I would, I would humbly request a view a football
Friday Monday Headlines Today College Football Edition, Championship Weekend, but
also of course ties to the college football playoff rankings.

(02:20):
Monday Headlines Today, College Football Edition what are we thinking
about the championship weekend? Who gets their feelings hurt? Who
gets left out of the playoff? Who blows their opportunity
in the conference championship games? Does Alabama continue to streak
over Kirby Smart and Georgia given as some framed it
throughout the day, you know the fact that it seems
to playoff committee gave them a bit of a mulligan

(02:43):
with jumping them past Notre Dame and thus maybe setting
the stage for Alabama to lose in the SEC title
game but still make the playoffs. Like, is that what
you believe? Do you think the Duke avenges their earlier
season loss to Virginia in the ACC title in the
AEC title game?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Rather?

Speaker 2 (02:59):
I think I heard Bone make it or make a
case this morning for the Blue Devils, and I thought
it was a really well made case where he said,
you know, Duke should be the team that plays more freely,
Like Virginia has already beaten you once. It is difficult
to beat a team twice in a season. And it
seems to me that probably all the pressure is on
Virginia given the dynamics of this game, because Virginia can
play their way into the playoff, Duke can win this

(03:20):
title game and probably doesn't make the playoff. You know,
does Virginia feel the pressure of that, and does Duke
play more freely and up end things and cause even
more chaos in the Atlantic Coast Conference. I think that's
an incredibly feasible possibility for this title game tomorrow night.
But I also see a world in which Tony Elliott,
who I have a lot of respect for, has his

(03:41):
team completely ready to play in this game, and a
slightly underrated Virginia defense turns out a solid performance against
Duke and the wa Who's win it and go on
to their first ever playoff appearance to represent the Atlantic
Coast Conference and maybe, just maybe, well you're not getting
two if they make it.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
I guess.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
I mean, Miami's probably not sneaking in that scenario. But listen,
the ACC wants representation in the college football playoff. Mandy
Dia is saying yesterday, they're getting it no matter what.
So Monday headlines today, what are your thoughts on the
big time college football weekend?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Coming up?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Seven oh four numbers saying Monday headline blue Devil's very
cavalier in victory over Virginia. Okay, all right, I like it,
NASCAR Brad headline, Duke turns college football playoff upside down
by stunning Virginia thirty nine to twenty one. I'd be now,
I would be stunned to Virginia only scores twenty one points.
I would I mean Mandy di as his defense hasn't

(04:32):
exactly been shut down this year, So I would be
stunned to Virginia's offense only turns out twenty one points
in that game. But NASCAR Brad, I do like the
ballsiness of your prediction, So keep him coming. Seven oh four, five,
seven oh ninety six, ten. Let's say good afternoon to
young smoke Ludwick. What's going on, big fellow? How are
you not much?

Speaker 3 (04:50):
You know?

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Biggest game for Duke in years, first time at the
ACC Championship game since twenty thirteen, and as a Notre
Dame fan as well, pretty nervous because I feel like
the committee is just waiting to finally put Miami above
Notre Dame, and understandably so and rightfully so on the
last week, just so they can get the ratings to
go up on the final week. So I'm praying for

(05:12):
the impossible to happen, Kyle, you are I'm praying for
Alabama to get blown out tomorrow because I think that's
the only way that both Notre Dame and Miami get in.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
As well as a BYU lost.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Okay, So, so Bama gets blown out by Georgia, they
drop out of the rankings, they drop out of the
field altogether.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
Yes, because I can see that. People said, well, why
give them this extra data point? And you can't punish
them for that? Well, people say, what about SMU. How
did SMU lose that ACC Championship game last year?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Kyle?

Speaker 4 (05:48):
They lost it in the final minute, the final seconds,
yep of the game.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
It was a close game.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
They get If Alabama gets blown out, we're going into
untreaded waters here, and I think Alabama will be forced
out so they could get Notre Dame and Miami in there,
that is, if Virginia wins.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Well you had me I kind of malfunction for a
second because when you asked me that question, my head
went straight to the Penn State game for a second.
I was like, wait, Kevin Jennings throw turning the ball
over three? No, it was a different game twenty Yeah,
it did it did, but no, you're right, it was
a close game. They still got in. That's I heard
a conversation about your exact scenario this morning about Alabama
getting blown out, losing by multiple touchdowns. I think it

(06:25):
was least early with Mack and Bone this morning talking
about precisely that. So you know, I don't Alabama has
owned Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs that what's the
spread in that game? I think it's Georgia two and
a half. Yeah, Georgia two and a half at Mercedes
Benz Stadium down in Atlanta tomorrow. I like the Dogs, man,
And maybe that's a foolish pick because of the record

(06:47):
the history between these two under Kirby Smart. But I
just I like the way George is playing. And I
realized that they were in a dog fight against Georgia Tech.
But that's a rivalry game.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
They just absolutely throttled Texas thirty five to ten, not
that long ago. I know, Ohio State is the for
a lot of people, obvious pick to win the national championship,
and they're in that. I mean they are that for
a reason. They're a boring but very good team. No
offense to my very good Internet friend Charisma is supreme.
I don't wanted to get mad at me, but they're
a very good and boring Ohio state team. I get

