(00:00):
There's a new term buzzing on the Internet, Dick.
Dual income? No, kid, you probably have an
opinion on these people or an opinion on people who have an
opinion on these people. America's birth rate has hit its
lowest point in more than a century.
Some are blaming it on infertility.
Others say the state of the world is causing couples to
think twice about having children.

(00:21):
Childless marriages could be a good thing if they were a result
of God's sovereign providential work.
Oh my God, can't even hear you. They like avocado toast and
brunches out and going to plays and having sweet vacations.
Yeah, you're probably super selfish.
Kids are better than brunch. Wrong.
And then there's another group of young couples that wants the

(00:43):
lifestyle of childless households and the lifestyle it
brings with it. Thanks.
Welcome to The DINK Side, the podcast about life, laughs and
living child free. We're a double income, no kids
couple navigating the up sounds and hilarious in betweens of
choosing a different path in a world that won't stop asking.
So when are you having kids? When are you having kids?

(01:07):
And I will answer for a lot of people in our life, which is
having kids at the top of this year.
That seems to be the popular thing that's happening right now
with so many people we know. Yeah, there's so many children
in the world that are new. There's.
A lot of kids, a lot of new kidsout there and so.

(01:30):
That's good for them. It is good for them.
Like there's a lot of people that are very happy about this.
We are happy for you if you're happy about this news.
There's also a handful of peoplewho we know we've had some
complications and that's, you know, that's a lot to deal with.
So we're thinking of those people.
But yeah, it always seems to to happen at the same time.

(01:52):
I don't know, is there was theresomething in the water like, OK,
there's January. So that means when was nine
months ago April? Yeah, March or April?
Yeah. What's going on in April,
people? April Fools.
Like, was this some kind of prank that you played on your
spouse? Congratulations pranks on you

(02:12):
were pregnant. Who knows?
I don't know. I don't know.
But I do have a question to start off the pod today with
because I've been thinking aboutit since it happened and I feel
like I got a lot of harsh judgement from you in this
moment and I'd like to bring it to the pod so we can iron it
out. And I'd like to get everyone
else's opinion as well. My question is this, is it not

(02:37):
OK if you're a pet parent to compare your pets to kids?
We were at a lunch. Well, hang on.
We were at a lunch with a friendand he was bringing up, they
just had a baby that he was bringing up some trouble they've
been having with the baby and they had to take it to the
doctor. And I said, Oh, yeah, we had to
take our dogs to the emergency vet.

(02:59):
And you, you looked at me with such harsh judgment, as if it
wasn't allowed. Yeah, because it was like, just
let him talk about this. We don't have to like, compare
the dog. Emergency vet visit.
But it wasn't comparison. I didn't say like, oh, that
happened to you? Check this out.
It's the same thing. It just, it just made me think

(03:20):
of it. But that I'm telling you, I was
there, I heard you and it came off as us saying we've been
stressed. We went to the emergency vet
like it came off as like, oh, you went to the doctor about
loose stool. Well, we went to the doctor
because we thought our dog wasn't breathing, you know?
Well, what? What's the big deal?

(03:41):
I don't think that's that offensive is.
It like he was like, we haven't been sleeping much and you're
like, yeah, we got up at 3:00 AMand went to the emergency bed.
It's like that was one night. OK, it's called relating to
other people. Maybe I shouldn't have said it.
I I've been, I've been feeling bad about it, but then also
thinking to myself, I don't needto feel bad about this.
I don't think it was like egregious, but I do think it was

(04:02):
like, you did the thing that people do when they have dogs
and other people have babies. It's like you he was talking
about an infant child and you were like, yeah, our dogs.
And it's like, that's fine, but I think it just should have been
a separate part of the conversation when he's like, oh,

(04:25):
how are you guys or whatever, Like, but you segwayed it right
after something he said about aninfant child.
So that's why I should bring outthe notepad and be like OK that
that just made me think of this.I'm going to write this down for
later. I don't know, it was kind of
like it was definitely a read the room moment.
I mean, I don't, but it wasn't anything dramatic.

(04:46):
Like I, I could understand your point if like, let's say
somebody has the kid broke a bone and they had to take him to
the hospital and they were really like scared and stuff.
I didn't use that kind of momentto compare.
It was just kind of like, oh, that's what's been going on with
you. This is what's been going on
with us. No, but it wasn't that he hadn't
said like and what's going on with you.

(05:07):
He was talking about new parent like woes.
And you were like, yeah, recently it's been crazy.
We went to the vet. Well, that that is what is going
on in my life, so I don't. I know but I'm just saying you
like interjected to relate but you related about a dog when

(05:29):
he's. Talking as.
An infant. I can't relate.
That's your point. I think it's just like not the
time to try to relate when he just had a kid like 4 weeks ago.
I guess, but I also like, it's weird and, and this is part of
the reason I bring it up. And I would, I would, I would
totally say this to this person's face if they were here

(05:50):
with us. I do find it very difficult at
times to to know what to say to parents when I'm trying to
relate to them and trying to talk to them about what's going
on in life other than just sit and be like, oh, wow, 'cause you
don't want to say like, oh, thatsucks, 'cause it doesn't suck.
They're happy they had a kid at the same time.

