A baía de São Lourenço foi formada numa cratera vulcânica em forma de anfiteatro. Junto à praia de areia branca apetece caminhar, sentir a maresia que envolve as famosas vinhas de Santa Maria. A "Grande Rota", que une vários trilhos, percorre toda a ilha, numa extensão de 78 quilómetros. Viajar para os Açores, justifica passar pelos lugares mais emblemáticos do percurso. A partir da Baía de São Lourenço, a decisão foi entrar nas vinhas. Pela encosta acima, as videiras brotam num terreno improvável. São vinhas centenárias que passaram de geração em geração. O percurso segue através do trilho da Fajãzinha até Poço da Pedreira a pé, depois um desvio de jipe ao Covão da Mula, rumo ao Barreiro da Faneca, na direção dos Anjos, para terminar em Vila do Porto.
