The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Cowboys, This is Media Match, a roundtable of Cowboys insiders,
dropping wisdom and offering sizzling takes on the current state
of your Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Now your host, Newie Scrugs.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Here we are on the media Match.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
It's Tuesday day after the Cowboys go down in a
tough loss thirty four to ten at home. Clarence Hill
of All City Dallas joins me Newie Scruggs right here
at the Star in Frisco on the SWBC podcast studio.
All right, Clarence, this kind of went the way you
thought it would go. You had it twenty eight to ten,
You had Houston winning the game here, so you were
(00:51):
you were.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Right there with your thought process.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Here's a number that I left the game saying, Okay,
this can't happen. It was fifty five fifty five pass
attempts by Cooper Rush. No, no, no, no, no, no no.
There's a lot of law. There was a lot wrong
last night for the Cowboys. But for me, this is
not winning football. This is not Cooper Rush. This is
(01:17):
not what he's supposed to be doing and before he
throws the ball fifty five times, pull him out and
throw Trey Lance in there.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
We got you got your black, We got the Black
Memoir the day.
Speaker 6 (01:28):
You know, it's doom and gloom, you know, seasons over dead,
all of that stuff.
Speaker 7 (01:33):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Seven times degrief, right, you know the last the last,
the last one is acceptance, you know, black acceptance.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
So you know gas.
Speaker 6 (01:42):
You know, I asked Michael about that after the game,
you know, and because you know, it wasn't like the
game it was out of reach. You know, he had
thirty nine past half three quarters. Its only like ten
rushes or whatever it was. And he said the game
plan was to be balanced in the run board.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
That was not the intention. That was not the goal. Well,
the Texas said, we go that trick. We gonna let
Cooper Rush beats, and so.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
They you know, obviously when heavy run looks and then
you know, made Cooper Rush throw the ball.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
You know that was a plan, That's what you know
they did.
Speaker 6 (02:20):
And yeah, but yeah, obviously that's not a style of
play that helps Cooper Rush win football games. When he
was four and one and coming to the season and
five and one, four, two and five and one in
his career as the starting quarterback and plays at DAK
Press because it wasn't because he was throwing the ball
fifty five times. That's not the formula for success with
Cooper Rush is your quarterback, That's that's not what he
(02:43):
does best. And he has some decent moments, but his
accuracy throwing the ball behind guys.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Just not in his wheelhouse. That's not his game.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
No, Houston dropped four picks.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
Yeah, I mean that's what people understand. All he threw
the dude, Houston dropped four picks.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
They got one.
Speaker 6 (02:59):
You know, he dropped four picks, and you keep putting
it back there you get the sack, fumble and everything else.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
It just it was not a game plan.
Speaker 6 (03:07):
And you say, yes, the game went as as I
expected to go.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Well, the cowboy was hung around longer then the other.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
To me.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
You know, it's funny cause I was asking, okay, was
the game closer than the score? I mean it kind
of got away in the fourth quarter with that stupid
Tyler Geydon.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Trying to pick up the ball and run the sack.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Gave up the sack, then then the fumble. Then he
got the fumble, tried to run. Then he was stripped
and then they ran in.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Yeah, the guy who sacked it picked up after he
fumbled it, picked it up and ran it in.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Was just looking like Lt.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
Keystone Cops and everything else going on with the cow
was uh, it was.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
It was a joke, but it was. It was one.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
It was basically a one score game or two. You know,
it was twenty to ten. It was manageable, you know,
and then you get a play and you got whatever.
You know, anything could happened, you know, at the last minute,
but that's when you know, it got away with the Cowboy.
Then the Texas went in and got their cheap touch
down at the end because they just want the rub
it in on the Cowboys and let the fans celebrate
(04:08):
and do whatever. And they got their pound of flesh.
