Speaker 1 (00:00):
This story is set in nineteen ninety nine in Sierra Leone, Africa,
where there is a civil war over control of the diamonds,
and it begins with Solomon Bundy, who is at home
with his family in a village while his son goes
to school, he goes to work as a fisherman. On
one of those days, when both had finished their duties,
(00:21):
they were heading home when suddenly some f u R
thugs arrived to wipe out the people in the village.
Solomon hid his son and went to save his wife
and daughter, and although he managed to save them, he
was captured and separated. They were about to cut off
his hand, but since he is strong, Captain Poison, who
(00:41):
is the leader of the f u R, decides to
keep him to work as a slave in the mines,
collecting diamonds for them. There, he is overworked doing the
same as the other slaves and what happens if someone
tries to act smart and steal a diamond. Now we
meet Leonardo DiCaprio who plays Danny Archer, a smuggler of
(01:02):
both diamonds and weapons who trades weapons for diamonds with
none other than the fu R guys and from there,
he goes to Liberia, hiding the diamonds inside goats so
he won't get caught. But the soldiers, who already know
that trick, searched and arrested him. Help me reach ten
likes and five comments comment The important thing is to
(01:24):
get there. Help me reach one thousand subscribers as we
are about to achieve it. Thank you very much in advance.
Let's continue. Now we go back to Solomon, who kept
working when in the middle of the rocks, he finds
a very large pink colored diamond, and, taking advantage of
an escape, he hides it in his foot and leaves
(01:44):
to hide it, but Poison saw him and was about
to kill him when suddenly the soldiers arrived and began
killing everyone there, and those who survived, including him, were
taken to prison where Danny and Captain Poison had also
been taken, and Poison recognizes him and tells all the
prisoners that he has a very large diamond and will
(02:05):
give a thousand dollars to whoever takes it from him.
Danny heard this and considered he could take advantage of it.
They take him out of prison and he tells the
person who freed him to also get Solomon out since
he lost the diamonds and needs that one to recover
the money. Then Danny goes to see matt a friend
who does him some favors and also reports on the
(02:26):
movements of the fu Are and this is where he
meets Mattie, an American journalist who at first wanted to
get information about sun raised diamonds and about the process
they go through to reach the market in order to
expose the secrets of the companies that sell them, but
obviously Danny refuses to say anything and leaves. The next day,
he goes to see Cordel, a military colleague sent by
(02:48):
Colonelkohotze to recover the money he lost when the diamonds
were taken from him, and here Danny very kindly told
him he was going to pay him back. From there
we move on to Solomon, who is looking for his
family and the refugee lists held by the government, but
since they're not there, he goes to those who have
control over the names to tell them his family members
aren't listed, to which they reply that he has to
(03:09):
fill out the paperwork, and Solomon responds that he already did.
Then we go to his family, who were in a
village along with others hiding, but then the RUF showed
up and took all the young people, including Solomon's son.
Now we move on to Danny, who went to South
Africa to talk to the colonel. There they talk about
the past and we find out that the colonel was
the one who protected him since he was young and
(03:31):
taught him everything he knows about diamonds and how to
negotiate with them, but now he is trying to make
his own life and his own money. He also tells
him that he lost the diamonds. The colonel might care
about him, but he still owes him, and somehow he
discovered the existence of the pink diamond and told him
that with it he can pay him back. Danny tells
him that if he already had the diamond, he would
(03:53):
have left the continent. So the colonel grabs his hand
and tells him that the earth is read, referring to
a local belief among the shoon Upe people, that the
color comes from the bloodshed fighting for the land, and
that he will never abandon Africa. After that, he goes
to see Solomon to tell him he knows about the
diamond and that he wants it, but Solomon denies knowing
anything about it and goes to work. Then we move
(04:15):
on to Dia, Solomon's son, who is with the other
young people there. The RUF begins to manipulate them into
joining their cause, saying they are the heroes who will
save the nation, but their childhood is over and they
are also forced to take others' lives. Although it's not shown,
his face reflects all the horror he's experienced. That night,
Danny goes to see matt who gives him a weapon
(04:36):
and tells him the RUF will arrive soon, and there
they meet up with Mattie again and start dancing, where
she once again tries to get information out of him.
