Speaker 1 (00:08):
Only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven half am.
We're coming UFNC five. He's the Weston Walker Show. Even
a crowd knows what's coming there.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
It's the last day of ACC kickoff. We are glad
to be here, folks.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
WESN.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Walker Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. We have
more guests coming your way to break down the twenty
twenty five ACC football season. We got a chance to
talk with CJ. Bailey, starting quarterback for NC State. That
is all the rage, and yet it doesn't feel like
we're talking all that much about NC State as a team.
So we had a chance to speak with him. We'll
play that interview a little bit later on in the show.

(00:50):
Kate club Nick set to join us at the very
tail end of Wes and Walker two forty. Expected to
join us around two forty or so, and then also
any Royal, former Virginia Tech wide receiver, former NFL wide receiver.
He'll hop on at one twenty to talk about maybe
some old Orange Bowl performances that he used to play
in all the way back, I guess, and what would
have been two thousand and seven, and also maybe some

(01:12):
NFL playing time for Eddie Royal.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
We want to hear from you as always. Fandual text line.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Former classmate of William Eugene Palaci forget that.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Who do you think was the better football player in
high school? Between Willy P and Eddie Royd?

Speaker 1 (01:24):
And that's a tough one.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I mean, Willie P was a storied edge rusher.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Well, and I was listening today and apparently Willie P
leg pressed four hundred and seventy five pounds or something
like that.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
I don't know if I have any bragging.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
He was bragging in our amazings D little group that
we have about what was it. I think it was
four ninety is what he said. I did on leg press.
So I did that on leg press earlier today, four
seventy on leg press this morning.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Do you use it?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I only caught this by listening to Charlotte Sports today
and then Colin was reading some tech on it, and
the text messages were saying, not all that impressive. Show
me how much you squat, Willie P. Leg press doesn't
impress me. Show me how much you squad. And then
I think you had some meatheads roll in and say
four seventy five. I could do that with one leg
in my sleep. Now, we got some meatheads around here,

(02:17):
you know, like maybe we could figure out with these
football players, we could ask them just how much how
impressive it is that one of our you know voices
around here and try press almost five hundred pounds.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
We will leave them to be the judge of that,
but I have to imagine the man to my right,
Kyle Bayley, gonna be set to do a show at
three o'clock.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Kyle, give me a thumbs up? Is four seventy five?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Like?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Press all that impressive? I figured I knew I was
going to get that. I knew it. I got a
so so from rom Kyle.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Considering that Willie is a guy that you so you
would think based off of his diet, maybe not a
guy that hits the gym all at all.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Oh yeah, let me see this is what I wanted. Okay,
this is the this is the door I went to unlocked.
Now I'm watching Kyle Bailey bench press rep videos and
look at him.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
What is that? That's three three? What three fifteen? Look
at Kyle Codd? Almighty, that's a bench press What a
show off? What show off? Workout there?

Speaker 3 (03:13):
I mean?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
But look, look, Oh, what's hilarious is the two biggest
brutes at the station don't call for regular football. They
are the team for flag football, when actually they need
to be putting on helmets and playing football themselves. But
they are the broadcast team.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Oh, I thought you were talking about I thought you
were talking about Kyle and Mac.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I always think of Mac as a brute, not anymore.
He lost a lot of weight. I was really talking
about him and Church League Fitty was the duo.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Oh of course, of course he was getting his calfs
complimented earlier this morning.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
What's up with Are people just trying to show off
their legs? Yeah, there's only a few.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
People tell you. I Am not trying to show my legs.
Not still hurt, Walker, They still hurt. They still hurt me.
It's like a week and a half later and they
still hurt.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I took one look at that soft size blister and
I was hurting for you.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
It was nasty as nasty can be.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Fandual text line seven oh four five seven oh ninety
six ten, Stay hydrated, says I warm up with four
fifty Lol, just a warm up, Carolina, Mike Billy p
bragging you don't say interesting, Bigcat Dan. He's ready to
go for acc kickoff, he says, Kate and Dabo back
to back, Go Tigers.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Yeah, that's what you can expect.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
So Kate club Nick at two forty with us, and
then Kyle pretty much opening the show with Dabo around
three o'clock. So you're not gonna want to miss the
start of the Kyle Bailey Show as always every weekday
from three to six pm. Let's not waste any more time.
We have Panthers training camp updates to get to. This
is kind of how it goes around here during this time,
especially at the start of the midday. What we're doing

(04:45):
is we're collecting as much audio as possible. I've got
my Joe person Twitter account set up, my Mike k
Twitter account set up, Bashed, Ti, hurt, Sheena quick, everybody
covering the Panthers over there at Bank of America Stadium.
So I got all my tweets. I'm ready to roll.
I'm bringing off the bags off of the bus. Let's
hit it flounder. Let's pull up to the scene.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
We looked good getting off the bus. Helping us out
for the second day.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I can't really do much at the Chandler Volta Studios
while I was saying, let's hit it me and you
here Flounde and then also Shroppy can be the bus
driver back at the Chandler Volta Studios. So let's just
read a few of the Panthers updates. I think the
first thing we need to lead with is that the
whole Princely Uman me Ellen fiasco from yesterday.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
He beat what was a mystery blocker for a long time.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Little birdies got in our ear and said it looked
to be ikey Akwandu, that Princely Umn Meel and yesterday
it was well.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Because because it can it can't be Yoshneiman. It can't
be even Taylor Mowten, a guy that we wouldn't necessarily talk.
It's gotta be Ikey, the guy that's gonna get everything
on the touch line going on.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
That's right, here we go, that's right, that's right. So
Princely yu Man Meellen beat ikey Ikwanu with an inside
move and this time holds off making contact with the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Progress. That was the tweet from Joe Person.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
And then eventually Dave Canalis got to the podium yesterday
or excuse me earlier today and said when he reviewed
the film on the Princely situation yesterday, looked like Princey
was actually trying to hold up Bryce didn't have anywhere
to go, and so that was the update on everything
taking place with the rush from Prince of Yumn Miellen,
So does it again, looks like he's having a nice

