line for two, kind of hung in
the air and looking for that scoop shot from well
left of the lane. Ye that Beard'll pick up the foul.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
That shot had zero chance of going in, but she
did throw it up to get the two shots.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Binky Burnette is sophomore, just under a thousand points for
her career, already well into the nine hundreds to start
the day. Buries the first one here for her fifth
point That twenty eight she put up on Unioto back
in December is her season high, averaging just under twenty
a night, and like Miley for Unioto, Pinky Burnett accounts

(32:50):
for the majority of the offense, typically for Hartley. Second
one goes down six for her and a buzzer here
for a substitution, So Cary Harrison checking back in for Hartley.
I'm gonna get Pinky Burnette a little extra break here
at the end of his first quarter twenty seven point
three left in the quarter, nineteen to seven, Unioto leads

(33:12):
Miley Smith will bring it up the floor for the Shermans.
Behind the back driple now crossover gets the screen ahead
of the keep from Dannison. Miley Smith, driving right of
the lane, falls down, gets to pass off to Hulbert
Pulvert at the free throw line, Spins loses her dribble,
needs a teammate, finds Dannison in the corner, who puts
it on the floor, then SAPs it across and almost
took out sports writer Derek Webb in the process.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
He wasn't even respecting that ball.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
I'll tell you it is nice to do games court side,
but you do have to be paying attention.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
So Schindler checks in Ellis Schindler for Bishop Hartley seven
seconds left to play in the first quarter. Thinky Burnette
also back in crossover, drove right wing launches bomb from
the right corner, and that's too strong, and that's the
way the first quarter ends. What a first quarter here
at Ohio Dominican of next D three Regional Final nineteen

(34:08):
to seven. Unyoda leads partly after one from my Heart
Radio Sports. This is the OHSA Tournament Basketball, presented by
actor Heating, Cooling and Bombing on ninety four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Play on the Golden TV app well eventful first quarter
from Alumni Hall here at Ohio to a University in
Columbus D three regional final winner to the final four.
Uniyoto leads nineteen to seven and Miley Smith with fifteen

(35:09):
of the Shermans nineteen in that first quarter. After she
slid down, looked like she hyper extended her knee was
in a lot of pain. She took a short breather,
came back in and then just caught fire and took
over the game for a good couple of minutes.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
Yeah, looking at some of the numbers in Nioto seven
of sixteen shooting that quarter, forty four percent, three of
six from beyond the arc, and perfect two for two
at the free throw line. They only had two turnovers
there in that first quarter. Partly was two of fifteen
thirteen percent zero five from beyond the arc, and they
ended up with six turnovers.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Uniota starts the second quarter with the basketball, Miley Smith
with it, working on Zakari Harrison, try to set up
the offense, goes off with screen right point, gets to
the free throw line, picks up for at triple in
two fantassas to Holbert at the left point, takes it
right back now show kipp it right back to Holbert,
who dribbles over toward the right wing and now turns
and comes back towards top of the key, now backing down.
Her defender comes back out, and now Miley Smith will

(36:05):
try her hand crossover dribble left of the wane, gets
into the wing, gives it up pocket dribbles back out
of the key. Soy, Sherman's being very patient here on
this possession. To start the second quarter, Hulbert into the
right wing, backs it back out back to Miley Smith.

(36:26):
When Iley Smith, backing it back out on the far side,
gets off the screen left wing, three ball, he nails in.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
That's up right where she left off.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Four triples and two three point plays for Miley Smith
so far, twenty two to seven Shermans Just underway in
the second quarter. Pinky Burnett left wing for Hartley crossover
dribble working on Kiera Beard, tries to back up, goes
back forward, shoots it up, so I'll put it in
in traffic eight for Pinky Burnett.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
Yeah, you don't average twenty points not being able to
make shots like that.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Twenty two to nine. Sherman's lead Miley Smith handles for
Uni Yodo gives up Hulbert left point, Matthey out the
screen for her. Head of the key. Holbert powls up
for three off the glass, off the rim, no good
rebound loose and finally hauled in by Hartley as Zakari.
Harrison pulls it in. Now driving down the floor, Mirra
Mullins backs it back out left point. Six minutes to

(37:26):
play here, second quarter twenty two nine Shermans. Mullins to
the basket, can't get it to go short off the
front of the rim. Matthew the rebound for Yuinniyodo. Miley
Smith in the right wing, no one out to guard her,
shoots the three too strong there, and Burnett the rebound
for Hartley, she wants to push up the floor, immediately
pulls up for a long two missus left of the mark,

(37:46):
goes off the backboard, ball on the floor fighting over it.
They're letting them fight over it. Shot goes up missus
from Harrison and now the ball out of bounds underneath.
The Shermans, for the most part, have done a good
job of attacking the glass defensively, but boy Hartley can
be pesky on the offensive boards.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
Yeah, if they can't get it, they just try to
keep it alive, just knock it around, try to get
it to somebody else.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Pierra Beard will get a breather for the Shermans as
Aiden Vanison checks in and bound pass into the left wing,
and now Mullens holds it over her head, gets it
to Burnett shoots a monster three from way downtown, too
strong off the ram out of bounds back to Unioto.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
That would be zero of six from beyond the arc.
Is Hartley here in the first half in.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Two you're talking about the lines. They should be used
to it. They've played a game here, but the line
for this game is light. There's the dark black one
for the men's game. That's well extended. That last shot
for Burnette was well beyond that. That's the one you'd
see in your peripheral vision more than the others. Now
as steal out front. Barnette steals the pass up top
from from pocket, takes it to the basket, makes the shot,

(38:58):
dwells the foul, a chance to three point play for Burnett.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:01):
The thing about Burnett is she just understands, she has
instincts and basketball wise, like right there, she knew where
the past, was gonna go get a hand on it
and goes the other way.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
And like the best basketball players that you'll see around
the rim, they just know how to protect the ball
with their body and draw contact and still make it
maximize their points. Looking for her eleventh of the day,
bends fires and misses it. Matthew going for it and
it goes out of bounces. It was tapped out by

(39:35):
Sakari Harrison.

Speaker 4 (39:38):
Yeah, Matthew playing extended minutes here the last couple games,
and she does not look tired at all.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
So good job, very good effort from her on Thursday.
Off to a good start here today. Miley Smith before
the Sherman's off the screen and Matthew called for the
moving screen.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
She didn't just stay and she went into the offensive
player and they're gonna call that.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
It's her first foul on Matthew's second foul for Uniodo
here in the quarter. None for Hartley so far inside
five minutes to play here in this first half, twenty
two to eleven. Sherman's lead the Sorrow's head of the
key gets it to Burnett. Pinky Burnette puts it on
the floor with the right hand working on here Beard,
Sherman's trying to trap quick pass, Mullins jump her from
the free throw line, No, and Miley Smith there the rebound,

(40:28):
she lobs ahead for Dannison two on one past too
tall for Beard, and Beard's pass knocked out of bounds,
but right back off the hand of Beard and out
of bounds, and the Sherman's.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Turn it over. Yeah, right there.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
That was not a way to execute your fast pray golfense.
And you know, good rebound by Miley, but not a
good execution.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
Burnett up top four, Hartley backing it back out, Sherman's
trying to trap her, and Halford gets her hands on
the basketball and they say she touched it last as
it goes into the Yodo bench. Four to twenty three
left in the second, twenty two to eleven, Unioto leads
over Hartley in this D three regional final. Hartley with

(41:10):
the basketball, Burnette quickly in and then back to her
off the inbound play right side of the lane, Low
on the right block, Harrison high off the glass, puts
it in man.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
She turned her body. I didn't think she was gonna
be able to get that ball.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Up or what she did cuts it to a twenty
two to thirteen game, down to nine points as the
Sherman lead. Miley Smith with it right wing, wanted to
I think step back and shoot a three, but good
defense played on her. Hulbert back up high, tribbles into
the right wing, crosses back over and backs it back
out and now tries to again approach toward the left block,

(41:45):
bounce past across the lane wide. They've been Matthew for
the two low on the.

