Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
This He's Cowboys storyline with Nick Eatman.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
What is up? Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. Merry Christmas Eve, everyone.
I didn't say Merry Christmas Adam yesterday, as my man
Michael from Bolden Green pointed out, But it's Christmas Eve
and we're here with you. Look beautiful music. Thank you
Chris for throwing that out there. We can have this
(00:44):
on the entire show if you want to, and I'll
just talk like this the entire time. Uh, just kidding,
but yeah, we're gonna do this for next forty five minutes.
We'll see who's committed to the Cowboys storyline and who's
got stuff to say here as we get ready for Christmas.
Obviously there will not be a show tomorrow. That's our
(01:05):
only day of the week that we will not have shows.
We'll pick it back up Thursday and Friday. And that
that makes me think that of all the days Christmas
can be on Wednesday, I'm finding out Wednesdays seems like
the worst because I mean, usually any other day you
can kind of piggyback it with you have this day
off and then this day, but you put it right
(01:26):
on a Wednesday. It's just like, all right, you get
Wednesday off. Everybody else, you know, get back to work.
But it's okay though, that's all right, and we'll be
back on Thursday for sure. But we're here today. Let's
get this thing going. Eight eight A A five five
to two nine seven is the number to call. We
got Gary in New Mexico. He's been holding He starts
us off.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Gary, what's up, man, Hey, Merry Christmas?
Speaker 6 (01:48):
Nick?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
You too? You too? How you doing?
Speaker 5 (01:50):
You're right, good man? Those midweek holidays kind of throw
everything off, don't they.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yeah? Yeah, and then of course next week, same thing.
Speaker 7 (01:58):
Yeah, that's true, that's true.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
But hey, good for y'all for being there, grinding it out,
for showing up on Christmas Eve and take all of
our calls.
Speaker 8 (02:05):
Man.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
We appreciate all y'all do for us fans. Thanks so
that we have a voice, because my wife could not
care less about this stuff. So we got Philadelphia coming up.
So I was trying to find a good trivia question
for you. Kind of ties into the Eagle game, So
I think I've got one. So it's next that we're
in the next to last game of the season playing
the Eagles. So in nineteen eighty one, the Cowboys and
(02:29):
the Eagles played in the next to last game of
the season for the NFC Eastern Division title. It was
in that game that Tony dor said became the Cowboys
all time leading rusher. Who did he surpass to get
that title?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Oh? Man, I would think because he's in the Ring
of Honor, I would think it'd be Don Perkins.
Speaker 7 (02:51):
But you got it right, got it?
Speaker 9 (02:55):
Giving you?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Yeah, go ahead?
Speaker 5 (02:57):
I was given you too many easy questions with these
nineteen eighties games that you could just remember. So I
had to go back in time to before when I
was born, you know, back then in my dad's era,
in Don Perkinson. Yeah, you pulled it up, man? Did
good jump?
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Was that at home game? The Cowboys home game?
Speaker 10 (03:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (03:15):
It was a home game week fifteen eighty one.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
What I thought you were gonna throw out there was
do you know what happened in that game? Do you
know what record was broken in that game?
Speaker 11 (03:25):
In that nineteen game one eighty one.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Home game, Everson Walls broke mel Renfro's record for interceptions
in a season with eleven. It was a deep rocket
off and you know, we did that documentary. It was
one of my favorite documentary that we've done on thirty
on the Deep Blue is that is the twenty four
to seven coverage with Walls and Trayvon Diggs and when
(03:50):
Trayvon Diggs broke or tied Walls's record, Walls was also
there in the stadium, just like mel renfro was the
day that that that Walls picked it off, that pass
picked off Ron Jaworski there down the sideline. So it's
kind of.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
I was the four fourth grade in nineteen eighty one,
so that's you know, I'm getting into being emotionally invested
into that stuff by that time. And I just I
love that eighty one team with Michael Downs and Everson
Walls and those free agency came in. That was that
was a good time. Tray Von Diggs man is a
is a is kind of a heartbreaking story. I'm starting
to kind of think he may be done for us,
(04:27):
but I don't know. But I've got a question for
you about the wide receiver room and then then I'll
hang up and listen. But but real quickly, just let
me continue to praise Cee Dee Lamb. Like I did
last week. You know, we talk about his tough that is,
if you've never had a shoulder injury, that's a painful
injury that he's dealing with. And every time, you know,
kind of similar to what emmittt had, you know back
(04:48):
in the day, every time you get hit, it drives
it into becauseious, excruciating paint. But the fact that number one,
that he's playing through it, Number two that he's putting
up the numbers that he's putting up while playing through it,
and number three, and this is what's overlooked. He's doing
that without a very good supporting cast. He's doing all
of this injured, with a backup quarterback and hardly no
(05:10):
running game. And it's just I just have so much
respect for him as a player now watching what he's
done this year, I think he may be one of
the guys where that big contract was worth it. He's
earning every bit of it.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Serious.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
But what I want to ask you, and I'll hang
up and listen outside of C D. Lamb, how do
you grade this wide receiver room? Because I kind of
look at it as disappointing. I expected a lot more
from Jalen Tolbert, And I don't know how much of
that has to do with the players underachieving and how
much of it has to do with just the offensive
(05:41):
line being influx in the backup quarterback. Just what are
your thoughts on the wide receiver room outside of C. D. Lamb?
Speaker 4 (05:47):
All right, thanks Gary, Merry Christmas to you, Thank you
for the call. I'm going to say Merry Christmas to
everybody every time, every time that I say thanks for
the call. Today, I'm just going to say, it's a
Merry Christmas. It's a blanket coverage forever one there, let's
give it, let's keep it rolling. That's a tough one.
