Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thirteen, ten ninety.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Five point f and good afternoon, after and welcome to
community Connection. I've teena cosmy. Today is Thursday, April the
twenty third. Eric Garns our producer here with is Eric.
You and I were just well, yeah, we were just
going way back. That song, like Diane Reeves, one of
my all time favorites.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
I love that songs.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Oh my god. So I used to just listen to
it over and over, possibly because she nailed my grandmother.
You said, she nailed yours too in that song. And
it's a great song.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
It is a great song. It is. Yeah, don't hear
it often?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
No, No, I love it. Whatever happened to her, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Was just thinking that I don't have to look that up.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
I I was wondering that as that was ending, if
she is still with us or she is out of
the industry. Some people make the transition and do some
other things.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, they do, they do, or they're just multi faceted,
and once in a while they'll cut a cut it.
That's true, and then they'll go to what they really
like to do.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
That's very true, really really going to.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Be yeah, very well, could be. So we're going to
find some before the end of the week. We're going
to find some of ty Scott records. Yes, some music
from that, because I promised we would, you did and
we got them.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
We we have some in the library. I mean, we're
not writing the moment. Yeah, in there somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Okay, we're gonna pull it out. We're gonna get it
maybe on open lines tomorrow, I thought today. But today
is going to be pretty busy. We've got we're continuing
with the primary election coverage in that candidates are coming
on talking to us, telling us what they're about, and
asking for our listeners votes. Today it's going to be
(01:42):
Pike Township Trustee, the incumbent Annette Johnson. She faces a
crowded field as well. I mean, yesterday we had the
last two days we've had Andre Carson, the incumbent Destiny Wells.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
The crowded field. I think there's four There are four
there are, you know, you know, trying to clear the
primary to become the Democratic candidate for the seventh US
Congressional district right here in Indiana, all trying to unseat
the incumbent. I think in Annette Johnson's race, I'm pretty
sure there's three that are trying to unseat her. Three three. Yeah,
(02:19):
well there's there's three, I'm sorry, a total of three.
There's two additional, two additional, and so she's she's going
to come on and talk with us. We also we
talked about this several times last year, encouraging people to participate.
Then we had a sneak preview of this community needs
(02:39):
health Assessment that the Marie County Public Health Department did yes,
which was really they said they had more participation than
they thought. The result, outcome, call to action, all of
those things are were being formulated, are being formulated. Tonight.
There's a presentation of this survey at Indiana Black XPO,
(03:00):
and so one of the we won't have doctor Kine,
but one of the other epidemiologists who was key to
putting this together is going to join us and let
it give us a preview of tonight's presentation in Indiana
Black Export. We're going to have that. Not to mention,
tonight is the first night of the NFL Draft, and
(03:20):
who's your pride will be beaming from Gary to Evansville.
If you're an IU football fan. Not everybody even cares
about IU football sports or whatever, but if you happen
to care yep, and if you happen to realize and
understand that we are the national champions we sure are
and we may be able to continue those winning ways
(03:42):
this evening. If our national championship quarterback Fernando Mendoza is
chosen as anticipated, is chosen first in the NFL draft tonight,
So Danny bridges with the Indianapolis Recorder, He's going to
join us and we're going to talk about that as well. Actually,
there's a couple of folks, not only first, but in
(04:03):
the first round, a couple of players from that championship
squad that could probably go most suitably. Yeah. Omar Cooper
the wide receiver, definitely. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Such a talented squad.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, very very talented. So so for the section of
our listeners who uh who care about that and want
to know more about the Danny's going to give us
a little insight and it should be exciting. I can't
remember the last time the state of Indiana has had
a number one draft choice in anything.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
Ah.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Really, that's good. In a while, to think about it.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, you got to think about it. Somebody's somebody will
correct me. Maybe Danny will. He will but you know,
we've gotten number one. Not not to say we haven't
gotten number one because Peyton Manning was number one. You
know we've had them. But I'm just saying home grown
from here, even though Fernando from so Cow but uh no, no, no,
(05:04):
from Miami, Miami, Miami, Florida. He went to southern California,
well California, calous it was at Stanford and he was
in Cali, then by way of Miami and then to Indiana.
So but he was here long enough for us to
claiming messages. Absolutely, But I can't remember the last time
the state of Indiana has produced a number one draft
(05:27):
pick in any sport recently.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
I can't either produce not gotten one, but produced one.
So that's that's a good anybody knows that to give
us call and tell us, tell us about it.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
You know, INDI's trying to get the would like to
have the NFL draft here. So that's one thing that
had I saw that we've had the combine.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
And all those things happening for yeah years.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Yeah draft, I think there's a there's uh people from
Indy going to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
They just wanted of course, it's like amateur sports cap
in another world, so we would like.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
To be I say, hey, come come.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah. And most of all, and this is especially for
you guys who are at work. If you're listening at work,
listen a little closer. We have not one, but two,
count them, two opportunities for you to win tickets to
DJ Gino's Celebration of Choirs. And I'm going to tell
(06:30):
you why, Tell you why. If you've heard Gino's commercials, spots, announcements,
he's very excited about it, and he has he has
generated a lot of excitement about it. But he said,
he came to my office the other day he said, hey,
I want to get some more excitement behind it. This
is exactly what he said. I said, we'll give you
(06:51):
some more tickets. He said, okay, you got it. He said,
I'll generate as much excitement as I possibly get. Geno
if we were talking real high and laughing and having
a good time. But I said, you give them to me,
I'll give them away.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Gino going to is it going to be on the
show at some point before you may?
Speaker 2 (07:10):
I'm sure between now and May thirty first, there's no
way we won't have genos. Oh yeah, somewhere he's going
to come on and make a personal push for this. Oh. Absolutely,
you know Clues Hall is big, but you know, when
you have this much star power on stage, it's only
so big. That makes sense. It's only big, but it's
only so big, so there's only going to be so
(07:32):
many left. So we want everyone to get their opportunity
to take part in this now. Now, Eric, you gave
the the website Clues Hall Box Office.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Right if you want to, if you want to buy
them clues Hall Memorial Box Office or at GJ Gino
dot net that's DJ Gino g e n O dot net.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
You can get them there. You can buy them, or
you can buy them.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Or you can push those headphones if your at work
a little closer, earbuds or whatever, a little closer and
listen for your chance to win. Listen for your chance
to win not one, but two separate. But now if
you win one, you can't come back and win come back.
You can win once once every thirty days. Right, So
(08:20):
if you've won anything with the Indianapol stations or Radio one,
the computer is gonna catch you.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
It will it.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
Okay, there's no way somebody can think somebody said, Eric,
can you make me the caller?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
You said, I said, no, I can't. I can't do that.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Just make me caller. That's an interesting ass.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
I've had that ask many times.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Oh, just make me it, make me it, I.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Said, But okay, I could lose my job.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, we could.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
And it's quiet.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yeah, the highest integrity, y'all. I know we do not cheat.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
I probably don't.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I probably do. We will not cheat. We'll give you
the opportunity to buy it if you want. And let
you know. You can go to dj g O dot net,
another clues hall box office, or you can keep listening
for your chance to win.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
We'll sell you win.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
We will tell you when, won't we. And so we
got all of that and more coming up just ahead.
And I wanted to make sure today is Thursday, so
day after tomorrow it is going to be oh in
it's going to be on. I'm gonna tell you what's
gonna be on. It's gonna be early voting. And to me,
before I get to that, let's go ahead, let's go ahead.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Oh okay, let's give away the first set, first set
of tickets, first.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
First set of tickets to DJ Jino's first celebration of choirs.
If you did, if you've been listening or not been listening,
I'm gonna let you know reminder what it is coming
to Clues Memorial Hall on the campus of the beautiful
Butler University May thirteen, first starring Ricky Dillard with special
featured guests Vincent Bohannan and SolV the Chicago Mass Choir,
(09:52):
as well as five local choirs that will open the
show with well known local choir directors, including the Reverend
doctor Carl Liggins with Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church out
there on the west side, James Andrews Total New Beginning,
Mondo Hall, New Direction Church out there on the east side,
Sherry Garrison from Eastern Star everywhere in Marion County, everywhere everywhere, north,
(10:17):
northeast and west, and Bryce and Robinson from Light of
the World somewhat northwest.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
I guess you could say, yeah, yeah, that is somewhere, yeah,
near northwest.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah, near northwest. So Eric, I will let you do
the honors, and you picked the number. Now you can
pick the number. Eric will pick the number, but he
can't put you with that number until you call and
you become the caller. He's not going to do that.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
I'm going to do that. I'm going to pick the
number of completion. That's number seven.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
I was going to say seven. Number seven is seven
lucky number seven. If you are the seventh caller to
the number three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten
three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten, if you
are caller number seven, you will win one one pair two.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Two two ticketsket two tickets one pair, one pair two
tickets equal one pair two tickets to DJ Geno's celebration
Acchoirs next month, May thirteenth, first on the campus of
University at the Lovely Clues Memorial Hall.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Ricky Dillard with special featured guest Vincent Bohannan and SolV
the Chicago Mass Choir, five local choirs, the Reverend Carl Liggans,
the Reverend Doctor Carl Liggans from Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church,
James Andrew Total New Beginning, Mondo Hall, New Direction Church,
Cherry Garrison, Eastern Star, and Bryce and Robinson from Light
(11:41):
of the World. Again. We're gonna give away these tickets
and then another set sometime during the show, but right
now we're gonna give away this first set and we're
gonna give them to whoever is caller number seven. Eric
is working the phone lines right now going through to
find out who number seven will be. Call her number
(12:02):
seven again. You can get your tickets right now. They
are on sale right now at Plues Memorial Hall, the
box office there, or at the website Djgino dot net,
Djgino dot net. As we said, we've got quite a
bit for you coming up. We've got Tonight's the beginning
of tonight's draft, and a lot of Hoosier fans very
(12:25):
excited with the possibility that IU quarterback Championship quarterback, the
champion the NCAA Football Division One champions Indian University Hoosiers
Fernando Mendoza is expected to go number one if to
the Las Vegas Raiders, and then May one, maybe two
(12:46):
of his teammates may also go in that first round
from that championship team. So that's going to be really
excited for exciting for a lot of those who are
football fans, and like the draft. The Colts don't draft
until tomorrow. They gave away all of their first round
draft picks to get a defender by the name of
Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets, I do believe anyway,
(13:10):
So the Colts don't have you know, they don't have
any skin in the game tonight unless for whatever reason
on drafting, you never know, but for the most part,
they're not expected to pick until tomorrow. So Danny's going
to talk about that. We also have Pike Township Trustee,
the incumbent, and Nat Johnson. She's going to be here
in studio with us talking about her campaign. She'll face
(13:32):
two other challengers in the Democratic primary, so we'll hear
from her in terms of why she wants your vote.
