Speaker 1 (00:16):
Welcome into jag Zam today and Nannie Stevens, Brian Text,
and John Osier with you as we get ready for
another divisional matchup with the Texans this league. But it
was prey deadline day yesterday, So that's our first big
thing for you. Big Things brought to you by GEAJA
Government Employees Health Association Benefits for federal employees and retirees.
So Big Thing number one is a deadline deal. We
knew James Gladstone likes to be involved in these sorts
(00:38):
of things, and he was calling around, but he got
himself another wide receiver, Jacobe Myers going to be joining
this team. Just played the team that he was on
previously in the Raiders this week. Brian, what is this
going to add to the wide receiver room?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Well, listen, I called a couple of guys to scout
the league that I know through the years, and I
got three things back on him. One is that he
is a pro. Right, he fits the DNA of what
Tony Biselli, James Gladstow, and Liam Cohen are looking for.
The guy is a pro. He's a top competitor, he
wants to win. He enjoys the process of preparing to win,
(01:09):
so again fits all of that. And then John from
a football perspective, he's a guy who runs precise routes
and has dependable hands. That's always been the word on him.
Last year eighty seven catches over a thousand yards. He's
a guy that should be where he's supposed to be
and someone that the quarterback can depend on.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah, when he gets the system, I think he'll have
a chance to be the most reliable route runner that
Trevor has. Remember how much he liked playing with Christian
Kirk because Christian was always.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
At precise places, you know. Choby Myers is very good
at that.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
I think when they get Brenton Strange back, you'll have
two guys who Trevor will know exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Where it is.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Parker Washington's been doing a good job of that as well,
So I definitely think that this adds that, and it's
not necessarily at all.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
I don't think a one year rental run.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
By the way, those thousand yards and eighty seven catches.
John Kay last year and into this year five different
quarterbacks that he played with during his time in Las Vegas,
so it goes to show up his consistently he does
the little things well day in and day out, and
that's a good reason to take a shot and send
a forth and a six round pick for him.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Absolutely needed this time, especially with what the wide receiver
room is dealing with in terms of injuries, what the
whole team is dealing with and team of injuries. That's
our second big thing, which is next span up. The
team is banged up right now. Hopefully after the bye week,
you're hoping you can be a little bit healthy. But
some more injuries happening in this game, most recently against
the Raiders. We'll find out some more about that a
little bit later on.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
But John, what.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Are some timeline updates in terms of Breton Strange and
Devin Lloyd that we know so far?
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Well, it's a laundry list.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I mean, you've also got Jordan Lewis banged U, Brian
Thomas doing your Bang debt. You have me by on
Bang debt, So I mean we could go through the
list find out more today.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
I expect.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
My gut is that Brenton's Strange, he can come offire.
It's getting a with my gut, but I think he
will be able to play against the Chargers. I think,
which is next week, you hope, because he you know,
you forget how important he is to this Devin Lloyd.
It sounded from listening to Liam on Monday like there
was a chance that he could play this Sunday.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
But it also sounded.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Like, you know, Liam talked a lot about his calf
and how that can be a very risk injury to
bring him back too quick. So it sounds like you'd
be real careful with dev And I'm not a doctor,
so I don't know how you know how close he is,
but there are on the side of caution with that one.
And I don't know that it's guaranteed this week, but
that's a guess.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
You know, it's worth noting the trade deadline. Football is
a game of attrition. You lose guys, you have to
draft well, you have to coach even better to have
guys ready to play. And the draft deadline pushing that
back and making it more of a media event. Well,
the league is great at doing that, and it makes
it seem like you can all of your problems by
going and throwing some draft picks around. You can't do it.
(04:03):
Jaguars obviously couldn't add a corner or a safety, yesterday
they couldn't find a tight end. It just wasn't possible.
So you've got to rely now on some guys. You
need Monterrek Brown to play well, and of course he
had the interception last week. You need to figure out
can you get Quentin Morris on the field, can you
get more from the tight end position while you wait
for Brenton Strange to be ready to play, and can
(04:25):
you ask Ben trel Miller to play even more than
he has at a higher level. This thing with these
injured players, it's league wide. It always is in November.
