Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to the Ravens Press Past Podcast. It is Friday,
October twenty fourth. The Ravers are getting ready to play
the Chicago Bears at mmt BA Stadium on Sunday at
one o'clock. As they made their final preparations for that game.
After practice today, we had a chance to hear from
head coach John Harbaugh.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Okay, good seeing everybody, appreciate you being here, good practice,
locked in, trying to get ready to play our best
football on Sunday. That's our hope and our plan. We
questions you have you have don't you want to hear
about everybody? Oh? That's the one. Okay, appreciate, appreciate ynasty.
(00:46):
I know this. He practiced today, full practice today, So
that was good. And we'll see where we're at going forward.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Will it be all right?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
We'll see where it's at going forward.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Are you interested?
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Everybody's all the.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Decision always, it's never the doctors are involved in every part.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
Are you kind of more interested in what he could
be on Sunday as the post of what he showed
you guys this week?
Speaker 2 (01:09):
I think we're going to talk about it as we
go and figure out what we got to do to
try to win the game. I mean, that's really what
we're going to try to do. You know, what's our
best opportunity to win the football game on Sunday? Where
does everybody stand, including number eight Lamar and anybody else?
And and that's just how it goes, and you do
your best and and really you could, I'm sure when
(01:30):
we do talk about it at length, you know, but
it's not really a public conversation. And we're going to
try to put our best team out there and play
our best practice.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Does he is he moving and looking like tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Like I said, he practiced today fully and that's what
he did.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
You guys appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
He's smart when you ask the question too, is kind
of appreciated that. What do you guys like about him?
Speaker 4 (02:00):
And how long do you think we'll need to.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Wrap up this coming off? Uh, looks like he's in
good shape. It won't be this game you just got
here today, but uh, he'll be on the practice squad
and that's a good a good spot for him to
get ready to play. And it looks like looks like
he is in good shape. Short week next week, so
we'll have to see how that goes. But uh, but
We played against him a lot, have a lot of
respect for him. Really good guy too, so smart experienced players.
(02:26):
So that's a good thing.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
John, what do you mean, what do you think of
Mike Green's ascension to the NFL, And do you think
he's close to making him as an impact play is
like SEC type player?
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I do.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
I do think he's I think he's ready to make
those plays. And I'm ready for him to make those plays,
you know. I mean, he's he's practicing really well. He's
he does get better, noticeably better every single practice, you know,
and every single game. You can see it in a
little thing. So you'd break through at some point in
time and make a couple of big plays for us
and and get rolling. That's that's what we're looking for.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
John to kind of expound on that, Chuck saying, you
really asking Mike to do a lot that maybe other repeats.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
At his position don't. Do you see him dropping back?
Speaker 5 (03:07):
You know, maybe in a different context, if you guys
were healthier, he'd be in for fewer downs and more
of those downs two years hit back type pass rush downs.
Do you think in some ways it's been limited.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
By no I think that, I mean, I think that.
I think that he's a he's a complete football player,
you know. To me, he's that's that's a compliment, that's
a plus side thing. So is he going to get sacks?
Is that what you're asking me? Heck, yeah, he's gonna
get sacks. He's going to get sacks. And we're we're
a diverse defense and a multiple defense. And I think
if you look at his body type or if you
watch him play, you can see he's capable of doing
(03:38):
all kind of stuff, you know, so that just makes
him a better football player.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
John Moore is not able.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
To play, or he is not able to start h
hut of power from the Dons. Uf Tyler will be
the next stupand.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Out there is everything.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yes, we gave him an arrest day, Yeah, no practice
rest day, so he's not injury report roster.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
Mechanic standpoint of the yad the great made.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, I'm not gonna make that announcement because I was
just instructed not to. But you know, we saw we
cut Zaire. Hopefully we'll get him back on the practice
squad or in some form of fashion. So so happy
with the way Zaire played for us, his development over
the last year, here has been phenomenal. Uh, really proud
of him, appreciative of him, and uh and we'll see
(04:31):
where that goes as well. Great thanks.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Quarterback Lamar Jackson's status is in doubt, as head coach
John Harbor indicated during his press conference and after practice today,
we heard from quarterback Tyler Huntley, who talked about the
potential of him stepping into the starting lineup.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
Everybody, everybody, So.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
That's how how do you feel out there or you know,
getting this right out there?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
How do you feel this shooting?