(07:20):
why people pick them, but I am going into this
playoff and I don't know if this should scare me
or not. Because I heard Mac say the same thing
this morning, I do sitting here today think Georgia wins
the national Championship. But you can definitely hear the confidence
in my voice when I say that, right.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
Yeah, I'm also thinking too, as an Enterday fan, if
they get in, they got a legit shot to win
it at all.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Yeah, they've been firing on all cylinders and CJ cars
better than Riley Leonard. They have taken somewhat of a
step back on defense, yep. But I just Jeremiah Love
and to Jay Arian Price, to wide Receiver Corps better,
CJ car is better.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Look.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
A lot of people will probably be letting out a
heat sigh of relief if Notre Dame gets left out
on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
There are a lot of people who will chuckle at that.
I mean, and you know this as a Notre Dame fan,
that not many people are going to shed tears for
Notre Dame being left out if given the if the
committee's given the opportunity. Now, listen, this is still about brands.
Notre Dame draws eyeballs. People want to watch the Irish
even if they hate watch them. You know, I think
that you know has become apparent over the years.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Yeah, And if the SEC officials did their job, this
wouldn't even be a conversation because they would have beat
Texas A.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
And M again.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
And if Tyler Buckner was still not on this damn team,
this wouldn't be a problem because he would have been
able to hold the pat and we wouldn't be having
this discussion.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
James from Concord just said, stop it smoke. They haven't
played anyone. You got to admit that though Notre Dame
hasn't really played a great schedule this year, they haven't
played a super Again. Notre Dame has often played some
great schedules. But as we've talked about this week in
the Miami discussion, you know those SMU Louisville losses that
people like to pin on Miami as bad losses, those
would be the fourth and fifth toughest games on Notre
Dame schedule this year, as David Hale pointed out in

(09:01):
his piece.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
And they've lost their two games by what four or
five points? Yeah, listen, you to hang on, hang on,
hang on, Okay.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Uh who is Ohio State really played outside of Texas
in Michigan.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Outside of Texas and Michigan. Yeah, since we're going to
take away to two games from Notre Dame, hold on,
I'm not trying to take away games from Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Same thing for Indiana because the Big ten's gotten so
bloated that the teams that are at the top don't
really play anyone. People were saying the same exact thing
about Indiana. They only had one tough game and guess
what they did. They won. It took care of him.
Outside of that, it's been charm and soft.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
It's kind of hard to argue with me.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
I'm not I can't argue with that Ohio State into Indiana. Yeah,
both of them, because Ohio State their toughest games were
the first game in the last game. Let's not act
like that.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Listen, Yeah, Smoke said, let's not act I really can't
wait for that Ohio State Indiana game.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Now now, next year, next year. Notre Dame schedule is
soft soft, but yeah, yeah, well, you know those things
can fluctuate year to year. These schedules do get made
years in advance, after all. But I mean, you got
this Big Ten championship pitting two unbeaten teams Ohio State
Indiana twelve and oh Indiana's first ever appearance in the
conference title game, and of course a win here in

(10:10):
this game for either team, you know you're likely securing
that you are securing the top seed in the college
football playoff. I know that there are some people that
feel a certain type of way about Kurt Signetti. He
rubs a lot of people the wrong way. He's a
very brash, you know, even arrogant guide. I think arrogance
probably the right word. I feel bad using the word
arrogance sometimes because you know, it feels mean, but I

(10:31):
think that's the only way to describe Kurt Signetti is
that he is a very He's an arrogant guy. He's confident,
he's cocky, like I'm not trying to insult the man.
I actually like his you know, heel pro wrestling type
of persona.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
I think it's gotten him where it has to his view. Yeah, No,
I think it's great. It's great for the sport.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
You don't have to like him, but you have to
respect him because the man's twelve and oh and back
in the playoffs at Indiana for the second straight year already.
And I think, my mind, in most others, the greatest
coach in Indiana history. But I think he's great for this.
So you got that one that's the biggest, that one
in Georgia Alabama, two biggest conference championship matchups in the country, right,

(11:08):
there's no question about that. BYU and Texas Tech is massive.
It doesn't carry the same national appeal, you know, in
terms of your average fan you know out in the
hills of Idaho or you know down in Oklahoma tuning
in the way they might for these other games. But
you got a couple of eleven to one teams in
the Big Twelve Championship game meeting at at and T
Stadium and Jerry World for the Big Twelve title. Neither

(11:30):
of these teams has won the Big Twelve crown before
this season. So whichever wins this gets the first in
program history and a really strong playoff resume. And I
continue to marvel by the way and just how. And
maybe I shouldn't because they do have Cody Campbell funding
everything out there in Lubbock. But the fact that Texas
Tech is just great in everything right now. I mean,
think about how consistently great their basketball program has been

(11:53):
for basically the last decade at this point, and now
the football program back in the playoffs. It's pretty incredible.
Texas is known as a state right for its football acumen, prowess,
and volume of talent, so it really shouldn't be a shock.
But I mean, you look up at the seasons that Texas,
Texas A and M and Texas Tech have all had.
It's just been a banner year for football in the
state of Texas. Yeah, and you just I mean you

(12:17):
said back in the playoffs. They haven't been in the playoffs. Well, okay,
I'm sorry, in the playoffs, get point.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Yeah, So, I mean, this is the best year they've
had since two thousand and eight, the year already beat
Texas in a historic game with Michael Crabtree. I mean,
in this time around, it's not the offense that's stealing
in the headlines, it's the defense. The defense is just
where and tearing every single team apart, and the offense
is doing a pretty good job, but just doing enough
to get the job done. I mean, it's absolutely insane

