Speaker 1 (00:16):
Good Sunday morning, and welcome to the David Chadwick Show.
David's taken one more week of sabbatical, so let's play
a show from a few weeks ago on the conflicts
and relationship between Israel and Persia right here on The
David Chadwick Show.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Hi everyone, I'm David Chadwick and this is News Talk
eleven ten ninety nine three WBT. Welcome to the show.
In case you don't know, this is a faith in
values program that tries to intersect faith in values with
what's going along locally and globally. It's been a pleasure
doing this show now for twenty five plus years. Many
thanks to Perry's Find Jewelry for your sponsorship of the show.
Without you, I could not do this on a weekly basis.

(01:03):
Well today, I thought it would be an appropriate program
to look at the Israel and Iran crisis that has
occurred I think is going to continue to occur for
some time now, and I want to try to help
all of us understand what in the world is going on,
but especially in the next segment, begin to unwrap Iran

(01:24):
or Persia's history with Israel. Dear friends. It goes back
twenty five hundred plus years they have intersected with one another,
and not always have they been enemies. That's only happened
more intensely since nineteen seventy nine when the Shah was
overthrown and the Iatolas took over, and this intense hatred

(01:48):
of Israel has occurred. But we see this conflict going on,
especially since nineteen seventy nine, but biblically and historically that
has not always been the case. So I'll unred that
in the second segment today, and let's talk about what
has happened in Iran. I mean, with the bottom line
being that there was a real sense that if Iran

(02:12):
got nuclear weapons that they would then first attack Israel.
Why because they call Israel the little Satan and they
want Israel eradicated from the face of this earth. And
then there was the thought as well that they would
arm nuclear missiles and maybe even fire them toward America,
because America is the great Satan in their lives, Israel's

(02:36):
the little Satan. America is the great Satan. So having
been armed with nuclear weaponry, that has been a debate
now for the last ten, maybe twenty years, trying to
prevent Iran from being fully armed with nuclear weapons. There
was this sense from President Trump and Benjamin Natanyahu that

(02:58):
Iran was within just a few days of having nine
to fifteen nuclear weapons, and indeed, the International Atomic Energy
Agency agreed with that, and they even had a UN
Security Council nineteen member vote to tell Iran to stop

(03:19):
their nuclear fusion capacity. Now some people ask at this point, well,
wait a minute, shouldn't they have the ability to have
nuclear energy. The difference between nuclear energy and nuclear enrichment
is huge. Nuclear energy, yes, they should have that right
to do whatever they want to do with their nuclear power,
to empower their cities and give energy to their citizenry.

(03:42):
But when it becomes enriched, that's when it becomes nuclear capable,
and that's when the danger actually happens. So that's how
close they were within weeks of nuclear enrichment, and that's
why President Trump and nettin Yahoo thought they needed to
initiate a preemptive strike to keep Iran from having those

(04:04):
nuclear weapons. It was brilliant in its strategy, in the
way that it happened, the deafness of it, the slight
of hand, was extraordinary. I have some friends who are
in the military. They said, the way this unfolded was
unbelievably surreptitious and amazingly strategic. So that's what happened with

(04:25):
what happened the couple of weeks ago when we saw
Iran attacked, and it seems like from everything we're hearing
that their nuclear ability to enrich uranium has been severely hampered.
And we won't know for sure until all of the
evidence is there whether they'll ever be able to recommence

(04:46):
that ability or not, but for now it looks like
that that has stopped. Will there be peace in that
area of the world. I doubt it, simply because Iran
has made it very clear as long as the Iatola
Kamane in power that they hate Israel, they want Israel's
utter destruction. Now let me make one parenthetical statement here.

(05:07):
The Iranian people are precious. I know so many wonderful
Iranian Persian people as they're called in the Bible, and
they are beautiful people. Actually, for those of us who
are Christians, the fastest growing church in the world is
the Iranian Church. Amazingly, Iranians are seeing visions and dreams

(05:27):
of Jesus and they're actually coming to faith in him.
With the iatola trying to keep them from coming to faith.
So we love the Iranian people, but it seems like
the Ayatola and the leaders are really harsh and evil,
and they're the ones that need to be overthrown. And
that's one of my hopes at least is that we
can see regime change whatever you want to call it,

(05:47):
but these iatola is gone and the people be able
to rule their lives the way they want to. Pre
nineteen seventy nine, when you have pictures of Iran being
one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Ed
your thoughts.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
You know, when you talk religious leaders, David here, Christians
in the church, you know, it's all about love and God.
These are supposed to be religious leaders, and yet it's
the Satanic evil Hamas has belaw all these little outliers. Yeah,
the proxies, the proxies they're called. Yeah, can you trust them?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
No?