Jalen Tolbert. As soon as you start thinking, well, you know,
he's he hasn't had that grade of a season, then
(06:09):
he'll make a couple of plays here and there. And
I don't know if that's what a number two receiver
is supposed to do. It seems like you're supposed to
do have a little bit more production, consistent production. He's
had moments. I mean, he's tied for the touchdown lead
with six with CD, so he's he's scored touchdowns to
scored the other night had a nice play the other
(06:30):
night to get a first down when they look like,
you know, they were going to have to punt, and
they actually went and scored a touchdown on that drive.
So he's had some moments here and there, not as
much as you would think. He's second in yards on
the team and third and catches behind Ferguson, who's been
out some too. I think you know you expected more
(06:52):
from him. Brandon Cooks has been out, so it's it
just there. They're just it had It's been okay, it's
been okay receiver, but obviously you know you'd like something
more there for that. You're number two guy. All right,
let's go to Irene in Falls Church, Virginia.
Speaker 12 (07:09):
Good morning. Okay, I'm going to be a little playful today,
so this will see odd because if you have a
favorite movie, you shouldn't have forgotten it. But since you
have an official poll, I have to change my answer
to A Christmas Carol and the original version, although like
the Diehard debate, could you say that A Christmas Carol
is a Halloween movie with.
Speaker 9 (07:28):
All the ghosts?
Speaker 4 (07:28):
I don't know anyway, I saw I saw Diehard last
night again. It were like the first first ten to
fifteen minutes of it, and I'm on the fence of like,
this isn't a Christmas movie, but because Bruce Willis said so, right,
But he does have a line that he asks his driver,
do you have any Christmas music? I mean, he asked
him that. So I was like, man, like, I don't know,
(07:52):
I don't I don't care. If it's a good movie,
doesn't matter. Okay, go ahead, there you go.
Speaker 13 (07:56):
All right.
Speaker 12 (07:56):
Well, since it's almost Christmas, I was looking at past
Christmas Cowboys games. I did notice that all of them
have been lost since you started covering the team.
Speaker 9 (08:08):
So that's a little sass.
Speaker 12 (08:09):
But anyway, outside of the sadness of those results, do
you have any special Christmas game memories?
Speaker 5 (08:15):
Atlanta?
Speaker 12 (08:16):
You have Thanksgiving ones? So maybe you have some press
box I don't know, maybe Neil's difts just moments and
that's it. Christmas, Chris jout gosh, all the storyliners, thank you.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
So much, you know. So I'm trying to think all
the ones. Yep. I thought there was three that I
could think of, and those are the three that are there.
Waking up on Christmas morning in two thousand, in Nashville, Tennessee.
You know, it's it's it's one thing when it's a
(08:47):
Christmas game, but when it's Christmas on the road at night,
like you're you're just you know, you're there the night
before it's Christmas Eve, you go to bed and you're
you know, I'm in Nashville. I'm young. I'm twenty four
years old, So you know, that was just kind of
weird because I was still, you know, kind of removed
from home and just like, wow, this is but it
(09:07):
was like the greatest hotel I've ever stayed at in Nashville,
and so I guess it was like the opry Lamb.
So that was like a city in itself. That was
kind of cool to be there for that, and uh
and I do remember uh. And then there was some
there were some funny things that happened in that game.
On the sideline before the game, Chris and I had
some fun with it. We played a joke on our
(09:28):
on our colleague there in a pregame show. We didn't.
She didn't. She thought we were started and we didn't.
And it's kind of a funny story, but not really
one for on air. And then the Arizona game in
twenty ten. I mean that was just like it was
like this season, like this where it was like, Okay,
well you're not gonna win, but you know you're not
(09:48):
going to go to the playoffs. But Steven McGee, you know,
I thought it was going to lead him to a victory.
And then I think David Beeler missed an extra point
and ended up losing the game. Uh. Tough, tough loss there.
But it was one of the where it's just it
was a night game. But but you know, you just
want to you're playing for pride at that point. But yeah,
I mean we haven't had too many Christmas Day games.
(10:10):
That's that's what you look for now. And you have
a family, You're like, all right, Christmas, are you at
home at least? And if so, if not, then you know,
hopefully it's not too bad. And that's the one thing
about a Wednesday, though, you know, I will say that
you know there's at least you're you know, you're here
for for it could be worse. It could be worse
so because you could have a Saturday, Christmas or Sunday
and that's really bad there. So all right, let's go
(10:31):
to Sebastian and Savannah Georgia.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Good morning, Good morning, and happy holidays everyone. How are
you doing, mister Emons?
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Yeah, man, how are you?
Speaker 1 (10:39):
I think I'm doing just fine, just fine. And I
absolutely enjoyed that game. That was a lot of fun.
And for a lot of people who are sitting here
and they wanted the boys to tank and stuff like that,
you played for the love of the game and for
the enjoyment and for your fans. So if I was
going to a game, I wouldn't want my team trying
to tank. I want you to try to take it
from the Buccaneers. Now, you put the Buccaneers in a
(11:00):
bad situation where like Atlanta's right behind them and can
pass them. That's who you're supposed to be. If you're
not going to make it, try to spoil it for
somebody else. And I love how the guy has played
on this past Sunday, But I want to take it
away from football for just a second because there's something
that I never did when I caught in. My favorite
Christmas movie is How the Grin Still Christmas with Jim Carrey,
because it's absolutely hilarious and my favorite wrestlers. I was
(11:23):
actually a bigger fan of Macho Man Randy Savage than
Hawk Hogan. But my absolute favorite wrestler is Sting And
my second favorite wrestler is a guy who's lesser known
named Scott Levi aka the Raven. He had a cool quote.