(12:43):
how good their defense is. And I think honestly, when
they played BYU to first time in Lubbock, they played
overall like a B minus game and still blew them
out of the water. So I think it's going to
take a herculean effort from BYU to get the job
done this time. Yeah, but I just can't see it
from a true freshman quarterback in Bachmeyer in this situation.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
I'm with you. Now.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Two things that caught my eye on the FanDuel text
line really quickly. First of all, Myron Goodman, our guy,
texting in to say that Kurt Signetti is the best
thing that's ever happened to IU athletics since Bobby Knight
said UNC should have hired him before I you ever
had a chance to. I think a lot of programs
probably feel that way that might have spoken at least
to Kurt Signetti. Man, that's a missed opportunity. And then
the Bagel guy told me arrogant in sports is a

(13:26):
compliment KB. I think it can be, but is there
a more arrogant person in sports than Kurt Signetti. I'll
throw that out there to the as the boss man,
the Rictator likes to say, the Charlotte Cognizanti. Who is
the single most arrogant person in sports today? If not
Kurt Signetti seven oh four or five seven oh ninety
six ten, who do the first name that comes to

(13:47):
my mind? Because this is like an impromptu thing, the
first name of arrogance. I go to Sean Payton, like
right off the rip, when I think of the most
arrogant people in sports, I'm thinking Sean Payton.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Who was the first name that came to mind for you?

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Well, we're going to completely bury it this impromptu segment here,
because you've forgot the best one.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
Who's that? Dan Hurley? Oh yeah, oh, Yukon Adam.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Right, as soon as the words were leaving your mouth,
Yukon Adam just said Dan Hurley.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Lol. That means great. I love that too.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
Look, Leshan Payton's like top five, top ten arrogant, but
like Dan.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Hurley's a different level.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Man.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
We thought Bobby was intense, Bobby feels like decaf compared
to Dan.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
I don't know about that. Well oh oh yeah, okay, okay, yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
For some reason, I was still thinking Bobby Night. I'm sorry,
my head's all over the bus. No, no, no, no, no,
you're right, because for a guy who gets Danny and
Bobby confused and says the wrong name routinely, Yeah, I
should have picked I should have picked up boy.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
Unfortunately for Dan still happens to him.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yeah, look at the text come again, most arrogant individual
in sports. I've got a lot of Lane Kiffin already,
not shocked by that, a lot of uh okay, we
got Lebron James come again. Okay, Baker Mayfield has made
plenty of appearances already on the text line too, and
Aaron Rodgers. These all fit this this one where was
the one?

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (15:01):
This one stood out? I got immediately seven oh four numbers,
said Bryson D. Shambeau, which I I absolutely would have
agreed with a couple of years ago, and it's probably
still true. But it does seem like I feel like
a loose a better word to describe him. See that's
is a loof better for him? Or is a loof better?

(15:22):
I was thinking Lane, but a loof is more like,
you know, not friendly, very distant.

Speaker 4 (15:30):
Okay, well that might not be, Yeah, because he's actually friendly.
Lane's a pretty friendly guy, right, I know Band Shambeau
is with fans. He's a lot more now, Yeah, he's
a lot more now. I think Bryson d Schambeau. I
think his personality has morphed or evolved over the last
couple of years. He used to be absolutely like the
Trevor Bauer of golf there for a while. I know
that's a dangerous comparison given off the field stuff, but
you know what I mean, A guy who didn't care

(15:51):
if he rubbed people the wrong way, went about things
his own way, you know, approached the sport in a
rather let's say, unorthodox manner, at least in terms of
trained and stuff like that. I always thought Bryson d
Schambeau was Golf's Trevor Bauer in that way. But yeah,
Bryson's personality has softened a bit, I think the last
couple of years. So I don't Yeah, I'm curious what

(16:11):
people think about that. Seven oh four, five, seven ninety
six ten. Let's see Fat Sugar shorts Denny Hamlin, Kurt
or Kyle Busch just at a straight NASCAR version for
Fat Sugar shorts Denny Kyle or Kurt Busch is what
he's saying. He's a pretty good by the way, mj
just got off the stand about an hour ago.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
What do you say?

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Or just about the whole NASCAR anti trust low Now
I know what he's doing. The quote's been You've been
watching the quote tweets, haven't you.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
Yeah, Well, Steve O'Donnell had his, and then I think
it was I forget who it was for Gibbs. I
think it was Heather Gibbs talked about it and basically
how NASCAR forced Joe gibbson to making the decision hang on.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Michael Jordan's testimony has concluded, we.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Don't have to recap it now, but any explosive quotes
that have caught your eye.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
Honestly, not really from Michael Jordan. That wasn't really the
explosive part. But it did get Jeff Gluck on Sports Center.
Oh did it really? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Jeff Gluck got on sports and I'm like, hey, good
for you, Jeff all right seven four five seven ninety
six ten. Who is the most arrogant person in sports?
Kurt Signetti got us going here. A listener said he
is the most arrogant person in sports. I think he's
up there, but I'm not sure that he takes the
absolute crown. We'll take your thoughts on the other side.

