Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
This is Cowboys Storyline with Nick Eatman.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
What's up?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Welcome to Cowboys Storyline, Tuesday, December seventeenth.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
I'm Nick Eveman.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
We have different showtime today, had to shuffle some things around.
But still for the most people that are that are
watching this later on or watching this at night, they we'll.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Know the difference.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
So all good. We already got callers on the line.
We're gonna take calls all day long, so and we've
got the shows all day long as well. It doesn't
stop even when we move things around, even when Chris
is not in the office. It looks like Jazz is
back there rolling things today. So all right, let's go
to uh, let's start it off with the calls. Let's
get right after it here Irene and falls Church, Virginia

(00:57):
has been on the line. Irene, what's up guy?

Speaker 5 (01:00):
Good morning? Shout out to Jazz for subn today. Couldn't
leave you hanging with the time change. Just in case,
you know, I had to call in. I'll give you
my question to comments and then take your answers off
air to keep the lines clear. Don't think it sounded
like there was an injury up down during Lewis yesterday.
I haven't seen anything come through today, so wondering about that,
especially with Digs out for the season. Buccaneers obviously have

(01:23):
Mike Evans, and then this McMillan kid really shown up
since Godwin went down. I think the other thing is
that this will be a huge game for Kendricks and
Leafile with both running backs. I have Rashadway on my
one of my fantasy teams and he is great as
a receiver on screens and wheel routes, so that's something
to watch. One last thing, shameless plug for the storyliner's community.

(01:46):
Our guy Travis and san Antonio has started a draft show.
Doesn't mean we won't watch your draft show.

Speaker 6 (01:51):
We will.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
It'll it'll air Monday night. They're going through position groups.
There's a couple other guys who started with them. They
don't call him the show, but they listen. Kyle and
Cason shout out to them. I'm forty five minutes into
a two hour and fifteen minutes podcast. We're discussing the legedness,
so I'm loving it. All right, that's it. Thanks so much.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
All right, thank you. I did see that.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
I did see the there was a draft another draft
Show Storyliners edition. That's a that'll be interesting. And it
sounds like you guys are already starting it. That's that's
one of the things that for us, we've always kind
of tried to figure out when's the best time to
do that. Personally, I think I think starting it in

(02:35):
January is fine. You know, let's wait till everybody declares
for the draft and and see who's out there and
see what the order is and all that good stuff.
But you know what, in a season like this, people
want to just go ahead and start thinking about, uh,
next year, next year. You know, they're they're oh, and oh,
I haven't won it or lost any games. So I

(02:55):
get that concept as well, but it's just there's to me,
there's just a lot, uh, you know, to figure out,
and and nothing really happens until they you know, and
they start getting pro day's and combine and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
That's when it starts to heat up.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
So I always kind of, you know, I would wait
a little bit, but you guys, hey, get after it.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Have some fun with that.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
As Irene was talking about Tampa, you know, they're obviously
playing better. I think they've won four straight games, so
you know, they they were in there, they were They've
had a tough year as far as like their fans go,
as a roller coaster type. You know, they've had somewhere.
You know, they beat Detroit and they beat Philly. When
they beat Philly in week four. I mean, I don't

(03:36):
think Philly has lost since then. They haven't, but but
it certainly didn't look like one team was gonna win
like ten in a row. One team was gonna kind
of go have an up and down year, just the
way Tampa won that game. But but you know, they
they've had some a rough patch there, Baltimore, Kansas City,
San Francisco, Baltimore.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
I mean, those are tough losses.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
But since then they've won four straight games and and
they're in place in their division, I believe, so they
have an opportunity to do some things. But you know,
the way Dallas is playing too, it'll it'll be uh,
it should be a good one, you know. I know
there's some talk about flexing this game down at some point,
but you know, it's the Cowboys and Cowboys, and so
you know they're they're playing better. Tampa Bay's obviously playing better,

(04:18):
so I think it's gonna work out fine for NBC.
All right, let's go to Brian in Kansas City.

Speaker 7 (04:26):
Good afternoon, sir.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
How are you?

Speaker 7 (04:29):
I never get to say good afternoon, Nick?

Speaker 2 (04:31):
I know, I know it's it's rare. I mean, you
you could. You can always say it. You know, you
can say whatever you want, you know, but you can
say happy, happy Monday, even when it's not so.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
But I understand what you're saying.

Speaker 8 (04:44):
Proud of that, And like Irene, I'll double down and
jazz handle them out handling business this morning.

Speaker 7 (04:50):
We always love to talk to her, and boy, she's
got this thing running smoothly.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Yeah she does.

Speaker 7 (04:56):
So I got two things. One is kind of a
big picture your question, and then one is of this
week question. Okay, so just knowing who we're facing this week,
and I want to know. I don't not asking what
you think the Cowboys are going to do. I want
to know what you think. I think if it was me,
I'd put mcclomalo on Evans, just for body style, just

(05:18):
for the body type. I mean, just put the biggest
guy out there, and you know, maybe you know, put
the safety over the top or whatever. But that's what
I think I would do, kind of like interested to
see what your opinion on that is.