He'd be like, what about me?
Speaker 6 (11:37):
What about Raven?
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Quote?
Speaker 1 (11:39):
The Raven nevermore? I used to love that guy, right,
but that's it, man. You guys have a great day,
enjoyed it. Happy New Years if I can't call you
before then, And to Cowboys Nation like heck Ma Harrison says,
I hope your team wins.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
I got an autograph one time from a coach. It
was an old basketball coach at Texas A and m
he was was Shelby Metcalf and he signed my my
program at a basketball game and he said happy scoreboards,
which you know, it doesn't matter who you are, you
know who you're for, just you know, good luck to
you on that. So I always remember that Sting and
(12:14):
and Macho Man those those yeah, I mean, that's right
there in my wheelhouse. My My favorite story is when
Sting showed up with us uh to do. He did
some videos with us. He's he's like watching tape with
Brian brought us there and all make up and a
bat and everything. Just watching tape with that was pretty funny.
(12:35):
And then also, you know, and he called and he
he called Shannon Gross. I mean we were sharing an
office and he had he'sad listening to this voicemail. He's like, hey, Shanon,
Steve Borden Sting just calling you back or whatever. So
I was like, save that message forever. It's awesome. He's
a really cool guy. All right, Well, I got my
(12:55):
little poll here on the Christmas movies. It's a wonderful life.
It's got the lead right now. But Grinch is coming
in strong there with Darren Woodson, remember he said that
as well. All right, let's go to Robbie Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Speaker 7 (13:08):
Hey, Nick, my son would like to say something to you,
if that's all right, sure, what's up man?
Speaker 6 (13:13):
Merry Christmas, mister min and Merry Christmas, your son, Jake
the Snake and all your family.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Thank you so much. Hey, what's your name?
Speaker 10 (13:24):
R J R J?
Speaker 7 (13:26):
What is?
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Of course?
Speaker 4 (13:29):
I have no choice, buddy, you have no choice. Thank you.
Merry Christmas to you. Hope you get everything you want
for Christmas. That's awesome, all right?
Speaker 7 (13:41):
Well, ay, man, God, I watched that. We watched that
Bucks game. We whooped them, man, I mean that score
was not as close as it was.
Speaker 13 (13:51):
In the background.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 7 (13:55):
I really, really, again really was impressed with Mick Vigel
and the whole defense and all those guys in the
second there, and Ryan Backers that aren't playing a whole lot.
Jimon Scarf looking all right, everybody looking good. Yeah. My
favorite Christmas movie is the Muppets Christmas Carol. Okay, showing
off my aid because you remember that when you were
(14:15):
a kid.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
I'm sure too, think so, Yeah, yeah, I think so.
Speaker 14 (14:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (14:19):
Any of the Christmas Carols I like them for some reason.
But R Jay's is the Grinch. Hey, Merry Christmas? Do
you Merry Christmas? All the storyliners out there, I could
name them all, but I'll just say, mery Christmas. God
bless you all, and and we'll talk to you in
a couple of days. Man, I'll be enjoyed Christmas.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
Thank you so much. Appreciate that Robbie and his son
R Jay calling in. That's pretty awesome. I hope he
has everything that he wants for Christmas. All right, Let's
keep this thing going Brian in Kansas City's next. Brian.
What's up, Bud, Good.
Speaker 11 (14:49):
Morning, mister Eatman.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Brian.
Speaker 11 (14:52):
I'm doing good man, I'm doing good well. I had
the I heard. I think it was Irene that asked about,
you know, favorite Christmas memories, and mine, I think is
ninety five. I was at my grandparents' house. And you
know that's a long time ago there, long since past now,
(15:13):
but watching them break the record, Oh.
Speaker 15 (15:17):
Yeah, yep, at Arizona ninety five, you're right, yeah, Christmas
Day ninety five, he breaks the he breaks the touchdown
record against Arizona, and that was you know, I was there,
My whole family was there, and you know.
Speaker 11 (15:30):
Probably the happiest memory of Cowboys related memory that I
could think of.
Speaker 9 (15:35):
Man.
Speaker 11 (15:36):
And uh, well, you know, for playing against Philly, I've
got some hope, I think in this game, because you know,
I don't know if Herts is going to play. You know,
it's always a toss up with that with the concussion protocol.
But I'll tell you what, without him, they looked completely beatable.
(15:57):
You know, Sae Kwon Bartley. Barkley had a hundred whatever
it was a little over one hundred yards in the
first quarter and when teams were able to play them differently,
it was a totally different game. And they called their
game differently because they didn't have the push push I
automatically get the one yard no matter what on fourth
(16:19):
and one. Yeah, So you know, just anything anything you
have on that, Ellen, and I'll go with I'm going
with the Grench on my my Christmas movie, man, and
anything you got gone on the game coming up this week.
And you know, always always beat the Eagles. I don't
care about draft picks.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Nice, all right, I have a good one, man, all right,
you too, Thank you for calling in, Brian. You know,
I'll say this about about backup quarterbacks and and you
know when they when they come into the game, it's
not always it's not always perfect for them, you know,
because you got to remember from a practice standpoint that
just don't get the reps. It. And I don't know
(17:01):
who's playing this week. I really don't don't know that.
