Good morning, morning.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Joe, good morning. How are you.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I gotta say I'm great and a longtime fan. Obviously
all of us on the show are You've been on
with us before, But I'm excited for this show.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
When they announced the.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Show at the Casino Ballroom, Joe Perry and Friends, and
and then I read the list of who's going to
be along with you, it's like just you know, from
a New England guy, man, what a night this is
gonna be.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
You gotta be excited for.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
This, well, you know it's been. I wish I could
have done more shows when the record first came out,
but I literally went from that that one show here
in La at the Roxy. The next day it came
into the studio, sat working on the Hollywood Vampires record.
So and I knew we'd be doing some gigs down
the road to try and support the record. But when
(02:47):
these dates came in, what Paul got? These dates? I got?
I mean, this is great empton Beach Casino and uh,
I mean just playing New England. I'm psyched, man, this
is gonna be great. You got to get them, of course,
going you guys are supposed to ask the question.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
No, I was gonna say.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
I you got Gary obviously from Extreme Brad's gonna be
with you. That's great, you know, and then you got
Charlie's gonna be on the bill, and Barry goodrou from
like I said, from a New England perspective, it's a
it's an all star New England show. And I think
I think it's gonna be a great night at the
Casino Ballroom. By the way, tickets are go on sale
today at ten o'clock and at Casino Ballroom dot com.
(03:25):
And the show is coming up on April nineteen. Joe
Perry on the phone, this go ahead, road kill now.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Joe, and you've been doing it as long as you have.
How do you decide? And friends? I mean, you must
know what a million drugs? How do your friends? Did
you leave out? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Well, you know, I've been doing a bunch of like
one off shows, and again, like with the solo records,
a lot of friends that live out here in la
and a lot of friends are on the road, and
they came by and stopped in. So that's how that
record went. But without having like a definite tour. You know,
I've got good buddies everywhere, you know, And so you know,
(03:59):
my first call was to David Hall because he's you know,
he's he played on the first two solo records and
toured with me, and and then and Brad's done a
bunch of gigs with me, and also we work together
in that other band. And then unfortunately he's opened and
it's we want to bring the best band to the
(04:20):
stage that we can, you know, and uh and Gary
Uh saying on one of the tunes off the on
my solo record, it's going to be on the vinyl
and it's killer and we've played out here and just
one of those those things. It just kind of kind
of builds up I wouldn't have been able to count
on this a month ago, but yeah, it's here and
we're putting the tickets on sale, and I hope, I
(04:42):
hope people will come come by because we're going to
have We're gonna have a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
I know that Joe's new CD that he's talking about
is called the Sweetzerland Manifesto.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
He's got a lot of special guests on it.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
I got to say that I was I was listening
to the tune you did with Robin Xander from Cheap Trick.
I I I it's got this real kind of gritty fifties,
you know, dirty rock and roll kind of kind of
feel to it. And you've always been about, you know,
the raw, real like classic rock sound kind of thing, right,
because it really comes through on the record.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I'd like to I'd like to think, so, you know,
I mean, that's that's what I like to think i'd
bring to Aerosmith and now, and you know, of course
when I'm doing my solo stuff, that's kind of going
to show through obviously. But I have to say Robin
was the one that called me and said I got
this riff, you know, And I really think that it's
something that you and I should do together.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
You know.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
He just kept you know, he had the basic chorus,
and you know, he just said, this is this is
right up Joe's alley. Yeah, you know, and this is
what he told me, and that I heard it over
the phone. He's saying it to me, and I said, well,
come on up, man, and we'll work on it. And
sure enough it worked out.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Joe, speak to speak to how it feels when you're
a part of a legendary band like Aerosmith, And obviously
it's it's such a huge part of your life and
you're on that team for so long. When you get
to sort of, you know, step out of that box
and then do your own thing, you know, I got
to imagine it's it's liberating and rewarding in a way
that's different than Aerosmith. Not not no criticism in the Airsmith
(06:13):
obviously one of the best bands ever.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
But just speak to.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
How it it feels different for you to do this.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Well, pretty much, I get to like play stuff without
having having to run it by everybody, and uh but
I certainly you know, play it for everybody when I'm
working on it. Whatever it is, whether you know but
at different times in my life. That's what these records are.
They kind of reflect what's going on. I mean, the
first couple of records were more introspective. The lyrics I wrote,
(06:42):
all that, all that stuff, and yeah, so the second
or third were just to get out there and play.
I just wanted to get in the van and go
and uh you know, and that band was that was great.
And then the last two or three of like the
Red record, that was again that was very introspective. But
(07:03):
being out here I got to play with a lot
of guys that helped. When they when they tow down
their vocals, it was like it was a different, different thing.
You know. I got you got to play the riffs,
and I got to uh drive the car, but I
like over the steering wheel a lot. You know.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
That was a fun, right, I got it.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
You've also been doing like obviously with the with the
Vampire Diaries and and Johnny Depp.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Vampire Dill. It's early. Well, you know, you've been working
a lot with Johnny. That's how where you are, I guess.
But I mean you've been.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Working a lot with Johnny Depp, So I mean, how
how's he to work with as a songwriter.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
I can't say enough about it because you know, so
many people they don't realize what a what a great
guitar player he is. And you know, he's he loves music.
He loves loves the blues, he loves all the you know,
all the stuff that that you would you would expect
from a guy who's been a musician all his life,
you know. And you know what, I've never met an
(08:02):
actor up here at his house.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
I've never met an actor. Musicians left and right, they're
coming through, you know. Uh. You know, he's best friends
with with Marilyn Manson, and I mean, just go down
the list. I mean, but you never see. All I
know is is sometimes he takes off at six in
the morning and he's gone until ten o'clock at night
doing his day job. And you know he loves doing that.
