Speaker 1 (00:31):
That's how y'all set this.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Welcome man.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
We're all feeling good today on another victory Monday for
the Jaguars. Here and Kadani Stephens, Frian Text, and John
Osier with me today. A huge win over the Colts
yesterday puts the Jaguars into sole possession of first place
in the AFC South. Let's go over our big things
for you from yesterday's game, brought to you by DAH
Government Employees Health Association Benefits for federal employees and retirees.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Big thing number one is that they're.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
The top cast as mentioned there now leading the division
and they are on a role right now as well.
Liam Cohen talked a little bit about what it means
to see his team perform in these big games.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Our guys, you know, took control of the moment. I
guess you could say in terms of understanding that, yeah,
this was a big game in a lot of ways.
And I think our guys have responded in so many
ways in these big games, right you look at obviously
Kansas City, San Francisco, some of those moments where you know,
(01:29):
I think they ultimately always kind of feel disrespected, and
that's something that continues to feed our team, Brian.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
We sure talked our fair share all week about what
this game was going to look like. But the team
just came out played and dominated.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
Look, I'm not naive. I think if Daniel Jones stays
in the game, it's a much closer game. But the tempo,
the force which the Jaguars were playing on both lines
of scrimmage was incredible. And you know, I wondered about
just how good was the run defense. Was it a
function of some other states sticks that allowed them to
be number one? Well, whether I believed or not, yesterday
(02:04):
they proved John that that is among the very best
run defenses in football. I don't know whether there's still
number one because Jonathan Taylor got seventy two yards. Listen,
they held a guy averaging almost six yards per carry
two three point five and on what I think is
the swing play, which we'll talk about that fourth and
one play, the Jaguars just dominated the line of scrimmage.
(02:26):
So it was a thoroughly convincing performance by a football
team that clearly feels the need to convince people of
how good they are.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
Yeah, if Danny Jans doesn't get hurt, then any games
closer Jonathan Taylor probably has a few more yards, but
I thought it was impressive about that effort. You never
felt like he was getting control of the game, which
is the great Runners can do that.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Look it was.
Speaker 7 (02:53):
It was an incredibly impressive effort start to finish, because
so often in that situation you don't dominate, you play
tight play whatever thought. I thought it was one of
the biggest games in franchise history in December of the
regular season, and I thought it was one of the
best performances in that kind of situation that we've ever
seen around here.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
All Right, big thing number two today is gonna be
confidence is Confidence is key. Yesterday we saw Trevor Lawrence
been letting it rip the past couple of weeks. He
looked very confident yesterday and he talked a little bit
about why he's playing so confident right now.
Speaker 8 (03:26):
Just feel the energy from the team, the confidence. You know,
a lot goes into that, a lot of you know, obviously,
I think with a team, to see it happen in
different situations, like I talked about, the way we've won,
gives you confidence in your team and just you know
you're gonna respond the right way. And that's The one
thing I know I got full faith in with our
team is regardless of what happens, we're gonna respond and
(03:47):
we're gonna have a shot to go win the game.
And that's important because it's just these games never go
exactly how you think they're gonna go. Everybody has a
plan going and everyone feels great about their plan, and
you see a lot of games that don't go well
for certain teams. So it's just how you were fond
at the bad moments or of the misplays or misthrows
or whatever it is.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
Just play the next play.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
John Liamcohen kind of challenged Trevor a couple of weeks ago, said,
just go throw it, don't you know, get so bogged
down with things, And we really seen him kind of
open up. It feels like he's playing a lot freer
than we've seen in a long time.