And I don't know if they're gonna let the Cowboys know, uh,
it'll it'll come out, of course. But if if he
is out, I mean I would imagine that Kenny Pickett's
going to get a lot of reps this week, and
so you know, it might look different for the game
plan and things like that with with you know, them
(17:22):
knowing all week long who's going to play and if not,
But you know, and he started games and he's capable
of winning, and and they'll they'll they'll figure it out,
just like the Cowboys have kind of figured it out
and took a little bit with Cooper Rush, and you know,
and you know, he's what I saw the statue, he's
nine and four as a starter. But but oh and
two against the Eagles, so he's not he's not defeated Philadelphia.
(17:45):
And of course with the first lost the he started
this year, first game he started, they lost to Philly.
So we'll see if he can turn that around. But yeah,
it'll be interesting to see. I don't I don't know
just yet what what's what's happening there? Uh, unless they
just come out and say he's ruled out. But I
know for the Cowboys, it feels like that concussions are
(18:08):
going two weeks now. It used to just be, you know,
in one game if it was a short week, but
but the two times it's happened I said this yesterday,
it's been on a Monday night game, short week, so
then I'm not you know, then obviously you're around or
or one way or another was a short week and
then so you knew that they weren't going to come
back and play. But I don't know, don't know if
(18:29):
HER's is going to play, obviously that changes things for them.
All right, let's go to Rick in Webster, Massachusetts.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Hey do you too?
Speaker 7 (18:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (18:44):
I just said that something go down my throat, but
leud say it was. My favorite Christmas movie is probably
Home Alone, Christmas Vacation and Die Hard.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Okay, but.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
My memories are just going to my aunt Townsend Christmas.
Every year. We just have a food room. You just
go walk in, Hey, how you doing. Okay, the food's
in the food room, okay, and you go grab your
dish and go sit down.
Speaker 14 (19:15):
Much TV nice.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Yeah that's the way it's supposed to be. I mean,
I'm here, I'm here for the food, right, So yeah,
well that's cool. What do you What do you think
about this week's game?
Speaker 6 (19:28):
Wellpo game. I loved it. It was just like smash
Mount football.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
They came out and just took it to Tampa Bay said, okay,
you want to win, come.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Get us that's what it was. I'm watching some of
the highlights now and it's just it was, you know,
they just took it from him. I mean they literally
just took the ball away, took the game away. That's
that's what you kind of want. I've been waiting on
drawing planing to make a play. He made a big one.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
Yeah, you know, Jordan Lewis with the great game in
that interception and CD lamp perserving through so sept in
the fourth quarter where you know, I just understand he's hurt.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
So yeah, for sure, but all in all good, all right,
all right, Merry Christmas? Do you all right? Let's let's
go to Ronnie in New Jersey. Ronnie, what's up man?
Speaker 6 (20:28):
Nick?
Speaker 14 (20:29):
Merry Christmas?
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Nick you how are you.
Speaker 14 (20:31):
Not too bad? And that's too bad? It's pretty pretty
good after that that that that that game, Chris, I mean, Nick,
I was gonna say something about, uh, these last couple
of games that that we've had, I've seen a little
bit of a difference and the way that they've been
(20:52):
calling the plays. We've been more a little bit of
a running team, and we wanted that all year, right, so,
so thanks to the offensive line clicking a little bit more,
a little bit better. You've been better at that, but
with the wings that we had and not just sounds
too much like The Grinch. Oh, by the way, a
(21:13):
Christmas Story. I can't believe not so many people have
been mentioning a Christmas Story because I've got to be
one of the best movies out there.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Christmas Story, Yeah, I know, every day, I mean every
year it's going to be on. I mean that one
for sure, you know, is always on.
Speaker 14 (21:29):
That is such a fun movie. So that sounds too
much like The Grinch. But this coaching staff, the offense,
the way they've been calling the plays, it seems like
to be an improvement. But like we spoke about last week,
there wasn't much there before, and the way they called
(21:51):
the plays and the way they there was like no brendom.
There was like you know, how they set up.
Speaker 11 (21:56):
A play to.
Speaker 14 (21:58):
Get another play after that. Well I saw that this week,
which I was like so annoyed and happy to see
at the same time, because that uh number nine Terpin,
that surfing play where he ran and he got like
ten yards and then right I think it was right
after that they did a little play action and and
(22:20):
finally through the through the ball deep. It was like, wow,
like they they they're you know with the times, you know,
so at times it seems like we're there. So I'm
kind of conflicted with the way they've called the place. Yeah,
we played some bad teams, but they played better. Uh,
with how this might be with the coaching staff, what
(22:44):
you know, what are they going to do? Because I like,
I like, I don't know about you. I like our
head coach McCarthy. I just like if the offense, if
they had some type of better rhythm, better play calling,
you know, maybe a different offensive coordinator, that might help.
Speaker 7 (23:01):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (23:01):
But with that lest I hope we beat the Eagles
because that's my number one hate the team now, whether
they're good, they could be good, they could suck. I
really don't care. I hate them the most. So let's
be the Eagles and Merry Christmas and happy Holidays. Chris,
I mean Chris.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
All right, that's fine, that's fine. I've been called worse
now I'm kidding. All right, Well, Ronnie, I appreciate that,
thanks for the for the call, and I agree with
with just about all that play calling wise. You know,
it's there's been there's been some questionable moments, and that's
what we do. I mean, everybody, you know, everybody questions
the plays that don't work, you know, so that that
(23:42):
happens a lot. Sometimes you question the plays that do work,
you know. But but you know, for the most part,
I mean that's that's kind of what what this is.