(06:30):
couple days at camp first and second day, providing some
pressure on Bryce Young. Perhaps it's the glass half empty approach.
What's going on with ikey Ikwanu. You could take that
route if you wanted to. I'm gonna look at the positives.
I'm gonna look at the bride side and say the
third round pick that the Panthers had a second round
great on that a lot of people wanted, including Smoke.
When he revealed his one and only annual mock draft

(06:53):
heading into the actual selection process. Princely was on that
mock draft. I'm glad that he's performing well. I do
want to say something real quickly, and perhaps this is
a mistake on my part, but we did get some
breaking news about thirty minutes ago, so really just coming in.
Hulk Hogan did pass away around thirty minutes ago. Reportedly

(07:13):
at seventy one years old. TMZ of course the first
to confirm it. Now many other outlets are picking it up. So,
Hulk Hogan passing away at the age of seventy one.
It looked like he passed away due to cardiac arrest.
Now there were some I guess rumors and not outright reports,
but there were some rumors about him having been on

(07:34):
his deathbed for the last month. It did not look
good with some of the issues that he was suffering from.
And then eventually today we have the outright report that
Hull Hogan. Hulk Hogan passes away at seventy one years old.
Certainly a giant in terms of the entertainment industry, not
without his complications with you know, to say the very least,
we need Wes Bryant on these airwaves to break this

(07:56):
down too. We could do a much better job talking
about we've had a show. You know, Yeah, he does
have a show. He's got he's got multiple shows. He's
taking care of his responsibilities for the accix year old network.
He's going to join us in the two o'clock hour
from two to two forty to be specific. But we
need his thoughts on this understanding the wrestling world way
better than I do. But even with me not understanding wrestling,

(08:17):
I understand how much vagiant he is in terms of
the entertainment industry.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
And he's no longer with us.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
I mean truly one of the icons of wrestling, one
of the ones that I know as a guy that
doesn't really follow wrestling.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
And man, this has just been a tough week.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Man.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
I mean you started out with Malcolm Jamal Warner and everything.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
That happened with him.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
Then you get the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, one of
the true legends in rock, and now.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
You know, you finish it out with losing Hule Cogan.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
I mean, yeah, it's just it's a sad It's a
sad day for the entertainment industry and a sad week
for the entertainment industry which has been hit really hard.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Well, I will say this, we got a lot of
people on the text line that aren't all that sad
as you might suggest. They're flounder on the text line.
This is Hulk Cogan, who has had blatantly racist comments
in his past where he has been there are I
don't even want to say complications because it feels like
I'm being afraid of the word.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
To say, the complication.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Some real issues, yeah, some real issues with what hul
Cogan is. And it's not exactly the thing that you
share a lot of times when people pass away, that's
just not the decorum, that's not exactly the way that
people talk about these sort of things. But with hul Cogan,
I imagine that there are going to be a lot
of people that talk about that dark part of what
Hulk Hogan's existence was here on Earth. And now it'll

(09:31):
just be interesting to see how everybody discusses it from
the entertainment standpoint from him being in the ring, while
also discussing what he would talk about how he operated
outside of the ring.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
But again, just some breaking news here.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Within the last thirty minutes this is reported TMZ confirmed
other publications picking it up. Hulk Hogan dead at the
age of seventy one. So we'll go back and forth
and try to provide more faith as some of that
information does come in not the best of transitions, maybe
a little bit of an awkward one. Going back with
some Panthers training camp updates that you can provide your

(10:04):
information on here seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety
six to ten. Again, that's seven oh four five, seven
oh ninety six ten. Yeah, so Prince neumanmuel In providing pressure.
That's real positive. Looked like Jimmy Horn had a highlight today,
made a nice jump catch on an out route that
was a throw for Mandy Dalton. That was his first
highlight of camp. And seven on seven that was a

(10:24):
tweet from Mike k coming in. Lots of kick returners
getting work out there today, Jimmy Horn, Raheem Blackshear, Rico Dowbdell,
Trevor Etn. I would think a lot of the guys
that you would expect to take some of those special
team snaps being some of the returners, which might be
a way that some of these guys just outright make
the roster flounder. What are some of the more interesting

(10:46):
things that you've seen out of training camp today.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Well, I definitely think that the kick returning stuff is
very interesting because you hear Trevor Etn taking taking reps there.
If he ends up performing well, there's a good chance
Raheem Blackshear does not make this roster and that's an
area that we when you go back to blueprint, they
talked about with Trevor etn great returner, that's where he's
gonna make his impact for us.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Same thing with Jimmy Horn.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
You'll love to see that coming out, that he's performing
well not only as a returner but as a receiver.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Because here's the thing you need.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
He's gonna need to show something, right because Sheena Quick
was on earlier this morning with Mack and Bone and
she said that as of right now, she expects that
David Moore is gonna make this roster, being a veteran,
being a guy that plays special teams, he's gonna make
this roster. So I don't know, man, I think you
want to see him sort of flash a little bit

