Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's twenty eight degrees in Jacksonville, Florida. It's fifteen in Oldham, England,
fourteen in Galway in Ireland. This is Teal Talk. I'm
Jay Lawrence as far as I know, still no relation.
He's Key Ram Surin and this is Teal Talk, the
official podcast for the UK and Ireland for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Key, how are you? Are you all right?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
I'm fine whatever, move on? No, how are you mate?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
I was like, I'm missing something. No, I'm fine, I'm
actually it's going to be this is a bumper episode.
I thought that for the last couple weeks would be
considered bumper episodes because obviously, you know, we've been in
Tottenham Hotspur and then we've been at Wembley Stadium as well.
But this is a bumper episode because we are joined
from Duval County by Jaquins wide receiver Parker Washington, who's
(00:48):
suddenly a very important member of the Jancuars squad. Actually,
and as you know, at Wembley Stadium had a ridiculously
memorable moment, if not the moment of the entire maybe
even the moment of the entire London Games. Attentionally, yeah, yeah,
not just him. Lewis Rezamit, the former Welsh rugby international,
also joins us to talk about his progress with the Jaguars.
(01:11):
Since you know, switching sports, It's been massive news here
in the UK, hasn't it. Yeah, Lewis Roe samit is
it a big rugby star, was a big rugby star
taking that leap to American football. We have our fan
of the week with the big question and looking ahead
to the trip to Philadelphia as well this weekend. We
do need to talk about the game at the weekend,
(01:31):
of course that has just passed, the Green Bay Packers
game Jaggs lose thirty twenty seven. I think that this
is a really weird game to look at, and if
it was earlier in the season, I would be saying
there's a lot of positives to take from this adversity.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Coming out of it looking like.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
It was going to be a you know, with all
these you know, receivers that go down, We'll get onto
that in a second. Looks like it's going to be
bad victory getting back into it. But then you know,
almost almost a case of this in this game. Who
had the ball art However, there's also the other side
of me that says it is all about It's literally
just about wins and losses right now.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Key, Yeah, it's about finishing and at the moment, they're
not finishing, and you know that is tough. But like
you say, dude, do you know what, I've got to
a point in this season where I think losses are tough.
Of course, losses are tough, but I'm not gonna think
about that. I'm going to look at the fact that
this team is doing some really good stuff. I think
(02:27):
there's one big problem that I'm very happy to talk about.
But overall, I saw a lot of positive stuff on
Sunday that I didn't necessarily see against the Bears, and
I didn't necessarily see against the Bills. This loss was
not the same as those other losses because there was
a lot more positive stuff. If you can keep that
positive stuff coming and then fix the other negative stuff
(02:50):
that's happening, there's a lot more to look forward to.
It wasn't as bad as the Bills and the Bears,
and that's what I'm taking from it.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Mate.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, yeah, I'm I mentioned the injuries there to the
receivers and Arson. We'll get onto it with Parker Washington
in a little bit. Brian Thomas Junior went out with
a rib issue, Gabe Davis shoulder issue. Christian Kirk is
now out for the season with a I think it's
a broken I believe, you know, just from from the
(03:19):
in the receiving core, we're going to have to see
so many Jags players step up.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Which they did though, Jay, they did that was incredible.
I'm like, I want to talk about head coach Doug
Peterson's comments in a second, right, but that that drive
where Trevor took him however many yards it was eighty
seven yards or whatever, with without his main receivers in
(03:46):
the game. Everyone stepping up, O line stepping up, receiver
stepping up, Trevor stepping up. It can be done. The
talent is there, the attitude is there. For me, what's
been lacking is and I'm not a professional sports psychologist,
as you know, Jay, but what it's been lacking is
(04:07):
positive attitude clicking at all times in all three phases.
Special teams have been performing really well at times this season.
The defense has performed really well and they've had a
positive attitude at times. The offense has performed well and
had a positive attitude all three phases haven't clicked at
the same time, and adversity has been the thing for
(04:28):
me when the defense has been playing well, it's only
taken a small thing and it crumbles. I think, if
you can address that and fix that and stop. Like
I watch a lot of snooker, right and they call
it peacocking when a snooker player walks around the table
with their chest out and they're owning the table. Sometimes
you see that with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but you don't see.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
More peacocking peck. You want to see Tylor Lawrence peacock.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
I want to more pea cocking mate. Whether they're playing
peacocking all over the field, peacocking everywhere everywhere, I think
it makes a massive difference. Like the psychological and emotional
element of the game is for me when I watch
this team, that's where it's falling down, and I think,
if they can address that, which they have at times
they've addressed it. It's certain times of the offense at
certain times of the defense. If all three phases get that,
(05:16):
I think the talent's there, man, the talent's there.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Think, in a weird way, this is a I don't
know if devastating is the right word. But it would
almost be easy in a way if they if it
was just a really bad performance like in all three phases,
as you say, for the entire game. But because it wasn't,
because they battled twice really to get back into the game.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Ten down twice in the game, I think, well, yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
And to get back into it, you know, it's I mean,
it kind of feels like not the world's against you
a little bit, but it's just like you just can't
doesn't seem to quite get there.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
I get that, and I get that a lot of
fans are frustrated and all of that, but I personally
think watching the performance against the Bears, or watching the
performance against the Bills where nothing happened, that for me
is worse this week. I can take that.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Man.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, it's slightly frustrating. They didn't finish that came down
to the wire, they could have won it, but there
was stuff there to take from it that for me
is more uplifting than just getting trounced by the Bears.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I can I say as well, And to be honest,
I'm not I'm not sick of it, but like I
do feel I heard the phrase National tight End Day
an awful lot on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
It was just like it was always. Everyone was going
on about it anyway. But I do have to mention.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
You're watching red Zone, because if you're watching red Zone,
it was literally every game we'd mention.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
But I do have to mention, well, actually two Titans
actually for the Jankue is Brent and Strange is someone
that I do think has stepped up and I have
been enjoying watching him play blocking as well and Ingram.
