Speaker 2 (00:47):
Eddie, you've been on a roll.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
You've been perfect on your first fifteen field goal attempts,
tying a forty nine Ers record. How does it feel
just to come into a new team and make that
immediate kind of impact.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
It feels great. Just being part of the team's been awesome.
Getting a lot of support from the guys that has
been super important. Coaching staff these guys are blocking their
butts off. You see, there's a lot of blocked field
goals in the NFL right now going around. So, I mean,
these guys are just putting in the time and the work.
So I'm super blessed to have them on my side.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
That's awesome. You hit a career best a fifty nine
yard or in LA.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Just tell me about your confidence coming into a new
team and how you're feeling right now.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Yeah, I mean, confidence feels awesome, It feels high.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I mean, yeah, I knew it was an important kick,
and you know, you don't want to let these guys down.
And you see them there on the you know, on
the sidelines, just you know, working their butt off.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
So that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, that's swe All right, let's get to know more
about Eddie. I knew you grew up in Miami, the
son of Cuban and you got a Wednesday parents. What's
life in Miami like?

Speaker 4 (01:45):
As a kid, life in Miami was great.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
I went to Miami Sunset Senior High School, ended up
going to the University of Florida. But you know, the
Miami culture is a little bit different. You know, I
was surrounded by a lot of Hispanics.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
All so your first love was soccer because your dad
was a professional soccer player. Was he the one that
inspired your love for sports?

Speaker 4 (02:06):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yes, my dad was definitely a big influence in my life.
And you know, he told he you know, he told me, listen,
let's let's try this football thing. Because I actually a
lot of people don't know this, but you know, I
quit football twice before I took it serious. So in
high school, I played like two games and I was like, okay, no,
I quit, like I don't want to play football. And
then I wanted to keep playing soccer. And then I
went to junior college and it was kind of like

(02:28):
the same situation. The junior college coach was like, hey,
we need a kicker, like you have a strong leg,
come help us out. I was like, all right, cool,
So I went out and I played one game with them,
and then I told my dad, now i quit, like
I'm done, like I don't I don't want to play football.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
I want to concentrate in soccer.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
And then and then you know, my dad was just like, hey, listen,
let's go to one camp and if you get a
scholarship offer, then you'll take it serious.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
If not, you quit forever.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
You've already quit twice, Like I was like, okay, So
I went to Alabama and went to their camp and
ended up getting a full scholarship and then that's when
everything changed.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Let's sweet.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
I think you must have a really close relationship with
your dad. Does it help that he's a professional sports
player and so he's able to pick up on the
intricacies of your game and he's able to push you
in very specific ways.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Absolutely, My dad is definitely like my trainer.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
You know, he's set me through my workouts with kicking
and having his mindset and the way that he you know,
I grew up and the way that he would you know,
motivate me is just unmatched. And you know that was
a big that's a big uh, A big part of
my success was my dad for sure.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
I've also heard if I heard the story correctly, one
of the big motivators for you why you switched over
from soccer to football is that you wanted to help
your family financially and you're getting a lot of big
opportunities with football. When was that moment when you realized
you were living that dream and that dream was becoming
real for you.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
That moment definitely happened my last year at the University
of Florida, when I knew I had a good shot,
you know how all these agents approaching me like, hey,
you know, you want to kick at the next level,
and obviously that was my goal.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
But yeah, I mean it was tough for me and
my family.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
You know, when I told my parents I'm done playing soccer,
I mean, it kind of hurts my dad a little
bit because I know he wanted me to be a
pro soccer player like him, you know.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
But you know, the reason.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Obviously I took football over over soccer was obviously to
you know, help my parents financially and get them a
house and get them a car, and get them stuff
that they've never had in this life.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
So that was my goal.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Are your parents' car set, house set, everything.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Fir set. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
I bought him a house right next to mine and
they literally live two houses down.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
And yeah, it's been a blessing. I thank God every day.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Oh, praise God. That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
The World Cup is coming to Levi Stadium. Do you
still follow soccer? Are there any teams or players that
you're still close to?

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Fans of not as much as I used to.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
I'm just so focused on football now, but obviously it's
going to be fun to watch it.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
So yeah. Now the World Cup coming to levi is
will you be there?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Sure? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, sounds fun, right, It's like once in a lifetime.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I would love to be there. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
This also isn't your first time in the Bay Area.
When you first entered the NFL, you joined the Oakland Raiders,
So tell me what's it like joining a Bay Area again.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Were you happy to come back?

