Speaker 2 (00:13):
This is Cowboys Storyline, presented by Gillette, the official shave
of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Here's Nick Eatman. Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. I am Nick Eatman,
and the Cowboys are two to two and one after
a big win over the New York Jets. We'll talk
about that, We'll keep talking about the upcoming game against
the Carolina Panthers, and maybe if you want to look
a little bit forward to see just who the Cowboys
(00:44):
have in the upcoming games to see about, maybe it's
time to make a run. I know the Jerry Jones
said on his radio show this week that the thumb
has pointed up. This looks like things are looking good
for this team, especially with all the injuries they had.
For them to have a big win like they did
against the Jets was very impressive. And let's talk about it.
Eight eight eight eight five five two two nine seven.
(01:06):
Let's get straight to the phone calls. Got a lot
of people that want to have a lot of things
to say about this one. So let's start. Irene Falls Church, Virginia,
Irene what's up.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Well morning, what a game. Congrats to all the young
guys who stepped up. Dress a shoddy for handling injuries
masterfully love it. I think James Houston made the biggest
impact turning the defense around. He's ninety seventh in pass
for rush snaps and fifth in sacks free.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
My guy, that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Have a good day, all right. You know the pass
rush looks a lot better. I mean it did, and
and you know, maybe that's gonna happen when you're facing
a team like like the Just but you know, they
they came into this game, their offensive line was was
pretty good. They held up in some of their other games,
and so you know, Fields wasn't getting sacked a lot,
(01:53):
but he got pressured all day long. You know, James
Houston continues to just play out of his mind and
you know he's he's been probably one of the biggest surprises,
uh for this for this team as a ROKU. I thought,
you know, keeps getting a little bit better. You're starting
to see the light come on a little bit more
with him. Dante Fowler had had a nice game, very active,
(02:16):
so uh, you know, I'm not going to say that
they don't miss the other guy in Green Bay. And
they certainly do. But but so far, the last two
weeks it's looked look better. I'll see if they can
continue to do that against the Panthers. All right, let's
go to Davion. He's in Caseyville, Illinois.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Davion, what's going on, big dog? What's going on?
Speaker 6 (02:36):
Is?
Speaker 3 (02:37):
I know, we gotta be quick today. So I hope
everybody's doing okay.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yep, doing good?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
All right? Well, well man, Shoty had me a hello.
I'ma be honest. I was the first press covers. I
was like, we might got us something here. We we
might be able to do something. And every week is
growing and growing. Team it up close to first on
this summer and ox and over, so I think we
got As a coach, Nick, I really think we might
have a chance really so special this year next year.
(03:05):
But it looked like it's going well on our way.
So I'm really excited to see where it goes.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah, I mean it's certainly looking pretty good, you know.
And and and I love that you dropped the Jerry
Maguire reference there right off the bat. He had you
guys gonna catch that one. Yeah, of course, of course,
all right.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Anything else now, you gotta be quick. I'll call it
back later.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I appreciate that you guys following the rules. Chris has
got you guys, uh in shape. I love it. Let's
go to Zach in Atlanta.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
Zach Nick and Frisco. What's going on? Man?
Speaker 8 (03:39):
Right? Man?
Speaker 1 (03:39):
I'm doing good?
Speaker 7 (03:41):
Good to hear Man, to echo, Daveon and many other callers. Uh,
I think we got something in shoddy still early in
the season, still young into his head coaching career. But
I didn't like the process in the spring. But coming
out of the draft, we we drafted a lot of
high quality character guys. I think that was a shoddy fingerprint,
(04:03):
like the accountability in camp and so the adjustments to
get the line right and just scheme up for a
for a decimated you know, roster. I think he did
a great job. So excited for the next couple of
games and see how they build. But speaking of the
roster and guys missing, how do you think Ceedee Lamb
(04:25):
fits back into the offense? Obviously game breakers number one
wide receiver, but the offense feels like it it's focused
right now, and so do you anticipate any hic ups
with him? Coming back. I know it's a weird question,
but with that, I'll hang up.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
All right, No, Zach, I know kind of what you're
thinking there as far as it's looked really good there.
But and then so where does he fit back in?
But I'll tell you at the top, Like right at
the top, that's where he fit. He just slides right
back up there and everyone else figures it out. This
guy is the difference maker for me and for this offense.
(05:05):
And so you know, I think it's a great problem
to have. What it's done is it's shown that some
of these other guys can make plays, and so that
just gives you more weapons to have in your arsenal.
And I think we know what Turpin can do with
his speed. He's going to be a problem, and put
in the right situations. Pickens is a huge problem as well.
(05:28):
I mean, Pickens is beating not just the best guy
that the Jets have, but one of the top three
or four corners in the league just beats him deep,
just gets past him, just you know, just hand fighting
the entire way, makes the play for the touchdown. You know,
he can beat one of the best in the game,
CD can beat one whoever else is in front of them.
(05:49):
Flinoy now coming on. So you know, ceed goes right
to the top and the focus is to get him
the football, then everyone else should be able to make plays.