Speaker 8 (05:32):
And then you know, I called in on the break
this morning and through this they called it a grenade
into the mix when everybody's healthy. And you know, I'm
making the guests that Martin might hang up as tweets,
would you want Hoffman at center and BB.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
At guard or the other way around? And I'll hang
up and take that one off air brother.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Okay, all right, thank you, I'll answer that are first.
You know, let's I think that their body types are similar.
That's why it was a It was a good competition
at center. I would I would imagine, you know, baby

(06:17):
didn't play center in in college and then the knock
on him was that he didn't have long enough arms
to play guards, so that's why they they put him
at center. Yeah, if they're let's see who the who
the Let's see what the coaching staff looks like. Let's
see what the running game looks like. You know, if
is there going to be a new coach? Is there
gonna be a new offensive line coach? I mean, those

(06:38):
those are questions that you know, if you're gonna ask
those for down the road, and then I think that
all the cards have to be on the table. It's
a good question, and it's hard to answer because I
think one person could see it one way, one person
could see another. I think it's got to come down
to comfort. You know who who also can can do this,

(07:00):
and that is Hoffman. Is he better at guard than
he is center? Those are just things that need to
be kind of graded out. But it's a good question
because I think it's it's one that could go either way.
And sometimes when you have, you know, close calls, it
comes down to uh, tiebreakers, and the tiebreaker here could
be shotgun snaps, you know who does who does that better?

(07:24):
Who makes the calls better? Who reads the defense better?
So good, good, good question there, And I don't have
a great answer. I think if they both can play,
they'll line up and and and that really could be
the case because Hoffman is just doing too much when
he's in the game for it to be a coincidence.
You know, the first game that he played Arizona, they lost.

(07:45):
They didn't do well in the red zone. He maybe
blame some of it on him, but they ran it well.
Then he played again against Washington at the end of
the season. Washington wasn't very good, had guys out a
lot of points score this year that he's gotten in
the game. But now he's playing, and he's playing against
pretty good teams, pretty good defenses, and and they keep
doing better and better each week. So I think he's

(08:05):
a big part of it as well. And then your
first part about mccuamu versus Mike Evans, I mean it's
not I mean, it's not always first and goal with
the five, you know, it's not always fades.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
So when you see that, you're like, oh, that would
be a good matchup.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
But what about at midfield when mccamu's got to turn
those hips, he's got to he's got to, you know,
run with it. It could be a five yard slant,
it could be a stop, it could be it could
be a go. That's why Mike Evans is in a
very very you know, rare company when it comes to
what he's done. I believe he's the only player in
NFL history to start his career with like nine straight

(08:47):
one thousand yard seasons. He may be up to ten
at some point, uh now, and maybe at ten he
he's so good, and he's and he's good on the
entire field. Mccuamu hasn't proven, you know, hasn't had the
opportunity all the time, but hasn't really proven to be
that shutdown corner or that, you know, just every down corner.
So I don't know if I like that. I think

(09:07):
I think your best cover guy's got to be on him.
That your best guy. And even though he doesn't match up,
you know, height wise, it could be drawn bland, but
I would probably go that route. Maybe when you get
to the red zone, you want to try something different.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
I'm fine with that. All right, Let's go to Jeff
and Salt Lake City. Hey, Nick, how are you good?
How are you doing?

Speaker 6 (09:27):
Hey, I'm doing good. It's been a while since I
talked to you, but just just wanted to let you know.
I listened to every show and have kind of heard
everything over the last little bit, but I just wanted
to give you my thoughts. I hope I'm not backtracking
a little bit, but just over over the last you know,
they talk about us winning three of the last four games,
which is great. I don't ever root for Dallas to lose.

(09:50):
I love the draft, just like everybody else. I'd love
the higher draft pick, but a win is a win
and I'll take it. But in regards to a potential coach,
new coaching staff, or head coaching search following this season,
if it happens or not, I hope the Jones the
Jones Boys just take in the totality of the season.

(10:11):
And I know, like you've said in the past, taken
to the totality of the past five seasons, you can't
discount the three, twelve and five seasons. But I just
don't feel that this coaching staff gives us an advantage.
Earlier in the year, they were a lot of the
players were talking about not focused, practices were terrible and
all that kind of stuff, and that falls on your

(10:33):
coaching staff. That's where I and I know they've been
playing well over the last you know, three to four weeks,
but look who we've played. We played the bottom barrels
of the bottom barrels of the NFL, and those are
the teams that we've beaten. So I'm listening to the
Jones Boys over their interviews over the last couple of

(10:54):
days and listening to what Steven says, it seems like
the excuse for this season if things continue to kind
of digress, is going to be the injuries. I just
want to throw a comparison out to you, like, look
at Detroit is going through the same thing right now,
Like they have a skeleton crew out there on defense,
and they're twelve and two. Although we lost our quarterback.

(11:16):
Our team wasn't playing well even when Dak was playing.
We were three and five when he got hurt. So
I don't want them to use the injuries as an
excuse for a lost season.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
One more thing, why that though, But but but here's
the thing. Okay, Detroit, who else? I mean, because Detroit,
Detroit did not lose Gothy. They didn't and and let's
see what happens when they you know, they lost their
running back, they lost Aiden Hudginson. I know that they
have done a good job and they're not Detroit. Detroit
is on a higher level. But but so if it's

(11:48):
not the injuries, I mean, like, is it just coaching?
You think it's it's just coaching.

Speaker 6 (11:53):
Well, but you say Detroit's on a higher level.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
So does that?