But Texas did not look and I know, I don't
know if this they didn't look impressive to me for
a team that came into the season but hoping to
go deep in the playoffs and young quarterback coach and
building off last year. They made a lot of moves
(04:29):
in the off season going to get digs and and
different things.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
To really go to the next level.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
They don't look like they're ready to go to the
next level, even though it's crazy when they one thirty
one to ten. They blew out the Cowboys, but it
wasn't like Detroit blew them out.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
They wasn't like, you know, it wasn't just they overwhelming.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
You know, here's the comp I gave it to you,
and you tell me if I'm crazy, I said to
somebody's more.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Say, it's like the Atlanta Falcons game.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Cowboys went to Atlanta, Atlanta handled them, and then we
saw Atlanta go face Denver and get torn apart. And
you say, you look at Atlanta.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
Who I think Atlanta's two straight games is to beat
the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yeah, they lost to New Orleans, yeah and so.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
But people had thought a lot of people picked Atlanta
to win their divisions, such as they're picking Houston win
the division. You just kind of look at them and say,
you know, they'll probably make the playoffs, but this is
not a team you're looking for to go to Supernown.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
They did not have a clean game.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
C J.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Stroud, the quarterback, didn't have a great game. But still,
these Cowboys are that bad that you can play a CE.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Game if you're a playoff team, blow them out and
blow them out.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
Yeah, that's what it is. I mean it's Cowboys were
already a mass unit.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
You know, you don't have Dak.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
You got all these guys on who have been on
injury reserve, injured out, A lot of guys were out
for the game.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
And then you lose.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
Jake Fergus in the first quarter, and at the end
of the game, you don't have Tyler Smith, you don't
have Zach Bard, you don't have Tyler Guy. And I
mean the tolls going to take his toll on. I mean,
it just took its toll on them numbers wise, but
they're not a good team otherwise.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
Why are you fake punny in the first quarter.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
First offensive series on your side of the field. We'll
hear from bones Fossil today to see what kind of
look they got that told him let's go do this.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
I want to hear his explanation of it.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
The head coach is going to be give you a
head coach type answer, but I'd like to hear from
bones Fossil. What is it that you saw for the
second week in a row that you wanted to run
this and it did not work and it was not
fourth and four, fourth and three.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Or fourth and nine. It's a lot.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
It's a lot. You want to ask the question, what
are you doing? And this on the heels of Houston
scoring two touchdowns on their opening drive. The first one
called back after the first place, so then they decided
to take the ball still down the field ended up
scoring on a forty five yard touchdown run by Joe Mixon.
It was that kind of night where you just that
kind of first opening series. I mean, have you seen
(06:53):
a series between the offensive plays from Houston to score
two touchdowns and then the Cowboys having theirs and going
for the fake. I just looked at that first time.
I'm like, wow, wow that man. Yeah, it's crazy. It
was crazy, and it was just too easy. It was like, wow,
it's gonna be that kind of night. And I thought
(07:14):
it was gonna be a run away early. I was
trying to write, you know, a runaway at the first quarter.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
It didn't happen to the you know, to the fourth quarter,
but it looked like it's gonna be a run away
early somehow of Cowboys and I think, you know, it's
funny because the Cowboy's been blown out a number of times.
But I'm with Jerry and with Mike. I don't think
they've quit on him. Even though the score has been lopsided.
(07:38):
They have fighting them.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
It's not good. Now.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
You can say that they're not coached well and they
jump off side and they don't execute, but this is
not a team that's laid down. So despite the blowout losses.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
So going back to your time when Uncle Wade was
here and then they got tagged up by Green Bay
on NBC Sunday Night Football. So you're saying it's not
at that level because he firing Wade.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Yeah, And I don't.
Speaker 6 (08:06):
I mean, I think that was the media thing. I
don't really think they quit. They were a bad football
team and Tony.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Romo was out.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
There was a lot of things that were going on,
and Jerry would tell you know, he regrets firing Wade.
I think the way just you know, there was Wade
never got cred. I mean, he won a playoff game
and there were people who were just he replaced Bill,
and he was because he was the opposite the Bill.
Even when he won went thirteen to three and they lost,
people were making fun of Wade and laughing away.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
You know.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
Then the next year they go and win a playoff game.
Oh no, Tony the next year injuries, and then the
following year they won a playoff game.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
It still wasn't good enough. It was still this.
Speaker 6 (08:44):
Sure, this this narrative about who Wade was. Then the
following year when they start back because of Tony's irt,
now we quit on Wade. I mean, so I never
put stock until they quit on Wade, and so we
had the fire. Jared succumbed to the media pressure that
was never on Wade's side and his wanting to elevate.
(09:10):
Thank you, Jason Garrett. It was always there, just Garrett,
thank you before he even higher. Way Wait, yes, you know,
so that was a lot of things were work right.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
The bubble it up to the surface, and yes, yes
there were there was people actively in the organization who
were Jason Garrett fans right, who is the way he
did something wrong? Way got lit up for it, and
so yes, I get it one hundred percent. And the
Cowboys ended up going on a winning streak after they
named Jason the interim head coach and then eventually named
(09:41):
him the head coach, and then they had ten years
of basic mediocret. Somebody emailed me last night during the game.