(06:12):
Yeah, but like. Being up at 4:00 in the morning
sucks. So you can just be like, you can
just say that or you can ask more questions.
I don't think you need to. That's like your own social
insecurity that you need to feellike you have to relate.
It's not relate as much as I don't know what to say next, you
know what I mean? What do you say next to anyone

(06:35):
talking about like a career you don't know anything about?
You just ask more questions. Yeah, but sometimes there's no
more questions to ask. You know what I mean?
I don't know. I think then just like change
the subject to not the dogs. But it is one of the situations
like, OK, so this particular person, they, they just had

(06:56):
their first baby and it is a massive life event, right?
Obviously. So I feel like anything I bring
to the table right now, at leastin this first little period of
time, is going to seem rather insignificant.
So I have a hard time knowing like, I, I'm not.
I just feel like anything I say is going to be like, yeah, but
we just had a baby, you know what I mean?

(07:18):
Yeah, but it's not like the SNL sketch of trying of like A1
upper, like you don't need to match the ten with a 10.
You could, just you don't. I know it just feels
insensitive. Felt like no, it that's what it
felt like. It's insensitive to try to.
That's what I'm I'm literally saying.

(07:39):
It's insensitive to try to matchthe infant thing because nothing
can match it. So it's the appropriate thing is
to be self aware that nothing does match it instead of bring
up the emergency. So don't speak is what you're
saying. So basically when they share
something I just go oh that sucks and then just sit there.
I'm saying don't try to match it.

(08:00):
The the I wasn't the emergency vet thing was you trying to
match it. No it was not I I swear to God I
I am not that calculated. If if I was a life would be a
lot easier. No, but it was you trying to be
like, Oh well, what's going on for us that's even like this,
you know, as important. No that I I know how it could

(08:24):
seem that way but it just one reminded me of the other and I'm
like oh check this out. If anything it was the whole
point of my story was that's a legitimate reason to go to the
doctor. Ours.
We went and found out our dog had a cold.
How stupid. It was meant to be like a Ying
and Yang, you know what I mean. Anyway, I think the Internet
will agree with me. No, you're like, oh, your baby,

(08:47):
You were afraid your baby was sick?
Well, our dog had a cold. Yeah, it's supposed to be like,
how absurd is that compared to what you just said?
Yeah, and you told me it. Didn't land.
I yeah, I'm saying it didn't read as that in the moment.
So in the moment I go, Oh yeah, totally the same to like cut the

(09:11):
the there was no tension but like to just be self aware.
This is why I brought it up. This is why because I've been
thinking about it since it happened.
And I know that it's shocking everyone, but I still stand by
my position. Yeah.
Oh, oh, OK. Yeah, what you do What?

(09:32):
I stand by my opinion from before, yeah.
Well. Oh, Speaking of opinions, I
stand by Don't let your kids geta letter box while I'm on there
'cause I got one finally and Oh yeah, I listen.
I think you're the only one thatfollows me.

(09:52):
Maybe it should stay like that for the betterment of humanity.
One of my first reviews ever wasMarty Supreme.
I ripped it a new asshole and bythat I mean I think I just wrote
this movie made me want to kill myself or like I don't
something. Of that nature.
Or I took this movie and shoved it up a stranger's ass.

(10:12):
Or. Something like that.
I'm not giving like highbrow critique.
I'm having like my own little tantrum on letterbox.
If you feel like following it, great, and if you don't, that's
probably best. Well, I think that's the whole
point of Letterbox, which is whyI like it so much, because if I
wanted to read movie reviews, like from film critics, I would

(10:34):
just go to someboringwebsite.com, which
I've never been into. And I, my least favorite part
about going to a film school, even though I started TV, was
talking to film snobs who had, like, their highfalutin nonsense
review of a movie. And I'm like, I don't even know
what you're saying. So I love on Letterbox when

(10:56):
somebody will rate something three stars and be like, Bradley
Cooper's ass hit in this movie. You know what I mean?
I like that. That is like, you're meeting me
where I'm at. I like that, Yeah.
That's what I want too. I am going to Sundance tomorrow
for like 9 days and I don't knowlike should I rate everything I

(11:19):
see on letterbox or should I just.
Absolutely. Will it even be on letter
available to rate on letterbox? It I think that it will be like
when you and I saw a couple of shorts a couple weeks ago that
were at Sundance and those were on.
The oh then then it should be fine.
So. I feel like they'll be up.
There, I'll rate the stuff, but I'm a little worried.

(11:42):
I guess it's good in the sense that I think that Sundance is
not a place that you bring children.
So like I. Don't.
I didn't even think about. That I don't think I'll be
interacting with many children during this experience, so
that's good. I am worried because every
screening there is like sold outpacked and like historically

(12:04):
sold out packed theaters have knock on well for us, however,
this is like where you're. Respectable.
Critics and people in the entertainment industry.
So hopefully people will be respectful and it's less like
people bringing their like cousin that's cross faded and

(12:25):
like throwing popcorn towards each other and like vaping in
the theater 'cause you have to like get credentials to get into
these screenings. So I guess follow me on
Letterbox for that. But I am worried I'm going to be
movied out by the end of this. I'm you're seeing as it sits
right now you have tickets to 9 movies.