Welcome to November in the NFL. Jaguars got to find
a way to survive with some backup guys and coach
their butts off to get them ready to play.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Our final big thing today going to be look ahead.
You mentioned the injuries we're dealing with. The Texans also
dealing with some injury CJ. Stroud and concussion protocol at
this point, and we don't necessarily know if he'll be
ready to go for game time. But this is a
huge opportunity for them to try and sweep the Texans
this week when they take them on for the first
time in quite some time.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Brian what the Texans since twenty seventeen and that was gosh,
that was so long ago. The Jaguars played Dan Savage,
he was their starting quarterback on opening Day at NRG
Stadium back in twenty ten, and that was a ten
sack day. It was an enormous day, ten sack day.
They get Davis Mills this week if CJ. Stroud can't go,
(05:20):
And though Davis Mills has five victories, one of them
is against the Jaguars back in twenty twenty one when
he was a rookie from Stanford here in Jacksonville. But
he's five, nineteen and one. That would be a major
break for a football team that is as banged up
as this one is. Last week they moved the ball
John but it only came away with a couple of
field goals. Five field goals. So the Jaguars, if c. J.
(05:41):
Stroud doesn't play, have an opportunity. It just sometimes it
comes out this way that you have a pivotal game
against a division foe, you're banged up, but they're missing
a more critical player. It's a distinct opportunity, despite how
banged up this team is, to be able to go
on the road in the division essentially put the Texans,
you know, a really difficult spot.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah, when you're as beat up as the Jaguars are,
and I don't know if they're gonna get you know,
less feed up as you go along.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
They can get healthy, great.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
But if they're going to be sort of an attrition
team as they move forward, then there's gonna be a
couple down the road that the matchup just doesn't work
because you're down personnel. That being said, it's why a
game such as Sunday is so important because if you're
sort of limping to the finish, which again I don't
know if they will be, but they're so beat up
right now, you've got to get the gettables and with CJ.
(06:32):
Stroud out, this becomes one where you know, coin flip whatever.
Certainly not an advantage for either team, it doesn't look
like objectively. So these are the kinds you gotta get
if you're gonna sort of limp your way or grind
your way as a better term.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Into the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
All right, stay with us here on Jagsam. Coming up
after the break, we're gonna do a little this or
that as we look ahead to this week against the Texans.
Twelve years, dream Finders' Homes have been proud to call
themselves the official home builder of the jacksonvill Jaguars as
a dream vider homes dot com for all of the
available inventory and go Jags.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
This this welcome back into jag Van.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
We're gonna play a little this or that as we
look ahead to this game against the Texans. As mentioned
a lot of injuries that this team has been dealing with,
including some against the Raiders. So for me, the big
ones Ezra Cleveland and Jordan Lewis coming out of that
game banged up. Brian, which one's the bigger loss next
week if they can't get Jordan Lewis.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, Jordan Lewis made plays against Nico Collins the first
time they played. I mean, obviously they had Tyson Campbell
and he made a couple of big ones. But when
you lose, listen, I think everyone would say John that
the addition of Jordan Lewis and Eric Murray early on
in the season changed the trajectory of a secondary that
(07:50):
limped to the finish last year after giving up big
play after big play. Well, Murray's on injured reserve and
now if Jordan Lewis isn't able to go, then all
of a sudden, you've lost that that energy that the
veterans brought, that composure, the way that they played the game.
So I'm gonna say that the loss of Jordan Lewis
is probably more significant than Ezra Cleveland, cause you bring
(08:11):
in too much Ydoga. You've got Colby and Lanta, you
got Wyatt mile Let, You've got some options there. But
how do you replace what Jordan Lewis brings to the table.