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Look at their activities and what they've done here just recently.
So this is going to be a great show.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Well, I hope people will appreciate it because where I
want to go now with that as background, the hatred
that has existed between Iran and Israel since nineteen seventy nine.
It's not always been the case in fact biblically, and
that's what I love to do as a biblical scholar,
go back to the history itself. Biblically, Iran called Persia

(06:42):
was very friendly toward the Jews around six hundred BC
or so. It's only been of late that that hatred
has increased. So what I want to do today on
this show is to look at that biblical history and
try to understand it and appreciate it, and may be
pray that there could be a reclamation of all of

(07:04):
those good feelings that used to exist between Persia and Israel,
and that we could truly have peace in the Mideast
because Psalm one twenty two, verse six says pray for
the peace of Jerusalem. And that's what I want to
do today, Lord, let there be peace. I'm David Chadwick,
will be right back. But I lived to a shift

(08:25):
you on my life for a.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Simple malities You sid until I had open hands, open heart, curity.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
One Ah, Your presence is.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
My treasure, my.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Knowing you. He said, everything to how they go blesser
things you know.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Well.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Our great faith is in the Lord God who created
everything in the universe, even all of the nations. We
trust in Him and his sovereign plan.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Hi.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Everyone, I'm David Chadwick and this is News Talk eleven,
ten ninety nine three WBT. Welcome back to the show.
My friend Ed Billick, my producer as well, has opened
up his microphone to join me in this conversation because
I felt like I'd be remiss if I didn't help
all of us understand the biblical perspective on Iran, which
used to be called Persia until nineteen thirty two. It

(09:33):
was in nineteen thirty two that Persia became Iran, and
there is a deep, rich biblical history that is there
between these two nations. Now, let me just first of all,
begin by saying God is sovereign over all of history,
that God oversees all of the nations of the earth.
In fact, in Matthew twenty five, in the Judgment of

(09:54):
the Sheep and the Goats, Jesus is going to bring
all of the nations before him, the text says, and
He's going to divide the sheep and the ghost from
all of those who are in those nations. So it's
just a very clear statement that Jesus is lord over
all of the nations. Now, it's also Acts seventeen twenty

(10:16):
six where Paul was on the Aragopolis in Mars Hill
in Athens and he talks to these unbelievers and he
talks about a God who set the boundaries of every neighborhood,
which implies God has set the boundaries of every nation
for all times. So we just need to keep that
in mind as we move forward with this idea. Now

(10:39):
real briefly, let me give you a biblical history of Persia.
Here's what it is. There are major nations that exist biblically.
The first major one is Egypt, and we see that
with Moses and the Israelites coming out of Egypt. That's
the first great nation that's talked about in the Bible.

(11:00):
The second one is the Assyrian nation. The capital city
of that is Ninevah. That is the story of Jonah
who was told to go to Nineva and preach God's
mercy to this godless, reprobate people. The Assyrians were in
power for a couple of hundred years. They were then
succeeded and taken over by the nation of Babylon. Babylon

(11:22):
is present day Iraq and Nebukanezar was the great king
of Babylon and he succeeded Assyria as the next great nation.
And as you study your biblical history, you know that
in around five thirty six BC, the Babylonian nation was
overtaken by the Meado Persians. They were a conglomerate of

(11:44):
two different entities, the Meds and the Persians. There's a
statement maybe you've heard in your life that if a
law is set, that's like the set law of the
Meads and the Persians. The Persians had many great kings,
from Xerxes to art exert Sees to Cyrus. We'll talk
some more about him in just a second. But the

(12:05):
Meto Persian Empire succeeded the Babylonians and Persia then became
the next great power. Then after some time, Persia was
overthrown by Greece and Alexander the Great, and then finally
Alexander the Great was overthrown by the Roman Empire, which
ruled with an iron fist for hundreds of years. Now,

(12:27):
Persia's name again changed to Iran in nineteen thirty two.
But let's go back way when it was called Persia
and how it intersected with the Israelites in the sixth century.
God warned the Jews that if they continued to disobey him,
that they would go into captivity, that God would take

(12:50):
a good number of their people into captivity. Well, they
did disobey him. They invited all kinds of godless idols
into their country. They practice what's called say criticism. They
kind of mixed their Jewish faith with other godless idolatrous
faiths as well. And again God had warned them that
if that happened, he would vomit them out of the land.

