She told her mother she hated her and wished she was dead.

She died the next day.

For years, that moment fueled her addiction until sobriety helped her heal.

Regina H. grew up in a loving but alcoholic home where fear, chaos, and uncertainty were part of everyday life. By age eleven she was using drugs, and by fifteen she was drinking alcoholically. What followed was a lifetime of searching for something she never felt she had: a safe place to call home.

After the death of her mother, Regina's life spiraled through abusive relationships, addiction, arrests, jail, and unimaginable grief. Haunted by guilt and convinced she wanted to die, she found herself at a crossroads when a woman named Tammy refused to stop reaching out.

With nowhere left to run, she entered a sober living home and gave recovery one last chance.

In this powerful episode of The Cup of Joe Show, Regina shares how sponsorship, the Twelve Steps, and a willingness to face the truth transformed her life. She opens up about the letters she wrote to her mother, her father, and God, and how that simple act became the beginning of profound healing.

Steps 1, 2, and 3 may get us sober. Steps 10, 11, and 12 may keep us sober. But as she says, Steps 4 through 9 are where we grow up.

This is a story of forgiveness, healing, and becoming the person you were always meant to be.