Fire McCarthy now, and I said, replace him with who
do you? And I said you do? He said Zimmer
or shot and iron I said, do you realize that
this is not this is still the same players are
(10:04):
going out here? Okay, the same players are going out
here looking with the Jets. Yesterday fire their general manager
Joe Douglas, and they fired the head coach, Robert Tolliver.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Some of this.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Sometimes sometimes you just gotta admit this is a this
is a bad bachelor Stu.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
He made a bad bachelor student.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Man, it's bad.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
That's one thing. When people say fire the coach, I
mean for who? Who you gonna give it to?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I mean, Zimmer's got enough with the deal.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
All these coaches on.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
One year deals, I mean they're not listening to Mike.
They're not listening to them either, you know. And there's
not a new voice or whatever else. All these coaches
on one year deals. Uh, who you gonna fire them for?
You know, who are you gonna elevate? There's no got
to elevate. There's no Jason Garrett waiting in the wings.
You know, Brian shot not but he's off of his court.
But Mike is calling the players. There's nothing Brian is
(10:49):
doing that says, hey, get that guy shot.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Brian.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Brian and Mike have worked together forever, so it's not
like Brian's gonna come here with a whole new bunch
of eye is and scheme up a whole bunch of
new things. It's basically going to be more of the same.
And at this point time you just finished the year. Really,
I mean, people are looking for some magic elixa right
now to come within the coaching staff that's going to
fix this same it's not there because the players. You've
(11:16):
got issues with the players. We don't know on Sunday
who's actually going to play on the offensive line. You know,
the five guys are going to be out there.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
Yeah, I think I think Tyler Smith will play because
he always plays. I don't know if Zach Martin will
players should play, and I don't really know what's going
on with Tyler Guyden correct. So yeah, and you know,
and you know again, in three or four weeks, you know,
you might do it just to get ahead of the
(11:45):
cycle of coaches so you can start the process of
looking for another head coach. But at this point, no,
you're not doing it with seven games left to see.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
So just stay on the offensive line.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Here where the myriad of issues we have and we're
talking about it on the players line last time. How
do you start to view Terrence Steele now? Because he
was bad again, He's been had a bad year. Wasn't
could last year? And you know in today's NFL they
start coming around to do one or two things, either
(12:17):
asking you to take a pay cut or they're telling
you to go away. But based on what you've seen
here in the way they operate, what do you think.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Is the next move that's going to be going forward
for Steel?
Speaker 6 (12:28):
I mean, I think he could be a prime candidate
for that Michael Gallup deal. You know till you're you know,
you're your contract. You know you're a sour cap catcher,
save some money, you know. Again, and this is.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
The problem the Cowboys of a lot of holes to
film offseason. I mean, say you cut him and you move.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Tyler gad in the right tackleway played in college, you
still got to find a left tackle and what was
Zach Martin most likely you still got to find left
I mean right guard. You know you need defa of
the tackles. You know, oss a free agent Demark Lawrence
is a free agent.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
You know, you need safety. To me. You know, you
got a lot of solds of receiver, running back.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
I mean, you got a lot of holes to field,
you know, and you would hoping that.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
The right tackle wouldn't have been one of them.
Speaker 6 (13:26):
Two years into his deal, you know, he gets the
new deal, and you wouldn't think the right tack would
be one of them.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
But that's the way he's playing. That's the way it is.
But I never was that impressed from the beginning.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
You know, he was solid, you know for a guy
who was undrafted free agent, but it wasn't like he
was a difference maker that you had to really sign
to this extension.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
To make sure he didn't leave. But that was a
decision they made.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
So I'm just based off what I saw yesterday. I
think you had to start to ask yourself about that
whole right that right tackle situation. And then Tyler Goyton
had another had a tough game and season, yeah, tough season, yes,
And so I know they preach patients with guys. After
(14:13):
one year, he had a murderer's row of guys to
try to face this year on that first place schedule,
and It makes me ask the question do you put
him back? It right, because coming out of Oklahoma, that's
where he was. I don't know if Austin Richards is
ready to be your left tackle or whether you decide
to put Tyler Smith out there. But just when I
(14:33):
look at twenty twenty five, I think it'd be hard
to bring Terren Steel back making the same money based
on what he did this year and last year.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
Yeah, I mean it's again, lots of moving parts, lots
of decisions were made. What coaches can make, decision with
office you're gonna be running, you know, what are you
gonna be teaching?
