Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ashton, you got a little delivery from the Brisbane Broncos.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I did.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Did you notice anything different about the delivery? It was
all black okay.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
With some silver writing.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
It was a black jersey. Anything else? No, did you
pick up on anything?
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Just for a good cause?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Maybe one of the best gags that I've ever done.
I thought, I thought, I'll tell you what it is
in just the second Welcome back to two doting dads.
(00:39):
I'm Mattie Jay Ash. This is a podcast all about parenting.
It is the good, it is the bad, and they're
relatable and if you come for advice, it won't happen.
So Ash, what happened was that delivery? Okay? Someone from
the Broncos messaged me and said, would Ash want a jersey?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I did want a jersey because it was for a
good cause.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
And I said, can you send me your details your
address on however, I changed some of the details ever
so slightly, and.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Go on, I'm so I'm so confused.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Put you down as Ashton Wicklesworth and I was like,
wait till he gets this. Didn't even notice it.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Okay, I'm pretty sure they didn't do that. That's good
gear though. Wiggles yea.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Laura was like, what are you laughing on over there?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Giggle to himself is gold and I was like nothing,
and it's just like, no, what up to And I
was like, I've just set one of the world's best pranks.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Franks is a bit rich and I was like, now, Laura,
now we wait.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
I didn't even see it. I was wasted. I was like, oh,
this is gonna be good because I'll go home and check.
But I've only kept the inner. The inners of the outer.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
The packaging has been discussed.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
It was just in like an express Yes, great, hey,
great concept for the Jersey which is the Black Dog Foundation,
so for Men's Mental Health Week, so love that. Well,
thank you, mister Wicklesworth. I've banned it. Mister wickles Worth.
You are we referred to from here on out public holidays.
As a parent.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
It's just fucked.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I forgot, honestly, what do you mean? Someone said to me.
It was Saturday, We're doing Saturday morning soccer and someone
was like, what are your planning for the long weekend?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Is?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
When is it? They're like breaking news, You're in it
right now? Yeah, and the kids were like yeah, Dune.
I was like, fuck if you didn't even know what
a calendar is. Anyway, it was fine. I guess there is.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
There is no other reaction than just like a big
sigh when I'm like, oh, there's a fucking public holiday
coming up, And it was just like just I'd rather
no offense to the kids. I love you, guys, I
love you guys dearly, but I'd rather have you in
school than after school care.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, I was like, why are you not getting dressed
for school? I'm not going to school, damn it. It
made the whole weekend very long. I will say there
were a lot of activities had, and my heart goes
out to all the parents who had to try and
fill that time.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
What was your top activity?
Speaker 2 (03:04):
We played a lot of basketball in the driveway this weekend.
And I have a kelpie, so he doesn't.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Does that Like do you invite in your little complex?
Do you invite friends over? People are like, oh, look,
ashes they're playing. We'll send Billy down. He can play along.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
So they want me to babysit for them, well, which
just I think it's you know, no one's ever actively
come out.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
They're probably like, there is get away from him. He's
scary looking.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
I'm out there with smoking a cigarette, covet in tarts,
covet in tarts, yelling at my kids, eye patch.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Get the one, the fucking hoop. Oscar sounds exactly like me.
He's got trauma. Maybe we won't send him.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
We play this game called Pooh, which is horse, you know,
the game Horse, but it's because it's Pooh's funny the kids.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
It's great.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I thought, let's play Pooh and oscars the worst loser.
Oh my god, he screams and then runs off, and
then I'll be like.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Well, I guess I'm still the winner.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
And as he runs and then eventually he'll come down
and come back and.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Let's go again. Don't antagonize the poor fella.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Don't tell me how to parent. Yeah, let's let's have
Oscar learnt how to ride a bike.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
That's huge, he could do it. But can you hang
on a second? You lead with you beat your son
at Pooh? That's fine, And then you're like, anyway, in
another news, Oscar's married and you had two children and
he moved that home. That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Is it really that big of a masters?
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Here's a fun fun one for vic.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Can you ride a bike?
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Guess who can't April, Oh, oh, now you feel bad.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah I could do it?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Who I actually think? That's really mean that she never learns.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
They blame Frank. She never I taught her how to
ride a bike. It would have been ten years ago.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
On wait from training wheels or what? That's the best joke?
That very good and just end the show. Wasn't even
a question. I can't continue. That was too good. That
wasn't even a joke.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
I was genuinely interested to stick with it whatever that is,
continue with that, and I liked it. No I got
I got her a bike for a birthday once I
got matching bike, knowing that, knowing she couldn't. With the
thought behind it, I'm going to teach you how to
ride a bike because I can rude a bike. It's
that hard, Evidently it is. She did learn from me
really quickly on a like a just like a playing field,
(05:27):
so there's no people around here.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
As soon as we got that's what we tried to do.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
As soon as we got any people like, she was like.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
But she's a dancer, she's got great wife as this driver,
she's she's got great balance, you know, mobility. I've seen
stories where She's had a couple of Veno's in hand
backflips and she can do it.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
She's just I think it's just the people around. So
I get that she wants to try again. So have
you taught Marley?
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
No, I thought you could teach Marley as at the
same time I teach April.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
And it's a competition. No, just just for the lulls
o Marley, she's blessed cotton socks. She is no good.
I've tried, and I guess it's one of these things
you got to keep at it. But she gets frustrated.
She hates it. But every time every time we're walking
and we see a kid on a bike, she's like, gosh,
god damn.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, things you go stick. And we got the bikes
at Christmas, and when we had trouble, we got the
bikes to live it and all four tubes at the
time were fun.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
I'm still I was still dealing with that till this.
April kept saying to me, you need to fix because
it happened again. You need to fix oscars. We only
got divorced over one of those things in the house
that it's like it's on the very bottom of like,
unless oscars, let's ride the bike. He forgot it even
had a bike, you know, and then I changed it.
We got out a couple of times over the weekend.
(06:57):
Maybee no leg strength.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
No, she's like from from starting from from flat ground,
first momentum.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
And a little push and then she stops pedaling. She's
like it stopped.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
But then when I got to give him a push,
my kids are like, I got this, and I'm like,
then I don't touch and they're like, well, they're gonna
help me or not? Which one is it?
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Let go me, let go me, let go me, don't
let go, don't let o me. It's the poor thing.
