Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the
Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (00:12):
This is Cowboys Storyline with Nick Eatman.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
What's up? Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. I am Nick Eatman
and it's time to talk full hour of Cowboys football
with you. Cowboys get the big win over Tampa Bay
on Sunday twenty six to twenty four. This will be
our Christmas edition of Cowboys Storyline and a nice President.

(00:41):
The Cowboys got to open there last Sunday beating Tampa
Bay in dramatic fashion. They just basically took the game away,
just like Jordan Lewis took the interception away, just like
Duran Bland took the fumble away. That's what the Cowboys did.
They took this game and beat the Bucks to get
to seven and eight. They've won four out of five.

(01:05):
Is that rolling? It looks sounds like it. I mean,
for this team, it is. Baker Mayfield. Say what you
want about him, he's the best quarterback. I think the
Cowboys have defeated this year him or Jayden Daniels, and
so you know, it was it was a tough one.
It was a tough game that could not run the football.
We saw that. Everyone could see that. They had they

(01:25):
had their struggles. They were one dimensional, but they figured
out a way. They scored it off. They got I
mean they had a weapon. Brandon Aubrey's a weapon. Anytime
you made four field goals of forty nine yards or more,
three fifty yarders set an NFL record for most fifty
yarders in a season. And and and a lot of
times you know you have to punt. And that's the

(01:45):
Cowboys were able to get points because of that, because
of him. It's he's been there all year long, and
he was he was certainly the difference maker and the
Cowboys getting that win. So let's talk about it. Eight
eight eight eight seven is the number to call. Let's
get right to the phone. Calls Irene in Falls Church, Virginia.

(02:06):
Is what is up? First? What's up?

Speaker 5 (02:08):
Hey?

Speaker 6 (02:08):
Good morning?

Speaker 7 (02:09):
How are you good morning?

Speaker 1 (02:10):
How are you?

Speaker 7 (02:11):
Oh right?

Speaker 5 (02:12):
All right?

Speaker 8 (02:12):
So yeah, they they this team keeps going. They will
not quit on Mike or Mike. So I think we're
probably getting the two of them back unless we completely
fall off the rails the last two weeks. But it
doesn't look like this team, you know, they have fight.
I don't know whatever it is they and the defense

(02:33):
is pretty impressive, so.

Speaker 9 (02:36):
Offense obviously you know good.

Speaker 10 (02:38):
It was good to.

Speaker 8 (02:38):
See back on the sideline, so hopefully steps together next year.
But I want this game plan for Dak. I feel
like we've been having a better game plan to manage,
to help Cooper Rush manage, and I want to see
back have that luxury next year if Mike is back.

Speaker 11 (02:55):
So I agree.

Speaker 12 (02:59):
Yeah, I have a question.

Speaker 8 (03:00):
We're just a post of the callers, so I'm curious
now what we want to see, what people want to
see with these last two games, because there were a
lot of people yesterday, even people who wanted us to
tank for draft picks who also wanted Philly to lose
yesterday so mess up their seedings. So my question is

(03:21):
for next week's game, what are we what are we
rooting for? What's the more important priority to people? Nothing
with Philly or getting the draft pick. But I really
don't care because now we're officially eliminated. That last game
of the season matters way more to me than Philly.
But yeah, I'll be I'm good if we win, and

(03:42):
if not, we have the silver lining.

Speaker 12 (03:44):
Of the draft picks.

Speaker 8 (03:45):
So I'm just curious what people think.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
All right, thank you.

Speaker 7 (03:49):
You know, I.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Can't remember the last time the Cowboy fan was like, man,
I really hoped we lose to the Eagles. Like, man,
that will just be better for us in every way.
Merry Christmas. Lose to the Eagles. No, not happening, Like, like,
I just don't I don't think people are gonna root
for that again. Like, like we've said all along, you know,

(04:12):
it doesn't happen if you don't win. All right, Well,
you know that that's that that will probably help your
your draft status. But you know, Philadelphia's playing for stuff.
They're they're you know, they they're still trying to win
the division. They had a chance. I didn't think about that.
They they had the hats on the sideline to win

(04:33):
the division and the DeVante Smith drops the ball. That's
the second time this year Philly has lost the game
because one of their key players dropped the drop the
pass or the game would have been over. And so
that that's a that's a tough way to lose. It's
a tough way if you have Jalen Hurts on your
fantasy team and you lose in the playoffs. Whatever that's fine,

(04:56):
but yeah, that was It was a tough loss all
the way around for Philly. But we'll see what happens
this week. I just can't imagine anybody from the Cowboys
not wanting to go out there and win that. If
it means something to Philly, go beat them. And the
same with Washington in two weeks. All right, let's go
to the next caller, Joe in Stanford, Texas. What's up, Joe,

(05:17):
Merry Christmas?

Speaker 5 (05:18):
Brother?

Speaker 1 (05:18):
How are you good? How are you good to hear
from you?

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (05:21):
You know, I get, I get until after Christmas off
and this is this was my number one priority of
my first day off.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
All right, I appreciate it, love it.

Speaker 7 (05:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (05:30):
Well, to answer Irene's question, uh.

Speaker 7 (05:33):
Screw that.

Speaker 13 (05:34):
We need to beat Philly. Whatever we can do to
ruin whatever we can for them makes me more happy
to extra slot for a draft picks, No thanks, Yeah,
I hate the Philadelphia Eagles with the purple passion.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
So yeah, yeah, I are you.