Speaker 5 (14:51):
What office line coach are gonna have?
Speaker 6 (14:52):
I mean, there are a lot of things out there,
decisions to be made with the staff before you decide
on the play.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
There, so to speak.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
And then that's gonna have to be made in a
hurry before you know, you know, when the season is over.
But yeah, those are all good points. Again, you know,
we'll learn a lot of the next seven weeks, certainly
about Austin Richards and maybe some other guys that they
get some playing times and and see what they have.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
You know that.
Speaker 6 (15:20):
But but again you could the number position I mean,
there's a thought process that you can go get a
center and move Cooper be with the guard, which was
he was best at it.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
He was an All American guard.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Yeah, he was a better college player than Tyler Guy.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
And I would dare say you could say he was.
I was a unanimous or even two timing he was.
He was year Yes, so he was an outstanding guard.
Now this is where I didn't dive all into the
draft mix stuff the arms long enough at guard, the
league and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
But if he could, if and I would operate.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
And that's why I said in the last show podcast
I did here for Dallas Cowboy, I would and I
would plan as those Zach partner it's not going to
be here, that would be my plan in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
He's not gonna be here. You don't know, You're not
really You're really not going out on the limbit.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
He's Magic Johnson'll be here. I mean he doesn't have
a contract. They got a lot of dead money from
his the last time.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
He held him. He held out as you got money.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
As you did with Jerry. I just tried to do
with tenderness.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
It's not I'm just saying it's not a tender.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
It's not a it's not a tender thing.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I mean, you are most trusted.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
It's not a tender thing. Is this?
Speaker 6 (16:43):
I mean he's that, I mean his contracts up. He's
openly talked about this man a year to year thing.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
You know.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
You know he threatened, you know, not to play two
years ago, and you know what if you didn't get raised.
He's injured, banged up. I don't know if he'll go
this week there you know, my boy, Todd, aren't you
with that wondering if you know, if we may have
seen the last time. I don't think that's the case,
because it's you know, when you these are precious times
and when you played this long, you kind of want
(17:11):
to be on the field. If you're not going to
play again, you don't really want to end it like this.
And I think he's gonna soldier on through the end
of the season, but there's some talk about it.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
If he's too injured, you know, when do you sit
him down? Period? All right?
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Speaking of sitting people down and under and wondering what
their future is, I want to ask you about this
player next based off what I saw last night with
this playing time. He is claimed Hill all city doubts
in the stress. This is a media national Das Cowboys dock.

I knew he scruggs. He is Clartell of All City
Dallas dot Com. All right, chill looking at the running
back numbers yesterday.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
Rico Daddle ten carries twenty eight yards, Douce fun for
carries thirteen yards, one carry for CD Lamb, two carries
for Cooper Rush, one carry for.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Eight yards for Ezekiel Elliott.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
What a carry was it was? During the game? I
was noticing.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
Okay, you know, obviously we Mike McCarthy declared last week,
We talked last week that that Rico was gonna be
the primary back, the lead back, got to get more opportunities.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
I gotta give him the ball. He needs touches, He
needs the ball. He didn't get a.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
Lot of touches, but he was the leed back. He
was out there for most of the game. And then
Zeke kind of got some opportunities. There's a third down
back because Hunter Luke was out, you know, and he
was the third down back. I would say the blocking
back helped protect the quarterback. And then when they needed
running back to replace, here's our great play and running
(20:59):
back to place.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Some people you're talking about your watch where the NFL
network is on there airing last night's Cowboys game and
This is where Tyler Goyton gives up the sack to Barnett,
who strips Cooper Rush. Tyler Guyton all of a sudden
has the ball. He's trying to take a couple of
steps to run it, gets stripped. Barnett picks it up,
scoops and scores to make it twenty seven to ten
(21:21):
Houston with twelve thirty one in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 6 (21:25):
It was it was a game that was matters before
the Cowboys, and the Cowboy defense was playing pretty good.
You can take all the turnovers, all the other stuff.
They just didn't get any help from the offense. But
what was I talking about? Yes, and so when the Cowboys,
it just just just just this comical here.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
You know, you're watching the we're watching the replace now
how Tyler got ball gets in their Tyler got it.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
Give it that boss, give its.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Robbie.