(17:25):
And as we go into a Panthers bye week, I
find myself feeling just a little bit empty without Panthers football.
That probably has a lot to do with the last
game they played against the La Rams. But I also
have a predicament that I'm in for the Saints game
coming up next weekend. I want to see what you
think about it.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Next.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Sports Radio ninety two seven WF and Z, who is
the most arrogant person in sports? Up organically in the

(18:01):
opening segment there, but it's taken off on the FanDuel
text line. Kurt Signetti was the jumping off point for
this conversation. I think he's great for the sport. I
love him. I even had Buck Eye Dave on the
text line saying, I'm an Ohio State fan and I
love Signetti, but they're sure as hell not beating us tomorrow.
So I actually love Signetti and the attitude, the hubris,
all of it. I think he's great for the sport,

(18:21):
and that's the kind of arrogance that we're talking about here.
A lot of text on the text line coming in.
Salesman said Ricky Henderson was arrogant. He was, but like
in a almost in a lovable kind of way.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (18:31):
You weren't really you didn't get to watch any Ricky
Ricky Henderson, did you what?

Speaker 4 (18:34):
He retired by one, So yeah, I started watching like
two three, So I just missed out on even back
end Ricky.

Speaker 6 (18:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Draymond Green is getting a lot of love on the
text line here too. Well, I don't want to call
it love. He's being deemed the most arrogant man in sports.
Dion Sanders has also come in Massive human was the
last one to send that in.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Stephen A.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Smith several nominations on the text line.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
I even got a John Rocker, which.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
I gotta be honest with you, not expecting to get
a John Rocker there.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
But there's a different word that we can't say that
but best describes him period.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Well, I mean he's you know, he's off it a
little bit, you know, that's John Rockers.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
It's kind is m O.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
He's off his rocker. That's kind of what he's known for.
Keith Hernandez came in Brett Beilamoh, I didn't expect to
get a Bilama on the text line. Wow, South Carolina
fan has to be Several Bill Belichick's have made an
appearance on the text line, and I'm curious now how
many of those Bill Belichick submissions are coming from actual
Carolina fans. And at some point we do have to
talk about which fan base is less happy about their

(19:34):
head coach returning next year, n C State or North
Carolina fans. We can get back to that later in
the show, but a few more of these. Floyd Mayweather's
become popular. Jerry Jones has become very popular. Where's my guy?
Shrimp fried?

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Bryce?

Speaker 2 (19:47):
He told me, I said, I've said for ten years
the most arrogant p word in the NFL are Cam
Jordan and his old coach, Sean Payton. Screw them both,
keep pounding. And then he said, also, I accidentally sent
that to my my wife and she said, okay, so
just be be be careful.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
And that's that one's innocent.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
We oftentimes on the text line get texts that are
intended for significant others and not for us. And I
would say, if I were, you know, a lesser man
of lesser integrity that over the last several years, I
could have collected no fewer than four dozen accidental texts
to our text line of things that weren't intended for us,

(20:28):
that were probably a bit embarrassing for people. So just
be safe out there. We once had a guy send
us a text where he was pleading with his mistress
not to leave him, and sent us the entire, multiple
paragraph plea for his mistress not to leave him, and
then begged me not to share that with anyone, as
if I wanted anything to do with, you know, a
love triangle or somebody else's domestic issues.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
Yeah, we're like, yeah, dude, we're not gonna tell anyone. Yeah,
we're gonna laugh. That's your problem. You know, we're gonna laugh.
We know about it now, we're gonna laugh. But we're
not going to insert ourselves in your private affairs. No,
definitely don't want to do that. Seven oh four or five,
seven ninety six ten, Hit us up, Johnny. Few more
of these. Johnny Manziel got very popular. I think it
was Miles from South Park the first one I saw

(21:11):
send that in a lot of Kyle and Kurt Busch
on here. Oh, Barry Bonds.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
The bagel guy said, Barry Bonds, he is one of
the all time most arrogant people in the history of sports.
There's no question about it. Barry Bonds belongs on the list.
All right, Oh, Ryan Clark, Buzzy says Ryan Clark, who
probably qualifies. We're going to play some Ryan Clark here
in just a minute, because well, the Panthers don't play yet.
They play next weekend. They're on a bye week this week,

(21:37):
and uh, you know, I'm not lost without Panthers football,
but I am sad to not have Panthers football. It's
a very unique, it's a very you know, kind of
odd feeling. We haven't had to miss Panthers football that
much the last couple of years here in the you know,
first week in December, because they've largely been out of it.
That is not the case, although I do have to
mention smoke next week when the Panthers return. I was
telling Colin Hoggard about this earlier today. So I got

(21:59):
a busy week next week. I'm flying up and back
to Baltimore next Friday for USAA r USAA radio row
for the Army Navy game. One of my favorite events
of the year, and typically we stick around for the
game the following day, but I can't. I've got, you know,
a bunch of television play by playwork next weekend for
a tournament in Las Vegas.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
I'll sit to big time sure that we can.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Call it that, But I've got a weekend full of
TV play by play I've got to do next week.
But then also, my daughter has her very first ballet
recital next weekend, all right, and the one that I
can make it to, all right, is in the middle
of the Panthers game.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
All right.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
So obviously I'm going to be a good dad and
I'm going to attend my daughter's first ballet recital, which
you might not be so shocked to find out is
the nutcracker this time of year.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
All right, but that is good smoke. That's some of
your best work right there. That's good.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
That was really really quick. But you know, this Panthers
game is on right in the middle of my daughter's
ballet recital. This recital goes for two hours, I'm told,
all right, my daughter's in this thing for like five
minutes maybe less, right, Okay, So, as a dad who
also does this for a living, I'm trying to figure

