On the evening of November 16, 2022, Mica Francis Miller's sister called 911 from her home in Gaffney, South Carolina. Her husband, Pastor John-Paul Miller, had texted that he was "armed and ready" and on his way. Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell, remastered from their original True Sunlight Podcast reporting, walk through that night's 911 calls and JP's texts to Mica, swinging from guilt to scripture to threats.
Twelve days later, Mica was hospitalized at Waccamaw Center for Mental Health — not by JP Miller, but by her sister. Police records show JP tried to remove her from the facility before officers intervened, then told friends she was having a bipolar episode while telling her brother she might be committed for months.
The day she was released, Mica signed a healthcare power of attorney giving JP control over her medical care and organs. It sat unfiled for sixteen months, until someone quietly filed it in March 2024 — weeks before her death.