Speaker 13 (05:52):
A couple of things. First, you know, I called it
a couple of weeks ago talking about the coach thing,
and Irene brought that up as well. I said, damn
that I wouldn't bet money on them returning. After listening
to Jerry Copp last night, I think I probably would
put a little money on it. I think generally speaking,
we're gonna have the same coaching staff next year, and frankly,

(06:13):
I feel like it's probably the right move.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
You know.

Speaker 13 (06:15):
The only thing that bugs me in the thing that
really makes me not is the penalties, and we just
haven't Still this last game, we did really well, but
overall McCarthy just has teams to get penalized so much.
But still, I think it's probably the right move.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (06:34):
Yeah, other thing, I can't believe at any point that
I thought that we had a better chance of winning
games with Trey Lansteady Cooper Rush. Cooper Rush deserves a
lot of credit. Man, That dude is playing great. Yeah,
and we really, the whole team owes him. The hell
the coaching staff owes him. As far as I'm concerned.

(06:57):
Without him, this four and five streat we just talked
about definitely not be materialized.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Yeah, he gets a lot of credit, There's no doubt
about it. Joe favorite Christmas movie before I let you go.

Speaker 13 (07:10):
Favorite Christmas movie. Well, this is not very much Christmas movie,
but they call it a Christmas movie. I'm gonna go
with Stard.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
All right, all right, sounds good, thank you. Bruce Willis
has come out and said that it is not a
Christmas movie. He had a pretty big role in the movie,
so he doesn't think it is. I'm kind of on
the fence there. I kind of say no to that.
But that's all right. It's gotten some votes. Who cares?
So all right? The penalties, you know, if it happens

(07:46):
over and over and over again, and I guess I
haven't seen if that is the trend with McCarthy's coached
teams this year. I'm not you know, when you're dealing
with so many injuries and so many plays that are
that are elevated here in this game and not playing.
Now this guy's inactive and now he's on IR and

(08:07):
now he's back, and I mean, you've got you You've
just dealt with so many guys, guys that aren't even playing,
not not practicing. Not that happens that that's to be expected.
I'm not calling giving them a pass for them, because
some of them are veteran guys that should know better,
and and and and those things. But you know, you
just can't expect to roll these many players in and

(08:28):
out of the lineup the way they do and expect
them to it to be, you know, just just clean
every time. I do think it's starting to look like
there will be some of the coaches back. But again,
I think there needs to be some wrinkles though. If
you're going to do that, I still think you have
to make some changes on on the offense. I'd like
to see some some changes maybe in the way that

(08:51):
the calls are played, the way the offense is designed,
maybe a new scheme there. There just needs to be
something tweaked or changed on the staff. Yeah, they're playing better,
but at the same time, I still think that, you know,
you've got to figure out some some new ways here.
You can't just roll this out the same because let's

(09:11):
be honest, even before some of these major injuries, it
wasn't looking good. I mean, like, you can't explain the
Saints game, the Saints that most of the starters were here,
the key players were there, they were coming off a
big win. I just the Saints aren't any good, so
you have to figure out, I mean, what what happened there?
And that was the first sign of of struggle. This year.

(09:34):
All right, let's go to Jeremy and Washington, d C.
What's up, man, How brother good? How are you?

Speaker 7 (09:43):
I'm doing all right?

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Holiday YouTube?

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Man?

Speaker 12 (09:47):
Yeah, man, that was a good dog fight we put
up yesterday. I like it.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah. Yeah, it was a fight. There's no doubt about it.
They showed a lot of fights.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (09:56):
I like how like even though the run wasn't and working,
we were still sticking to it to keep him honest,
you know what I'm saying. Because that play action was
coming in a handy for Cooper Rushland and I was
just loving it. I just wanted to call in and
say that I like how they was getting my man
Torpedo involved and they tried, they tried to hold up

(10:18):
Vi the bed the best way to could, but that
he's a pro bowler for a reason, know what I'm saying.
And I want to get big up to CD Lambs.
That's my favorite CD. I keep it on repeat, you
know what I'm saying. That's my guy, and I just
want to I just want to give him his flowers, man,

(10:38):
because you don't we don't have to do that. But
he's putting his body on the line for us. That's
all I got to say Nick and my number for today.
I already know we got us. What's the rookie with
the ninety four with the kneeling is ninety four already,
But I wanted to say ninety four DeMarcus win and

(11:00):
then I'll leave you with that, and then.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
To appreciate that. Man, I don't I don't really know
any other nineties. I mean, Randy Gregory is the only
ninety four I could think of other than Whereing Haley uh,
and then Marshawn Kneelan. I mean Randy Gregory wore it
for a little bit and kept it for a few
years even when he wasn't playing and stuff like that.
So between Haley, where Gregory and now Marshaan Kneelan Uh,

(11:31):
that's about all I can I can really remember about
ninety four because the thing about the nineties, they didn't
even really have a lot of They didn't even wear
the numbers in the nineties until I think, I think
it was like the eighties, So you know, you just
don't have a lot of players that are wearing that.
But yeah, I thought I thought you mentioned Ceedee Lamb.

(11:53):
I'll share a little story that I had with him
Tuesday or Wednesday. It was one of the shows that
you guys were just saying, man, I have a lot
of respect for him. He's been great. It was like
I think it was like Tuesday show and Tuesday Wednesday,
and then later that day on Wednesday, I saw him
in the locker room and I just told him, I said,

(12:14):
you know, I do a show with a lot of
fans calling in, and I just hope you know how
much they appreciate the way you're playing. And a lot
of times guys get the money, get the bag like
this and they kind of like, well, you know, I
why would I hurt myself even more? What are we're
playing for? And he kind of cut me off, and
he's like, the thing is is that I love football.