Speaker 4 (41:49):
Right grade fine by Maggie Holbert and a good job
of matth. They just being ready for the ball and
taking it right up.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
When the entire Hartley defense crashed on Hulbert and she
found the open and twenty four to thirteen Sherman's back
to an eleven point game. Hartly the other way standard
underneath Spence, shoots, can't get it to go, Paull loose
picked up by Harrison. Her shot doesn't go, but shoots
foud and she'll go to the line for.

Speaker 4 (42:14):
Two, getting us second shot opportunities again for Hartley.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
And that one will go on Aiden Dannis and her
first team third for the Shermans. Three twenty still left
to play here in this second quarter, so Harrison a
fifty one free throw shooter one for two so far
today and the first one too strong, kicks off the
flange and off to the right. Zakari Harrison, the junior

(42:51):
forward Ben's fires that one too strong as well. Rebound
fop for still lose towards the sideline and Hartley able
to get it. Mullins to the basket, can't get the
shot to go. Hulbert fighting for the rebound and it
goes out of bounds. It was tipped through over her
head by Addison Standard, but some of the some of

(43:11):
the taller players underneath making it hard for the Shermans
on the defensive glass.

Speaker 4 (43:15):
Yeah, they are, and they are being extremely aggressive and
going after those rebounds, trying to get themselves back in
this game. We're gonna get a time out here by
coach Miller, So.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
The Shermans take a time out. Three to eight left
to play in the first half, twenty four to thirteen
Uniodo leeds Hartley in his D three regional final. This
is the OHSA Tournament presented by Accurate Heating, Cooling and
Plumbing on ninety four country WKKJ.

Speaker 18 (43:39):

Speaker 2 (44:16):
Three eight left here in the second quarter from Ohio
Dominican University twenty four to thirteen. Unioto leads Hartley and
the D three regional final Jip Whies with you along
with lou Postage, Sydney Newsom back end Studio, Sherman's coming
out of the time out Colbert across the timeline, Smith
catches it amidst the double team, gets it to Danison

(44:36):
Lowe on the right, her shot too strong, gets her
own rebound on the other end of the lane, and
then gets it out to Miley sets a pick and
she's called for a moving screen.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
Coach Mill are not happy with those screens.

Speaker 4 (44:49):
And you have a player like Miley Smith just standing there.

Speaker 3 (44:53):
Miley's going to use you how she wants to.

Speaker 2 (44:59):
I wonder if that's time out. Wasn't just to try
to give them a quick breather after a tough couple
ends down the floor. Not what you want out of
a time out. Good fine underneath for a Hartley in
the layoff upon end for Zakari Harrison five for her
back to a nine point game, Unioda on top twenty
four to fifteen to two and a half to play.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
First half.

Speaker 4 (45:19):
Yeah, Harley's outscored Unioto eight to five this quarter so far.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
Miley Smith off the screen ahead of the key, behind
the back dribble, steps back, working on Harrison into the
right point, trying to get to the basket. Picks up
he dribble skip past the Danison and into the corner
Hulbert for three off the side of the rim. Holbert
gets a rebound and then steps it back out, gets
it back to Miley Smith right wing. Two ten left
to play here. Second quarter, Miley backing it back out

(45:44):
looking for a screen, crosses overhead of the key, gets
another screen into the right wing. Good switch off there. Defensively,
Miley still gets to the block and she's foult under
the basket, and so she will go to the line
for two here. That was who Miley Smith is once
the three ball missed, she was I'm taking it to
the basket, no matter how I have to get there.

Speaker 4 (46:06):
Yeah, she was just biding her time there. You knew
she was going and there. It's just a case of
trying to stop her.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
Miiley Smith at the line two for two from the line,
makes the first one here. That's point number nineteen for
her as Zoey Dettwyler checks back in back to a
ten point game here with one fifty nine left in
the half. Miiley Smith coming in twenty one hundred and
eight points, most all time for a Uniodoay Sherman buries

(46:38):
the second at the twenty point mark with two minutes
to play in the first half, twenty six fifteen. Shermans
Harrison top of the key, underneath good fine Shindler under
the basket, can't get it to go Smith the rebound
for Uniodo Ulbert up the floor, left to right crossover,
left elbow, tries to kick it out, had it partially block.

(46:59):
Mullins comes away with it two on one the other way.
Mullins will take it to the basket. Miley Smith. They
able to alter that shot. Heard the rebound for the
Shermans minute and a half left here in the second quarter,
twenty six to fifteen Unioda with the basketball. Miley Smith,
trying to set up the offense, looking for a screen

(47:20):
from Holbert, will go the other way on a pine
to back dribble into the left wing, pulls up for
a long three too short off the front of the rim,
and again she was right there on that college men's
three point line. Quick pass ahead underneath left hand, good
from Mira Mullins, who has her first points tonight. Quick
transition basket for Hartley cuts it to twenty six seventeen.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
Now Harley's done a really good job this quarter of
being able to.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
Get some transition buckets.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
Miley Smith to the basket herself, doesn't get a call.
Mira Mullins ahead for Hartley and her past too tall
for Ella Schindler under the basket, out of bounds of
the Sherman. So we'll get it right back. With forty
three point seven left on the second quarter clock.

Speaker 4 (48:04):
That's only the first turnover of this quarter for Hartley.
They had it seven in the first quarter, only the
first one here this quarter.

Speaker 2 (48:14):
Hulbert across the line for Unioda crossover dribbled through a
double team and she's fout on a reach end. She's
trying to find her way toward the rim and it
will go on Zakari Harrison her second second foul for
Hartley here in this quarter, Unioda sitting on four, so
they don't have one to give to the Shermans. Thirty

(48:36):
two point seven left in the half. Hulbert inbounds from
under the basket, gets it to Miley Smith, who turns
left of the lane, backs it back out in the
wings crossover, pulls up for a long three in an out.
It was three quarters of the way down and it
popped right back out back to Hartley. Twenty seconds left
in the half, Mullins handles for the Hawks. Coulbert out

(48:58):
to guard a screen from Shindler in the left wing,
hands off to Pinky Burnett eight seven six. Burnett to
the free throw line through the defenders and lays it
up on the left hand. Nice true from Burnett, and
the Shermans will have to heave one here and they
don't get it away and we go to the break
here at Ohio Dominican. In this Division III Regional final,

(49:20):
un Yodo leeds twenty six to nineteen over Hartley. We'll
take a break from iHeartRadio Sports. This is the OHSA

had that lead up around eleven, twelve, thirteen points for

(50:56):
most of that first half, but Hartley with an eight
run at the end of that first half, they outscore
Uniyodo twelve seven in that second quarter to cut it
to a twenty six nineteen game here at half. And Lou,
I'm sure you'd agree there's points in that first half
where you're thinking, boy, you Yodo getting out to a
big lead. They're playing really well, but boy, it's still early.

(51:18):
There's a lot of basketball left to play.

Speaker 3 (51:19):
There, sure is.

Speaker 4 (51:20):
And again, as you mentioned, that second quarter was all Hartley.
In my opinion, they did a much better job offensively
of executing finding areas in the zone to create some shots,
and they also forced Uniyodo into some turnovers. They ended
up having six turnovers that quarter. Did un Yodo and
some of those led right to run out for Hartley.

(51:42):
So you know Hartley is a good defensive team. You
know they were going to do something to change the
momentum here and well, I'll tell you what they needed
to and they did. And looking at some of the numbers,
nine of twenty five shooting for Unioda after a nice
hot start, cooled off there in that quarter, that's thirty
six percent, four of twelve from beyond the arc, thirty

(52:04):
three percent perfect at the free throw line, four for four.
Party was eight of twenty nine shooting twenty eight percent
zero six though from beyond the arc, and three of
seven at the free throw line. So they could be
much closer if they were able to make their free throws,
because they got there much more than Unioto did.

Speaker 2 (52:24):
When you look at the headliners coming into this game,
Miley Smith for Uni Yodo, Pinky Burnett for Bishop Hartley,
they're the two leading scorers for their teams, and both
teams only with three players on the score sheet. For Partly,
it's Burnett with twelve, Harrison with five, and May Mullins
with two. For Uni Yoto, it's Miley Smith with twenty

(52:46):
four from Kiera Beard two from Jillian Matthew, Lou. You
got to think that coach Miller and company they want
to try to incorporate some more of their supporting cast
in the second half.