(11:40):
and show some of that potential. Because as we talked about,
Hunter Renfro looked good yesterday.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
So that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
It's gonna be interesting to monitor these wide receivers and
see who really stands out on what day and how
many guys or how many days these guys stand out,
maybe as sort of a tallying mark for who exactly
makes it.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Ros you mentioned Hunter Renfro.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
We actually had a nice connection with Andy Dalton throwing
the football a nice gain in elevens. According to Mike,
k Renfro caught the ball, evaded some defenders after the
catch with what Mike describes as a nifty change of direction.
So this on of Renfro stuff, Man, I don't know
how real this is in terms of how he'll be
able to help the football team this year. Wide receivers

(12:20):
already a pretty deep position for this football team. Maybe
a Hunter can contribute to that, because this is someone
that is a one thousand yard receiver way back when
it has been a while. Of course, he suffered from
ld sort of colitis this offseason, had a day job,
wasn't even in the sport altogether last year. But now
you have guys like Nick Carbony joining Mac and Bone

(12:42):
discussing what he sees from the former Clemson wide out,
saying he's getting in more shape, he's looking better and better.
There was a connection between Hunter Renfro and Bryce yesterday.
Andy Dalton took it up with Hunter today. So if
you're just talking about how many receivers that you'll keep,
clearly you have four guys that are locks in my opinion,
team Adam Thielen, Jalen Cocher, Xavior Lea. Get those are

(13:03):
your four locks. We're not asking any questions about those guys.
Then it gets a little dicey. Now the other guy's
in position to make the team at wide receiver, it
be Jimmy Horn, your sixth round pick that a lot
of people like.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Out of Colorado.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
It would be Hunter Renfro has added one thousand yard
season before, so impressive there. You also have like maybe
even some Jacolbi, George Love. David Moore was on the
team last year.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
David Moore is the one because of his familiarity with
the system, because of his ties to Dave Canalis. Everybody's
gonna forget about David Moore, but you can't because I
think there's a really good chance that he ends up
making this roster. I think you're with me right, they
will keep six receivers. I think there's way too much
talent in that room.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
So I'll ask you a better question.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Okay, because I've seen this thrown around unnecessary bluntness on Twitter.
Who is a great follow great Caroline Panthers podcaster, I
believe dunked on demand And if I'm not mistaken either way,
he said maybe even keep seven, which usually the debate
for wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
I know, so him, I know.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Of them have to be able to do something on
special teams and unfortunately for the last two do Unfortunately
for Hunter Renfro, I don't know that he brings enough.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
To special teams. So I think that's so the last right,
I agree with you. I would think it's going to
be six. And I would think if you do somehow
get into that seven territory, then at least the last
two guys have to be able to return the football.
So if you're going with maybe Jimmy Horn and I
don't know, I mean because even Etn, it might be
somebody that you can just have as a returner and

(14:34):
then that's how you get to your sixth wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, would think so as well, fourth
round pick.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Having some depth out there at the running back position,
I would imagine that's true as well. But wide receiver,
we figured it was going to be the interesting position
to monitor going into this offseason. That has held to
be true for the first two days of Panthers' training camp.
Its once to Walk Roff and Roland Baby Sports rated
ninety two seven. Wf NZ will provide more Panthers training

(15:00):
camp updates we'll also discuss a little more about what
we expect from this ACC season. In twenty twenty five.
Sports Radio ninety two to seven FM westn Walker Sports

(15:21):
Radio ninety two seven at WFNZ. We are live from
the Hillton and uptown Charlotte. Because we have one more
day of ACC Kickoff twenty twenty five to get through.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
We'll be with you until three o'clock.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Kyle Bailey also here today for the last day of
ACC Kickoff. He'll be with you from three to six.
A bunch of guests. CJ. Bailey hops on. We got
him scheduled to be on at I believe what is
it twelve forty five. Let me pull up the rundown again. Yes, yeah,
twelve forty five. CJ can hop on, So just about
twenty minutes from now or so, if you care about
NC State or if you just care about ACC football.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
CJ.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Bailey hopping on at twelve forty five. Kde Klumnik, another quarterback,
we'll talk to you at two forty and then we bring.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Up talk to him.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
What is it is this the third year in a
row we've talked to him, Kay clubnick I.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
It's like we get him every year. We talked to
him two years ago. Okay, that was before Cad became
who he is. He just still had the one game
against North Carolina at that point. Yeah, I think that's
the last time that we talked to him. And you know,
we'll see if a couple of years older, a couple
of years uh wiser kay Klubnick will give us something
to two one with this upcoming interview at two forty.

(16:27):
But it'll be interesting to talk with him with all
of the pressure of a squad that many people are
picking to win the championship, not just the ACC title,
but everybody is picking Clemson to win the championship. And
it does feel like the only question now is who's
gonna finish second? Because I can't imagine I haven't seen
any of the preseason polls come out. I know they
usually drop around this time when all the media members roll,

(16:50):
you know, come in and vote on who they think
is going to be the best team. Can't imagine many
people are picking anybody outside Clemson.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yeah, I mean, it'll be early next week before end
up finding out. They also have limited the amount of
people that are allowed to vote on that, so every
it used to be every year we would get our
ballots to be able to vote. I don't think we're
gonna end up getting those this year, but I will
tell you yes, the question is who is finishing second
in this conference. There is no belief in any of

(17:19):
the teams that are below Clemson that they're gonna be
able to challenge them.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
They shouldn't.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
There shouldn't be that belief because Clemson across the board
is as talented as they've been in a long long well,
I wouldn't say a long long time. It feels like
a long long time here these last few years, but
in a few years. I mean, you're talking about quarterback,
You've got one of the best in the country.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
Even are you with me?