And also, Marion County Public Health Department Community Needs Assessment
is complete. It was completed in twenty twenty five, and
there's going to be a presentation tonight by the director
(13:52):
of doctor Virginia Kine and the chief epidemiologist, doctor Bowman,
and I believe doctor Bowman will be able to join
us for a few minutes tonight to let us know
about that presentation that will be taking place at Indiana
Black Expo Headquarters at six oh one short Ridge Avenue
from six to eight pm tonight from six to eight pm.
(14:14):
So that is going to be coming up on the show.
As per the usual our reminder, early voting here in
Indianapolis and Marion County is underway at the City County Building.
But day after Tomorrow, Saturday, eight more satellite sites are
going to be added. Eight additional satellite sites are going
(14:35):
to be added to the list of places where you
can vote early in advance of the May fifth primary election.
Primary election day is May fifth, six am to six pm.
If you want to vote on that day, but if
you want to get your vote in early, don't want
(14:55):
to face the crowds or a flat tire or what
have you. You've got the City County Building now this weekend, though,
you're gonna have several more opportunities in addition to the
City County Building. So that is going to be coming up.
As we said, Caller number seven, Caller number seven to
(15:17):
the number three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten
three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten. Oh oh,
looks like we have a winner. If you are calling
right now, go ahead and hang up, because we do
have a winner. He is processing the winner as we speak.
Eric is processing the winner. We are going to find
out who that is momentarily, very very shortly find out
(15:39):
who Caller number seven is and we're going to get
to that as well. So the good news is if
you didn't get in this time, you'll have another chance
sometime during the show. I don't know when, what hour, whenever,
whenever we can squeeze it in. We're gonna try to
get it in. We're gonna definitely try to get that in. Uh.
(16:00):
But we will have another set to give away. But
I'm anxiously awaiting news of who the first winner is,
and I'm sure Eric will have that for us very
very shortly. I have the Winter the winner.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Now, now, Tina, we've said before, and it's true a
lot of people are listening at work, and so Gail
is Gail Banks is our latest winner.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Oh well, congratulations Gail. I didn't ask where she works
is another work for but.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
She's listening, so she had to step out and the
uh huh whisper a little bit.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
So did she give us any more like who she's
any more infos? She's going to say she didn't.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
She didn't say so, but congratulations to her. She'll enjoy
acceleration of choirs. Ricky Dillard May thirty first, That clues
Memorial Hall.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Yeah you said, Ricky gives you a workout.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
He does watch so many content.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Yes, I've never seen him live in concerts, but you've
seen him.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Seen him live, and you if you're gonna, I don't
know how he does it, put gym shoes, I think.
So you get to work out with him.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
There are times I've been sweating concerts.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Are you're really getting your praise? I mean, but he
had the praise.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Cloth don't have that.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
I'll just sweat pastor.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Just let it go.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
I just like he he I don't know how he
does it, but when he's he's doing a concert, he's
really beau.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
He's really into and and you know that everybody has
their their signature, you know that's true. Everybody has their lane,
and they're all to be appreciated in you know, in
each individual case. And with him, high octane, high.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Chain for sure. I mean he's he's more directing more
than GA.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
Yeah, a little bit more, just a little a little
bit more than a little bit. I mean, he ricky.
I don't know how is but he's been doing it
for a long time and he has keeping him up.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
I think. So. Yeah, choirs sounds great too all the time.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
So she had to what's her name again? She had
to step out, Gail Gale, Gale Bank.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
She had to stepan, had to step outside to uh call
from a secret location.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
But she's.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Hanging there, Gill Friday, Friday's coming, Friday's coming, and you
got two tickets.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
She's certainly she was excited about that.
Speaker 7 (18:27):
Good.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Well, we're happy to have you and thank you so
much for listening. We always thank you for listening. And
you know what, Eric, I'm starting to I guess we
should have figured it out anyway, because that's how a
lot of people listening but are streaming.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Oh yeah, streaming listen.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
It's got to be uh much larger than what we anticipate.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Oh I believe so yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Because you know, we've had callers from Texas who are listening.
Uh huh, callers from Missouri who are listening. Yes, Louisville
who are listening. So yes, it's it's pretty large.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Iowa, brask We're some other ones. Illinois, oh definitely, Illinois, Ohio, yes, yes, yes,
so well again, thank you, thank you, thank you so
much for listening. And there will be yet another opportunity
to win these tickets. Uh probably number seven. Yeah, completioner,
(19:22):
welcome back to the beginning then, because we already completed,
so to the beginning, and so we were talking about
the the vote centers that are going to be opening
up on Saturday, you know, eight additional ones in addition
to the city County building. And just so you know
(19:42):
you can put it in your head. Decatur Township Government Center,
Franklin Township Government Center. The Indianapolis Public Library will have
two locations, one at Fort Benn and the other at Pike.
So again, the Indianapolis Public Library, excuse me here in
Marion County will have two locations for early voting on
(20:04):
the east side at Fort Benjamin Harrison that Fort ben Branch,
and then northwest side right there, I believe on Michigan Road,
the Pike Branch Public Library. I believe that's that's someone,
isn't it.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Yeah, Michigan Road right there at sixty second.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yep, yep, yep. Crannert Park, Perry Township Government Center, Saint
Luke United Methodist Church. I always remember that for James
in his seven hours out there in the parking lot
on the concrete. But he was determined there was at
eighty six the Meridians.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Yeah, yeah, was he voting?
Speaker 2 (20:42):
He was voting.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
It was for seven hours.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Yeah, he was out there seven hours. I remember it
had to be well, see it had to be four
years ago.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
I remember hearing about that.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, I do remember, and I remember it was me.
I made my two I said, let's let's have a
mommy kitty kit together. They said, well do you want
to do? And I said, I just want I want
you to go with me to vote. I want to
s all to vote. And so they were in line
with me and we were all at the city County
(21:17):
building and I remember we were there. We had to
be there about maybe close to three hours because I
remember Mala Eldridge was and some of her volunteers were
pulling wagons and they were wagons full of water, snacks,
all kinds of stuff. I didn't want to drink any water,
(21:39):
but yeah, yeah, never knew how long I was gonna
have to stand there. But yeah, they were just so
accommodating and so attentive to the folks that had to wait,
and you know, I appreciated it, and I think I
remember after that, there was this huge call for more
(22:01):
voting centers because they said when there's high interest elections
like that, the fact that there are only a few
a handful for a county as populated as Marion is,
whereas Hamilton County and Johnson County and some of our
surrounding Donut counties. And again this is all relative, but
per person or per capita, they had twice as many
(22:25):
as we did.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
Wow, I do remember that.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
I think, I think if I recall, if I recall correctly, now,
did they have more? No, because we had more in
terms of number, But when you break it down relatively speaking,
they for the number of people that they had, they
still had twice as many. We didn't have that many.
And I don't know what was ever done about that.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Yeah, hopefully, well, yeah, I could hope hopefully something's been
done in a positive way to get that street.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's but it's hard to tell. But again,
when Destiny Wells a candidate for Indiana's seventh US congressional district,
she's running against Andre Carson, who's also I guess you
could call him he's the incumbent, but he's also a candidate,
(23:15):
she said she had just gotten word that voting participation
was up about one hundred and twenty five percent over
this time of another primary. I forget what the qualifiers were,
but anyway, it was up. And James when he was
on yesterday basically gave the same information that voter participation
(23:37):
in this particular primary election, at this particular point in
time in the election, that voter participation is indeed up.
And so I am over the moon at that because
I think that it's I'm hoping, but I really do
think that it's just going to get better and better
(23:58):
and better. And I do believe that people are are
heeding the call. You know, they're they're taking somebody with them,
because you cannot just go yourself like you, you know,
the status quo. So either more folks are coming out
or people are taking folks with them, or both or
some kind of a combination. But whatever the whatever the case,
(24:18):
and however, the numbers are being driven up. The numbers
are indeed being driven up. And I would love for
us to keep it going because maybe we can even
make national news with our voter turnout, our primary voter turnout.
That would be unbelievable, that would be awesome. So anyway,
just hoping that we keep it up. Candidate Wells, Destiny
(24:41):
Wells was really enthused. James was very enthused, And of
course I'm more than enthused. I'm enthused. We're all enthused
about how we're trending early on trending pretty early. So
that's that's good news, good news. But it looks like Eric,
I'm not going to make it down to the cc.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Are you not going to make it?
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Well, I got today and tomorrow. I might make it.
I might make it today, today and tomorrow, today and
tomorrow maybe. But it's not that I'm not going to
vote early. It's just that where I usually vote early
to CCB usually within the first day or two, I'm
down there and I just haven't gotten there this year,
and busy, not that busy. I'm not gonna be there.
It's still on my mind. Ye. Well, convenience plays a
(25:24):
role in it too, because.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
We're in a different location in the last time.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Yeah, and the ability to walk right around the corner,
that's that makes a difference, that makes a big difference,
longer walk. So but I think if I get down
there early enough, mid afternoon, maybe after the show, oh yeah,
you could maybe make it that maybe make it. But
if not, I got eight locations to choose.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
From, I certainly have and all over Marion County.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Space and opportunity certainly, so nothing but space and opportunity.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
And you mentioned war In Township Government Center too.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Hmm, I did, did I?