So great problem to have if it is one about Shoddy,
it's two in a row about Shoddy and and how yeah,
maybe they have something here. You know, accountability is a
(06:11):
word that I've heard several times about him as well.
And if you listen to the press conference right after
the game, Dak said something very interesting on the headset.
He said Shody was kind of blaming himself on some
of the throws. He said, here, you know, this is
on me, Dak, let me try, let me try to
get something going for you. Here, I'm not I'm not
calling a good game for you. And whether or not,
(06:32):
Dak fully believes that, because you know, he puts pressure
on himself too to make plays, but he even said that.
You know, it's refreshing to kind of hear a coach say,
you know, put some o the onus on him. Uh,
not all on him, but but you know it's it's
back and forth. But maybe that's not something that he's
used to. So you could tell Dak appreciated that in
(06:52):
the middle of the game. All right, casey Joe, he's
in Kansas City. What's up?
Speaker 9 (06:57):
Hey, how you doing?
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Nick?
Speaker 1 (06:58):
I'm good? How are you good?
Speaker 10 (07:00):
I'm better.
Speaker 9 (07:00):
I've been heard at work, so I'm just getting back
to the swing. That's what I've been called in lately.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Oh, well, I hope you're feeling better. Oh I am sound?
Speaker 11 (07:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Hey an th huh. I got to turn you down.
You're you're ready, You're you're lively. Let's go.
Speaker 9 (07:15):
I like, sorry, buddy, you're good.
Speaker 8 (07:17):
Do you think?
Speaker 12 (07:17):
Man?
Speaker 9 (07:18):
I'm telling you, I was really impressed with that Thomas,
the number two, the one on his jersey.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
One.
Speaker 9 (07:24):
You picked that quarterback up and lady him on the ground.
He said, you're not getting in the end zone today, buddy,
not today. I'm not on my watch, I mean. And
he's fast. He seems to get everywhere quick. I don't
know how fast that man runs, but he is on
the ball.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, yeah, he is. He's a he's a good uh.
He's a good player, and he's active, and he reminds
me a lot of Donovan Wilson. Honestly, early in his career,
Donovan was a guy that you know, a little bit
penalty prone at times just because they're so aggressive. One
you had some of that, especially some of the preseason.
But he only he only knows one way.
Speaker 6 (07:56):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
You know, his brother played in the in the game
the other side with the Jets. Great story there, We
have something up on the website. Patrick Walker wrote a
story on the website this week about that about that,
you know, just just one yeah, and his relationship with
his brother and both of them playing in the league
and the journey that they had. And you know that
that that play you're talking about is very physical and
(08:18):
that was a key play in the game. I'm telling
you that was really key. That the Jets decided not
to keep the ball there at the one yard line.
You know what surprised me about that is the Cowboys
had a penalty of one of the extra points that
the Jets were off sides after one of the extra points,
so they decided to go for two because the ball
(08:41):
went from the two to the one. That's how they
view the one yard line. Now they got a fall
start penalty and that pushed them back to the six
and and then they ended up i guess not even
making the field goal there. But the point was is
that when the balls at the one go, you go
punch it in and score. And so that's surprising that
the Jets didn't take that opportunity and it cost him
(09:04):
some points there. All right, let's keep it rolling. Lester's
in Illinois. Lester, what's up, hey, Nick?
Speaker 12 (09:11):
How you doing today? Man?
Speaker 1 (09:12):
I'm good?
Speaker 11 (09:13):
How are you quick?
Speaker 13 (09:14):
Good?
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Good?
Speaker 12 (09:15):
I'm doing good. I just got a couple couple of comments,
a couple of questions. Uh, the injury and running back Sanders.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (09:25):
The reason I'm asking about him because I just wanted
to Blue Gun to play a little bit more. And
what do you think of the defensive lion rotation now
that Houston is really doing well and and we got
some people coming back from injury. So that's all I have.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Go Cowboys, all right? You know, the the question about
Miles Sanders and Jayden Blue that that is going to
be interesting. I think Sanders probably could come back and
play this week. They wanted to see Blue there. Blue
his his status might be affected with Turpin because we
saw kick return it was pretty nice, so we might
(10:03):
that might be that might be factored in with with
what Cavante's status looks like Jerry Jones did say this
week there's a chance fingers crossed there that Turpin could
come back. But you know, I just think he just
needs to keep playing.
Speaker 7 (10:17):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
You know, he's got the speed, the quickness. You know,
once he starts, stops thinking so much, he should be fine.
As for your d line rotation, yeah, Houston's Houston's got
to be right there at the top. He's been outstanding.
Keep getting him rushes and I think the other guys
are probably gonna be just fine. Marshawn neland comes back,
Clowney will continue to emerge, and I think it'll be
(10:40):
one of those where each week it might be somebody
kind of different there in that rotation. Let's take a
break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back after.

The Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave of
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
All right back here on Cowboys Storyline, Let's go straight
to the phone. Line's got a lot of callers today.
Michael Bowling Green, Kentucky. Michael, what you got.