(23:20):
out what to do. Do I am I the I
can't be the jerk in it like a dark auditorium
who's got the football game on a bright screen on
my phone with my earbut in I don't think. But
then can I also be the guy who stands up
in the middle of the recital and walks out after
my daughter finishes her five minute cameo? And she's very young,
like she's the little kid dancer, so like they can't

(23:40):
hold their attention for very long. So I'm trying to
figure out do I try to sneak out of this thing?
Am I the jerk that throws the door open and
you know it disrupts the entire Nutcracker?

Speaker 3 (23:49):
Do I watch it on the phone?

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Am I the jerk in the in the audience that's
distracting everybody with a lit up phone, you know, trying
not to cheer or scream when the Panthers do something
good or bad? Like, I don't know. It's I'm trying
to figure out what I'm supposed to do next Sunday.

Speaker 4 (24:03):
Look, so I know you don't have YouTube TV anymore?
Can you record games?

Speaker 3 (24:09):
I mean I can, but I hate it?

Speaker 2 (24:13):
I really it drives me nuts, Like when there's a
big game that I'm watching for work and I'm supposed
to like, I'm this is the Panthers, this is the
number one thing that we talk about for the most
part on the station, and so I guess I can.
But like, I'm also really bad at avoiding results, and
I don't know that I'll be able to avoid the result.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
Says the guy who doesn't get on Twitter during the
summer at all. You can avoid it. You can avoid
Twitter for three hours on a Sunday afternoon. The only
problem is I might text you certain stuff. So I'm
gonna have to just realize I can't text Kyle because it'll.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
Mess up his flow of the game. Be a big boy,
you can do it.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Watched the two hour Nutcracker with your daughter in there
for five minutes, and you also got let me guess
your other two kids are going to be in attendance
as well. Oh for sure, my parents are co in
the whole deal, Like it's a family affair that we're
going into.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
All right, even though I'm this is feeling weird for
me telling you since I'm not married and not in
a relationship, don't have any kids, thank God right now,
because I don't need dad.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Just beat a dad.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
That's fine, that's not an issue. Like when my daughter's
on stage, she has my full attention. That's my baby girl.
That's not the problem. It's that when she's done with
her five minute portion in this this Nutcracker performance, I
have another hour and fifty five minutes where I don't
know any of the other people on stage. I have
no other reason to be fully invested in this other
than being a supportive dad for five minutes. And then

(25:34):
there's another hour and fifty five minutes where the Panthers
game is going to be going on, and I'm like,
I'm going to be dying to watch this Panthers game.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
Well, and these kids, they're going to get sidetracked a
moment you leave up to take it from me, Kyle.
Back in second grade, I played Santa Cls for five
different plays and I was sick.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Yeah, so I had.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
To go through the ringer during that performance of a
lifetime for me, and right as I hit the last
note of that last song on the Santa Claus performance,
I ripped beard off and you could see that I
had a massive fever. But I went through it because
I was I was a boy, when I was a man,
I was a.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Man in that situation.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
If I can go through five or six Santa Claus
performances at my second grade play right before Christmas break,
you can get through two hours of watching a Nutcracker
with your daughter only in it for five minutes.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Oh god, I got people saying, KB, do you think
you're gonna be the only guy in there trying to
watch the Panthers game.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
I have no idea. I'm not sure. I'm just you know,
I'm thinking about next weekend and I'm just traveling. I'm
traveling all over the place. I'm doing games, and then
I'm like, I gotta get back and watch my girl.
But the Panthers are going to be on, And people
are saying, KB, it's the Saints. This better not be
a close game. Well, I agree with you, But what
if it is? Because the first one sure didn't go
the way we thought it it was gonna go. So
I don't know. I got a week to figure this out.

(26:48):
Maybe we can work on the logistics together. But it's
you know, stressing me out, it's trusting me.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Look, i'd get it a little bit more if you
went out after you know, her performance, but you're also
coming back from you know work after that too, so
it's kind of one of those situations. So yeah, I
just just sit there, sit there and take it.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Yeah, for two hours for the people saying be present
for your daughter, I know, always first and foremost, but
it's five minutes out of two hours, and then she
doesn't even go on the stage again, like nowhere to
be seen. So at that point I have no further
commitment to this. Seven oh four or five, seven ninety
six to ten. Hit us up on the FanDuel text
line with your thoughts. I do want to play this.

(27:28):
By the way, speaking of the aforementioned Ryan Clark and
Ocho Sinko had a conversation about our very own quarterback
Bryce Young and his future with the Panthers, and both
of them, maybe one more than the other, seems to
think Carolina should absolutely and automatically either pick up the
fifth year option or, in the case of o Cho Sinco,

(27:48):
lock him up long term.

Speaker 7 (27:50):
If you're Dave Canalis, if you're David Tepper, if you're
GM Dan Morgan, your faced with the decision of do
we pick up Bryce Young's fifth year option, and in my.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Opinion, you have to. He's shown you too much good.