Speaker 3 (26:01):
I don't know. Maybe that's another place.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Okay. If I did not, please thank you for that.
I probably started talking before I got to the end
of the list, knowing me, Oh that happens. But the
Warren Township, Yes, yes, yes, absolutely absolutely. Okay. Well, let's
take a quick break and then when we get back,
we're gonna take another look at that presentation coming up
tonight on the community Needs Assessment by the Marion County
Public Health Department. We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Let's get back to the conversation. It's Community Connection with
Tita Cosby, brought to you by Child Advocates, a champion
for justice, opportunity and well being for children on Praise
Am thirteen ten ninety five point one FM.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
And we're back with Community Connection a little bit later
this evening, actually from six to eight pm at Indiana
Black Expo Headquarters, there will be a public health conversation
and presentation of the center of the conversation, the community
Health Assessment completed last year twenty twenty five about community
(27:07):
needs resources and possible calls to action. I don't know.
I'll find out a little bit more because our next
guest is one of the presenters. She is doctor Elizabeth Bowman,
the doctor of public Health and the Marion County Public
Health Department Administrator of Epidemiology. She is a doctor of
(27:28):
public health and is the Marion County Public Health Departments
Administrator of Epidemiology. So, doctor Bowman, thank you for being
with us. How are you doing today, I'm doing well.
Speaker 7 (27:38):
Thanks so much for having me.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Boy that you quite accomplished there. I wanted to make
sure I got all that in there. So tell us
about the what's coming up this evening because this is
an important it's an important presentation and conversation. And I
like that, you know it says presentation and conversation because
it allows for public and put in from the community.
(28:01):
So tell us about how that's going to work tonight.
Speaker 8 (28:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Absolutely, So we are hosting a public health conversation at
Black Expo tonight, which is at six oh one North
short Ridge Road. It'll be from six to eight pm
this evening. We'll be talking about our community Health Assessment
results which we took the last few years to really
gather directly from community members and from our partners to
(28:26):
really understand what's going on in the community. So we'll
be sharing those findings, but now we also want to
really make sure that we understand from community members what
we can do to make improvements now that we've found
what we have, So we'll be asking directly about what
they see are the problems facing Marion County and their
specific communities, and how we can best work to support
(28:47):
and move the needle in those areas.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Yeah, we spent a little bit of time a few
months ago on the key findings and if you can
you know a summary of those including I think there
was one, maybe two surprise findings in there in terms
of importance slash priority for the community.
Speaker 7 (29:08):
Yeah, absolutely, So we had five main topic areas prioritized
as a result of those findings, and so they were.
The first one was around mental health and well being,
where we found that one in four Marion County residents
reported that they had been diagnosed with depression at some
point in their lives and that from twenty eighteen to
twenty twenty four, unfortunately, the Marion County suicide rate had
(29:31):
increased by ten percent. We also identified that access to
healthcare was a big concern in the Marion County community,
with one in three residents letting us know that they
have a medical bill that they're unable to pay in full,
and that one in five couldn't see a healthcare professional
in the past year due to costs. We also found
(29:51):
that yes and so. We also found that housing was
a big important area for our community as well. Forty
percent of calls to two on one in Marion County
twenty twenty three were related to housing and needs needing
help with housing, and for twenty twenty three, forty eight
percent of renters and nineteen percent of homeowners were spending
(30:13):
thirty percent or more of their income on their housing exclusively.
We also identified yes exactly and so. Trauma injury prevention
was another one that came up with twenty five percent
of residents letting us know that gun violence had either
personally affected them, affected their friends, or their family, or
their neighborhood, and that the firearm homicide rate was nearly
(30:37):
three times higher for Marion County than Indiana and the
United States between twenty eighteen and twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
And then infant mortality. I think you said was in
there as well.
Speaker 7 (30:50):
That's right. Yeah, So Marion County's infant mortality rate is
higher than both Indiana and the United States, and its
highest among blacker African American residents Marion County.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
So the importance of the presentation and conversation tonight and
who is invited to attend.
Speaker 7 (31:10):
This is open to anyone at all, anyone in the community.
We'd love to have them come out and talk with us.
Will also be providing a meal as well, so dinner
will be provided as a thank you for lending us
their time.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
WHOA, I didn't get that part of it. So now
is registration required or can you just everybody can just
show up? How's that going to work?
Speaker 7 (31:35):
They can just show up. There is a registration link
if they would be willing to register for us before,
but we'd be happy to have them either way.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
So, with these these key findings that you're going to
share in the conversation that you're going to have with
the community, has a call to action or slash plan
of action been formulated since these results were compiled?
Speaker 7 (31:58):
Thanks for asking that. So we're actually talking to our
community before we work on the plane. Yeah okay, Yeah,
So we're doing these conversations now with the one tonight
in particular, and then we'll be calling together partners and
community members who want to volunteer to help as well,
and we'll be forming a Community Health Improvement Plan Committee
(32:21):
and they'll be actually working to set strategies that we
can take to try and improve our community's health and
wellness in those five priority areas over the next several years.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
So how goes a community as the health of the community,
I mean, how are the two interlock, you know, the
health of Marion County residents in Marion County residents in general.
How do we do?
Speaker 7 (32:45):
Yeah, so we overall Marion County is you know, if
there's ups and downs in the community's health. In some ways,
community residents let us know that they really loved being
a part of Marion County and living here and felt
that they lived in a really diverse, brant community with
people who took care of one another and really well
built streets and sidewalks and parks.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Wait. Wait a minute, wait a minute, hold on. They
said no, wait, they said, that's not what they're telling
me about the streets. I mean, maybe the other stuff.
But they said they felt like they were well put
together streets, huh, and sidewalks.
Speaker 7 (33:24):
Not the streets themselves. We did hear about potholes for sure.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
Okay, I was gonna Eric's said they're lavity and I
jumped at the same time. They said, what Okay, But yeah,
potholes king be that. You know, that's that's a whole nother,
a whole another show and a whole other topic. But
it can create no, the mental health and the mental wellness,
that's stress. There's financial you know, there's financial implications to
(33:49):
that for anybody that hits one. But anyway, sorry, go ahead,
go ahead.
Speaker 7 (33:54):
But some people tell us that their environment and where
they lived was great, but other people told us the
exact opposite. And really emphasize that. You know, people in
Marion County, depending on where you live, have benefited unequally
from community improvements that have occurred in the county, and
so we have work to do in a variety of
areas to move the needle and help everyone have a
(34:15):
better general health quality in the future.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Yeah, and the importance of keeping the community the county healthy.
It's so important for us to have people in good
health because that leads to other things that help keep
the county going in the direction it needs to go.
We need to be healthier, absolutely, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (34:35):
And our individual's health actually directly impacts their communities health.
If people aren't healthy, then the community itself suffers.
Speaker 5 (34:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
So overall, what would you give as a result of
this assessment? What would you give as far as a
health grade to Indianapolis and Marion County and on scale
of aid.
Speaker 7 (34:58):
On a scale of what.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
The scale of A too, I guess, I don't know
regular grading scale A to F.
Speaker 7 (35:05):
I would say we do pretty well in a larger
number of areas, but we have a good chunk of
the way to go and others. So it really depends
on the topic area. But we have a very committed,
passionate group of people who work in public health and
the greater health community in the county, and so I
think we can make solid strides.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
It depends on who's grading, I guess, and if they're
grading on a curve, and you know what influences or
impacts I would you know. I think from what I've
read and what I see, it feels more healthy than not.
You know, But like you say, with with challenges and
not unlike the similar challenges that are in communities across
(35:46):
the country.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (35:48):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Are there any challenges that are specific to just us
or do we pretty much just follow the national trends?
Speaker 7 (35:57):
That's a great question. I'd say we're pretty similar to
a lot of other urban areas, but not in every
single way. So we do a little worse on some
community indicators than other large major cities, but better in others.
So we Indiana as a whole of the states has
struggled with infant mortality numbers for a long time, and
(36:19):
we in Mary County do as well, but we do
better than other states in other areas, in other counties.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
What about obesity, where are we there?
Speaker 7 (36:29):
We definitely have a ways to go to do better.
We do have high obesity numbers.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Yeah, I'm really concerned as well. And I know you're
not prepared to talk about this, and I wouldn't expect
you to, but I've been getting a lot of calls
from organizations that participate in and have participated in AIDS
HIV education programs with their funding being cut across the country,
(36:57):
not only not only here, but you know, funding being
cuts the country. Federal dollars that go to states for
AIDS and HIV programming funding and drugs and things of
that nature, and that certainly cannot help not only with
the overall health of Marion County, but the overall health
of the country, which has gotten so much healthier as
(37:20):
a result of these programs and this funding for HIV AIDS.
I'm going to look a lot further into it and
find out a little bit more about it, but it
seems like there's Indiana's one of maybe twenty AID or
twenty nine states that are just you know, they're they're
cutting their funding as well to programs that even programs
(37:40):
that educate, you know, like hey, this is these are
the things you need to do to stop the spread.
And you know, other other programming funding which took care
of you know, like housing, drugs and things of that nature.
That's that's a whole other area which is also been cut.
But there's some concern there as well, because we don't
want AIDS and HIV to become like it was before
(38:03):
it was made healthier, if that makes sense mm.
Speaker 7 (38:07):
Hmm, yeah, it's Uh, there's definitely been an increased challenge
with with funding and uh have to get creative and
think about interesting solutions and ways we can partner together
to keep things where they need.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
To be or you are were you aware of the
funding cuts and funding uh pullback and not not re
non renewals. You are aware of those, right, the HIV programs?