Speaker 10 (12:38):
Hey, man, I'm just sitting here in the central time
zone of Bawling Green. Okay, but uh I was a
Silliams and Fornoy had one hundred yard Russian and one
hundred yard receiving.
Speaker 17 (12:51):
First Cowboy teammates that ever do that in one half.
That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Yeah, that is crazy. That is crazy.
Speaker 17 (13:01):
And this is my question. You can't you can't go
crazy over one game. But it seems to me other
teams have been successful when their stars have been out
and their backups stepped up and they still want Do
you think if that continues? I mean, could we be
(13:23):
looking at actually a better season than we thought. You said,
you've never seen a tie or an NFC championship game.
Maybe this is the year we get both.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
That would be great. All right, Michael, thank you? I
think thanks for the call, And you're right about you know,
you've got to have some consistency. So when you keep,
you know, changing out the pieces, I think what you
do is you look at what what isn't changed, what
hasn't changed, what is still here from that one to
this week. And your quarterbacks playing out of his mind?
(13:57):
He really is, I mean, and he's playing like a
football player. He's not playing just like a quarterback. And
now you know you've heard me say it over and
over when Dak plays like a football player that plays quarterback,
and I mean, when it's time to run, he runs,
he's diving, he's sliding, he's got that clock in his head.
He knows when to take off, when to throw it away,
(14:19):
when to lift for another plays. He's just making those
right calls. He looks like a guy that's in his
tenth year of his of his career mentally, but he's
playing like he was playing when he was a rookie
in his in his first or second and third year.
So I'm not saying he's turner back the clock, but
it's it's kind of looking that way. And that is
(14:41):
when you so when you bring in another receiver here
in another offensive lineman here, and other backs and stuff.
The constant. The one thing that's staying the same is Dak,
and Dak's playing great just about every single week, so
you got to give him credit for that. Let's go
to Shelby. He's in Virginia, Shelby. What's up?
Speaker 18 (15:00):
Hey, good morning, Nick?
Speaker 1 (15:01):
How you doing good? How are you?
Speaker 9 (15:03):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 18 (15:04):
I'll try to keep it to rapid fire tuesday pace.
I let's say two years ago when we did the
Washington game, you signed my copy of If These Walls
Could Talk. I don't think I can called back. Since
finished it, absolutely loved it. As somebody who grew up
in I was too young in the two thousands for
really anything that happened in that book to remember, and
I felt like I got to sort of live those seasons,
(15:27):
which is incredibly fun. So I passed it off to
my dad. Truly, just great work. I'm not sure where
he is or if he has started, But I am
looking for my next Nick Emon book, so you name it.
I order it tonight. But what book should I read?
Speaker 1 (15:47):
I mean, I got I've got a couple of others,
you know. I mean, I had another book, but it's
called Friday, Saturday, Sunday in Texas. The problem is is
the season that a chronicles is the twenty fifteen Cowboys
season that went four and twelve. So that's not exactly fun.
You know, I didn't pick the best season there, but hey,
it is what it is, and that's it's partially NFL
(16:10):
and a high school team and a college team. But
you got anything else?
Speaker 18 (16:15):
Well, no, I was gonna say, if you do have
this specific book, we may be trying to make it
down to Carolina for this game. And so if I
am able to build my collection of signed Nick Even books,
that would.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Just be awesome.
Speaker 18 (16:25):
No pressure, Cowboys thirty two Panther seventeen.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Okay, appreciate that thirty two seventeen is our first score
of the week. You know, I don't know what to
think about about this game coming up. I mean I
know that, you know, Carolina, they're interesting, They're they're better
than than what they were. I mean when the Cowboys.
This is the third year in a row that we've
gone there, and so we'll see. I think that they're
(16:51):
probably going to be the most competitive that they've been
and we'll see what the injuries look like. But thanks
for the shout out with the books. If these Walls
to Talk is certainly the one that that it gives,
you know, the most Cowboy fans would like. We did
a sixtieth anniversary book as well. It's more of a
coffee table book. Did that with Jeff Sullivan and then
of course fifties or Friday, Saturday Sunday in Texas. It's
(17:13):
also about other teams, but the Cowboys are part of
that as well. All right, Lewis and Langston, Oklahoma is next.
Speaker 19 (17:20):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Are you no no people?
Speaker 20 (17:23):
And I'm not bad man, I'm gonna keep it quick.
In short, I was calling because I enjoyed the game
the other day. My only criticism is, and I hate
to say it, because it was really played, a really
good hardball game. Only criticism is I feel like we
gave up the run, run defense and added the sact
like we can't marry the two together.
Speaker 12 (17:43):
Can we?
Speaker 20 (17:43):
Can we stop the run.
Speaker 21 (17:44):
And get the sacks at the same time.
Speaker 20 (17:46):
I just want them to do I'm not I don't
want to. I'm not saying that I wanted to be perfect.
I know there's gonna be some hiccups stir here and
there but like Breeth Hall was doing a lot of damage.
Speaker 19 (17:56):
So I just I just stop.