Speaker 6 (11:56):
Does dude, the Joneses actually believe that? Do they believe
coming in this year that they could compete with Detroit. Well,
say that they're on a higher level.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Well, they're, they're a better team, and that we we
saw that when they came in here and dominated the game.
I mean they are, they are on a higher level
for for this year. No one's comparing the franchises. I
mean Detroit, No, Yeah, Detroit's still gonna looking for their
best win of all time. I mean they're they're they're
seeking it now. So but my point is is, if

(12:26):
is it just is it coaching now? Is I mean,
was it not coaching in twelve and five? But now
it is, like, I don't know, you have to throw
in you have to I mean that's part.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
And I agree, I agree. I agree. We had some
like some losses all the way back into training camp,
so I agree with you there.

Speaker 9 (12:44):
I just don't want.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
Them to come out and then and then just say
it's all injuries. And then when it comes into free
agency this coming off season, listening to what Steven's saying,
he's going back to the cap, things like that, I
don't want him them to come out and say like, well,
look what we're getting back next year, that's gonna make
us better. Meanwhile, we're not adding anything. We have ten

(13:06):
draft picks. We're going to have a lot of potential
free agent losses this offseason with ohs Uh and Goalston
on the defensive line, Jordan Lewis, we're going to be
losing a lot and we're not going to have enough
assets to be able to replenish that in the draft.
So that I just I'm hoping there's going to be
a potential mindset change, and whether that's a new coaching staff,

(13:28):
a new regime that comes in, I just hope that
things change for the better, you know, all right, I
don't know, Nick, I'm venting a little bit. I'll let
you kind of.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Okay, No, I appreciate it, Jeff appreciate the call, and
and you're not wrong in that, and that nobody wants
to hear the excuse part of it. Let's let's throw
this part out there. This is you're going to hear
this side from from the front office because we heard
it in camp when in training camp Jerry said, we

(13:59):
got ten Pro Bowl on this team. We have ten
guys and I think fourteen guys who have been to
the Pro Bowl, but ten guys that were in a
Pro Bowl. Eight of them are position guys. Let's just
I mean Aubrey and Anger. Those guys don't get hurt.
They've been they've been good, they've been fine for sure.
Your eight position guys that you have, those are the
guys that they were counting on. Six of those guys

(14:20):
have been on injured reserve this year and it missed
that four games or more. And I don't mi like
it wasn't on injured reserve, but he's missed four games
or more. He should have been on injured reserve. And
so that's that's significant. That's not just what everyone's dealing with.
That's that's significant. Those are the guys they were leaning

(14:40):
on and and they got hurt, and they got hurt
a lot. Now when you said before that, I mean
that they weren't playing well. Look at the New Orleans game,
great example. We saw the problems right then and there,
and there were a lot of these guys still still there,
still healthy. So I'm not giving them a complete pass
on that. But you have a chance to get better,

(15:01):
turn things around. Yeah, it was one game, two games, whatever,
let's let's get better and play better. And and then
when that was happening, the injuries just never stopped, never stopped.
So I think injuries are part of it. It's not
all of it, though, And so I'm I'm with you
on some and I think I think it is a
legitimate for them to say, you know, kind of what if.

(15:23):
But if you know, I do think that that McCarthy's
done a nice job in the in the five years
that he's been here. Uh, they didn't forget how to coach,
but but they they knew that this year was going
to be tough, that their depth was going to be tested.
They could not they could not afford to have key injuries,
and they had a ton of them. And you know,

(15:44):
I think when you add those together, that's kind of
what you what you end up with. All right, let's
go back to the phone lines here, Travis and san Antonio.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
What's up man?

Speaker 10 (15:54):
Hey, Nick, how's it going good?

Speaker 4 (15:56):
How are you good?

Speaker 10 (15:57):
Shout out to Jazz in the back for being I'm
and doing a great job. I don't know, I haven't
been able to listen to the show, but I'm kind
of picking up I guess that's sort of what I've
kind of hitting soul places on the same stuff you
guys have talked about. But I was having a little
Twitter chat with Rick in Massachusetts and then Mike across
the pond about some stuff, and actually it was a

(16:18):
thread that Derek hauld comment on. All positive stuff, Nick,
none of the like normal Twitter stuff where people are
getting crazy, just good conversation. And I guess I look
at Mike McCarthy. My only thing with Mike McCarthy is
it sounds like Jerry's saying that him and Zim are
tied together and they definitely it sounds like they definitely
want Zim back, which means Micha will probably be back.

(16:41):
And my thing is I just I said it after
Dak went down in the Atlanta game, Nick, and I
think it's kind of the thing you were just talking about,
Like I'm I'm judging him, like don't forget, we can't
forget like how the offense looked before Dak went down.
I'm not going to absolve you know, the whole season
on offense of well, you know, we had injuries, we

(17:02):
have a pre Dak how to look and we saw
some of the same issues, which I think might have
been what you were just talking about, But we saw
some of the same issues on offense that we saw
in the previous years, so I don't think that can
be ignored, right, But then I wanted to spin it
forward because we talked about, you know, now all of
a sudden we have a backp quarterback end. You see,

(17:24):
we were talking about it like going in a nine
or down, about just maybe trying to commit more on
remember that call, but commit more to the run. Now
you start seeing Nick like Mike has sort of gone
that route because and maybe this is a speculation my part,
but because he has Cooper Russian there, he's starting to
commit to the run a little bit more and make
an emphasis. And we can sit here and say, oh,