And then there's been some times where it hasn't worked.
I will say, you know, you have to factor in
of just the different play that they're having to deal
with and the injuries, and you know, it's it's been
(24:05):
in and out of the lineup is you know, all
these receivers and you know some of the backs were
changing earlier in the year, and the offensive line keeps
keeps rotating, so you know, you kind of have to
play the cards that have been dealt and and that's
that's one thing. So I think you have to remember
you have to factor that in when you're evaluating McCarthy
and the play calling. But I mean, we've seen some
(24:28):
some head scratching moments this year, but I think for
the most part, you know, it's been it's been okay.
You know, he's I think I think I I factor
that in a lot of what we've seen and the
players he's had to play with, and all the changes
he's had to make. All right, let's go to break
here on Cowboys, strow around, and be right back here after.

To Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
This segment is presented by YETI officially licensed Yettie Cowboys Gears,
now available at Stadium pro Shops, concession and on yeti
dot Com. All right, let's back here on Cowboys storyline.
Let's get rolling to first time caller. We got Josh
and Corpus Christi Texas. Josh, what is up? Man?
Speaker 9 (26:56):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (26:57):
How you doing?
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Sir?
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Happy holidays?
Speaker 2 (26:59):
You too, pot call are a long time listener. Here
we go I travel about sixty to seven thousand miles
a year, so I'm always listening to the podcast.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Wow, yeah, how are we traveling? We were driving? We
flying both?
Speaker 12 (27:14):
Oh, we're always driving.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
I'm driving, all right, man, I.
Speaker 11 (27:18):
Travel a lot for work, So put listen to the podcast.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
All right, you got the miles on those cars on
the cars vehicles?
Speaker 9 (27:25):
All right?
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Oh yeah, Well what are you thinking? Man?
Speaker 2 (27:29):
So I had a question for you, well, a couple
of questions. Who do you think what position of need
and free agencies should we do this off season? And
what's your position they think you think they're going to
take in the draft this off season? Okay, and I'll
hang up and listen.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
All right, cool, all right, Josh, appreciate it, you know,
I you know, I always say, well, there's other dominoes
that have to fall first, and some of it is
is their own free agents. You know, they got like
twenty five of these guys. So let's just say OSA
for if they don't resign OSA, then I think defensive
(28:10):
tackle is a really big, you know, need for you
because it's not it's not great right now, and you've
you've got to you've got to upgrade there. So one
way or another. You've got to get defensive tackle or
two or three or whatever. So that's why I say that,
you know, if if he doesn't come back, I think though,
(28:33):
I still think this team needs some some help at
running back and and I and they have to resign
Rico Daddle if they want to, if they want to
resign him, but they don't have a running back under
under contract for next year. One that's one that's played.
So I think I think that that's a big need
is running back. And and yes, fix the offensive line.
(28:54):
That helps, But I still think even if Rico were
to come back, I'm I need a Tony Pollard type guy.
I need that type of you know, quick running back,
home run hitter because he could pair up with with
you know, with another back. So that's that running back
what I think it needs to be addressed for sure.
(29:17):
Now I don't know if that's a first round pick.
Probably isn't, but you know maybe, I mean, if if
you're depends on where you're where, you're picking there, and
you're probably going to be and looks like teens to
late teens, these last two games will will affect that them,
of course, but you know, I just think you have
so many needs that I I always look for value
(29:38):
and and in the first round, and I know Jerry
does too. That's why the second round pick, he's always
taking some guy that's you know, got some kind of concerns,
whether it be injury, character, both, whatever. But in the
first round, you know, if if you take a guard,
if you take a running back, if you take a
tight end. I don't think they'll do that, but I'm
(29:59):
just saying, those are some of the positions that you
can get some value in, uh that they typically don't draft.
That high defensive tackle, you could could throw that in
there as well. So all right, good stuff. Let's go
to Randy in California's next Randy Mary Christmas.
Speaker 8 (30:13):
How are you, Nick?
Speaker 4 (30:14):
I'm good man.
Speaker 10 (30:16):
Oh, I feeling better. That was an amazing game. I
love the physicality that the defense showed. And I just
want to stay here and say that I think Mike
Zimmer pretty much saved McCarthy's job for this year. I mean,
the way the defense is playing and keeping them in
games even when the offense is struggling at times. Uh,
it's outstanding.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Saved his then.
Speaker 10 (30:36):
I mean, yeah, Mike, yeah, yeah, Mike versa so yeah,
it's a mic effect. So I was gonna say, you know,
with a couple of I'm not going to get the
salary cap stuff. It's all. It's a lot of stuff.
But I was just in here safe. I would really
like Jordan Lewis back. I think Jordan Lewis Is is
probably one of the most important guys that have back
out of that defense I would take.
Speaker 11 (30:56):
I will probably have.
Speaker 10 (30:57):
Him over Osa, uh, just because, like I mean, I've
looked like nineteen the defensive tackles in this draft, and
there's there's some quality guys there and like almost you know,
in the first like four rounds, you can get someone
that can probably be similar to the same production. So
to me, Jordan Lewis is I seem I think he's
like probably like the leader of that secondary, which I
would really like to have him back.
Speaker 11 (31:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (31:17):
Other than that, Uh, you guys have a good Christmas
and a good New Year. If I'll talk to you
and uh stay lest all right.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
Thank you, Merry Christmas Eve, Randy. Yeah, Jordan Lewis is
probably number one on the list. I've heard that a
few times. I don't disagree. Number one on the list
of guys to to to re sign just because.