Speaker 4 (52:55):
Yeah, and again Holbert had some open threes, she just
did not hit any of those. And again the rest
of them have done a good job. Matthew has some
inside shots. She wasn't able to fall either. But you know,
coming into the game, there were two premier scores, and
you know we've been treated to a really good basketball
from those two.

Speaker 3 (53:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (53:16):
Absolutely, halftime here in Columbus again Uniyoto on top twenty
six nineteen in this game that will send the winner
to the state final four. We'll take a break from

This is the halftime report on ninety four Country WKKJA.

Speaker 2 (55:42):
Back here at Columbus at Ohio Dominican University halftime in
this Girls Division III Regional final and Unioto with a
twenty six nineteen halftime leaders. They start to come back
out on the floor and just a packed house of
purple and gold here on their side and some on
the other side as well. Hartley with a nice bunch
here as well. But a very entertaining first half. Looked

(56:03):
like Uniota was going to try to run away with
it early, but at this point the tournament you know
better and Hartley is able to gather themselves and make
a run there. A big, big second quarter for them
in Pinky Burnett with twelve points helps get this a
lot closer going into this third quarter.

Speaker 4 (56:18):
Yeah, and they're a team that you look at their schedule,
they've challenged themselves to get to this point, and so
you know they're not going to get down. Even though
they were down you know early, they fought back and
got themselves right back into this game. You look at it,
it's only seven. I mean after that first quarter, you
you were thinking this could be a runaway, and Hartley

(56:39):
did a great job of riding the ship and they
you know, Unioto, you talk about trying to get to
that final four.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
You are now sixteen minutes away.

Speaker 4 (56:49):
Yeah, you've got to put together a solid sixteen minutes
of basketball, taking care of the basketball, and when you
got inside shots at our point blank, you've got to
make those.

Speaker 2 (57:00):
In a few locker rooms in your life. What do
you think the mood was like during halftime year in
this one.

Speaker 4 (57:05):
Well, I think after that quarter, I think Uni Yoto
probably went in down. Coach Miller has to tell him, hey, listen,
we've had a good half. We're up seven. You know
you that doesn't happen a lot in regionals. Now, we
got to get back to playing uniodo basketball.

Speaker 3 (57:19):
Here in the next quarter.

Speaker 4 (57:20):
And I think the first four minutes of this quarter
are going to be important. You know, as I said,
there's eighteen minutes left, but four minutes here, you've got
to come out and re establish control of this game.

Speaker 2 (57:30):
Absolutely, we'll take one more break here. Second half coming
up right after this. On ninety four Country WKKJ.

Start on the second half here from Ohio Dominican in Columbus,
Unioda leads twenty six nineteen over Hartley. Hartley will start
the second half with the basketball. Mullin's driving tries to
cross court pass, went off the leg and now bodies
on the floor and Uni Yoto diving on the floor.
Matthew able to get there in a dual possession jump
ball possession arrow to Uni Yodo's so in effect the

(59:54):
turnover on the opening possession. Good way to start it
coming out of the break.

Speaker 4 (59:58):
I'll say, more people on the floor in this game
in a lot of games, but tells you.

Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
How important this game is.

Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
No energy to spare at the end of this one
for either team. Hulbert will bring it across the floor
for the Shermans, gives up to Miley Smith, who dribbles
into the right wing, backs up, shoots the three high
arching shots short off the front of the rim, pulled
in by Hulbert low in the left block, she dribbles
through the lane, gets it back out Smith head of
the key through the lane, dumb pass low on the

(01:00:24):
right and Matthew can't get it to go and it
goes off of her hand, out of bounds back to Hartley.

Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
Yeah, that's what I was talking about. You can get
good chance there.

Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
You gotta get it high enough to give him a
chance to go in, and you gotta expeck contact because
it's coming.

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
And you're gonna have to fight through it because unless
it's egregious, they are letting them play, and I think
the players like that. Twenty six to nineteen. Sherman's lead
seven to twenty two. Left here in the third thinking
Burnett right wing for Hartley pulls up for long three,
gets off the side of the rim and Miley Smith
goes up over the defender to pull in the rebound.

(01:01:00):
Obert now up the floor into the left wing, bucket
for three too strong rebound fought four and able to
pull it out of the pile is mirror. Mullins she
wants to push to a floor, backs it back out
of the left wing, Beard out to guard her.

Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
In the corner.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Now crossover dribble into the corner, shoots a long two
that's too strong rebound through the middle. Hulbert able to
catch it on the deflection, and now she fires ahead
and that one taken by Burnett for Hartley gets it
back to Mullens quickly and they throw it away trying
to go the other wind. It's like both teams are
trying to make one pass to get from one end
to the floor to the other and a little bit
sloppy the last couple of possessions both ways.

Speaker 4 (01:01:36):
Yeah, as I said the first four minutes here, try
to recontrate, retake control. This isn't how you want to
get started here. But fortunately Hartley's given it right back
to you.

Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
Six and a half to play.

Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
Third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Miley Smith dribbling right of the lane, hangs, shoots off
the glass and end twenty two for Miley Smith. Twenty
eight to nineteen Shermans, thank you. Burnett right wing steps
through a double team, hangs and tries to lay it in.
It goes off the side of the Ramman, out of bounds,
off of Hartley. If Niyoto will get it back, boy,
it seems like Pinky Burnett can just stay in the

(01:02:09):
air as long as she needs well.

Speaker 4 (01:02:11):
And again that's what Miley Smith can do. Players that
can play the game at their level, that's what you
can do. You can just hang as long as you
want or need to to get that ball up.

Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Six twelve left in the third, Miley Smith brings it
up the floor right the left for Uniyodo, gets a
screen from Matthy up top back across Matthy's back, steps
out of the key, fires at three barris here.

Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
She us Matthew four times there to get that shot.

Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Off unreal twenty five from Miley Smith. Under six minutes
to play third quarter, Burnett right wing backs it back
out into the corner and looks spaceline cut off there by.
Holbert skips it back out ahead of the key. Mullins
now to Harrison right a lane shot from the elbow
goes down somehow.

Speaker 4 (01:02:58):
Yeah, when Harrison's got the ball and she's done a
good job, she's got six points.

Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
Filey Smith handling it at the center court logo to
the left point, pulls up for three off the rim
kicked out right side, left side, pops out to Pinky Burnett.
She wants to fire at one hand ahead and I'll
go straight out of bounds under the basket.

Speaker 4 (01:03:19):
She had three girls that were down there beyond you, Nyodo,
and she just overthrew all of the.

Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
Time out here on the floor. Five nineteen left of
the third Unioda leads thirty one twenty one over Hartley
in the D three Regional Final. Back in a moment

by the US Department of Transportation the AD Council.

Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
In this station, five nineteen left in the third, thirty
one twenty one, UNIODO leads man out of the timeout.
The Shermans have the basketball. Jacob Wise with you along
with lou Postage, Sydney News back in studio this afternoon.

(01:04:28):
Glad to have you with us for a D three
Regional Final winner to the Final four. You'renyoda trying to
do that for the first time in thirty one years.
Beard has it ahead of the key. Now Miley Smith
right wing try to go between the legs, but backs
it back out near the uniodo bench. Matthew coming out
to screen in the right wing. Smith pull up three

(01:04:48):
in the corner too strong off the back of the rim.
Matthew the rebound for the Shermans and she draws a
foul as Addison's standard. Try to reach in there and
poke it free.

Speaker 4 (01:04:58):
Well, a great job there by Matthey of number one,
not moving on those screens out front. But Dan once
a shot goes up, she goes hard as a bucket.

Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Hulbert will inbound from right of the lane as we
look at it here from half court, bounce past Matthew
Low and the left puts it in there. You go
big inbounds play there for the Shermans. Makes it thirty
three twenty one Uni yodos four to forty five left
third quarter. Pinky Burnette in the right wing tripples, backs
it back out, goes back toward the corner, long three

(01:05:29):
on the way as she steps back right out of
the hands of Miley. Smith fires it ahead and wide
open his Pucket Low on the left can't get the
lay up Beard the rebound for the Shermans, trying to
get out of a double team.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
She does.

