I över 30 år var besöksmålet känt som Järvzoo, men 2023 tog det ett nytt namn: Vildriket. Ursprungligen startades projektet på 80-talet för att rädda Järvsö från glesbygdens utmaningar. Men detta är mer än bara ett namnbyte – det markerar en djupare satsning på hållbarhet, med särskilt fokus på att engagera näringslivet.
Jens Larsson har varit VD för Vildriket i 12 år, och nu intensifieras ansträngningarna för att fler ska inse behovet av en förändringsresa, där vi återfinner harmonin med miljö och natur. Vildriket bedriver omfattande bevarandearbete och forskning, och hittills har de bidragit med 60 miljoner kronor till forskning.
En av Vildrikets stoltheter är skogsvildrenen, en art som länge varit utdöd i Finland, men som man nu hoppas kunna återintroducera. Varje år lockar Vildriket 80 000 besökare, och Jens Larssons mål är att de ska lämna platsen med ökad kunskap om hur vi kan ställa om våra liv och skapa en bättre värld.
