Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up everyone. Welcome to a Week ten Giants hangout,
brought to you by Cress Strawn. My name is Madeline Burke,
joined as always by Russ Salzburg, Jonathan Casias, and Brandon London. Guys,
we got to start with a week nine recap because
the Giants are coming off a tough one against the
forty nine Ers, falling at home another game to see
us in which the run defense struggled.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, it's not good, guys, looking at the film. Of course,
at the stadium it wasn't good with half the stadium
being read and the forty nine Ers fans being very,
very loud. From the beginning of the game. I was
doing visits, I heard a cheer. I was like, oh,
what do we do good? We didn't do anything good.
It was the forty nine ers doing something good. Yeah,
(00:40):
it's the same things, medling. There's the same things on
film that I'm looking mistackling. Of course, mental errors. People
are not in the right gaps, out leveraging the defense,
not getting downhill when they need to get downhill. They're
on their third linebacker. You know, moois how going down
that hurts the Giants for sure? Not a lot of
(01:00):
kickback from the defensive line up front. You know, I
don't think you know Banks talking about Dexter about respect.
He's still getting doubled, you know, But I don't see
the kickback from him from the other guys that I
would normally see. And as the game wore on, we
could say the efforts there, but they're getting leaned on
a lot more as the game go on. What I
(01:21):
do notice though, they do a good job against explosives
in the run game, but that means that they're constantly
getting four or five six yards in the run game.
And then of course we're going to talk about the Bears.
The Bears ran the ball thirty seven times last week.
So the Giant's going to have a tall task going
against this offense coming up this week. And they got
to figure out a way to slow this thing down
(01:42):
because teams just won't pass the ball and give Brian
Burns an opportunity to get another sack this year.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah, And I mean, as much as the defense struggle, though,
we got to kind of give a little love to
the right side of the offense. When you look at
Jackson start another game with a rushing and a passing
touchdown Russ. He's done that every game he's played. That's
a rookie record. What are you liking with what you're
seeing from Dart so far?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Well, you love everything about Dart, I mean, and it's
not just a running it's not just as passing, probably
more so than anything. And we've discussed this every week
since he's been playing. He's the leader as a rookie,
he's the leader of a team. But Jackson Dart can't
do it by himself. Jackson Dart as the quarterback. You
want to put your teammates in position to make plays
(02:27):
for you, and unfortunately they're not making plays for Jackson Dart.
And I hate to say this, but we did it
last week and I'll say it again. Theo Johnson third
down pass over the middle, it's right there in your hands.
You don't catch it.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Darius Slayton a touchdown in the end zone, you got
to catch it. I mean, both these guys.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I'm fans of both these guys, but that's the second
week in a row they both did that.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
They both dropped passes.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
You gotta make plays, and darn he's the real deal.
We know the Giants have themselves a quarterback for the future.
He's not just for the future, he's the quarterback now.
But you know, the effort is not a problem. The
problem is execution. You need to make plays and they're
just up.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
And especially as a pass catcher and Brandon as a
wide receiver. You know when you watch this, how do
how do you fix that issue?
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Well, you know it's it's not something I can just
say like, hey, you gotta here's this magic wand and
you gotta do this, and all of a sudden, all
the giants offense of struggles, especially in the receiver position,
just goes away.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
But you got to look at it.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Here's the grand opportunity for either one of those guys.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
Jac my rookie year O seven like Russ.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
You know, when I got any sort of opportunity to
go with the ones, then I'm coming down with every
single ball that you can come down with. These guys
stay after practice with Jackson Dart and throw extra These
guys stay in meetings longer with Mike grow And also
it's you're doing the right things behind the scenes, but
(04:09):
when the moment comes, the moment is becoming too bright
for some of these guys. But it's something that you
hear the frustration in Russ's voice, you hear the calm
frustration and Johnathan Casia's voice. Everyone expects more out of
these guys because.
Speaker 6 (04:24):
We've seen it. We've seen these guys play to a
higher level. And that's the thing that gets me the most, JC.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
Is the fact that you can have raw, ra guy
type leaders in the locker room and people can call
for leaders, but if you're not fixing things as a whole,
Like I can't ask Brian Burns to tell a receiver
to catch a ball, you know what I'm saying. It's
a thing that it's like, all right, this is my role.