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Man?
Speaker 7 (05:05):
It felt pretty good, you know, like every week, you know,
just being able to play ball. You know, that's the
greatest feeling, you know, is being able to just work
on your craft and get better.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Tyler, you can.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Obviously know a lot of these guys who are in
the gas right now on the offense. How did it
feel to get back and a little over and some
of other games with some of those familiar places.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
Man, it w like I said, it was great to
just be out there and uh it be able to
get a chance to just play a little bit and
you know, just being able to just you know, run
around out there a little bit, cause drop you about.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
You play it.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
You know a lot of football here.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
How much is that experience helped you? If you all
call the barn try this weekend.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
You know, just just like going down to the Dolphins. Uh,
it's just being being able to just play football.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
You know.
Speaker 7 (05:52):
That's that's that's the that's the greatest opportunity that I
I just uh praise about because you know, sometimes you
know it it's a lot of guys out there that
I wanna be just playing and I'm I'm able to
be able to play, and it just feel good to
just be out there.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
You know with Laura feel how does he move when.
Speaker 7 (06:13):
Now he l he look good? You know he just
you know, he getting back into his swing of things
and uh he man, he look good.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
How how has it been do you? I do you
talking one rule of trying where he has to any like?
Speaker 5 (06:26):
Uh you how how was he.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Man has been coupled with him?
Speaker 5 (06:29):
When?
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (06:29):
Like when when when he not able to play? He
he let you know like I'm nah, man, I can't go,
you know, but uh when.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
You when he ready to go, he'd be ready to
go if you were preparing to start some day.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
N Uh, I always prepare to start, you know, what
I mean, like cheator, Like every week, you know, I'm
studying and drawing out the plays, watching film and everything
I need to do, you know, to be prepared with
a at like I do every week.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
How did you have any uh kind of memories of
going back to Chicago in twenty twenty one that kind
of pop into.
Speaker 7 (06:59):
Your Yeah, it was a little cold, like this little wendy.
It was a little wendy, you know, but it was it.
It was a good game, you know, I think game
winning drive down there. Yeah, it was pretty good.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Does that it all help you, you know, as prepared
mentally if if you are.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
Starting, uh, it's another team, you know, another team, just
like everybody on the uh schedule, you know, just treating
it as a one week super Bowl, you know, just
just just we gotta be prepared to get a win.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
I'm sure the gas offense a lot of guys on
offense are frustrated. How'd you seen that transition into what
you guys have done to prepare practice this week?
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (07:42):
Just just like uh, being able to go and not
buy and get it some time to relax and re
recouit and just being able to just you know, come
back out here get our minds right and then you know,
just trying to do the things that we need to
do to get better. You know. Uh, I think everybody
got a good foot on it this week. Everybody was
ready to practice and we got to it.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Are you worry about the one and five start having
sort of a hangover type defect?
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Nah, not at all.
Speaker 7 (08:08):
I think thinking back to when the Bengals went to
the Super Bowl, I think they had a pretty bad
record starting off that year. I can't remember their record,
but I remember them going to the Super Bowl that
one year and they had they didn't have a good
record starting off, But it's about how you finish.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Do you feel like the belief is still there from
everybody in the room that you guys can do everything.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
You've been you want to do.
Speaker 7 (08:32):
Yes, So we just got to win the games that
we need to win and we'll be right by where
we need to be.
Speaker 8 (08:38):
Football fans know that traditions matter. They're what inspire us
to make our massa in Tostedo's the traditional way, starting
with whole corn kernels, no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives,
all to give you that perfect crunch. Discover your next
tradition this football season, head to the store, grab your
Tostedos team bag and scan the code for a chance
to score an epic experience with the Baltimore Ravens. Tostitos
tradition matters.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
In the locker room. Today, we also heard from newly
acquired outside linebacker Carl Lawson. The veteran past rusher has
spent time in the AFC and North also played for
the Cincinnati Bengals in his career. He talked about joining
the Ravens practice squad of why he feels like Baltimore
is a good fit for.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Him and are very heavy.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
You know, do you feel like you approach this opportunity
with a different mindset than you might have been in
years past.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
No, I mean every day, I've had an appreciation for life.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Every day.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
I've had appreciation for the ball every day. I think
we all have appreciation for just being able to.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Go out and smile and help one another.