He's returned, and yes, there wasn't a win today. We
did get a very good touchdown though, that.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Trip or coverage catch that was But I mean all,
let's Evan all the way this week and in the
Wembley game as well. He's been I'm so glad he's
back and come back strong as well, because boy do
we need him right now.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Speaking of past catchers, let's head over to Duval County,
shall we, where I caught up with Jacksonville Jaguary's wide
receiver Parker Washington. Parker Washington, thank you so much for
joining till Talk. How's it going, Hey, go, I'm good.
I got to talk.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
About the loss to the Packers. Going to touch on that.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
This one more than most seemed like it was a
tough battle that you might you might have come out
of it thinking we usually could have done that.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
Definitely, definitely, it's any given Sunday in the NFL. We
definitely wanted to get that win. It was definitely an
opportunity for us top loss, but we gotta keep going.
Like I said, we can't get it back, but we
definitely want it back.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
From like a receiving call perspective as well, I mean,
it was tough, wasn't it. Gabe Davis goes out Brian
Thomas Junior having an MRI, Christian kirkout for the season
with a broken collar bone. Have you had a chance
to speak to any of those guys.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
I haven't got a chance to talk to Kirk yet,
but definitely saw Gabe and BT so got a chance
to just catch up with those guys, see how they
were doing. Looking good. You know, it's tough being in
an NFL because you don't know when your number may
be called or when someone may go down. But that's
(08:33):
just why you have to continue to prepare and practice
like a starter and be ready. Because we were down
to two receivers in the fourth quarter. And that's tough.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, I mean that is tough, isn't it. I mean
from your perspective as well, you know, going into you know,
when you've got these players out injured, next man up
scenario for you, you know, I mean, it's it's even
more potential targets for you, isn't it.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
Oh definitely, that's why you continue to prepare so your
teammates trust you, your coaches trust you to be able
to run those routes that you may have not gotten
in practice. So it was a big time to be
able to make a couple of plays. But like I said,
we still wanted to get that win at the end.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Of the day. Look, obviously we got to talk. We've
got to talk London.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
I mean, you can tell from my accent, I'm still
I'm still at Wembley Stadium in my mind, man, I'm
still at Wembley Stadium. But actually, you know what, let's
talk Bears game first, because you weren't just playing Chicago.
You were playing you were playing your sister, weren't you,
Ashton Washington. She works for the Chicago Bears, doesn't she
The player personnel coordinator I believe for the Bears, Oh
(09:38):
no doubt. Yeah, tell me what it was like, Tell
me what you were like texting each other like before
and after the game.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
And you know, I'm real close with my sister. We
talk a lot, you know, before every game, but you know,
to like we definitely want to win, but I want
you to do your thing. So she always rooted me,
all supported me. Real thankful and grateful to have her
as my sister. She does a good job. She works
(10:03):
hard without an exciting moment to be able to play
against her and have that experience.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Did you speak much after it? Did she did she
give you any like, you know, rub it in a
little bit or anything.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
That nothing crazy? He was a big sister at that
point when to make sure it's all good.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Okay, that's nice, man, that is nice. And then obviously
the next game was that Wembley game. I mean, are
you still on a high from that huge ninety seven
yard punt return touchdown?
Speaker 5 (10:33):
I mean, just I feel like the confidence my confidence
went up just as a returner and still have a
lot of learning to do, but you know, that was
a great experience. I'll never forget that moment, and you know,
I just want to continue to chase the moment like that,
and yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Yeah, one.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
I mean, talk to me about that celebration as well,
because you know, I'm there in the stands.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
I'm watching it.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
You know, I'm hyped that you're about to score a
touchdown and then I'm almost like cracking up watching that
celebration as well.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
What was it just in the moment.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
It was definitely in the moment I thought about doing
something like that, but it's like you have to have
the perfect scenarios and.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Room to be.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
Able to do it. So I was It's just it's
just instinct at that point when it was just like, oh,
this is this the perfect time, And when I was
able to do it, I was like, Okay, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
I heard you kind of predicted it as well, like
in the days before you were saying, you know what
I got to feel and I'm going to get this,
you know, this touchdown, this punt return touchdown.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Definitely, just talking with my teammates and coaches, I was
just like, I feel like just my only like dream,
like my goal is just just a score of returning touchdown. Really,
it's just like a punt return touchdown and for that
to happening it was just an amazing moment. And it
just goes to say that and just continue to work team,
(11:59):
to learn and grow and stay ready for the opportunity
when it presents itself.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
I'm presuming you've heard about this already, but it's the
record for the longest touchdown in London history as well
as the longest punt return touchdown in JAG's history. I mean,
that's that's gonna be an incredible feeling, man.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
Amazing And just like I said, I just asked for
a punt return touchdown. Let's have any records too, So
just seeing that, I'm just humble, humble and just grateful
for that opportunity, special moment.