I'm one of eleven. Here's my job and what I
(04:51):
have to do that moment. You gotta make the most
out of your moment. And that's just not what we've
been able to see since the second half of that Oh.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Go ahead, Yeah No, I was gonna say Brandon at
that point. And I've always been to guy that say
do your job plus but sometimes they're trying to do
other people's jobs. And I'm starting to see that a
little bit more. You got Jackson darr and we all
understand his passion for the game. You know his ability
to make plays with his feet, with his arm, you
know his his you know eyes downfield every single play,
(05:21):
the decisiveness that he has. But he's not a running back.
We don't need you to be their running back. We
don't need you to replace Cam Scattable with the physical
running because you do play quarterback and we need you
to survive this season. We need you like that. And
now see other guys trying to do more, but like
out of their job description, like do your job plus
not do somebody else's job. And because other people aren't
(05:44):
kind of filling in and doing what they're supposed to do,
there's other guys doing it. And that's when big holes
are created on defense, lashes happen on offense and missed opportunities.
It's so frustrating seeing these mistackles, miscalculations to false star
in a row. Missfield goes like, it's just so frustrating
seeing it. Because the Giants, if they do capitalize on
(06:06):
these opportunities.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
They're in every single game. They're not getting blown out
the water.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
They're making mistakes that's getting themselves out of the game.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Well and to your point though, too about doing your
job plus one guy who's absolutely doing his job. Plus,
Brian Burns absolutely eleven sacks on the season through nine games. Again,
I've said this before, his career high is twelve and
a half on the season. We're at the halfway mark
and he's at eleven. And not just sacks. He's disrupting
the game because he's He pointed out that play in
(06:34):
which he stripsacked mac Jones. They called it a fumble
recovered in the air by a blue harder instead of
an interception. Mac Jones at the time was a perfect
fourteen for fourteen passing some contexts there. He also batted
down a pass later in the game. So Burns has
been a complete disruptor on this defensive side of the ball.
He's absolutely doing his job. Plus with a lot of
(06:56):
help from the fact that they are getting pressure on
the quarterback from other angles. Just needs to be more
consistent in a way that can consistently threaten these opposing offenses.
And one offense that the Giants have next week is
the Bears. And we watched the game the Bears played
against the Bengals in Week nine. First of all, a
shootout forty seven to forty two. The final score. Second
(07:17):
off all Ben Johnson, though, RUSS getting very creative with
this offense, four different players throwing a pass in that game,
Caleb Williams thrown for three touchdowns and having a receiving touchdown.
When you look at an offense like that, Russ, how
does this defense prepare?
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Well, Listen, we've seen I don't want to make excuses,
but the Giants, you know, let's be fair. The Giants said,
dealing with injuries. Okay, they are dealing with injuries. As
Jac said, they're on their third middle linebacker. But that said,
this is the NFL. You got to make plays. I mean,
(07:54):
they got to shut down the run. You know, jac
made a good point. I think everybody is trying to
do somebody else's job.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
I mean, maybe they're trying.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
To help out. Let me, I gotta help this guy.
But you got to concentrate on you first. Take care
of you and your own personal business first. You know,
you get it just seems that the defense is out
of sync, and quite frankly, I'm dumbfounded by it.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
This defense.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Yeah, it's part of that too, because of the amount
of new faces in there and players who are saying, okay,
I recognize that this might be this guy's first start.
So I'm doing my job, but I'm kind of looking
over my shouldered making sure doing his and not fully
trusting what. You know, the man behind you is executing
where he's supposed to because he is.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
No, but that's it though Russ was talking about it
just now. You know, like like I said before, you
do your job, and you do a little bit better,
you give a little bit more effort, but you can't
be looking to see if somebody else does his job.
That's what I trust. Comes in at and mattling you
hit it. Young guys, new guys. That's it's kind of
hard to trust them. So I kind of see where
it's coming from. But at the end of the day, bro,
(09:02):
when you look at the stats, the Giants are the
back end of the rushing And when you look at
a team and their physicality and their dominance.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
And you say, look, this team is physically beating the
other team, you.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Know what you look at you look at the rushing yards.