(12:47):
I do. In the next 10 days.
And from my perspective, I'm deeply concerned that this is
it. Like I think that this might be
the last time you ever go see a movie, which is a severe bummer
to me as someone who loves goingto see a movie.
No, what if I'm just reinvigorated to see more

(13:08):
movies? I hope that that is the case,
but something tells me that it might not be.
I don't know. I just I, I see a future.
Even if you have a good experience it where?
And I ask you, hey, do you want to go see a movie this weekend?
You'd be like, I don't know. I just saw so many, you know, I
don't know. I think it'll be a while.

(13:28):
I think it's different because these are like artsy, new,
whatever movies and they're not just like blockbuster thriller
hits. My point exactly that if
anything the point hits even more because the artsy fartsy
stuff is never what you like to go see.
I think I'm when I'm acting. Very bummed out.

(13:51):
Yeah, I've been to Sundance two other times and both times I
think I handled it better than when I just go on a like a
Sunday afternoon to the. Theme.
Why is that? I think I'm in a frame of mind
that I'm like consuming it for different purposes than just
entertainment. There's something to think about

(14:14):
there. Maybe that's the lens that you
should look through every time you go to the movie.
No, because when I go to the movie with you, I'm going for a
good time. When I'm going to Sundance, I'm
what? When I'm going to Sundance, I'm
going for like career purposes. When I'm going to the movie with

(14:35):
you, I'm going to be entertained.
So when you go to the Sundance Film Festival, the festival a
lot of people wish they could goto, you're going, 'cause it's
going to be a miserable time. That's.
The what? What is what?
I'm saying. So you only go to a movie for a
good time when you're with me. Any other time you see a movie,
you know it's going to be hell. That's the point.

(14:56):
I didn't say it's going to be hell, I just said I can go into
it with a more artistic mind frame.
Then when I'm going with you, I expect to leave happy.
What a ridiculous point. Whatever, just go to see the

(15:17):
damn movie and then whatever happens, happens.
It's not that big, big of a deal.
In everyday life, I don't want to be like, bummed out by the
movies. It's just a story.
It's not real, honey. I'm legit worried about my
mental health during this. Me too.

(15:38):
But what's weird about it is we like when we first started
dating 10 years ish ago, we wentto see a a a decent amount of
movies and. Yeah, but I would like cry
after, be in a mood after. You were fine.
You were fine because I think you were still trying to make a

(15:58):
good impression or something. Yeah, I wasn't being my real
self, I guess. I have a vivid memory of right
around when we first started dating.
This was, I think, just shortly before you moved in with me and
I I wanted to watch one of my favorite movies with you.
And you're like, yeah, let's do it.

(16:19):
And we sat down and watched it. It's a movie called Once, and a
small movie came out in like 2007 out of Ireland or
something. And we watched it.
And I'm like, wasn't that good? And like, that's a movie.
To this day, if I watch it, it'll bring me to tears.
I've probably seen it 20 times. And I turned to you and you're
like, and I knew you hated it. I knew you hated it.

(16:43):
You, you couldn't, you literallycould not wipe that look off
your face. You couldn't stand.
It was that, the sci-fi one. No, that was a completely
different, I hated it experience.
That was close Encounters of theThird Kind.
Yeah, I think, I think you said when we walked out of that one.
I'm glad you liked it. I'm glad you had a good time.

(17:08):
Here's the thing. I also think this has to do with
the stages of mental health issues that I've gone through in
our relationship. OK, It depends on how stable I
feel, and if something like putsme off kilter that I'm watching,

(17:28):
then I clearly am less stable than I was when I was watching
these other ones. I don't know.
I don't know if that's it. I don't know.
I don't. Think or like when you're first
dating, you're trying to like really embrace the other
person's interests and see what if you like them.
And so I was really giving it a chance.
And now we've reached the position of our relationship
where you reject them entirely. No, we definitely have common

(17:51):
ground. We watch a lot of shows together
and we see a lot of movies together.
What sucks though, is a core memory of mine is seeing the
movie Marcel the Shell with shoes on during the pandemic.
It's now one of your favorite movies.
Objectively great movie. I yeah, but a core memory is
that we both wept openly many, many times.

(18:15):
Our, our we were crying so much like we were fountains.
And I don't know that we'll everhave that experience together
again, because you just don't want to do it.
I. Same thing with the movie Up,
yeah. I went.
I didn't see you up with you, though.

(18:35):
Did you think that you saw the movie Up With Me?
I don't know what year it came out again.
Who was sitting next to? You, I don't know.
I was crying a lot though. It was a different man, I guess.
Yeah, it came out in 2009, so that might have been two people
before me. Yeah, I don't know.
Again, we don't remember life before each other.

(18:57):
Oh, it's so sweet. Is it Anyways, yeah.
And also, I just want to say like, I, it's thank God that
again, we're not going to be parents because I have seen some
of the programming of my friendsthat have kids, the shows, the

(19:21):
children's shows, the, the over and over again, theme songs, the
singing, the bluey, the, it's a nightmare.
And I, I, how do you watch thoseshows?
I, I, I couldn't do it. That's where I draw the line.
I remember having a conversationwith a family member of mine

(19:44):
years ago and just asked them like, did you see I, I saw some
show, I don't remember what it was.
I saw some show or movie that I was like, oh, they would love
this. Like this is so up their alley.
And I asked them now, did you see this?
Was it the holidays or somethinglike that?
And they're like, not only have I not seen it, I haven't heard
of it. I haven't watched anything other
than Bluey or Paw Patrol for thelast. 10 years and I'm like, Oh

(20:09):
my Lord, cause those shows now too are so loud.
Like when we were kids we watched, I don't know, I was a
big Rugrats guy. I watched a lot of Arthur and
PBS and things like that. Hey Arnold, much quieter shows.
Now it's just like to keep the attention of kids who are used
to using iPads and stuff just loud and in your face and.