Speaker 20 (17:57):
Them from getting eight yards a pop, maybe five. It
would have been a fantastic game. But since I'm gonna
be on shore, I'm gonna leave it at that and
I'll call back when i can.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Yeah, all right, Well, I mean thanks for the call.
And and you know, wins still have have some some
things that the Cowboys can work on, and that's that's
what makes it exciting. And you're you're not wrong. I mean,
they they ran the ball pretty well. Breese Hall did
have There's a couple that I remember, they just went
right up the middle. And now he didn't always give
(18:28):
the ball back to the ref uh, And I thought
that that fumble was you know, turning point in the
entire game. But but you're right, A gashed him a
few times there. And so that's one of those things
where you do get heavy pressure, sometimes you do give
up the running plays and and we've seen that happened
when when Mike was here as well. You know, I
mean the focus is up the field, up the field
(18:50):
for sacks and you've got to be careful with that.
But you know, they it was kind of been but
don't break especially down inside the five. I think Solomon
Thomas had a huge play there on that third down tackle.
Maybe it was a second down tackle from the three
yard line of really push him back and that kind
of changed the momentum. So they they tightened up when
(19:12):
they needed to, when it was you know, when they
were there to run the ball and stop the run.
But yeah, there's certain certainly could be a little bit better.
Let's go to Troy and Philly for our next call.
Speaker 11 (19:24):
Hey Nicholas, Hey, how are you?
Speaker 19 (19:27):
I'm good man. First of all, let me just tell
you now, you are totally living my dream man, A
child is staying of the team and you get to
work in the building like you are my hero.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
For that, well, thank you, I appreciate it. I tried
not to lose sight of that. It is awesome. It
is awesome. Thanks a lot.
Speaker 19 (19:42):
A quick question back. I heard the yesterday. I thought
it was kind of interesting. I heard Dak and Shoddy
compared to Breeze and Peyton. I think they think they
maybe a few years away from that. I just thought
it was an interesting, uh comparison. I just wonder what
you think of that.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Thanks man, Okay, thank you. I guess, I guess that's
an age thing of where where they are in their
in their age. Uh yeah, Sean, Sean Payton and and Breeze.
I haven't really heard that, but you know that a
young coach getting his opportunity and he can lean on
(20:20):
a veteran quarterback that's been around and he kind of
needs a little bit of a jolt as well. Again,
I don't know the comparison. That's that's how I'm comparing it.
That maybe Sean Payton, the best thing for Sean Payton
was Drew Brees, and the best thing for Drew Brees
was was Sean Payton. And then maybe that's kind of
what what what's happening here with the Cowboys as well,
(20:42):
because you know Schottenheimer, he does know Dak and he's
kind of getting to to, you know, have the benefit
of a veteran quarterback there, and the veteran quarterback gets,
you know, a new voice in his head that can
kind of change things up from a different perspective. Either way,
if they can have the success that those guys had,
then it's gonna be a great season or next couple
seasons here with the Cowboys. Let's go to break here
(21:03):
on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back after this.
Speaker 22 (21:07):

The Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette, The official shave of
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
All right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline presented by Gillette.
And it is rapid Tuesday, and we do the tape
the TV show, so that's why we're going really really quick.
We can slow down just a little bit. But I
still love the pace. I love the fact we get
a lot of callers in here like it a lot.
So let's go keep it going. Kansas City, Brian, and
(22:41):
Kansas City's next.
Speaker 8 (22:44):
Good morning, Nick, How are you so great? How are
you excellent?
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Man?
Speaker 8 (22:48):
Hey, I want to eat some crow and toot my
own horn on the same call here. Okay, soys listening
to Broadest is one of the eighteen shows brought us
is on and he says, you know, hey, we're when
we're wrong, we can't admit you're wrong, you know. And
during the offseason I was pretty down on the Javonte
(23:10):
Williams signings. I thought the Cowboys just went and did
the same old thing again, got somebody that's over the
you know, the career is behind him, and you know,
and just didn't have any faith that that was going
to work out well, that guy's top five in almost
every category now, so I got to say, you know
(23:30):
what boy did, Will did. Will McClay get that one
and his group get that right, and Brian Eaton did not.
I got that one wrong. So I will say this though,
before the Eagles game, when I made my prediction for
the Eagles game, I said, hey, we're going to lose.
We just changed offensive and defensive schemes and we didn't
(23:52):
play in the preseason. We for the first month of
the season. We're going to be learning on the job
while the game count. And I said in October, things
are gonna look different. And I kind of do believe
that that's what's been happening. Everybody's kind of figuring their
rules out and getting it. So let's you come in
(24:15):
on that. Good to talk to you, next speculator.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Okay, I mean it's it's one of those things where
everyone loves to be right all the time, and everyone
loves to like it seems like like when when something
happens where a guy makes, a player doesn't make, a
player has a penalty, we do it a lot where
like that's just who he is, Like we just make
the big grand picture of everything and be like they're
(24:39):
not very good or he's not very good, or he's
an all pro or everything, and we're doing it right
now with you know, with Javonte Williams on, you know,
in a good way, and he's he's running the ball well. Again,
It's what I've said. I think it's a combination of
the coaches going all right, this is a player that
I'm looking for. Maybe he didn't work out over here
(25:02):
the same way, but I'm going to use him this way.