I kept evying to adjusted the seat because I'm like,
you need to keep I said, if you stop pedaling,
the Bible stop. And then she was like okay, and
I'm like, you got a pedal. She was like, oh,
I'm oh, my God's sake.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
If it makes you feel any better about April, Laura,
I'm pretty sure I'm not making this up. Laura can ride, however.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
She rides a motorbike.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
She's like, no, you think that right. But she had
a severe accident. I think she broke her shoulder. Maybe
even her on a bicycle. Good question, what school skills
like my bicycle?
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Do you know anything about your wife?
Speaker 2 (08:04):
She's got cracked feet and she washes them in the
sink and that's it. That's her Birthday's the twenty eighth
of month.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
I'm pretty sure because I had the e bike and
I a few times I said to Laura, like, hey,
just have a little go, just have an attempt, and
she was like petrified. It was like she was shaken.
It was like she was behind the wheel of an
F one car. She was like, I don't want.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
To do technically, I know what that's like.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Because yeah, so Laura is also she needs a lot
of practice. Do you used to hit jumps when you
were a kid?
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Yeah, used to live Muntcouth National Park. I used to
love it.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
There's so many cool little like jump tracks in the
wetlands are warrior with there, like the kids have made.
But of course there's an old lady who walks around
and knocks them down.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Barbara Barbara, speaking of old ladies. Speaking speaking of old ladies, Ash, Yes,
imagine tending the ripe old age of one hundred and twelve.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
That is twice as long as I want to live. No, yeah,
fifty fifty five, fifty six, I start to say my goodbye.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
I no, I imagine. I imagine getting to like fifty
six wine, get into fifty six and going I'm halfway
there is that right? Yeah? Fifty six hundred and twelve,
there we go, fuck about it.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Math's imagine being like ten and being like fuck because
like twelve.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
She looks pretty good. Shout out to her name is
Lorna Henstridge.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
That's an old person name Nay Patterson.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
She was born June sixth, nineteen forty. That's like, that's
like before World War One.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yeah, she has lived through two pandemics, two world wars,
the Great Depression, and twenty six Australian prime ministers.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Holy shit, I wonder what a secret is.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Well, it says in the article that she still goes
out for coffee three times a week and goes for
a walk every single day, and she's just lost.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
I did a shoot with.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
A ninety five year old for her ninety fifth birthday
and I asked her what her secret to a happy
life is and she also said, you have to go
for a walk every single day. It's something about moving
your muscles. It's also for your mental health. Walk is
boring the secret walking every day.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Use it or lose it, as they say, put a
podcast in. That's That's what I'm worried about with Nana.
Nana's like, because Bust is slowing down, Nana takes him
for a walk. She's only walking down like twenty meters
out the front door and she's back again, and I'm like,
you need more than that. I'm down two leashes, Nana
and Buster, and I'm like, come on, do you come quickly?
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Mouse Busters poohs going by.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
The way, Yeah he did. Actually he didn't pooh this morning,
which is god.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Concerning ticking time bomb. Speaking of pooing makes he's a
bog monster on where she just shits in toilets and
leaves it.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Oh LOI doesn't.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Actually, why do kids not want to flush the toilet?
What is it?
Speaker 2 (10:45):
They're fucking ginormous. When I say monster, emphasized the monster
and so monster the small No was it this morning?
It was yesterday on a public holiday. Somewhere along the
line of those three days that never ended. I was like, oh,
go to quick weee in our on suite, get in there,
and I'm like, things in here. Look down a.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
She's the bigot bigfoot ship in the bottom, and she's like,
don't touch it.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
I'm saving leave it.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Honestly, my kids get the ships. Literally, when I flushed
the toilet, they're like, wait, I wanted to get one laugh,
look at it, one last sniff, like what the what
is it?
Speaker 3 (11:21):
That?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Just like let it go? Do it.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
You got to keep on them, hey, you got to
keep on the oscars, the big three. He's missing the
big three. Now, remember we had that issue where I
was I was saying, hey, okay, finish, flush, wash your hands, whatever,
the big three.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Put the seat down, that's the other one.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
And he was doing two of the three of those
things every time, and it wasn't the same as two
of the three. He'd either wash his hands, flush, or
wash his hands, put the seat down. Not flash. He's
not doing any of them anymore.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Can he wipe his own bum? Yeah? Yeah? Can I
ask does he poo at school? I don't know. I don't.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
I've never been in. I've never been there when he's
taking a ship, I asked, don't. Actually, that's a good question,
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
My kids hate it. Oh yeah, did you a school
when you're I can't remember. Actually I went to a
school camp all right, tele Abudra, Gold Coast, Talley Valley,
all right, and it was into school camp and there
were bullies in the other schools and I was fucking
I was petrified of going to talks because they were
(12:23):
like bigger and they were just I didn't ship for
a whole week, only start to finish on the school camp.
I was like, I'd go in there and then It'll
be like, what are you doing? And I'd be like, nope,
turn around, be like not today. Are the quickest shitter
I've ever met? Too?
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Right now, that's probably why. That's probably why you're like
the trauma timid basically working. This guy used to eat
with his elbows up so that no one would steal
his food.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
And here you are. You're just like in and out.
I ship with my legs across the door and being
like how I come in?
Speaker 2 (12:54):
I don't want to embarrass Macy. But considering we're on
the topic. The other day, I'm at home with Macy.
He's in a room playing Lovely So Night. She is
a very good imaginative play I'm like Oscar, who's just like,
what are we doing next, But he's like, she's in there.
She tinkers away for ages and I walked in and
I was like, it's right. Their room is right next
to the bathroom, and I was like, I could smell
that someone had done a ship and I was like,
(13:15):
did you pooh mas? And she was like yeah, okay,
went in. She didn't flush, but I also noticed there
was a big pewy handprint on the toilet roll, and
I was like, what's the fuck? And then I was like,
all right, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt,
and I flushed it and I cleaned up that beer
and I went bring the washing in because I'm a
good guy. What thank you. I didn't even have to get.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Just put that one in there. I didn't even have.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
To get after that arm did the dish washer up.
This guy like just my dreams, Oh what's next, He's
going to make the bend.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Fuck anyway the good.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
So I'm going to enjoy it for as long as
it's looking at me like anyway. So I went back
a little bit later after it may have wafted out,
could still smell it, and I was like, oh, fuck,
here we go. I was like, Macey if you wiped
your bottom properly, was it squiggy No no, no, no,
no no no, I know when squeeze done one it's
on the floor and I'm like, hey, Macy, did you
(14:18):
wipe properly?