So the Giants have been basically physically dominated in almost
every single game this year. And this, excuse me, this
Bears team's coming in. They don't care if Williams throws
the ball thirty times or forty times. They care if
their running back gets the ball thirty to forty times,
because in the last two games they have thirty seven
(09:34):
and forty carries with their running backs, and looking at
that film for the last two weeks for the Giants,
I'm pretty sure that number will go up to over
forty because they're going to do everything they can to
establish their physical presence against the Giants.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yeah, in recent weeks, the Bears have really been leaning
heavier on the run game. The early part of the season,
they weren't really running the ball. Now they absolutely are.
And even though DeAndre Swift goes down with an injury,
Kyle m Nungai comes in one hundred and seventy six
rushing yards old, big deal. It's going to be a
tough opponent for the Giants defense. But Brendan, you know,
the Giants offense would possibly take advantage of a struggling
(10:08):
Bears defense. Again, this could be a game like we
saw the Bears played last week, where it's just whoever
can put the most points up. How do they take
advantage of a Bear's defense that allowed Cincinnati to put
up forty two?
Speaker 6 (10:18):
Well, you know, obviously you got to get that run
game going.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
You know Jackson dark again, we talk about him playing
hero ball and do your job. Plus he led the
team in rushing this past game. So you want to
get more out of Devin Singletary and Tyron and Tracy
Junior and hopefully we can see we can get a
turbo Miller spotting to see what he can add to
this offense. But you know what, Russ, One thing I
(10:42):
love about Wednesdays, I come into the cafeteria, I said,
I have a little powwow with you.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
We talk about do your job.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
Plus offensive side of the things, let's roar at gunner Rossky.
He has done everything right and not only as a
kick returner pump returner, but for him to step in
late in the game, run that corner route and catch
that touchdown in double coverage, I now think that he
should kind of get bumped up and looked at at
(11:09):
receiver a little bit, because when we talk about going
up against a defense like the Bears, who's going to
give it up?
Speaker 6 (11:15):
JC If we want to get more out of.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
The receiver position outside of Wandell Robinson and just his
shorter intermediate routes, gunner. Rosewsky offers a catch and run
type offense for Jackson Darts, so it could be a
get right game for Darius Slayton. Allow me to reintroduce
myself type game Ray Ray McCloud didn't really get any
(11:40):
targets in his first game, and he's a new guy
within the offense. But all it takes is using a
defense like the Chicago Bears to get the passing game
back on track. And it all starts by being able
to run the football effectively and consistently.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
And execute cute execute.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Execute, run the football effectively. Do your job and know
your assignment. But how do you know? What do you say? Russ,
Let's turn the page of some trivia. What do you
got for us this week?
Speaker 4 (12:12):
All right? Well, well this is like happy memories? Okay, yeah,
what do you know? What do you say? Folks? Back
in two thousand and seven, on their road to winning
their third Super Bowl, the Giants stopped off in the
windy city of Chicago. It was Week thirteen where they
defeated the Bears twenty one sixteen. I want you to
(12:36):
give me the names of the three Giants who scored
touchdowns in that game. All right, twenty one sixteen.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
Sow, no, oh, that was wrong. That was the Buffalo
Bill's game.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Melexico bus Nope, money tumor money is one. That's right, okay.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Two thousand and seven, where Derek Ward.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
That's my year. Where Derrick Ward? Derek Okay, he will okay.
The last Brennan you were Oh look at you, Ruben Drones.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
I didn't think somebody would as Madeline was trying to
call me out too.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
That was team you up and being like all right, listen,
I know you.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
The Ballones scored with less than two minutes to go
and they won that game twenty one sixteen.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
There we go, guys, let's go.
Speaker 6 (13:36):
Fun fact on that rush.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
You know how everyone says Earth winning fire when it
was you know, Brandon Jacobs, Amar Bradshaw and Derek Ward.
Speaker 6 (13:44):
Ruben Drones always say, well, I was thunder. I was thunder,
like he always wants to be in.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
That mix because he had a couple of touchdowns and
he stepped in for guys when they went down, so.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Very good. I'm impressure playing fire thunder.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
You know, we got to turn the page to week
ten because we're moving on to the Bears. Giants and
Bears Week ten. These are two cities that are known
to be great food cities. So we're staying in the
fun zone here on Giants hanging out right here because
I need y'all to get me some blind rankings on
some food cities. All right, I know all y'all can eat.
I have seen you in the Giants cafeteria.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
So I know.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
No, we are here for some cuisine rankings. I'm gonna
give you five cities and you're gonna hit me with
a blind ranking of one through five in power rankings
of the food known for the city, starting with New Orleans, Louisiana.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
We're starting with you played there.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Ooh, what's your blending?