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
Miley Smith now to the free throw line, left elbow,
dumps it back out. Hulbert ahead of the Key show
back out reset things for the Shermans. Miley Smith taking
her time. Matthew thered a screen ahead of the key.
Smith down the right side of the lane, pulls up, hangs, shoots,
get it to go? Is it misses off? The fans

(01:06:01):
rebound Mullins for hardly. They want to run right down
the middle is Mullins. She takes it to the rack,
can't get it to go, but she was fouled as
you'll go to the line for two.

Speaker 3 (01:06:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
When they run, they are quick down the floor and
they are beating you to yodo.

Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
They got to be able to get back.

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Beard picks up her second foul. Both teams with a
foul so far. Here in the third, four h two
left to play in the quarter, Mullens free throw rams out.
It's not a great free throw shooting team sixty two
percent on the season, but here are the last couple
of games in this tournament. It has not been a
strong point for the Hawks.

Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
Yeah, and when you're trying to come back from the deficit.
This is a twelve point deficit. You have got to
make your free throws when you have those opportunities.

Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Got a score with the clock stop. Second one goes
in for Mullins, has her third point. Thirty three to
twenty two is the Uniodo lead. Four minutes to play
third quarter. Miley Smith across the half court stripe, take
your pick. She goes left off the screen, left of
the lane, stops, kicks out left wing. Pucket down the baseline,

(01:07:11):
draws a foul. Kiley Puckett, the sophomore guard, one shy
of a season high with eight points on Thursday. A
couple of substitutions here. As Pinky Burnett checks back in,
Ariah Jones was in briefly heads back to the bench

(01:07:33):
inbound from Holbert left of the lane, under the basket.
She gotta get rid of it and she's called for
the five seconds. Uneioto forced one of those against Toledo
Central Catholic on Thursday. Made it hard on those inbounds,
but they just could not find anybody open there for
the Shermans on the inbound.

Speaker 4 (01:07:50):
Yeah, it's tough when your first option is like three
seconds into the thing. Your first option has got to
be quicker than.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
The thirty three to twenty two Sherman's forty left in
the third down to Harrison Lowe on the right in
an easy lay up for her.

Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
Nice nice pass by Mulla's.

Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
Matthew for the Shermans out to Beard left wing. Beard dribbles,
passes Hulbert show back it out from the right point
out to guard her Samma sorrows Aulbert dribbles left elbow,
backs it back out, finds Miley Smith to the free
throw line. She spins, go down the right of the way,
makes the shot, and the fowl strong unto the basket
for Miley Smith. Twenty seven for her and a chance

(01:08:34):
at twenty eight.

Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:08:35):
That's a possession where they were trying to face guard her.

Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
Not allowing her to touch the ball. She got the bone,
she knew what to do with it right away, and that's.

Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
Taken hard as the holes.

Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Addison standard checks back in for Hartley. Smiley Smith steps
to the free throw line. Fowl was by the way
on Elli Schindler. Her first shot from Miley Smith rattles
in and out. Her first missed free throw today thirty
five twenty four Unioto leads three to five left here
of the third Pinky Burnett for Hartley passes into the

(01:09:11):
right wing mullins. They find Schindler on the right side
of the lane. She bounces, tries to get it back out.
Almost lost in the past, Sherman fans wanted to double dribble.
Pinky Burnett handles right wing into the free throw line,
one hand, flings it toward the basket, can't get it
to go offensive rebound underneath. Standard has it poked away,
puts it back in and gets found that just a

(01:09:35):
tough sequence there for the Shermans defensively, a chance to
a three point play for Addison Standard, who scores for
the first time.

Speaker 3 (01:09:41):
Today, and she did not give up on that.

Speaker 4 (01:09:45):
She kept going after that ball until she was able
to complete it.

Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
So Addison Standard, a forty eight percent free throw shooter,
bins fire knocks that one down. Three point play for
her and a big one for Hartley cuts it to
a nine point game. Thirty five twenty six bucket open
left of the lane short Miley Smith the rebound low
in the left, tries to go back to the basket,
shoos fout as she puts it up, trying to reverse

(01:10:16):
the layup underneath, and Miley Smith will go to the
line for two.

Speaker 4 (01:10:24):
I guess say put that point up late. You were
talking about a six point lead or nine point late.
It's only an eight point now. They've been slow on
the fouls here. I'm they're trying to catch up. It's
a lot been going on quickly, so yeah. Thirty five,
twenty seven as Miley Smith steps.

Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
To the line and the first one rattles home. It's
a shooter's role there. The bucket will take a break
for the Shermans, and Aiden Dannison will come in to
spell her for a bit. Miley Smith bends fires man

(01:11:00):
that one rattles home as well. Twenty nine for Miley Smith.
Back to a ten point game. Two thirty three left
here of the third Peinky Burnett has it stripped Aways
who tried to spin at the top of the lane.
Beard comes away with it. Holbert left wing toward the baseline,
a little reverse, but she gets it to go with
the right hand.

Speaker 3 (01:11:21):
Great move, Hi, Maggie, Holbert and coach and Miller wants
to talk about it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
Time out on the floor. Two nineteen left in the
third Unioto Leeds Hartley thirty nine twenty seven. This is
SBC Basketball, presented by Accurate Heating, Cooling and Plumbing on
ninety four Country WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
Well Miiley Smith with eleven third quarter points so far
for the Shermans, but a big reverse layup from Maggie
Holbert puts a cap on a nice run going into
that time out. Thirty nine twenty seven. Unioto leads with
two nineteen left here in the third.

Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
Yet the crowd was going nuts here. I'm not sure
why Coach Miller calls that time out. Now, everybody sort
of settled back into their seats.

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
Thirty nine twenty seven. Uniodo leads Mullins left to right
up the floor for Hartley, middle of the lane, Standard
shoots the jumper, banks it in. She turned around looking
to pass, nobody was there. Said I'll just shoot it myself.
She used the square back to a ten point game.
Miley Smith to the right elbow, runner doesn't go, rolls

(01:13:10):
off the front of the rim. Standard the rebound for
Hartley and a jump ball arrow favors Hartley, but that
might come back later. So Hartley with the basketball down
ten Mirah Mullins with it right wing, veered out to

(01:13:31):
guard her, gets his screenhead of the key. Standard low
on the right bounce, dribble back shooting, can't get it
to go too strong. Miley Smith the rebound again for
Uni Yodo kind of stepped backwards. Did she let that
one go? Minute and a half left in the third
Miley Smith pull up three. I think there was contact

(01:13:51):
there too, and she still knocked it down. Dannison steps
in front of the inbound pass and knocks it out
of bound.

Speaker 4 (01:13:59):
Yeah, that was a big time free there. Unotto doing
a little.

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
Bit different defense here looks like it's.

Speaker 4 (01:14:06):
Uh trying going one here as Danison is just playing
Burnette right now.

Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
Thirty two for Miley Smith. She's hit six triples and
had two three point plays so far tonight a big
one there. One fifteen left in the third forty two
twenty nine, Sherman's lead standard right at the free throw
line finds and open Schindler underneath. She missed the layup
Miley Smith another rebound.

Speaker 4 (01:14:31):
Yeah, they're finding a lot of open shots inside. He
calls up the way they're playing right now, but having
the extee.

Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
Hit pull up for three paties one come top of
the key. Oh my, thirty five for Miley Smith. Pinky
Burnett back the other way, wants to shoot a three
from the left wing short off the front of the rim.
Miley fighting for the rebound, but Schindler pulls it down

(01:14:58):
for Hartley Zakari Harrison gets it into the corner. Three
ball too strung from Mullins. Miley Smith the rebound three
on two the other way and now hardly able to
get back on defense. With twenty five seconds left to
the third forty five twenty nine, Uni Yoto.

Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
Coach Miller directing traffic.

Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
And Miley has it stolen away by Pinky Burnett. Burnette
to the rim, gets found shot missed off the side
of the rim, and Burnette will go to the line
for two. Pinky Burnette, who had twelve in the first half,
looking for her first points here in the second half.

Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
Yeah, it has not come easy here in the second
half for her. She's had some shots, but they just
haven't fallen.

Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
Shot up and good for Burnett her thirteenth point.

Speaker 4 (01:15:59):
They're saying, probably gonna have to see maybe starting a
fourth corner, some extended pressure by hardly.

Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
Fifteen points here in the third for Miley Smith. Second
shot coming up here for Burnett and a right handed
shot goes in fourteen now for Burnett and it's forty
five thirty one. Little full court man demand here is
Miley Smith brings it up the floor, flows by the defender,
Zakari Harrison to the right elbow, steps back, thought about

(01:16:28):
the three miles it to the basket of the call.
She drew a foul and she'll have three free throws.
She knew she had to get rid of it. It
was well defended, but knowing where she was with the clock,
she just sent it to the basket and drew the foul.

Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
And Miley all by herselves out there at the free
throw line.

Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
Three shots coming for Miley Smith. First one all the way,
there's thirty.

Speaker 4 (01:17:01):
Six, the reminder Uniodo's going to get the ball coming
out of the quarter as well, and.

Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
They own the possession arrow currently, second one all the way,
they're short off the front of the rim. They had
the third one all the way from Miley Smith knocks

(01:17:27):
that one down, thirty seven for Miley Smith. A monster
third quarter forty seven thirty one. We go to the
fourth quarter here in Columbus. After this, we're gonna go
to Leeds and there's D three Regional Final on WKKJ.

Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Eight minutes left to play here from Columbus forty seven
thirty one Unioto Leeds looking for a trip back to
the state Final four for the first time. In thirty
one years. Miley Smith with a monster third quarter. She
sits at thirty seven tonight, just eight points away from
her career high, which she put in forty five back

(01:18:45):
on January tenth.

Speaker 4 (01:18:46):
Yeah, seventeen of fifteen shooting was Uniyoto, three of seven
from beyond New York and four of six from the
free throw line. They only had three turnovers there in
that quarter. Four thirteen was Hartley and they had five
in that quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:19:01):
Oh, Miley Smith trying to work around the defender Pinky
Burnett stepped in the back court and the violation going
over half court. And so a quick turnover to start
the fourth quarter, and I'll move the inbound spot here
a little bit closer to Hartley's basket. With seven fifty
six left in the game, Mullins, So bring it across

(01:19:26):
the timeline left point, throws into the corner, three ball
on the way to strong and an offensive rebound. Zakari
Harrison puts you back. No, gets her own rebound again
and put that one in.

Speaker 3 (01:19:39):
Harrison's really good player.

Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
I like the way she's aggressive and I can really
rebound the basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
Oh, Magnolia. Holbert being jumped by a double team taken
away by Pinky Burnett, three on one the other way,
Burnett on Miley Smith. Smith able to defend it and
get the basketball back Miley Smith into the left wing,
No one Guardinger pulls up for the three MISSISSII just
off the right, but it bounces out to Beard for three.
Berries it from the corner.

Speaker 3 (01:20:09):
She hasn't scored since the first quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
Tierra Beard. Ball came right to her in the corner
and nobody else was around able to knock it down
fifty to thirty three uniodo inside seven minutes to play
bounce past middle of the lane down the right side
in a foul called as Standard was headed to the
rack for Hartley show a head to the free throw
line after the foul. First of the quarter for either team.

Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
Yeah, really, Standard and Schindler have really done a good
job inside in the second half. We are being more
aggressive on the offensive end.

Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Shoo Addison Standard one for one at the line so far,
had a three point play in that last quarter. Man
too strong here on the first one.

Speaker 4 (01:20:59):
Seven of twelve from the free throw or seven of
thirteen from the free throw line is partly today.

Speaker 2 (01:21:07):
Ben spires and she missed them both rebound fought four
and Mullin's able to get inside position and get it
back for Hartley shot here missus. Miley Smith pulls away
the rebound. Six forty five left to play. Fifty to
thirty three. You can go to on top. Miley Smith
slings it into the right corner. Beard shot fake drives
right of the lane, hangs, shoots in and out. Rebound
loose ball taken by Dannison gets it out to Miley Smith.

(01:21:29):
But she traveled.

Speaker 4 (01:21:32):
Yeah, she thought about shooting that one and then looked
outside to find somebody open, and it was too late.

Speaker 3 (01:21:37):
You had already dragged.

Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
Her foot, by the way. The winner of this game
will play Thursday in the Final four at Wright State's
Nutters Center. That will be a one o'clock game against
either Akron Saint Vincent, Saint Mary or Toledo Notre Dame Academy.
That game being played at three o'clock today up in Alida.
Six and a half to play. Burnette with a long three,
can't get it to go. Hulbert the rebound for the Shermans,

(01:21:59):
pushes it here for Miley Smith had it knocked loose briefly.
Smith finds pier blow and the right lays it in.

Speaker 4 (01:22:05):
We had great transition there by Uniodo nineteen point lead.

Speaker 2 (01:22:10):
Burnette back the other way, gets the runner to go
middle of the lane sixteen for her fifty two to
thirty five Unyodo's lead. Six minutes to play left wing,
wide open three ball on the wood and he goes
down from the corner from Kylee Pucketer, first points of
the night. The Sherman faithfuller on their feet fifty five

(01:22:32):
thirty five, five forty five left at a time out
by Hartley.

Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
Yeah, you're feeling it now if you're a Uniodo. You're
five forty four away from the trip to the final four.

Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
Up twenty points, biggest lead of the night for the Shermans.
I believe at twenty points. And Kylie Puckett has been
out there playing her rear end off and she finally
gets the ball come her way and she nails a
huge triple late in this game for her first points.

Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:23:09):
I was just getting ready to say Uniota does not
have to be quick in shooting the ball here, and
they've come out in this quarter three for three shooting.

Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
Two of them have been three point attempts.

Speaker 4 (01:23:22):
Extended to lead now to twenty the largest of the
afternoon and.

Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
The Shermans trying to get back to the final four
for the first time since nineteen ninety five. Three regional
titles nineteen eighty seven, nineteen eighty nine and nineteen ninety five,
currently trying to win it's ninth regional title. Their last
was six years ago, four years ago. Excuse me, twenty
twenty two.

Speaker 3 (01:23:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:23:47):
Programming note, Unioda boys play Wednesday night against Circleville in
the regional semi finals. We'll have that here on WKKJAY
at six pm.

Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
So unyodo all over our railways.

Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
Naro Mullins trying to drive to the basket out of
the time out, got fouled. We'll go to the line
for two. Finally Smith will pick up her first foul. Yeah.
How about the boys and the girls having an incredible run,
kind of like the Circleville Boys and girls. Yeah, some
big time efforts out of all those teams. First shot,

(01:24:24):
missus Tirkle little.

Speaker 4 (01:24:25):
Girls already in the final four. So those school districts
that have to deal with some possible letting out early,
so ifybody can get to those games, because this would
be a one o'clock start for the Union, Go do
girls on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
Second went on the way from Mullins will rattle home
her fourth point of the night fifty five thirty six,
and the Shermans had a hard time getting it up
the floor. Turn it over, just a miscommunication there on
the pass and now Pinky Burnette will end out in
front of her own bench, balms it to the other

(01:25:01):
side of the floor to Mira Mullins, who brings it
across the timeline left to right, turn around jumper from
Schindler right at the free throw line, knocks it down.

Speaker 3 (01:25:09):
Yeah, like I said her and Standard has played well
here in this half.

Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
Sherman's with it up fifty five thirty eight, five fifteen
left Miley Smith for three right wing in and out rebound,
long rebound. Holbert gets it back to Smith three on
the way, makes this one.

Speaker 3 (01:25:29):
You give her multiple shots. He's fired gone nail.

Speaker 2 (01:25:34):
For eighth three Tonight She's sitting on forty fifty eight
to thirty eight. Back to a twenty point game for
the Shermans inside five minutes to play. Schindler right side
of the lane, can't get it to go Smit the
rebound three on two. The other way, she'll pull it out.
Holbert will bring it across the line. Maggie Holbert two

(01:25:57):
points tonight, but she's run the point well under the
right wing. Pucket dribbles backhead of the key, bounce past,
trying to get Smith going to the basket, but it
went off the shoe of a Hartley Hawk, and now
Hartley sends it right back to Pucket. Now Miley Smith
low on the right, lays it in forty two from
Miley Smith sixty to thirty eight.

Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
Sherman's lead forty two points, three.

Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
Away from her career high and a whistle at a
time out, four fifteen left to play. Sherman's on top,
sixty to thirty eight. Here are the D three Regional Final.