Speaker 1 (14:18):
And yeah?
Speaker 2 (14:19):
How sweet she is? Yeah? And I was like, okay,
I'm really really sorry. I'm going to have to check Brah.
She has shit all over her legs.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
All over her legs, down her legs.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Upper back, so she's whited dead front to back and
smeared up her back as far as she can read.
She had to clear as day handprint of her hand
on her back.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
That was shit. And then I looked at her clothes.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
She's changed her clothes and everything, so she's trying to
hide it from me.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Poor thing.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
But I said to her, he hate I don't want
you to ever feel that. You can't if there's been
a mistake. And then I was like, hey, so that
you know. And I just told her a few times
that I've shat my pants okay, which we know guilty.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Which I've been really good, I reckon. I told her
about it the bar is.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
I told her about the I don't know I've told
you this one. It was a manly Brisbane game at
SUNCRP Stadium and I was way up the back with
a friend and I thought I'd let it out of
cheeky fart, but it wasn't. So I've shipped myself at
SUNCRP Stadium and I thankfully I was staying in the hotel.
Father like daughter, So I've had to clean it. And
I said to April, I said, hey, just let her
(15:33):
know she had a poonami as we call it around here.
And she was like, oh what, and I was like, yeah,
because winter, she's got a few layers of clothes on,
every layer soiled. Literally I had to put her in
the shower.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
I tried to wipe her up with a wife and
just so that she didn't feel so bad.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
And I was like, host it down.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
You're gonna have to get the show in the garden.
You're gonna have to get in the shower.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
And she was like, I thought you didn't like pet names.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
She's hanging on a second words come from I call
her held that back last week.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
I call her pu for pudding sometimes, what's that?
Speaker 1 (16:05):
What's that about?
Speaker 2 (16:06):
I forgot anyway, I admit it.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Oh it's adorable.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Anyway, So she shit herself and was everywhere.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Can I just I know that we talk about shit
a lot. Carry on. I'm just gonna just really quickly,
I did something stupid talking about laundry as well. Laundry
has had a good run for the last couple episodes.
I was trying to help out at home. Just a
good guy. Just a good guy. Look at me, trying
to just like take on as much as I can
around the house. I put a few loads of washing on.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Oh what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Nana's not here. Nana's gone down south to Aladalla. So
she's gone so with her girlfriends. Yeah, I know one
of her birthdays. She's already fucking broken the aic on.
It's another story. So I'm doing the washing and at
the same time, I don't want to put this on Laura,
but there's like a dirty some dirty items that she
just puts at the base of the washing, so not
(17:00):
into the laundry basket to set the base.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
She's skipped the middleman altogether, skipped the middleman.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
As I've taken things out like some of the onesies
for example, which you know, it's a high turnaround. I
just want to get them dry, so I take them
out of the washing machine, put them in the dryer.
Some of them have fallen, so then I've just picked
up what's what's in front of me, put it in there.
Poppy had a poonami ship all the way up the backside,
so a full load of fucking undies and socks and
(17:29):
onesies and kids clothing. I then put in the dryer
with a ship filled onesie. You've heat it up. You
heat it up in terms. I was like, you can't
smell the man?
Speaker 5 (17:41):
Is that you?
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Some some not quite right?
Speaker 2 (17:44):
That's what it would probably smell like a port loop
lit up on fire.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
I was like, bust to get outside. He was like
what have I done? And I was like, you know
it was you. And then finally Laura was like what
the fuck is this? And I poor of me, poor,
We're just trying to help out. You know, I've done
a couple of loads of washing.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
You've made more work everyone.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
And then I staked the house out and there I
am thinking, I'm getting closer to the finish line. I
can right back at the start, start again, back at
the start. And I was like, it's fine, it's fun.
Just put it in the wardrobe all there. Oh, I
will not so. Yeah, did you wash it? Oh you
have to rewatch to rewatch right now, I'm rationing the
fucking laundry desergent.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Get the sheets, get the laundry sheets.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
My capsules, just really quickly. Not to harp on about
me and my situation, you know, because it's not it's
not about me. Let's don't. I don't want to be
the victim here. But I just want to let people know,
meet people aware that law has gone to India for
eleven days and none is also another dollar, so you know,
(18:51):
just I'm just doing what I can. I'm doing the best.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Things your way the whole time. Think about that way.
I'm going to do it all my way with no
interruptions from anyone else trying to butty In should be
smooth sailing if you ask me.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
How much she an Aladla for Nana's back. Another week
she's gone.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
For there's nothing to do down there for that long.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
No, they're loving it. They're going to the wineries and
they went for a walk to the harbor. They're having
the time of their life.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Who's they? Who got here?
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Helen's there out to Helen Lynn's there as well. Man,
I want to go this, wait, Lynn went, I would
have got it. So now I'm staring down the barrel,
sit in the barrel of just it's me and the nanny, nana.
It's very confusing your house. I know.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
It's just me, the nanny, the garden of the chef.
We feel for you, thank you.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
I didn't do this.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
I did.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
I didn't do this to get the reaction like that.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
But if you know, solo parenting can be tough, it
can be tough, but as Ash said, you can do
it your way. I find sometimes when Dan's are here,
I'm like, yes, now I can just do things like
my way.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Until down that will we if really she didn't mean it,
but yeah, without it, without someone buttoning in, it's my
way of the highway when mum's not there.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
I'm sorry, babe, it's just I feel like I feel
like I'm going into battle.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Good keep us updated. We're here and now we're feeling
for you.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
I've got a hot tip though.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
I like to get the kids on side, so I
preempt what's going to happen, and so I say, look,
it's just mummy here, we're a team. It's two against one.
You got to listen to me because I'm outnumbered.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
You talk to us like that, though, Are you talking
to us?
Speaker 1 (20:32):
One man?
Speaker 2 (20:34):
You're like, I'm out numbered.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Yeah you are.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
I use all my parenting hacks on you guys.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
You do your test amount on us. The other day
you opened up your palms and you're like, I wonder
what it would be like we got out of here
on time.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
We were like cobra snakes that had been like hypnotized
by that. What is it? Rick? Here on time? Ash?