And I have a vision for him. And that's kind
of what we're seeing. And it's not just him, they're
they're running the ball better and so they have a
vision for that offensive line and how to do things.
All right. Let's go to Jr. In Avondale, Arizona.
Speaker 6 (25:21):
Going and Nick, how's everything there in Dallas?
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Great?
Speaker 6 (25:23):
How are you oh hanging in there and doing all right?
So I'll make it quick. So Nate Thomas. They kind
of shut Nate Thomas down last year, guy that's injured
a lot. They shut him down and gave him a
whole year basically, in my opinion, just to get better.
With all the people coming back and with so much talent,
(25:45):
we know guys are going to have to go. So
do we bring back all these guys? I know, I
know that Mingo and Carson are on their twenty one
day window. I think that they're gonna leave Mingo out
there for the whole twenty one days. See what happens
with Turpin and Lamb. But a guy like Revel, is
(26:05):
he a guy that maybe he doesn't play this year
because he's had a lot of he's had injuries, and
do we let him just completely heal? I'd bite my
tongue and hate to say this, but if the season
starts getting away, do they do the same with Demo
and just shut him down? And he's such a talent,
you just give him time to get better and not
putting back in the situation that's not going to make
(26:26):
a difference. So it's all I got. Have a great day,
go cowboyst.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Well thanks for the call. They are and you know,
every every injury is different, every situation is different, so
it's hard to kind of compare what worked here and
what didn't work. I think you just have to evaluate
overshown as you know, just in a separate case. Uh,
is he ready to play football? I mean when he
(26:52):
comes back, can he can he make a difference, Can
he can he help this team? Is he going to
come right right in? And you know when can he
play and contribute? And you know he feels like he
can play this year, And if the Cowboys feel the
same way, then you know that's then they'll they'll do that.
You know, you can't just compare the situation with Nate Thomas.
(27:14):
Remember Nate Thomas is a small school guy at Louisiana University,
and he didn't play a lot of preseason games, so
he just didn't have a lot of experience and that's
what he needed. And so and he even if he
wasn't hurt, he really wasn't able to kind of contribute
and help. But Overshown's a different case because if he
(27:34):
is healthy, he can be a significant helper to this defense.
You can argue that he might be your best linebacker
if he just comes right back right now. So he's
the most accomplished of them in my opinion. So anyways,
good question. But remember these injuries are all different, and
I think everybody's situation is not the same. Let's go
(27:57):
to Mark, He's in Davis, California.
Speaker 21 (28:01):
Hey, what's uping that gold On?
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Are you.
Speaker 21 (28:04):
Oh great, man, I just uh uh glad to get in, man.
It's been I got in last year one time.
Speaker 9 (28:10):
I think I called.
Speaker 21 (28:10):
I got in right before my fight, after my daughter
had passed away. You know you probably don't remember her. No,
right before the Niner game. I called in last year
and uh in September. But yeah, I'm hanging in the
man's taking a date by day, but trying trying to
move get on with with the daily life.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
You know, I don't know if it ever gets better,
and I wouldn't speak from experience.
Speaker 10 (28:31):
Yeah, no, it doesn't.
Speaker 5 (28:32):
It doesn't get any easier.
Speaker 21 (28:33):
You know, some people say it gets easier, but it doesn't.
Speaker 12 (28:35):
It doesn't.
Speaker 21 (28:36):
It's a it's a daily just to get out of
dead man. It's it's tough just to roll out.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
And I can't imagine. I can't imagine.
Speaker 21 (28:43):
Yeah, but I got my I got my twelve year
old granddaughter. She left behind, so we've got to live
for her, right But anyhow, anyway, under on the Cowboys.
But no, man, I just want to give a shout
out to the to our old line man and both
my O line and D line last game they played awesome,
man for you know, the four different starters and four
new starters in there, and then the D line finally
(29:06):
got some pressure you know what I mean, right, long
awaited pressure on the QB.
Speaker 9 (29:10):
So hopefully you.
Speaker 21 (29:11):
Keep this up, you know, hopefully have to sign up
things to come with the D line, you know, get
some more pressure to release, get some help out. It'll
help our back end out either too. I mean safeties
and corners and stuff and whatnot. But that's it.
Speaker 5 (29:25):
Man.
Speaker 21 (29:25):
Just wanted to give a shout out to Okay, well,
thank you to the O line and D line for
a great game, and then go Cowboys and hopefully we
keep it up in Carolina.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
All right, thank you, Mark, appreciate the call, and you
keep doing the good work there. And I know that
that's not an easy situation. And I say that a
lot of people probably are going through things not necessarily
like that, but everyone's got things that they go through,
and you know, in a weird way, sometimes sports or
(29:55):
anything that can get your mind off things that you
can be excited about, can can certainly help. And you know,
if the Cowboys, if that's if that's the trick that
does it for some, then you know what, let's let's
root for them. Even more. You know what I mean
to win games, because sometimes they do more than than
we even realize. That old line D line. Yeah, you know,
(30:16):
games are won there. That's what That's where they won.