Speaker 6 (09:35):
So I don't think it's been that that heavy, because
you know, the fact that I even get those things
are a blessing, So very thankful.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Being a fan of KYLEVINOI he also signed with this team,
saw a career resursion exactly you followed.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Anything that inspires you.
Speaker 6 (09:52):
Absolutely, I've seen it from a distance, and it's it's
really good to see because I think, I think with
every opportunity you get each single year, I think you
should I always wanna get better, whether or not you're
a older player vet young guy. So yeah, I I've
seen that from Afar and just I think I told
him today. So when I was like, yeah, I'm man,
hey I I.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Love to see it.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
You know.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
I think at like thirty two, it get going out
there and having career years. It's like that's something that like,
you know, if any you know, there's a lot of
negative talk in the world, and so like you might
you know, get down to yourself because that stuff. And
then you be like, hey, I I don't see an
example of that. So it's it's great to have a
guy like that in the locker room.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
I didn't work with Chuck Smith before when he was
an individual coach.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
Yeah, no, I I worked with Chuck for like, uh
like s like eight nine years now, even before he
was so in Atlanta, cause we were all from Atlanta,
so he was calling me by my nickname.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (10:39):
So when I got him on the phone, he was like,
woo do you I was like, man, no, y I
like but so yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
So that's fam So it's it was good to see
him and I just.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Want to practice obviously, But wh what was it like,
what was that experience like for you? And just how
did it feel to kind of did back out there.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Doing this too?
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (10:55):
It always feels great just to be out there and
be able to play football and be around a uh
a good group of guys wanna work. So yeah, this
is a positive experience.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
What would your kind of impression of the defense and
just obviously still learning.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
It, but I I I think my impression of defense
is like, uh, I haven't been in a three four
in a while. I've been a a attacking for three
so kind of just getting up, picking up with terminology
and stuff like that, Just trying to be a sponge
as much as possible, learning from anybody who's.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Wanted to teach me and learn. So yeah, that's been
a positive experience. Can I hope could be a three
down uh player or or pass quecial whatever. I can
do everything at a high high level.
Speaker 6 (11:34):
My thing is just always just being making sure I'm
healthy and consistent with that part of it. But as
far as being a three down player, I'm I'm very
very capable of do that at a high level. But
whatever the team asking me, that's what I'm gonna try
to go out and do at a high level and
just do my best every single day.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Coming off this season where where you had five SATs
from surprised that that it took this long to latch
onto a team and does it you know anyway?
Speaker 6 (11:57):
I mean, I'm I was gonna have a chip on
my shoulder, but there was just opportunit I didn't think
were the best fit for me. And it's like, you know, sometime,
I've always been in a rush for certain things. So yeah,
so it just it wasn't necessarily didn't know how long
the process was gonna take.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
I just knew it was gonna happen, and I know,
you know, I was just gonna take time.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
Just sharpening my axe instead of sitting there worry about
what if and whatnot. It's like, okay, well, you know,
not here today, work work tomorrow, work the next day,
and enjoy life and just be on my fiancee and family.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
So yeah, what what lots of places for you? Uh?
Speaker 6 (12:28):
I I personally think it's just more so the opportunity
to play the defense.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (12:34):
And I also think it's just it's AFC North football
like that. I've I I kind of didn't necessarily know
if it was gonna happen here for years, but it's
there's always been very much hints coming off the Achilles
per first game I played was the Ravens leaving Cincinnati
to Ravens, and it's always kind of been like one
of those things. It's like, you know, like all O
their hints there and but you just never know. But yeah,
(12:54):
but I I grew up watching Sugs in Denmerville. So yeah,
just to get the opportunity to to following footsteps of
the guys that I've looked up to is very much blessing.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
You're listening to the Ravens Press Pass podcast again. The
game on Sunday is coming up one o'clock against Chicago Bears.
This is a big game for the Ravens who are
sitting at one to five and looking to get their
season to turn it around. Thank you so much for listening.
We will be back with you again on Sunday after
that game against Chicago