(17:44):
it's just brought off and being in for Zach, but
that's not true because I mean, if I told somebody
that we have a Doga starting at left tackle against Carolina,
then he goes to right guard, then you have broadcop
from going to right guard going to center. I mean,
and the weird thing is, Nick, we're just plugging offensive
line in there and still running the ball. Well, So
I do think sometimes it comes back to even though

(18:06):
it sounds, it's not just the simple Nick, but just
making a commitment to run the ball, getting your offensive
line moving forward and all of a sudden, pass protection
becomes a little easier because you wear guys down. So
I want to hit you with this and let you
let you answer it. But you made a comment yesterday
about Greg Olsen being a great commentator, and I agree.
He asked the question Nick that I want to get

(18:27):
your opinion on going into next year because if Mike
McCarthy is here, He asked during the game on the broadcast,
I think this team and Mike McCarthy especially, is going
to have to look at how they're winning games last
year and how they're winning games right now, and does
the way that they're winning games right now running the
ball serve them better to make a deep run the
playoffs versus the way they were doing it before, like

(18:49):
last year. So I just want to see you thought
on that.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Okay, thank you, thanks to the call, Travis. You know,
I agree with that because we found that out. We've
been seeing that here in the last few years. Playoff
football does come down to the running game. And and
I know the NFL has changed control a more wide
open passing league and all that, but you still got

(19:12):
to run the ball. And the Cowboys were were blown
out last year at home by by Green Bay that
committed to doing that, and and they were better at
running it, and they ran it right down the Cowboys
throwing then nothing they could do about it. And the
year before and they lost to the forty nine ers,
same type of thing. It was a running game. It
was a physical type game. And I think that's what
happens in the playoffs, and you have to figure that out.

(19:34):
I think you're right about that, that they're they're doing things.
It's not just you know, it's it's not just because
they're playing bad defenses or they're just.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
You know, commitment to run.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
It's they have to do that. I mean, Cooper Rush
is limited. He's been solid here and he's and he's
won some games, but we see it like doesn't hit
this the simple throws sometimes, you know, he just doesn't
have the arm talent for it. He doesn't have any

(20:06):
like real wiggle in the pocket of you know, moving
around and and and if they get you know, their
hands on you, he's pretty much sacked or you know,
you're gonna throw it away quick or whatever.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
So he's limited in that. They have to focus on
running it.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
And now the question is, and I think that's what
either you're alluding to or Greg Olsen's alluding to.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
We're all looking at it here.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Is that if you if you need to be that
type of team that relies on the run, then should
you have a sixty million dollar quarterback. I mean, that's
that's kind of what it comes down to. And and
and I think Dak has always needed to help Most
quarterbacks do. Most quarterbacks do need a running game, Patrick Mahomes,
he needs one, you know, some more than others, but

(20:53):
I definitely think they need a running game for sure.
All right, let's go to break here on on Cowboys storyline,
and we got a couple more calls on the line.
We're going to get to, but we'll be right back
after this on Cowboy Storland.

in Kansas City?

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Funny Nicks? How you doing, Casey, Joe Man? How you?

Speaker 13 (23:17):
How are you doing doing great?

Speaker 4 (23:19):
This morning?

Speaker 13 (23:19):
Nick? How are you doing today?

Speaker 4 (23:21):
Great? What's up?

Speaker 13 (23:22):
I'm thinking about the running back situation. I know Dalla's
looking pretty decent, but I know that Zeke's on a
one year deal. Cooks is on a one year deal.
That would leave Looky and Duce, Vaughan and Davis. Do
you think we should go high in the draft with
a running back just so that we have a backup
for Donald.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yeah, I mean you may not have Daddell. He's he's
a free agent too. I mean he's I mean, the whole,
the whole running back room is uh is up in
the air right now, and so you know, I think
I think it would it would probably be a good
situation for him to re sign. Let's see what the
money looks like, but you know, he might. He probably
gonna get a thousand yards and I don't know if

(24:06):
that's still the same as it used to be, but
for how things started and how he's playing here down
the stretch, he's going to get some kind of contract
and and I think it would make sense to be
here for him. You know, he knows this system or
whoever whatever the system is. But still he knows the team,
he knows the organization, and he's going to have a
good chance to to you know, be the starter. But yeah,

(24:27):
to answer your question, I would draft of running back.
I didn't have to be in the first round, of course,
but any other round, if if the if the fact
that you like is there, I it justifies for me.

Speaker 13 (24:40):
Yeah, me too, especially since we went high on Zeke
and we had a really good running back when we
went with, you know, one of the top picks on them,
so and that would help Dack out when when he
comes back. You know, I think he's going to need
that running I do.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Too, and I could see it back similar Like I'm
not I'm not saying this. I don't get involved tampering here,
but I'm just saying it was a couple of years ago,
second round pick, was it h Chan from Miami?

Speaker 4 (25:05):
A speed guy.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Somebody liked that, A fast, a fast running back that
that that can do some things out of the backfield
a little bit different than the Rico. I think that
would be a nice complimentary back if you need that kind.
But then again, remember free agencies first. Then the draft
you may lose Rico. Then you may need an every
down back as well. So we'll see, we'll see how

(25:29):
how it happens here. But yeah, they need to get
a younger running back at some point here in the draft, right.