(12:35):
He said, I just love football, So I'm going to
play football. Is any time that I get the chance
to play football, I'm going to play football. And you know,
I thought, what a great answer. I mean, and that's
and it shows, I mean, it shows that that's what
he's doing. He's laying you know, he's layding on the line,
is his shoulders basically dragging the floor. But he's still
he's still playing through the pain. And it's it's we've

(12:57):
seen it before. That's an injury that We've seen him
at Smith do it. We've seen Darren Woodson, We've seen
a lot of players do that. Dez Bryant did that,
and it's just how much pain can you tolerate? And
that's that's what we're seeing. And I think there's a
ton of respect going out for CD. He was he's,
you know, everyone's favorite player, you know already, but what

(13:19):
he's doing and you know, coming back in, I mean,
you gotta think he goes that. He goes out and
they make an announcement on in the press box that says,
ceedee LAMB shoulder injury return is questionable. And then I'm
sure people are tweeting that out. He's in the game
and catching the ball and almost scoring a touchdown, which
he said he did score. That was a really close one.

(13:40):
And so that's how quick it was, Like that's when
we got the report. He's still out there playing and fighting.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Just just awesome display, uh for for CD. All right,
let's go to Lester, Lakeville, Minnesota.

Speaker 10 (13:54):
Man.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Hey, Lester, Now that's the way you play football. You
like that, the way you call the game that's the
way the offense have been. Defensive line on one play.
I want you to play like that all the time, Cowboys,
All right, what I'm talking about?

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Well, they they did it. I mean it was a
tough that was a tough, tough matchup that was like
a team. It looked like a team that was fighting
for the playoffs, you know, and not a team that
had just been told they're not they're not in. That's
what was impressive to me. They showed fight like they
didn't want their season to end, even though it basically
had ended.

Speaker 5 (14:33):
Yeah, that's that's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 10 (14:35):
Nick.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
Hey, I got a question for you. I know it's
kind of early, but the Philadelphia quarterback hurts. Yeah, is
he gonna play this Sunday? Or Usually a concussion protocol
you say out at least one game, so.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
You know, it used to be a full week, but
we have seen that a little bit more now I've
seen Ferguson and Bebie, both of them. They both of
those injuries happen on short weeks I believe, and so
happened on like a Monday night game or whatever. So

(15:13):
it was a short week and they did not play
the next game. I don't know. It looked like Hurts
gave the thumbs up, he was ready to come back in,
but they saw something else, and so I don't know.
I really don't know what the situation is. Hopefully he's
fine in general, you know, but I don't think anyone's

(15:34):
feelings are going to be hurt you if he didn't play.
I mean, Cowboys dealt with their quarterback being out for
a long time. And you know that's the thing. That's
what I've heard several times about about that game. Well,
you know, yeah, if they it Hurts plays they beat Washington,
that probably, you know, but you know, backup quarterbacks have
gone into Washington this year and won before I've seen it.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
Yeah, yeah, well that's all I have. I think that, uh,
the score of the game, this is coming up, with
or without hurt. Cowboys win twenty three, twenty Merry Christmas,
Happy holidays, everybody.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Great Cowboys appreciate that. Thank you. All right, let's keep
this thing going. Let's go to Rob in Vegas. Rob.
What's up?

Speaker 13 (16:16):
Man?

Speaker 5 (16:18):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (16:18):
Nick?

Speaker 1 (16:19):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (16:21):
I'm good?

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Uh. I got to give it up for Magic, Mike
and the crew. Uh, you know the.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Fact that you call it magic. Mike, Wow, the visual
there right, all right?

Speaker 9 (16:36):
I listen, you know I've been calling for a coaching change,
and uh, you.

Speaker 13 (16:45):
Know, I'm torn now.

Speaker 9 (16:47):
And I think my father has something to do with
it too, because you know he's watching the game him
and he says, listen, you gotta give a guy. I
thought Tampa Bay had the edge because they were playing
for something. Yeah, and like everybody says, it looked like
the Cowboys were playing to go to the Super Bowl, babe.

(17:08):
And it's very weird you see that because we usually
see the opposite see where like like a CD Lamb
would have took himself out of the game. Nope, micaeh, No,
it was just I don't know what was said. I
don't know who said what, but you know it's easy
to say, let's go out there. That was the hardest

(17:31):
hitting game they played it in a long time. That
the players were everybody was making plays. Donovan Wilson probably
had his best.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Game in a year, no doubt. He was flying around
the boy.

Speaker 9 (17:43):
I mean Jordan Lewis and and listen, Jerry, I don't
know what Jordan Lewis has to do to get a
more than a one year contract. I mean, this kid
just plays hard. He may not be the picture of
what you want in size, but doesn't matter. He's he
like they say, he's a he's a pickbull and he

(18:05):
deserves it. They need guys like him. Darron Bland I
thought played great. They said, wherever Mike Evans goes, you go,
and Mike Evans is a great wide receiver, and it
was just it was such a fun game to watch.
It got dicey at the end and and Brandon Aubrey.

(18:26):
I mean, you get over the fifty that that kid
was on fireless that. I don't know if I see
him kick the ball better, but I got to give
love to Mike McCarthy. I think he's going to get
a three year extension, and I think it should come
this week. I think Jerry already knows it's Christmas. Jerry,
let's let's go. I'm okay with it after seeing what

(18:50):
I've seen, I agree tweak something.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
Now.