(20:33):
Yeah, I don't. I do you think that it's kind of
the, what is it called? The captors thing where you're
no, no, no, the other one, the captors thing where you start to
love your captor, What is it called?
Stockholm. So yeah, do you think it's like

(20:55):
Stockholm where you end up really getting invested in Bluey
because you're watching it all the time and you start like
quoting Bluey? Probably, yeah, it's.
Because you can't possibly be hearing it that many hours a
day. And then in Naco and Saints you
probably end up being like, I love this episode.

(21:16):
You also probably make up, like, storylines that don't exist.
Yeah. Like, I know.
Oh, this is this scene right nowis Bluey had just got into a
fight with his girlfriend and now he's walking in fresh off
that, you know? Something like that.
I wonder if it infiltrates your dreams and stuff too.
Oh, I imagine it does. I imagine you have nightmares
about Bluey. Or you just start like singing

(21:41):
the theme songs and stuff too inyour head.
Or like same thing with music because you can't listen to
stuff with bad words with kids. So I assume your taste in music
in the car goes to hell. Like you just don't know any of
the current songs or artists andyou're just like, well, I just
listen to Sesame Street now or whatever.

(22:02):
I don't know. I.
Mean, I also think that's a veryrecent thing because when I was
a kid, like when we were kids, my core memories are.
Metallica. ACDC, the Grease soundtrack,
Shania Twain, like there there weren't many, mostly because
like CDs had just become a thingso they didn't have like all
that stuff and now kids are justjamming kids Kidz bop and and

(22:26):
wheels on the bus and shit in the car.
Oh my God. Oh, maybe people are playing
them like Sabrina Carpenter and stuff.
I don't. Know maybe, maybe.
I do love those kidz bop songs though when they come out and
they're mega edited. Yeah, I used to have the Kidz
Bop CDs. Did you or no?

(22:47):
Not Kidz Bop then, now 16. Now that I call now, now I call
this music or. No, that's what I call music.
Now that's what I call music. Yeah, those were cool.
I like those. Those were fine.
But Sundance, you're going I I didn't even think about the kid
thing. I mean, I assume kids aren't
allowed. That would make sense to me.

(23:09):
But it's funny. You're going it's it's in Utah.
It's the last year it's in Utah. And we saw your mom the other
day before, before you left on the trip and she fired a warning
shot across your bow. And I want to say this like I
think it's very important every human being on the planet look

(23:29):
over their shoulder and make sure they're not being followed
and stay safe and all and use precaution and blah, blah, blah.
That being said, your mom was very convinced that you will be
taken in Utah. Yeah, she's been watching a lot
of Instagram reels where people get kidnapped, I guess.
And she was like, you're always on your phone when you walk

(23:50):
around, like, you're going to get kidnapped or taken.
And yeah. And you for some reason, she
told herself, yes, I go running as a workout.
But she, like, made-up a narrative that I run at night,
which I literally don't think I've ever run at night ever.
The only time I can remember yourunning at night recently was

(24:11):
during the middle of the summer when it was still like light out
at 9:00 PM. Yeah, sure, but I don't run in
the pitch black. No, I've never.
I don't think you ever have. She was like you love to run at
night and I'm like what? I've never done that.
You're making up fear based likerandom accusations and I'm you
love. To run at night with cash

(24:31):
strapped to your back in the open.
Also, yeah, Park City, the the city that's known for kidnapping
women. Like it's what I think it's like
one of the safest cities in the US.
Like also sure. I mean, bad things can happen
everywhere. And I'm not saying it's a reason

(24:51):
to be like careless. And she's like watch your
drinks. And I and I'm going with a
friend that doesn't drink. So I was like, oh, well, my
friend doesn't even drink. Like we might not even go to
bars really. And she was not even a thing.
And she was like, yeah, but evenyour water, like, who knows?
And I'm like, oh, yeah, Park City where I can't drink water

(25:12):
safely. Like, I don't know.
I think it's, it's just like when you become a mom, it's a
universal chemical that switchesin your brain to like the
protecting chemical something ofI, we can.
I think it's science where you just assume that everything out
in the world is going to kill your child.

(25:33):
Yeah, no, I think it's, I think it is a scientific thing and it
happens to everyone. Like I to be clear, you and I
live in Los Angeles. It's a very big city and to this
day, if I go visit my my parentsand I suggest that we go and do
something near the city in Missouri, they're like, Oh, I
don't know, nothing, nothing never happens good at the city

(25:55):
after after dark. I'm like, that's where I live.
I live in the city. I live in the boy the biggest
city in the world. Like it's so it it I think
you're right. It's the switch that flips when
you become a mom or a dad. And but I also think that like
smartphones are not good for parents to have.