I also just before we are still in housekeeping for
those who are playing long at home really quickly. I'm
not sure if you've noticed, if you're aware of this
type of behavior. I actually didn't know we were doing it,
(21:06):
and so I think it's important that we can self reflect.
We can learn what do you mean by weird or
what we're doing? Well, it's more you. No, actually no,
it's both of us. Sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
I don't do anything wrong, Vick.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
I'm not sure if you've noticed that we are doing this,
Ash and myself. We attack boomers. Oh yeah, okay, great, okay,
what do you mean.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
That's not a bad thing, it's just part of life.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Yeah, I know, I know, And look they are.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
They want to play the victim.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
They're an easy target, and I just want to read
out a lovely message that we receive from Melanie, who
is in fact a boomer.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
That's not a boomer name though, Melanie, I know, so.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Maybe she's cosplaying. Maybe she's changed her name because because
she changed it from Barbara.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Well, Barber's getting the run today.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
But Melanie says, I tell all my friends about you
and my daughter's friends as I love your podcast, it's
my favorite. I'm a boomer.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
I think that's what they should do.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Stop winging.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
You're never going to combat it, you might as well
own it.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Well, she says, so please be gentle with your boomer criticisms.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Okay, this is why I've got a problem with it.
Oh god, Okay, you created the monster. We're pointing it out.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
I am the child of.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Boomer parents who butt their nose in the business. That's
not nothing to do. If you're getting grouped in with that,
I apology.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
I can't generalize, ash, I can not the same. She
just says, here, please go withasy on us. We're not
all stuck in the sixties or seventies. Even though you
bag the boomers. This is still my favorite podcast by far.
Love from Melanie XX.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Look if we stopped, this show would lose its charm.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Melanie. I to be honest. I love I love you, Crawler,
I love you. I love that we have you.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Okay, I'll admit it. I take the piece out of
boomers because because I can doesn't mean I don't love you. Well,
look that doesn't mean I don't love you.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
I'm the yink to your yang. So whilst you attack them,
I always finish it off with a bit of you know,
with a softer like.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
You'll finish them off with a softer water.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Le's have to touch, nice, have to touch. It's like you
you like knock past them on the footpath and then
I turn around and go, I'm so sorry.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I'm so sorry about him, so sorry he's stuck in
his waist. Yeah, he's technically a pre boomer. I'm pre
booming over here.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Because before we know it, we're going to be fucking boomer.
I know, I know. It's not it's not.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
It's one of those things where it's like we'll make
fun of you because it's as as like endearment.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
It's because we love you. There it is nice and toxic,
so nice and toxic.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Actually, Ash, oh, now you're gonna pump me out after that.
I always pop you up. You're a great friend, a
great guy, you better dad, and an amazing podcaster. Wow,
put that on there, so that whole thing. But I'll
take it. I feel like you need to get better
at compliments.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
I'm no good at that. I am no good. I'm
good at giving them, not to you, I'm good at
I am good at giving them in subtle ways. That's
a I would say it's not a strength.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Well, but I can't. I can't. I hate it. Here's
one for you. Get comfortable, because we want to say, here,
congratulations for being six months sober. It's a huge achievement
and you should be incredibly proud. Thank you, thank you,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Wow, first the laundry.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Now we six months? So but what what can't the
man do?
Speaker 2 (24:23):
A man? A man?
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Yeah? Yeah, he's taking it well.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
I don't know. I'm squirming hard over here.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
But I like silence and I don't like compliments. And
if someone sings me happy birthday in public a friendship,
I will divorce. April if she gets that organized, so
be warned. She knows, you know, it's written down so
she doesn't make that mistake. But thank you. I've been
very long and quick six months in the same time.
I don't know. I've got mixed feelings at the moment,
so go on. I don't know. I just wasn't well
(25:00):
last week. And then we'll get to my tooth stuff.
I just a bunch of things that I just wasn't
But hopefully from here it's all upwards.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
I do want to hear about your tooth. But before
we talk about the tooth.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
To come to the mouth.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
So I'm very proud of you.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Thank you, Thank you. Way to make it more awkward.
Go for it all right, next you, thank you big?
What do you offer us?
Speaker 1 (25:18):
All right?
Speaker 4 (25:19):
For breaking news today.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Babies who sleep beside a parent receive thirteen thousand extra
hours of touch by age three.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
That's how much sleep we lose.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Though Yeah, experts say that kind of closeness can help
with bonding, stress regulation, and emotional development. The viral story
claims that responsive physical contact is biology not spoiling, although
safe sleep experts still warn parents to follow recommended sleep guideline.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
I fuck off let us sleep with our kids.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
I don't want to. I don't want to get out
of my room.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
No, I love it.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
How often do you guys have your bed?
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Well, as soon as I don't tell them to come
in that night, they're in that night.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Yeah, now that we want to good wicket with Lola
because she knew that when Poppy was in the room
that she couldn't come in. And now that Poppy is out, Ia'
was like fucking perfect night one.
Speaker 5 (26:11):
She was like, she was like, I'm back, I'm.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Here an interview for the opening, literally, and then since
that moment, just every single night.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
You don't have a huge bed, Toole and Laura are
quite close quarters.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
What size have you got?
Speaker 2 (26:32):
I've got a super king. Margas gifted it a while back,
a couple of years back.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
What are you sleeping on?
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Matt?
Speaker 1 (26:39):
A queen?
Speaker 2 (26:40):
What is it a queen?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
That's a queen?
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Yes, I reckon with kids, you need a king minimum now, Okay,
but hear me.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Out not to make me sound like I've been creepy.
The smaller bed, the more we're forced to cuddle.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
I see that.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Yeah, how stinky that congregation of breath would be.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
The morning I love it.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
That's why at their own I don't like to be touched. Really,
I don't mind. I don't mind a coudle in the
morning if they come in, and if they come in
at two or three in the morning, it's usually my
back that's a pincushion. It's just like it's like oscar Is.