Speaker 13 (25:36):
And the other thing I had is I think that
Brooks has really good hands on the wide receiver group.
I mean, every time they throw him the ball, he
seems like it's it's like, I don't know, if he's
got some click just sketches it. Yeah, I mean to me,
they should throw him the ball a little more. Yeah,
he seems a little more accurate.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Yeah, Jalen Brooks. You're talking about Jalen Brooks. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
all right, all right, thanks for the call, case, Joe
appreciate that. You know, Jalen Brooks has been it's it's
kind of been up and down for him. He talked
about it after the game. He said that, you know,
there's been some frustrating moments this year. He's been inactive
a couple of times, just healthy, scratch, inactive. They tried

(26:19):
to get Ryan Flinoy in there. They want to get
Jonathan Mingo. They made a trade for for Mingo. So
but through that, he's still done a nice job. And
when you when you look at the last let's see,
it's been three games since Washington games earlier, that's been
four games. The last four games. He's had a couple

(26:39):
of plays there that were not that Washington game. He
made a catch on the sideline right before the half.
I thought that that changed a lot. They got a
field goal out of that, got some momentum going into
the locker room and and and that was a big catch.
And then of course he had the touchdowns, first touchdown
of his career. So he's he's one that he doesn't have,

(27:00):
you know, great speed, he doesn't have great size.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
I think he's got good hands.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
I don't know if they're great, but but he's one
of those guys that he's got a lot of traits,
but not one or two that just stands out. But still,
you know, if you kind of package it all together
and you and you run the right route and you
have good crisp routes and you know where you're supposed
to be, he could play multiple positions, then you have
some value. And I think he's doing that. He's a
good young young player. All right, let's go to our
next caller, Ali and Florida. How are you pretty good?

Speaker 9 (27:32):
Buddy?

Speaker 14 (27:32):
How about you?

Speaker 4 (27:33):
Well?

Speaker 2 (27:34):
First, I'm doing great, and I'll say this before we
get started here. I want I want to say this
to everyone and especially you though, and I speak for
Chris as well.

Speaker 4 (27:43):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
You've talked before that you are a photographer and wildlife
and you send us a couple of very beautiful photos.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Framed photos.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
Uh, the artwork is unbelievable and you've got such a
great talent and and your generosity is very much appreciated,
So thank you so much for doing that.

Speaker 9 (28:06):
We love you, thank you for what you do. Yeah,
it's just a little thank you note from all of us.
I love the community. It's you know, besides wildlife, I
do a lot of war photography, and believe it or not,
it's just like online and relaxed. When I listen to

(28:26):
our storyline, which is is great, everybody has a little out.
So having said that, I want to shout out to
you and Chris and all the storyliner including Missus Jazz Harry,
Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year. And I want
to especially thank Rob, Captain Rob and Randy and Dylan

(28:52):
for all the effort and everybody. I don't want to
single out, but I learned every time I listen to them.
So I have a Christmas wish. I wish Lester Dylan
get on board and create some kind of get together
in ARCSNAR for whoever want to participate. I think it's

(29:14):
a great idea. And then I would love to get
you in the room with Rob and the rest of
the group without your cell phone, and don't put you
in the position because I know you're accompaniment and you
cannot only say certain things and you cannot. I just
want to get you an honest opinion when nobody check it.

(29:38):
You know, that would be great. My Christmas movie is
It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on thirty four. And
then the question I have for you is this. I
don't know how much you can elaborate on it. I
say that I hang up out listen now that the

(30:01):
Cowboys in basting back sixty million dollars. I'm a visual guy.
I think that is at his best when they had
a great offensive line in front of him. When his
rush rush rush don't have time, then he lose that edge.
So I think Cowboys they should maybe package something. Maybe

(30:26):
they move off, get a solid left tackle and move
guide them to the right tackle, and then the rest
of the boys are they can mix a match them.
But I think personally I'm speaking, I think we had
a little drop off for the offensive line.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Coach, we had.

Speaker 9 (30:47):
A good one before this year. I don't know I'm
right or wrong. This is my I thought maybe we
had a little bit of drop off. But I will
take your opinion off the phone.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
Thank you for everything, all right, Thanks Ollie, appreciate that
I got really two really nice, uh photographs. One of
them is just is it's like a family of elephants.
It's just really awesome.

Speaker 6 (31:18):
Though.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
It's like you know, from Wildlife, and I was telling Chris,
I should just put it like right here, you know,
it would be not only be beautiful, but it's kind
of like the elephants.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
In the room, you know.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
I mean, I don't know, bad joke anyways, Allie, thank
you so much. Appreciate that, and hint to everybody else
that's out there that that has resources to whatever it
is that they do their skills.

Speaker 15 (31:43):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Chris and I accept gifts all the time. Uh No,
I really appreciate that. Awesome said a lot of things.
I'll say this though, you said Jazz Jazz wants gifts too.
Jazz likes she gets a lot of gifts. But I'll
say this about the you said at training camp. Take

(32:05):
your phone away and then I could just really say
what I believe. I mean, I tone it down.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
I have a you know, potty mouth sometimes, but as
far as the things that I believe, I mean, it's
it's rare that I'm sitting here just biting my tongue
and don't say that. I I you know, what I
think about this team.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
I try.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
I just try to be fair and down the middle.
If it looks good, it's good. If it's bad, it's
it's bad. I mean, and yes, yes, it's a little
different with us.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
We know that.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
And we're sharing uh, you know, hallway space and and
and buses sometimes and airplanes all the time with people
and and they have different agendas and you have to
be kind of careful about that. But you know, at
the same time, I mean, i'd like to think if
it's if it's bad. I mean, I get the freedom
to say that, and and and I do and so