Speaker 9 (18:56):
I don't know, do you take the play calling duties
away from him? I want to be against that, but
would he go for that? You know, given him an extension,
So that's that's kind.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Of that's gonna be tricky. You're right, you're right about that.
You give him extension. But you know, but then again,
what what options do you think he really has? I mean,
do you think he's gonna like walk and say, no,
I'm going to go and be the head coach at
this team. I don't see that happening.

Speaker 9 (19:21):
No, no, I don't see that. I don't see that
happening either. But I think if you're going to reward him,
you're you're rewarding him for what he's been doing. And
like I said, tweak it.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Zimmer.

Speaker 9 (19:35):
You gotta love how Zimma closed the game. It's like
he goes, I don't care who's on this field. I
don't care how Nick digital playing, you know, linebacker, He
doesn't care. He just says, I'm I'm gonna go after you.

Speaker 13 (19:48):
And it works.

Speaker 14 (19:48):
He yeah, he's.

Speaker 9 (19:51):
It's it was a listen.

Speaker 13 (19:53):
It was a great game.

Speaker 9 (19:54):
It's it's a shame that we can't really build on
it in the sense of taking that momentum to the playoffs.
Cooper Rush was outstanding. It's like, you know, I think
he's ninety four. I think they said, is Cooper Rush
now have the chance to be a starter somewhere else
because there's a lot of teams out there. Yeah, I mean,

(20:17):
is he playing his way off this team?

Speaker 2 (20:20):
You know, to you know the Raiders.

Speaker 9 (20:23):
You know, I'm assuming they're going to try to draft
a high draft pick tea, But is he playing his
way off this team that teams may actually start to
look at him and say, dude's nothing in four Yeah.
So but it was great, but yes, well got it.
I gotta give Magic Bike all the love.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
I love it. I love it all right, Rob, appreciate
the call and the nickname and the visual and all that.
You know, you say that about Cooper Rush. He's playing
himself into a situation now he's a free agent after
the year where he looks like he should be a backup,
not to a sixty million a year quarterback in Deck Prescott,
but one of those quarterbacks drafted high, you know, drafted

(21:05):
in the first first round, I mean first round pick
or something somebody that you're like, maybe he's ready to play,
Maybe he's not. Think about what Andy Dalton did for
you know, Bryce Young. And I know there's other other
examples too, where where you know the guys, the guys
the future, you know that. But you know, if we
if we need to play. Uh, you know Cooper Rush

(21:26):
right now, he can do that, so it might be
a situation where that's a better fit for him. But
then again, you know, he he's he's home here in Dallas,
and and and you know he almost he almost took it.
We'll tell the story when we come back from break.
But he almost went with the with the Raiders, and
you know, the weather actually kept him in Dallas, which

(21:48):
is which is kind of ironic. All right, let's let's
go to break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right
back to answer more calls Cowboys fans.

The Cowboys storyline.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Welcome back to the Cowboys storyline. We're talking Cowboys football
and the Cowboys win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on
Sunday twenty six, twenty four, from proof to seven and eight.
They won four out of five and they got two
games to go, both against the division Philadelphia and Washington.
What better way to wrap up the season and beat

(23:55):
those two teams and get to nine and eight? If
that happened, you can just you can get Mike McCarthy
can just come in with a pin, just be like,
where do I sign for a new extension? May it
may be the case. Already, Let's go to the phone lines.
Travis and san Antonio has been holding Travis. What's up?

Speaker 11 (24:13):

it was a wild game to watch, which was fun.
Good present this week. And it's a weird this is
a it's starting to become a weird evaluation. I know
you just kind of hit on that with Mike McCarthy

(24:36):
was starting to fl a weird evaluation on Mike. And
I mean before the game, I was probably seventy five
percent he was going to come back, so it's probably
only gone up. The only thing that still gives me Pausemic,
And I don't know what you think, is just the
I still can't forget what I saw the first I
guess it was the eight games that Deck was in
before you went down. Like that still sticks in my brain,

(24:58):
is like it has to be a part of the
value of how did it look before, because we can
you know, the injuries only got worse. But like, and
maybe it's just a case Nick where.

Speaker 13 (25:06):
He's just late or slow.

Speaker 11 (25:09):
To make because we've we've seen this with him. We've
started out slow in other years and then all of
a sudden pick it up. So I don't know what
if he does come back, what he has to change
to get this team off to faster starts. But that's
definitely a thing, so we'll see how that goes. I
did want to shout out Jordan Lewis, I'm sure, as
a bunch of people did last night.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
I don't know how he.