Speaker 7 (28:04):
He's your number one overall pick. And I love that
he does this every game, no matter what happens in
the first half. He shakes every single player's hand on
the way to the locker room and says something to him.
This is a dude that was benched early last season,
left for dead. Many thought he'd never start again, and
he's become that sort of leader on that team. And

(28:26):
I think that's extremely important as well.

Speaker 8 (28:28):
Chad timing is impeccable when it comes to the NFL,
especially when it comes to contract negotiations or a player
having a fifty year option. And you look at again
the landscape of the NFL when it comes to all
the teams that are struggling to find quarterbacks, and you
really think the Carolinian Panthers would play round with a
quarterback like Bryce Young, who has shown tremendous improvement after
being bench Absolutely, you picked that up. If anything, I

(28:49):
would tie him up. I would tie him up long term.
Bright Sheng has been very clutch and he's the youngest
player in NFL history right now with eleven game winning
drives in the fourth quarter, and I really think the CAROLINEA.
Panter is going to shock a lot of people and
continue to shock a lot of people as we near
the end of the season and it come playoff time.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Oh so Ryan Clark automatically fifth year option, o Cho
Sinko raises him the fifth year option, or sees the
fifth year and raises him an extension for Bryce Young,
to which Ryan Clark seems very agreeable there at the end.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Man.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
It's funny how this conversation a goes back and forth. B.
You know, you have a lot of the national media
now it seems loving on the quarterback, even more so
than much of the fan base. And to be clear,
there's a lot in the fan base that love Bryce Young,
but it has at the very least, it seems to me, Smoke,
this conversation has advanced to the overwhelming number of people
believe that the fifth year option should be near automatic
at this point. I've even had two or three people

(29:45):
this week during our conversations say, yeah, KB, I'm not
the biggest fan. I wasn't sure about the fifth year option,
but listening to you and Smoke talk about the you
know reasons for it, the business reasons why, those sorts
of things.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
Yeah, I think that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
So I think most people have now at least gotten
to the point where they either expect or outright support
the pick up the fifth year option by May decision.
But there's O Joe Sinko saying no, I just go
ahead and extend him. Okay, what money though, Because here's
the thing. We can sit around talking about what the
top end quarterbacks are being paid. You know, I heard
Mack and Boone this morning talking about thirty million dollars

(30:18):
a year that would make him the twentieth highest paid quarterback,
right behind Baker Mayfield at nineteen. And it's like, yeah,
but his agents aren't gonna buy that. They're not gonna
buy that. That's the thing that is Bryce's agents are
you know what You're right? Bryce has just been okay,
will accept okay money. I don't think that's happening.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
And if Bryce, if they agree to that deal, Bryce
better get a new agent at that point, because what
are agents supposed to do to get you the most
money possible in this situation? Look, do you want to
give Bryce top three top two money right now?

Speaker 6 (30:48):
No?

Speaker 4 (30:48):
Absolutely not and I like Bryce, but you can't give
him that much money get considering how many questions we
still have about Bryce. But that's why to fifty year
options in place, so you get more time to see
what happens on the field. And it's also not gonna
tick off Bryce Young at this point because it gives
Bryce more security saying I essentially have two years left

(31:10):
here to prove that I am the guy, and it
just delays the inevitable essentially where you're gonna have to
eventually make a decision. But you want to have as
much time as possible. Now right now, what what do
I think the baseline would be to get him a deal?
I'll probably say somewhere into forty five million dollar range. Yeah, yeah,
you want to delay that as long as possible, especially

(31:32):
this offseason when you're going to have to get a
deal done with Ikeyakwanu and that's coming soon, and that's
coming and it's a deal that is the right deal
to make because guess what, we haven't look, Ikey's not
the best left tackle out there, but he's turned into
a damn good left tackle that is pretty damn consistent
for the most part, especially when it comes to the
Running Game.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
So you signed that?

Speaker 2 (31:53):
Yeah, seven oh four, five seven ninety six to ten,
King McQueen saying, if Sam freaking Donald can improve, Bryce
will eventually be a super are on some team. How
are we so sure he won'ts he wants to sign
with us with all the doubt and lack of trust
from Canalis. Well, I mean, I don't think that's the
way Bryce is looking at it.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
And I don't.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
I don't know that the lack of trust with Canalis
thing is even a real thing anymore.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
I got to be honest, I don't think that's a
real thing anymore. I think those guys do like working together.
I think just a consistency, Yeah, for sure. Seven oh four, five,
seven oh ninety six. Ten hit us up on the
FanDuel text line right now, we go to smoke on
the headlines.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Who is smoke? Where is smoke? Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
And by the way, we're coming back to this conversation
here in very shortly. But I just wanted to make
sure we got that in there, because lots of folks
are chiming in already on the FanDuel text line.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
What you got over there, all right.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
Well, we start off by letting people know that this

what happened a couple of days, ago but it looks
Like Penn state might have their, guy and despite how
awful of a process it's, been HOW i think they
might get a really good coach in the. Process Matt
campbell And Penn state are currently undergoing discussions on trying

(33:23):
to get a deal together to bring The Iowa state
head coach and Former toledo head coach To ames or
From Ames Iowa Too Happy valley In. Pennsylvania it also
helps too That Matt campbell Hates.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
Pitt oh that's. Good, yeah that's a really good.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Thing But Matt campbell likely going to be In Penn

akos and everyone else that has their ears to the.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
Ground right there you, Go well come. Back if you're
on the phone, lines hang. Tight you, Know i'm gonna
take as many phone calls as i can throughout the
course of the. Show but when we Return, chippatterson cbsports Dot,
Com Cbsports, network and The cover three, podcast we talk
all about College Football's championship weekend, Tomorrow Sports radio ninety
two to seven WFN z.