Mm hmm, oh you are aware? Okay, yeah, I like
your answer. Creativity, Uh, creative financing seems to be the
(38:40):
you know, that's that's the play of the day. I
guess with a lot of things these days, creatively financing
because that is a need. We just simply can't go
backward on aids, measles and all these you do. We
just can't not measles. It's not a funding issue, it's
an education issue. But thank you, uh so again, we
want to invite folks out to dinner. This is a
(39:01):
dinner invitation, y'all. You're inviting you to dinner to have
a public health discussion. So can you give us the
particulars again, Doctor Bowmack.
Speaker 7 (39:11):
Absolutely yes. So it'll be tonight from six to eight pm,
doors open as early as five point thirty at Indiana
Black Expo is six' oh One north Short Ridge, road
and we hope to see you there.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
All righty, well thank you for coming on and sharing with,
us and good luck with the event tonight and keep
us posted as to how things go and how the
call to action is shaping. Up all, right thank, you all,
righty thank? You and, yeah so that, Again Doctor Elizabeth,
Bowman Marion County Public Health, Department chief administrator there Of.
Epidemiology but, YEAH i was listening TO. NPR i got
(39:46):
calls earlier this. Week i've been reading some different things
And i'm not quite sure which way to go with
it because there's so many cuts that are associated with
The trump and men. Frustrations true that trickle down to
certain states that AND i don't know if it's flat
funding matching fat it's you, know we got to get
(40:07):
it all sorted. Out but the bottom line is that
they're pulling back on programs helping with the management OF
hiv AND, aids which has been brilliantly managed over the
last several, years AND i hope to keep it that.
Way but in part it's been because of these programs
(40:28):
that have been well.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Funded and they're being cut because of.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Budget cuts they don't, WELL i, mean.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Ultimately leading to why we're. Overseas yeah, Right, yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
That's WHY i, SAY i GOTTA i gotta look at.
It but you, know just basically. CUT i think it's
a false sense of, well people aren't dying, anymore so
we don't need to we don't need to do anything.
Anymore it's just like With kennedy and the. Measles, well you,
know we don't need to those are not good, anyway
and we don't need to spend our money on. That
it's it's just a very short, sighted not well EDUCATED
(41:06):
i don't know. Outlook but.
Speaker 4 (41:08):
Preventative it's, preventive, prevents invenitive measures are. Important, yeah, yeah
those things may be under control now to a, degree but,
yeah it could turn.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Around but if people don't have their medications, right uh
FOR HIV, aids and they are these, medications from WHAT i,
understand are almost like. MIRACLE i, mean they basically reduce
the presence of the virus to the point where you
can't spread it. Anymore, uh you, know non non infectious,
state and there are thousands of people walking around non infectious.
(41:41):
States but if they can't afford their medication to pay
for it to keep that, suppressed then what? HAPPENS a good.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
Question, YEAH i guess if you're gonna make those, cuts
maybe you could find a way to, uh and this
would probably probably be like a cat and mouse game
drug companies to lower their prices so that people can't,
afford you, know if you're going to make these cuts
that make it low enough that some of them gets you, know.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Some of them more into the generic. Exactly it's it's
JUST i JUST i just don't understand cut, cut, cut take,
away take away, cruel just mean people that they're not doing.
Anything there's you, know people people that are getting the,
measles they're not doing Any it's just, like what are you?
Thinking you're just Not maybe they're just not, thinking but
(42:27):
maybe they're. Not that's a that's a daily. Struggle and
as they, said mental, health mental health is a, uh you,
know one of the. Concerns AND i, chuckle but it's
true because when you have to balance so many of these,
concerns even though it may not necessarily affect, you it
may affect somebody you know or, love or somebody a, neighbor,
friend and and you worry about their well being and
(42:48):
that all of those things take a toll on your
wellness and your mental. Health and when it you, know
it's it's firing at you day in day, out day,
in day, out and you're trying to figure out why
are we cutting, dollars but yet we're spending a billion
a day for what you, know you're taking money away
from kids and babies and daycare and and and businesses
(43:12):
that are trying to run day care to help families
that need care for their, children and and schools kids
that can't have food at school anymore because you want
to a war that you won't even. EXPLAIN i don't,
KNOW i.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
Want to, explain and didn't explain going into.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
It but there was there was no national security threat.
There if there was a, yeah not to. Us if
there was a national security, threat of course the nation
would unite and, say, yeah spend whatever you need to
do to keep us, safe but don't take food out
of our kids' mouths just to fund or make people
(43:48):
sick again to prove a. Point so, yep, Anyway so
but that's, uh it's all, POLITICS i. Guess and we'll
get back to politics because that's coming up at some
point in our second. Hour oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
our second top of our top of the second top
of the second. Hour and we're also going to be
(44:08):
ERIC i guess it's going to have to be in
our second. Hour we're not going to do two in one,
hour but in the second, HOUR i will tell. You
in our next, hour we'll give away another set of
tickets TO Dj Geno's celebration Of choirs last day of
the month Of, may last day of the month Of,
May may thirty, first on A sunday evening Clues Memorial
(44:29):
hall in the campus Of Butler. University that, is that
is an event That gino is excited, about wants to
generate more excitement. About and AS i was telling telling
You eric, earlier the excitement needs to be at at
a higher.
Speaker 3 (44:49):
Level, oh when he can bring we'll get. It we'll
help him to.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
Get to help get, there because he's going.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
To bring his own when he comes in the.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Studio he is a, promoter. Extraordinary, yes he certainly is
what we.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Got we can. Help we've Got.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Laura, Oh, Laura, Laura, Laura laura. Comment, okay go, Ahead,
laura how are you?
Speaker 5 (45:07):
Hey good.
Speaker 8 (45:07):
AFTERNOON i just wanted to make. Comments YESTERDAY i heard
that the governor hired a new head OF. Dcs but
yet and still he's keeping on the other person at
the same. Salary talking about taking money.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
From people in.
Speaker 8 (45:22):
Need why do you need to do you not feel
this woman can do the job without?
Speaker 5 (45:27):
Him good.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
QUESTION i don't. Know there's no, Logic, no no. LOGIC i,
care but, YEAH i.
Speaker 8 (45:37):
Don't, YEAH i don't understand that. Either he didn't lose his,
Salary he didn't lose the mount in his salary at,
all and they given hurt the same. Salary that just
doesn't make any. Sense but you, can't like you said
in the other, comment you can't feed, children they can't
go to daycare and homeless, people but you can do.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
That mm hmmmm hmmm hm. Hm, okay, yeah, NO i
mean your question is one that millions Of americans asked
daily that and you know the. Entry the other thing, Is,
Laura my understanding too is that some of these cuts
we haven't even begun to felt because they were strategically
(46:17):
placed to hit after the midterm. Election so they say
the curtain will really come down after the, midterms but
really they're going to get if all indications are, correct
the midterms are going to be ugly. Anyway so it
didn't you, know you went to all that trouble to
delay everything thinking that you could still hold office or
(46:39):
get in, office or hold your seats without being. Unpopular
knowing that these cuts and these mean spirited takeaways were
not going to be, popular but thinking, hey we'll just
get we'll get, it we'll keep our seats and get
in the, election and then folks will get over it
by the time the next cycle comes. Around doesn't look
like that's going to work because a whole different thing
is going to be at work, out a whole different.
Speaker 8 (47:01):
Things people don't get over it that, quickly but you,
know we do forget.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
Things the thinking was that they would have the midterms
pretty much wrapped up because they would be in the.
Majority but What i'm saying is there that is not
even close to the. Case now they got something else
to worry. About Uh so they went ahead and did
all of this uh, cutting and then made the cuts
take effect after the, midterms thinking we'll win the. Midterms
(47:28):
well you're not. Sure, YEAH i don't THINK i think
that was. Miscalculated it's still means, spirited but it was very.
Miscalculated so it may be that they're going to be doubly. Unpopular.
Speaker 8 (47:39):
Unpopular my grandpa used to, SAY i think it might
have they shot shot the foot.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
Shot themselves in the. Foot yeah, yeah but you wait
till these these cuts hit and these folks really have
to start. Wrestling and the price of the price of
things right, now the cost of, Gasoline, eric are you're
still getting hit?
Speaker 7 (47:59):
That?
Speaker 2 (47:59):
Eric lot?
Speaker 4 (48:00):
Long for, me it's about forty five, minute almost an
hour drive to work and from work each to.
Speaker 2 (48:08):
Day so but you're not the only one in the.
Speaker 9 (48:11):
Horse there are.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
People in this building Though eric isn't the Other there
are people in this building to drive even further than he.
Speaker 3 (48:17):
Does that's very.
Speaker 2 (48:18):
True every day there are.
Speaker 8 (48:19):
Everybody, yeah, yeah, yeah there's a lot of, commuters you.
Know so, wow just just The greyhound bus, ALONE i
don't know how they're going to keep, functioning going back and,
forth taking people's.
Speaker 9 (48:29):
Places, well they'll, charge.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
They'll charge more until they can't charge, more just like the.
Airlines the. AIRLINES i Was my nephew lives out In
california and he comes home every other year AND i text,
HIM i, said, hey you coming home this, year comes
home For, Christmas and he, said well that's the. PLAN i, said,
well if at all financially, possible you better go ahead
and grab your ticket now before ticket prices are just
totally out of range or out of.
Speaker 8 (48:52):
Reach, yeah because yesterday they Said spirit was going up
under their second bankruptcy. Ape that's.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
True you.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
Know that's interesting because there was a poll, recently a
study recently done in terms of top the nation's top,
airlines And spirit came in number one in terms of the.
Criteria it was pretty.
Speaker 3 (49:10):
SURPRISING i was surprised.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
TOO i guess financial stability wasn't one of the. Criterias you.
Speaker 8 (49:16):
Know that's about like us coming in number one for our, roads, Right,
YEAH i.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
WAS i, said whoa wait a, minute no, way yeah.
Speaker 8 (49:28):
Ta how many times you had at?
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Tire, yeah brand new all the way. Around now it's.
Speaker 8 (49:36):
Every TIME i see boxes of. MACARONI i saw the
last night and. Admired they were ALL i thought.