Speaker 6 (21:58):
I'm sorry it's crazy, but but yeah, it was. You know,
sac of I saw Zeke's mom and his grandma before
the game, tweeting, you know, pictures off them being at
the game and just to see her son come out
there and really not get a carry. You know, Deuce
Vaughan is getting carries as a number two running back,
(22:19):
and you know, and before Zeke, you know, gets the
carry anything late in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
I mean, it's just.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
We're after ten games. This is where we're at.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
And I said this last week, at some point in time,
you need to do a service for the next group
of folks to figure out who should be playing. Put
some tape out there for the next for the next
coaching staff, because this coaching staff is all on one
year deals and right now they're they're not doing anything
that tells you that they're going to be extended at all.
(22:51):
So put some stuff out there. But we talked about
Zach Martin not being here next year.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Zeke will not be.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Here next I mean that it's more thirty guys on
one year.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Deals, right, But that's that's another thing about cut cut
thank you in this time, we'll mean it.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Thank you, Ezekiel Elliott.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
But that then last night to me just showed it that, okay,
and if you're going to be a team now that's
three and seven.
Speaker 6 (23:16):
I think that was the sadd well before last night.
I'm sure maybe your eyes were opened last night, but
the mind has been open. You know, when he was
left behind in Atlanta, you know, just you know, go back.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Yeah, his his father accepted it.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
You had him on Cowboys and Chill a couple of
weeks ago and he was of a different mindset.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Different mindset, bet ten thousand dollars and he still got it. Hey,
that's that's why you love family. Okay, they're gonna have
you back to the end. He should have you back
to the end.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Say the seventh of the final stage of grief seven
times is acceptance. You feel like there's acceptance now that
this is a bad football teams three and seventeen, that
you are what your record says you are.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
There's no more.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Hey, well we got NFC East games to go. We
can do this, even though they're going to Washington sunny.
Hey man, this thing is done.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
Yeah, I think acceptance because even last week Jerry and
Mike was talking about the opportunity out of adversity and
to do something special, and Jerry was still talking about
fantasy innings and fairy tale indings and all stuff.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
Last night.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
They admitted obvious they're a bad football team. They are
bad players, they're poorly coached. They do what bad teams do,
and there's no coming out of this. You know our
bible card. We just want to win the game.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
You know, ain't nobody trying to prove.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
Something to nobody and and have a miracle finish. We
didn't need to win, We need to get out this
snot we need to you know, get our win. And
you know, Jerry, you know, resigned himselves to you know,
we should be more competitive than this. And you know,
he was on the radio day and I wrote today
that I think he finally put McCarthy on notes, not
(25:09):
that he already hadn't been on notice because on a
one year deal, but he basically said on his radio
show today on one on five period of five the
Flaxual station, that you know, the staff will be held
accountable to the results of this season. And he said
this is a legal parody and that's what makes the
(25:31):
NFL so great. Sure, and you should have a fifty
to fifty chance of winning.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
You should not be non competitive.
Speaker 6 (25:38):
And he expected them to be more competitive than they
were last night.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
And he said that.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
He said, you know, it's funny because he brought up
we got draft picks and you got waiver where our
pickups and the way you build teams in this system, you.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
Should be competitive. He didn't say free agency. He said
waiver our pickups.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
He didn't accept or on up to the fact that
they put it in for ragency.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
But.
Speaker 6 (26:07):
He basically said that this team should be better than
this and the coaches will be judged on this team's
performance injuries aside.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
So the Cowboys three and some football team right now, Okay,
this is where they're at the league.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
When you start looking at these teams three win teams.
The Jets are a three win team. They're three and eight.
New England's a three win team. They're three and eight.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
Yeah, I mean Carolina, they have the ninth pick right now.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
I think this is a three.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
Three, three win team. This is where you're at, and
you're just one off. The Bears are a four win team,
so you're one off the Bears. But then when you
start looking at the bottom of the basement, you know
Cleveland who you beat this year? Two win team, Jacksonville
two win team, Las Vegas two win team. The Giants
are a two win team and you'll see them on Thanksgiving. David,
this is where you're sitting at as a franchise. I'm
(27:05):
gonna take a break because we're gonna end little early
take aus. Mike McCarthy's coming up within the hour. Here,
within this hour, your first story for all City Dallas.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
Thirty four to ten, the Houston Texans defeated the Dallas Cowboys.