Speaker 9 (34:16):
Better it will be our tenth eligible opponent that we've played, against,
RIGHT i, mean even our losses are to teams with ten,
wins ten, wins nine, wins nine, wins and eight. Wins
we've played a very very difficult. Schedule no one else
who's played as Many bowl teams as we have is
even both. Eligible there's only five teams that played nine
bowloguble teams or. More the rest of them are not
Even bowl. Eligible and so to have a quality, win

(34:39):
which we would, be of, course by what you're suggesting On,
saturday would be the quality. Win those are just wins
better than anybody in the other group of five conferences
would be able to. Match And i've got a lot
of respect for those teams and their coaches and how
they do. It but you, know you go six to
two in this, league you've done. Something you win a championship,
game you've really done. Something and that's what you. Know

(35:00):
that's that's that's, what that's what it's all.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
About there Was Manny diaz yesterday on the show with
me talking about his team's. Resume there's seven and five
going into THE acc championship game tomorrow night here In Uptown.
Charlotte and while almost no one outside Of Manny diaz
believes that a win gets them, in And i'm not
even Sure manny really believes. It i'm sure he believes
that it. Should i'm sure he believes his team could

(35:23):
compete in the the the college football. PLAYOFF i don't
even Think manny believes his team will make the playoff
if they Upset virginia tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Night and as A duke, FAN i don't believe it. Either,
no you shouldn't believe. It and the only way THAT
i think it's possible is If troy beat Shame you
tonight and then uh jmu or Get troy beat shame.
You oh, crap both teams whoever, wins The americans getting
in no matter. What, sure that's, yeah you're.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
Screwed you.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Screwed there's no other way around that you're not getting.
In SO i, mean, listen that's the worst case SCENARIO
i think for THE. ACC i did find it interesting That,
manny because we played the audio yesterday before the show
of him talking To Ari wasserman And Andy staples on
their Show ari And andy overtt on three where he, said,
definitively without any you, know room for, doubt THE acc

(36:15):
champion will never not make the college Football.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Playoff, like when you say, that do you mean? That
do you do you believe?

Speaker 2 (36:24):
That because when you say, that, well the THE acc
champion will never not make the college Football? Playoff do
you think that the committee is suddenly going to vault
you that many spots ahead in the. Rankings you're not
in the rankings right, now but to be one of
the five highest ranked conference? Champions do you think they're
gonna do? That he must think there's at least a
possibility of. It so, anyway we set that up for

(36:46):
a conversation With Chip. Patterson, Unfortunately chip just texted me
and said that he's gonna have to bump back to
five point thirty, Today so we set this whole conversation
up With. Chip he thought he was good to, go
but he got pulled INTO cbs and cover three duties
in the last couple of minutes because well because of
The Penn state higher Of Matt, campbell so he had
to go work his day job for a couple of.
Minutes chip has apologized to the audience and said that

(37:07):
he will be back with us at five thirty. Today
so five o'clock we'll go back to Back Nate wimberley
at five o'clock And Chip patterson at five thirty. Today
so if you're very disappointed to not Hear chip right,
now we. Apologize it's you, know it happens, sometimes so
make sure to stick around for. That, also just a
quick high school football piece of news With Nate wimberley
coming up at five. O'clock news just broke minutes. Ago

(37:29):
Sam grinder out as the head football coach of The
West Charlotte, lyons which is. Fascinating WILL i know that
we don't often break high school football news around, here but,
man The West Charlotte lyons Under Sam, grinder especially the
last couple of, years really tough won a state championship or.
TWO i forget how Many grinder. WON i THINK i
know at least, one but they made the playoffs this
year another, run And Sam grinder is out As West

(37:52):
charlott's head football. Coach that news breaking just minutes. Ago
so we'll talk To Nate wimberley about that at five.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
O'clock and we also have a lot of high school
football games recap because a lot of them removed to last.
NIGHT i know, Specifically crest Defeated, hickory So hickory's buying
to go back to back to. Back THREE pte is
officially over In, crest whose quarterback is committed To, virginia
who's playing in THE acc championship game tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
Night they are.

Speaker 4 (38:18):
Surviving and, advancing but it's not really surviving when It's
crest Because, KYLE i don't, know if you've ever Seen
cres play, Football they just.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Reload oh, Yeah i've never been able to call A crest.
GAME i was hoping to get one this year with
the schedule coming, out but boyd they produce some. Monsters,
LOOK i Know charlotte And Cleveland county are, too basically
two different. Earths, SURE i just got to, say once
in your, life go see Cressplay, Burns go See cress
Play Kings. Mountain just go see one of those Inner

(38:45):
Cleveland county games because it gets, packed Specifically Cres shelby
when they're. Playing, unfortunately they have usually is at its
best when they played late in the.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
Season but they're not in the same conference.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
Anymore BUT i remember when they played last week at
a season at twenty, fifteen people were lining up outside
the stadium at two pm on A friday.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Afternoon oh, yeah it's a really big.