Speaker 6 (12:32):
Won't forget it.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
But like I said, I want to. I want to
get another moment like that and maybe get another punt
return touchdown and just make plays for our team.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Now, talk to me about what you felt it was
like then playing you know, playing in London over the
last couple of weeks. But did you will you you know,
please with the reaction from the Jags fans throughout that time.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
Oh, it's great, It's wonderful. I enjoy my this is
my second year going. I enjoyed it and it's a
great experience. Nothing like it. Like I said, I love
going to Wimbley especially, that's my favorite. It was just fun.
And then being able to make a play this year
as well, it's just special to me. And they're having
(13:18):
my family there as well. That was a big time.
So it's just a special experience that the only it
is like living. That is just amazing and I just
want to I'm excited to go back as long as
I'm here with the Jack.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I mean, I like, you know, that's such a big moment,
and I know I keep going on about it, but
it was such a big moment in that game, and
for so many people, you know, in this country who
maybe are just getting into the sport, that's the moment
that they're going to remember that, that's the moment that
they became fans of the NFL, that they became Jacks fans.
(13:52):
So I know I keep going on about it, but
there's a reason, man, because these are the moments which
sticking people's heads in a country that obviously where soccer
is king, you know, so they get into the sport
and it's moments like that to do it.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
So I think that's kind of cool.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
You know, so while you're in London park, because just
tell me, you know what you got up to you
I mean, presuming you got to see the city a.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
Bit, definitely, and then before that, I mean I was
trying to work on my golf game as well. Nice
I had to see times throughout the time I was there.
And then on the flip side, I was with my mom.
My family got a chance to experience London and it
was amazing. Shopped a little bit, had some great food
(14:35):
and I enjoyed it. I mean, they love it. My family,
they make it like a family trip each year. Well
this is their second time and they love it and
they want to move there.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
You know what I mean. I said this.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
I've had conversations with you know, a bunch of your
teammates over the last couple of weeks, and you know,
I always say, I don't know why this is an
NFL podcast, but we always seem to talk about food.
But I need to ask you what your favorite did
you try, like particular British food when you're over here,
Not like.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
I don't see it. This is where it's gonna be
tough because I don't know exactly what I was having
but I just know it was good.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
It was good.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
And then if if I said my mom was on
here with me, she would be able to tell you exactly.
But I usually just follow with my mom whatever she tries.
We pretty much eat the same food. So so whatever
she orders for us.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
You just go with it.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
I go with it.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
You just go with that.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Just one more question, because we're gonna look ahead to
the Eagles next. You know, we've spoken about the injuries,
uh to you know, the receiving calls.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
What do the Jags need to do to get that
win in Philly?
Speaker 5 (15:45):
We just had to put put together another good week.
We had a pretty good We had it. Honestly, we
had a great week going into the Packers. You know,
we fell short, but I feel like we're not losing
our confidence through this a loss that we just had
and and we leave. I feel like we came together
well in London as well, and like I said, we
(16:05):
just got to keep building on that and keep believing
in each other to go out there and execute. And
you know, it was another tough game and we're going away,
but I feel like we're ready for it, and like
I said, we just gotta not hurt ourselves in the game,
have fun, and I feel like we'll get the side
that we want to get on Washington.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
There the man of the moment, I suppose for the
Jacksonville Jaguars, at least here in the UK and Island.
And I do kind of you know, I do stand
by my point there that he first of all, very
nice man. Second of all, that punt return touchdown that
will be etched into the brains of so many people,
so many new NFL fans here in the UK and Island.
I honestly do think that that's going to be in
(16:45):
five years, ten years time, people are going to look
back and be like, yeah, I support the Jaguars because
I saw this key.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
It was the second greatest moment of that Wembley game. Yeah,
it was really, really great.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
It was the first greatest moment.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
I don't know if you knew there was a guy
at the beginning that did the duval. It was just
it was so moving and emotion and brought a tear
to wherever it would bring a tea.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Do you know what, Let's see if I can let's
get this on the podcast. I'll send I'll send the
audio over to our producer and hopefully I can put
a video on there and we can we can get
it on and we can listen to it. And also
I want to point out as well that I didn't
bring this up this week.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
It was Key. It was Key that brought it up
this week.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
You can pay me that ten later.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Mate.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Amazing moment though, I mean, we spoke about it last week,
so I can't keep going on about it, but you know,
amazing moment.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
I did love it.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
And I did get someone from from school messaging me
that I've not seen him fifteen years, who was at
the game anyway.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
It's so fun it Yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
It was a nice moment. We've spoken to a Parker Washington.