Speaker 7 (04:17):
Yeah, I'll tell you why he's confident, kay, cause he's
in his mid twenties and can still pull off everything. Great, Jack,
it's fantastic. I would not look as cool in that jacket. Look,
the Trevor Lawrence debate has been going on for four
or five years around here.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
Is he this is he that Uh.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
Brian and I were talking before the show started. If
he had a different name and you watched him in
that game, you would have thought, while this kid's are
the real deal. He played as calmly a, as situationally aware,
as accurate.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (04:54):
I don't care what happened to Daniel Jones. Trevor Lawrence
played big time in that game, huge st in the
last couple of weeks. Brian, maybe it's let it rip,
I mean, but the signs of this kid, the way
he's playing, are as impressive for him as they've been
in maybe two or three years.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Arrow up, as they said.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
Listen, remarkable what he's done since Budabaker intercepted him in
that game in Arizona just two weeks ago. He's talking
about confidence Kai two weeks ago, who had confidence in
a quarterback who had thrown three interceptions and lounched the
ball when being hit from behind, four turnovers. Everyone was
losing their mind, and yet here he is now since
that moment, John five touchdown passes, no turnovers, a quarterback rating.
(05:40):
I didn't factor in the end of that game in Arizona,
but it's got to be over one hundred cumulative. The
last two games in that overtime period. He's playing phenomenal football.
And when we watched him yesterday, and there's a debate
going on right now amongst the national media was listening
to a podcast this morning, was that his best game ever?
Well from their perspective, and they don't watch him every week,
they think so. But from our perspective, John on dis
(06:01):
mentioned we were talking about it, I kind of think
so too. He was in control, never looked flustered whatsoever.
The offensive line did an amazing job. Fourth game this
year without a sack. I don't even know if he
was touched yesterday. Yeah, listen, he and the balls that
he threw, I mean, just just choose the beautiful ones
to be over the shoulders to Brian Thomas Junior. How
about the third down pass going at the end of
(06:23):
the half, going into the south end zone to Tim
Patrick on third down in twelve Let alone the roll
out that he had where he put the ball right
on the spot. He was magnificent yesterday. And here's the
most important thing, John said, arrow up many is trending
at the right time of the season, So forget what's
behind him and look at what we've seen and you can.
(06:43):
You can tell this team has real playoff aspirations because
their quarterback looks like any elite player the last two weeks.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Absolutely, the final big thing today is going to be
self respect were nothing new to us here in Jacksonville.
The national media kind of picking up on things a
little bit late, as they always do, but Liam Cohen
that his team's really been driven by the disrespect they've
seen so far this season and he doesn't expect it
to change anytime soon.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
So that's the beauty of it. I ain't coming.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
You know that it's not and that's the beauty of it.
And that's totally fine, And you know, it's one of
those things that I think the group right now. Houston
was good for us. I do believe that, you know,
the end of Houston was good for us. And to
know that each game is going to be a sixty
minute football game in our mindset, mentality has to be
(07:30):
that way. And when you get into December and you're
going to go play some really difficult games on the
schedule coming up, and everyone counts. Trevor just said it.
Everyone is exactly the same right now moving forward for us,
and very proud of these guys getting the nine wins,
but a lot of work to be done.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
More to do, Brian, we talked a lot about how
this team came out really angry, charged, whatever you want
to call it, in that Chargers game because of the
way the Texans game went. But Niam Cohen says, I
mean this, I mean this motivation probably going to be
there for the rest of the year at least.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
Kui, Jonathan. I just can't imagine Tom Coughlin or Bill
Belichick or Mike Holmgren standing there saying that a loss
just a couple of weeks ago where you blew a
nineteen point lead was good for his team. No coach
in the old school would do that. This guy is
so completely transparent to stand there at the podium and
talk about disrespect. Coaches don't want to talk about that.
It's intangible, it's something they can't control. Coaches like to
(08:27):
talk about things they can control their team. But for
him to sit there and say it yesterday, he poured
fuel on the Duvall fire and got a lot of
people behind him. He is remarkable and I'm enjoying every
minute of his first season.
Speaker 7 (08:40):
Here's the beautiful thing about NFL rankings and respect they
mean nothing.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
This is not college football. It doesn't matter where you rank.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
You're not gonna get left out of the pole because
somebody didn't like you, or.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
The College Football Playoff whatever.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
Okay, they don't respect you, go win, and whether they
respect you or not, you can hold the trophy at
the end of the season and be on a podium
on national TV.