Speaker 3 (17:44):
It doesn't feel like he is really one of the
greatest in the country, like as opposed to in years past.
Like when we've talked about quarterbacks in years past, we've
talked about, Hey, this guy is clearly the best in
the country. Gives you a heisman like Fiel. I just
I'm not there with caid Man. I just I don't
know that I get that heisman type feel from him,

(18:06):
even though he might be the best quarterback in the sport.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I think you probably have put some restrictor plates on
your take about Kate Clubnick, because of what we've already
seen from him, and you've tried this takeout without restrictor
plates before. Right, we see him against North Carolina, he
finally takes over. We're rocking and rolling Kate Clubnick gonna
be the next best thing at QB at Clemson. Going
into two years ago, that just wasn't the case. Then

(18:32):
going into last year, we really weren't talking about Caid
in terms of just understanding and knowing he was gonna
take off. That was a real we were talking about
him a lot. It was a real question. We didn't
know anything could happen. Could he be just a solid QB?
How much better was he going to be than DJ
years And I asked the question, if he struggled, right,
he potentially.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
The bench right.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
And so now going into this year, I think, because
we've already done this before, we might just be holding
off a little bit having understood that. M Okay, you
know we've done this before. So I don't want to
take off completely. I don't want to, you know, hop
on the Kate Club Nick jet Jet, I should say,
but I think that's probably why I still expect him

(19:10):
to be, you know, a top flight QB this year.
And I think maybe an argument for Kide is that
it's not like he was a wow QB last year
and yet still ended up with an impressive record. Clearly
a good season. No Lamar Jackson type style, no Deshaun
Watson even type style. Isn't the prototypical, built in a

(19:33):
lab quarterback that Trevor Lawrence was. And so this is
another reason as to why we speak about him the
way that we do. But we are still in a
space where if I were to ask you, who do
you think the top three quarterbacks off of the NFL
draft board are going to be next year? I imagine most
people would say Kate Clubnick is somewhere in that top three.
Depending on how you feel on Lenora Sellers and some

(19:54):
of these other guys we discussed.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Well, there's guys with a lot of potential, and I
think there's upside. There's there's very boom or bus prospect
capabilities from some of these guys. For example, Leonora Sellers
is a great one. DJ Lagway who can't come out
this year, But that's another one in college football that
a lot of people really really like, but you got

(20:16):
to see does he necessarily break out this year? I
just you know, Kate, I feel like Cave's just a
really solid option for them at quarterback. And I think
now he's shown you that he can win them games. Now,
can you take that next step? Can you become a
guy that wins a game in the College Football Playoff,
maybe wins two games in the College Football Playoff, and
we're getting to the semi finals.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
That's where I think.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
A lot of people expect this roster to be because,
I mean a wide receiver, you're talking about maybe the
best wide receiving corps in the entire country with Bryant
westco TJ. Moore, Antonio Williams. I mean you're talking about
a guy in Tyler Brown, Cole Turner. These are guys
that are backups for this They would be starting at
any other school. They've already put up good production, but

(20:59):
they're backups. Offensive line is as good as it's been
since I can remember.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
There's a big deal. Yeah, which is huge.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
I mean they return four of the five guys there
and the other spot they feel pretty good about. And
then defensively, you return big pieces at every single level.
I think this group is stacked, and I would be
shocked if they don't finish like this would be. We
were shocked a couple of years ago when they ended
up finishing sixth in the conference. If they don't finish

(21:27):
first in the conference, I would be absolutely stunned. Because
you look at Miami, there's questions, you look at SMU,
there's questions on defense.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
There's no questions.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
About Clemson right and the only one that everybody keeps
almost manufacturing is the question at running back. And running
backs matter a lot in college football, except if your
offensive line is as good as it's been. You have
Kate Clubnick, who is a top five quarterback going into
this college football season. The wide receiver position is as
good as it's been since we saw all of the

(21:56):
superstars that they've produced as first round draft picks. You know,
maybe it's okay to not be as talented at running
back as you've been in years past, and that person,
whoever it is, will still have a really successful year
because of all this talent around him defensively as well.
So it just doesn't even matter as much. I don't
want to know Wes somewhere somehow, his running back spidy

(22:17):
senses are tingling Walker's hating on running back again. I
need to get Adam. That's not even really what I mean.
What I mean is if there is a year to
maybe not have as much talent at that spot at Clemson,
this might be the year.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
This might be the one.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Right, everything else sort of covers it up, and I
think with the veteran offensive line, you're hoping that they
will be able to open some lanes for these running backs,
most likely going to be Gideon Davidson, a true freshman
guy that they really like. I mean, we heard that
from Taylor Tannenbaum yesterday when she was with us. Also
heard it from a couple other people that are around

(22:52):
the Clemson program I've seen say that exact same thing.
And then they're converting wide receiver Adam Randall to running
back as well. So they got two guys that maybe
you know, there's we're not talking about them, but there's
definitely potential there for both of those guys, and so
I think the sky is a limit for this.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
A lot of people writing in on the FanDuel text line.
I'll repeat the number here, seven oh four five, seven
oh ninety six ten. So some Clemson people writing in,
like tea time as a Clemson fan, this is by
far the best offensive line we've had in all caps years.
Put all caps on it, he said, really the whole
Dabbo era. Okay, he just keeps going. Then he says, yeah,
running back is really our only big question, but we

(23:31):
are stacked everywhere else. Honestly, this may be the best
secondary we've ever had. Also, Big Cat Dan, you know,
noted Clemson fan also writing in, let's do a weapons
inventory to include Caid's legs a Caid club nick for Heisman. Yeah,
that's something I talked about a lot last year. Really
utilized it right away. NC State is the one that
comes to mind, with that big touchdown run that he