But let's move on to someone who was I suppose
in demand actually when he when the Jaggers came over
here to the UK and Ireland. A Welsh rugby star
played in the World Cup, played for the line as well,
but gave it all up to chase his American football dream.
Let's hear my conversation with Jaggs receiver Lewis free Zammit.
(18:10):
Let's welcome Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Lewis freet Zamit to
the podcast. Let's just actually really quickly start. Let's look
back like two years ago. How weird is that sentence?
Jacksonville Janger's wide receiver Lewis Free Sammon.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
I mean, never in a million years I think I'd
be saying that. But now we're here, you know, I'm
rolling with it, and I'm absolutely buzzing to be here.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Was this like the plan for like a long time?
Speaker 1 (18:34):
And was it like you know, when you're a kid,
I know your dad he was massively into American football.
Was it just always in the back of mind you
wanted to be I was always in the back of
my mind, you know, I try and watch as many
games as possible and all that kind of stuff over here.
And I knew that, you know, the sport I was
best at over here was rugby. You know, there wasn't
(18:55):
back when you know, I started playing rugby and the
junior I was on, there wasn't really too much unity
to play American football. You know, now there is, which
is amazing for everyone that can do that. But you know,
I thought the time in this year too, you know,
kind of kick on and try and make this dream
of reality was the perfect time. And since then I mean,
(19:17):
to be fair, I think the weirdest thing I think
I've seen over the last week, to be fair, is
you meeting Prince William. I mean you had you had that.
You met NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. That's cool, but like
it's a bit weird in it, Like Prince William throwing
an American football. With Prince William, you have to look around
and be like what.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
I mean, it was pretty cool. I've met him a
couple of times after a few rugby games, so I
know he's a massive rugby fan and he's a big
Welsh fan. So after a few games, after one of
the Rugby World Cup games last year, he turned up
to a changing room and congratulated us and stuff like that.
So I kind of met him a couple of times
before that. But yeah, it was crazy to see him
(19:54):
trying to throw an American football and stuff.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
He was good. I mean he looked I had a
look like through it.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
It looked to me like a like a wily veteran quarterback,
like just waiting for that one last run.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Yeah, make it, he said. He said to me that
he played water pol or something when he was younger,
So he said the spiral was was pretty natural to it.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
So I don't know how that that logice.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
That he could throw a ball, but yeah, he had
a pretty good armor.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Did you teach him? I didn't teach him TV Phoebe talking, Yeah,
I mean said a couple of things and then he
just did the first time and it was like, Wow,
he's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Credit to him.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Credit to him, and talk to me about what it's
like being in a in that wide receiver room at
the moment. Then you've got You've got Christian Kirk, You've
got Gabe Davis, you know, Brian Thomas, jen obviously coming
in for the first time this year.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
How is it for you and how.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Is it you know, just being around all these people
that have obviously been you know, playing the sport a
lot longer than you have.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
I mean it's great for me because I get to,
you know, lean on their shoulders and ask questions. Just
watch them day in day out, and you know how
they how they you know, approach the game, you know
how they train, how they run routes, how just there's
so much I can learn from them.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Is it like, is it completely different to what you
were used to? Is anything that like shocked you going
into your first practice.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
I mean, yeah, anything.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
I've never really played wide receivers, so pretty much everything.
But you know, those players are unbelievable. And you know,
Brion Thomas Jr. Is obviously just starting his career and
he's got three touchdowns of Idea in the NFL, so
that's that's pretty crazy. But being able to, you know,
see those boys train day and day out and just
be able to pick a bit of detail from all
(21:39):
of their all of their games, it's just, you know,
it's just helps me learn so much quicker.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Well, yeah, I mean I'll pick up on actually because
you are not only six six weeks into your Jaguars
career or six weeks into your career as.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
A wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
So I mean the goal few I imagine, is to
learn everything as soon as possible. If you look back
to like week one, Yeah, can you see that jump
for you personally? Like how much you've learned and how
much you can see that on the on the field.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
Definitely, even like releases off the line and just route running.
There's so much difference you can see from week one
to week six. But I just kind of keep I
just got to keep going and keep learning every day
and and keep getting better. And that's the main thing.
If I keep getting better every day, then you know
I'll be able to you know, progress nicely. And you know,
(22:28):
the more I can pick the brains and my teammates
and coaches, then the better I'm going to get.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Obviously, the Jacksonville Jague is over in the UK for
a couple of weeks. Were you excited to come back
or were you like, I've literally just left.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Why I'm literally just left. I'm moving to the US.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
I mean I was excited to come back to be
able to see family and friends.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
I mean the weather.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
There's not great over here, but the past couple of
days is actually I think I might.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
Have brought the weather with me.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I know it was raining when
I was speaking to my family that were here the
week before we flew out, but it's quite a nice data.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
So what have you been up to them?
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Like, have you i mean obviously got practice, You've got
everything Jaggers related.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Have you been able to do anything, you know, you know,
anything fun here?