Speaker 6 (09:07):
What's going to be interesting, John, is the respect's coming? Right?
I mean, so if they were able to use the disrespect.
Everyone last week was talking about how the Texans were
the real threat to the division because of their defense,
and you know, the Colts were still there and the
Jaguars seemed third. That's the underlying side of this. Okay,
well not anymore. You're sitting all alone in first place.
Your schedule is more favorable, and you're a game ahead
(09:28):
of the Texans. All you have to do is just
to keep winning. Here comes the respect. Now how to
they handle it?
Speaker 7 (09:34):
But in the social media age, you can find somebody
who doesn't respect you. So Liam will be able to
find somebody, will go on Twitter and find somebody who
doesn't respect the Jaguars, and he'll find it and they'll
believe that it's the nation disrespecting, so they'll be able
to use this guy.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Also, I'm curious if it will come because I feel
like yesterday I saw a lot of the Colts losing
the game and what their season is going to look like,
and the run that the Texans are on. So we
will see what the national landscape looks like. Here on
Jagszam though, we always talked Jags, so stay with us here.
After the break, we're gonna go over our highlights from yesterday's
big win.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Jags fans, you.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Want customized Jaguarts furniture for your home, check out zip
chare dot com to rouse all the customizable options.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Zip Chair is furniture for fans.
Speaker 9 (10:19):
I think the league wise, I think you know, to them,
we're still the Jackson and they're just winning for us
to slip up. But you know, for us, if we
continue to trust our process, trust our grind, and we're
gonna continue to keep peeking, and you know, all the
people that are gonna say that you know, we're not
a good team will sit him in the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Rashian Dollan always think about the Super Bowl looking ahead,
and it was a good one. Yesterday josh An Donald
being playing great, talked to him after the game. I
mean six and half sacks in the last six weeks
really turned it on. I think some of that pressures off.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Now.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
The record's kind of behind him, and the defense as
a hole has been playing great.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
Oh listen, his pressure rate is insane, and he said
in the practice or in the locker room last week
after practice that he's top five in pressures. I mean,
he's just always around the quarterback, and sack only comes
into play if you finish it off. But it doesn't
take into account you make him throw the ball quickly,
he throws off target. There's a lot of things that
josh heinz Allen does that the stats can't capture, and
(11:10):
he's doing a lot of those right now.
Speaker 7 (11:12):
Yet there's a brief stretch against Houston he did not
play that well.
Speaker 5 (11:19):
That's one game. The guys in the NFL have one game.
He's always been much much.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
Better than a lot of observers think because of what
you're talking about. He's always around the quarterback. He's been
around the quarterback most games this year. The difference is
they're rushing better as a front, so he's getting sacks
sometimes when he gets all these pressures.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
High end player always has been in.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Credit where credits do. Liam Cohen kind of challenging the
defense and Josh hens Allen specifically after that Texans game
when they did not play up to par in the
second half, and we've seen a really good response from them,
and we saw it very early on in this game.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
So let's look at the highlights from yesterday.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Devin Lloyd, who had been dealing with some injuries, probably
hasn't looked as good as we've seen from September and October,
but getting an interception really early on, and when we
talk about these like kind of messy condition games, if
you get a turnover early, that can be really helpful
from what I've seen, at least from that, and I
think what was big about that game for me is
just the defense as a whole coming out and immediately
(12:20):
getting the ball back.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
When we know those extra possessions can be so helpful.
Speaker 6 (12:23):
Well, you could just see how the Daniel Jones went
to the sideline almost stunned that something happened that negative
that quickly, and the Jaguars defense came to play yesterday.
Speaker 7 (12:35):
The prowlers must be right Devin Lloyd gets weird interceptions.
I'm not saying that as a negative toward Devin Lloyd.