(33:02):
and I you know, and I have and I have
my opinions about a lot of things about next year.
But what I say is is that next year's next year.
We got to get through this. And I know no
one's talking about you know, well, I don't say no one.
Irene started off the show talking about the bucks. But
for the most part, you know, that's not not breaking
down everything that's happened. And I get that, I totally
get that. But that's why I feel like the offseason

(33:23):
is long enough. We'll talk about coaches, we'll talk about draft.
We'll talk about for all that stuff when it's really
time to do that. Right now, you've got twenty five
free agents, You've got twenty or so coaches that are
coaching for their life, you know, including the head coach down.
You got guys that are coaching and playing for for
for their jobs. So you know, I, if they're doing that,

(33:45):
then that's that's kind of where I think the primary
focus should be. That's kind of why I have the
attitude that I have there. All right, let's go to
Ronnie in New Jersey. Ronnie, what's up man?

Speaker 14 (33:55):
What's how are you well? Nick that you said that
somebody did have a good question for you earlier, and
they were saying about Huffman and bbi Uh, I think
the question was put not in the correct way. Maybe
maybe it's who has the higher ceiling and at which position?

(34:19):
According to that then then you know, I think that's
how you would go. Who will be better at center
or who will be better at guard, and who where
their ceiling would be in those positions, That's how I
would play them. Yeah, and and and yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
But who determines that, you know, well.

Speaker 14 (34:38):
That that's gonna be to whoever the coaches are right next.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
Year, right, And that's that's kind of what my point was,
is like, yeah, and I'm all for that at least
if this guy's gonna be great here and this guy
is a chance to be pretty good. You know, it
was always the case. Was Zach Martin always the case?
He could play tackle. I don't think he was going
to be a Hall of Fame tackle. He was gonna
be a Hall of Fame guard. Same with So that's
how you play him. So you're you're right in that,

(35:03):
and I just who's gonna well, I don't know if
the people that make those decisions are actually here right now.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
I don't know that. Go on.

Speaker 14 (35:11):
You know, I was going to tell you because I
was going to ask you about the defense. Uh, I
see that they're playing much better or the sea playing better.
He's he's actually playing how everybody the expectations were of
him coming into the season, and he's playing that much

(35:32):
better now late into the season. Is that something that
you've seen where you will consider saying, let's say, I
know you don't want to speak about, you know, the
features the future, but in the let's say the draft
came down, free agency comes in, first, which I think
that's changed, that it should be draft first than free agency.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Sometimes I think that way too, and then other times
I'm I'm like, no, no, I like it like this,
So I'm I'm with you on that one.

Speaker 5 (36:00):
Right.

Speaker 14 (36:01):
So, so our problem has been and for since the nineties,
I would say, or since since Bill Parcells was here,
since Bill Parcells left us, because when he was here,
we had a we had a great run defense. But
since that that era, we haven't had this at least

(36:21):
very good run defense or you know, almost almost. You
can't run against this team, you have to pass, right,
If we had a dominant defensive tackle, and and that's
what I would go for. Like this year, we've been
drafting offensive lineman. Yeah, I'm not saying. Let's say we
had like a Slater Slater that when Parsons came out

(36:43):
and it was between Slater and Parsons. Yeah, well, if
there was a tackle like that, then yeah, grab that guy.
But if there's a defensive lineman, defensive tackle, I think
we got to upgrade our our our run defense and
get some pass rush out of that defensive tackle because
right now, yeah, we're getting it out of O Digitsua.
But you know, I see that when I heard that

(37:07):
our nose tack was cleaning a little bit better. But
we need a lot more, need a lot more out
of that position. Opinion.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
All right, Ronnie appreciate that. I agree, Uh, defensive tackles spot,
you know, and they tried. I mean they they drafted
Mazzie first round pick, and they hadn't picked in the
first round a defensive tackle in over thirty years, and
so they kind of thought, hey, taking them here would
be good. And he's been he's been solid this year.

(37:34):
You know, he's still he's still after almost two seasons.
He's probably not where you would want him your first
round pick to be after two seasons. You know, in
the first round pick, you'd like for them to to
maybe be in consideration for a Pro Bowl and you
know that that kind of stuff. That's kind of what
happened with I think Byron Jones about that time for

(37:58):
him and entire Tyler Smith. I'm talking about late late
first rounders like that, but not not Mozzi. And we'll
see about Geiton. This year just hasn't been what we
thought there. But yeah, I'm with you on the defensive
tackle position. It's gonna be hard to replace Osa there.
If he does leave in free agency, it's gonna be
hard to resign him. I can guarantee that, but we'll

(38:19):
see if that's one of their top priorities to do that.
All right, let me go to another break here, last
one here on Cowboys storyline. Will be right back for
a couple more calls.

What's up?

Speaker 6 (39:55):
Nick?

Speaker 17 (39:55):
How are you? Man?

Speaker 4 (39:56):
I'm good?

Speaker 14 (39:57):
Are you?

Speaker 17 (39:58):
You just can't get away from some of them. You know,
you move the time. I know, and we'm glad.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
I wasn't trying to get away from I was really
I appreciate you guys, this crew more more than ever.
I don't like to change the times around. This will
be the only time we do we change it up
this week, but Friday show will be canceled. They're only
we're only doing half of our shows We only did
half the shows last Thursday, and we were one of them.

