over Mike McCarthy earlier years, talking about.

I mean, and and you know you're gonna at this
point in his career, everybody believes this is last year.

You know, Michael Parson believes that.

Talking to Cede Lamb, he thinks that that could be
the case. I talked to them, Marcus Lawrence, he believes
that could be the case. And Dalvin's cook is no
longer in the locker room, but he dirty dirty. But
they all believe this could be his last year, understandably

so and so yeah, So it was Yeah, he's having
season and surgery and certainly, and he was there, but
Zach didn't want to talk about it. It's not the
time to talk about it. But just because he had surgery,
it's about getting healthy. Yes, you want to get help,
you have ankle surtery. It's about the rest of your life.

And he wants to get his ankle healed. You don't
want to deal with an ankle injury. He's certainly not
at forty, not at fifty that because that thing. You
want to get that thing fixed, you know, so you
can have fun with your kids. But as far as
playing football again, I believe this is it.

I don't think he's coming back. I mean, he's he
was not an All Pro, he was not a Pro
Bowl this year. He's a good player this year, but
he's used to being a great player, and so I
think it's hard for guys who's been great to then
be even good, let alone the levely played it and
I mean he was getting treated like like regular average
dudes this year.

And it was because of the ankle.

I mean, he admitted and he talked about that, but
the ankle really limited him and he couldn't be the
player he used to.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Be, couldn't anchor be athletic anymore. And the thing that
surprised me about it was he talked about this was
all part of his problems he's been having since training camp,
that this has been going on for that long. But
he was able to make it this point, to this
point help a couple of young offensive linemen be more

prepared for the time when he was no longer available.
But he said he went into this week thinking these
two weeks will help me get over this and I'll
be able to play on Monday night. And did he
say it was Monday or Tuesday? Monday Monday, went out
and worked on the field with Britt Brown, and Britt
basically told him, Hey, I think this is a bad idea.

I think you should have surgery now and call it
quits for the season. He talked to the coaches last
night or yesterday, and neither he nor McCarthy addressed the
retirement issue. Like you said, Zach's concentration at this point
is on just regaining his health. But he has previously
talked about approaching this as it being as final season,

and he said nothing to the contrary in all of
the time since, including today.

Now you know, that's why Brett Brown is one of
the best rehab guys in the business, because he could
look at that and be like, Nah, it ain't gonna
work and.

It's not gonna get it any better anytime soon. So
it's interesting. And last year we had Jesse hoighlay on
and Jesse said, as a player, said were the.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
Last you know, oh, we can look at several players
on this at least one other player on this team
though they did lasted.
Speaker 8 (07:25):
Well, that that's that's the decline played their movie injured
though no decline and players decline and play.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
But he might but in this case, he might have
thought that the reason for his decline and pay, or
at least how exaggerated it is, is because he's physically
not healthy.

Yeah, I bet that's I mean, I think he's normal
to say that is part of the reason.

The amazing thing too, was that Ceedee Lamb didn't know
anything about this until he was asked the first question
in the hallway outside the locker room after practice, and
then he you know, he spent his ten minutes with us,
and then he went inside and immediately went over to
Zach Martin rugged him at his locker and.

He talked about what Zach mettim, which is either you know,
you don't.

Really have sales, don't hang out with hippop No.

He talked about how Zach has been a huge party.
He already talks to him daily, how it's been a
big important part of his development as a football player.

And this happens on every team. It's amazing to people
that hang around that we don't know that hang around,
you know what I mean, Like he wouldn't think that
they hang around and talk like they do. But it's
like that on every team where you find people that
you wouldn't think hang around and talk all the time, right,
and yet they do.

Like I have never been surprised that Calvin and Clarence
hang out. I wasn't all surprised to turn on my
TV last Sunday and see the two of them sitting
there together.

And on that TV show he made a comment about
let's keep Zach, let's keep rock Hoffman in over Zach.

Martin, who said that Calvin, Oh, I know what you're
referring to now, I was ahead of my time on.

And my point and and and you know.

Well tell people what you're talking about, because they don't, yes,
they don't. Necessarily, I don't want There.

Are a lot of people even before now who thought
that Zach Martins to just shut it down and let's
go with brock Hoffon, you know, because he's younger and
he brings the energy.

And my point, it's something to deal on.

Always says, you know, the game don't love you back, okay,
And you can love the game. The game love you,
you know, And these are precious moments. And I know
if Zach could play, he would want to play. He
would want to go out on the field. I don't
care what the record is, whatever else. You know, this
surgery is certainly taking something away from him, and and
and and and and forced him to make a decision.