I think about how many times a season the Kansas
City interception, Yeah, where he sort of sneaks up on
you and the quarterback normally during a play, what they've
seen on film would not indicate that person's going to
(12:57):
be there, and then all of a sudden, the quarterback
throws these monster hands are going to the ball and
catching the quarters Agreed, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (13:03):
You know?
Speaker 5 (13:04):
So yeah, I think that does sort of jolt you.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
If you throw a pick down field where the cornerbapping
gets to play on the ball, you're like, okay, I
expect that Devin Lloyd's are like whoa, you know, all
of a sudden they're there and it look five picks
now for him?
Speaker 6 (13:18):
Yeah, and second most in the NFL, I believe they
blew him out.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
Those ones that are early, those are the ones that
shift games. And Devin Lloyd's done it over and over
again this year.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
And credit to coach Camp who's really kind of given
Devin that ability to play towards the ball, which we
know he struggled last year and has really success succeeded
so far from what we've seen doing that. This year,
offense was kind of the story of the day. So
let's talk a little bit about Brian Thomas Junior. We
talked about wanting to see explosive plays from him. We
saw that early and of.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Course for me, getting him involved is huge.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Then Traves Etn who's also been the offensive MVP in
my mind, set up this first touchdown of the day
for him. But Johnny is it's the first so many
but it's so good to see Brian Thompson. You're getting
involved and kind of giving that offense the game we
haven't seen.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Oh, it's such a boost.
Speaker 7 (14:06):
And it's so weird to think about, right because early
in the season you're thinking he's gonna be the one
and he's gonna be the guy, and then about week ten,
I think a lot of people are like, well, whatever happens, happens,
because we just don't know what you're gonna get. Now,
all of a sudden, because of BTJ, you've got an
element there. There's not really pressure on him be the
(14:26):
one right now, he doesn't have to be the go
to guy on every play, and now all of a sudden,
you've got Tim Patrick, when Parker gets back to Kobe,
Brenton Strange and Brian Thomas Junior.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Do you hate the ball going to any one of
those five guys right now?
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Right now?
Speaker 5 (14:43):
So now, all of a.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
Sudden, they've got five guys they can rely on. Five guys,
you know, at least four of them who can regularly
beat one on one. That's the formula for big time
offense in this league.
Speaker 6 (14:53):
I always having serious nineteen ninety six vibes watching him yesterday.
Jimmy Smith was not even close to being the one
and eight in the season. They cut Andre Risen, and
all of a sudden, here comes Jimmy Smith, you know,
starting a borderline Hall of Fame career, a five time
Pro Bowl wide receiver. At his emergence, guy coincided with
the Jaguars run into the playoffs. And I just got
(15:15):
that feeling watching him yesterday. If he is that guy
right now, that guy who gives them that X factor
that they haven't been able to count on, this is
going to be a really difficult team for the rest
of the age.
Speaker 7 (15:25):
So another very important residual, Brian, I mean to cut
you off now for a four or five weeks teams
didn't have to worry about. Yeah, now you got to
worry about And now that opens up everything else for
the guys who aren't that elite talent. But DC's having
to look at him is gonna matter.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Also, let's look ahead as well to another catch from
Brian Thomas Junior.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Because the thing that's nice about this.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Now is he's the inner room with Jacobe Myers, and
we've talked a ton about what Jakobe.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Brings to the room.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
But Brian with a beautiful catch on the sideline here
probably my favorite play of the day, and then leading
that into later in the drive, Jacoby Meyer's touchdown.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Jacoby.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
I can't think of anybody that's been here in just
such a short amount of time had such an im
media inpactor.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
I was watching Jacoby on the practice field on Wednesday
last week. He caught everything. Brian was struggling on Thursday.
Guests who caught everything? Brian, You are absolutely right. There
is a residual effect. The two of them are playing
off of each other right now, and you can see
Jacoby Myers made it in the National Football League as
an undrafted rookie free agent. He has earned everything he's
gotten and his workmanlike approach to it can't help but
(16:33):
rub off on a superlative talent like Brian Thomas Jr.