(13:10):
If you look at the prophets from Isaiah through Malachi
in the Bible, in the Old Testament, they constantly warned
Israel and other places as well, you need to repent
or God won't relent in his judgment upon you. Well,
they were taken into that Babylonian captivity with three different exportations,
in six six BC, in five ninety six BC, and

(13:32):
the final one being in five eighty six BC when
Nebekonezer and the Babylonians completely raised Jerusalem to the ground,
destroyed the temple that Solomon had built. Then, Jeremiah says
in his book in the Bible in Jeremiah twenty nine
to ten that the people of Israel will be in
that captivity for seventy years. Makes a specific claim seventy years. Why,

(13:58):
because the Israelites had been in the promised land that
God had given them for four hundred and ninety years.
God had explicitly told them that every seventh year they
needed to give the land rest. Every agricultural horticulturalist out
there right now is going, yes, absolutely, that's what you
need to do with land. You need to give it rest.
And how many times did the Israelites give rest to

(14:21):
the land. That answer would be zero. So if you
look at four hundred and ninety years and the numbers
of years that they did not give that land rest,
seventy years, that's how long they needed to be in
the Babylonian captivity. Was as if God said to them, well,
if you don't give my land rest, I'll give my
land rest. And he took the Babylonians again finally in

(14:42):
five eighty six BC into the Babylonian captivity, and the
promise was they would be there for seventy years. Now.
Daniel in the Bible is one of those who was
taken into the Babylonian captivity. He was a young man
when he went, he was an older man at the end.
And one day it looks like he's reading Isaiah forty
four and forty five. Yes, the scrolls of the prophets

(15:04):
who prophesied before the Babylonian captivity must have existed, and
he's realizing that seventy years is ending soon. But he
also reads in Isaiah forty four and forty five to
one that there's going to be a king named Cyrus. Now, folks,
this was written one hundred and fifty years before Cyrus,
the King of Persia, ever came to power. Isaiah predicted

(15:27):
there'd be a man named Cyrus who would grant the
Israelites the privilege of going back to their land and
rebuilding the temple and restoring them after the seventy years
of the captivity. Well, guess what happened. In five point
thirty six BC. The Persian people present day Iran overtook
the Babylonians. The king that is there is named Cyrus Daniel,

(15:50):
who was second in power to Nebaconezer. At one point
I think, actually went to that king named Cyrus, pointed
out to him Isaiah forty four and forty five. One
is said, look, this is your name actually prophesied one
hundred and fifty years. Now, look at what this says.
You're going to grant the Israelites the privilege of returning

(16:11):
to their land. Guess what happened, folks. Cyrus, so moved
by that prophecy from Isaiah, grants the Israelites returning to
the land five thirty six b Z, exactly seventy years
after they were in the captivity. And Cyrus not only
grants the Israelites the privilege of returning to the land,

(16:33):
he actually supplies the money that's necessary for rebuilding what's
called the Second Temple. And that's what happens when they
go back to the land. You have a guy named
Zerubabul and Haggy Eye, that's another prophet in the Old Testament,
who actually rebuild the temple over a period of about
twenty years. The temple's completion is in five sixteen BC.

(16:55):
And there you have the fulfillment of all of those
prophecies in Isaiah. Forty five four and forty five. Israels
back into the land. Why because of the king of
Persia by the name of Cyrus, A godless reprobate king,
moved by the hand of Almighty God, granted the Israelites
the return to their land. Again, notice the friendliness between

(17:17):
Persia and israel Ed.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Were they then independent David or were they still overseed
by Persia?