Is she stepped in front of the pass, Miley Smith
brings it up the floor for the Sherman's Under four
Minutes to Play Crossover dripple working on Pinky Burnette gets
to the right side of the lane, swing past to
the corner. Three ball goes down. Col Holbert sixty three
thirty eight Shermans three and a half to play Burnett

(01:28:18):
long two jumper right of the lane. No Miley Smith
another rebound.

Speaker 3 (01:28:23):
Yeah, if we had a.

Speaker 4 (01:28:24):
Good stack guy, we'd probably see Miley Smith nearing a
triple double.

Speaker 2 (01:28:27):
Here, she's had one this year. She's been close a lot,
got a double double the other night. Here's a three
from Beard in the right corner. Can't get it. Miley
Smith's trying to snatch away the rebound from Pinky Burnette,
but Burnette comes out of the pile with it into
the right wing.

Speaker 3 (01:28:42):
Think for Eisen is expensive. Think again.

Speaker 22 (01:28:45):

Walk in, run in, pogo sticking teleport if you can.
Right on the back of a roller brading yagger one,
can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
Sixty sixty six forty Unioto leads after the Beard triple.
Here's a long three from Hartley and it's gonna go down.
I thought it was going to stop on the flange,
but finally went down the hole.

Speaker 3 (01:29:13):
That was a two by Schindler there.

Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
So Schindler with her second bucket of the quarter and
a foul out near half court on Burnett trying to
force Miley Smith along that sideline. Aubrey Kelly and Addison's
standard will check in for Hartley. With two twenty two left, Binkie,
Burnett and Ella Schindler checking out for the Hawks. Sixty

(01:29:40):
six forty two. Miley Smith, I'll bringing it across the
floor against Mullins, a little stuttered step, tribbles, She crosses
over now Holbert and Matthew up top. Back to Holbert
left point, gives it the Pucket, who dribbles backhead of
the key and into the right wing. With her right
hand gets a screen from Miley's Smith into the corner

(01:30:00):
now trying to get it to Smith going down the lane,
and it was loose. Wiley could just get her hand
on it and it rolls out of bounds back to
Hartley with two oh one left.

Speaker 4 (01:30:10):
Now Matthew going out of the game. What a great
game by H. Matthey here this.

Speaker 2 (01:30:15):
Afternoon, less than two minutes to play. Hartley with the
basketball standard underneath, gives it up. Mullins jump her left
of the lane, rattles in and out Miley Smith another rebound,
sixty six forty two. Sherman's won forty five left tap

(01:30:35):
with the final four Thursday at one on the line
and had a time out by Yine Yodo. Sherman's a little
not quite on the same page on the floor there for.

Speaker 4 (01:30:48):
They get a full time out here by coach, I
think he wants to get some subs in the game there, but.

Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
He uh was going to get a.

Speaker 4 (01:30:58):
Maybe a trap there, so then you ended up calling
timeouts and now he's won. Got two subs coming into game.
I think thirty three and twenty three for U Niota
if you have those on Gloucester.

Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
Chloe Fisher and Piper Frump, both seniors.

Speaker 4 (01:31:17):
Yeah, you're up twenty four. I know it's hard to
relax as a coach when you're up twenty four. Here
you would say, hey, you're up twenty four with a
minute thirty seven to go, but you know, it's it's
hard to relax in a situation like this, and you're
always thinking about what's coming next and what plays coming
next week. It's time for Uniota just to you know,

(01:31:38):
relax and enjoy.

Speaker 3 (01:31:40):
Yeah, if the.

Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
Fans are on their feet and enjoy the music here
at Ohio Dominican And I mean every time Hartley, a
really good basketball team has made any kind of threat,
the Shermans have answered and then some an unbelievable performance
from Miley Smith forty two points and when the surrounding

(01:32:03):
cast has been needed to score, they've come through in
a big way as well. Hulbert will back it out
for the Shermans, gets a screen off the right side,
Holbert crossover at the right elbow, jump her from the
left elbow from Dent Wiler doesn't go rebound Hartley Zakari

(01:32:23):
Harrison will push it up to Florida Aubrey Kelly, who
just checked in. Kelly to the free throw line, dumps
it out long free on the way from standard, comes
up short and it'll go out of bounce back to Yenioda.

Speaker 4 (01:32:33):
I think we're gonna get Miley Smith out of the
game here.

Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
Dannison will check in. Miley Smith will check out with
forty two points, jumping on our way to the bench,
raising her arms to get the Uniota faithful into it
twenty in the first half, twenty two in the second half.
Eight triples, two three point plays, and it's gotta be

(01:32:57):
sitting on at least a double double, if not a
triple double tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:33:00):
Yeah, and again, this is our senior year.

Speaker 4 (01:33:02):
And you know they've had a few good teams here
at Uniodo during her time, but just havn't got to
that final four, and here her senior year, she's able
to get there.

Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
Pulbert passed across the lane, knocked loose, picked up by
Hartley on the fire side, headed to the basket. Mira
Mullins will take it herself, runs over a defender Josta Foules,
the shot goes off the left side of the basket.
Bet Wiler will pick up a foul for Uniyodo, and
Mira Mullins will go to the line. With six points
so far today, I.

Speaker 4 (01:33:33):
Think uh coach just doesn't want to take Maggie out
because he wants to make sure they can get the
ball off the floor.

Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Mullins bends and fires missus the first and the Unioda
fans starting to chant final four. Forty point eight seconds left.
Mullen's second free throw off the side of the rim
knocked out of bounds off of the Shermans, so Hartley

(01:34:07):
will inbound under their own basket. With just a tick
under forty seconds left, Mullins in the left wing, Towns
pass left block, and Schindler able to knock it home
on the turnaround jumper.

Speaker 3 (01:34:26):
We've got hurt Well six points all the way the
fourth court.

Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
Twenty seconds left in this one is Holbert brings it
across the half court stripe. Hartley still defending, but not
like you're used to scene some younger players in the game.
Pulbert backs it out, Hartley waves the white flag. What
a game three two one. For the first time since

(01:34:55):
nineteen ninety five, the yune Yodo girls basketball is a
regal champion and ahead of to the final four.

Speaker 4 (01:35:05):
Great job here by Uniota this afternoon, defeating a really
good Artley team in the regional final and now they're
get to go on to the state final four.

Speaker 2 (01:35:20):
What a game from Miley Smith and company. Well managed
from start to finish and they win sixty six to
forty four. They'll cut down the nets briefly, we'll take
a quick break, and hopefully here from head coach Jeff Miller.

iHeartRadio goes one on one with Taylor Swift on connecting
to old feelings when performing her songs.

Speaker 24 (01:38:00):
I think that for the sake of the fact that
I know people want to hear those songs, you should
go back to those places emotionally and kind of channel
what you were feeling when you originally wrote it. So
you kind of have to plug into channeling and old emotion,
which is just kind of the same thing that actors
do when they're on camera.

Speaker 15 (01:38:16):
Keep listening to iHeartRadio for more of Taylor Swift and

Presented by This is the postgame report on ninety four
Country WKKJA. Today's game is presented by Accurate Heating, Cooling
and Plumbing. Now, let's head courtside. Here's Lou and Chris Postage.

Speaker 2 (01:38:42):
Becker at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. Jacob Wise with
you along with Lou Postage. Sidney newsomme back in studio
UNI Yota four after a sixty six forty four win
over the Bishop Hartley Hawks, And what a game, both
teams leaving everything out there on the floor. And I
gotta believe one of the artiest things as an athlete,
especially if you're a senior, is you get to a

(01:39:03):
game like this, emotional game, hard fought game, you lose,
and then you have to go accept your medal out
there in the moment. I'm sure once you get away
from a little bit, they're glad to have that and
then fun to look back on the run that they had.
As Bishop Partley finishes nineteen and seven, UNI Yoda goes
to twenty five and two as they await to pick

(01:39:25):
up their district or their regional championship trophy and their medals.
The Gold State of Ohio on the OHSA Green lanyard.
Scoring in this one four Hartley. They're led by Pinky Burnett.
No surprise, she had sixteen, but you hold her to sixteen,
you feel pretty good about your chances. Uniota did a

(01:39:46):
pretty good job with her. She only scored four points
in the second half, and only one of those was
a field goal. Eleven for Sakari Harrison, six from Mira Mullins,
six from Ella Schendler, five from Addison Standard for the Shermans,
led by Miley Smith's outstanding effort of forty two points

(01:40:06):
twenty in the first half, twenty two in the second half,
eight three pointers, had two three point plays. If she
wanted it, she got it here in this one. Today
Elsewhere Kierra Beard with twelve points, two big threes in
the fourth quarter, five points from Magnolia Holbert, for from
Gillian Matthew, and three from Kylelee Puckett, scoring by quarters.