It's going to be exciting to watch these two guys
work together the rest of the season.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
The fantastic points, I'll go in another direction. First of all,
don't ignore that throw. Oh gorgeous to Jobe catch either.
Speaker 7 (16:46):
Of them, and in a league that is rapidly becoming
over officiated with.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
DPIs pulled the flag on that too, by the way,
because he was holding his hand on the BTJ play right.
I get how you could.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
Miss it a remarkable catch because BTJ could have assumed
he was going to get a flag there.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
I mean, still made the catch.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
But I thought the throw on this was something that
he Trevor probably doesn't do in Week four.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
The throw, the confidence, the touch, and I Jacobe's.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Given him that and not for lack of ability.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
It's that confidence he now has in his targets to
go get in and kind of haul it in. Let's
talk a little bit about Daniel Jones' injury. Obviously he
was dealing with that leg injury and then now looks
like to be an Achilles injury on the other leg.
And I only bring this up because obviously affected the game.
But they're playing this team again in a couple of weeks,
and now it looks like the Colts are I mean,
they don't even have Anthony richardson right now. They're going
(17:44):
with a rookie. So their season is completely different from.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
What they pictured a month ago, without a doubt.
Speaker 6 (17:49):
And you look at the schedule. They're going to Seattle,
then they host San Francisco, then they get the Draguars again,
and then they go to the Texans. I mean, it's
not hard to you know, connect the dots that their
season could be over. But beyond that, listen, that was
the guy they were going to pay John He was
going to be their franchise quarterback. They went all in
Kai and spent the next two years first round picks
on a cornerback, and now they might not make the playoffs.
(18:12):
That's more than just this season injury. That's the kind
of injury that'll set your franchise back for years.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
And do you sign him at this point because you
don't know what the recovery could be.
Speaker 5 (18:21):
Yep, probably with an achilles injury.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
With a quarterback, you're a little safe for re signing
because he's not head be still in from the pocket.
I don't spend a whole lot of time feeling sorry
for the Colts, but you do have to have empathy
for Daniel Jones. That's a brutal blow for a kid
who's getting his career back together.
Speaker 6 (18:45):
Aaron Rodgers is the most recent example, and of course
he was much older than Daniel Jones. I mean he
was forty when his achilles went out two years ago.
But he got back and out on the field and played.
So but you don't know whether he'll be ready next year, right,
And you don't have first round picks to go and
find a young quarterback the next two years if they
make change, and the coach it's not that attractive a job,
is it.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
I mean there's a lot, there's lots to be considered
the next couple of weeks for them, and in the arm.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
Could have been that could be a day that you
look back and say, man, the Colts, they were high
in the standings and then all of a sudden they disappeared.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Yep, We've been there before.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
So that's not fun for anybody, but something to keep
an eye on for us. And then let's take a
look here at another turnover force to Jonathan Taylor's fumble,
and then Etn kind of had himself a day quietly
as as we've seen from him throughout the year, just
tons of success. But yeah, the defense forcing another turnover
and then Etn getting the ball after that and having success.
(19:37):
It's just the complimentary football.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
John.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
We talk a ton about it, but you know, getting
turnovers and then excuse me, getting points off of them.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Yeah. I was saying last night when I was sort
of writing a few things about this game.
Speaker 7 (19:51):
I don't know where Travis will wind up ranking in
the Pantheonic backs on this team, MJD.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
And Fred have like special places.
Speaker 7 (19:58):
But when his career is over here and where I'm
way early, I hope people realize how fun he is
to watch and what a clever smart back he has
become when he was not that as a rookie. He
has said how much he's had to learn how to
(20:19):
play in the NFL. Many guys come in and not
be able to do that. He's changed the way he plays.
He's a fun guy to watch if you like football.
I'm like smart football. He follows blocks, he sets him up.
He's tougher than his size would indicate. I've really really
enjoyed watching Traves etm run the last few years.