Jerryworld at Cowboys are winless at home this season. The
next opportunity for win will be Thanksgiving Day against the
New York Football Giants. They had bitch Daniel Jones there,
so yeah, we'll see what happens, all right, Clarence Hill,
you love to start Telegram and went on over to
(30:09):
All City Dallas, and for your first story you came
out in the gates with Gerald Wayne Jones, who told
you he felt like he was the best person to
be the GM here. Right, nobody could do it better
(30:30):
than him.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Right, what was in the league? Best gym in the league.
Nobody could do it better than him?
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Three and seven season.
Speaker 6 (30:41):
By last season when people said gim of the year,
you know, bringing in I mean bringing in uh Cooks
and bringing in the other cornerback, making some moves and.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
That resulted in a division championship, championship and nothing else,
nothing else, I mean, and so he was all in.
He was all in this year, told you he was
all in this year. So when do you, as a
reporter follow up with that one to ask? Okay, it's
what you told me in September. How are we feeling now?
Speaker 6 (31:23):
I think he and Steven have taken ownership of how
they built this team.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
To a certain extent.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
You know, but like I said Jersey at today, that
this system is built for you, at least have some parody.
He is blaming the coaches for three and seven. He's
not blaming how he built the team for three and seven.
He was blaming the coaches and injuries and everything else.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
For three except fair.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
When you own the team doesn't matter. This is about
being a fair I mean, he'll tell you what fair
and fire away he did it. He regrets it. He
tells you it wasn't he was unfair and fine chang
gate it. He regrets it after the fact. I'm sure
one day he'll regret after the fact, how he handled
(32:13):
this season. You know, I'm sure one day he'll regret.
He put curtain on the stadium he dug in on
it right now. But again, this team should not be
three and seven.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
What should they be?
Speaker 6 (32:35):
They were never gonna be twelve and five from a
year ago because they didn't improve this team and everybody
else got better and you did nothing to get better.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
But should this team be three and seven?
Speaker 6 (32:46):
I mean, it's turned out the season, even the worst
predictions didn't see this team being one of the worst
team league. You could say that they weren't gonna take
that next step, and it was other gonna cast Mike
mccarthur's job because they weren't gonna get it done in
the playoffs. But most people had the Cowboys these getting
(33:07):
to the playoffs or continuing for a playoffs spot.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
Of the seven losses they have, what are the losses?
You say, you know what, should have won that one?
Like your Chicago Bear fan, Hey we should have won
in Washington, we should have beat Green Bay. I mean,
do you tell me a loss that the Cowboys had
this year? You say, hey, you should have won that one.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
No, they're none, they're none at all.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Beat pretty sound. When they've been beating, they've been beating proudly.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
It's you know, and you know the one closed loss
against Baltimore. The game was out of reaching. The Cowboy
made it close at the end, you know. Uh, and
then they couldn't get a stop. But yeah, they they've
been thoroughly defeated in all of those games. And this
is not you know, well, one player them here or
there would have made a difference. And if you're Pittsburgh
could kicking themselves thinking whatever we get the Cowboys getting
(33:51):
we beat them.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
You know, they came back and beat Pittsburgh. That was
most impressive winter the season. Uh.
Speaker 6 (33:58):
But yeah, I mean, you're right, But but at the
end of the day, I'm just saying that no one
saw that coming and and you and certainly with the
players they had, and it just it was just a
bad environment from the beginning when you have all the
coaches on one year deals and you wait till the
end to sign DK and CD, and you wait to
(34:20):
the end to add players to the defensive line.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
So stay on that what you're saying, that's when I
go back to the gym, how you look like, yes,
and you can blame your coaches for that, but you
start thinking about, Okay, what's your.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Part in this? And that's that's but you're saying okay.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
But when they're never changing the gym, and and and
and people have been saying that he want admit it.
Speaker 5 (34:43):
I mean it's been a soft rebuild.
Speaker 6 (34:45):
I mean I think that they have looked at this
team and looked at what they have coming and the
Sarah cap Hen say out to take next year for
de Marcus Lawrence and Zach Martin and the money they
have to pay for DK and CD and the have
to pay for Michael Parsons.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
Maybe they put it on the season just didn't want
to admit it.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
And I say wow from that standpoint of that's that's
It's another way to put it.