(01:40:30):
Unioto came out hot to start the game. They outscored
Bishop Hartley nineteen to seven in the first quarter, and
then Hartley battled back and got that thing a lot
closer at halftime than a lot of folks here thought
it was going to get to twelve seven. They outscored
Unioto in the second quarter to make it a twenty
six seventeen halftime score, just a seven point lead. Then

(01:40:51):
Uniota comes out big in the third twenty one to twelve.
They outscore Hartly to take a forty seven thirty one
lead into the fourth quarter, and the Shermans outscore Hartly
nineteen thirteen in the fourth quarter for the sixties six
to forty four victory. For Uniyota, it's their fourth regional
title and they make their fourth Final four appearance Thursday

(01:41:16):
at the Nutters Center at Wright State at one o'clock
against either Acron Saint Vincent, Saint Mary or Toledo Notre
Game Academy Uniota girls now getting their medals. Who's there?
Introduced one by one?

Speaker 4 (01:41:32):
I remember one of their teammates not here. Today's Charlotte
Dennis again. Hopefully she can rejoin them come Thursday. But
a big part of this regional final team not here today.

Speaker 2 (01:41:46):
I'll make sure to hold a medal for her. Talking
with coach Miller before the game as Miley Smith gets
a pig cheer from the Unioda fans, Coach Miller optimistic
that Charlotte will be able to play in that game
on Thursday if things are going the way that they
feel that they are going. So hugs. They've got the

(01:42:06):
ladder out here underneath the basket, and once they get
these medals handed out to everyone, Matt Combs here the
athletic director as well. He's got a big basketball team.
I'm coming up here very soon on the boys side.

Speaker 4 (01:42:18):
Yeah, he's got a lot of stuff on his plate
right now. He's now dealing with Final four preparations as
an athletic director and also regional semi finals as a
head basketball coach.

Speaker 3 (01:42:31):
But you know, hey, I'm sure he's glad to have
all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
This is the kind of busy schedule that he'll take
in a heartbeat. And you know, Matt is just ecstatic
for the student athletes and his colleagues on the coaching staff.
And Jeff Miller's been here a long time. In his

at Uniodo, and he tacks on a regional title here.
As they get ready to cut down the nets, we'll

Speaker 26 (01:43:26):
Marty Markowitz had his share of problems, troubles at work,
a failing relationship, his parents had recently died, and so
Marty decided to get some professional help. In the summer
of nineteen eighty one, he walked into the office of
a psychiatrist named Ike Kershkoff.

Speaker 2 (01:43:47):
I go into his office and we looked at each
other and he said, okay, why are you here.

Speaker 26 (01:43:53):
Marty Likedike and Ike well, he seemed to see something
in Marty. At the end of the first session, he said,
I'm going to take you on as a patient.

Speaker 3 (01:44:02):
And he says, you know, I don't do that with everybody.

Speaker 26 (01:44:05):
But this psychiatrist, it would turn out, wasn't like other psychiatrists.

Speaker 3 (01:44:10):
He cut me off from everybody. So the only person
I could turn to was doctor Reich, and from the
moment Marty started seeing him, he began to change.

Speaker 20 (01:44:20):
We didn't see him, I mean he lived around the corner,
and like suddenly we didn't go there anymore, Like he
wasn't coming over anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:44:26):
It's as if somebody died.

Speaker 26 (01:44:27):
If Marty Markowitz had known what he was walking into
when he first visited that office, he probably would have
walked right out the door and never come back. This
is a story about power control and turning to the
wrong person for help for more than twenty nine years.

Speaker 27 (01:44:46):
When I constructed me to buy this house, I told me, no,
you can't use the master bedroom.

Speaker 3 (01:44:51):
You're going to stay in the back section of the house. Oh,
I'm trying to think.

Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
When it really got nuts, it really got crazy.

Speaker 26 (01:44:58):
I'm Joe No Sarah A columnists from Bloomberg Opinion.

Speaker 3 (01:45:02):
Okay, it's a wild story The Shrink next Door.

Speaker 1 (01:45:13):
This is the postgame report presented by Accurate Heating, Cooling
and Plumbing on ninety four Country WKKJA.

Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
Back here at Ohio Dominican University Uniodo wins the regional
title sixty six forty four over Bishop Hartley and came
out swinging in the first quarter. Hartley gave it their
best shot in the second quarter to make a run,
got it down to a seven point halftime game. Then
it hung around between what nine to eleven points there

(01:45:46):
for much of the third quarter, and then Miley Smith
kind of took over again late in the game, and
then some big threes from Hulbert and Puckett and Beard
in the fourth order. Now the Sherman's cutting down the
Nats after a regional game for the first time in
thirty one years. Wow again bears repeating one o'clock on

(01:46:11):
Thursday at the Nutter Center at right state make or
travel plans.

Speaker 4 (01:46:14):
Now, Yes and again programming note for WKKJ, we will
have a boys game on Wednesday, airtime five forty five,
six pm. Game start from the combo that is Circle
bl Tigers versus the Uniotos Shermans. And then Thursday we
will be at the Nutter Center one o'clock start. That'll

(01:46:35):
be a twelve to forty five hopefully airtime for the
final four the state semi finals.

Speaker 2 (01:46:42):
Always fun, be awesome, Always fund us a student when
you get out of school early, because they'll let you out.
They'll give you an excuse. Then you go, hey, we're going.
Usually the schools will you'll find a couple bus drivers
who are willing to pitch in and they'll bust some students.
So who knows if they'll do that. I imagine that
they were probably looking into it already.

Speaker 4 (01:46:59):
I'm going to call right now, Uniodo needs to just
call school off for Thursday because the boys game is
going to be laid on on uh Wednesday. Just just
give them the day off on Thursday. If anybody needs
some help with that, just to have them call me.

Speaker 2 (01:47:14):
Sherman's cutting down the nets, making sure they leave enough
for their teammates.

Speaker 4 (01:47:18):
Here, getting coach Miller just casually walking over like nothing's
just happened. Here.

Speaker 3 (01:47:26):
He's calm and collected and everything here.

Speaker 2 (01:47:28):
Where is that one ranked for you in terms of
some of the best games you've been a part of.

Speaker 3 (01:47:33):
I'd say number one, Jacob.

Speaker 8 (01:47:38):
Do you tell my emotions right now?

Speaker 3 (01:47:39):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (01:47:41):
I honestly, honestly, I'm just so so happy for the kids.

Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
You know.

Speaker 8 (01:47:46):
I hate to say this. I experienced it as a.

Speaker 19 (01:47:48):
Player and and for them to be able to get
to experience it is what I really wanted for them
because I just told Dan Raymie, Uh, this didn't start
in October.

Speaker 8 (01:47:59):
I mean this art, you know, back when they were
in fourth and fifth grade is when this started. And
the work they put in.

Speaker 19 (01:48:05):
It's almost like you finally see your reward now that
you've kind of reached that spot.

Speaker 2 (01:48:10):
I mean, and now you know, now the job.

Speaker 3 (01:48:12):
Is, we're there.

Speaker 19 (01:48:15):
Now, let's go ahead do something a little bit special.
You mean, let's you know, we're not going to chuck
it in and say, hey, we're going to find a four. Now,
we're gonna go back and prepare and we're gonna come
after someone Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:48:24):
A little nicer to have a little more time to
prepare versus one day off between.

Speaker 3 (01:48:28):
Yeah, I'm not a fan. I'm not a fan of one.
I want to least.

Speaker 8 (01:48:31):
I want at least three. Three is my magic comber
to prepare.

Speaker 2 (01:48:35):
So I'm about Miley Smith today.