Speaker 11 (25:29):
Doesn't get the game ball. I know that Bland made
the last play of the game, but that interception for me,
that interception for me was that was game ball worthy.
So and if a dude hasn't earned a two year extension,
like as a priority going into the offseason. I know
we've said it before, but I'm gonna say it again,
Like that dude's play like he's been. He's like Brian

(25:49):
brought us to call him, like gum. He just sticks around.
People have been trying to get rid of him for years,
and like, give that dude a two year extension because
from what I've heard from the broadcast of like what
the guys think of him the locker room, Like we
always say if we need more leaders, and he probably
is one. He just doesn't get enough pub for it, sure,
and probably doesn't care either. But I just wanted to
see if you could hit on Matt and uh yeah,

(26:11):
we'll see how it goes last two games and then
go from there. But I just wanted to wish you
guys a merry Christmas and have a good one.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Thank you, Travis appreciate it. Yeah, I thought. I thought,
Jordan Lewis, that was one of the greatest interceptions that
I've seen in a while, because you got to remember,
like it's a deep ball, he's getting hit in the face,
Like they they're not going to call that, but it
looked like it was, you know, hands to the face
or face mask or something right off the bat. So

(26:39):
he's getting hit. Then he turns and looks at the
ball and it just he just grabbed it. He just
he just got it. I thought I thought it was
a touchdown. I really did. I thought it was a touchdown.
And the next thing I know, he's got the ball
and I was like, well, wait a second. You know,
they always give it to the offense here, if he's
got it for a millisecond, they're going to give it
to him. And he never did. He never, he never

(26:59):
had it. That was it was an unbelievable play. And
and same with with Duran Bland, you know, for him
to take the ball away and ain't gonna lie when
when they punted it back, I was like, this is
you know, I was looking at the Cowboys timeouts to
see if they were going to have time after Tampa
Bay has scored, are they going to have time to

(27:19):
do something and maybe get another field goal, because it
just looked inevitable that they were going to go do that,
but they didn't. They didn't, and Duran Bland made the play.
And Baker Mayfield, I mean, he's tough. You know, he
he's tough, and he gives them another dimension and that's
something that Cowboys just don't have with Cooper Rush. That's
the one thing that you don't have there is you

(27:42):
just don't have a guy that can that can kind
of make some plays and if they're if they're on him,
it's pretty much a sack or a throwaway or whatever.
But you know, you'd like to have a guy that
can kind of run around in the pocket and and
and go forward and get ten yards, get a first down,
get out of bounce, you know, make some plays like
like some of these other quarterbacks do. And so that's

(28:04):
what's even more impressive. You don't have a running game
in that game. You don't have a running quarterback. So
what it is is what it is. And and you
know it was just good enough, just good enough, and
that's a that's a big deal, you know, because that's
what they had. The difference was they have a kicker
that they were in range, a comfortable range at the

(28:26):
forty yard line. And that's just not something that every team,
every team has. All right, let's go to Robbie Coco Beach, Florida.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
What's up, Nick what's up Robb, hey man, I got
to get him a shout out to their uh oh captain,
my captain, captain Rob. I like that he's changed his
tune on a magic Mike. That's pretty awesome. I've heard
called freaky might be four by maybe Jesse Holly, but
I like magic Mike too. He works some magic.

Speaker 13 (28:52):
Hey man.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Everybody's given a given love to all our star players
and all the big ones. And I thought Nick Vigil
played a heck of a game. Man. He seemed to
be around the ball all the time. And for a
guy that's ninety nine percent special teams coming up for
a I can't remember his name now with my mind.
Yeah they heard, uh yeah Kendricks. Thanks for Kendricks. I

(29:17):
think he did phenomenal, man. I mean the whole defense
played good. Jordan Lewis and I agree he needs to
get a contract to this poor guy. Yeah, too small,
but he's a pit bull man in there fighting.

Speaker 7 (29:28):
He's great.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Yeah that's it, man. I'm loving that we won. I
was hoping the Eagles would have won yesterday. But that's
all right. Now, let's beat the Eagles and ruin their
season a little bit. Put him back in the seats
and to beat Washington the week after that? Why not'
that'd be a great way to end the season, wouldn't that.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Eight?

Speaker 2 (29:47):
I'm okay with that. We get eighteen a couple of
years ago. Wasn't that the Marcus Ware when we got him, even.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
He was eleven?

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Eleven?

Speaker 1 (29:55):
Yeah, a Bobby Carpenter at eighteen? Maybe?

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Oh god, we want to reach Bobby Coper.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Yeah, I think vander esh eighteen.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
You know solid, that's true?

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah, yeah, well, I mean Tyler Smith twenty three. Depends
what you're what you're drafting. That's the thing. You have
a lot of needs. So you know you because you
have needs. Thanks for the call, Robbie, Because because you
have needs, you can justify some of these picks. You know,
you can. You can get a a a left tackle,

(30:27):
maybe not going to be the best one, but but
you can get one. You can get a defensive tackle
if you want to do that again, try to find
a pass rusher is not going to be probably elite,
but he'll be somebody that you know, he's got some traits.
It's a good spot for a corner, you know, if
you if you want to go that route, you know,
a guard I mean, Zach Martin may not be back.

(30:49):
If you if you wanted a guard, you'd get a
really good guard probably that at that age to think
about the center, remember Graham Barton who that played against them,
just like just Monday Sunday night. And you know, I thought,
I thought, anytime you're you're gonna get an interior player.
I mean, so you you can definitely get a guy
that that's going to be uh A, you know, a

(31:12):
solid center guard, interior guy. You can get them at
any point in the draft. So the fact that they
have a lot of needs running back as well, I
mean that you have a lot of needs. I don't
know if it matters that much where where you're you're drafting,
because like like we said, I mean if it's a
if it's a player that can help them, there's a

(31:33):
lot of positions for that. So that's why I think,
just keep winning, just keep winning, keep building something here,
and wherever you pick is where you pick. All right,
let's go to Brian in Kansas City.