Speaker 6 (20:40):
Well, and listen, he's had a couple of thirteen fourteen
hundred yard multiple ten touchdown seasons already, he's gonna go
over a thousand yards rushing. He's gonna he's already over
eleven hundred yards in total yards and he'll have probably
ten touchdowns. But just think about the big players of
this season. That was one because it opened the game up.
How about the one in San Francisco, they gave the
Jaguars the early lead. It's just made big plays after
(21:01):
big play. I mean, it's not the you know, the
playoff runs yet, but maybe there's a chance for him
to get those this year. He is since the start
of training camp to now, he has not disappointed in
any way.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
It's a contract here for him.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
We always talk about running backs, you know, people feel
like there's a short shelf life. But he's really made
a market for himself because he contributes to in the
past game as well. And I know, whether it's here
or wherever he gets an extension and a further contract,
he's going to have a lot of success going forward.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
If you're running back in this league and you're not.
Your name is not Saquon Barkley or Jonathan Taylor. It
just depends on what you want. If you're willing to
make a deal because you see the situation fits you,
you like the franchise. If you're willing to accept something
more less than the top of the market, then you
might be able to get a deal done. But if
his expectation is to become the highest paid running back
in the league, then that's probably not likely.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
We will see how that turns around. Stay with us
here on jag XAM though. We're going to have some
hot takes for you when we come back after the
breakam Hot takes brought to you today by Firehouse Ups.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
At the end of the day, I feel like no
one likes except for us, you know, and I feel
like it just goes along with just just being this
organization with organization that's been for quite some time now.
So we're not going to get their respect. We kind
of don't even care as long as we know what
we got in the stop the locker room and we
can go out there and take it, you know. I mean,
there's no better feeling than just being disrespected and having
(22:27):
an extra chip on your should to play on the
extra edge. So it just gives the extra motivation going
each and every Sunday. But we kind of know where
it is going, and I've been here. This is my
fifth year now, it's kind of been the same song,
and no one's gonna just pay us to be the
person to win it all. So we got to go
out there and take it. And I love that coach Corn.
It kind of plays into that and he kind of
gives that edge. You know, He's a great motivator, and
(22:48):
I feel like that's why we have to go out
of each and every Sunday and just have that extra edge.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Very cohesive messaging. I feel like everybody's on the same page.
I know we say that a ton, but when you
could feel the energy like they're all moving in the
same direction.
Speaker 6 (23:01):
Right now, you try to qualify a locker room, and
it's tough to describe to people who aren't in it
what it feels like. Last year felt disconnected. That happens
when you're four and thirteen. This year feels like, as
you just mentioned, everybody's kind of got the same message.
They've got the same vibe. A lot of credit goes
to coach Cohen and the staff that he's put together
because the culture, the standard, you use your word, choose it,
(23:24):
it's all right there.
Speaker 7 (23:26):
Well, sometimes that's self fulfilling because winning is better than losing.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Winning, so it's easy, it's easier.
Speaker 7 (23:35):
To keep you on the same page. But credit to
the bunch who take this organization over for setting the
foundation for this to happen. And there's many moving parts
to camaraderie, but somebody's got to set the parts or
give it a foundation and a structure where those parts
can come together.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
And they've done that.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
And the buying from the people that have been here
as well, like we're seeing traves etn or Brian, you've
seen some buy in. I think that kind of goes
with your hot take the body.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
Yeah exactly. I should have titled this and given you
a better headline earning their money. So midweek quick thoughts
after the Houston loss, I wrote that Trevor Lawrence and
Josh heinz Allen were your highest paid players, and they
were your best players and it was time for them
to deliver, and neither one of them did. In the
fourth quarter of that game. But since then, those two
(24:24):
guys have delivered. They have come through with big performances,
big throws, big sacks. The two best players on your team,
the two guys that got the life changing, record setting contracts,
are both playing their best football right now. And it's clear, John,
they are lifting their teammates up, who are rising to
(24:45):
meet their standard. It's incredibly how's the right word fortunate
for the Jaguars at this moment in time, sitting in
first place in the AFC South with four games left
and their destiny in front of them, that their best
players are playing their best football.