He runs all day and then he falls asleep and
he runs in his sleep. I wonder what he's running from.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
How's April.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
She's like sleeping next to her dead body. She doesn't move,
she doesn't move. Her mom, my mother in law, married
to the chatter. She is a great boom, isn't it
just had the same fringe since she was a toddler,
like same style hair. And I said to April, you
escaped it. I don't know how you escaped. She had
it for like a brief period, like when she was
really really young. But April's mom still has it. If
(27:44):
she tied a hairbag, I wouldn't recognize it. I wouldn't
know who, oh, who were you? She's not that old.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
She's on her sixties.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
So April went away with her mum and brother years ago,
and her mom comes up to me and she was
like shared a bed in this hotel, and she said,
have you noticed anything about your wife's sleep happened? I
was like, what she was like, she falls asleep immediately
is one, and then she doesn't move when she gets
out of the bed, or she has to fold the
sheet back over and carry on with a laugh. She's like,
(28:17):
we didn't even need like the room to be made up.
It's so perfect.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
That's the dream, though, isn't it. It is decides having
a check for a Polese like four times in the night.
I have a few times and you're like, thank god
I tossed. I've got restless legs. So I tossed intern
a lot. But then so does Oscar.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
So the two of us in there, it's like two
it's like a break dance off. It's like everyone's it's
just like someone's in there doing the robot moon walking.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, not as much. She comes and covered and ship
she's like she has that.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
I know it's pitch black, but I know Masi's in
the bed because I hear this, like the snores a cue.
But I also like end up laying on her hair
and stuff. It's fucking annoying. Just stay in your if
I if we don't say stay in your bed tonight,
and sometimes we'll forget. They'll fall asleep, will be in benyone.
(29:15):
Should we wake them up? Adellum, because they will come in.
They'll just come in.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Does Marley come in?
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Not as much? Not as much. She's to come in
my side, and we'd have I'd just I'd like spoon them.
I love them all spoon And I always thought, I'm like,
this is good for development. Nice and tactile. We're a
tactile family. We're very like we cuddle.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
They all just stacked on top of each other on
that single bed.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Yeah. I do it with Louis, like I lie with
him before he goes to sleep, and then I've gotta
lie with Lily. And it's this competition every night between
the two who I lie with first.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Oh my god, that sounds exhausting.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
Oh god, yeah, and then in the night.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Recently, Louis has been coming in every single night and
I tell him, don't come in unless you've had a
bad dream.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
So everything, He's like, I had a bad Oh.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Yeah. They pulled that.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Out and I was like, well, I know what it
feels like to have a bad dream.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
It's awful.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
He's got yeah, he's got no. Matie even preempted a
bad dream. She's like, I was like April said the
same thing as you would, right, don't come in unless
you're having a bad dream a Mazie before she goes
to be The funny thing is.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
I think I'm gonna have a bad dream to.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
I don't know, but I think I'm gonna have a
bad dream tonight.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
It's like I got a sore throat. I wonder how
I'm going to be at work tomorrow. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Or Oscar was doing that thing like he would pretend
like he didn't know how he got there.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
So the next morning, but what are you doing in here?
Speaker 2 (30:35):
And he's like what am I? Oh?
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Who is that? You carried me in.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
The last thing I would do is carry you into
my bed.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
They work the system. My kid's always like fine, absolutely fine.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
I don't want to sleep with you anyway all day.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
The moment they go down the horizontals like ooh, it's
a bit of growing pain, growing pain on the shoulder. Yeah,
that's that's coming to nowhere.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Real. The things that they will just yell out to
get you to go in and check on them, just
for that little bit of attention. Oscar will be like,
I need to get something from my room. You're in
your room, or he'll be.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Like, Mum, what's this, what's this? I need a band aid?
What's this?
Speaker 2 (31:14):
I walk in and he's like, it was it was
just here, it was just here. It's like, oh my god,
just stay in your bed.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
But it's good. But it's good where we're helping the
kids develop, is that right, big yes? Good?
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Helping them feel loved.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Just don't let it turn into it.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
I do sometimes think I do sometimes wonder and I'm like,
fuck the amount of love we give our kids, Like,
you know, I think it was a bit resilient building
not having that much love, you.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Know, Like you know, sometimes I just like ignore them.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Sometimes I'm like, are you getting too much of a
good thing?
Speaker 2 (31:48):
I make it. I make my kids work for it.
Sometimes yeah, I'm like, like, there's a big difference between
hurting yourself and then hurting yourself and crying for the attention.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
And I think same with a lot of asp X.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Right where you're like, Okay, well do I need to
give you an X amount of love here or are
you just looking for it? And like for example, Oscar
say he hurts himself. I've hurt myself my whole life.
I know how much things hurt. And I'm like, hey,
finger's one thing. I know.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
It's hurt.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
I was born in. Especially if he hurts his hand
like catching the football, right, you know, it's like when
you stub your finger and I'm like, can you move it? Yeah,
shake it off. And if it's if he can move
it and shake it off, he's fine in my eyes.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
But if he.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Carries on, I'm like, now you're just carrying on. He'd
be like, oh yeah, you're right. Yeah, you know, like
they just want that little bit of extra, but you've
got to build a bit of REI right.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
I'm like, I love you so much, I don't love
you do anything for you. And I'm like, oh man,
should I fucking do this back?
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Okay, hey Ash, Yeah talking about hurt fucking good Segways today? Good? Good? Great?
I want Segway game is a plus strong. You had
us worried sick. Yeah. Last week fuck Ash did the
old like photo in the waiting room into the group chat.
(33:06):
Was like, I don't know if I'll make it into
work tomorrow. I was pre ending a sickie. My god,
what's wrong? What have you done?
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Do you know what? There's a cafe here in this
suburb that we in North Sydney that we love.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
I love how it's the last thing you ate. You
were like, it was that cafe. I'm going to sue them.
I will.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
I'm not. It's my own damn fault. Okay, they do.
They do a very good cookie, very good cookie. And
I was eating a cookie on the way home, the
one that I didn't just tell you guys.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
I also had a cookie, not the same type as yours.
Was the double truck double chuck with a bit of salt.
Was the white white chocolate Macedamia, a bit of Sultan there.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Dan even came home and talking about cookies with you guys, because.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
He refused the cookie. He refused the cookie.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
He was be worried about him. You watch yourself for
that guy. He's not good if you don't like cookies.
But anyway, I had, I had this cookie on the
way home. I was eating it and driving. Okay, it
wasn't a hazard, it was I was doing it safely.
And then I was like, ah, like okay, it just
felt a bit funny back there way up at the back,
like wisdom tooth molar area. I'm not a dentist, and
(34:14):
what I know, I was an anti I dentite. Previous
to yeah, Tuesday, I'd recorded all over with you guys.