(23:53):
had where he was, if not out running some of
the members in NC State Secondary, at least keep and
even pace between them all the way.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
To the end.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
His legs won them the game against Pittsburgh. If he
doesn't have that huge run, lean into it, Lean into it.
NASCAR Brawl also riding in saying Kate Klubnick is good,
but he reminds me a lot of Taj Boyd. He
can never win the big one. Yeah, I mean that
last part.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
I think that's where I'll be a little hesitant to
continue with the Taj Boyd comparisons. But I do think, Okay,
I like this question. If you were to ask, is
Kay Clubnick closer to Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson or Taj Boyd,
we'd go Taj Boyd.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
Right, I would say, yes, Yeah, he's not. He's closer
to Toime. I feel that.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Yeah, now he's past Kelly Bryant, who did some winning himself.
Oh yeah, completely different QB that they could wait to
bench as soon as Trevor Lawrence was ready to go.
But I would say still Kate is closer to Taj
than he is to Shaun and Trevor, And honestly, like
what a what a great quarterback to be compared to.
And I would still say Cad this year certainly can

(24:58):
surpass if not having already surpassed Tage. Like I, he
probably needs a productive year. If he has a productive
year this season on their way to multiple games, multiple
wins in the College Football Playoff, I think most Clemson
fans would put Kate above Taj on the all time
quarterback list.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Yeah, And I think that's if you're basing it off
of talent. I do think that there is a chance
that that ends up happening this year. Like I said,
I think there is an avenue where you can see
this team make the College Football Playoff, maybe get to
the semi finals. I just don't know when they get
to the semi finals. When you talk about the talent
that Clemson has, how is it going to stack up

(25:34):
against Ohio State, Penn State, Texas, Georgia. How's it going
to stack up against those teams? I really like this team.
I think they're probably guaranteed top ten team in the preseason.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Do I think they're top five?

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Right on this though?

Speaker 1 (25:52):
They're right on the precipice I went, I would probably.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Have them fifth, which means if I have them fifth,
that means that I have them getting to the semi
finals and losing to a team like Ohio State, Penn State,
something like that. I love Texas this year, So that's
kind of the range that I put them in. The
Thing for me is where do expectations sit for Clemson fans?

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Do they think that this is.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
A roster that should have them in the College Football
Playoff semi finals or maybe even the final.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
I think that might be going a little too far.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
I think goal this year for Clemson is pretty simple.
It's championship. That's where they're looking to get. That's the goal.
It doesn't mean that they fail. If they get to
the semi final, top four and then lose, I still
think that would be a successful year. But Clemson's goal
this year they have a talent. They have a roster
with enough talent to win the national championship. It's Wes
and Walker Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ, Flounder

(26:43):
and the co captain chair today for most of the
day from two to two forty that's when Wes will
hope there he is right there.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
There's Wes walking down to get some lunch. Us. Yeah,
there's Wes.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Hey man, he was right next to us waiving looking
for where we were when he was literally two inches
away from you, because we were a little like.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
An invisible zone here, like we people cannot find our table.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
We found this earlier.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
One of the athletic or the sids told us yesterday
we were looking for you, couldn't find you.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Little lost on the sauce around here. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Media row is multiple media rows, and it's kind of
hard to find us, especially with our signage being pretty
low to the ground. Also so when people walk by,
they literally just walked by with us being under their
nose real quickly. A lot of people are asking about
it on the text line. We did have some breaking
news within the hour. If you are just joining us
or if you have not heard yet, wrestling legend Hulk

(27:36):
Hogan has died at seventy one years old. TMC Sports
learned and reported first medics were dispatched to the WWE
icons Clearwater, Florida home early Thursday morning, with operators stating
it was regarding quote, a cardiac arrest. Now TMZ reporting
on this, this is the article that I'm reading. TMZ

(27:56):
was told a slew of police cars and EMTs were
parked outside Hogan's home and he was carried on a
stretcher and into an ambulance. Cops tell the officials responded
to the call at nine point fifty one earlier this morning,
and Hogan was treated by Clearwater Fire and Rescue personnel
before being taken to a nearby hospital. Those are the
latest updates on Hulk Hogan. Wrestling Legend Entertainment Giant had

(28:19):
the classic iconic heel turn from WCW two and woe
and of course has meant so much more to the
wrestling world and also is not without his fault having
said blatantly racist things outside of the ring. And so
depending on how you choose to remember Hulk Cogan, I
would imagine it's going to be a wide range of

(28:39):
how you choose to remember Hulk Hogan. But he has
passed away at the age of seventy one years old
earlier this morning. The wrestling icon is no longer with
us seven oh four to five seven oh ninety six ten.
Let's make enough transition to some Panthers training camp updates.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
We have Dave.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Canalis speaking to media right after a second day at practice.
We're collecting all of the comments Dave Canalis said about
Jimmy Horn. Loves the way he plays football. Everything he
does is fast quote, it's all gas. And then we
saw ikey Ikwanu step up to the podium where ikey
Ikwanu I think has gotten beaten twice by Princely hu

(29:15):
man Meel and we know he got beat earlier today.
That's something that did happen yesterday during the whole Prince
of Hu man Meellen situation where he hit Bryce's arm.
Now Dave goes back and checks the film. It actually
looks like Princely now was avoiding contact with Bryce, but
Bryce didn't have anywhere to go, So it looks like
that situation died down just a little bit. But we
didn't know who the blocker was. He was referred to