Speaker 10 (31:39):
You can.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Probably it'll it would be affordable. But but he brings
more to the table. And and I bet he gets
that too. I mean, like, yeah, he could go and
sign with someone else and sign with Seattle. And is
he going to be viewed the same? Is he going
to have the same type of impact that he does.
(32:01):
It's hard to say. But he's a leader of this team,
uh or one of the leaders. He is a leader.
He's not afraid to to say, you know what what
he thinks. I'm pretty sure if it hasn't happened already,
the the well, I'll won't give that away. The media
gives out awards for for you know, the their their
(32:24):
guys that they cover. Good Guy Award and I think
his name was on the list of it. I'm not
sure if that they've announced that yet or he maybe
they made a change. But he's just a guy that
stands up in the locker room and he's not afraid
to say good days and bad days, say say what
he thinks. And you know, I remember his his message
after one of the losses. It might have been this
might have been the Baltimore loss or the or the
(32:48):
the New Orleans one. Just about the details and details.
He kept saying details, details, Just how you know that
this team, uh needs to focus and and and practice better.
And so you know, Jordan Lewis is just it's been
a great player, great leader. But that interception is one
of the one of the best interceptions I've seen in
a long long time. It's not forget he's getting hit
(33:08):
in the face, going running down the field, strive for stride,
gets hit in the face, then goes and looks for
the ball and then takes it away. Pretty awesome play.
All right, it's good Josh in Chicago.
Speaker 9 (33:17):
Hey, Nick, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to you.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
What's up man?
Speaker 9 (33:21):
Uh?
Speaker 18 (33:21):
Just Jordan Lewis Man, he looked like Udini out there.
Speaker 9 (33:23):
Yeah, it was in saying.
Speaker 18 (33:24):
I mean, I thought for sure there was a touchdown,
and then all of a sudden he's got the ball.
Just too Deani out there.
Speaker 10 (33:31):
Yep.
Speaker 18 (33:32):
So I was born in nineteen ninety. I got to
say Home Alone, that's the best Christmas movie. Okay, but
I got to argue Chris's point here, Diehard is a
Christmas movie. Why, I'll give you three main points.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Okay.
Speaker 18 (33:45):
He goes to an office Christmas party. That's the whole
reason he's there. His wife and his name is Solly,
clearly a reference to Christmas. And they have Christmas songs
on the soundtrack on.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
The soundtrack of Diehard.
Speaker 18 (33:58):
There's three Christmas songs on the soundtrack die Hard.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
All Right, I mean, I mean, you got me, all right,
I mean you thank you? Just there we go, there
we go.
Speaker 18 (34:08):
I've been trying to go calling for the past week
to say that.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
So all right, I mean I was on the fence here.
I mean, I mean, I I mean, Bruce Is the
one said it, you know, I mean, I mean, he's
the main actor of the whole movie.
Speaker 18 (34:20):
So I was like, all right, but you know, that's
a fair point. He said it's a Bruce Willis movie,
which I guess is also true.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
All right, well, that's yeah, he's got a different agenda
bus saying that. I guess, uh, that true. That's fair.
But when I heard that last night, him saying you
got any Christmas songs? I was like, all right, well,
you know, it's not helping my point here, but I
like those. I like those. Holly that m might be
a stretch, but the other two I'm going for it.
Speaker 9 (34:45):
Like it.
Speaker 18 (34:46):
Hey, and I just you know, I hope we beat
the Eagles this week. Play some spoiler play grinch. I
love it so Otherwise, Merry Christmas, you guys, thanks for
being here today, Thanks for doing this. I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
Have a great Christmas.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
All right, you too, Thank you so much. Josh and
I go, all right, let's go to break here one
more time on Cowboys storyline, and we will be right

nine seven. We got a few more minutes, maybe about
fifteen or so. I think we have one more caller
just called in. But all right, Chris, we're ready for them.
Speaker 11 (36:42):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
Alan Merkle, Texas.
Speaker 9 (36:44):
Hey, what's going on? Nick?
Speaker 4 (36:46):
How are you doing?
Speaker 9 (36:48):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 8 (36:49):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 9 (36:50):
I think the Cowboys season is going up and down,
but I see the good in it. I think that's
all we can do at this point. Yeah, I don't
think there's any ganger of you know, being in the
super Bowl meantime seeing I hope I'm wrong, I really do.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Well, Yeah, I mean I don't I don't know if
it's if you in the NFL. I don't know if
you have to be close. I mean, it seems like
the way it's designed, everybody's close. You know, you kind
of just get on a roll. And I was looking
at the schedule for next year, and you know, and
the schedule's not out obviously, but in the opponents, but
the opponents look pretty much set. I can talk about
(37:30):
that when this calls over. But you know, you kind
of can tell who they're gonna play next year, but
it's hard to tell.
Speaker 9 (37:40):
Yeah, the main thing I wanted to call in and
say is Merry Christmas to you and Chris and everybody
behind the scenes. I love the show and the only
thing I really would like is one day, give my
T shirt.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
You don't have your T shirt? All right, Chris? Do
we have we have your address?
Speaker 14 (37:58):
I hope.
Speaker 9 (37:58):
So I've said it several times, all right.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Well we'll get it. We'll get it for you. We'll
get it for you. Watch you if I if I never.
