Speaker 1 (00:00):
Or is Debbie Scott Debbie.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Good morning, Good morning, Leslie.
Speaker 3 (00:03):
Yes, have been following, very interested in consumers well skill
and the way he's rocketed himself up the leaderboard.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yeah, we always knew that he had it, didn't we
We did, Yes's and his sister Mymilcom. Yes, absolutely, just
so good. The Canterbury I guess Pathway is just showing
itself and it will at the inter Provincials starting Monday
the Est Button Golf Club as well. Who's in the.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Team Yes, well and a really good lineup. I'm so
excited about this team. We've got some bit of experience,
we have certainly some fresh faces and we've got some
three or four returning to have another crack and hopefully
perform to the skills that they've shown throughout the year.
(00:54):
Quite frankly, they've been right up there with their club champs,
Champion of Champion in South Island, most wins, Junior Golfer
of the Year, Golfer of the year. All these people
are in this team. So they've got the goods and
we now want them to show it.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
So who are we going to be following? What are
their names?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Right? How you're going to be following Olive Tapu from
christ Church who is here for her tenth and final
year of representing Canterbury and she will captain the team.
We've got Lani Innui who is from Japan and interestingly enough,
her coach is Rio Kabori Kazumo Kabori's dad, so she's
(01:42):
she is the Canterbury Golfer of the Year. We've got
Juli Chang who is the Junior golfer of the Year
and she is coming back for our second year. She
performed really well last year also as did Zaria Borne
from Wymighty Beach. She's back for a year and has
been performing really well. Vanessa Limb also who was the
(02:05):
Canterbury match Play champion. No sorry that was Juny. She
was our Champion of Champion winner this year. Vanessa lim
She is a new cap along with Alice Frye who
is just screaming up the ranks and a new cap
as well.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Right, so talk to us about Ashburton, the how that
will help assist this Canterbury team, this talented team.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Right, Well, Ashburton, we've played it a number of times.
There's a plus there. The girls know it well and
we played it two weeks ago against Wellington who came
down for the sort of try around the course. It's
tree lined, but the fairways are generous, so you know
(02:49):
you shouldn't get into too much bother. They do let
the rough grow fairly high through the just off for
the fairways, so you do need to have a good
game in getting out of the rough. Not necessarily the trees,
but definitely that long grass. At the moment, all of
(03:10):
the greens are medium size, too smallish, but they all
slope and if in doubt, play short because they fall
away at the backs and the sides and can cost
you a shot. So your short game needs to be
pretty good. You need to know a range of wedges
and wedge type shots to play Ashburton well if you're
(03:33):
going to succeed.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
And what's the draw for us?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Well, the draw for us is we actually start the
competition on Tuesday with two rounds, although Canterbury's very first
round is a bye, So we start at noon on
Tuesday and we play i'll say softer teams to start with,
and we finish with North Harbor and Auckland in our
(04:01):
rounds five and six, and then after the sixth round
the two top teams will play off for the final.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Right, hope and Blacks are on there. Well, we do
wish you all the very best for that. But on
a very sad note, Adrian Bond passing away and of
course I know her daughter captain teams with Kirsty and
an incredibly talented family actually, but sad news for the
Bond family losing Adrian.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yes, it is very sad news. And Kirsty in fact
plays at our club at Herewood. I have played a
few games with Kirsty and as you say, a really
lovely family and Adrian. While I did not play with her,
I did as a growing up golfer did follow her
and she was a very fine golfer and one who
(04:55):
liked to give back to the sport as well. So
a really sad past and sad time for that family.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yes, indeed, very well said, and I'm sure that the
way that the Read and Blacks will play starting their
own match play on the Tuesday, we will be watching
with great interest.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
By Scott great. Yes, thank you, Lin, I'm sure you'll.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Do a great job as well. We're lucky to have you.
Thank you, I hoping to Yes, thank you very much, Okay,
Leslie thank you, bye bye.