(26:16):
They're really not good for parents to have for so many
reasons. And one of them is it's just so
much fear mongering and. Well, yeah, when when my mom's
algorithm, she watches all of the kidnapping videos.
So then what does it send her more of?
More kidnapping videos. So then of course, she thinks
that people are getting snatchedevery second in a Target parking

(26:39):
lot because that's all her Instagram is feeding her.
So yeah, I guess she would thinkthat I'm going to be taken in
Park City. And I say this as a person who
watches and enjoys and listens to Dateline on occasion.
I don't. I don't do it a terrible amount

(27:00):
anymore. But like, there is something
about true crime that moms specifically or women like above
the age of 40 just can't stop watching it.
Are you lumping yourself in withthe women over 40?
Then because but I I'm not, I don't, I'm not constantly

(27:21):
watching it. That's the thing.
But it is a nightly ritual for alot of moms out there, my mom
included. And I don't as somebody who
like, I just, I want to know what like the the thought is
you, you are afraid of your kid getting stolen all the time.
Like it's something you're actually afraid of, yet you
watch. The thing is, do you think it's

(27:42):
going to like train you to learnhow to not do it?
Yeah, I think they think they'regoing to learn tips and tricks
to be safer or smarter, or if they are taken or their kid is
taken, how to handle it like they're prepping themselves.
Yeah, I just the human mind, it's a wonderful thing.

(28:04):
Yeah, but then it switches and Isend my mom reels about old
people getting scammed by AI because recently like people can
create like videos or whatever of you of your face.
So I was like, if someone sends you a video of my face saying

(28:26):
something like you need to FaceTime me or call me, like
it's not me, people can AI it. Yeah, I mean, that is, I think
we're just turning the corner onthat stuff too.
This. That's a little scary.
But it's also comes down to like, was there ever a situation
where I would just unsolicited send you a video of me talking
about something? Probably not.

(28:49):
Don't fall for it, you know? Right.
But who knows? The AI stuff is definitely
crazy. It's scary.
You know who I I think of, we'regoing to take a quiz here in a
second, but I think of often when we watch the show The
Secret Lives and Mormon Wives, this is a show about moms who

(29:10):
live in the Mormon community in Utah.
Where you're going, That's my main concern.
Are you going to become a Mormonor join some family as a sister
wife and never come back? Not that you're going to get
stolen. I'm worried about a family
stealing your heart, not your body.
I get and and my body, really. Well, and your body.
But when we watch that show The secret lives and Mormon Wives,

(29:33):
I'm I'm like, do they have kids?I know they have kids, but do
they? But do they have kids?
They're never on. They don't really feature their
kids on the shows which I guess I respect not putting their kids
on a reality TV show. But I am like at what point are
they being moms? Because it's never shown them

(29:56):
doing mom things. They're just going to a bunch of
events in full glam and gossiping about each other.
So I guess it's just like the hours that they're not filming.
They might be being moms but do they all just have 4 nannies or
what's the deal? Right.
And also are your if your kids are ever going to watch this
show, they're like so screwed. You're so fucking screwed.

(30:22):
And as I even sit and talk aboutit, I think I am like kind of
embarrassed that I like that show the secret Lives of Mormon
wives. I'm really kind of upset with
myself that I allow myself to watch it.
But The thing is, things like the traitors sometimes not that
good. And this season is is not that
great cast is uninteresting. So what else am I going to

(30:45):
watch? Mormon wives.
But do I have a fascination withMormons?
I don't know because I watch TheSecret Lives and Mormon Wives
and then Sister Wives. Yeah, do you really need that
answered for yourself? I don't know, it kind of should
I feel weird about that? Wait, are the sister wives

(31:06):
Mormon or are they just polygamists?
They were, they were a part of aMormon church, but then they
like split off. I don't really remember the
reason why. I think when they started having
marital problems, that's part ofthe reason, because you're not
allowed to have marital problems.

(31:26):
Right, you you have. To you know.
Or if you get divorced, which I guess he got divorced like 3
times at once a three peat then does the church disown you or
what's the deal? You have to go.
This is so I'm glad you asked. This is quite a big plot point
in season 19 or whatever it is right now.
You have to go to the church andask the church management or

(31:52):
elders or whatever you want to call it to give you a spiritual
release. So you can get a legal divorce
all you want, but you have to goand get a spiritual release from
the human beings, Not from God, but from the human beings that
run the church. To leave the church, or to get
divorced or to get. Divorced.
Actually, probably both, but to get divorced specifically.

(32:15):
What? Yeah, and, and sometimes they
say no. So if they say no, that means
you're spiritually still marriedto the person for the rest of
your life. What?
That's so weird why you have to sell them on the divorce and be
like yes you have to say yes like This is why.
Oh, and the other thing is that men are not allowed to ask for

(32:37):
one. What?
Just women. Why?
I don't know, isn't that weird? That's insane.
Isn't that the only weird thing about the Mormon church?
Yeah, that's all. It is Weird though, because
these on the Mormon Wives show, they're talking about like they

(33:00):
they talk about so much. They talk about anal and
vibrators and all this stuff andbut then they can't have coffee
and. Or alcohol.
And they don't drink, right? So it's like, but you're OK with
your kids seeing you talk about all this stuff someday, but you
but you don't drink, OK. I mean, that's the weirdest

(33:24):
thing with in general with I think a lot of not to get too
deep organized religion is like, where do you draw the line?
You know, you can't have, like you said, can't have coffee, but
I can have this can of sugar, Doctor Pepper, and that's
totally fine. What right?
Yeah, well, coffee's naturally occurring.