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Yeah, they were a vassal state. But what was remarkable
ed was that Cyrus the king granted all that was
necessary in order to rebuild that temple and rebuild the
city of Jerusalem. It's most remarkable and most powerful. Again,
as you see the friendship between Persia and Israel that

(17:45):
existed at that time. Well, fast forward to four forty
four b C. There's a man by the name of
Nehemiah the book in the Bible, who goes to King
art Exerxes, the king of Persia, and ask if he
can go back and rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. The
temple had been rebuilt some seventy years earlier. Now he
wants to rebuild the walls because the spiritual life needed

(18:07):
to be restored with the temple, but then also the
physical life of protecting Jerusalem against enemies needed to be restored.
So if you read the Book of Nhemiah, it's the
story of this man going back with the blessing of
King art Exerxes ed who supplied all the money necessary
for the rebuilding of the walls. So what do you
have another example of a Persian king who blessed an

(18:29):
Israelite leader, as Cyrus did Zerubabyl. Now art Exerxes does
with Nihemiah and he returns as you read again the
Book of Nahemiah, and the walls are rebuilt around Jerusalem,
still a vassal state. But Jerusalem and Israel are now
re established. Why because of two Persian kings. Remarkable. We'll

(18:49):
keep this storyline going when we come back. I'm David
Shadwick and we will be right back.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
Behold, the Lord is my help, the apod of my life.
He will.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Protect me of a evil it put it to Oh, well,
that's my friend Parker Robinson who leads worship at Moments
of Hope Church. And what a wonderful young man he is,
who writes songs about the glory of God.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
Oh God, hear me.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
When hi, everyone, I'm David Chadwick and this is News
Talk eleven, ten ninety nine three WBT. Welcome back to
the show. Well, in the last segment, I gave you
a brief history of the positive interaction of the nation
of Persia, which is present day Iran and the nation
of Israel. And really, as you study that history and

(20:43):
see that King Cyrus helped restore the Jews to the
Promised Land and gave the money necessary for the rebuilding
of the Temple. And then some one hundred years later
King art Exerxes did the same thing with Nehemiah, and
he went back and built the walls around Jerusalem to
protect the city with funding from the King of Persia.

(21:06):
So you can see friendliness that existed between these two.
What do I conclude by that there is a divinely
appointed nation called Persia that is existing for Israel's spiritual
and national restoration. I don't believe God is finished with Israel,

(21:27):
even though there's another dispersion that happens in seventy a
d by the Romans. They've been re established in that land,
because I think God has a special idea for that
nation in that land for his divinely appointed purposes. But
real quickly, before we get to that, let's just look
at the Bible for a couple of other places where

(21:48):
the nation of Persia is mentioned talked about in spiritual warfare.
In Daniel the tenth chapter, verses thirteen and twenty, Daniel
is praying for the angel my Michael to come help
him in a time of great need, and he has
to wait not one week, not two weeks, but three
weeks before Daniel sees Michael appear to him. Well, he

(22:12):
asked him, why did it take you so long? And
Michael says, because the Prince of Persia was doing battle
with me in my attempt to get to you. Now,
if you know your Bible, you know that Michael is
one of the strongest of not the strongest, archangel in
all of heaven. So it speaks to who is the
Prince of Persia, Probably some kind of godless spiritual entity,

(22:36):
maybe Satan himself, who wanted to keep Michael from getting
to Daniel because God didn't want that to happen. But
the devil came and did warfare against Michael because Michael
wanted to get those Israelites back into the Promised Land
for God's particular purposes. So there's spiritual warfare in heaven.
We know it, we experience it. Paul said in Ephesian six.

(22:59):
Our war is not against flesh and blood, but against
the powers and principalities of the darkness. Here you have
the Prince of Persia, who some kind of mighty spiritual
demon fighting Michael the Archangel to come to Daniel in
a time of prayer and a time of need. In
Daniel eight Versus twenty and twenty one, you have Daniel
seeing a vision of the rise and fall of great nations.

(23:21):
And what does he talk about? What he talks about Babylon,
the Meado, Persians, the Greeks, and the Romans. He sees
a vision of those four nations that are the major
powers in the world, and it's also a part of
some end times prophecy as well. But Persia is mentioned
as one of those nations. And for us today, what

(23:42):
does the nation of Iran slash Persia mean for us? Interestingly,
in Ezekiel chapter thirty eight and thirty nine, there is
a gog Gog who is a great and mighty ruler
and may Goog, which suggests nations that are going to
form a coalition in the end times against Israel. And

(24:06):
as we look at Ezekiel thirty eight, verse five, and
we try to id these nations with what we know
geographically today, we know that the three nations to the
north of Israel are Russia, Turkey, and Iran. Isn't it
interesting that amidst all of these international crises, those three

(24:27):
nations have formed a coalition and alliance against Israel, and
they are all to the north of Israel. As Ezekiel
prophesied twenty six hundred years ago, then we know that
there is a nation to the west of Israel, and
we can identify that geographically today as the nation of

(24:47):
Libya that's going to come from the west against Israel.
Then from the south there's going to be the nation
of Sudan, which is very Islamic, also has hated Israel
for a number of years. They're going to come from
the south. Fascinating parenthetically, by the way, dear friends, is
there aren't going to be Arabic nations from the southeast.
And I can help, but wonder if those aren't the

(25:08):
nations of the Abraham accord that they have been able
to make peace with Israel. But at some point these
five nations are going to come against Israel, one of
the being Iran former day Persia, which is mentioned in
Ezekiel thirty eight, again twenty six hundred years ago, there
are a lot of us who believe what's called the
Ezekiel thirty eight war will happen in the end times.