He tries to change the subject, but since she keeps insisting,
he goes for a drink.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
She followed him and told him that she also sells
diamonds in Renos, and she asked him how that was possible.
The next day, she goes to see Solomon to tell
him about the diamond, but he resists saying where it is.
He tells him he will help him find his family
if he gives him the location of the diamond, but
at that moment, the Fur arrived and a massacre begins.
(05:09):
The soldiers were also there to stop them since they
knew an attack from them was coming, so in the
city center they started fighting, even with civilians in the middle. Still,
the soldier's forces were far inferior to the f RS,
both in number and weapons, as the Fur even had bazukahs.
Danny and Solomon get into a house and see how
the soldiers surrendered and then they were wiped out. They
(05:31):
wait until nightfall to escape and see all the chaos
and destruction caused in the city. They go to a
bridge that is guarded by the Fur and Danny pretends
to be a hostage and since one of them escaped,
he had to hunt him. From there, they go to
a refugee camp where they meet with Mattie and he
tells her that he will help her by giving her
information with proof for her investigation, but first he needs
(05:53):
her to help Solomon find his family. Up to this point,
Mattie doesn't know anything about the Diamond, but she knows
something is wrong, so she investigates and goes to a
refugee camp in Guinea. She takes the opportunity to take
some photos while waiting for the family, but only the
wife and daughter arrived, so the desperate man asks where
his son is, and as he got desperate and went crazy,
(06:15):
the soldiers beat him and took him away, so they leave,
but without his family since they're not allowed to take
them out of the camps. They take a break in
a village and Danny asks Maddie help them get to
Conzuno with the help of the press convoy, and although
at first she refuses, Danny tells her how the Rento's
diamonds end up being sold all over the world. Legally,
(06:36):
he passes the diamonds across the border. His buyers passed
them through an intermediary and he bribes customs and that's
how they certify that the diamonds come from Iberia. From
there they go to other buyers where the diamonds are
examined and then taken to India, where the dirty diamonds
are mixed with those from all over the world and
become just like any other diamond From.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
There, they go to London where the Vandicap Company is,
which is the one in charge of selling the diamonds
to the public. And yes, they know that some of
their diamonds come from illegal sources. He gives her his
notebook with the evidence for her investigation, names accounts and dates,
and with that he helps her by taking them as journalists.
They cross a bridge, Mattie and Danny exchange some looks
and run into an attack by the f R. They
(07:17):
start taking photos when suddenly they are attacked so they
have to flee. Then we go to the leader of
the fur and the young people, where we see they
have already been manipulated.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Again.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
We return to the protagonists, where in the middle of
the road a truck explodes and the person driving them
gets shot, so Danny takes the wheel and they flee again,
this time into the jungle. They walk there all day
and all night until they meet the Camaggo, who are
a militia that protects civilians, and they were about to
kill them, but the one who played the hero this
time was Mattie, who makes them her friends and even
(07:47):
takes pictures of them. From there, they are taken to
a man who has a shelter for young people who
have suffered at the hands of the f R. They
tell stories, sing, drink beer, play soccer, and have a
relatively happy life. The next day they head to Kono,
but on the way they encounter some young members of
the fur and the man tries to talk to them
but ends up getting shot, so they flee again until
they finally reach the military base in Kono and take
(08:10):
the man to try to help him recover. There, Danny
meets Cordel and is told that they are evacuating all
civilians without exception, meaning Mattie has to leave. Then he
takes him to Colonel Kostsee, who tells him he will
take him to where the diamond is so he can
hand it over, so he plans to escape, but before
that he talks to Mattie so she can do him
the favor of distracting a soldier while he gathers supplies
(08:30):
for the trip. He also gives her the notebook with
the evidence, and even though they've only known each other
for a few days and he only used her as
a means to get to the diamond, they developed a
romantic bond. During the journey, he goes to the tents
to take the supplies while she goes to distract the soldier.