But he would want to play on the field. But
the conversation was about, you know, the.

Way you mocked me. I did not mike in front
of our peers in the interview room. After I asked
McCarthy very delicately, what do you lose if you're bringing
no I said something about considering how well he's that
Hoffman has played and the difference he's made. Where do

you you know, what what do you gain when Zach
Martin come back? And he said a couple of things
about Brack Hoffman, and then he said, Zach Martin's a
hell of a player, you know. And then a few
minutes later we're in the interview room and Clarence turns
around and says something about me asking me asking, telling
McCarthy that I thought Zach Martin should lose his show.

He's been the questions are for a loan, he really
first of all.

First of all, first of all, you get it's worthwhile
to have the coach on the record on somebody. He
wasn't on the record.

But we know how he feels about it, so we
knew Okay, when Zach Martin is healthy, he will be
playing ahead of Brack Hoffman. For those who question that,
I can answer that question, listen, But thank you for
your concern.

depending on who the class is, when he comes up,
he should, he should, but his resume will say he should,
but they didn't win nothing while he was here, and
so you know, there may be somebody else who rolls
through who has won some rings.

it more difficult. But I agree that he'll get in

I mean, and and you know you're gonna at this
point in his career, everybody believes this is last year.

You know, Michael Parson believes that.

Talking to Cede Lamb, he thinks that that could be
the case. I talked to them, Marcus Lawrence, he believes
that could be the case. And Dalvin's cook is no
longer in the locker room, but he dirty dirty. But
they all believe this could be his last year, understandably

so and so yeah, So it was Yeah, he's having
season and surgery and certainly, and he was there, but
Zach didn't want to talk about it. It's not the
time to talk about it. But just because he had surgery,
it's about getting healthy. Yes, you want to get help,
you have ankle surtery. It's about the rest of your life.

And he wants to get his ankle healed. You don't
want to deal with an ankle injury. He's certainly not
at forty, not at fifty that because that thing. You
want to get that thing fixed, you know, so you
can have fun with your kids. But as far as
playing football again, I believe this is it.

I don't think he's coming back. I mean, he's he
was not an All Pro, he was not a Pro
Bowl this year. He's a good player this year, but
he's used to being a great player, and so I
think it's hard for guys who's been great to then
be even good, let alone the levely played it and
I mean he was getting treated like like regular average
dudes this year.

And it was because of the ankle.
Speaker 8 (05:52):
I mean, he admitted and he talked about that, but
the ankle really limited him and he couldn't be the
player he used to.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Be, couldn't anchor be athletic anymore. And the thing that
surprised me about it was he talked about this was
all part of his problems he's been having since training camp,
that this has been going on for that long. But
he was able to make it this point, to this
point help a couple of young offensive linemen be more
(06:18):
prepared for the time when he was no longer available.
But he said he went into this week thinking these
two weeks will help me get over this and I'll
be able to play on Monday night. And did he
say it was Monday or Tuesday? Monday Monday, went out
and worked on the field with Britt Brown, and Britt
basically told him, Hey, I think this is a bad idea.
(06:39):
I think you should have surgery now and call it
quits for the season. He talked to the coaches last
night or yesterday, and neither he nor McCarthy addressed the
retirement issue. Like you said, Zach's concentration at this point
is on just regaining his health. But he has previously
talked about approaching this as it being as final season,

and he said nothing to the contrary in all of
the time since, including today.
Speaker 6 (07:05):
Now you know, that's why Brett Brown is one of
the best rehab guys in the business, because he could
look at that and be like, Nah, it ain't gonna
work and.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
It's not gonna get it any better anytime soon. So
it's interesting. And last year we had Jesse hoighlay on
and Jesse said, as a player, said were the.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
Last you know, oh, we can look at several players
on this at least one other player on this team
though they did lasted.
Speaker 8 (07:25):
Well, that that's that's the decline played their movie injured
though no decline and players decline and play.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
But he might but in this case, he might have
thought that the reason for his decline and pay, or
at least how exaggerated it is, is because he's physically
not healthy.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Yeah, I bet that's I mean, I think he's normal
to say that is part of the reason.

The amazing thing too, was that Ceedee Lamb didn't know
anything about this until he was asked the first question
in the hallway outside the locker room after practice, and
then he you know, he spent his ten minutes with us,
and then he went inside and immediately went over to
Zach Martin rugged him at his locker and.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
He talked about what Zach mettim, which is either you know,
you don't.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
Really have sales, don't hang out with hippop No.