I don't know that you can.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah, the way they're built, meaning eight offensive linemen and
maybe not any stars on the offensive line, but they
have eight or nine offensive linemen that they like.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
And you know, you were supposed to be able to
replace quite capably your first beat up in Tier your guy,
and I think they can't. So adding to the Jordan
Lewis situation. On the other side, Travis Hunter's not gonna
be the game. So you're down Travis Hunter, You're you're
down Jordan Lewis if he can't play, and Eric Murray
(08:55):
that's what three your top five back there that plays.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
So when these two teams met back in September.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Yeah, So that's uh yeah, Jordan Lewis be a big loss,
Wed a tough one.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
We'll get updates totally a little bit later on today
and what those injuries are gonna look like. This one's
my thought of this or that or just your opinions.
James Gladstone's made a lot of moves, made some free
agent signings. Obviously this is first free agent class with
this team now with the franchise. What's your favorite move
that he's made or favorite acquisition that he's made thus far?
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Probably I'm trying to think free agency like during free agency. Uh,
probably Lewis Jordan l I mean I if you count
that I U understiot free agency. They did a nice
job if I could take that whole first day meaning uh,
Eric Murray, Jordan Lewis, I thought, you know, uh, Downy
(09:46):
Brown ha hasn't really been with the other two guys
have been Hainesy. But yeah, in that first wave, Uh,
I think they did a nice job maybe not any
any Pro bowlers, but they did a nice job of Okay,
here how we can sort of elevate and get back
to where we can function some positions.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
So I thought that first day that's kind of takeing chalk.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
I mean, that's when they made the most moves, But
I thought that sort of symbolized to me how they're
gonna do this. We're gonna build smart now, eventually build
through the draft, but get these problems fixed right now.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
I'm going to divide into two. I'll go free agency
Rob Hainsey because of what he's meant to the running game.
I think that's obvious. You saw last week them run
what seven or eight straight plays for the game winning touchdown.
But I think, especially this week, I think the most
critical move that James Gladistowe made was the trade for Newsome.
I mean, you've got a veteran guy who fits more
(10:38):
your style of play, and especially if you're gonna start
Monterrek Brown on the other side and not have Travis
Hunter and not have Jordan Lewis. Newsom's a guy who
showed you last week that he's gotten more acclimated to
the scheme and the system in Jacksonville, and you're good
account on him this week against the Houston Texans. So
I think that's a really critical one.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
There's a lot of stuff to think about, even you
know Travis Hunter's trade.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Jacoby Myers is being added.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
When I was looking at the list myself, when I
thought of that question that I thought is a subtle
one that I think has played out well is trading
Tanks Bigsby to Philadelphia because travesyten has been what I
would call the MVP of the offense so far and
just showing that if you buy into the system, you'll
be rewarded. And he's been given the carries. And you know,
in the off season all we were hearing was trade
(11:22):
him away and get rid of him. And what he's
been able to do after buying into the system, well.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I mean, listen, Howie Roseman gets a lot of credit
and he should. He's built a Super Bowl champion in Philadelphia,
and he's considered one of the brightest minds in an
NFL front office, and they've been able to make a
lot of moves because he stockpiled so many picks. How
about the move to trade with Detroit last year that
brought you both of their third round picks in twenty
twenty six. Now, the Jaguars didn't end up moving them,
(11:48):
and I don't think you want to because third round
picks generally become starters, guys that you rely on. But
they had the ammunition yesterday to be able to make
any move that they felt would improve their football team.
The one that did the one that they could. But
when you look at the stockpilot picks John all that
they had, you felt good about what Gladstone would be
(12:09):
able to do as they went searching for answers this week.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Yeah. Also, I thought they.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
I made a lot of calls a lot of guys,
and I thought they played smart just doing the one.
I don't think this stage of your bill you want
to overpay for guys if you think they're just short
term rentals. So still a long term vision.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
All right, after the break, we're gonna go over some
of the big deadline deals that went down yesterday across.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
The league, says jag zam.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Rot to you buy Fields Auto Group se Fields First Tracking,
the premier luxury auto group, go to Fieldsauto dot com.