(08:28):
But his heart is in the music. And and and
to answer your question, he's he's got a really good
twist on things, you know, like the odd note. Uh,
they can they can change actually the whole the vibe
of the song. He writes a lot of the lyrics.
He's really uh, he really comes through some great stuff.
It's a riot because I watched the audience and at
(08:50):
first it's like, Wow, that's Johnny Depp. But then when
they hear how video is the whole, the whole thing changes.
So anyway, the music speaks for itself. But he's really
really creative, and you know, his being here at his
studio has been a really a great change for me.
You know, from that point of view.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
I'm exced.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
I'm excited where Joe Perry of course coming to Joe
Perry and Friends coming to the Casino baram on April nineteen.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Tickets going sales today at ten o'clock. It's going to
be a great show.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Last question, because I know we got a limited amount
of time. Joe, was there one musician And I know
we haven't really asked any aerosmith questions. I don't know
what there is to ask other than you know, when
and if it happens, it will happen.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
You know, you've been in this kind.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Of situation before, but you historically, was there one musician
Joe that changed your life ever? Whether you were young
or whether you were older, Was there one musician ever
that changed your musical life or.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Life There's actually one person that recently and I can't
actually most mighty be both there, but yeah, He's there
was a big influence on my playing. But I have
to say that, and I was just thinking about this
a couple of days ago, but I've been a fan
of Jeff Beck's ever since his first band, you know,
(10:06):
with Rod Stewart and follow him, you know what he did,
and and it ultimately got to be friends with him
and stuff, and so in a way, you know, actually
the first time I heard him play, you know, that
was that was a big influence. I would say that
was a turning point. But over the years it's you know,
I'm just kind of kept in touch with what he's
(10:28):
doing and you know, but there are influences all over
the place other artists. I think that, hey, listen reading Hemingway.
Some of the stuff that that I missed by not
going to college had a big influence on on my
my guitar playing a few years ago. I don't know
if that, you know, makes any sense a writer, but uh,
(10:49):
but as as an artist, you know, I picked up
a lot there. But uh, anyway, yeah, I would say Jeff,
of all the guitar players that have heard, has has
you know he really like with a learning point, and
there's constantly been an influence and.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
I would they I would they would shoot me if
I didn't ask. But I mean for for Aerosmith fans,
is there anything on the schedule, you know, down the.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Road for you?
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Is it all kind of a or is it all
kind of as it has been from time to time,
a wait and see kind of thing?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Well, Uh, we're actually talking talking with Steven the last
week and about about our plans, and uh, I think
that we're gonna, uh you know, when we start touring again.
I think that we want to make it again as
good as we can, and talking about working on some
new music. So it's you know, like, yeah, we're going
(11:39):
to get out there again pretty soon. Actually yeah, but
we don't have any exact dates yet. Uh.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
The question I asked you about the album that changed
your life, I just wanted you to know as we
wrap up here, that Get Your Wings was mine. So really,
I might not be I might not be a musician,
but man, that turned me onto rock music and uh
never looked back way back then. So thank you very
much for that. Really want to appreciate you coming on
with us this morning. Looking forward to seeing you coming
up on the nineteen.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Well, thanks a lot. I really appreciate it, and I
hope the Roads of Cloud the pictures have been pretty
pretty uh. I mean I love I love the snow,
as you know, and uh, and I missed being there
for the storms, but I bet you guys are pretty
tired of it now.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Twenty twenty five inches was way more than I needed.
I'll be honest, that was way more than I need.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
I can't believe that I saw the Billy and I
when we were looking at the pictures were got oh
my god. Anyway, good luck, story warm and uh and
we'll be there and we'll we'll keep things up for you,
all right. I got to say, Brad coming in, I'm
really psyched about about playing with him, and uh because
(12:52):
you know he played played with the Joe Perry Project
yep on on a bunch of shows. So this is
going to be good. And I and Gary and David
on the whole bunch. Man, this is going to be great.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
April, you got it, Joe, great, Thank you very much, man.
I appreciate it. We'll see on the nineteenth. Joe, take
care all right, thanks by bye ya. You know did
you catch that can? I can I just back up
for a second.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yes, you caught it right when I said, you know,
can tell me the musician that changed your life? In
my opinion, that answer was going to be Steven, but
he didn't want it. Yeah, he didn't want to get
into it.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
But also I like that he said that they just
talked to Stephen last week and when they get arrows
went back together.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
But you know, it's funny because the longer we we
do this, it look look like take Peter Wolf for instance.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
You know that band doesn't get along. They don't get along.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
And look, they were married more than married for what
thirty five to forty years? Same thing with Aerosmith, right,
And it's just natural to not want to let you know,
Oh I.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Know, do they love each other ioid every moment. I'm
not saying that you did. But we've had our ups,
we've had our down absolutely, But I don't, you know.
I Look, they'll get together and they'll play again. There's
no press. It's just a matter of the magic that
they make together. I'm not yet, I'm not I'm not
the guy.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
I'm not want to stir up crap between him, trying
to get him, to trap him into saying something or anything.
I don't want to do that to Steven or anybody else.
That's you know, that's just wasted negative energy. But yeah,
so go see him solo. That's gonna be a great night.
I can't wait for that show. Tickets on sale ten
am at te Casino Ballroom dot com.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
All right, everybody's pretty cool. That's good. That's a great
way to start a Friday.

the fame guys. Yeah, tomorrow we are at mits Vegas
Bar and girls say Patty's Day eight to noon.