I was already like a bit crooked from the weekend
before I was with Snuffy and I just thought, okay, well,
maybe my sign is just blocked up. And I get
home and around bedtime, I'm like, fuck, I'm aching up here,
like my face is aching, and I could find some reprieve,
(34:37):
like with a bit of cold water, bit of an iceback.
I was like, okay, I'm just gonna have to go
to the doctor in the morning. And it progressively got
worse and worse and worse to the point where it
was unbearable. And I said to April, I was really upset. Actually,
I was really upset because it was we had pre
planned sex on the cards, and I was like, not now,
(34:58):
this soldier needs to fight on.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Don't leave me behind.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Ape was like, oh no, no, actually I don't have
a headache. I was like really excited too. I was like,
you know, I really need this, really could use it.
And then I was like it was your the beads
of sweat.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
Why does it go to april? I'm good, I'm good
to go, pants are off. She's like, maybe we should
reschedule that. Hands are off. Couldn't get in direction because
all the blood was in my too.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Anyway, I was like, I'm gonna have to go. I'm
not far from the emergency care, not emergency hospital, emergency care,
similar thing.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
What's the difference.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
I think it's more like less critical. Like you know,
when you're in emergency, you could be like, I've got
a toothache and then someone comes in who's like being
stabbed or something.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
It's not it's excuse me. I have a saw too.
And I pulled up. I went. I was like, I said,
notice sex to be here, so factual that is more importan.
What's that you gasping for air?
Speaker 2 (36:03):
So am I I've gassed before?
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Oh gasp again.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Anyway, I got there and she was like, can I
help you? I was like yeah, and I couldn't. It
was so painful. I couldn't get through my name address medicare.
I was like, I'm like, damn it, just give me that.
I got through it and they sat me down, took
my blood pressure off one seventy seven over eighty two
that she said, did you sprint here?
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Like I had, like that's how high my heart rate was?
One seventies a heart rate, Yeah, that's her.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
One seventy seven over eighty two. And she was like woh,
like she only fell off a seat, this poor girl.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
And she was like, they obviously give you the spiel
about opioids because they're going to give you some oxie cotton.
And they're like, have you had an open before? And
I was like, got to my knowledge, yes.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
I have maybe accidentally, maybe accidentally give me up.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
I was like okay, So they do whole thing and
make sure that you're not a junkie. So they went
through all that and I took the oxy cotton and
they're like, okay, so you just wait in the waiting
room for a doctor to see you, but you have
to have someone to pick you up. I was like, okay, well,
I'm going to have to organize April to get a
dad over so Aprile can come get me because I
want frankly come and get me because have come a
whole thing where Frank would be awkward.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
I'll have sex with you.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Yeah, yeah, Frank will be like, what will be up
to this afternoon? I was like about to have sex
with your daughter, April. I'm really sorry about this story.
And then I said, hey, can you date it? I
was also very feeling very anxious.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Funny, you asked, Frank.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
I was feeling very anxious because I had realized in
my haste prior to leaving the house that you know
that I take THCHC for sleep, correct also good for pain.
I was in a lot of pain, so I doubled
dumps of THCHC trying to get rid of this pain. Okay,
but I had forgotten until after I've taken the oxy cotton.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
Oh wow.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
And then I remembered when I was waiting for the
oxy cotton to numb my pain. Anyway, so April comes
about fifteen twenty minutes later, I'm face down in the
waiting room in between you know, like when you're at
an airport, you've got those seats. I was like dribbling
pretty much.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
The guy being stabbed as they're standing up because you're
taking up four seats.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
There was a lady with a baby, and I was like, oh,
I was not a listener.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Don't see me like this. If anyone has any footage,
please send it in.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
Well, it's good news April got some footage. Ah, because
what happened is April walks in and goes the fuck
is wrong with you?
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Like, look at you dribbling. She's like, are you having
a stroke.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
I was like, well that rites someone, and I said,
I've taken some opio and some oxy cotton and the
THC that I take for sleep hit the same time,
she was like, ah, and they're like mister Ashton Wicks
And I was liked, wait, just id crawling. April had
(38:58):
to carry me. She had to pretty much, was like,
come on, you don't like.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Thank god your wife is so fit. That's what she's
been training for these moments.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah, the grip strength on April at the moment too.
I can't under the kids water bottles. You need to
ease up.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Can I see this footage?
Speaker 2 (39:17):
It give it to me to mind you. I haven't
seen it.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
So she sent me two photos. One of you is
just lying down with your head covered by hoodie, another
one you look sitting up comatose, and then the third
one is the video.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
It's not trusting that you wouldn't play it unless oh.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
My god, it's Oh my god, Oh my goodness, you
got the vans you got you got to slip on
vans on as well. Dad, you got very husky. I
(39:56):
don't know what to say. I don't know what to tell.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
You that, you know, like those hot best compliments he's
ever received.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
You look great. That's a given when you call up
and you get someone who's got a sexy voice as me.
Just ash on gummies and oxy cotton? Is it.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Actually sorry?
Speaker 1 (40:14):
The doctors in the house anyway, So I was thinking
oxy cotton. That's a funny name. Oxy content content continents.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
So I went home. I let you guys know I
was okay, but I I was honestly having the best
night of my life at that point.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
So can I see the tooth? Is it looking bad?
Speaker 2 (40:29):
I don't know, it's way out. I had to go
to the dentist on Friday and it's coming out this Friday,
so gosh.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
It's going to have a blown up.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Yes, I have succumb to the mouth. Salesman.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
This is this is what you get. The amount of
times we rippedh it on dentists and they've heard, and
they've they've attacked you.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
To be fair, the dentist that April book me into
took that last tooth out. He's a very funny guy.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Was well, well, I walked in. He was like, oh hello,
I can't dragged in and he.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Was his gloves and he's like, let's get this thing out.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
I was like, no, why didn't you get it out?
Speaker 2 (41:04):
They were gonna have to sedate me. I had no
one to pick me up. I had like that. I
just weren't prepared for the record, and I'm scared I
would have picked you up all the way from BONDI
what absolutely no, it's all good, guys. I'm going Friday.
I need to be prepared for.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
Something like did you be picked up on Friday?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
No, it's okay.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
Yes, we're just we're glad that you're still here. You're okay,
and we wish you were speedy recovery post surgery. Please
let us know how it all goes.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
I'm sure it'll be fine.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
I did mention before that my wife has left me.