(33:44):
What? But imagine, this is what I
always think of. And yes, I know we both grew up
in kind of like religious families, but imagine growing up
as an infant to a full adult thinking that the Mormon church
teachings are just normal. Like, imagine not seeing it from

(34:07):
the outside and just being like, well, yeah.
Yeah. I mean, it's a yeah.
I would say it's traumatic when a lot of those people are
exposed to like the the real world in a lot of cases.
It's kind of. Culture shock.
And it's kind of just kind of like a cult, right?
Yeah, very much so. And maybe maybe some people

(34:28):
listening are like, whoa, broad generalizations.
But no, I mean, there's, there'sa lot of, in a lot of religions,
very cult like behavior. Sure.
Yeah, we'll make it even. You know what?
You thought that was broad? It's all religion.
Boom. Yeah.

(34:49):
But I it's, I, I can't look away.
I got to watch it. So maybe I do understand why
moms watch Dateline. I don't know.
Maybe it's all this is a full circle moment.
It's kind of coming together. OK, You found a quiz for us to
take on parentmap.com parent map.
Everybody knows the authority oneverything parenting.

(35:10):
Yeah, we it's the trusted sourcefor all parent everything I
think. So this is the should you become
a parent quiz. Now, Katie and I have said many
times over hundreds of times, thousands of times in our life,
we are not going to be parents. I don't care what you say.
You can say, oh, you're going tochange your mind to go to.

(35:31):
But if this quiz says we should, then I guess we have to.
All right. Are you ready?
It's only a few questions. It must be really easy to
determine here. I like how you didn't respond to
that what I said. If this quiz says we should
become parents, then I guess we have to.
Yeah, but I don't want to respond to that because if it's

(35:52):
legally binding, I want to see how I can phone the answers.
And so that's not reality. OK, answer or question number
one, has anyone ever watched youinteract with a small fragile
thing and said, Oh, you're goingto make such a good parent
someday? A No, quite the opposite, in

(36:13):
fact. B yes, it but it was Bertha.
Bertha is impressed when people can pick up a basketball without
popping it. You don't mess with Bertha.
C Everyone says how great I am or DI feel like my dog says that
to me every day. What?

(36:34):
What's your answer on this? One I think mine's I think
mine's B. It was Bertha, but like who is
that but. She doesn't know, right?
She doesn't get it. I would say I would say B as
well. OK.
Because it doesn't happen often, because most people like.
There's not many circumstances in where that would happen with

(36:54):
a stranger. Right.
And also usually people see the fear in my eyes when they try to
hand me a baby. Right, OK, next question, how
much do you enjoy sleep? Well A sleep is everything.
B I'll sleep when I'm dead, which will be soon because I
don't get enough sleep. C Everyone says how great I am

(37:16):
at it or D my dog snores a lot so I don't I don't get the best
sleep. It's either B or.
DI was going to say it's either B or D, but I, you know, you
don't sleep a lot sometimes because of busy, because of how
busy you are, but you do value sleep and you do like sleep.

(37:39):
So I don't think, I think D is your answer.
I think D is both of our answer.OK, so B and then D.
Because we don't generally have like a anti sleep kind of
rapport. How are you with bodily fluids?
Oh God. Oh, OK.
A I'm fine as long as they stay in the appropriate body.

(38:02):
BI would not say good. CI am pretty much a doctor or D,
my dog is pretty good at cleaning those up on his own.
I would say. B, not very good.
Yeah. For myself, no.
I just saw a movie earlier todaywhere there was blood.
There was a scene where somebodybleeds out and I got up and went

(38:24):
to the bathroom, 'cause I'm like, I don't, I don't want to
watch this. Yeah, when the.
Dog or cats have an accident or they puke or something.
I like gag while I clean it. Like I clean it, I clean it.
I clean it because I'm an adult person and who else is going to
clean it for me? But I'm gagging while I do it
and I'm going. OK.

(38:47):
Next question, are you OK with not spending money on yourself
for a while? No.
That's not an Sai work so hard Ican chop hard.
BI just buy gum and deodorant for myself.
C Yes, I'm the best at spending money on others or DI love
buying my dog all sorts of new things.

(39:08):
DI would say it's a combination between A&D, so I'm going to go
D as well. Next question.
Are you willing to live a life that will inspire another human
being to strive to be the best that they can be?
It's a trick question because I like, I would like other people
to look at my choices in my lifeand think like, oh, I would,

(39:32):
that's he, he's cool. I, I, if I maybe if I do some
things like he does, then I can be cool too, right?
Yeah, we can inspire people without making a person.
Right. At the same time, I don't need,
I don't need to have like a legacy with a child.
So let me just make that. What are the answers?