Speaker 7 (49:41):
About.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
YOU i, KNOW i tell you that there's nothing THAT
i just went from zero to one hundred right. Away
it's like this is it's just a little. Box there's.
Nothing what could have cost that much more in that
shorter period of time to triple the cost of some
macaroni and cheese. MIX i, mean what is?
Speaker 8 (49:59):
It it's dry cheese.
Speaker 5 (50:02):
Mix it's not even yeah.
Speaker 2 (50:05):
Yeah, no it's just. Dry it's not even the. Liquids you,
know there is a liquid cheese mix you can get
that's a little more, expensive BUT i get that because
you know there's a more processing. Done have you seen those,
eric the ones that with the BUT I i nine
times out of, TEN i make my. Own, Anyway this
is just an emergency stand. By, yeah. Exactly oh, yeah,
Always so you thought about me and the macaroni and. Cheese,
(50:28):
huh every?
Speaker 8 (50:30):
Time every?
Speaker 2 (50:30):
Time you for? Rea all, Right, well thank You lord
for calling and we'll be talking with. You all, Right,
okay take, care thank, you bye.
Speaker 3 (50:42):
Bye.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
Yeah going to the grocery store ain't no.
Speaker 4 (50:45):
Fun oh, no it's. Not it used to be at one.
Time but you go in there now you're, like, well
let me figure out IF i need that or.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
Anything you weigh, It you weigh in the. Balance DO
i really need this or DO i really need?
Speaker 4 (50:55):
That, Yeah SOMEWHERE i have a list of things that
people have cut over the last about six weeks or
so because of, Prices things that that normally were pretty
important to, them but they've made. CUTS i think one
of them people that got those who got.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
Manicures but here's a lot of SAYING i forget. That
no more of.
Speaker 2 (51:15):
That, yeah you, know the this is this gets back
to the old grandma sayings and grandma days. Too wants versus.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
Needs oh, yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
What you want ain't always what you. Need the point
you gotta you, gotta you gotta bring that scale in
with you to the grocery store and get what you
need and you, know put low on the totem pole
what you. Want that's true because it's it's getting to
be more and more and more of wants versus. Needs
and that's that's not it's not. FUN i.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
SAW i talked to my neighbor this.
Speaker 4 (51:44):

saying we were trying to get to as many as
we can each and every. Day, yeah because we're, well
the countdown is, on the primary is coming, up and
so you know we're talking to the candidates and before
we have a candidate that we, have she's not a. Candidate,
WELL i guess she has a candidate because she's an
(53:32):
incumbent and she's running. Again uh. Huh, Yes and At
Johnson Pike, Township, trustee we're going to be talking to
her very very, quickly very very shortly as she gathers her.
Paperwork BUT i figured while we were talking To Trustee,
johnson we could give away another pair of those.
Speaker 3 (53:49):
Tics, oh you, know we could do. That we do
have another.

back to the. Show how are you? Doing oh so?
Good everything is going.
Speaker 10 (54:59):
Good good the noon, everyone And, tina thank you for
this opportunity to speak this.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
Afternoon oh we love having the candidates. In thank. You
so tell us about. Yourself we want to we want
to inform listeners Where Pike township, is the, borders how
many people you, have and what the trustee? Does all, right,
well thank you so much for that. Question such great.
Speaker 10 (55:26):
Questions So Pike township is on the far west side Of.
Indianapolis we have nine townships And pike is one of,
nine and so you have nine trustees And i'm one
of nine as. Well at our last informational, piece we
had about ninety six thousand, residents but that was four years,
(55:48):
ago and from just updating, THAT i was told we're
anywhere between one hundred and six to one hundred and
eight thousand residents that reside In Pike.
Speaker 2 (55:58):
Township. Wow, yes what are the Borders.
Speaker 10 (56:02):
West thirty Eighth, Street so thirty eight hundred thirty Eighth
Street West, road and then we go all the way
up to ninety six In Township Line, road ninety six
In Township Line.
Speaker 2 (56:15):
Road so the points, north, south, east and. West so,
yes south as far as thirty Eight Day street north
to ninety Six Township line and then east To Township
Line road and then west to where do you back
up To Wayne? TOWNSHIP i guess wouldn't it Be raceway
west to Race? Raceway, yes so it sits if you're
(56:39):
talking east to, WEST i guess it sits in Between
Wayne township And Washington. Township, yep right in between. Them two,
yeah Okayank god and you say roughly one hundred thousand,
yes one hundred thousand. Plus, yeah that we're at. Now
so you've been. Trustee this is your eighth. Year eighth.
Year so this is my second four year. Term so
why do you want to be trustee?
Speaker 10 (56:59):
Again, WELL i want to finish the work That i've
been doing In Pipe. TOWNSHIP i want to continue to
serve my constituents in my. COMMUNITY i want to make
sure that our awesome fire department is still, intact because
that's one of the main goals as. WELL i believe
in township. GOVERNMENT i believe in government close to the.
(57:21):
People SO i just want to continue the good, service
the good things That i've been able to. DO i
am very HIGHLY i would say recommended by my. Peers
they see my leadership style and you know THAT i.
Have i've been able to serve on The Indiana Township association.
BOARD i just started serving on that. Board so my
(57:44):
peers from across the, state which is ninety two, counties
believe in the good things that we're doing out here
In Pipe township and my. Leadership so that's WHY i
want to stay in that role as.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Well so what does the township trustee do for those
who may not? Know because sometimes we throw terms around
and we expect people to know what those terms. Mean
so what does a township trustee do and give us
a list of some of your accomplishment's personal accomplishments as
trustee Over Pike. Township, well, again that's another good question
(58:17):
because a lot of times people do not know what
a township trustee. Does AND i always share with people
that we are another layer of government that offers, assistance
offers emergency help in the areas of utility, payment, rental payment,
mortgages and so that trustee is just another layer of
(58:39):
help to help the individuals within your. Community and that's
WHY i share that we have nine, townships nine, trustees
and so that means you have nine helpmates in your
community that are there to help you and as a
trustee and hire funded and, yes, yes taxpayer funded from
(59:00):
the tax base Of Pipe. Township of, Course i've been
able to EVEN i would say expand on the. Trustee
AND i think that's why a lot of people are
excited about the things we're doing In Pipe. Township and
so WHEN i say, expand under my first year of,
leadership on site food pantry because we wanted to make
(59:22):
sure that we had food available for individuals that would
come up to the, office you, know client. Services it's
definitely a.
Speaker 10 (59:29):
Help, YES i really increased our client services to individuals
that are coming up to our office with my, caseworkers
making SURE i have bilingual caseworker on site as, well
because you need that as.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
Well is there a growing multicultural population In Pi? Township,
yes it, Is, yes you say. Bilingual so what's the
biggest would it Be, Hispanic hispanic And, Hasian, Okayatian african
And hispanic and of course we are the center for
The International Global center that sits right In Pipe. Township
(01:00:07):
so we international. Marketplace, yes very diverse, community very very
and so we again client, SERVICES i really have expanded on,
that making sure that the office is accessible website as.
Well we did not have a.
Speaker 10 (01:00:23):
Website the website lists all of the services that the
trustee does and the office along with the caseworker information
what type of applications OR i would say documents that
are needed for the application. Process so we made sure
that that is ready available as. Well, again the client
(01:00:44):
service areas is really WHAT i really wanted to expand.
Speaker 7 (01:00:47):
On.
Speaker 10 (01:00:48):
Again we have a mother baby room and so for
expectant mothers that are in The Pipe, township you.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
Know, area they have access to.
Speaker 10 (01:00:58):
That we have adept, bank so we're able to partnership
with the diaper bank In Pike. Township it's located In
pike and so we have a diaper room as. Well
just about, anything any type of services that you can
help individuals, with we have been able to do that as.
Speaker 5 (01:01:16):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
Yeah, YEAH i know that this is a completely different
lane or area or maybe it's. Not did The Pike
Township trustees' office have any role to play in the
defeat of the data center In Pike. Township Pike township
was one of the you, know one of the areas
that was successful in ridding itself of a potential data. Center,
(01:01:39):
WELL i was the first one on the front. Line
i'm the.
Speaker 10 (01:01:42):
One the meetings were held at The trustees', office and
once the meetings got too, BIG i was able to
partnership WITH Msda Pike township to hold the. Meetings led the,
charge led the, charge AS i have my campaign, LITERATURE
i led the charge there we are. Overcrowded i've been
(01:02:03):
able to serve on the border of The Sierra club
and had this one of the groups that has really
been involved with the data centers across the. City SO
i was on the front end pretty much organized the first.
MEETING i organized the silent walk that we had To
Eagle Creek park about a month, ago and So i've
(01:02:26):
been very instrumental reaching out to my city councilors and
talking to them about how we wanted to stop the
data centers and now we're working on Saving Eagle. Creek
so again on the front row of that front, end my,
staff we have been very very involved with.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
That So i'm very proud of that as. Well Fire,
Department Pike Township Fire.
Speaker 10 (01:02:47):
Department, Yes i'm very blessed as a. Trustee there are
again nine trustees and so there are three townships that
still have their standalone fire, department And Pipe township has the.
Best we're the number one fire department in the state Of,
INDIANA i must, say and so we well because of
(01:03:12):
our S o rating that helps with your insurance premiums
set each of the taxpayers And Pipe township have to.
Pay so since we have a HIGH iso, rating that
puts us at the top as far as one of
the finest fire departments you know in the state Of.
Indiana and we also are the training components for a
(01:03:34):
lot of the fire departments Like Speedway levin In Carmel Desience.
Field they all train at our headquarters which is located
off of seventy first In.
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
Georgetown so we.
Speaker 10 (01:03:47):
Are in the front row being very innovative with OUR
i would say the way that we offer training to
the firefighters that are going to be. Firefighters the recruits.
Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
Are running for another, term but this would be your third, term,
yes third term in, office and you have. Challengers, yes
and they have both, indicated even though they go in
slightly different, directions they both indicated two terms is. Enough
it's time for new, leadership time for. Change what would
you say to your challengers and what would you say
to voters to answer those, Concerns.