Speaker 3 (01:48:36):
Just what she does.

Speaker 2 (01:48:38):
She wanted it, she got it.

Speaker 8 (01:48:39):
I don't even know what Honestly, I don't even know
what to say.

Speaker 19 (01:48:42):
I mean, like, I mean, I've watched a ton of
basketball my day you're talking about a regional finals. She
just basically said, here, let me, let me do my thing,
you mean, and uh, when she came over to the
end of the bench, I'm like, it might have been
the best Tica performance I've ever seen in the regional final.

Speaker 8 (01:48:58):
She says, I just chucking it today. I'm like, yeah,
but it was fighting the bottom of the net.

Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
So she slips down and the air goes out of
this place. Oh, and she's she's clearly in pain. She
was able to get back up, and it seemed like
after that she flipped the switch and she had a
look in her eye that if she scores forty two tonight,
you guys gave up forty four, you're gonna do pretty.

Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
Well with that.

Speaker 8 (01:49:19):
And you know, I said that we played hardly early
in the year.

Speaker 3 (01:49:23):
Here it was in this gym.

Speaker 19 (01:49:26):
She went down in the second quarter and didn't get
to finished the game. And when that happened, I just thought, oh,
my goodness, don't tell me. I'm like watching this thing again.
I mean, but when I got out there and she's
like this, I'll be good.

Speaker 8 (01:49:35):
I just need a minute.

Speaker 3 (01:49:38):
I didn't know.

Speaker 19 (01:49:38):
Good, We're gonna come back out and put hanging forty
two on someone, but obviously her good and my good
are two different facts.

Speaker 4 (01:49:44):
Well, coach, you could tell the emotion on her when
she came out of the game. You know, she this
four year starter for you, and she's been on some
good teams that didn't get it to the final four.
Finally she gets there, her and Maggie as seniors, and
you could just tell how excited and elated.

Speaker 19 (01:50:00):
Yeah, I mean, like I said, it's like it's like
the paycheck for them after the the you know, like
I coached those two in aau I think in fourth grade.
I mean, and uh, just to see it now for them,
it's just I mean, it's really really great feeling for me.

Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
To see what that they've accomplished.

Speaker 4 (01:50:17):
We'll coach you congratulations Thursday. I mean that's a special environment.
Absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 19 (01:50:26):
I think, you know, we'll get the winner of Saint Vincent,
Saint Mary, and Toledo Notre Dame Academy.

Speaker 2 (01:50:32):
So I think they played three.

Speaker 8 (01:50:33):
It's probably going on right now.

Speaker 19 (01:50:34):
We'll start doing our homework here about five o'clock.

Speaker 2 (01:50:37):
So coach, enjoyed a little bit. We appreciate the time.
Thank you, guys, appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (01:50:41):
We'll see you on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
Thanks Union and a head coach Jeff Miller with us.
After a sixty six forty four win in the regional
championship over Bishop Hartley and the Shermans headed to the
state final four on Thursday at one o'clock against either
Accron Saint Vincent, Saint Mary or Toledo Notre Dame. They're
playing right now and Miley Smith's gonna join us here. Miley,

(01:51:07):
sorry for the sweat from your head coach there on
the headphones as we put them on here, But you know,
you go down tweak the knee a little bit going down.

Speaker 8 (01:51:14):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:51:15):
It was like slippery on the court right there, and
I just fell last a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:51:19):
Farm.

Speaker 2 (01:51:19):
Did you kind of flip a switch after that and
take over the game?

Speaker 3 (01:51:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:51:22):
I know. I was like, I'm not getting hurt of
this game because last time in Cleveland I got hurt.

Speaker 3 (01:51:25):
So I was like, I'm not doing this game. Well.
Your senior year, you finally get to go to the
final four.

Speaker 4 (01:51:31):
You could tell as you were coming out of the
game the emotions let out.

Speaker 3 (01:51:34):
It's gotta feel good. Yeah, it was awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:51:36):
It's something that we've dreamed us since freshman year and
we accomplished uff.

Speaker 3 (01:51:39):
So I'm very proud of our dreaming.

Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
Well, the camaraderie with your group, it just seems like
everybody has such a buye in the effort. I mean,
I think there were four or five times tonight where
there's four or five of you all on the floor
going after a loose ball in this game.

Speaker 8 (01:51:51):
It was a great team effort tonight. My teammates trusted
to me.

Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
I trusted to my teammates, and we came out.

Speaker 3 (01:51:55):
With the one tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:51:56):
And you were without one of your teammates here tonight.
Hopefully she can rejoin you that on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (01:52:01):
Yeah, I hope she. I think she'll be.

Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
Back for sure. All Right, awesome, thank you for the time. Congratulations,
Thank you appreciate.

Speaker 3 (01:52:07):
We'll get Maggie in here. Another senior starter for you
and I Yodo Hi.

Speaker 2 (01:52:13):
You had a chance to breathe yet, Yeah, I'm good.
Or you handle the point quite a bit on Thursday
and then again here today, two teams that really pressure
the ball. Yeah, I mean, how are you able to
just kind of stay calm and find your teammates.

Speaker 5 (01:52:27):
Well, I think the most important thing is, like they
can apply pressure up front, but we always have an outclass.
You know, I have trusted every single person I.

Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
Passed the ball to on this sport.

Speaker 5 (01:52:35):
You know, not everybody's like the best ball hand on
the best shooter, but I can trust they're going to
make a smart decision. They just get us out of
that pressure. I mean, you instantly just kick it out
anywhere and we're just going to be right back where
we need to be.

Speaker 4 (01:52:44):
In the second half, you made two big shots, so
you had a two pointer there and then the three porter.
Those are big for your team because team's really converging
on Miley and you stepped up bigger.

Speaker 3 (01:52:53):
Than you like.

Speaker 5 (01:52:54):
Milla's always going to be our score. You know, she's
just the best player out there, and you know I
can always be confident what she's doing. But all these
points will come when they need to come. You shall
have to make sure you keep your role player know
what you're doing, and make sure you know what you're doing.
I mean, my role this game wasn't really to be
a score. You know, I tried sometimes, but I mean
it happens. You get blocked, but you know you always
have minly coming back and then my time always came
where I had the two big shots.

Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
So I'm prout of the team thrower.

Speaker 4 (01:53:14):
Your senior year. You've been on some good teams. You
haven't get to the final four yet, and you'll finally
get there.

Speaker 5 (01:53:20):
I know, this is just so amazing. It's been like
thirty one years for us, and I just think that
this was an amazing thing to be a part of,
and I knew that we would.

Speaker 2 (01:53:26):
Make history one day.

Speaker 3 (01:53:27):
Well, enjoy the trip, thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:53:30):
Is there a point tonight, maybe late one of those
late timeouts for some substitutions where you're able to take
a breath through up twenty you can take in the atmosphere,
huge fans support here.

Speaker 5 (01:53:38):
At half time, I came back out and finally caught
my brother and I'm like, oh, this is amazing. But
also just whenever we're doing the starter Elphins and everybody's
sync up and you know, I can just tell they're
all here, or even just whenever the clock hadn't even
ran out yet, since I let the fans in, it's
just you and you have the fans coming in and
like they don't stop flooding the stands. It's just it's
just an amazing thing to be a part of.

Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
Very good congratulations on the win, good luck on Thirsty.
Congratulations Maggie Holbert with us here as the Shermans again
win the regional title and Lou, it's a pretty fun
one to.

Speaker 4 (01:54:08):
Call it, Sure was, and it's great to when you
talk to the athletes like that, just their their you know,
excitement in their voice and you know it's it is
a culmination.

Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
It's one of those things where yes, we finally made it.

Speaker 2 (01:54:21):
Yeah they're there, And my coach said, we're not just
going to go there and be happy that we're there.
They're going to be competitive, and hey, why not make
it happen. You're there, might as well we'll try to win,
right to it. Sixty six forty four is the final
here in the regional championship game. Uni Yodo is a
regional champion and headed to the final four for the
first time in thirty one years. A lot of fun

(01:54:43):
to call this one. For Sidney k News, some big
thank you to her back in the studio and for
my partner Lou Postage. Jacob Wise here is saying so
long from Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, where Uni Yodo
for the first time in thirty one years, wins a