Speaker 7 (25:01):
Yeah, it's the right time for it to happen. They're
making teammates better. Your take is better than my take
this morning, So congratulations to your a big winner. You're
like eleven and five now, they're much better every of
the exact wording online.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
But they're much better.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
Than I thought they would be, much quicker than I
thought they would be. I thought from the time this
regime gut here. Once he started talking to Liam and
James and Tony, but he was going to go in
the right direction. I thought maybe it was.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
An eight or nine win team.
Speaker 7 (25:34):
Their ability to change this team on the fly, especially
at the receiver position. Tim Patrick and I Jacoby Myers
were too their best players in the field yesterday. Nobody
was talking around here in June. You know why because
they weren't here. So remarkable job committing to playing they
(25:58):
talked about intangibly rich all off seat. You can sit
there during a season and say, well, we'll be better
next off season. They haven't done that. They made sure
all year that they kept tweaking spots. The secondary, it's
been injured all year, the receiver position, even Cole van
landon the offensive line. They've made sure that they're getting
(26:20):
the best players at that moment in the field, not
the highest draft picks, not the guys who look the
best in the uniform. The foundation here is so solid
moving forward to already be nine and four in that
it's it's what fans have.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
Waited for around here a long time.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
Well, and when you look at it, you try to
figure out the schedule, the record. You look at the
schedule and you look at the roster and you're trying
to figure out who's gonna rise and where they need
to get help. Right, But you you can't factor in
the locker room and you can't factor in how a
team loses a nineteen point lead and then comes back
to next week and just kicks the Chargers ass. I mean,
it's just it's unbelievable some of the things that have happened.
(27:02):
And again that goes back to Baciley, Gladstone and Cohen
and the way that they laid the groundwork, the foundation
for it to happen this year, and then the players
came through and just hit it right down the fairway.
Speaker 5 (27:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (27:12):
And I think one thing, you know, and again I
don't spend a lot of time thinking about what national
media talks about because they never know teams like we did.
But the disrespect thing, it's teams beaten. The Chiefs, the
forty nine Ers, the Panthers, the Colts, the Texans, the Chargers,
all those teams are winning teams. Yeah, this is not
(27:33):
a team that has fluked its way against a fourth
place schedule into being in first place. They're beating good teams.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
That matters.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
John. I think I was with you at the begining
of the season.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
I was like ten and seven probably where I expected
them to be, you know, just not knowing.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Don I think they get to ten?
Speaker 2 (27:48):
But yeah, yeah, that was.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
My optimistic point of view was ten and seven. But
I'm ready to admit I can drinking it feel kool aid.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
I'm all in.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
I think they're gonna win the rest of the way,
and I feel confident about that, mostly because of what
I saw out of Trevor Lawrence. We talked about the
national media saying that was maybe the best game they've
seen from him. I can say in the three years
that I've been here, because I wasn't here for the
twenty twenty two playoff run, that's the most other than
maybe the beginning of the Bengals game, that's the best
game I've seen out of the most complete game I've
seen out of Trevor Lawrence. He was commanding, he was calm,
(28:18):
He was doing crazy rollouts to the backside where I
was like, please don't do that, and then making crazy
plays to Tim Patrick. He had the deep game going.
He ran when he needed to. I now feel confident
in this offense that they can go on the road.
We've seen him go on the road and get tough wins,
like when they went to the forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Before.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
I was very concerned about this Denver game going into it,
I do not think it will be easy. They could
lose that game, but I now feel confident going in
where I won't.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Be surprised if they win.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Before I was like, if I was looking at a schedule,
it's say, oh, Denver in December, no chance. I don't
feel that way anymore so till cool Aid is good
with me.