The deadline day yesterday, it's a lot of trades going down,
specifically the Jets getting rid of a lot of people,
and one of the big blockbusters of the day is
affecting the AOC South because Sauce Gardner is headed to
Indianapolis for two first round picks Brian, that's a pretty
(13:02):
hefty price to pay.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Well, especially when you're coming off of a game in
which Daniel Jones, the presumed quarterback of the future, has
five turnovers that he's responsible for. So all of a sudden,
now you might be thinking, well, we might not want to,
you know, chain ourselves to this and to pay him
the kind of contract he's going to command. We might
need some of these picks and a quarterback in the
next couple of years. But listen, it's instant gratification. These days.
(13:25):
They're going all in right now this year, giving up
two to ones for Sauce Gardner that they've been playing
without Travarious Ward, the free agent corner, they've been struggling
with pass defense. I think it's a risky move now.
I mean, if they win the Super Bowl, then they
make me look stupid for saying that. But the reality is, yeah,
if you don't win the super Bowl, that was a mistake.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Yeah, it's funny, and this is not necessarily The Cults
are the example of it, but they're not the only
team doing it. The trade deadline has changed so much,
like it used to be a few trades to get
maybe a third round pick for running backs like that,
and now it's it's a legitimate event where teams are
buying into we're gonna sell and we're gonna rebuild with
(14:08):
draft picks, and we're gonna go after it right now.
The question I have I have for the Colts move,
and if it be any franchise, I would ask this, Okay,
you've given up your first two picks, your equity builders
for twenty six and twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
That didn't that leads you without a first round pick
till twenty eight. I get it. I mean, it's just
not what.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
I was used to growing up covering this league, right,
So it's just a different way of going about it,
and you're right for them, this trade better work and
they better go deep in the postseason because then you're
hanging there with okay, how are we gonna build moving forward?
Speaker 4 (14:51):
What's going?
Speaker 2 (14:52):
You know?
Speaker 4 (14:52):
So it's it's it's a different league than it was
ten years ago with this kind of move.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
We talked a little bit about the position you're trading for,
right whether it's quarterback or or defensive tackle. Because the
Jets also sent Quentin Williams to the Cowboys, got a
bunch of picks backs so the Jets are definitely stockpiling picks.
But the Cowboys, I assume that Quentin Williams they will
think will play well for quite some time.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
John, Yeah, that's the that's the theory is uh. You know,
a defensive uh lineman, even an offensive lineman, has a
lot more shelf life of quality play into your early
thirties than maybe a running back, uh, even a cornerback.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
So that makes sense. And again it's just old school thought.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Going after defensive line or offensive line with equity picks
at this stage of a player's career makes more sense
to me than going after a cornerback like you said,
are in the break guy the way this league calls DPI.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Now, uh, I A.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
I've always said I would have trouble taking a cornerback
in the top five anymore because teams can negate that
position offensively so much.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
But that's me.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
It's interesting with the Cowboys, and I've watched the last
two games, the Broncos game was obviously on our bye weekend,
and then Monday Night Football them against the Cardinals, and
their defense really has struggled. But you've traded Micah Parsons,
who was a difference maker now for Kenny Clark and
Quinn Williams, the two defensive tackles who are right there
in the middle of the defense. So we're going to
see right now whether Jerry Jones' strategy pays off this
(16:27):
year or not. Now, they they had the pick to
swing for Quinn Williams, and they still got another pick
next year because I think they traded the twenty twenty
seven first round pick, so they've got another pick next
year in the first round. I mean, you've taken You've
taken Micah Parsons out and put in two big defensive tackles.
Better work.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, it's a curious there is a school of thought
with that age of free agent. I mean I think
Quinn Williams is twenty seventh. Yeah, twenty five to twenty seven.