Speaker 10 (01:04:22):
WELL i think you, know for, voters and to answer
those concerns as you look at THE i would, say
the leadership of the individual that's in the. Office if
the individual is doing a fantastic job and voted by their.
Peers because you talked about some things THAT i have been.
AWARDED i was elected state elected official of the, year
and so, again my peers see the leadership in. Me
(01:04:45):
they see the great things That i'm doing in the
community of a township because township government is always on
the eyes and ears of state. Legislators and so, again
being in this role and being able to to share
and to show to our legislator's why township government is,
Important i've been able to do. That be at the State,
(01:05:07):
house be the, advocate be the, voice speak in front
of the committee hearings and so. Forth SO i would,
say you, know the trustee is. Thriving businesses are coming
into Pipe. TOWNSHIP i am an, ADVOCATE i am a.
VOICE i am not afraid to speak up for the.
RESIDENTS i make sure THAT i am out in my.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
Community i'm very. Engaged i'm very.
Speaker 10 (01:05:31):
Involved and to, me that is why you would want
And Net johnson to stay in office and to continue
the good work and just to continue all the good
things THAT i have brought to the township as the.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Trustee three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten three
one seven for eight zero thirteen. Ten our guests for
this segment Isn't Att. Johnson she is the Current Pike
Township trustee seeking a third term in, office and she
is here asking for your. Vote if you live In Pike,
township you know certainly all of the townships are are
(01:06:04):
are large and present their own special. Challenges what do
you think is one of the special challenges presented By
Pike township that you feel uniquely qualified to. ADDRESS i
think what we're working on now and again is the
ongoing concern about you, Know Eagle Creek. Park that is
(01:06:25):
what we're going going.
Speaker 10 (01:06:27):
On well, again the water, pumping you, know gallons and
millions of gallons of water out of That Eagle creek
reservoir and then up To levin and for their data,
centers and So Pike township is just such a VERY
i would say environmental friendly community With Eagle Creek park
(01:06:49):
one of the top you know in the, country and
so any type of concern with you, know damaging you,
Know Eagle Creek, park it's on a lot of the,
residents you, KNOW i would say, Radar so that's one
concern that we. Have of, course we you, know we
have concern OF i would say transportation sometimes for individuals seeking.
Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
To get to the trustee's. Office you know that we
be a concern about bus. Transportation and that's not Just Pike,
township But Pike township is one of several townships that
have the outlier problem of consistent. Busting is that is
that a functionality or function of the trustees office or
something you can.
Speaker 10 (01:07:30):
Influence it's not a, function BUT i can. Influence AND
i would say That indigo has been fantastic with us
because they do have curb sized services and so we
have been able to be a part of. That so
it's not really a concern because we have been able
to you, know talk With. Indigo we've gotten again curbside
(01:07:51):
services for. Individuals if they need a ride to the trustees,
office they have a ride to the trustee's office because
we're able to use that service to get them.
Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
There So i'm happy about that as. Well so what
what has from the time you first took office to?
Now what do you think you've learned the most being in?
Office and what can you say to voters who you
want to put back there put you back for yet another.
Speaker 10 (01:08:18):
TERM i think what WHAT i have learned is client customer.
Service how to treat the clients that come into the,
office make the office client, friendly just the, atmosphere making clinically.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Heat it out there, too politically heat it out and
to say the least and without you, know we're talking
about a campaign and what have, you but there has
been a lot of. That this had to be navigated
over the. Years, yes and just make sure that our
office offers any type of service that is.
Speaker 10 (01:08:54):
Needed we've been able to do outdoor, festival had never
been done.
Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
Before we are do quarterly essentials and food giveaways and clothing.
Giveaways so just really expanding on the client services for.
Individuals i'm that is one thing THAT i THAT i
learned learning the components of a fire, department why a
(01:09:21):
fire department is needed in the, community and all of
the great services that they. PROVIDE i, mean how many.
Speaker 10 (01:09:28):
Stations tell us about the first we have five, five
five fire stations In Pipe.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Township and so who was the chief Chief Jeff? Bean,
okay BECAUSE i know you had the privilege and honor
of appointing first Real, yes and he hat his tenure
and then he retires as. Well, yes SO i see
him all the time in the, community still very, evolved
(01:09:53):
very active in. Stuff he was the first First African
american chief that piped on A pike. Township, Okay i'm,
sorry but, anyway go. Ahead you were saying five.
Speaker 10 (01:10:03):
Stations five, Stations, yes that Border Pipe. Township so just
kind of learning how important they are because we don't
just you, know offer fire.
Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
Protection it goes beyond. That it goes.
Speaker 10 (01:10:15):
Beyond community resources and paramedics and accidents and just really
thinking about our senior citizens and how we can you,
KNOW i would, say tend to their needs as, well
because we get the firefighters get lots of calls from
our senior living residents and.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
Homes is the independence Of Pipe township Fire department secure
because you, know when we hear about other townships and
the move or the desire to all merge with WITH,
ipd the Indian at I, Fd i'm SORRY, impd i
F D Indianapolis Fire. Department so how how secure is the?
(01:10:54):
Independence are how important is it to be remain? Independent
or is there or are there measures or moves underway
to merge with IF.
Speaker 10 (01:11:03):
D i would say at the particular, moment we're very
independent and that is something that we want to continue.
To we want to maintain the independence because, AGAIN i
believe in township government closes to. People those firefighters men
and women have been very involved in our.
Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Community they're very.
Speaker 10 (01:11:21):
Engaged they participate in outdoor activities and different different things
that we have in the. Community our public education component
is very. Strong that area goes to The pike schools
and teaches fire. Safety we go to senior citizens and
senior homes and teach you, know safety for them as.
(01:11:44):
Well so we we're very secure at the particular. Moment,
again there it seems like the West side is very
dominant with their own standalone because we also Have Decatur,
township which west, Side Wayne, township which is west side
and of Course pike which is west. Side so, yeah,
(01:12:05):
yeah one of your one of your opponents is the
chair of The Pike Township.
Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Board is that? Correct she's not cheering chair former? Chair,
yes more more, political uh of.
Speaker 10 (01:12:18):
PEOPLE i guess, kay, YEAH i MEAN i think the
goal is TO i think what what bothers me more
than anything is we're all on the same. Team and
So i'm confused about uh disruption there because at the
end of the, day we're on the same team or
(01:12:39):
we should, be are we supposed to? Be and so
that concerns, me that disruption for from a couple of
the board members.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
After these, elections because this, one, yeah has got but
there have been other conflicts, before other elections. Before after each,
election are you able to you, know when you, win
are you able to call us come together and work
together as a, unit or are there STILL i, tried
because we've already been down this route.
Speaker 10 (01:13:05):
BEFORE i, mean that same individual that you're speaking about
ran last time and we were very. Successful i'm gonna
say that, again very. Successful and so you fast forward four,
years that particular individual has not been able to move.
Forward of, course you want to move forward because AS
i just, stated and everyone's. Listening we're all on the same.
(01:13:26):
Team we're all going hopefully for the same. Results and
WHAT i would say Is Pike township is moving in
such a WONDERFUL.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
I would say.
Speaker 10 (01:13:37):
Pathway you, know one of my accomplishments That i'm very
proud of Is trustee of The year out of a
thousand and five.
Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
Trustees oh, wow for.
Speaker 10 (01:13:49):
The state Of indiana to have that, honor, man that
makes me so happy and so. Proud but then on
the other, end my peers do not expect that BECAUSE
i think if one thousand and five of the trustees
were one thousand and four felt you, Know Trusty johnson gets.
It she's doing. It she's doing the work and to
(01:14:12):
get that honor and to carry that grand old. Title
and it makes to me My pike residents are proud
of that that they can say that if you.
Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
Are to be, reelected how would you go about working
to heal the? FRACTURES i guess so to, speak would
or would that? NOT i, mean what do you?
Speaker 10 (01:14:31):
Think but you KNOW i do that every. DAY i
MEAN i make sure that the board members have the
things they need to be. Successful there's no hiding of.
Anything our audits come out. PERFECT i mean.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
The qu'es tories out, there it's false.
Speaker 10 (01:14:51):
INFORMATION i, mean we just had a semi audit On
march the eleventh because things felt like things wouldn't go on.
Right even THOUGH i just think as the, Trustee i've
been probably my worst enemy BECAUSE i served on the
board for fourteen years BEFORE i became a. TRUSTEE i
served on the township board for fourteen years AND i
(01:15:14):
saw a lot of the, structure and so WHEN i
became the, TRUSTEE i, SAID i want to do it,
differently and that came in THE i would, say in
the form of making sure the board members have all
the tools they, need all the. Documentations we send that.
OUT i work with a great, accountant gave her. DIRECTIVES
(01:15:34):
i want to make sure that financial documents go out
every month to the board. Members they don't have to
wait till the six months or the end of the.
Year So i've done so many different updates and upgrades
so that the board members can be involved and. Understand
the fire chief does the same. Thing he sends out
(01:15:56):
a monthly report of how many fire runs he. Had
ask how many you know things that happen? Everything we
are so transparent that you can't get any transparent In Anette,
johnson and you just still get a lot of. Grief
So i'm willing to do WHATEVER i need to. Do
even when the board members were newly, elected we had board,
(01:16:20):
training they did not show. Up SO i just sometimes
you can do everything you can do and you just
still don't get the results that you. Want But i'm
gonna be, engaging, involved very, transparent and whatever is, Needed
i'm gonna make sure to make sure the board members
happen very.
Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Quickly on the educational spot, part, well educationally is there for,
years there's been talk About pike of, course being it's
one of the fastest growing townships In Marion county and
so the health of all of our growing townships is,
important and certainly the trustee is an important position in
(01:16:59):
guard that help another high? School, uh Another Pike High?
School uh? Possible like you, know like kind of Like
Lawrence township has. Too it is that anywhere have you
heard anything?