Speaker 4 (14:53):
What's the question like, where we would rank the city
in terms of food? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Yeah, some one, two, three, four, or five. Pick a
number one if.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
You let me go first. There's no way I can
pick another city in the United States over New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
New Orleans for me is number one.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
I'm sorry, guys.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
On the contrary, I put it at too, because I
already know who's.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
My one there.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Okay, okay, I gotta tell you on this one. I've
got to go with JC and and normally you know.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Uh, Now, I gotta tell you New Orleans, man, they
come up with some great stuff there and.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Crawfish broil, oh, crab claws. Hey, I once had the
julh say that again. Gated cheesecake. How's that?
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Let's go? Okay, New Orleans Number one for j C
and Russ, Number two for Brandon. Next city on the list, Chicago.
You guys a big fan of Deep Dish, lumaol Natties.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
I'm going five on that one.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
The deep dish, what a a small one time jac
and I had leftovers for my leftovers.
Speaker 6 (16:04):
It's just too big. Anybody bread, that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Yeah, yeah, you could put that at the if you
had a rowboat or something. You can make that an
anchor to keep it in place. Just no, I go
with number five. Also, I agree, I'm gonna go I'm
gonna go four.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
I don't know if there's you know, I'm not gonna
call it the worst city that I've eaten food, but
I wasn't too enthused the times I've been in Chicago
and eating there.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Okay, Next up, New York City, I'm.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Going number two, number two. It's just it's so diverse,
like you can have. You can go to different areas
of the city and get different foods. They have like
a tremendous Jamaican restaurant, But how many tremendous Jamaican restaurant
They have Soufoo restaurants, they have Chinese food, they have
the best pizza in the world. So I think New
York we all understand New York's peace. New York's pizza
(17:01):
alone put them at number.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
Two, and because of that, I'm going number three. New
York food has no identity.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
You just said all these differs.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Okay, okay, okay, that's fair.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
The idea, are you running the football or you're passing
the football?
Speaker 7 (17:13):
How are we doing it longer you're satisfied, that's what
you're doing. Getting away As far as I agree, I mean,
I picked New Orleans one, so New York's gotta be
number two.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
The identity for New York is it's all good. Also
all the.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Time, you really can't go wrong, and you get anything
in New York City. I feel like I go number
one on that one too. All right, Miami, where we
ranking Miami?
Speaker 2 (17:38):
I'm going number three because I got number one and
two taken care of. I love Spanish food. As we
know a lot of Hispanics Espanol Latinos down in Miami,
and I love my Spanish food. I might have put
them higher, but I'm standing firm on that. With New
York at number two in Miami number three, I'll go
Miami number four.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
Okay, I gotta go number four. I played down there
in Miami, just like you JC.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
You know, I wanted to.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Go for.
Speaker 6 (18:08):
Something that I wrote No boy yo, that I'm waiting on.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
I'm thinking I'm holding out for my number one because
I'm hoping it's it's who I think it is.
Speaker 6 (18:17):
So I got to.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Go for Brandon's holding his number one spot. Beau Sees,
you've only got five left. Russ, You've also only got
five left.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
No, I think I have three left.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
The three left?
Speaker 6 (18:29):
All right?
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Well, the final city in our blind rankings, Brandon's number
one food city is Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
Oh my god, talk about backfire cheese curs.
Speaker 6 (18:42):
Messed up my stomach. Man, I can't do that.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
And for a guy that played at the University of
Wisconsin for four years, right, the first time I ever
went to like a dinner, they were like, have you
had a brock?
Speaker 4 (18:53):
Have you had a bro and I was like, what
the heck is a bro I enjoy a brock. I
do enjoy a brock, but the.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Cheese curds the amount of cheese that they just don't
get it twisted. The cheese out there tastes better than
cheese all throughout the country, but it's a little too
much for me. I'm a guy that goes to the
bath froom like four or five times a day. I
don't really like that type of food that's sitting in
my stomach. So He'm glad that I left that number
five spot.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Super tolerant.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Sure, you know what. I am so glad.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
It goes to show you how we take the hangout
to another place. Because JC just let us know that
he goes to the john four or.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Five times a day. What else does that have to
be said on that? What else is that's.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
A social clip?
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Like goods graduations.