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Super happy? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, I mean I started my career here eight years
ago with the Raiders.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
I'm happy to be back.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
I mean, I mean this this is the weather is amazing,
the fan base is amazing. I mean they have the
best fans in the world compared to every team I've played,
and I mean it's just super supportive, and you know,
and it's a big Hispanic community here, which makes me
feel at home.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
I feel like I'm in Miami again.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
So yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
You've seen a lot of places throughout your journey within
the NFL.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Tell me the story.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
You've told it a few times, but when you decided
to become.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
A member of the San Francisco forty nine ers.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Yeah, you know, I was supposed to get on a fly.
I was on the way to the airport to sign
with the Falcons before I got here, and the forty
nine ers called my agent and say, hey, listen, you know,
don't you know, don't sign that. You know, we want you,
we need you here, and you know, I made that
decision with my agent and we just sat back and
you know, I didn't get on the flight, and the

(05:58):
next morning I missed that flight, and then the next
morning I just came over here and you know, everything
else was history.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
So so you were literally in the airport and you
turn you around, Yes, you called it. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
I was like, hey, listen, this is going to be
good for my career.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
And you know, they, you know, they had a lot
of support in me that, hey, we want you to
be the guy, and you know, I just I just
felt that like the love that they had for me
since the beginning.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
You know, I was just like, no, this is this
is where I'm meant to be.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
So now that you're in the San Francisco Bay area,
what's it like getting to know the players, the coaches,
the staff.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
How would you describe the culture here amazing.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
I mean, the best staff I've been around in the
last couple of years. They're just so supportive. They want
you to they just want you to win. They want
you to, you know, do the right thing. Yeah, the
support system here is just it's amazing.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
It's amazing.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Yeah, you also mentioned that you love having the Latino
community here in the Bay Area. I know you represent
Nikadawa very well as the first Nick Got a Wednesday
player in the NFL, also Cuba. What kind of messages
do you get from fans, either back home or here
in the Bay.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
I get a lot of messages definitely back home, but
you're a lot more from from Nicadawens fans and Cubans,
and you know, they're just super supportive. Like wow, Like
we have an Nica and a Cuban in the NFL,
and you know, just having that support I just, like
I said, I just feel like I'm back home.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
I feel like I'm in Miami.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
And you know, even playing in the stadium, I can
you know, you can hear, you can hear the crowd
a lot of Hispanics, you know, trying to talk in Spanish,
and I'm just like wow, so it's it's it's awesome,
like it's just it's just cool.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
It's cool. It's cool to have.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
So it feels a little bit like home.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
It feels like home.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, that's awesome. All right, are you ready to play
a little game.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Let's do it.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Let's do all right. This game is called through the Uprights.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
I'm going to give you a few short prompts and
you're going to send it through the uprights by finishing
my sentence.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Are you ready?

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Awesome. My teammates would describe me as Hispanic everything. It's
just everything. The most underrated part of being a kicker is.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Probably the pressure.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
My pregame ritual is hearing.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
The gospel music, Christian music.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
I love it. Do you have a favorite song?

Speaker 4 (08:05):
I listened to Hills song a lot Oceans.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Yeah, very mellow. I love it. Gives you that piece,
it gives me a piece. The teammate who hypes me
up the most.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Is George Kittle.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
I love it. He's awesome. My favorite Niicotas food.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Is the Hausas. I have a couple.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
They have us over any other platinums you like, I like,
I love it.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
My favorite Cuban food is Cuban food.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Wow, it's a good one. There's so many.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
There's so many good probably like I don't know, like
free hold Is is good too, But Nikada Went says
they do it good as well. They're both really good.
Maybe some I don't know, like some.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
By Steady. I'm gonna say I love it.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
That's the one the super Bowl halftime show. Bad Bunny,
My favorite Bad Bunny song.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
Is for me. It's in Miami.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Very good.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Also, you got to give love to the Homeland. The
teammate I trust to make a fifty yarder.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Is I don't know if there's any guys that kick
on the team, but I'm gonna go with like lower
body strength, We'll go with Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Christian, he's doing it all receiver running.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
I wouldn't be surprised if you can kick as well.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
People would be surprised to know that. I m hmm.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
That I have a bunch of tattoos.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Tell me about them. Do you have a favorite?

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Yeah, I got like my whole stomach and chest done. Yeah,
I got a couple of tattoos.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
When was your your first tattoo? How old were you.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
First tattoo was sixteen years old.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Did your parents know?

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah, but they didn't like it?

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah, yeah, awesome. And then the last one, The biggest
lesson football taught me.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Is consistency and becoming a better man. For sure.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
I love it all.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Right now, we're transitioning to the last part of the
podcast where we opened up the question box to the faithful.
So the faithful submitted in a bunch of questions for
you via our Instagram story, and I've got them here
on a list. Got some of the top ones. First
one from the faithful, how have you reacted to the
recent love you've been receiving from all the Bay Area fans.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
It's been great. Yeah, the fans are amazing. You know,
you go out to eat and they congratulate you. It's
it's it's been awesome in that aspect.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
And another question that they have for you is what's
the best advice you say to yourself before a kick?

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Being confident.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
That's one word that I use in my head, just
be confident, be confident when I line up to kick.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Being confident.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
I love it, just that one word. You meditate on.
What's your favorite restaurant in Miami?