He talked about how Zach has been a huge party.
He already talks to him daily, how it's been a
big important part of his development as a football player.

Yeah, talk to him every day, which is crazy, just
about how to.

Be a proa, how to handle situations and get shell

And this happens on every team. It's amazing to people
that hang around that we don't know that hang around,
you know what I mean, Like he wouldn't think that

Like I have never been surprised that Calvin and Clarence
hang out. I wasn't all surprised to turn on my
TV last Sunday and see the two of them sitting
there together.

And on that TV show he made a comment about
let's keep Zach, let's keep rock Hoffman in over Zach.

Martin, who said that Calvin, Oh, I know what you're
referring to now, I was ahead of my time on.

go with brock Hoffon, you know, because he's younger and
he brings the energy.

And my point, it's something to deal on.

Always says, you know, the game don't love you back, okay,
And you can love the game. The game love you,
you know, And these are precious moments. And I know
if Zach could play, he would want to play. He
would want to go out on the field. I don't
care what the record is, whatever else. You know, this
surgery is certainly taking something away from him, and and
and and and and forced him to make a decision.

But he would want to play on the field. But
the conversation was about, you know, the.

Way you mocked me. I did not mike in front
of our peers in the interview room. After I asked
McCarthy very delicately, what do you lose if you're bringing
no I said something about considering how well he's that
Hoffman has played and the difference he's made. Where do

you you know, what what do you gain when Zach
Martin come back? And he said a couple of things
about Brack Hoffman, and then he said, Zach Martin's a
hell of a player, you know. And then a few
minutes later we're in the interview room and Clarence turns
around and says something about me asking me asking, telling
McCarthy that I thought Zach Martin should lose his show.

He's been the questions are for a loan, he really
first of all.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
First of all, first of all, you get it's worthwhile
to have the coach on the record on somebody. He
wasn't on the record.

But we know how he feels about it, so we
knew Okay, when Zach Martin is healthy, he will be
playing ahead of Brack Hoffman. For those who question that,
I can answer that question, listen, But thank you for

I just so that was a bad game plan. And
it's clear right now that they got a mental thing
against Michigan. And so they can play free now because
everybody thinks they suck. And so if you want to
impress somebody and go make some noise in the playoffs.

So I remember that that year that they played Georgia.
They lost. Ryan Day's family didn't go home. They took
him to a because the mental center. No, it's death

a better coach and it's had more success kind of

State than mac Brown. Now, obviously erber Mayer left him
a whole lot, but I just think that there's something

to be said for keeping people who are doing some
significant winning and at some point time they can break through.

No, I mean I don't. I don't know. I'm not

Give him almost none if you didn't do something in
the playoffs, But it is odd all of a sudden,
Jerry's very public about his I don't know his the
praise he's offered for McCarthy as a coach, I don't
think it's I don't think it's anything close to the
worst thing they could do.
Speaker 6 (43:29):
I don't know how you bring him.
Speaker 5 (43:31):
What are the alternatives?
Speaker 6 (43:32):
Well, I say it in this like, Okay, even if
you want to bring him back, what deal do you
give him?
Speaker 2 (43:39):
Do you say one year?
Speaker 6 (43:41):
Do you say, hey, Mike, I got one year deal
for you.
Speaker 5 (43:43):
Don't don't forget he's a free agent. He could leave
of his own volition.
Speaker 6 (43:48):
If you say something, that would be the funniest thing, like, hey.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
It could happen. What if what if Jerry offers him
a two year deal and New Orleans offers him a
five year deal He's gonna leave?
Speaker 6 (43:57):
That would be the funniest thing.

Thing is It's just it's just it's more the media content.
It's where you know, it's all about content. Because two
weeks ago, the middle of five Gay Street, the question was,
are you gonna fire in the middle of the season. Okay,
you're gonna find No, I'm not firing minute. I've never
made it. I'm not doing I regretted firing way Fills
the middle of season.

this time. He's learned to keep that name out of
his mouth. I think hard way.

Most people thought you should have fired him after the

didn't do it. They brought him back. So now, if
you finish whatever it's going to be, if another losing season,
if that happens, how are you gonna justify that to
your fan base? Most of the fan base wants Jerry
to be fired. That's not gonna happen for sure. So

does he have to give him McCarthy as a concession
or can you just roll it back?

This is gonna be fun stuff.

Well until then, we've got a Monday night game, and
I guess the Simpsons are going to be doing something
the Simpsons as you watch the game on ESPN Plus
or whatever in a Manning cast, And so there you go,
a whole lot of entertainment around this game too.