That's where they're lost. It's right there in the trenches.
And so you see it every every day of the week,
whatever week they play football, whether it's Thursday night, JV
football or or you know, eighth grade football, college pro.
If you're winning up front, you're probably going to win
the game. And that's just the way it is. So
(30:38):
the Cowboys were able to do that, and I think
that was the difference. All Right, Bruce in Houston is next? Bruce?
What's up?
Speaker 23 (30:45):
Hey? Nick? Thanks for the call. Prayers out to the
previous caller. That's I'm not supposed to happen. You're not
supposed to live your children. It's not that that's terrible.
Prayers are ye for sure. You know, Dak said something
the other day, Dak's playing really good. I know Michael Strahan,
you know, tempered to said well, let's just wait for
(31:06):
the playoffs. And I unfortunately have to agree with him
because you know, Dak has done this before and played
really great during the pre regular season and then you know,
not so well in the playoffs. So until he does that,
and he even set himself, he goes, he looks at
Roger and Troy, you know, because I always thought I
was I'm sure, I don't know if you've got to
(31:27):
watch Danny White play or not, Nick, but.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Danny White I was in my backyard. I mean, yes,
Danny White was the quarterback that I knew.
Speaker 7 (31:39):
H yeah, I mean I'm a little older you.
Speaker 23 (31:42):
Roger was my guy. But the point I'm making is
Danny White and beat a lot of records that Roger
had up there, but he didn't go to the Super Bowl. Now,
and I always thought, you know, Romo was kind of
like a Danny White, you know, because when you hear
Dallas talk about the Super Bowls, it's Roger and Troy,
you know, respectively, Because but Danny White went to the
championship game. Hadn't been for Joe Montana, they probably won
(32:05):
one himself. And if you just won one, you'd say
Danny White in the same breath as Roger and Troy.
And Dak said that the other day, and so I'm
glad he said that because he knows what he's got
to do. Uh, and technic Lee's not even in Danny's
league yet because he had made it to the championship game.
You know, at least Danny did that. I'm not I'm
(32:27):
not mistaken. You may be able to correct me. I
think at least twice he went there.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Three years, okay, three years in a row in the
championship games.
Speaker 23 (32:34):
That's pretty durned good. Pretty good. And if they'd have
won that stupid forty nine Ers game, you know they'd
I believe it was Cincinnati that forty nine Ers mopped
the floor with, but we would have too that. In fact,
they all said that was the super Bowl. Whoever won
that game was going to run the super Bowl. But
I hope Dak does it, because God, he's playing really good.
I just want him to put it together. And I
love the offensive coaches that they've picked, the offensive line coaches,
(32:57):
because man, when you can play four, I know they're
called backups, but they did pretty durn good. I know
it gets a Jets and they should beat Carolina next week.
So murderers Row is coming up, and it does seem
like they're finally either getting eber Flus's defense or getting
better healthier. So I'll hang up and listen. But that's
(33:19):
what I appreciate about Dak.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Good Joe, thanks for the call. You know, Dak Dok
handles that question very well. You know, the in any time,
it's like, Dak, you passed Rumo for most three hundred
yard games and a three with three tds or whatever
it is. You know, whatever the PR's staff sends out there,
somebody will ask Dak about it, and you know, and
(33:42):
he's he's he answers the question, you know, graciously. He says, yeah,
I mean, I I the records are great, they're awesome.
But at the same time, he also understands that that
it's Roger and Troy, you know, winning Super That's what
they've done. That's doesn't matter what it is. Just like
(34:04):
Jason Garrett had more wins in the regular season than
Jimmy I guess, or you know, no one cares about
that kind of stuff because when you talk about the
great coaches, these are the ones we talked about, the
ones that won the Super Bowl, or at least the
two that won the Super Bowl. Nobody seems to put
Barry in there, but I would because he won the
Super Bowl. But but yeah, quarterback, you know, you say,
(34:26):
if Danny White would have won one, he would have
been up there with those guys. Well, Barry Switzer won
a Super Bowl and he's not up there with those guys.
But I know what your point is. You would have
been viewed differently. Romo would have been viewed differently obviously
if you win, and Dak's gonna be viewed differently if
he wins. That's just the way that it goes. And
so I you know, I put I loved watching Danny
(34:47):
White when I was a kid. That was the quarterback
from my era. I put Romo ahead of him, though,
I mean, I don't look at the NFC championship games
like that. I put Romo ahead of him as a
talented quarterback and a better player. Just always look at
that about where you are when you took over the franchise.
What did you do to the franchise? Did you take
it up a level or did it go down with
(35:09):
you and Danny White? Yeah, they went to championship games,
but as a franchise in the eighties, they went down
when he was the quarterback. So I'm no disrespect to him,
but a talent wise, I think Romo was a better
quarterback and I think Dak and Romo are pretty much
the same. So that's kind of where my list would be,
all right, Casey and Los Angeles is next.