Speaker 1 (11:04):
It seems like we've got some faithful in the three
or five favorite restaurant.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
I mean, without a doubt, it's hands down. Get it's
owned by Bad Bunny. Okay, yeah, they don't sponsor me.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
But where is it? Like, what's your favorite?

Speaker 3 (11:16):
It's in downtown in Brickle in Brickel, Yes, downtown Bricko.
They got a really good fried fish. They have a
good New York strip. I mean they're known for their sushi,
but I'm allergic to shellfish, so I can't.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
Really eat you uh sushi.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
But yeah, they're fried fish and their their New York
strip is really good.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Awesome.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Now this one also says tell us about your tattoos.
Do you have a favorite?

Speaker 2 (11:38):
And you talked about your first one, but do you
have a favorite tattoo?

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Yes, my favorite tattoo I have is I have a
big piece on my stomach. I have Jesus dying on
the cross for us. Yeah, that's that's my favorite tattoo.
And it just reminds me you know that he died
for all our sins, and you know, you know he's
always there for you.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
So you said it's big, didn't hurt?

Speaker 4 (12:00):
Yes? Absolutely. It took about like nine hours and I
did it all in one day.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Yeah, do you have one artist that you go to
for everything or you try it all.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
I've had two artists, so one that did my chest
and then one and then one that did my whole stomach.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
And then when it comes to deciding on a tattoo
because it's permanent, do you not tell anyone because you
don't want to get your feelings mixed on you know
how you feel about a certain tattoo or the type
of person that goes and asks everyone for their advice.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
I don't ask. Yeah, I know, when it comes to
a tattoo, I don't ask anyone for advice. I kind
of just like, if I like something, I'll just I'll
just do it. Yeah. In that time, you know, I
was injured when I got this. You gotta be going
through something to get a tattoo piece like this, like mentally,
you need to be going through something.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
At that time, I was hurt, I wasn't playing.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
I was like, you know what, I'm going to get
a tattoo, and you know, yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
That's awesome. I'm happy. That's a way to, you know,
get your mind back on the right track for sure.
That's amazing.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Favorite thing about the faithful. You talked about, you know,
all the love you've been getting. But when you look
at our fan base, You've been to a different couple
fan bases around the league. What stands out about forty
nine Ers fans that's different from the rest.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
In the league.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Yeah, just how supportive they are, and you know how
many Hispanics they are.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
That was the biggest thing for me when I came here.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
I don't know how many Hispanic fans they are, so
that was very surprising and very welcoming, and it makes
you feel at home, you know. Obviously with my friends
we all talk Spanish and you know, yeah, I would
say just the amount of Hispanic fans is just overwhelming.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
It's awesome. It's that's my favorite part.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Shout out to all the forty nine ers Latinos that
are in the Bay Area, love to feel their support.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Awesome.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Now, this last question I think is really funny and
I had to include it. Someone asked, how did he
get that dog in him? So I feel like we
can interpret that question is how do you build that confidence?
Is there anyone that instilled it in you when you
were maybe younger, or how did you grow it as
you were growing up.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
How did you know get that dog in ago?

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Yeah, yeah, I would probably say my dad.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
So obviously playing soccer, I mean having passion playing soccer.
I used to score goals and you would get so
excited and you try to like hold back your excitement
when you're cacking. But it's so tough for me because
I played soccer my whole life, and every time I
would score, I would get so excited and I would
just you know, I would get super excited. So I
would say a lot of that had to do with
the with me growing up playing soccer, and you know, yeah,

(14:28):
scoring goals.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
And you're sm portant goals on my soccer team. I
love to hear it.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Do you have did you have like a celebration that
you would do when you would score a goal?

Speaker 2 (14:36):
You would just let it all go.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Yeah, we had different ones.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
There's times that I would take my shirt off and just
go running crazy hitting the game winning goal. You know,
me and my teammates, we had different handshakes, We had
different things.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
But yeah, and kicking is a little different. It's not
like soccer.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
It's kind of just like you're expected to make those kicks.
So in soccer it's a little different.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Do you still feel though that, like celebrate? Are you
feeling with your teammates here on the Niners. Are you
able to you know, tap into that when you're here
and you are able to celebrate a game winning field
goal like you did against Arizona.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Yeah, yeah, you know I tried to. Yeah, definitely. You know,
I'm human. I'm not a robot. I feel these things.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
It's not you know, people ask me all the time like, oh,
you know, do you get nervous.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
When you kick? Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (15:21):
I mean whatever says they don't get nervous when they kick,
it's a lie. We're human, we have feelings. We want
to do good. It's not like we want to do bad,
you know. But yeah, I think it is important, you know,
celebrating with your teammates and kind of just giving them
confidence and you know, sometimes you know, when the office
isn't doing well or their defense isn't doing well, and
you know, and you can go out there and put

(15:42):
some points on the board and kind of just get
the team going.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
I think I think it's important.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Awesome, Well, Eddie, that's all I have for you on
today's podcast. Thank you so much.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