Speaker 17 (31:44):
Merry Christmas, sir, how are you? I'm doing fantastic man,
you know, listening to what you were saying about the
draft status and and you know what, the needs are
for next year. All I can all I can think
of is Lester. I think his name is Lester from Minnesota.
But I got the right guy. Yeah, get me somebody

(32:04):
in the trenches. Yeah, get me somebody down there, you know, big,
you know, trash can full of dirt guy or in
the middle or or and I think Mozzie's playing better lately,
but you know, just something in there. Obviously, you know,
there's a there's a lot of speculation about martin retirings

(32:25):
and whether he'll be back, so anything on both sides
of the ball. Hey, who had the green dot yesterday?

Speaker 5 (32:30):
Do you know?

Speaker 1 (32:32):
I think it was vigil Wow, So he.

Speaker 17 (32:35):
That really says something I heard was that Robbie. I
think that just said he played out of his mind.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (32:42):
I was watching and on the broadcast, I never did
see anybody with a green dot that I could see.
And he really did something specialist. He was doing both
of those that he's playing like that and making the
calls at the same time. That was really incredible.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
Yeah. Well, he was the middle linebacker in the game
started and usually that is the spot that that that
gets the green dot, is the one that that can
hear the coaches calling in for fifteen seconds or so
before they cut the mic off. But basically he's the one,
like you said, that makes the calls. So yeah, I
mean he he played like a middle linebacker. His stats

(33:20):
look like one ten tackles. You know, you wish you
It's hard to tell these players to do that, but
you know, you wish you would have slowed down a
little and just just to get that that fumble. I've
seen I've seen them practice that play to bat the
ball back inside and then you know, if you get it,

(33:41):
you get it. But I think he thought he had
enough room where he was gonna he was gonna grab
it that fumble. Uh, and that that would have been
a huge play in the game. But Cowboy still went
and got a field goal after that. But still you'd
like to get the ball at the forty yard line
of of the of the bucks there and and and
go play downhill. But still, great play by Micah, great

(34:02):
play by you know, the forcing that that fumble and
then jumping on it like that. All right, let's go
to Zach in Atlanta. Zach, what's that man?

Speaker 10 (34:13):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (34:14):
What is up?

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Nick?

Speaker 6 (34:15):
Merry Christmas? You got a Zach in the box.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
There you go.

Speaker 11 (34:20):
There's there's your snarky.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Comment for today.

Speaker 6 (34:23):
Well I got a few more. Actually, So we got
Magic Mike, he loves him a mojo moments, and we
saw the defense come through and kind of bail bail
out Magic Mike. Questionable play calling, but it all worked
out in the end. This just feels like a moral victory,
like typically the team loses, but you're looking for.

Speaker 13 (34:45):
The moral victory in that.

Speaker 6 (34:46):
Yeah, the team had nothing to play for, and yet
they went out and busted it and and there was
some hits like it was two thousand and two out there. Yeah,
you know, you know, and it was clean man, I
you know, you like it fields like football still and
there's no laundry. Everybody's alive and healthy. But you just
got some big hits. Man, that was a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
It's sad, and it's sad that you see that. In
the first thing, you're just you're just waiting for a hit.
I mean, you're just waiting to say, oh, certainly they're
going to call flag on that. You just can't hit
them too hard anymore.

Speaker 7 (35:19):
But right, they let.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Him play and they let.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
It was good.

Speaker 6 (35:24):
Yeah, they were clean hits. So but yeah, man, I uh,
you know, in the next couple of games. And I
think somebody brought this up Friday, but I really wonder
if we have a number two receiver on the roster
right now. I'm just thinking about you know, next year
and prolonging or making the most of Dak's contracts and

(35:47):
CD and you know, hopefully Micah and just capitalizing with
talent and weapons. And it just depends how we build
the team after this. You know, uh, do we be
fun the line, commit to a good running game that way,
we're not leaning so much on CD or you know,

(36:07):
if we're going to continue to be a more pass
heavy team, we got to have some better weapons to
to take the pressure.

Speaker 7 (36:15):
Off of CD.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
But we'll see.

Speaker 6 (36:18):
We had a Ryan Flinoy siding a few times.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
That was cool.

Speaker 13 (36:21):
Mayor's Lea Faud.

Speaker 6 (36:21):
Doing his thing. We had you know, Nick Vigil He's
gotten some praise already, so you know, we just this
is a season to explore who's on the roster right now,
make sure we have depth for going forward. So that's
that's what I'm watching the next couple of games and

(36:42):
some more moral victories. Let's win out.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Why not.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
Anyways, man, Merry Christmas to y'all. Take care and go Cowboy.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
Yeah, thanks Zach. Now that's a moral victory. I think
Nate Newton could could get on board with. You know,
we've gone back and forth for years on on the
moral victory part. But if you actually win in the game, Uh,
that's even better for sure. All right, let's take another
break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back to
wrap this thing up.

Doctor Sunshine and Fort Worth. I know this guy. What's up? Hey?

Speaker 10 (38:51):
Nick? Second time I've talked to you this morning.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Are you doing oh good?

Speaker 10 (38:56):
I just want to wish all your callers and their
families and Merry Christmas. I'm sure I join you in
gratitude for their loyalty and their class.

Speaker 7 (39:06):
And I'll probably.

Speaker 10 (39:07):
Embarrass you for saying this, but I'm gonna I'm your dad,
and I'm gonna say it anyway.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Okay, okay, how are you.