After that, she takes a photo of him and gives
him her number to contact her, and then she gets
on the plane. Now they head into the jungle in
(08:51):
search of the diamond and Solomon's sun. They walk all day,
all afternoon, and all night, and this is where he
meets with the ru Are and Solomon. Upon seeing some
young men, he mistook his for another and called him,
and since it wasn't him, they began to chase them.
They run and run until they hide in some branches
and stay there until the next day. Danny wakes Solomon
(09:12):
and tells him that when he was young, he had
a friend with whom he used to hunt animals in
the jungle, and that baboons were the hardest to hunt
because they were clever, fast and strong, but they would
find them by the smell of their dungue, and he
tells him that without skin, baboon meat is no different
from a man's. After eating the baboon, they continued on
their way. They passed through a village destroyed by the
(09:34):
r u R and then have a fight. Because Solomon
wants to go to the camp for his son, while
Danny only wants to go for the diamond, his father
must protect him well.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
So with that they wait until nightfall to enter the camp,
and seeing nothing, they leave and continue on their route,
and during all that time together they start forming a friendship.
They walk and walk until they finally arrive at the
camp where the diamond is, and to create a distraction
and be able to enter, Danny sends an air strike
that will arrive the next day and asks Solomon not
(10:04):
to move, But at night he left to look for
his son. He goes in and after seeing everyone who
was there, he found him and took him, but the
young man was already corrupted and they captured him. So
the next day they made him dig to take out
the diamond, but he refused, so Captain Poison threatened him,
I will find the rest of your family, just like
I found your son, and he was about to do it,
(10:25):
but at that moment the airstrike arrived, practically wiping out everyone,
even those who were just working as slaves. And then
Solomon took advantage of that to attack and finally finish
Poison off. And we also see that his son still
has innocence, because while the others were attacking with their weapons,
he just covered himself and ran away after finishing off
(10:46):
most of those who were there. Now they speak with
the colonel and he asks for the diamond, only that
he doesn't know where it is, and since Solomon didn't
want to say anything.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Danny betrays him and handed his son over to the
colonel so that Solomon would go bay. Danny seemed like
a trader, but he had a plan, so with that
he agrees to say where it is. He takes them
to where he buried the diamond, and there Danny, who
in the end didn't betray him but wanted to deceive
the others, begins to attack and take down each of
them until he finishes with the colonel, and it seemed
(11:18):
like everything had gone well until Danny felt something. He
checks himself and realizes he was shot, and to make
things worse, Solomon's son was pointing a gun at him,
but his father talked to him and thanks to those
emotional words, his son came to his senses. The family
moment was interrupted by a new danger because other soldiers
(11:40):
arrived to finish them off. He calls his friend with
the small plane to meet them on a hill and
from there they escape. They climb and climb to the top,
but Danny couldn't go on any more, so Solomon tried
to carry him, but Danny simply couldn't take it, so
with great pain, he gives the diamond to Solomon. I
thought you were going to betray me, and I considered it.
(12:01):
I admit it, Danny says, telling him to call Mattie
when he gets to Guinea, and although Solomon again offered
to carry him, Danny already knew his fate. They fled
while he sacrificed himself to stop the soldiers chasing them,
and he also calls Mattie to ask her to help
Solomon sell the diamond and give him protection. He watches
(12:21):
them leave and only says good bye to her. At
that moment, he remembered what the colonel said about the
red earth. The Shona say that color is from all
the bodily fluids that have been spilled fighting for the land.
This is your home. In the end, those words were true,
and after that Danny dies. Days later, Solomon meets with
(12:44):
Mattie in London, and from there he meets with the
assistant from bandicat the company that supposedly doesn't sell blood diamonds,
and he was going to give him two million pounds
for the diamond, but Solomon also asked for his family.
They leave and days later they call him, They take
him to an airport, and he finally reunites with his family.
What the man didn't know was that Mattie was taking
(13:06):
pictures to publish them and expose them for buying illegal diamonds.
It all ends with the company Bandicap, being exposed and
stained as corrupt, and with Solomon presenting himself to the
world as a witness to talk about everything that is
lived there. That's how this story ends. More videos created