(29:37):
as blocker. Now we had Dennis Cox on the scene.
You might know him better as fake Matt Rule. Matt
Fake Matt Rule, not real Matt Rule. Fake Matt Rule
was out at training camp yesterday, and yeah, Dennis thought
it was Ikey who he beat.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
We know Princely beat Ikey today.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
So anyways, Ikey was at the podium and he said
he's letting his agent handle his extension in talks. But
the Charlotte native reiterates he wants to be here in Carolina.
Quote people say it's like home, but this literally is
home for me. End quote. If this is happening for
a second straight day, flounder, where let's just say that
Ikey did get beat by Princely yesterday, have we entered

(30:18):
in somewhat of a problem area now for a guy
that's looking to get an extension. They did not pick
up his fifth year extension or his fifth year option
all that early. I mean we went down to the
wire on when the Panthers decided to pick up his
fifth year option. I would actually say yes, And I
don't want to overreact. I'm not trying to react and
say that Ikey's going to have this terrible year. But

(30:38):
what I'll say is, if they waited all that time
to pick up your fifth year option, you still don't
have an extension. You're a top ten pick, so they
have every reason for you to make it work. They
have every reason for you to make it work, even
with the slightly different front office now Dan Morgan being
the shot collar. I would say, yeah, you know, starting
to raise a little bit of an eyebrow as to

(30:59):
its performance the last couple of days. It's a rookie.
It's a third round rookie. I'm glad Princely is having
this success, but it's a third round rookie. I would
rather have my what I hoped to be franchise left
tackle be successful in the early reps against a third
round rookie.

Speaker 3 (31:12):
Yeah. You just wish that it was not against him today,
like he gets beat potentially yesterday you would like to see, Okay,
maybe he goes to the other side beats Taylor Moden.
Then we're starting to say, oh, this is just princely.
This is just a guy that is showing his past
rush prowess, which we knew was there. We think he's
gonna be a guy that could factor in on third down.

(31:34):
It's the other two downs that we got to figure
out whether or not he's gonna be able to factor
in because he's got.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
To be a better run defender.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
But yeah, I mean, it's it's hard not to be
at least a little bit panicked when you see, Okay,
now this is two straight days where you're getting beat
by a rookie, and you're getting beat by the third
round rookie. It's not even the second round guy, the
guy they had a first round great on Okay, that guy.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Yeah, maybe maybe he gets you a couple of times.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
But the other thing that we have to monitor is,
let's see if there are other guys that are winning
against him as well. Is do we see matched up
against Nick s Gordon and he's getting beat Patrick Jones
getting beat If he's if that's happening too, then it's
time to panic.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
But I mean, yeah, this is a crucial year for him.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
Man, this is the year he has to We've talked
about the guys with the most approved this year. If
Bryce Young is won, then he's right there at number two,
and I think there's a case that he's even ahead
of Bryce Young. He's got to prove that this is
his year, or Carolina has to look somewhere else.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Scott and Belmont writing in on the FanDuel text line,
it's no pads, wait till they start banging. You are
overreacting three three six rights in it's the second day
of camp. Come on, No, I think all of that's fair,
and I'm not trying to overreact so much to the
point where I tell you Ikey ain't it. I'm not
telling you I'm giving up on Ikey being the franchise
left tackle. But I don't know how much you could

(32:56):
dispute the third round rookie getting the better of Vicky
possibly a couple of times, not being a great start
for the guy that had to wait before his fifth
year option was picked up and still does not have
an extension. Because there are legitimate questions about it. It
doesn't mean he's gonna be bad, but I think it's
clearly not a great start. I want to go back
to Scott and Belmont's point though, wait until they start

(33:18):
putting on pads. I actually really understand that point because
it's it's a big brood of a man. Okay, So
if the evaluation on Princely is that it's all about
speed he can beat you on the outside, well maybe
it's because also, Ikey's not trying to push you with
one hand and send you to the ground.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
Right where Princely can shine. So so I hear.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Scott on that, honestly, and that's a good point to
bring up. It's something I should note. So once they
put on the pads, then we can really start to
figure out how's he doing against the rookie drafted in
the second round, rookie drafted in the third overall starters,
So understood, just I don't think you would say, hey,
great start for Icky. Thumbs up on the way that
he's performed against Prince ooh man, Viellen. We'll take a

(34:01):
quick break, we'll come back. We have CJ. Bailey on
the other side, but first we need to send it
to floundg right across the table. For a Mark Spain
real estate sports flash. Hit me flounder, what you got.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
All right?

Speaker 4 (34:17):
Walk?

Speaker 3 (34:17):
And yesterday in the world of baseball we talked about it.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
It was happening on air well.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
The final score for the Braves yesterday was nine to three.
Justin Verlander picks up his first win of the season.
How about this Walker coming into this matchup? He was
ohen seven on or oh to eight excuse me on
the season. He had not won one of his starts
in seventeen consecutive outings, and yet he finds a way

(34:45):
to do it against the Braves nine to three.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
The final score, Uh, Spencer Schreider.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Struggled on the hill a little bit, did allow three runs,
but really it was the bullpen that completely blew up
in the in the fifth inning, starting in the fifth inning,
and then from there just a complete meltdown. So the
Braves dropped to forty four and fifty seven, now thirteen
games under five hundred and creeping closer and closer to

(35:14):
the Washington Nationals, who are at the bottom of the
NL East.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Just again, not the season anyone saw coming.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
And now, yes, you brought up yesterday we turned to
the trade deadline.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
What do they do.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
We're hearing some stuff from Marcelo Zuna. People are saying
Ozzie Albi's could be available as well, so we just
have to wait and see.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
All right, people are mad at me for the Ikyekwanu question.
Maybe we answer some of those questions and just answer
some of those criticisms on the other side of the break.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
But also CJ.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
BAILEYENCI State quarterback hopping on It's Western Walker Sports Radio
ninety two to seven WFNZ. It's Western Walker Sports Radio
ninety two to seven w f NZ. ACC Kickoff Baby,

(36:02):
one more day to go before the session is over,
and we're starting off this Thursday with a great one.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
CJ.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Bailey, Quarterback, NC State, hopping on the mic. Now on
the guest line, CJ, we really appreciate the time, man.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
How are you doing.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
I'm doing great. How are you guys?