(40:24):
But on Friday or they're making up for it, we
won't do shows on Friday. But I hate, I hate
having to switch up the times. I appreciate mix Shots
for doing a swap, and I appreciate you guys for
being a part of it.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
What's up?

Speaker 17 (40:36):
Zech sure thing? Well? Hey, twas the game before Christmas,
and all through the star came calls from storyliners near
and far. It's hosted by Nick, produced by Beamon Jazz,
and led by the Captain in Vegas and come classing
opinions on what will take us to greatness? And that's

(40:58):
all I got because the fly left and right, you
know what I mean. I started writing that on the break,
Yeah you know, yeah I mean, and then you came
knocking on the door.

Speaker 4 (41:06):
I love it. I love it. That's good.

Speaker 17 (41:08):
Yeah, when you I'll try to that out.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
No, that's when you added Jazz in there, which I
appreciate and I know she does as well.

Speaker 4 (41:17):
Jazz Jazz.

Speaker 17 (41:18):
I know Josh is behind there sometimes yeah maybe today,
But when.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
You added her, that made me know that this was
you know, this wasn't something we've been working on since
the fifth grade. I mean, you know, we've been new.
This is pretty new, so I like it.

Speaker 4 (41:30):
I like it.

Speaker 7 (41:31):
It was slow and run, not fifth grade.

Speaker 17 (41:33):
I right out a sixth grade level, so let's get
that clear.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
Well, when you said jazz and then you said rob,
I thought you might be rhyming another word with that.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
I was like, whoa, whoa, what are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (41:43):
But it's good ppg on here.

Speaker 17 (41:48):
Yeah, man, that's all I got. I try to keep
it light whenever I call in.

Speaker 4 (41:52):
I knew it too.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
When you called, I had this feeling it was going
to be something kind of sarcastic and fun, a little snarky.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
Love it. Yeah, that's how.

Speaker 17 (42:03):
Yeah, that's what you gotta do.

Speaker 14 (42:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (42:07):
I mean, hey, we're finding the run game fourteen games
too late. That's fun, isn't it. Shout out to Rico.
He's doing his thing. I think we should pair. I
heard this somewhere else, but it makes sense. He has
like a Diet Marrion Barber feel. Maybe this was on
the show or somewhere else, but he just Yeah, he's

(42:29):
got a fun play about him, and I think he's
coming into his own the more opportunities he gets, so yeah,
pair another running back with him in the draft, and
you know, we'll have fun next year with a running
game if we actually commit to running the ball. Whoever
is at the helm calling those plays, please run the ball.

Speaker 11 (42:47):
It works.

Speaker 17 (42:49):
But yeah, looking ahead to the Buccaneers. This guy played
for both teams. He's kind of in the public spotlight,
so I feel like we know his personality ish but
Keish s Johnson he uh, you know you covered him
in his time here. Also thinking about Martine Grammatica, mm hmmm.
Uh so he was a little spitfire man. I liked

(43:10):
watching him. Yeah, obviously he you know, he's in a
highlight that most of us would like to forget with
the Seattle game. Oh you know, he didn't have anything
to do with that, but uh.

Speaker 4 (43:21):
Welleah, he was. He was looking for a moment, he
kind of did, you know.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Yeah, but I'll tell you this, and I've learned the
hard way, don't say anything to him about it. I didn't,
I didn't learn, but I Yeah, somebody asked me about
Josh Ellis the other day and it's kind of weird,
and so yeah, Josh Ellis and and Josh Ellis did
make a comment to to Martine Grammatica about throwing a
block or not throwing one, and uh, I didn't. I

(43:47):
didn't turn out well at training camp. That was kind
of a that was a tense moment. But yeah, this
one of the uh Cowboys Bucks players. Don't forget Alvin
Harper played a.

Speaker 17 (43:59):
Little bit and Alvin Harper, Yeah that's your guy.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
Joey Galloway, you know Joey Joey Gallo, Dalway and Keisha
traded for each other. So yeah, all right, all right man,
thanks Zach for the Yeah, I think appreciate it. Let's
go to Robbie and Coco beats. Robbie, what's up hey, Nick?

Speaker 15 (44:17):
Well that that was a lot of lag there for
a second. Yeah, how are you today, Buddy? Good good,
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Holidays, Mery Christmas to a
jazz and beamer even though he's probably not there, but.

Speaker 4 (44:29):
Good market ken, go ahead, Robbie.

Speaker 10 (44:34):
All right.

Speaker 15 (44:35):
First, I want to give a shout out to Israel mcconmwell.

Speaker 4 (44:37):
I think I said his name right.

Speaker 15 (44:39):
Yeah, that guy has been like Byron Jones was we
were talking about him earlier. Safety cornerback, safety cornerback, Nicol
I think you could see his uh, his understanding of
the defense finally coming together this year, and I'd like
to see it. And maybe he just needed a couple
of years because he came from a smaller school.

Speaker 14 (45:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 15 (45:01):
I'm really impressed with him, and he deserves his flowers. Demasi.
You know what I'm gonna say. Last year was kind
of a wash for him. Love dan Quinn loved everything
he did on defense, but it was kind of well
known that he wanted faster defensive tackles, smaller, faster yep.