Speaker 10 (39:16):
No sports show host in the world gets as much
respect from their callers as you do, because no sports
show host in the world respects their callers like you do.
And you relate to cowboys fans because you are one,
and you have been just about a week after you
learn how to talk as a baby. But you've built

(39:37):
a great family for this show, just like the great
one you and Julia built at home. And I know
I also speak to your mom in Texas, Canada when
I say I'm proud of you and I love you
and have a great day.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
All right, thank you so much. That's my dad. He's
calling in, doctor Sunshine. I call him Dad. Thanks for
the call, and thanks for the kind words. And and
I do think that that you know what makes this
show work, and I think it works is the fact
that you know I can relate, I relate to you,

(40:09):
to you guys, I relate when Robin Vegas when he's
he's you know, resigned, Mike. You know, next week, if
it doesn't look good in Philly, it'll be like, hold on,
let's let's rethink this. That's what it'd being a fan is.
It's back and forth, it's roller coasters, it's it's you know,
always got an eye towards the future. But you're also

(40:29):
you know, you don't you gotta win. You gotta win
every game. That's what a diehard fan is that you
just don't want to. You're not going to lose the
to the Eagles because it helps your draft status or
Washington or anybody. It didn't matter if it was Philadelphia
this week. It could be the Colts, the Chargers here,
irrelevant Chargers. You know, you're like, no, let's win. So
but I appreciate the call, and thanks for for saying that. Yeah,

(40:54):
let's let's keep it rolling. Let's go to Griff in
San Angelo, Texas.

Speaker 14 (40:59):
Griff, how are you, sir?

Speaker 1 (41:01):
Good? How are you doing?

Speaker 7 (41:03):
I'm good.

Speaker 14 (41:04):
I called a couple of weeks back and made the
bold prediction that it sounded like a three and fourteen season.
I kind of missed the mark on that which is
a good thing.

Speaker 1 (41:13):
And you're glad you did.

Speaker 14 (41:14):
Yeah, that's yes, I am. A couple of things have
stood out every why we know Zimer Zimmer's been here before.
It's a whole new defense. And you don't see very
many defensive coordinators come in in one year and from
the first game to the end game, their system works

(41:36):
like they want it to. You usually have people that
don't fit that system. You have to make some changes.
And so I think what we're seeing is the fruits
of Zimber staying with it and not and the team
staying with it, believing in, buying in and just keep
working at it. I would hate to see what this

(41:57):
looks like if we go away from Zimmermer next year,
because you've already got a foundation for what he wants
to do and it works. Yeah, so to me, I mean,
and if that means keeping McCarthy. When you have a defense,
your offense can do a lot of different things. And
for the first part of the year, everybody was trying

(42:18):
to figure out which way to go and how to
get there. And now I think you're seeing the proofs
of that learning process.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
I agree.

Speaker 14 (42:27):
So you know, I just I think you probably I
wouldn't It wouldn't break my heart to see them come
back in fac I think it would be money ahead
to bring both on them back simply because of how
much progress that they've made. And if you make a
change and everybody's starting.

Speaker 6 (42:44):
Over from the square one at the beginning of the year,
and to me.

Speaker 14 (42:48):
You lose a year when you do that.

Speaker 1 (42:50):
Yeah, yep, Well, I mean you've seen some success, you know,
you see some sometimes new new coaches come in, and
I mean we're seeing it in in Washington, you know,
you're you see every now and again. But a lot
of that has to do with with just you know,
you whether it be just a you know, one dynamic

(43:13):
player that comes in and just sometimes they just need
a new voice. The Cowboys wouldn't be starting over from
scratch completely, you know, just with a lot of some
of the holdover players. So I do think it makes
sense to keep Zimmer back. And you know it just
it really sucks about overshown. You know, you'd like to

(43:34):
see how much overshown end digs both of those guys. Uh,
it's gonna be hard for them to be back, you know,
before the season starts, or you know, definitely at training camp.
But you know, if you if you can't have Bland
back and Leah Foul coming on and we'll see what
happens with Osa. He's a free agent. But you know,
you pair anybody on the other side with Micah and

(43:56):
you're gonna have a pretty strong, uh a defensive of
line there. All right, let's go to Sergeant Sue. He's
in Fort Worth, Texas. Sergeant Sue.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
Hey, at ease, everybody.

Speaker 18 (44:05):
How you doing, Nick? All right, man? We had our storyline.
Buddy Davian came into town last night and I took
him out to go watch the game and we had
a couple of drinks and I might still be feeling
it a little bit, to be honest, but that feel
pretty good.

Speaker 10 (44:20):
Man.

Speaker 13 (44:21):
Man.

Speaker 18 (44:22):
It was a great game, obviously with great company, but
it was a great game. I loved watching it. The
defense was out there hitting, man hitting, and I love.

Speaker 13 (44:28):
To see that.

Speaker 18 (44:29):
I love to see, love to hear it, love to
see it. You know, we're in in the bar restaurant
that we were in, and you hear the whole like
you know, everybody in there like ooh ah, you know
what I mean?

Speaker 2 (44:38):
Like I love I love.

Speaker 18 (44:39):
That, the feeling, the atmosphere, and it just makes me appreciate,
you know, the fact. Like again, I know I've said
this all season, but it just makes me appreciate the
fact that we're still watching football. You know, it may
be meaningless, we may not be going anywhere, and we have.

Speaker 2 (44:49):
A couple more games to cherish.

Speaker 18 (44:51):
But I was able to do that. I was able
to cherish. I was able to enjoy it, and the
top was putting on a show for me. You know,
I've never ever wanted them to tank and and and
not do well like I just love I was watching
it and it was really really good time. And shout
out to shout out to Captain rob Man. He's the
if he wasn't doing whatever he's doing in life, he
should be a professional stunt driver, the way he's able
to whip that car and and one eighty that thing

(45:13):
back and forth.