(25:32):
And as you're seeing kings of the East that are
talked about in Revelation sixteen, who will come together and
cross over a dried up Euphrates River, that will come
together with these nations in the battle of Armageddon in
the valley of the Guiddo against Israel. Then God will
intervene at the very last moment. Jesus is going to
return and he's going to establish his kingdom here on
this earth. That's what the Bible teaches. But the fascinating

(25:54):
thing is there's a coalition that will come against Israel,
and one of those coalitions will be the nation of Iran,
along with Russia and Turkey from the north. By the way,
Premier Erewan in Turkey has already said, we need to
get all the Arab nations of the world to come
together and go to the Temple Mount and kick every

(26:14):
Jew off the Temple Mount and make sure the Alaska
Mosque is in complete tact in order for them to
continue in their Islam. More and more Jews right now
are going on the Temple Mount in nineteen sixty seven
when there was the Seven Day War now the Sixth
Day War. Interestingly, the Temple Mount was the one place

(26:35):
that the Jews took over. There was an international objection
for the Jews to control that Temple mounta because the
Alaska Mosque is there. So Jordan has been overseeing the
Temple Mount for years, and no Jew has been allowed
to go on the Temple Mount and bow and pray.
Until recently there have been literally hundreds who are mounting
the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, bowing their knees, lying prostrate

(26:57):
before God and praying to Almighty God, might that temple
might be a part of this confurgation that's going to
bring Turkey Iran, and then Russia has alliances with them
in order to come against Israel.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
Ed David, just as a thought is in riding in
the car going to services, listening to you at home.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
It's this is religious. This is religious.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
I mean, Israel's the size of the state of New
Jersey right right, the small little area, okay, and all
these powers that are against them. That should be an
easy takeover. But this is the religious. This is definitely
Christians versus.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Help us understand well, there's spiritual warfare that's a part
of this ed. In my humble opinion, I believe that
little slice of real estate the size of the state
of New Jersey is very important to God because he
promised it to those Jews in perpetuity. Now there are
Christians who don't agree with me on this, I want
to note that, but this is where I have landed

(27:54):
after intense Bible study, and God wants that land to
be controlled by the Jews to be the place where
Jesus returns to. It was a promise given to Abraham
and his seed in perpetuity, which means forever, and I
don't think God is renigged on that promise to Abraham.
So I think this is Satan's attempt to use nations

(28:16):
to eradicate Israel from the face of this earth so
that Jesus doesn't have a place to where he can return.
That's how Satan operates well, if Jesus can't return to
that land and establish himself in what I think is
the third rebuilt temple, the second one destroyed, the one
that had been rebuilt by Zerubabyl. It was destroyed in
seventy a d. There's not been a third temple rebuilt.

(28:38):
But I think when the Antichrist steps on the scene,
which he will do, he will offer as a peace accord,
and it's going to be a seven year peace accord
among all of these nations after the Ezekiel thirty eight war,
and that peace accord is going to allow Israel to
rebuild its third Temple. That's what I believe. And that's
when the Antichrist is going to step on the scene
and make all these promises to the world, bring about

(28:58):
world peace, and then he's going to return and he's
going to turn against Israel after three and a half
years in the temple, and there'll be the huge then
seven seal trumpet and bold judgments that will be poured
out on Israel as God tries to bring people to
faith in him in those last efforts, and then Jesus
is going to come back.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
So why is the center of hatred here in twenty
twenty five the country of Iran?