She's gone, she's gone to India, she's working hard. Good
on Laura. She was like, can you you're going to
be okay? You're going to miss me? And I was like,
you're going, like, you're not going for a month, you know. Yeah,
she was like just I think she wanted me to
be more like, oh my fucking god, how are you.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Going to cope when when reality I think you're going
to be fine? Is that what is?
Speaker 3 (41:58):
Well?
Speaker 1 (41:59):
Look, I'm going to miss her for sure. Like the
k the kids were upset. The kids were kind of
crying as they went to bed before she left, and
they woke up and they were in tears as well.
They were like the realization that mummy's gone.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
She had to leave really this morning, to have to
leave very early.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
And so also the last day before she left, she
was packing her bag going through the admin. So I
had all three kids and I found a bit of
a cheek code to looking after the kids.
Speaker 4 (42:25):
A hack, if you will.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
So took the kids out, all three kids and the dog.
But a guy, three kids, three leg a dog. And
it's that little window before Poppy has a ten o'clock sleep,
and that sleeps a two hours sleep. It's a great sleep,
the best sleep of the day. So it's really important
that I get home for that sleep. I don't want
to have that sleep in the pram. Not going to
fucking happen, No chance.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
Ruin you for the rest the day.
Speaker 1 (42:45):
Ah, just like that. Two hours is great, just me
and the older two kids. So we walk out, go
to the cafe. We bump into Lex Luth.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
We need to be a bit more specific.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Alexis, I want to shout out to Lex because she's real.
Lu really done me a favor. So she's like, we're
kind of walking back home via the park. Who is
Lex the family friend? Okay, there you go. Sorry, So
I'm like, who the fuck is lap Stop? Like, what
else is going to be? Lex Luther? It is not
Lex Luthor, all right, I don't know now I know that?
(43:21):
So then is it Superman? Yeah? So Superman appears, Thank goodness. Yeah,
he's got kryptonite's isn't he allergic to.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
Let's get back to the store and don't.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Wrap me up. So then I'm walking back home via
the park and Lex is like, I'm also going to
the park and her kids and my kids. They play
along really well. I'm like, this is great, good incidental
bump in hang out, it's the dream And then Poppy,
I can see her in the prem the eyes are
getting real heavy and I'm like, oh fuck. And so
all of a sudden, the ten o'clock sleeper is looking
(43:52):
like it's going to be like a nine forty five,
like a nine thirty seven sleep. I'm panicking.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Time is everything, specific times, every thing.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
My anxiety is just like what, like it's it's peaking and.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
You're not normally an anxious God, I'm no, No, I'm very relaxed.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
I'm very relaxed. But then I'm like, okay, fuck now
I've got to try. And like the kids have got
in their mind the fact that they're having a plate
at the park, and I'm like, I've got to break
the news. I'm like, guys, the park play is not
going to happen. Okay, no park play. And they're like, yeah,
it's like it's like I've just said Christmas is not
gonna happen this year. They're like, what do you fucking
mean you.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Moved the goalpost last minute.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
It's no good. We're hit. But the park is we're
physically here, and I'm like, yeah, but don't fucking take
your shoes off. We're not stopping. We're still going. And
they're like and I look over and Lola was already
like on a swing and like my on the monkey bars,
and I'm like fuck, and I've got Buster and I've
got the PRAM and I'm like, how am I gonna? Okay?
And then at this stage, Laura is gone, She's out
(44:45):
the door, she's running around doing errands, and I'm like,
how am I going to tackle this? This is like,
you know, trying to problem solve, think of my feet.
Lex goes, Hey, Lexi, Lexi goes, I'll take the kids. Wow?
And can I just offered? Can I just say as well?
Lex has got three kids also voter into.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
The primise, so that's how that's outstanding behavior.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
And I'm like, I couldn't leave you with the kids,
and she goes, it's fine. I was like, I'll say
no twice and if she insists, then I'm gonna I'm
gonna drop.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
She says, if you say no, so the first time
you say oh no, it's fine, She's like, okay, fine.
And then I'm like, don't make please please take them, please,
please please move in.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
And she was like no, do you know what? The
kids will play so well together. It's kind of easy
if they're all together anyway, and any issues, I'll just
give you a text. And I was like, still, I
felt very guilty. I did I did. I was like,
are you sure? Are you positive? And she's like yeah,
I get the fuck out of here. It's fun. Then
to top it all off, there's a party being set
up at the park and they've got entertainment. Who's the entertainment?
(45:47):
K pop demon Hunters?
Speaker 2 (45:49):
Oh, like a costume.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
I've got two of them at the part. Mary's like
what the fuck? And guess what, Lex knows the lady's
having the party.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
This is a dream result.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
As I look over Marley and Lola just they're in
the party, I was like, did they get a party bake?
They didn't. But I went home, put Papa to bed,
I message on like how the kids going, like yeah, great,
they're playing past the parcel, what the cut and the cake?
And I was like do you need me to come
down like quickly? You know there moving in with me?
It's fine. Is a perfect result, literally, And then eventually
(46:24):
eventually she's like because she lives just down the road,
She's like, oh, it was just as I swing by,
I can just drop the kids off and come meet
me out the front. And then she dropped the kids
off and then Laura came home and as I had
the kids and she was like, I'm so like, so
sorry be running around all day for the double And
I was like, oh, that's okay. The kid's been pretty good.
And she's like, what have you been doing? What have
you been hanging out?
Speaker 3 (46:44):
Ah?
Speaker 1 (46:44):
I love that you're taking credit for it. Yeah, the
kids had face paint on. We had a great morning.
We're gonna be fine when you're in India.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Look at them.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
They have the best time. And it's all me and
me only. I'm like, there need to be more more
lexes out there. Is she available this weekend? And I
did it the second day as well? Did it with
a dad. What. I bumped into Rich. He's got his
kids the.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
Park and you were like, my kid's gotta go down.
And I was like, all right, girls, we're going to
play it exactly like we did.
Speaker 1 (47:19):
Now, Lola. I needed a freak out and action.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
No, we are not is he looking? Is he looking?
Is he looking? Is he looking?
Speaker 3 (47:26):
No?
Speaker 1 (47:27):
We are not staying? Is he looking?
Speaker 2 (47:31):
Rich had the kids on you. It's that park. I
don't even know who Rich was, and he's like dropping
dropping your kids. So this was a drop and go park.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
It's the best so far. It's pretty easy having no kids,
I would say he's asleep and TV.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
I used to have a nap at that time.