Speaker 9 (39:04):
Deal.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Man they Produced christ has produced. THEM i, Mean Brandon
spikes comes to mind. Immediately Trey, Harveson Trey, harveson that's
a good. One Jonathan bullard another. One some of some
great players that have come out Of Cross High.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
School corse in. Basketball David, Thompson oh yeah that matters,
too all. Right SEVEN o four five seven ninety six.
Ten hit us up on the fan duel text. Line
Since chip had to move and we're calling an. AUDIBLE
i got some callers that want to talk on the phone,
line so let's talk to. Them royle wants to talk
About Bryce, young so let's do That, royle what's going?

Speaker 6 (39:32):
On, hey what's going?

Speaker 5 (39:34):
ON i just want to talk About bryce a little.

Speaker 6 (39:36):
Bit, sure you, KNOW i called IN i think it
was last week or so and kind of got the
guys rapped up a little. BIT i think it was
after The Bryce young four y'all passing, day AND i
was telling, people pump your breaks On bryce Because bryce
is the kind of guy that you can't you can't
go all in On bryce due to the fact That
bryce has shown us over the years that he's two

(39:56):
up and. Down we could not pray Pay bryce forty
five fifty million dollars and that's who they're trying to
compare him. To So i'm Just i'm confused on why
everybody in the city fold on Giving bryce this big.
Deal it's like if, anything like you, say take the
fifth year option, right and after the fifth ye, option

(40:17):
we have to cut, ties so that means we have
to draft good over the next two.

Speaker 9 (40:19):
Years.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Boo but hold, on you jumped a. Couple first of,
all you cut out when you compared him to somebody
who was that? Player because you cut out who was
That Trevor? Lawrence oh well that we. Played you grabbed
The Chris long audio smoke for anybody who doesn't. Know
we'll play that back for people who didn't hear. That but,
okay so The Trevor lawrence, stay.

Speaker 6 (40:35):
WELL i, mean, well That's Chris long's, opinion but in my,
opinion we can't pay him north of What Trevor lawrence deal.
Is it's not quite about who makes each other. Better
it's just if you want to line up a contract
beside a contract and for a player they overly paid
For Trevor. Lawrence we can't get into that kind of. Crap,
Okay i'd rather let them. Go if we pay him

(40:56):
the twenty five or the twenty eight or whatever it
is on this on this fifth, year do. That that's
even too much for. Me i'm gonna be, honest Because
cam didn't make over twenty. Five so if you, say,
hey that's a different, time, OKAY i, Understand but we
just can't break the bank On.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Bright, Well, well let me ask you a question before you,
go because you're you're raising some at least interesting points
to argue with, here BECAUSE i, mean some of the
things you're SAYING i, get but, like, okay you're saying
you can't even after the fifth year.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Option you.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Can't what if they go eleven and, six twelve and
five next year make the, playoffs then you're talking about extending, him.

Speaker 6 (41:25):
Right, yeah you're talking about extending, them but at what,
rate at what, cost at how long that we're gonna
get in bed with them for that long and then we're,
like we had, two you, know two good, years but
it's not gonna be. CONSISTENT i wouldn't do, it you,
know because at the end of the, day you're gonna
have to rebuild because you. Can't you can't afford to pay.
Everybody so we're gonna be letting good players lead that

(41:46):
we you know that we should.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Be PAYING i hear, you but the salary cap number
is gonna keep going. Up you Referenced cam a second.
Ago If cam was playing, Today cam would be making
sixty million dollars a.

Speaker 6 (41:54):
Year that's, Right so we wouldn't have had a problem
of Paying cam forty five sixty million during his peak
instead of twenty. FIVE i actually Think cam was worth
more than the twenty, five but it was politics involved in.
That so if you're thinking about, it, yeah we Had
cam by all, means Pay cam high fifty sixty and
then we'll build around. Them we can't do that With.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
Bright, OKAY i appreciate the phone. Call Thank i'm sure
people are going to argue with.

Speaker 4 (42:18):
You.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
Hold i'm trying to think what also just.

Speaker 4 (42:21):
Puts in perspective how much the cap has risen in
the last ten years when you look At cam's contract,
now trying.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
To think when Did? Camp when Did cam get the big?
Contract what year did you get the? Contract it was
actually right before HIS mvp, season who was Like May
june of twenty, Fifteen so what. Perc i'm trying to
think what percentage of the salary cap because it's not
about the money.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
That he, made it's the percent of it's the.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Percentage so in twenty, Fifteen cam took up eight point
seven percent of The, panthers but it's not to come
into place because that was the fifth year. Option oh that's, Right,
okay so you got to go to twenty. Sixteen, Yeah
may you're sure of the?

Speaker 3 (42:51):
Deal?

Speaker 2 (42:51):
Actually, Okay SO i got to look that up now,
too because it's actually you're, right it's not twenty fifteen to.
Twenty sam's actually good because luckily For, cam for us
in this, Conversation cam's first year was the first.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
Year oh, yeah there you. Go that's the.

Speaker 2 (43:01):
Number so he nearly thirteen percent of the salary cap
is What cam took up in two. Thousand that's about
what most starting quarterbacks are taking up in the salary.

Speaker 3 (43:08):

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