Speaker 9 (38:05):
Getting your law is going to me. So that's a
good thing. But anyway, like I said, love your show. Uh,
you're a great nick and so is Chris forgetting us
on and best show on Dallas Cowboys dot Com. Like
I said, Christmas, Happy.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
New Year, Thank you out. Stay on the line, Stay
on the line, don't hang out. Let's let Chris get
all the information. We'll get this out to you. Okay,
make sure we have it right now. All right, all right,
thank you so much. All right, Oh man, we got
those Cowboys storyline shirts. We gotta, we gotta. We're gonna
have some new ones this year. So for the all
(38:39):
storyline team. Trying to think when I want to announce
that after the season let it roll. I guess when
when we stopped going to to uh a daily, which
that'll be sooner than later. Then I'll start taleling everything
up and look and see who's who's made the team
and uh and then what I'm gonna do exactly this year.
(39:00):
But man, I gotta gotta get all the shirts out
to the last year's winners before we start talking about
the next one, for sure. So all right, you know,
I know a lot of people were talking about the
Eagles and and you know, just beating them and and
doesn't matter what and and you know that's that's good
(39:21):
because that's how they feel too. You know they feel
the same way about about the Cowboys. Uh and and
it's you know that there's been times when when that's
happened to you know, where the Cowboys or the team
playing for something. But you know, now, if Philly makes
that catch, if Vante Smith makes that catch over the middle,
they win the game, and you know, they win the division.
(39:44):
Now they'd still be playing for first for the number
one seed in the in the NFC, which is which
is big because you're only you know, only one team
gets the buy. But so they'll be they'll be playing
for something. And and and you know, I think I
think Washington, Washington plays the Giants, so they you know,
Philly's got to win. I mean, they're gonna be bringing
(40:06):
it with everything that they that they have. Here we
still got about ten minutes ago. Phone lines are open
eight eight eight eight five five two two ninety seven.
If you want to call and be the last caller
here before Chris, I got something for you. I got
someone for you real quick. So I haven't typed it
in yet. So Chris and San Angelo? All right, Chris
and San Angelo.
Speaker 8 (40:24):
What's up man, mister Nick? How you doing, sir good?
Speaker 4 (40:27):
How are you doing?
Speaker 8 (40:28):
I'm doing wonderful. And uh I did here yesterday and
I tried to get into there was another caller from
San Angelo and I actually don't even know who he is.
Speaker 9 (40:38):
So there you go, Oh, really bigger.
Speaker 8 (40:39):
It's a bigger town than you think.
Speaker 9 (40:41):
I guess.
Speaker 8 (40:42):
But what I was gonna do is I'm gonna point
out the Uh there's one thing. I don't think his
name was mentioned in that last game, but Donovan Wilson
seemed to bring it.
Speaker 4 (40:54):
Oh man, I'm lying around.
Speaker 8 (40:56):
Yeah, I'm I'm lining up at widers. Ever now after
watching that against I'm wanting to know where number six
is now. Yeah, so we've been missing that for a while.
That was good to see again. And Christmas movie, let's
go with Christmas Vacation. Okay, with a little bit of
shout out. You do need to watch It's a Wonderful
(41:18):
Life if you if you still haven't seen it, you
have to see it one time you're loft. It is
a really good movie.
Speaker 4 (41:24):
All right, probably okay, buddy, I should all right, thank.
Speaker 8 (41:27):
You all the storyline up, my friends and the storyliner
they know who they know who they are.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
Yeah for sure, take care buddy, all right. Thanks, And
I love that. It's one of my favorite things that's
happened on this show is just what the show has
done and kind of brought people together. And you know,
they you guys do the the Twitter spaces in the community,
(41:56):
the storyliners there, you guys are going to be able
to you know, you guys have met people you you
never knew across across the world really, and that's that's
really awesome that this show has been able to do
that bring everybody together. I love it because it just
reconnects me with the fan base and and you know,
I've got a chance to to kind of you know,
get that perspective again.
Speaker 15 (42:17):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
Sometimes it gets lost when you're inside the building and
you're in the media and all that stuff. But when
you you know, the interactions that I get with the fans,
it's really pretty awesome, Uh, to be able to do that.
So tieling up some of the Christmas movies here, It's
a Wonderful Life and the Grinch got the lead, but
(42:37):
Christmas Vacation and Elf and die Hard all all making
strong push their Home Alone as well. For me, I've
had four Christmas because I love Vince Vaughan. Anything Vince
Vaughan does, it's hilarious. But you know, Elf and Home Alone,
I'm I'm I'm fine with those. Never was a big
fan of Christmas Story. I don't really know why. Just
(43:01):
didn't really like that. You know, She'll shoot your eye out,
you know. I don't know. I just don't like that
movie that much. But but Chris, Home Alone and and Elf,
those will probably be on I'm sure at the house.
All right, Le's go to Leicester and Minnesota. Lester, what's up?
Speaker 13 (43:17):
Hey, Nick? Good morning to you.
Speaker 4 (43:19):
How are you doing?
Speaker 13 (43:21):
Cowboy Nations? Merry Christmas everybody?
Speaker 4 (43:26):
What do you want for Christmas?
Speaker 8 (43:27):
Man?
Speaker 4 (43:28):
What do you want?
Speaker 13 (43:29):
What I want for Christmas? Yeah, well it would have
to be next Christmas. I want a Cowboys Super Bowl appearance.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
Okay, Well I figured you would be asking for an
offense and defensive line played well at the same time.