You know, you give a first round pick, so like
Leonard william where you know what you're getting and there's
no risk. There's very little risk when you trade for
(17:07):
a defensive tackle because they fit most schemes. You know,
if you're built and you have the physical ability to
play that, you can go play it anywhere. So that's
a little bit of the theory too. I'm sure with
the Cowboys as look, we know this guy's good.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
But they also sort of knew.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Mike it was good. Yeah, So that's where if you're
a Cowboys fan, you're like, what's going on.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
In twenty seventeen. You remember the Jaguars knew they had
a hole in the middle of the line, and they
traded two picks, a fourth and a sixth to the
Bills for Marcell Darius. He made a big difference for that, right,
I mean he really that coalition.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Can make a mammoth difference. If it eats space and disrupts.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
It can be a big deal.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
So quickly again about Jacoby Myers being acquired. So it's
a fourth and a sixth that's going to last, I
guess in twenty six So we still.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Have eleven thirty five. I think thirty five. They have
two record.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Three, they have a four, they have two fives, they
have a six and three seven, So I think they.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Still have eleven. I think at thirteen hour at eleven
still lot.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Figure out if there's a way to trade all.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
We're gonna have to talk to James and get some
of them sent away. But also we should we should
mention the wide receiver room is so banged up Chacobe
might play a significant factor right out of the gate.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
I would think.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
I think he passed his physical, was doing his physical today,
and I don't say pass.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
I don't know that, but I think he's speaking in
the media today.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
And my guess is they'll have a route package or
or a package where he can play, because with the
way the receivers.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Are banged up, he's gonna need to.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
He's gonna get a lot of extra attention. This week,
I'm talking to Edgar Bennett. By the way, I scheduled
this before I knew that they were gonna make a trade,
so I'm excited to catch up with him and find no, no,
it's just listen. Last week I was supposed to talk
to Edgar, and Travis Hunter got hurt in the practice field,
so we begged off of that because there was no
one knew, so the conversation would have been moved. This week,
(18:58):
I've got him, and they've got an addition, so it
would be fun.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
And of course he worked with Jakobe Myers and last week.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
You're very cool.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Stay with us. We'll tell you what's coming up the
rest of the week.

Speaker 5 (19:32):
Jock gun for Trevor dropping to throw four man rush
looking fires that one deep downfield to the far sideline.
It is caught tackling around the forty nine yard line.
But the clock is gonna turn here. The Jags are
gonna have to get up and try and spike it
eight seconds to play. He was tackling in the field
to play five seconds and Trevor will spike it with
four seconds left in the house.
Speaker 6 (19:52):
Good job right there by the offense getting down the
field lined up to spike it. Now you send your
kicker out for a last second try.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
It'll be a sixty eight yarder. You know he made
the seventy yarder in the preseason.
Speaker 6 (20:05):
We saw him make the one in seventy look in
the last two games, he's missed two field goals and
an extra point. But you talk about getting some confidence back,
you drove this one right here and you got it back.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
So here we go, a sixty eight yarder from the
left hash out of the hole, huff logan, cut logan,
puts it down, Camp Middle kicks it up. The sixty
eight yard field goal is good? No, lois what the.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Hey drilled in from sixty hey yards on the land
player I have?
Speaker 4 (20:42):
How good? Is that?
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Outstanding? And here's the thing, you just got a whole
of entergy as a football team on that sixty eight
yard field.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Goal, the record breaker song of the game tonight.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
You're definitely gonna want to check it out if, of
course it sparked the overtime.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Victory as well.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Yeah, it was a cool moment. And you know, football geek,
here Parker washing and running the ball line awareness with
the official rather than dropping it and going look at me.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
I mean, you know, nice play on his part.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
He's a really good football a really good football player.
By the way.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
A credit to Camelot on a wedding kick. That was cool.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
But listen, that is so far away the angle of
the camera that you had there for that first version
of the kick. It's just it's breathtaking how far it
is sixty eight yards to put it between eight yards
of pipe. I mean, he said, you don't angle it
from that point. You just can't get as hard as
you possibly can and hope that you get it there.
And he more than got it there. I know everybody
(21:45):
keeps thinking we're gonna get over seventy, and this thing's
gonna keep going. But at some point it's gotta stop.
It's so far away.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Seventy might be where the next the next one is
kicked from. We'll keep an eye. We'll get some update
on injuries. We'll be back tomorrow and talk more Texans.
We'll see on JAGXAM on Thursday