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Not that this isn't fun, but you know, yeah, yeah,
we've gone shopping into into central London all the boys
that have been doing that. We've we've had lunch there,
you know, they've kind of gone on the tour and
just explored the city. And because some of these boys
have you know, never been outside the US, so it's
great to it's great for them to be able to
come over here and you know, see what the culture's like,
(23:38):
see what the food's like, the shopping and I know
the boys love shopping, so you.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Had to tell them, no, no, Wales is is not
We're not in Wales right now.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
I think they know that now. I think they know that. Yes,
it's about two and a half hours.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
We spoke to Cam Little on the podcast a few
weeks ago, and he was so excited to come out here.
Obviously he's a big You probably bonded I imagine over
man so like. And he said that you've been telling
him places to go and to go get like a
good like fish and chip like supper as it were
calling the chipper on podcast. That was my reaction as well.
(24:19):
That was exactly my reaction. What did have you been
able to like go and you know, go to the football. Well,
have you been able to experience some moments with him?
Speaker 3 (24:26):
I think some of the boys are going to I
think that. I think Fulham are playing Villa this weekend,
so some of the boys are going to go to
that game. They came some of the boys also came
out here last year and I think they went to
like an Aston Villa training session or something like that.
So some of them all be able to go to
their first Premier League match this weekend and they're really
excited about that.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Whereas you're just old hand of this.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
Yeah, I mean big deal.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
I've been to about a hundred manunit games, so yeah,
I mean I wish I could. I could go to
another one, but I don't think I only be able
to make it this weekend unfortunately.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
I also just want to touch quickly upon.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
I spoke to NFL UK general manager Henry Hodson over
the last couple of weeks and we're talking about, you know,
the expansion of the international game, not just in the
UK but around the world. And one thing that he
said he would personally laugh, not that it's imminent, is
for there to be more NFL games around the country.
I mean, like, from from your perspective, what would it
mean to you if there was an NFL game in
(25:22):
Wales at one point.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Yeah, I mean that would be unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Having one in the Principali Stadium where you know I
kind of grew up around the corner and played there
a few times. That would that would mean a lot.
I think. You know, it's great to have games here
in London. You know, it's it's a big attraction. It's
a big place for attraction and you know everyone can
kind of come to the city and watch games. But
I mean, why not have one in in Wales and
(25:47):
have one in Ireland and you know, kind of just
expand it a little bit more. It just allows the
fans in the UK, you know, wherever they live. You know,
there's a lot of Irish fans. I know that, so
being able to have a game over there would be
would be great. But yeah, as you said, I mean
it would be great to be able to you know,
expand the games, you know, outside of London.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Okay, one last question. We uh for.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
An NFL podcast, we speak a lot about food and
I don't really know why. I think it's because we
speak to you know, we speak to lots of Jaguars
players and we speak to about like, you know, what
food would they like to you know, bring over to
the UK that you're going to miss and a lot
of it's like, I mean, we've had chicken and waffles,
We've had.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Like ranch and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Has there been anything that you are food wise you
are in love with with the US that you'd like
to introduce to the UK.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Or that you miss from the UK.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Yeah, I definitely say I've missed Nando's from the UK.
I mean, I know, check Fla. I'm pretty sure it
is open. There's a there's one opening over in the
UK here, so that would be nice. I mean, I
like Chick fil A, but Nando's is daffy the one
that I need to have. In Florida, that's fine.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
I think there's a couple.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
There's one in like Chicago, There's there's a couple around America,
but I think there's only like four. There's a couple
in Atlanta, I think. But there needs to be way
more Nando's in the US because that is my favorite
restaurant by far.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
If you're not sponsored by Nando's, it's going to be
Lewis Riezamit who.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
I think it's fair to say had a heck of
a couple of weeks been in the UK key. Really
nice bloke, actually really enjoyed having a conversation with him,
with his brother as well, who lives with them out
in Florida, And it's fair to say they're a loving
life in Jacksonville. And I also I know that he
mentioned their key that he'd casually, you know, met the
(27:33):
future King of England more than once because of his
rugby connection as well. But just the idea of like
being involved teaching teaching, sorry, teaching friends William how to
throw a ball, I mean that must have been just
I can't even think about what that would be like.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
And apparently he's seventy fifth in line to the throne
now yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Because of that, Because of that, did he get given
a Jankuars jersey as well?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Prince William? Did he give him a Yankuars jurseys?
Speaker 3 (28:04):
So we can now claim Prince William as one of
our own, which I think he'd be proud of too.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Every Sunday Prince William Buckingham Palace sitting down.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
The other day.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Yeah, I'm sure he did. I'm sure he did. Really
nice guy though. Wish him the best of luck because
and I think that's fair to say on behalf of
everybody from the UK in Ireland, especially Wales as well,
that it is never going to be an easy transition
to move from one sport to the next. Key So
that means that even if he is such a talent
as he is, it means that he's essentially got the
(28:41):
whole country behind him, which is kind of incredible when
you think about it.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
I mean, getting this far alone absolutely incredible and we're
all rooting for the next step.