Speaker 5 (45:14):
You know.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
Mike McCarthy's our guy.

Speaker 7 (45:15):
Fire by McCarthy No.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
Three three three years.

Speaker 1 (45:18):
Just called being a football fan. It's being a fan
of the Cowboys. I mean, you have to do that,
you have to be figure that out right.

Speaker 18 (45:25):
And yeah, like I said, we're in the chat, so
he knows, you know, we're always talking and like, you know,
just talking with each other, you know what I mean,
So he knows that it's all I love, man. But
we were just talking about it in the chat like
we have Rob, you know, we just turned it around.
So it was cool, man.

Speaker 7 (45:40):
So yeah, I just wanted to call him.

Speaker 18 (45:41):
And I enjoyed it. I'm excited and you know, hey,
my name's not Jesus, but I am a prophet. We're
gonna win out, brothers.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
All right, you have a good day, nice all right?
Well why not? I mean, why why not? I love
though he said that about about Rob or really any
any of the fans. I mean, that's just kind of
that's what it what happens. I mean that what happens
with this team. The Cowboys forced you to be that way,
but ultimately, you know, winning games is where it's at,

(46:08):
and that that kind of gets I mean, you're just
feeling better after a win. You get a win like that,
especially a hard fought game where they weren't favored. You know,
the Cowboys haven't been favored a lot of games this year,
but they've still figured out ways to win. Sometimes it's
on the road. Hey, they get another win at home,
and it was It was kind of like the Bengals
game a couple of weeks ago, where the Cowboys just

(46:29):
found a way to lose. This time they found a
way to win. Let's go to Champ, Grand Island, Nebraska, Champ.

Speaker 7 (46:37):
What's up, hey, Nick, Good morning, Happy Victory Monday.

Speaker 1 (46:40):
Yeah, how are you doing?

Speaker 7 (46:42):
I'm doing well, man. I love victory Mondays. So I
don't care if it moves us from the eleventh to
the fifteenth. I don't care about any of that. I
like to win. There's no better feeling than winning and
knowing that we are one miscued special teams play away
from possibly being on a five game winning you know,

(47:04):
five game losing streak, the world's falling down five game
winning streak the world would have been wonderful.

Speaker 1 (47:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (47:11):
So I think that this is huge these last three weeks,
winning these games. And you know, I'm not getting ahead
of myself. I know we got two tough games coming up.
But going back to the Green Bay game last year,
in the hangover we had at the beginning of this
year that I think that affected that team early on,
along with a lot of this stuff, you know, new

(47:31):
defensive coordinator and whatnot. But hey, we could build that
momentum at the end of this season. Let's let that
carry over in the next year. Maybe we started a
little quicker and we have something going a little sooner.
I don't care about draft picks right now. I want
to win games.

Speaker 1 (47:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (47:49):
I thought McCarthy called a really good game for the
most part. I liked that he opened the offense up.
It seemed Mike. I don't know why we hadn't seen
that before. Maybe it was just right time. Got a
little nervous there at the end. I thought, oh man,
I've seen this play out way too many times. But
then we have do Ron Blam save the day. There

(48:11):
A defense played great. I keep going back, like you
said earlier. I believe it was the I'm not sure
if he's here on Talking Cowboys. Somebody said something about
Mike is saying when he said by the end of
the season, you'll be saying this is a great defense,
and everybody laughed at us, laugh at him, and they're there,
that's right. So with that, I just want to say that, Hey,

(48:32):
we got a great week coming up. Let's beat Silly
and marry Christmas. The U and Ben hope you guys
have a wonderful holiday, Go Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (48:40):
Thanks all right, Champ, thank you so much for the call.
And yeah, like I like what you said, and you're
right about that. You know, Micah said it a few
weeks ago, he said this is this is a good team,
and you're right. He did get laughed at. And you know,
they're playing good right now. I don't think this is
a good team. I mean, I seven and eight isn't

(49:02):
a good record. Uh, it's it's below average a little bit.
You know, they have a chance to be about an
average team. This is this is where a lot of
the league is. They're not a good team this year.
They're not a bad team. And that's that's what we've seen.
When they play the good teams, they they typically don't win.
They you know, beat Pittsburgh, they beat Washington. I think

(49:25):
they're better than Washington. I'll stand on the table for that.
I mean, I just think they are. Just think that,
you know, records, schedule matters and things like that. But
I think the matchup wise, I think that they're better.
That they'll get to play them again at the end
of the season, we'll see, But but I just think overall,
I think, you know, it's not a bad team. It's
not it's not a good team really, but but they're

(49:46):
playing good right now, and uh that's there's something to
be said for that. And I think I think you're right.
I think Rob was right. I think a lot of
these callers are right. I think Mike McCarthy deserves some
credit for the way that he's got this team playing.
He's got them prepare, he's kind of playing hard for
whatever the reason. They're out there hitting people that they're
playing to play football. It was a fun game and

(50:07):
you know, it's one of those things where we'll see,
you know, two more games and maybe the Cowboys can
do that again. So all right for Chris Beam, I'm
Nick Eatman. With schedule is on Tuesday. We will be
have another show on Tuesday. We'll have a show every
week but Wednesday for Christmas Day, but we'll have a
shows Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I hope everyone has a

(50:27):
merry Christmas and we will see on Tuesday on Cowboys Storyline.

Speaker 4 (50:31):