Speaker 13 (43:46):
Well, yeah, that's that's that's what I want for next
next season. So next season, let me get that offensive
and defensive line at the same time, and then we
can get that Super Bowl right on then there, because again,
if you can't protect your quarterback, he's gonna be on
his back. And if you can't stop to run, they're
(44:07):
gonna run all over you. On defense. Yep, I want
those two things, my friend. My favorite Christmas movie and
I've said it before, it's a wonderful life. All right,
and go Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
Thanks all.
Speaker 13 (44:21):
I gott merry Christmas at all.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
All right, Thanks Lester. I appreciate that I wanted to
go back on the last caller. Chris and San Angelo
asked about or talked about Donovan Wilson, and you know,
I think what should be said is he's done a
really nice job of playing just as aggressive as you
(44:44):
can be. It is a hard position in the NFL
to play safety because every single time you hit someone
over the middle, we're all expecting a flag.
Speaker 7 (44:55):
You know.
Speaker 4 (44:55):
It's just something that that the BAFs do. It's like
you just can't hit hard. And so to be able
to to play aggressive, fly around and hit the way
he did and do it all legally, that's that was
That's a huge thing for him and and he's he's
had to grow into that and play you know, he
(45:16):
plays kind of reckless at times, and that's what I
was hoping Sam Williams would be able to do this year,
is kind of take it to that next level because
we see those guys, we see Donald Wilson, Randy Gregory
was that way Sam Williams, where you know, they get
a lot of penalties because they just play so aggressive.
But you got to figure out a way to kind
of bottle that up. Play is as aggressive as you
can play and kind of be that enforcer without getting penalties.
(45:40):
And I thought that was the key part to him
the other night is setting the tone and making big hits.
Sometimes he jarted the ball loose, sometimes he didn't. But
either way, even if the guy catches it for a
first down, he doesn't forget the hit that he just took.
So either thought, that's the thing that I see out
of Dondvan Wilson that that's impressed to me is that
(46:00):
he's learned how to play with that same aggressive nature
but do it in a way where you know he's
not getting penalties. All right, Let's go to our next caller,
Eric in North Carolina.
Speaker 20 (46:12):
Hey, Nick, I just wanted to call and say how
pleased I've been with with the way the Cowboys have
been playing, because I was complaining earlier in the year
about them not play with any passion, and they sure
have been playing with passion and grit the last few games.
And I have to say they surprised me. And they
(46:36):
must really truly listen to McCarthy and the coaching staff
after all, because they seem to want to play well
for him, and you know, and of course you know
they want to don't want to put bad tape out,
but like he didn't move the team like I was
afraid he was going to do it. So I'm really encouraged.
And uh you you'all were just talking about Donvin Wilson
(46:59):
and how well he's been playing, and he has especially
compared to early in the season, and I wanted to
say the same thing about Terrence Steele. He's been playing
well the last few games as far as I can tell,
and early in the season he was just getting beat
around the edge. I wonder if he and Wilson we're
maybe injured, you know, and we weren't aware of it.
(47:23):
And the last thing I'll say is, and I'll let
you talk about all these anything you like, of course,
but since it's you know, Christmas time, the season of giving.
I wanted to say that if the draft was tomorrow,
with my top three picks, I would take corner, defensive tackle,
three technique, and running back. And hope you and Chris
(47:48):
and everybody have a terrific and great Mary Christmas, and
we'll see y'all later.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
Thank you appreciate that. You know, I don't hate any
of those. I think though, you know, it would probably
be a smart move. I'm I'm probably fine with the
guard in the first round. I would be absolutely fine
with whatever that is. What if you're picking in the teams,
(48:13):
it's not going to be the sexiest pick, but neither
was Zach Martin. But but until it was, you know,
so you know, if you get a guy like that,
some some really really surefire blocker that's going to come
in here and be a staple for ten years, I'd
be absolutely okay with that because I do think that
helps your running game, that will help Dak, that'll help everybody,
(48:38):
and so I would be fine with that. If if
but I'm fine if that. If it's a defensive tackle,
it's fine. If it's a corner, you know you need
that too, for sure. Got decisions to make Deron Blands
contracts coming up, and you know, we got to see
what they're gonna do with Diggs. I know he's coming
off injury, so that's gonna be that's you know, it's
(48:58):
just all gonna be a challenge, all right. Uh, that
is it for the calls. Fourteen calls today. Outstanding guys
did a great job of getting in, getting out, saying
Mary Christmas, doing all that that stuff, talking about movies,
talking about the game, talking about draft, talking about everything.
I loved it. Loved this show today and I and
(49:18):
all year long it's been it's been outstanding. I can't
I can't tell you enough just just how how fun
this this show is for me, Uh to be able
to do this, I said it a few minutes ago,
but but it really is. It's it's my favorite part
of the day and and I love doing that. So
and you guys are just so knowledgeable. I mean that
(49:39):
that that's one thing, and I guess I knew that,
but just just uh, just being challenged, whether it be
trivia questions or just just just in points in general. Uh,
you guys are so knowledgeable. It's fun to be able
to share this hour with you uh, every day, and
so I'm gonna miss that part when the season's over here.
But we still got a couple more weeks to do that,
and so we won't have a show tomorrow obviously. Merry
(50:00):
Christmas to everyone out there, and hope everyone stays safe
with the weather and all that music means it's time
to wrap this thing up, but we got to keep
it going. Cowboys Break, we'll be here just in a
few minutes and we'll have shows going here all day long.
So for Chrispy, I'm Nick Eatman. Merry Christmas to everyone.
We will see you on Thursday on Cowboys Storyline.
Speaker 15 (50:26):