Speaker 6 (28:49):
Man.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Okay, let's move on to the Duval dispatches. The NFL
is launching his International Fan of the Year competition this week,
So if you think that you qualify, make sure you
get yourself onto NFL dot com to register and you know,
let them know what makes you that well, I don't
know about you, to be honest, I don't know about
you too, honest NFL dot com to register and let
(29:12):
them know, you know what makes you the best international
Jags fan.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
This is a big deal as well.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
I want to be clear, this is a big deal,
and it's such a you know, massive like pat on
the back, it's such a massive like you know, I
think you can get like people can get and like
you know, stitched onto their jersey as well, saying that
they're like international fan of the Year.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
So this is a really cool thing to do.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
So if you think you register, if you think you
you know, qualify, if you consider yourself up there, head
on over to NFL dot com. Key, we have a
TV show, don't we.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
We do have a TV show hosted by Reese Parkinson
and what was on it this week? This week all
the usual stuff. So we're gonna have highlights of the
Packers game, analysis from JP and Reese, Tony Baseli looking
forward to the Eagles game, but highlight of the episode
for me, and honestly, tune in for this. Tank Bigsby
(30:04):
miked up at Wembley. He had like one hundred and
seventy yard ground game. Him talking about and reacting to
that is absolutely fantastic. Well worth tuning in for a loan.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
And when and when when? When and when?
Speaker 3 (30:17):
We are on this Wednesday nine pm Sky Sports NFL
and then repeated throughout the week, and then after that
all of the bits will be up on the Jaguars
UK YouTube channel.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Okay, let's move on to the big question.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Okay, Every week on to Talk we get a fan
of the Jacksonville Jaguars on from the UK and Ireland
to give us other big question this time around. Hello,
Christoph Capello, Christoph, what is your big question?
Speaker 6 (30:43):
Hello?
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Why does this team constantly kick us in the nuts
every single week?
Speaker 3 (30:50):
I'm sorry I had to answer that. I had to
answer that I've been a fan since twenty thirteen. Did
I get it? I get it. Yeah, it feels it
feels like that. I think it's because they know how
hardy we are and they know that we like an adventure.
That's what I'm going to say.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
It's the beauty of the NFO. And actually, and do
you know what it's It's the beauty of.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
A team. Wouldn't it be boring? Let's be honest.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
I mean, it'd be great if it was a super
Bowl every year, But wouldn't it be boring if it
was you know, thirty to ah in every single week.
You need a little bit of drama in your life,
Chris stuff, and this is supplying the drama.
Speaker 7 (31:28):
Well, the drama is you know, the w at the end,
not the big for l we always Yeah, if you're
like myself who's been a fan since the beginning, you know,
the long lolls of heartbreak and depression.
Speaker 6 (31:42):
They're hard to get over, you know. It's just like, oh,
come on, can we be competitive?
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Oh we used to beg for competitive now and now
it's just like, please just win, just win.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
You know, like the New England Patriots, they obviously were
weren't on a super Bowl streak or a couple of
from super Bowl streaks, I suppose, But do you genuinely
believe that you know, their fifth super Bowl meant as
much as the first. You know that first super Bowl
will always be the special one.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
So you've got to go through as much as I'm
trying to, like.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Look like, I don't know Jay, but I'd like to
find out.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
All right, I think that's fair enough. That's a fair
enough response there. I think Christalph tell us about how
you became a Jags fan.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Well, I used to live in the States when I
was a little kid or whatever, and I moved up
to Jacksonville and I had just started getting into American
football and the kids in the neighborhood. Obviously, you move
into a neighborhood and the local kids all show up
and they're like, you know, want to know about you
and stuff like that, and they were like, are you
into football, and I was like yeah, and they're like,
(32:46):
do you have a team yet? And I was like, no,
not really, and they're like, well, our city, Jacksonville, has
just gotten a new team and we start up in
like a year or two. And I was like, oh wow,
And they were all wearing their Jags gear and stuff
like that already.
Speaker 6 (32:59):
So I got to be there for like the.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Whole build up of the city getting that team that
first year, and then like the first couple of years
of them playing and stuff like that, and obviously it
was just I was a fan ever since. And then
when I moved here Easter of ninety seven, you very
rarely saw anyone wearing American football gear.
Speaker 6 (33:19):
It was hard to find it on TV and stuff
like that.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
So I had to do like the whole scratch and
claw for any information about the NFL like whatsoever, like
finding it on the like on the internet. At school,
I remember there used to be an NFL magazine newspaper
that they used to do. Neil Reynolds used to write
for and Mike Carlson used to write for.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
I think it was like an actual newspaper. I used
to get that every week.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
What's like what's it been like for you then, mate,
like over the last decade or so, then to see
the Jaguars make such an effort in the UK.
Speaker 6 (33:50):
Oh it was. It was amazing last night.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
Oh yes, I think it's today actually the eleventh year
anniversary of the first ever Jags fan party before the game,
the first one that did.
Speaker 6 (34:02):
They did outside the hard Rock Cafe.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
At the bar, yeah, the bar behind the hard Rock
where we took over the entire street and stuff like
that stuff.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
I was there. I wasn't a Jags fan yet, but
so I was. I've been a fan of the NFL
since two thousand and one, two thousand and two, so
when they started playing games over here, I would go
to everything. I would go to all the games. I
would go to all the parties, everything that I could
get to. And I was at that that Jags party
that you're talking about there, that's so fun.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
I was.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
I was there.