Speaker 1 (36:15):
We're doing well? The first ACC kickoff event for you.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
So, how's it feeling for you with you being the
guy like that all eyes around you, baby, how's it feeling?

Speaker 4 (36:23):
That feels good?

Speaker 5 (36:24):
You know, I'm glad to be here and it's kind
of been fun speaking to a lot of guys here
and I just.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
Better than know what I expect. I thought I was
gonna come.

Speaker 5 (36:31):
Here and get you know, all hard questions and you know,
but it was really fun.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
It's really They asked some fun questions. I hope you
guys do the same.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Well, I mean, now I need to know what's the
best question you've been asked so far? Like, what's some
of the fun conversations you've had?

Speaker 5 (36:45):
Actually they asked about what I had. One they asked
about my time at.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
The MENI Camp, which I gave him a fun experience
on that.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
One right now, Well, well let's let's just okay.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Look, I'm not usually supposed to do this, but I'm
about to steal their concept. I was going to ask
about the Manning Passing Academy as well, because I saw
the pick with you in Peyton. Yeah, that's really cool.
How was the pick? How was the whole experience up
there with Tate?

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Yeah, it was great.

Speaker 5 (37:06):
It was a great feeling to you know, get first, first,
first and foremost.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Is to have a good time with those high schoolers.

Speaker 5 (37:12):
You know, give him a good time and you know,
have a seven on seven and you know we went undefeated.
Our team we never loved, we didn't it was a game.
You know, it's a lot of teams out there, but
it was really important to me. Peyton Mann and Eli
Manning and my highlight up the camp was meet and
John coach Coach Gruden.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
I saw him take a pick with Haines King too.
He was there given the blessing to everybody.

Speaker 5 (37:32):
It seemed like he dropped a lot of gems on
me when the last thing he said to me before
I left was he was rooting for me, and it
meant the lot.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
It was out of body experience from there.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
I so again I asked the Haines King who joined
us yesterday about getting the John Gruden stamp of approval.
So what does it mean to you to get that
stamp of approval that he's rooting for you?

Speaker 1 (37:50):
What does that mean to you?

Speaker 5 (37:51):
It means a lot, you know, Like I said, it's
a odd of audio experience. If I felt good, he
told me take his number down if I want to
get on the show one time.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
So I'm ready. I'm ready.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
I got So look now, all right, CJ.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
We need to bring back Gruden QB camp and we
need to see you on the whiteboard drawing up plays,
you going over film with Gruden. I need to see
that in my life. So again, you're making me a
bad interviewer to be honest with you, because now I'm
stealing content. I'm going over some of the other things
you talked about, but you're giving good answers, so I
want to steal it. Another question I asked Haynes was
if Spider two why Banana is John Gruden's like favorite play?

Speaker 1 (38:24):
What is the Spider two? Why Banana? For CJ. Bailey?
What does that play for you?

Speaker 4 (38:28):
What's my favorite play?

Speaker 1 (38:29):
What's your favorite play? Somebody?

Speaker 2 (38:30):
If you have the power at the line of scrimmage,
this is what we're drawing up in a gotta have
it situation?

Speaker 1 (38:36):
What player are you drawing out?

Speaker 5 (38:37):
Well, this is a passive concept. It's really up and
undergot answers everywhere. I don't want to say to play.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
Name, yeah for sure, don't don't give us too much.
I do want to hear a little bit about it.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Really attacked for it.

Speaker 5 (38:46):
It's like it's attacked for verticals, but it also got
up and unders underneath.

Speaker 4 (38:50):
So it is a really great play on my head.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
All right, So not giving too much away. So North
Carolina fans can't steal it. But you know, we do
know how CJ gets down and CJ Bailey NC State
quarterback joining iss here on Wes and Walker.

Speaker 1 (39:02):
CJ.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
Different year for you, right, last year it's supposed to
be Grace McCall's team. They go after him and with
the intent to start at quarterback. That didn't last very
long because of injuries. But also you come in and
you're not giving that job away because of how well
you played. What's it like for you now this offseason
knowing you're going into this year this is my team
and there's no questions about it.

Speaker 4 (39:21):
Yeah, it's just really different. It's a different offseason for me.

Speaker 5 (39:25):
No, I could be I could do way more what
I wanted to do last year, way more than what
I wanted to do last year, which is where be
more leader and be more vocal. And the last year
I was kind of sit back and let and Grayson
take the take the lead.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
And you know it was great.

Speaker 5 (39:37):
I learned from Grayson, you dropped. He had a lot
of things that I learned from, you know, like every
day bring be the same person every day and stuff
like that. And you know, I just learned a lot
from Grayson, which is going to help me just this
season with the team this offseason.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
So yeah, did you feel limited, because that's interesting to
hear you say that. It's like I want to be
the leader, but also I know that's supposed to be
his squad right now. So now as soon as you
step into it, do you feel like the shackles are off,
so to speak, so you can be a leader?

Speaker 5 (40:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
Yeah, it's kind of like that.