(45:21):
And having Mazie in there now, finally getting under Zim's coaching,
maybe I see good things from next year. Put on
another five or eight pounds and maybe we'll seek at
him up there. And ta Rico. Man, he has really
turned it on this year, and I thought he would
have been a I think I think you and I

(45:42):
talked about it before, he'd be a solid number two back.
But I think he's really taking a step man. I'm
really impressed. Other than that, I'll let you talk about
any of those things you want to.

Speaker 14 (45:51):
And Mary Christmas, thank you.

Speaker 4 (45:55):
Again.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
You know, when when you're talking about players, players weight,
what their role is going to be in certain schemes.
You know that that does come down to what the
staff looks like and what they're asking for certain players.
You know, Mazzie's weight's kind of gone up and down,
and you know, not always in a good way. So

(46:18):
you know, it's been a little bit of a of
a storyline h there. So I think he's playing at
a at a at a good weight right now. He's
still strong enough, you know. You see, I thought he
had a really big play in the game the other
day on second down because and now they're running back

(46:39):
escapes me Hubbard. He looked like he was going for
a first down. He had a lot of momentum hitting
that line, and all of a sudden, he just hits
a wall called Mazzi, who throws him around. Uh down
immediately Now it's third down, third and three, third and
four looked like it was going to be a first down,
but he made this stop and then on third down
they had to throw it. That was the tip interception

(47:01):
up in the air. So really good play by Mazzy.
It made one of my uh don't forget these five
plays because it was one that easily forgotten. But but
it set up a third and third down situation and
the Cowboys ended up getting a turnover. So I thought
that was a really big play there. And as for Rico,
looking back here, I think Rico is gonna if he
if he can get there, I think he's gonna be

(47:21):
the first player in Cowboys history, first undrafted player four
thousand yard rushing season. I'm looking through the stats. I
don't I don't see that another another one doing that,
So that that's impressive. If he can get there, he
needs one hundred and twenty yards in the next three games.
He should be able to the you know, based off
of what we've seen. I mean, that's he should. He
should probably get eleven hundred at this rate. All right,

(47:44):
let's go to a last caller. We aready to get
one more in Jeremy from d C. Jeremy, what's up?

Speaker 4 (47:51):
Good? How are you?

Speaker 1 (47:52):
I'm doing all right?

Speaker 6 (47:53):
Man?

Speaker 1 (47:53):
You didn't hurt nobody today?

Speaker 4 (47:54):
Eight No, No, day isn't over yet. But yeah, no,
I haven't.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
And I appreciate that I probably hurt the people's feelings
because yeah, I might have done that hurts the people's
feelings because I, I, you know, basically missed a meeting.

Speaker 1 (48:07):
Hey, it comes with the job.

Speaker 4 (48:09):
Yeah, it happens. What's up man?

Speaker 14 (48:11):
All right?

Speaker 9 (48:12):
So quick question is.

Speaker 1 (48:15):
That if we can't resigned Chauncey Ghosten, that you think
we should go after call Lawson because he's been showing
up right seriously these last couple of weeks. And then
I wanted to throw and I wanted to throw two
numbers that you since I missed last time. My first
number is Emm Smith twenty two.

Speaker 9 (48:32):
Okay, you know who that is?

Speaker 4 (48:33):
Yeah, Victor.

Speaker 1 (48:35):
I believe that win number was fifty nine, correct, yep,
and number fifty nine. Then I'm gonna leave you with that,
Nick and.

Speaker 4 (48:43):
Not something you to my buddy, all right, have a
good one twenty two.

Speaker 2 (48:48):
If it's not Bob Hayes' not Emmitt Smith, I mean
there's not There's not a lot there.

Speaker 6 (48:52):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
There was a defensive back named Victor Scott that I remember.
He had a interception for a touchdown in the game
against Washington. They had five interceptions I believe on Joe
Thaisman and it was his birthday. They sang a happy birthday.
Victor Scott had a pick six in there, and he
wore twenty two and then fifty nine. I don't know

(49:14):
why Derek Brownlow is the first name that just popped
up for me. He was Derek Brownlow fifty nine. He
didn't even wear yeah he did, he wore that number.
But Anthony Hitchins would be another one there, really good,
good player.

Speaker 14 (49:29):
You know.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
Anthony Hitchins reminds me of sort of what we were
talking about before about let's see who the coaching staff is,
because Anthony Agens is one of my favorite examples of
I remember a lot of people complaining they could have
got him in the sixth round, seventh round, why they
jumped and got him in the fourth round. Well, you know,
Rod Marinelli had a vision for that type of player
that he wanted in his in his defense, and he

(49:51):
had a vision that he could come in and play
right away.

Speaker 4 (49:53):
Well he did.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
He had I think he had one hundred tackles as
a rookie. So sometimes you really do have to rely
on the coaches. And that's that's a situation that I think,
you know, let's see what happens with coaches and scouts.
Let's see that that that type of players that they'll
be looking to get. So all right, guys, it was
it was fun. A lot of good calls today. Appreciate

(50:15):
you guys adapting to the change. The time change will
be back to a regular time tomorrow ten am Central
Time for storyline for both Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (50:26):
And Thursday for the rest of the week.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
All right, So for Chris Beams, still working, not here,
but still working and doing a great job for Jazz
in the Back. I'm nick even to see tomorrow on
Cowboy Storyline.

Speaker 14 (50:36):