Speaker 6 (34:32):
I was wearing a white Blaine Gabbert jersey at the time.
I spoke to J. P.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
Shadwick and John Oser and they were completely blown away,
like there's like this guy who lives in England who's
a Jaguar fan. My first NFL game in London was
the Broncos forty nine Ers game. I think it was
like two thousand and nine or twenty ten or something
like that.
Speaker 6 (34:51):
I can't remember the year it was, but my god,
that was an awful game.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Right, But now you get to see the Jaguars, you know,
multiple times, multiple times a year of the couple of years.
So I mean, it's been quite fortunate for you.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
I suppose.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
Yeah, it's been a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
You don't sound sure when you say that. It's like
you're trying to convince yourself some of the.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
Well, obviously some of the early games, you know, like
that forty nine er game and that Cowboy game, where
you know, similar feelings to now. But obviously like the
win obviously last week was nice to see that.
Speaker 6 (35:25):
The two wins in last year, I didn't get to
watch one of them.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
I was driving a monster trucktor in the Buffalo Bills games.
Speaker 6 (35:32):
It was a birthday president.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
Fortunate enough to get a ticket to the twenty twenty
one game at Tottenham because obviously that was like reduced.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
Capacity or whatever because of COVID. That was crazy hard
to get like a ticket for it.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
But obviously that was Trevor's first win as well. One
of my friends in the States was like super jealous
because he spent like a whole bunch of money to
go to Houston watch Trevor's first game as a Jaguar
and obviously they got blown out.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
And he's like, I hate you. You got to see
the win and stuff.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
So I'm going to ask you in a second about
your prediction for the next game that the Jagers played
before that I want to know about. I mean, you
mentioned before that you were in like a Blaine Gabbett,
you know, Jersey to the event and all those years ago.
Tell us about the other stuff you've got even behind
you because I can see, well, Fred Taylor, I don't
know what it is behind you?
Speaker 2 (36:17):
Is it signed? Any of this?
Speaker 6 (36:18):
All of them are signed.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
That's Fred Taylor, Mitchell and ness that I bought recently. Actually,
last did you get that signed?
Speaker 2 (36:28):
That?
Speaker 3 (36:28):
It was that last week you got that signed?
Speaker 6 (36:30):
No, it was last year.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
I got it signed, Okay, last year and signed and
framed up. That's the Selly one that he signed at
last year's party as well, that I got framed up.
Speaker 6 (36:40):
And this one here is probably the pride and joy
of the collection.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
It's a.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
Game worn inaugural season Jimmy Smith jersey and the story
behind them, and it's all signed up on the chests
and stuff like that. The story behind that was crazy
because obviously Jimmy Smith.
Speaker 6 (36:59):
Had his legal issues. This is way back, like I've
had that like ten years now.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
And some guy on Twitter posted like like an eBay
link or whatever saying, oh, this would be like really
cool to own, and it was like.
Speaker 6 (37:15):
Game Warn and Aull Girl season jersey.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
And then Jimmy Smith actually like retweeted the tweet saying,
whoever gets this, let me know. There's a tag on
the inside, and I can tell you what game it
was Warning or what games it was from, because they
apparently they didn't have a lot of spare jerseys, if
you know what I mean. But I literally had it
for like ten minutes and then I instantly packaged it
back up and I sent it to Jimmy Smith's home
(37:39):
addressed in Mississippi because I said.
Speaker 6 (37:41):
Would you sign it? And he was like of course,
So I was like, I've got it.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
He sent me his personal address on DM message on
Twitter and stuff. The cool thing was is that when
he sent it back he written a handwritten No. It
was when they did that Football Life episode where Jimmy
Smith it was Jimmy Smith and Keen of mccartter well,
and he said, like the fans helped with his rehab,
like his rehab at the time, and and he said
(38:06):
that it meant a lot that a guy who lived
in England wants a jersey of mine.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
And so he.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
Signed it and then sent it back and then obviously
I finally got it framed up and it's.
Speaker 6 (38:16):
It's all up on my Instagram page. It takes private
place in the in the center of my living.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Room as it should as it should was it was
it washed before you got it?
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Oh? Yeah, it was clean and stuff like that. I
was kind of disappointed, you know. I was hoping for
it to like have all the grass stains on it
and stuff.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
But they think of sweat from a long lounge every day.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Yeahs coming in being like what is that smell?
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Look?
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Okay, last question for you the Jankuers.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
They go to Philadelphia this weekend to face the Eagles.
Me and K are going to give our predictions in
a little bit, but we have a fand of it
every single week.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
What is your prediction a score, please.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
Unfortunately, I think it's going to be a loss, and
I think it's going to be something like twenty eight
to fourteen something like that.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
The Eagles and.
Speaker 6 (39:09):
Saquon Barkley are going to run it down our throats.
I'm not confident at all.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Well, at least we're ending with a bit of optimism.
I appreciate that. Thank you so much for joining us
today until to appreciated it. Stuff.