(39:52):
AI sometimes, Sometimes I trip. Is that going to ruin the
inspiration vibe? B What else do I have to do?
C Yes, I'm the best at inspiringor D Did I tell you I inspired
my dog to go to the toilet? I'm going to go be on that one.
What else do I have to do? Like, I don't know what and I

(40:14):
don't think I'm good at inspiring.
What do you think? You don't think you're good at
inspiring? No, I'm fair at it.
I don't. I don't think that I'm like a a
Nobel Peace, Peace Prize winner or something.
No, I think I just like lead by example a lot.

(40:34):
So yeah. I think that's fairing.
OK, so you're going, you're going, yes, I'm the best and
inspiring CI guess we love it. OK, results.
Did you answer mostly A's, B's, C's or D's?
Well, we were mostly B's and D's.
All right. Congratulations.

(40:57):
B's and half D's honestly. And then I did 1C.
I'll, I'll combine them. Congratulations.
You have an excellent pet. You are most certainly a loving
caregiver, but you may be a little bit crazy about your dog.
Your heart is most certainly bigenough for a baby and a dog.
No. OK, that kind of turned on us.

(41:21):
What? I feel like I feel like the
Grinch right now. That's like my heart shrunk 2
sizes too small or whatever. Like I my heart is big enough
for. First of all we have small dogs
and small cats. My heart is only big enough for
small animals. Yeah, and friends and family and

(41:41):
stuff, but other people's kids, maybe.
So, well, you heard it, we have to have a kid now because the
five question thing from parentmap.com said we had to
have a kid. Damn it.
All right, everybody get forget what we said at the beginning of
the pod. We are, we're we're, we're
changing our minds. We're going to do it just
because of the quiz at parentmap.com.

(42:05):
That's wild. I had to read you this story
before we go and I have a coupleReddit things here to get to as
well. There was a woman who shared
that she had to serve as a bouncer at her cousin's wedding
because she is a licensed security guard.
She wanted to do that. We had a security guard at our
wedding for a couple different purposes.

(42:28):
She had the pleasure of turning away some children at this
wedding because it was indeed a fact, in fact a no child wedding
similar to the one that we had. And she made this Reddit post
because she said that she was screamed at, threatened,
berated. They had to call the police

(42:50):
because people were throwing a fit that she would not let their
kids into the wedding. Was it?
Here's my thing, in the commentsof this Reddit post are people
asking and getting clarity on did the invitation say
absolutely no children and they brought?
Them anyways they are and it didthey are and it did so I think

(43:12):
most of the comments are in her favor of going fuck yeah you did
your job. It's a lot of pressure as
somebody who's like the friend or a family member of somebody
having a wedding, they task you with something, you're like, no,
this is their big day. I'm going to stick to their
rule. Yeah, you don't want to ruin it
for them because you made you made a snap decision to OK, well

(43:33):
this kid is OK. And and then if one kid it gets
in, they all have to get in because you can't then start
discriminating which kids are fine.
So it has to be a black and white hard and fast rule and it
has to be no kids or all kids. You can't just say this kids
fine, this kids not. That's when you get in like,
murky territory. Right, 'cause the whole point is

(43:54):
not, you know, your kids should die.
No, the point is, it's it's an adult's night that we wanted.
We wanted adults to enjoy being adults with no distractions and
no concerns and responsibilities.
Me celebrating my future with a partner is no place for a for a
child, especially if you don't want kids of your own.

(44:17):
Why the fuck does someone else'stoddler need to be at your
celebration of your partnership? Can I also say something here?
And I've thought about this a couple times recently.
Did you ever go to a wedding as a kid?
No. I went to a couple, didn't like
it, no. They, the kids, don't want to be

(44:37):
there. No, they don't want to be.
They don't want to go to an adult party for seven hours.
They essentially they don't wantto go to church and then go to
an adult party, right? Let them have fun playing video
games at home with the babysitter, right?
I I just, I had to go to a couple as a kid and I was like,

(44:57):
I have to, I have to dress up and I have to go sit there and
listen to and I don't like dancing.
I'm seven. I don't want to go dance.
You know what? Oh, there's going to be cake.
I have Little Debbie's. Also usually then the kids are
around like a bunch of drunk adults.
Do you really want your 7 year old around a bunch of wasted

(45:18):
adults? Right.
It's dangerous. Chairs are flying.
Well, it's. Just also not like a great
environment. No, it's not a great.
It's not a great anything. Just like it's fine to leave my
home and don't cause a damn scene, you know, threatening.
People, to get your kid into their wedding is crazy.
It's insane. It's absolutely insane.

(45:40):
OK, this next post on Reddit, I,I kind of love this.
It's a bit insensitive, but justgo with me for a second because
it kind of reminds me of you. I I saw this and I'm like.
Oh good, it's insensitive and itreminds me.
No, you'll get what I said. OK so this lady wrote down.
So it finally happened to me. I was, as she said, bingoed by a
stranger. I was at Walmart today and one

(46:03):
of the things I needed to buy was a baby gate.
I got a puppy and need to help like keep them in a room
essentially not going up downstairs, things like that.
I'm struggling to get this gate from the top shelf and a woman
came up to me and said congratulations, asked when I'm
due. First of all, I don't look
pregnant so I was kind of offended that she just assumed I

(46:25):
was. I told her Oh no I'm not
pregnant I'm getting this for mypuppy.
She apologized and then said someday I'm sure.
And so the lady said that she told her that she had her tubes
removed but instead of saying that she did it on purpose, she
acted sad and said that she had to do it for other reasons.