Speaker 5 (40:06):
Like if you if you was to ask any any
quarterback that's like a backup quarterback.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
They'll understand what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
It's like he's the he's the guy, so we have
to We can't step on his toes, you know what
I mean. I couldn't step on his toes because and
also I was a freshman, so I couldn't do that,
you know.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
But this year is definitely it's all that for me.
I can.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
I think people would say he didn't play like a
typical freshman.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
C J. Bailey starting quarterback for NC. He stayed joining
us here on Weston Walker. You discussed your close relationship
a lot with now offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, who before
was on staff but got elevated to that offensive coordinator spot.
What does that mean to you being able to work
with him and him be the play caller for you
this year?

Speaker 5 (40:42):
Yeah, it meant the lot that coach Roper had that job.
When he got up, I was so excited and you know,
I'll give him a call, and you know he was
he was ready to be my coach, you know, and
you know that it was great that he was. He's
an officer coordinator because he understands me, because he's still
is also the quarterback coach. He knows what I like.
I know what he likes and you know when it
when it comes down to the wire. And we had

(41:03):
those plays in practice already in the spring where we
had had the you know, two point conversion or something
like that.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
We went through situations.

Speaker 5 (41:10):
He asked me what I want and I told him
what I wanted and we did it and execute it.
So it's spent time already and we didn't even get
to the season yet.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
How much thought went into possibly transferring where it's all
the rage in this day and age, and if there
was any thought, how much of Roper's elevation to OC
went into you coming back?

Speaker 5 (41:27):
Yeah, So it was not even much of a thought
to leave because I was coach roper all day and
the coach coach doing all day, so it was it
was really a second guest for me right there.

Speaker 4 (41:37):
I know I wanted to be, which was in c State.

Speaker 5 (41:39):
I already had the starting job, already have the fans
with me, I always have my coach, and I always
had the team, so I had nowhere to go.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
I want to be at Anti.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
State and that's why DJ Bailey starting quarterback for NCI State,
joining us here on West and Walker. All Right, so CJ,
you're playing North Carolina this upcoming season, you seed up
against the Heels. You see Bill Belichick on the other sideline,
do you anticipate hate any different feeling than when he
saw Mac Brown last year when you see any other coach?

Speaker 1 (42:04):
Or is it all ball and you're ready to go?

Speaker 4 (42:06):
Yeah, That's what I was gonna say. Is it's all ball.
It's nothing different.

Speaker 5 (42:09):
You know, we all just here to play football, and
you know, just prepare for the weekend.

Speaker 4 (42:13):
You're gonna be fine.

Speaker 5 (42:14):
It's nothing nothing to it is nothing personal or nothing.
So when you step out there, you just play well.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
Would would coach Doran be okay with you saying that?
Because it feels like coach Doran does take it personal
when you guys play against Carolina. He's always saying something,
Yeah every year.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
It feels like, I feel like you want to have
a problem with me, Sam.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Yeah, you know, It's just it's always interesting to see
Dave Doran get hyped up for it because that's the rival.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
Baby, That's just what it is.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
And so I'm gonna go back to last year's game,
just kind of looking back at how you performed. That
passed to Noel Rogers for forty yards? Is that your
favorite play from last year or do you go to
a different one.

Speaker 4 (42:49):
I think it is my favorite play. It was outstanding.
I think it's his favorite play, of course, sure it is.
It is.

Speaker 5 (42:54):
Yeah, it was the play no that same was from
that that that hate that was going to get from
that game because I feel like, if if things would
have went went a different direction, North Carolina would have
had bragging rights on this. And yeah, we don't.

Speaker 4 (43:08):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (43:09):
I don't like that, of course you don't, But that
Dad play is definitely a memorable play for me.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
All right, So here take us inside the huddle, man, Like,
what's your message? Where now, as you mentioned, you get
to lead this team. This is your squad now, and
you're under two minutes. North Carolina's up one thirty to
twenty nine. After that touchdown, you got a minute and
fifty left. Man, there's not much. So what's that moment, Like,
what's the message to your team and how you're operating?

Speaker 4 (43:33):
You know, like we had.

Speaker 5 (43:34):
We had a lot of moments like that last year,
and one moment I could think about was Georgia Tech,
And you know, I pretty much said the same thing
to those guys and we had at the end of
those games was we're gonna go down and score. Trust me,
Like if it was in the time, it's gonna be
right now. So I always tell those guys, man, don't
look left, don't look right, look at me, because I
got this and I know y'all got me.

Speaker 4 (43:56):
So we go go down there and score, and you know,
we go get this win.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
See, yeah, it's kind of a line. I'm not gonna
lie to you. Don't look left. Use that again because
it worked.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
CJ Bailey, NC State starting quarterback, joining us here at
ACC kickoff live from the Hilton in Uptown Charlotte.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
CJ.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
This was great, man, Thank you so much for the time.
Thank you for much this upcoming seasons. Good stuff from
a guy that a lot of people are excited about,
including the guy across the table from me, Anthony Plenter Pacna.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Can't wait to see CJ.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
Bailey just reekh it on the conference this upcoming season.

Speaker 1 (44:28):
We'll take a quick break, we'll come back.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
We've got plenty more to get to here at ACC
kickoff Campus Corner. We're gonna actually bring you that at
two o'clock because that's when Wes can hop back on
the mic, and we don't want to do a UNC
team week slash Campus Kona without our guy Wes, So
that will be at two o'clock. Coming up next though,
I'll answer some of those angry texts about me overreacting
ikey Ikwanu allowing some pressures to Prince of U Mambiellen