Speaker 2 (29:23):
Well, Iran, if you believe in Daniel ten and the
Prince of Persia, that there's a powerful spiritual entity that
exists in leading I think the Iranian leaders, they are
godless ed. They have caused their people to suffer. If
a woman doesn't wear her he job in public, she
could have her eye taken out. Women who simply take

(29:46):
off their he jobs in public and show their hair,
they can be arrested and beaten. There was one young
woman who did somersaults down the street just to show
her freedom, and they arrested her and beat her. I
don't think that's of God. How they have over their
people's amaze. It's unbelievable and it's godless and it's evil power.
So I think the Iatolahs are being used by Satan

(30:06):
for his purposes. Again, the people are precious. I wish
there was an overthrow of the Iatolas. But again I
think this is a spiritual war, a hatred against Israel,
that land, that people, because that's the people that brought
in Jesus into the world, who will ultimately topple Satan.
The Genesis three point fifteen prophecy right after the Fall
that Satan would have his head crushed by one born

(30:28):
of a woman, born of Mary, and that we would
see the power of God come to this earth. So
that's understanding Iran, and a little greater depth will try
to wrap this up when we come back I'm David Chadwick,
and we will return in a moment.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
There's joy our stories because we know our God is
a console of the fun. What's your fabu? Before the
data play, we rot the ties of figure out.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Stay everyone. I'm David Chadwick and this is News Talk eleven,
ten ninety nine three WBT. This is the day that
the Lord has made. And if he hasn't made this
day and all days, then we don't have a reason

(32:18):
to believe and have hope. Well, I want to tell
all of you I'm going to take a few Sundays
off over the month of July, Maryland and I are
going to go away on a sabbatical and just rest
a little bit. We've been pushing really hard with a
new church that we have formed, Moments of Hope Church,
a great church with wonderful people. But we're going to
take a break and look forward to having that break.

(32:40):
So we'll have some of our favorite programs that we've
done over the last several months and tell.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
Us Yeah, We've picked off about four shows that we
think are worth a replay and they're precious. I'll just
leave it at that. I know one will end up
on forgiveness. But I know you had your son in here,
and we had some other ones. So yeah, that's what
we'll hear the whole month of July.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Well, I hope you enjoy them, people, And it really
has been a wonderful last several months to have people
like my son and my son in law who's going
to be redone, as well as a show on how
to understand the Bible. So I hope you'll enjoy it.
Please hang in there. I will be back in August
with my beloved hopefully refreshed and renewed and ready to
get back into the game.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
So David, I mean, if you've been listening to the show, folks,
he's been hitting us with a fire hose, I mean
smoke coming on my ears.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Talking biblically. Why Iran and Israel are just sew at
each other, Well, again, I think it's a spiritual war.
I think Iran's Ayatolas are controlled by the evil One.
I think their hatred for Israel is unfounded and certainly ungodly,
but I think it's all part of the end times.
As we looked at Ezekiel thirty eighth, there's going to

(33:46):
be a coalition of three nations Russia, Turkey, and Iran
from the north that are going to invade Israel at
some point, partly because of some of the resources that
they have. Did you know that Israel is the third
largest exporter of fruit through the world. It's unbelievable. They
have such great resources. But a lot of it's because
of their brilliance with irrigation and other things like that.

(34:07):
Mark Twain visited Israel in the eighteen hundreds and he said,
what a desolate wasteland, what a swamp, and he said,
nothing good could ever come out of here. Well look
what's happened, and it's because of the brilliance of the
Israeli people, who no irrigation and no farming techniques, et cetera.
But Russia, Turkey, and Iran Old Persia are going to
want to take Israel's land, and it'll be a part

(34:29):
of the end times conflagration of God coming to Israel's rescue,
Jesus returning and setting up his kingdom. I think in Jerusalem,
ruling from the Third Temple, which will be rebuilt. But
I gave people a lot, and I know it was
a fire hose, and I hope they enjoyed it. A
little bit of the biblical history of Persia, which is
now Iran. But my purpose is really not only to

(34:51):
give you the biblical history. My purpose is to tell
you that God appoints every single nation. There is no
bounce that's drawn on any nation in the history of
the world that God didn't draw. God is the sovereign
lord over all of history, and in drawing the boundaries

(35:12):
of every nation Acts seventeen twenty six. God's in control
of every nation. So as you look at the Iran
and Israel and Russia and Turkey and other national tensions
and international tensions that are going on, we just need
to remember God is in control. He began history in

(35:35):
Genesis one. He spoke a word and all creation came
into existence. And He controls history, the evil that has happened,
and all the good that has happened, and one day
history will conclude. And we need to remind ourselves that
history is His story. There's a story of God that
I think has been outlined in the Bible, from Genesis