Speaker 6 (19:44):
I was holding out for Dallas. I was holding out
for Dallas bar.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
I thought Dallas would be in there. I mean, Green Day,
Are you kidding me? Take it up?
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Taking up with Parson? You know purpose I got to
keep you on your toes, right, Brandon's numb for one
food city in America.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Don't put that out on social Yeah, hey, restaurant Lombardi's
is a great.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Restaurant, that is true, Lactose super Tollerant, Carle of America.
All right, let's go. Let's get a little over under
to close out the show here, because Giants taking on
the Bears in Chicago in the Windy City, starting with
Jackson Dark two hundred yards passing Brendan is he gonna
sling it over under two hundred yards passing in for
(20:29):
contacts he threw for one ninety one last week?
Speaker 5 (20:31):
Uh, you know absolutely, I think he slings this thing
going against a Bears defense that struggles not only against
the run but the passing game. But hey, Superman wears
his cape and Jackson Dart has been everything that he's uh,
they traded up for him to be.
Speaker 6 (20:47):
So I'm gonna go over on.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
This one, and I think a wide receiver steps up
and I'll make some plays for him, all right, Russ, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
I have to think if they got a chance, Giants
are gonna win this game, He's gonna to.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Go over two hundred yards. So I agree with that.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Yeah, yeah, I agree too. And Madlane, the point you
made earlier about who scores last. It might be one
of those back and forth type of games where their
big plays are happening on both sides of the fall football.
And I think Jackson Dart goes over two hundred he's
gonna have, I think, a really good day both through
the air and then also on the ground.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
I'm going to agree with the crew here and to
your point too, We're going to see a lot of
high scoring in this one and a lot of a
lot of passes thrown. So I'm going to take the
over on two hundred yards for Jackson Dart as well
over under half the touchdown for the Giants running backs. Ross.
So do the Giants running backs score a touchdown?
Speaker 4 (21:41):
That's a good question. Eight touchdown?
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Well, listen, if they're not going to score a touchdown,
then I'm not optimistic about being a getting a win,
and I want to be optimistic, so I will say
they'll score.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
A touchdown, a running back touchdown.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yet you see us.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Well, I'm I mean, we have one touchdown for the
healthy running backs for the season so far. Scotti Will
had five, Dart has five. I don't see it happening
with the running backs. The Giants have had a lot
of touchdown passes in the low red zone or Jackson
(22:19):
Dart has run the ball in, so I'm kind of
leaning more towards that.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
So I'm gonna say no, Brandon.
Speaker 6 (22:25):
I'm gonna go over.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
You know, I just talked about Earth when fire thunderwater,
Like I'm captain planning over here.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
Let's be able to they want to win the game.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
They're going to have to be able to run the
ball effectively, and I think they get some sort of
short yardage to go line type touchdown.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
I'm gonna go over too, because a running backs scoring
a touchdown doesn't necessarily means it's a rushing touchdown, you know,
could be it.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
And I think with the weapons you see, I mean,
you know, yeah, Jackson Dart's running in, but the weapons
you see too, maybe you got a call Tyrone. You
can see Tyrone get in there. Maybe singletary power one through.
I don't know, but I could see it, especially in
a game in which I'm anticipating lots of scoring. All Right, Finally,
Giants defense over under half of a turnover force. So
(23:11):
because he does, the Giants defense get a take away.
Caleb hasn't really been given it away this season.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Yeah, I think so. You know what Brian Burns out
there to his ability to create plays. You know, uh,
he created a turnover last week, whether it was a fumble,
recovery of interception, whatever was, he created that play him alone.
I think he'll be able to cover that.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
That over under Randon.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
I think over just because again you got Brian Burns,
you he's gonna have to have a pissed off Dexter Lawrence.
But the guy I think we need to really keep
an eye on is Kaevon Thibodau. You know, when he
goes a little quiet a game or two, he has
that explosion game in that second to third game. So
I think this is him forcing that fumble. Because Kavon
has been playing well this year.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
Now he can.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Add to the stats to show that the back the
point up that he's been playing well.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Russ, Yeah, I'd have to go over to I mean, listen,
this defense was embarrassed last week. They gotta be cranky, arnoery,
tipped off, whatever you want to call it. So and
I think that leads to getting something. So I'll say
over as well.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Let's go for it. Let's get the overs across the board.
We like to see the Giants defense taking it away.