Speaker 6 (35:17):
I've reached the exit. I mean, I mean, no one
expected it to be this bad. But they didn't go
all in because they couldn't find out.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
I mean, they did nothing in Rayday.
Speaker 6 (35:26):
You know, if we've talked before, and I think that
Stephen Jones made more news arc.
Speaker 5 (35:31):
I mean you you you.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
Generally field needs in free agency so you can draft
pure in the draft, so you can be pure in
the draft, take the best player available. Copbo didn't feel
needs in Craigency. They tried to feel needs in the
draft and get with young guys.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
That was a choice.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
So which decisions do you look at now saying should
have done should have done something different?
Speaker 5 (35:58):
There? Well, I mean.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
Derek here, Derek Henry, we still talking about Derreck Henry.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
You know these are I mean, once again, these are
legitimate points. Just like you go back because you're ten
games in and you've seen it hasn't worked. So now
you can kind of go back and just say, Okay, well.
Speaker 6 (36:12):
I mean the biggest the biggest problem is upfront. I mean,
choosing to start two rookies not fix the most important
positions on the off Yeah, your churches have been killed.
You not not the choose to start two rookies. Not
fixing uh, your defensive line, your defensive tackle position. I
mean the loss of Darn Bland hurt because you really
(36:34):
thought you had two solid corners and that was an
injury issue. But not addressing the lines, and that's been
the bugger boo for this on both sides.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
Lines. Yes, that has been the problem.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
That's one things I talked said. You can't stop the run,
you can't run the ball. And what have we seen
in the playoffs the last three years of the Cowboys
that woul get put out the blueprint was there, Hey, man,
run on these guys and they can't stop you.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
Yeah, I mean that was the soft process.
Speaker 6 (37:01):
Because Zimmer coming in would make a difference with the
disciplinarian styles.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
I never thought that because he had the horses up front.
Zimmer one with big people.
Speaker 6 (37:07):
Yeah, he won big people and and and and it
takes a while to to to improve even with the
best coordinators. And and I don't know if he has
to bite and he don't have the same bark and
bite he had to pass.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Can you have the same bark and bite when you
know you don't have what you know you.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
Yeah, I mean all of that.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
I mean, when you talk about the scheme and the
fundamentals and be more disciplined, there's still the most penalized,
one of the most penalized team in the league.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Do you think McCarthy's accepted it.
Speaker 5 (37:44):
He knows.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
I mean, he's he knows, he he he knows, you know.
And that's why he talked last night, we just need
the damn win. I just want to win the game.
I mean, I'm gonna I'm gonna try to win. I'm
not trying to evaluate young guys and just throw trade
lands out there, just evaluate him.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
We're gonna do everything we can to win the game.
He wanted. He does not want to end with this
type of sour taste his mouth.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
So Bone's Fossil calls a fake punt. We're gonna talk
to him later on.
Speaker 6 (38:21):
In a few minutes, talked about McCarthy first, McCarthy first,
then Zimmer.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
And then I want to hear from Fossil. I want
to I want to hear his thought process for the
second week in roll.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Why to go with fake? But I want to hear that. Washington.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
That's what that's next, Washington, dan Quinn with a bunch
of former Cowboy players.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
They'll be licking their chops to team.
Speaker 6 (38:44):
It's gonna be trying to you know, the city said
the city said it last night. These teams are trying
to embarrass us. The Washington fan base will try to
embarrass the boys.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
Yes, yes, I mean this is this is Dallas week
up there. They called Dallas Week. I'm sure you got
phone calls already. I've gotten calls already. Hey, can we
get you on this week?
Speaker 3 (39:02):
Yeah? It's it's uh, it's it's it's it's about to
get rough here.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
And this is a tough stretch for the Cowboys. You
gotta go this short week because it's Tuesday. You played
last night, you got to go up here to face h. Washington.
On Sundays you're going up to Maryland FedExField to go
do that. Then Thursday you got the Giants. Giants are
making a quarterback change, so they're looking for a spark and.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
You know it would make their They need to win.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
You know, Giants are looking for a win too, So
you can have two teams on Thanksgiving Day looking for
for a w. So yeah, players are off today, get
back at it tomorrow. All right, let's go listen to
Mike McCarthy right now, man claim till I'll see dabts
on new Scrutch. This is the media mash thanks to
Chris Beam and everybody else said we can happen right
here on Das Cowboys dot Com.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