(35:55):
one to one through Revelation twenty two. And as we
read that history and get afraid, as we see all
these crazy things happen in the world, we should say
our God is in control. He's overseeing all of human history.
There is a spiritual entity that's trying to cause evil
to come into this world. God uses evil for good,

(36:16):
he says so Genesis fifty twenty, Romans eight twenty eight,
other places in the Bible, and we need to trust
him as we see history unfold before our very eyes.
I just find it fascinating that Ezekiel thirty eight. It
talks about a nation called Iran, a nation that's going
to come against Israel. And here we are, twenty six
hundred years later, there are a coalition of three nations, Russia,

(36:38):
Turkey and Iran ready to come against Israel.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
Ed.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Oh gosh, you know, and who made us?

Speaker 3 (36:44):
You know?

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Where did we come from? So it's all God's plan.
And if you believe that, like where, then we're on
a road to heaven. Somedays He's going to take care
of his people.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
He will take care of his people. And isn't that
good news? Isn't that wonderful? I mean, I say all
the time, if the sun comes up in the morning,
there's hope. Well, who's the one that allows the son
to come up in the morning? Is the Lord God
of the universe who raises the sun and then lowers
the sun and places the moon his day, and he's

(37:18):
in control of everything. So as you look at what's
going on in the Mideast, maybe my idea of God
giving that nation of Israel a land in perpetuity promised
to Abraham, the father of the Israelites, and that nation
is to be overseen by Israel, not just for them
to control it, but for divine purposes. That God has

(37:39):
a plan and it's all going to be worked out.
There's also an enemy of our soul, Satan, who hates
the plans of God. He hates that Jesus, first of all,
came into the world in a stable in Bethlehem. But
secondly he's going to come back again and he's going
to crush Satan's head the promise of the prophecy in
Genesis three fifteen. So we should live, dear friends, in agony,

(38:01):
not in fear. We should look at all that's happening
historically around us, and say, what a great God we serve,
what a wonderful savior we have. He is in control,
and the one who came first as a cradle into
a cradle in Bethlehem is going to come again as
a roaring lion, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

(38:21):
That should give all of us great hope.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
David, give some advice. I mean, how will you spend
your sabbatical? I know you're such a faithful guy. Morning prayers,
evening prayers. How do you spend your day.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
With the Lord?

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Well?

Speaker 2 (38:32):
I get up every morning and I take the Bible,
and I have two devotionals I'm reading right now, one
from Billy Graham, the other from a guy named Andrew Murray,
one of the old dead saints, but who was a
remarkable man of God. And I contemplate and ponder their devotionals,
and then I write down what I sense they're saying
to me that I need to know about today. Then
I'm reading through the Book of Acts right now, and

(38:54):
I'm in Acts eighteen, and I read just, you know,
ten twelve verses, and then I just contemplate those verses.
I meditate on those verses like a cow chewing its cud.
I just try to get every ounce of nutrition out
of those verses, and I write down what I think
it's saying to me. Then I finally write down my
prayers my prayers for ed Billick, my prayers for other friends,

(39:14):
my prayers for my family, my prayers for the nation,
my prayers for the world, and also just a prayer
of faith that God truly is in control and I
don't need to worry about anything. I'll do that every
morning this summer in July. But actually I do that
every morning even if I'm not on sabbatical.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
I know you pray for all of us, Dave, the
entire listening listeners here of WBT twenty five years.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Now, twenty five plus, and it's just been a great ride.
And I'm so thankful and for what we're doing in Barnardsville,
North Carolina, that we who collected four hundred plus thousand
dollars that are now changing a whole community wiped out
by the flood, and we're just thankful that we had
the chance to do so. So everyone, may I pray
for you as I leave you for a month and
then come back to you in August. Father in Heaven,

(39:58):
in Jesus' name, thank you for these listeners. Thank you
they tune in every week. I pray for every single
one of them. Whatever your need may be. May Jesus
meet your need, whatever heart hurt you have, May Jesus
be your healing balm. No matter what you're going through,
May you experience the presence of Jesus. The antidote to
fear in the Bible is faith. May God give you

(40:19):
great faith to realize He's in control of everything, all
the nations of this earth, everything that's going on in
your life. So trust him today, yield your heart to him.
Believe that He's in control, and he has a great,
great plan for your life, and he will never ever
forsake or desert you. I pray all of this in
the name of Jesus. Amen. Everyone look forward to talking

(40:41):
with you again in August.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
