در پیشینه اقتصادی ایران و ژاپن و البته بسیاری از کشورهای دیگر با وضعیت مشابه نقطه مشترکی وجود دارد و آن اینکه در رویارویی با غرب پیشرفته و در حال رشد متوجه شدند که از صف توسعه عقب مانده‌اند.
اما باقی ماندن در این وضعیت برای ژاپن زیاد طول نکشید، همکاری قوی بین دولت و صنعت به همراه دانش فنی پیشرفته، اقتصاد ژاپن را به یکی از بزرگترین اقتصادهای جهان تبدیل کرد. ایران اما هرچه در این دویست سال دوید در رسیدن به قطار توسعه، موفقیت چندانی کسب نکرد.
مسیر توسعه مختص ایران چیست و چطور می‌توان آن را پیدا کرد؟ آیا فرمول مشخصی برای دستیابی به توسعه وجود دارد؟ و چگونه می‌توان در این راه به خوبی از تجربه سایر کشورها استفاده کرد؟