(46:45):
So she like laid it on the thickto guilt trip this lady for
assuming that she like wanted tohave children.
She turned white and apologized to me.
I was trying the best to look sad and not laugh.
I just heard she learned not assume anyone can have or even
wants kids. Yeah, I love it.

(47:05):
Hell yeah, I'm totally. It's a risky move to just assume
somebody's pregnant either way. Oh my God, yeah.
Also trying to get a baby gate down from a shelf, You could be
buying that for your your cousin, your sister, a friend.
It doesn't mean that it doesn't.That's an insane thing.
If someone's buying a baby gate, there's like 1000 reasons you

(47:26):
could be getting a baby gate like it's not.
So many reasons. Oh, I'm with child also.
Let's say you were getting a baby gate and you just had a kid
and then and you have a toddler. That doesn't mean you're
currently pregnant. What it doesn't mean someone
should say when are you due? You might have a baby already
and then you're just calling that person fat, right?

(47:48):
Right. That's insane behavior and I'm
actually I I just I genuinely hope it happens that someday I
get to pull that card and and make someone feel bad for
assuming you know who recently asked us was our chiropractor we
accidentally. Went in together.

(48:11):
And he was like, Oh yeah, you'regoing to start a family soon.
And we were like, Nope, I don't think we ever are.
What here's here's what really bugs me about it and I will say
it's getting better. Like there's more people now
that are a little bit more open minded to the whole thing.
And I, you know, sometimes when people listen to this, they
think we're being dramatic. But the issue I have is kind of

(48:32):
two or three fold. Number one, I don't like that
there's worth and value attachedto it.
So like when somebody asks you as a woman if you're pregnant or
if you're having a baby or whatever, there's like this
question of your worth because you're not becoming a mother,
right? I don't like that.
What I also don't like is when we're asked about it as a

(48:54):
couple, it becomes this weird like, well, who decided dynamic?
Right. Everyone just assumes that I
decided and you're going along with it.
And it's like what? Right.
And it's like, so there is no option C here where we both
mutually decided and are happy with that decision.

(49:18):
Right. People can't wrap their minds
around that It it's like we're actually totally like thriving
and happy about not. Doing it.
So that is where things do get alittle dramatic for me.
It's like it's not it's, it's not that big of a deal if you
chose something and I chose something and like, oh, OK,
that's interesting. Whatever.
It's when you overly complicate and there ends up being like

(49:40):
this weird power dynamic bullshit and it's like, OK,
let's just go away. Go away.
Pop my back. Well, yeah, coming from a
chiropractor, it's like, hey, I don't need you to crack my womb.
So I think, I think we're all set on this convo.
Can you focus on the spine? I am.

(50:00):
Not here for fertility, Sir. Yes.
Can you focus on the spine and less on the womb?
Thank you. OK, last Reddit post and then
we'll get out of here. This one titled I am sick of how
my mother uses my affection for my cat against me.
This is great, she says. Every time I pick up my cat I

(50:22):
kiss my cat. I feel the eyes of my family on
me, especially my mom. My mom's getting more desperate
to try and convince me to give her grandkids.
The other day I was hugging my cat and she said wouldn't you
like for the cat to call you Mama?
What if your cat could speak andcall you Mama?

(50:42):
I hate that I I I no. I and then and then she said
they got into a debate and her response was like, oh, I see.
You see no future, OK. So I guess you should just end
it all. Why so I?

(51:03):
Guess you should get end it all.I just also like.
That's a pretty bad attempt to try to convince.
That's a really bad. I What if your cat could talk to
you? If anything, I think it's a sign
that the mom needs to go back toschool and get like her GED or
something because yeah, that A+Bdoes not equal C, ma'am.

(51:25):
No, no, indeed it does not. No it does not.
What's so funny though is like Iat least know in my heart of
hearts my mom would never say that to me.
No, not at all. Not at all.
She is like that, thank goodness.
I know every parent has their flaws, so do we.

(51:50):
There is never a time in my lifewhere my mom was like, actually
I think you should reconsider being a mom to a human baby.
If I called your mom right now and said Katie told me that she
wants to have a child, she wouldsay that's not Katie.
The real Katie was stolen in Salt Lake.
And this is AI? I think she would also be like,

(52:16):
we should drive her to some sortof mental health facility.
She would she would 100% like she we would hang up and then
she would text me on the side and be like is she OK?
I'm worried she's having a little.
Break I have a question. No, we're not going to do it.
Honey in two weeks on the next episode should we call my mom
live on a pre recorded episode live and and say either one of

(52:47):
two things we're thinking about having a kid and see what she
says or I am pregnant and see what she says?
She will not believe either of them, guaranteed.
But I. Think we should just.
Thought you don't think? Hello, I'm in an I'm in a
Meisner program. I've been in it for a year.

(53:09):
You don't think I could sell it?It's not your ability to sell,
it's her ability to buy, and shewill not buy it.
I know, but shouldn't we just doit anyways for fun?
This is what they call in the industry, a tease.
Oh yeah, so. We'll see you next week,
everybody. No, in not next week.
We'll see you next time, everybody.

(53:31):
OK.