Speaker 7 (28:53):
Yeah, look, four games left. I'm gonna start looking ahead
because it's so much happens. But you're nine to four,
two and two, three and one are very attamable. This
is a good team as long as it plays how
it's been playing the last month.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
I'm with you. There are people who will not trust
Trevor completely. They will be waiting for him to throw
an interception. And I'm not saying there aren't some of
those ahead. But he is playing at an other worldly
level for him. He has stepped up. If that wasn't
his best game, it's one of his two best games,
and that's a great sign.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
It's where the trust comes in. Trevor proved me right.
Go and get a win in Denver, but first a
win against the Jets. Stay with us here, we'll tell
you what's coming up later on this week. This Sunday's
game against the Jets. Brought to you by Geico. It
feels good to fake O.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
All pre phases dominate, all pre phases straight dominate, guys.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
So proud of you, man. That's a big win, Baby,
that's a big win.
Speaker 8 (30:09):
Shod Man.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
Just talking about being at your best when your best
is required. These are the type of games, These are
the moments.
Speaker 5 (30:17):
These are the moments, and.
Speaker 6 (30:19):
We rose to the occasion.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Every single one of you guys should be so freaking
proud to go.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
Look yourself in the mirror tonight. Love you guys. How
about our freaking quarterback?
Speaker 3 (30:36):
About that quarterback? Got the full buy in there? You
love to see it.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Liam makes me proud of myself. He's got give such
a good speech.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
The connection is there. I mean, it's just if people
want to know about a younger coach. I mean, there
is a connection in that room that you just it's
tough to find. So their respect thing has been coming
up all weeks. I just want to just play. Just
offered this and I can, of course tie everything back
to the ninety six season, but I remember and you
were standing there too, that day that Keenan McCardell announced
to the world? Why not us? I think the Jaguars
(31:06):
were five and seven, maybe six and seven. You're thinking,
you mean, what playoff? See He's like, why can't we
get hot and do something special? Why not us? And
it kind of became the rally and cry. And I
listened to these guys talk about respect. I keep thinking, well,
who's going to step up and say, listen, we've beaten
the Chargers, we've beaten the Colts, we've beaten the Chiefs.
(31:27):
Why can't we? You know, you said Denver was one
that you looked at and you said, well, that's going
to be really tough. It is, but you have confidence
in the quarterback the way he's playing. Why not us?
Why not have that mentality? With four games to play?
And nobody in that locker room has said those words John,
But I do get that feeling when I'm around these
guys that they're kind of thinking, man, we can do
anything we want.
Speaker 9 (31:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (31:47):
If if they can grab hold of the underdog us
against the world thing, more power to him.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
This team started four and one. They've beaten good teams
all year.
Speaker 7 (31:57):
I think what's most impressive about this team is they've
been good for the start, remain good and basically had
a two game hiccup against two great teams in the
Rams and the This is a good team that has
really only lost a good team since Cincinnati.
Speaker 5 (32:09):
So yeah, why not us, I'll tell you why not then?
Speaker 7 (32:13):
Because they're really good, and yeah, they can beat anybody
in the AFC. And I think they're gonna wind up,
you know, with the somewhere in the top three seeds.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Can they catch the top two? They got a shot,
They got a shot.
Speaker 6 (32:27):
I really ask yourself this question, right, I mean, Drake
may is unbeatable. Bo Nix is unbeatable. Justin Herbert's beatable.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Right.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
At one point in this season, he looked like he
was the guy. Daniel Jones was supposed to be an
MVP type candidate when they were seven and one. Anything
can happen for this football team the rest of the way.
If the quarterback continues to play the way that he's
playing and Josh Heines Allen in the defense played like
they did yesterday, this team is capable of making a run.
And here's where it's going to be interesting this week.
(32:55):
Two challenges, they're gonna get respect, it's coming. It's coming
this week. And then you've got the Jets, and everyone's
gonna expect you to pummel the Jets after the Dolphins
just did so. The challenge for the coaches get your
team ready to go, have them ready to play as
if they're playing the Colts again this week.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Not easy to do. It is not.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
We will have a couple of days this week Wednesday
and Thursday to kind of go over preview that Jets matchup.
But today, just enjoy victory Monday. We'll see you later
this week.