Speaker 1 (47:48):
So I want to say thank to the parents who
have been helping me out.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
Yeah, that's good. It's rare to find people that are
like offer and actually genuinely.
Speaker 1 (47:56):
I don't know if they're going home being like, can
you believe Maddie Ja let me with his kids? They're
on their podcast and a half for two and a
half hours. What a fucking bar. I know they're on their.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
Podcast, Prick, they're on their Podcason, you're not going to
believe this.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
Yeah, that guy, Maddie J.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
He just offloads his kids and people at the park something.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
It's the first time it's ever happened, so called parent
and it just so happened to be the one time
where like Laura is not.
Speaker 2 (48:18):
Here perfect and you take and you took credit. That's
that's something I would do.
Speaker 1 (48:22):
But to the parents out there, we do it more often.
I think I think the village, it's the village.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
Keep going back to that park. That's my advice for you, Matt.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
That's called smart parenting.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Thank you. Now have a segment for other smart parents.
So this segment is where you're write in and tell
us about your parenting hack or you're being a smart parent.
So should we kick off?
Speaker 1 (48:42):
Please you go first.
Speaker 2 (48:43):
This was from Amy, Thank god I can pronounce that one.
We got a robovac useless and told the children it's magic.
He's obsessed with it now, so we're telling him the
robot made it when we cooked dinner, especially veggies, and
he thinks it's amazing and eats it way more.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
I swear I've heard before that parents have said the
robo vac will eat you if you're you're at nighttime.
It goes out looking for naughty kids. That's why, Like
that's traumatic. If it more scary, that.
Speaker 4 (49:14):
Will send your kids straight into your bed.
Speaker 1 (49:16):
Yeah right, so that's I mean, there's as much more wholesome.
That's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
My kids just when it's on, they just can't stop
staring at it.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
It's beautiful, like look at it.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Go. I'm like, you've got a dog that's the same thing,
walks around cleaning up shit off the ground.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
From ella ella, ella ella, and so on and so forth.
Kids keep taking food and holding rubbish in their rooms.
No food in the bedroom. That's my fucking rule, I
tell you that right now, And I.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
Keep finding tiny tea packets in Macy's bed stuck in
the word.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
So I say, you'll end up with a mouse in
your room. Then I continue to show them what a
scary mouse looks like. It terrifies them enough to clean
their room, and once they slip up, make mouse poof
from black food, dye and rice and sprinkle it in
their bed and bedroom and their favorite toys over night.
I funk, this is so good. I can assure you
that there will be no nagging and no arguments to
(50:08):
clean their room. I love how like the commitment, Like yeah,
like the prop department. You become parent who specializes in
props prop making. You become so creative you're there making
individual mouse poos.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
Yeah, I know I've said this before on the pop.
My dad used to say, if I don't put my
dishes away, they'd be he put them in my bed,
and he did he did. Yeah. Yeah, I never did
it again because I got wind get into bed one
cold night and I was like, what the fuck?
Speaker 1 (50:33):
Spaghinny, you got a good name.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
It would be like Apricot chicken.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
I love apricot chicken. Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
Yeah, mummy, I feel like Mum used to make that
on rotation as torch and I thought you're about to
see mummy.
Speaker 6 (50:49):
I was like, Mummy, Caitlin, they did that with a K,
with a k not many. If your kids only want
playing pasta, check crack an egg and mix a few
egg yolks into the pasta while it's still hot on
the stove in the water.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
No, surely not. Come on, ask well, how are you
cooking your past like a cabinara. They put, oh, you
mix it in. They put an egg yolk in the
cab It makes.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
The pasta creamier, you can't taste it. Plus it adds
extra nutrients so you can feel less guilty about plain pasta.
Speaker 1 (51:26):
And then you sprinkle on a bit of protin on
top aprils, just put some chicken breapt on. My kids
did find it.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
I tried to put butter in there the other day
and they're like, what is this.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
You can't find your shoes, but you can find butter.
But surely the kids that's a treat. My kids that
lurpak Oscar's like. Then then want that all right?
Speaker 2 (51:45):
Then you taste it to me?
Speaker 1 (51:48):
A bit of butter on the pasta with a little
bit of salt far out. That's the backbone of parenting.
That's the good stuff. Okay, the fourth one and the
last that we have and also sad news, this is
the last one we'll have for this segment. But Jericha, Jericha, Jericha.
(52:11):
That it's got to be. Where's RNs, R and S
are pretty close together on the keypad. That's gotta be Jessica.
Jess Jessica was like, I don't want I want to
be different. But also if your name is Jerika, beautiful
name as well, like I love, it couldn't possibly be Jericha.
It can't be.
Speaker 2 (52:30):
Look at us it is.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
It's Jericha.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
Okay, this is from Jerika. Eighteen month old won't eat
meat unless it's KFC chicken nuggets. Same. I keep the
bag and get his homemade nuggets out of the KFC
bag for dinner. It works every time.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Genius, My kids have gone off popcorn chicken.
Speaker 4 (52:49):
My kids don't like it. It's too spicy.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
It went spicy.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
What have they done? If Colonel, if you're listening, sponsor us.
Speaker 1 (52:56):
That too, but also take don't stitch up the parents.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Take the spices out of the popcorn chicken.
Speaker 1 (53:03):
I agree, make life easier for us.
Speaker 2 (53:06):
It's like a treat. Waitory, now what am I doing?
Speaker 1 (53:08):
Well? Ash, these parents and all the parents who have submitted. Gosh,
they're smart, aren't they.
Speaker 2 (53:13):
But if you think you're a smart shopper, not just
a smart parent. The boat, the double take, the Aldi
iq test. We're at Man today iq Aldi dot com
dot A. Youan find out if you're a true grocery genius.
Oh not Aldi good different, mister Wicklesworth.
Speaker 1 (53:30):
I forgot. Yeah, that was like I thought i'd come
up with. Like I felt like I'd just written like
my version of the Simpsons. It was that clever. I
was like, this is going to go down so well.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
It's good thinking. But I think I don't know. I
can't remember. I didn't read.
Speaker 1 (53:44):
I feel like you're not one to read packaging. No,
but I feel like you are one to leave a review. No.
And if.
Speaker 2 (53:52):