Speaker 11 (35:31):
Hey, Nick, speaking of Barry real quick now that your
daughters the sooner, I do expect your allegiance this weekend.
But calling to talk about something else. Obviously, the NFL
loves parody, and we're seeing it out there right now.
I think it's a good thing. There's no great teams,
but there's a bunch of pretty good teams. That the
Cowboys continue to get healthy and pick up the defense,
(35:54):
they're going to be right in the mix. So early on,
we've seen how they've handled adversity. Now see how they
handle prosperity going on the road again. That they should win,
but it's the NFL, so anything can happen. But I'm
completely stoked to see what happened this weekend.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
All right, thanks for the call. Case he's referring to
the first part. The OU Texas game in Dallas. Will
be in Carolina for that, and so yeah, I've been
on both sides of that. As far as teams that
I've rooted for, there's been times I've rooted for Oklahoma
when I was a younger kid living in Oklahoma, and
(36:30):
then over the last few years, you know, there's so
many people here that are Texas Longhorns. I've found myself
rooting for Texas. My money actually goes now to the
other side, and did and for this specific game. Of course,
I got a ticket when it was gonna be like
a top ten matchup with two great quarterbacks. And now
(36:52):
Texas has fallen off a little bit. Oklahoma doesn't have
their quarterback, so the prices have come down once. You
love when that happens. When you you jump, you try
to get ahead of the game and spend money and
for it. The next thing, you know, it's basically giving
them away, all right. As for your point, though, ok see,
you're right, this is a game that they should win.
(37:15):
You know, you don't want to play to the level
of the competition, but this is going to be a
feisty game. You know they'll it'll be you know, it'll
be like last night team. When you look at Jacksonville,
Kansas City, you see the crowd, there's all Kansas City
fans in there, but the Jacksonville fans. When that happens,
then they go to another level. The Cowboy fans did
that when the Packers came to town. Trust me, the
(37:37):
Cowboy fans are going to dominate this stadium just like
they did last week. But the Panther fans that are
there that they got something to be cheering about, they'll
be excited. It'll be a great atmosphere. I think the
Panthers are playing better on defense, but I still think
it's a game. The Cowboys should go up there and
take care of business and win. I mean, you got
to get after Bryce Young and then make him uncomfortable.
(37:58):
All right, Ed, and New York is next.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Good morning, neck, Happy victory Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Let's keep it rolling, all right?
Speaker 11 (38:06):
How are you great?
Speaker 5 (38:08):
Uh? We had four of us drive down to the
game on Sunday.
Speaker 9 (38:12):
I loved it.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
Comfortable win. I mean, for once my star shakh Ulcer
wasn't on fire on a Sunday and it felt a
little strange.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Yeah, it did. It did kind of feel weird. It
looked like maybe the Jets were going to try to
come back into it. But again another thing I disagree
with Aaron Glenn. I would not have kicked it on
sidekick there, but they did, and that pretty much ended
any chance of them winning that game.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
But yeah, whatever, fire fun environment a hot day. I
felt bad for I saw you and Derek and the
sidelines and suits, and I felt bad for you. But
I want to just give a couple of props out
on one Germonte Williams. I was not a big fan
when they signed him. I thought they didn't do enough
in the running back room. And boy was I wrong,
especially when he took that jersey number. Really was not
(39:00):
on his side, but he has converted me. Uh he
is a tough, tough son of a gun. And uh,
second props to the coach Shady. I just felt like
you've heard these calls. You've had a bunch of them
on didn't feel like Jerry, and they didn't thoroughly search enough.
(39:20):
But apparently something was said and they knew, they knew
what we didn't know. And little by little he's been
turning me. You know. It started with developing the staff.
He TechEd some guys that were teachers and coaches and
I thought, huh interesting and little by little game management
right from the Philly game on heavy, little, little by
Little's he's bringing bringing me around and and I'm a believer,
(39:45):
So props Flowers to Davante and Shadi. Uh, thanks and
talk to you later.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
Okay, thank you so much. You're right, Davante, we talked
about it several times.
Speaker 23 (39:55):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
You know, he's he just runs hardy. He's a great
compliment to what to what they're trying to do, and
the play action works so well. You're also seeing it
open up for Ferguson and you know he's not he
doesn't put up a ton of yards, but he's making
kind of a ton of catches. And you know that
five six yards. You can laugh at it if you
want to, you know, but it's it's definitely, you know,
(40:17):
half of first down, if not more than that. So
it's it's moving the change and it's just playing pitch
and catch out there and and it's and it's working.
But the running game is really what sets it all off.
All right, Eric and Colleen Texas is next.
Speaker 10 (40:33):
Hey, Yeah, how are you doing?
Speaker 23 (40:37):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (40:37):
Hey, Nick, how are you doing? Man?
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Good?
Speaker 6 (40:40):
Are you good?