Speaker 6 (39:21):
Yeah, you're welcome.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
Cheers of stuff, cheers and stuff. For being so blunt
with his question.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
I mean, stuff's been around since day one, so I
see stuff all the time, all the He's what would
be referred to as a hardcore fan, so he's he's
seeing it all high as and he's actually and I
get it, man.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
He's not been there since day one. He's been there
before day one. Yeah, true, you know, as you just
told us the story, he was a Jags fan before
the Jags had even played a first game.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
So that's kind of impressive, isn't it. Key.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Let's move on to this weekend. The Jacksonville Jaguars have it.
In fact, they've got a real tough few games coming up.
To be honest with you the Philadelphia Eagles, the Minnesota
Vikings are Detroit Lions, and then the Houston Texans will
focus on obviously the next game in Philadelphia, the Eagles,
who are coming off of a win against the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
This is going to be no bones about it. This
is going to be a tough game.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
It's going to be a tough game.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
It's a tough game.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
It's going to be a tough game. I think it's
going to be super high scoring. I think unless things
change massively, I think our defense is going to struggle
with particularly for my money, with Jayalen Hurts. But I
also think if our offense is clicking, that this could
be an absolute barn burner. It could be real high scoring.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
A J.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
Brown, Devonte Smith. It's a it's a it's a decent offense,
to say the least of the Philadelphia Eagles. My concern is,
and we won't, you know, touch on it too much
because we've spoken about it before, but you know, we
don't really know as it stands what.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
The offense is. We're gonna look like this weekend literally.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Like one thing. One is out for the season. Yeah,
that much, we know. Here's the other thing. We know, Jay,
we know that next man up works well.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
It did at the end of the last game against
the Packers, that's for sure, you know, and you know
we know spoke to Parker Washington a bit about that
as well. Travis Etn coming back quite like the idea.
I mean, I always liked it from the first game
of the season, but we've seen more of Tank Bigsby now,
but Travis Etn he comes back, There's no way that
(41:28):
Tank is not being incorporated in a big way in
some way. You want to have this double headed monster
in the backfield, and you want to be able to
look at what the Lions did against Minnesota. Against against
Minnesota is actually a good example. Really, I suppose you
know what the Lions do, which is have Jamier Gibbs,
they have David Montgomery as well, and they give them
(41:50):
like a fifty to fifty split a lot of the time.
You know, I don't know if that's going to happen
with the Jaguars, but I am confident in saying that
we're going to see more of Tank Bigsby than we
did maybe in the first weeks of the season.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
As we should be. That is a double threat and
we should be using it more as simple as that.
For me, those are two talented running backs. We should
be utilizing both of them all the time.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
And this is the big the big one. Then we've
already heard from staff with his prediction, and we've got
to give ours.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
The scores are.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
I'm I've got three points, you've got two points, and
fans have got two points as well.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
Okay, so so far me and the fans is if
the Jags win, then we get a point.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
What are you saying this week?
Speaker 3 (42:36):
I'm gonna go thirty four thirty one Cam littlefield goal
to win it. But I'm also going to throw a
wrinkle in there for you, mate. Yeah, three hundred plus
combined yards on the ground between the two teams.
Speaker 1 (42:53):
I've literally thought you were going to say between Tank,
Bigsby and and Travis et And I was like, come on,
you're getting.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Ridiculous, more and more ridiculous combined between the two teams.
Three hundred plus yards on the ground. That's what I'm
going with.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
I'm really not sure about my prediction, to be honest
with you, because I feel.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
Like this is, Oh, You're going to do it, aren't you?
Speaker 1 (43:13):
You're going to go I might it's really tough to
see how the Eagles. The Eagles aren't favorites in this game.
And do you know what, I feel like, one drive,
that last drive isn't enough. Isn't enough at the moment.
Is it to be able to? You know, I do
(43:33):
really want to see a really, you know, highly high
scoring game, and I feel like it kind of is
going to have to be to be honest, And that's
what makes me slightly concerned, because it could be that
the Eagles are you know that they dominate, their offense dominate.
Let's go with a it might be it might be
(43:54):
another case of whoever has the ball last wins. We've
seen that multiple times already this season.
Speaker 3 (43:59):
I think it happened to in the Browns Game two,
whoever has the ball last.
Speaker 1 (44:03):
So it could be another one. It could be Eagles
twenty four, Jags twenty one. Okay, mane no devastating.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
I don't want it. I feel like that coming out
of my.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Mouth is slightly sick.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
Can we get a new host? Okay, hope before we go,
before we go, right, yes, one thing? One thing. Twenty
twenty two. The Jags left the UK losing to the Broncos.
Twenty twenty two, they were two and six, and it
was all of the fans saying this is the end
(44:37):
of the season. I am no by no means saying
the Jags now turn this round and make a playoff run.
I'm not. All I'm saying is there is hope, There
is positivity there because it can happen, and not only
can it happen, this team can do it. So let's
not all be down about it all the time.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Can I get that?
Speaker 1 (45:00):
I can MP three and I can just put that
in my ears every time I'm feeling a bit down
because that was that was good. You should be in
that locker.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
Room from the Gladiator exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
You make a good point, though, and it's the NFL
and you never know what can happen. So I think
that we've ended that in a nice way.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Cheers, Key, appreciate that. We'll be back next week.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