Speaker 10 (01:17:10):
About, YEAH i mean our our, again our population is growing,
growing and so we had The Freshman center to house
all the fresh and so we did that and now
again it's overflowing. Again so there's talk of that as,
well and so we may have to go to something.
Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
Else, okay keep us.
Speaker 10 (01:17:27):
Updated on you because The freshmans are you, know once
they get over To pike is bust busting out of the.
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
Season i'm over there a.
Speaker 10 (01:17:35):
Lot and that's WHY i SAID i have a wonderful
partnership with the, superintendent Doctor Larry.
Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
Young he is wonderful as. Well so BEFORE i have
to let you, go, uh we want to know how
folks can get in touch with, you learn more about your,
campaign volunteer if they want help, out and, uh if
you've got if you can do, it uh your elevator
pitch as to why you should be re elected to
The Pike Township trustees'.
Speaker 10 (01:17:57):
Office, well, AGAIN i have my website again Is Annette
johnson twenty twenty six dot. COM i would really encourage
individuals you're listening right, now please go to the. Website
you will see all the good things that we're doing
In Pike. Township the website has a lot of good.
Information again Ant johnson twenty twenty twenty six dot. Com
(01:18:20):
and SO i make SURE i put everything up there
so people just click on there and go and see
all the good things that we're doing within the township
with the fire department also with our community resource. Paramedic
that it's one of our new areas of community service
that we have put together In Pike. Township kind of
forgot to mention, that and so, again.
Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Of course my, number you, know again very. TRANSPARENT i
live In, pike being In pike for a long. Time
three one seven four one eight seven eight oh. One,
AGAIN i will give out the Website Annette johnson twenty
twenty six dot com if you will love to volunteer
because early voting starts This saturday at The Pike. LIBRARY
(01:19:06):
i need you and so we'll be there from eleven
am six pm engaging with the. Constituent early. Voting, yeah early.
Voting so, yeah we got to encourage people to get
out and vote because this is this is so so very.
Important we have a caller that has a quick, Question.
Nata we have a very short amount of. Time go
ahead with your.
Speaker 9 (01:19:26):
Question, Okay Trustee, johnson how are you? HI i just
have a quick question little if you are still interested
in being a trustee in your heart is in this, position.
Speaker 5 (01:19:41):
CAN i ask why you're running for?
Speaker 10 (01:19:42):
Mayor, well the mayor thing is out there as you,
know that's what news media.
Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
Does they put it out there in the air. Waves
individuals have came and said you would be a good
leader or a great candidate for, mayor and that race is.
Now you haven't. DECLARED i haven't declared or.
Speaker 10 (01:20:00):
Anything it's just political.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
Talk well is that anything that you might aspire to
now that we HAVE i MEAN i might aspire to. It,
YEAH i mean who.
Speaker 10 (01:20:09):

CHARLER i mean they Are every line we have is
flashing at the.
Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
Time so, yeah we've had we've had a lot of
a lot of interest in in candidates coming on and
sharing their their platforms and their campaigns and asking for
voters and for votes from. Voters And i'm sure that
that's going to continue because we're going to keep scheduling
(01:24:41):
them as much as we possibly, can so please stay
tuned for more on that one of nine of the
township trustees and That johnson just. Left She's Pike township,
trustee long Standing Pike township trustee and running for her third.
Term and interesting call there toward the end where someone
(01:25:02):
said you're running for? Mayor that was news to me
and Candidate johnson or. Trustee johnson said it was news
to her as well because she has not declared for.
Anything although although you know how speculation and gossip not,
gossip BUT i won't even say, Gossip i'll say, speculation you.
Know and she didn't. Deny she, said it's always in
(01:25:24):
the back of your. Mind But i'm not you, Know
i'm not doing it right. Now i'm focusing on the.
Trustee and you know, what if you ask any candidate that,
question are you? Running you, know someone who's currently holding
an office and maybe seeking a different, One are you
going to? Run are you going to? Declare and the
answer invariably is always going to be right, NOW i
(01:25:46):
want to focus on What i'm. Doing i'm not going
to worry about that, because and this is a good,
point you don't know how things are going to shape
up between the mayoral. Race the race for mayor city
Of indianapolis isn't until twenty twenty. Seven we got to
get through the twenty twenty six primary and midterms, first
and then got a whole another year in twenty twenty
seven to look at the mayoral and municipal. Elections and so,
(01:26:11):
TRUE i can't SAY i disagree with her there at.
All she's she that's the. Answer that's the. Answer it.
Speaker 4 (01:26:18):
Is it's like so sometime still to see what happens
in the mayoral.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Here, well let's speaking of. Time let's get let's get
mister time in here right, now mister always on. Time
Danny bridge's sports writer with The Indianapolis, Recorder, danny how
are you? Hello?
Speaker 5 (01:26:37):
Danny, HEY i have an. Announcement oh oh, wow you
running for? Mayor exactly. RIGHT i thought about that listening
to you. EARLIER i, mean, LOOK i think it's time
for a, handsome modest.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Candidate, well jump right in. There the water's just, FINE i, hear, so,
well why? Not how you? Doing we got a big night.
Tonight uh, hey you know what we, Were we were bandying.
Around uh the thought nobody. Came nobody called in with
any in forward text or. Anything but can you remember
the last time An indiana athlete has been a number
(01:27:18):
one draft prospect across the board, anyway in any? Sport
can you remember the last?
Speaker 5 (01:27:23):
Time? NO i really. Can't, yeah if you stop and,
THINK i, MEAN i, MEAN i always felt the best
best two or three basketball players EVER i you Or Isaiah,
Thomas george. McGinnis, SO i mean they could have been
legitimate number one. PICKS i don't know that they. Were in,
(01:27:44):
fact they. Weren't but, no that's a that's a good.
QUESTION i it may not, exist.
Speaker 3 (01:27:50):
So it could.
Speaker 5 (01:27:52):
Be, yeah but there's there's some better athletes in the
history In indiana than the young man who's going to
be chosen, tonight and he's earned. It i'm going to
make sure everybody out there understands my.
Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
Statement i'm just a big draft doesn't just, athletic you know,
NECESSARY i, mean it's just who's number one and now
and in the in the the the box of number
one draft, pick we haven't had one THAT i know
of From.
Speaker 5 (01:28:16):
Indiana rabbit had an official. One you're aut. CORRECT i
think we've had a couple of guys who qualified for that.
Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
Slot but, Well, yeah your draft doesn't necessarily, determinability as we, know.
Speaker 5 (01:28:29):
But it does determine, well it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
Doesn't oh, yeah to change to change to, CHIN i would.
Speaker 5 (01:28:34):
Say, oh what is it? Now about forty? Five roughly
about what six hours from? Now, Uh mendoza will be
having that worth of about fifty five million Dollars and
that's just in. Salary that doesn't talk about whatever endorsements
he will pick. UP i think he'll pick up endorsements
(01:28:56):
because and again this is just, prospective clean cut, guy
squeaky clean has done well in. College there's a lot
of positive attributes about being associated with that type of the.
Individual that type meaning you, know a guy who's done
(01:29:17):
things the right, way never had an ounce of trouble
in his, life just projects a really, good wholesome. Image,
now the other side of that, is can this guy
play at the next? Level and we'll find out in,
Time but he can't deny the fact that he's going
to be worth fifty five million dollars in about six.
Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
Hours and to, me that's WHAT i take that money
and rete.
Speaker 5 (01:29:43):
Just the product of the, system and the system is
such where you know he won't be Allowed, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:29:51):
Yeah, indeed, great, great. Great, so, well that's. Fantastic it's
absolutely fantastic that and then he there will be at
least one other from that championship. TEAM i think the
wide Receiver cooper Or Mark Cooper JUNIOR i.
Speaker 8 (01:30:07):
DRAFTED i.
Speaker 5 (01:30:07):
DON'T i don't know what his his slot will. BE
i think it depends on who wants a wide receiver
or susan who needs the wide. Receiver definitely got some.
Talent he's going to be, Drafted he's going to be. Signed,
uh but you know, THAT i think where he ends,
UP i think that's it he. Wants, YES i, mean
you can slot guys in certain, numbers BUT i, uh you,
(01:30:31):
KNOW i think the first pick tonight is a no
brainer because of the quarterback. Position and, UH i do,
BELIEVE i do believe that the young man From, Alabama Ty,
simpson will be drafted in the first round as. WELL
i really do. Believe a lot of a lot of folks, say,
no he's a second. ROUNDER i think somebody's gonna either
draft him in the first round or make a trade
(01:30:52):
to get up to the first round to get. HIM
i think he's got. Potential i'm going to say something
And i'm gonna get a lot of heat for. THIS
i think you got the potential to be the best
quarterback in this draft as A nfl. Player could be,
wrong but only time will.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
Tell, Indeed, well your Buddy jeff has a question for, You.
Danny he's been. Waiting imagine. That, yeah there we, Go,
jeff how are? You danny is? Here? Jeff Did jeff
take off on?
Speaker 3 (01:31:24):
Us he's still still he was still hanging On. Jeff.
Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
Hello, well, Okay Well jeff call us, back call us.
Speaker 5 (01:31:35):
Back so always good to talk to.
Speaker 2 (01:31:38):
Him, yeah, yeah He's he's usually got an interesting, perspective no.
DOUBT i think that's him calling back. Now but, anyway go.
Speaker 5 (01:31:45):
Ahead SO i think the draft has told us a
couple of different. Things, obviously it serves a purpose about
slotting players with their new. Teams but THE nfl has
done A i think a brilliant job of remaining relevant
in the off season playoffs to Super, bowl Super, bowl to,
combine combine to, draft draft to training. Camp they're never
(01:32:10):
really out of the. Picture they're always. Relevant why they're
the big gorilla in the, room and, uh why they
make the most. Money but, uh it's just interesting how
the draft is evolved into a major event rather than simply,
okay who's going to draft to who's going? WHERE i
(01:32:30):
can remember when it was simply a one day draft
and it was over. With but But i'm an old.
Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
Man, yeah well, no, no, Indeed, Hey jeff is, Back,
danny go, Ahead, jeff how are you can you?
Speaker 5 (01:32:42):
Guys hear?
Speaker 2 (01:32:43):
Me, yes we? Can now we? Can now? Cool how are?
You oh?
Speaker 11 (01:32:48):
Good you know with the Whole mandelz the thing yet
speaky clean got The clark kid thing going.
Speaker 3 (01:32:53):
One, yeah we do as he.
Speaker 11 (01:32:54):
Does oh, uh but THEN i know you're aware of.
This there have been some controversy about him about some
old post he made some five years.
Speaker 5 (01:33:01):
Ago i'm not aware of.
Speaker 11 (01:33:05):
It educate, me but it was regarding the Whole George floyd.
Matter and he has since apologized for. It and you,
know he said he was young and he didn't, know you,
know all of the. Dynamics but but, uh, YEAH i
think he.
Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
Was just about.
Speaker 11 (01:33:22):
Five you run a whole. Town the whole pro nineteen
twenty protests was going. On he made some comments About
Lebron james and basically took his swipe That Lebron james
about supporting the Whole, uh protest that was going on
at the. Time SO i do think he's gonna end
up with The. RAIDERS i do think. That and my
second question is what teams are in need of a?
Speaker 5 (01:33:43):
Quarterback, well to your to your point about man Does,
yeah a lot of young people make mistakes and say.
THINGS i will simply say, THIS i don't know anything
about The George floyd. Comments but anyone who made a
disparaging comment about The George floyd Situation Lebron. James he
(01:34:06):
took a swipe Of Lebron. James Actually, Okay, WELL i don't,
know but the specifics we. Know young people make. Mistakes
let's hope that that was a bad moment if indeed
it occurred the way you are reporting. It but as
far as these, QUARTERBACKS i think just about three quarters
(01:34:26):
of the league could really use a good. Prospect, now,
granted there are teams that are solid at. Quarterback you
look At Chicago Caleb. WILLIAMS i do think Bo nicks
is going to be a long term fix.
Speaker 3 (01:34:39):
In.
Speaker 5 (01:34:39):
DENVER i still think there's gas in the tank For
Matthew stafford In Los. Angeles but there are a lot
of teams that do need quarterbacks And that's WHY i
think the young man From alabama will be drafted in
the first round and not even though a lot of
folks say he might fall to the second. ROUND i
don't think that's going to, happen simply because of the
(01:34:59):
fact there's a shortage of, quarterbacks and so to your,
point he could use a quarterback at least half the league,
Probably but you know what a good, season a good playoff.
Run next, thing you, know a quarterback citing not on.
Extension so maybe it's not as bad AS i look at.
(01:35:19):
It but two things for. Sure number, one there's always
room for another one A number, two they're gonna make
a lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:35:25):
Money, yeah they're all going to Make everybody in that
first round is going to make a lot of. Money
and good luck to all of. Them good luck to them. All,
danny you had some comments or some thoughts about the.
Fever what's going on with? Them what's going on with
what's going?
Speaker 5 (01:35:44):
On, well it's that time of year for. Them they
appear to be they appear to be. HEALTHY i think
their guard heavy with their, Roster i'm not. Sure i'm
not sure if that means he will play three guards at.
Once i'm not as smart about basketball coaching Is stephanie White.
IS i want to make that perfectly clear as it
(01:36:05):
pertains to the, game not just the women's, game but
the game in. GENERAL a very smart, lady successful, player
an articulate, announcer and has done a reasonably good, job
to say the least as far as her exploits as
a coach in THE. Wnba SO i want second guess.
Her don't know who goes to the table with those,
decisions you, know the consortium of minds that come together
(01:36:28):
about draft and free. Agency but it's obvious they're a
big guard heavy that maybe somebody gets. Traded who. Knows but,
again maybe they're thinking about depth and making sure they
have a lot of it because certainly they had a
lot of injuries last. Year but a couple of Things
i've thought, about and maybe you can help me on
this a little. Bit the first ONE i Think i've
(01:36:49):
gotten ailed in terms of why they haven't sold out
to their home. Opener and THEN i see AND i
understand more about. It now every game they play this
year is on television in some, format so people have
the ability to watch it in their own homes, versus, hey,
well we're going to PAY x Y z to go
(01:37:09):
see them in. Person that probably has an impact on.
Speaker 2 (01:37:12):
That don't you THINK i did not know that they
had not sold out the home? Opener again at what? Point?
Yeah BUT i mean the home opener is what?
Speaker 5 (01:37:20):
Date that's? About that's about a Week it's about a
week week and a half, away.
Speaker 2 (01:37:26):
Right, oh do you know how? CLOSE i. DON'T i
haven't been watching.
Speaker 5 (01:37:29):
THAT i look. Today here's the here's the barometer for
me when you when you go on to. It and
like any, team they use their main focus for online.
Shows This, ticketmaster which is too. Bad AND i say
that about concerts as well as ball. GAMES i don't Like,
ticketmaster but this is not a personal. Rant the point
is there's a lot of upper level seats available at reasonable.
(01:37:53):
Prices now that indicates two things to. Me number, one
they haven't sold, them and number, two the price as.
Well now that's not to say they won't sell the
game out between now and, then but if you, don't
have they superficially or artificially or unintentionally even done this
(01:38:16):
to themselves with A Tv and that can be said
for the league that certainly the fever being the focal
Point Caitlin, clark et. Cetera and how much of you
know that is being projected, nationally not just locally from
a televised. Standpoint so that was surprises me a little.
Bit but again there's still some time for the walk
(01:38:37):
up gate to take its. COURSE i also see a
lot of the lower level seats on the secondary. Market,
Hey i'll buy this seat for two hundred. Dollars i'll
try to sell it for someone who wants to go
See Kitlin clark for six hundred dollars or whatever the numbers.
Are those are all. Hypothetical that is something that doesn't surprise.
Me the amount of those seats for sale tells me
(01:38:59):
one of. Two everybody wants to be an, entrepreneur or
everyone's going to get caught with some tickets on their
hands because the market may not be that strong for expensive,
keyword expensively marked up. Tickets so time will. TELL i
think it's here's the next QUESTION i, have AND i
(01:39:21):
want to make SURE i frame this. CAREFULLY i understand
what image is. ABOUT i understand the social media piece
as much as someone might in my old age can understand.
IT i understand the, BRAND i understand what appearance means,
appearance meaning the physical appearance of an, athlete whether that
be a man or. LADY i noticed that Media day
(01:39:44):
all of the ladies came out in, uniform but they
all had their own specific cosmetic appeal as well going,
on AND i thought to, Myself, no wait a. Minute
when you play, ball you put your hair back in
a ponytail and you go out it you don't have
any makeup. On is there a different said how you're
projected by the media at media day versus how the
fans see you in.
Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
ACTION i everybody dresses up for. PICTURE i just want
TO i don't you. KNOW i never really dug into that.
Speaker 5 (01:40:13):
One it's not a dress. Up it's not a dress up.
Thing i'm, talking you, know. Plasmatically everybody's got the same
uniform on so that they're not dressing. Up but to your, point,
Specifically i've, noticed both with the men and the women
in professional, basketball the trip from the bus to the
locker room has become a fashion. Runway well, yeah the.
Speaker 2 (01:40:37):
Fitball, yeah everybody. Has everybody's trying to have the best,
fit you, know which is short for. Outfit you, know.
Speaker 5 (01:40:45):
What does that what does that really?
Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
Equate to social. Media that's what it equates. To but,
yeah the fitball and look at so and so fit
and who had this and?
Speaker 5 (01:40:55):
That one step, further what does that equate? TO i
don't see the connection, Financially.
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
There's there's got to be one.
Speaker 5 (01:41:04):
Somewhere, WELL i, mean if you've got to if you've
got a deal to wear a certain, apparel like, Hey
i'm gonna wear you know whatever the most famous, ladies
well you get you get.
Speaker 2 (01:41:15):
Likes and views on your. Page and if your, page
if you're you know it all.
Speaker 3 (01:41:21):
Connects could it be a chance to do some modeling
to Med.
Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
Yeah you're, auditioning you're Doing it's all about. Views it's
all about page views and impressions AND i mean you name.
It and most of these folks that are that are
doing the fit walk they got, pages they got, pages
and they're truly.
Speaker 5 (01:41:40):
MONETIZED i.
Speaker 2 (01:41:40):
Guess, Yes i'm, Sorry YES i think, SO i Truly but, anyway,
okay go.
Speaker 5 (01:41:48):
AHEAD i think we would know more if if somebody
was A christian or or a you know whoever the
ladies fashion leaders are, today be.
Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
There are there are some in the w who are
doing a bang up. Job The Angel. Reese what's your?
Name Aflage? Johnson, WELL i want The Asia. Wilson they're they're, all,
uh they're all doing well in, fashion and there's a lot.
More there's a whole lot more of.
Speaker 5 (01:42:16):
It BUT i want to make one thing perfectly clear
before we quit talking about that, note is that if
IF i was truly handsome AND i was an, ATHLETE
i would do all that. Myself if it was, PROFITABLE
i want to. MAKE i hope they all make as
much money as.
Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
Possible, indeed, hey very, Quickly, Uh, IndyCar this is the
last thing on your list. Here Indy cars tested ims
next week because.
Speaker 5 (01:42:39):
Next tuesday And wednesday they'll have full day open, testing
both with the rookies as well as the. Veterans that
the prelude to The Indianapolis Grand, prix which is the
first weekend In, may excuse, me the second weekend In,
may and of COURSE i probably in The annapolis five.
Hundred the test next week are, free there's certain areas
you can fit. In you can go to their website
(01:42:59):
and it'll about. That but it's time And i'm looking
forward to.
Speaker 2 (01:43:03):
That all, Right we'll talk to you, Soon. Danny thank.
You so so very. Much thank, you have a good
one And Willie Moore junior is up right after. This
we'll be back. Tomorrow thanks for. Listening we'll see you