Speaker 24 (40:42):
I was listening yesterday and hearing you guys talk about
Shotty and Dack being this on the same page, and
how sometimes you know, an assistant or whatever, you have
to keep your mouth shut when you think you see
things that the head coach may not necessarily agree with, right,
And I'm just kind of wondering how you think the
MC feel this you're watching that just cook with ideas
(41:02):
that he'd probably heard the last year or two that
he thought were not good.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Uh yeah, I mean, and it's not the first time, right,
because I mean didn't Green Bay have some some success
as well, you know, after after him and in different
situation with the coaching staff. But as far as the
same guys and and and have, you know, you'd ever
want to hear that you never want to leave and
then all of a sudden things get to get better.
But yeah, I mean I think Schottenheimer, though he talked
(41:29):
about it like it's been a respectful situation with him
and Mike and and I think shot he did it
the right way. I don't think there was some sabotage
going on or anything like that. I mean, as an assistant,
you always have opinions. I mean it's not just in football.
Think about in your job. You mean, your boss says
one thing and you you think there's a different way
because you see it differently because you're maybe you're in
(41:51):
it a little bit more than they are. But they
have a different agenda too because of what you know,
what's going on maybe above them or whatever. So that's life.
That that's that's the it is, and how you handle it,
how you you go about your business and say what
if we try this? Have you thought about this? And
then then when it is your time, and that's what
you do when you become a manager or a director
or boss, whatever, head coach, you say, these are some
(42:14):
of the things. If I'm ever in this position, this
is how I'm going to do it differently. And so
I give him credit for that, and I think it's
working out because the thing about Shoddy is he's just
a great person. He's just a people person. He understands people,
he understands relationships, and I think it's going real well
between him and Dak. All right, let's go to G
in Atlanta.
Speaker 25 (42:34):
G what's up Nick?
Speaker 26 (42:37):
Happy Tuesday, my brother?
Speaker 1 (42:38):
How are you?
Speaker 26 (42:39):
I am doing well?
Speaker 23 (42:40):
Man?
Speaker 26 (42:40):
I appreciate you taking my call. Sure, all right, man,
I got a couple. I got two questions for you, which, uh,
which group do you think are playing the best running backs?
Wide receivers, tight ends are O line? And then my
second question is I've been saying all the year off
(43:03):
season man that I feel like we're moving different, The
organization is moving different. Is Stephen Jones kind of taking
over more of the.
Speaker 25 (43:15):
The head roll now or.
Speaker 19 (43:17):
This all Jerry Jones.
Speaker 26 (43:18):
I think we've done.
Speaker 25 (43:19):
Things differently this year, like signing people, signing people early,
getting rid of Michael Parkson, which never happens. So I
just want to get your thoughts on that, man.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
From the line, Well, thanks for the call. And you
know those two scenarios you said, is it is it
just all Jerry Jones or Stephen Jones now the main guy?
And I think it's I think it's neither of those
two scenarios. You know, I don't think it's it's all
of anyone. But I also think Jerry's still you know,
he's still in control of this. Stephen every year seems
(43:55):
to have a little bit more voice, That's what it
seems like. But you know, and looking down the road
and what makes you know the best move not just
this year but but next year. So and he's always
kind of done that. If you go back to the
signing deon Sanders, you know, they got into a little
shoving match in the hallway because he didn't think that
(44:16):
was a smart move for how much money they were
paying for. And you know, Jerry had a different vision,
and I think it turned out to be a good,
you know, a good move there. But all right, let's
and then another another part that you made. Which of
these position groups are playing the best running back, receivers,
O line or tight ends. I that's that's a good
(44:38):
one because they've all other than tight ends, everyone's really
experienced injuries, and running backs a little bit injury. I
would say your receivers, probably because Pickens has been outstanding.
Flinoy Camp comes in, he's been really good. Uh in
the game that that that he got to play CD.
You know, he did have that first game where he
(44:59):
dropped some some passes, still had one hundred yards. That
had one hundred the next game. So I think the receivers,
but you can't really go wrong with any of those.
All right, let's go one more break here on Cowboys storyline.
Be right back after this.
Speaker 22 (45:11):
All right, Cowboys fans, this one's for you. Jill Let's

Speaker 1 (46:18):
Cowboys Welcome Back to Cowboys storyline. A lot of calls today,
got some text questions. One that I want to throw
at real quick Mike from Boston. He says, I guess
it's safe to say Ryan f Illinoy could never go
back on the practice squard. He'll get scooped up. Yeah,
probably not. Those days are over. That's a good thing.
He was on the practice squad for one week, they
elevated him and he's been on the roster ever since.
(46:40):
I bet he's gonna stay that way. Remember Mingo's coming
back as well. You still have Jalen Tolbert Turpin, not
to mention CD and of course Pickings. So the receivers
group looks really good right now. But Flinoy definitely gave
you some some Miles Austen vibes a little bit. Jerry
Jones actually said that on his Ready show that he
(47:00):
thought that as well. Great problem to have and a
lot of the weapons there for Dak in that group,
guys at standy show a lot of fun. We'll do
this every single day ten am Central, so we want
to make sure you're a part of that as well.

will see you next time. On Cowboys Storyline presented by Gillette.
