Speaker 1 (00:00):
Everything begins in Echo Valley, a farm built in the
nineteen eighties in southern Pennsylvania. Kate Garrett is dealing with
the death of her partner, Patty, who died a few
years ago after an accident on the farm in which
she broke her neck. She works teaching children how to
ride horses and tries to adapt to life without her.
She has a good relationship with her ex husband, Richard,
(00:21):
who is now married to another woman with whom he
has had a daughter. Richard still gives money to Kate
for the farm, as they are both still connected by
their daughter, Claire, who is an addict that only comes
back when she has run out of money to use.
Richard gives Kate nine thousand dollars to fix the roof
of a part of the farm and argues with her
because Kate is incapable of being as strict with Claire
(00:41):
as he is, and of not giving her any money
at all, since she ends up spending it all on drugs.
Kate promises to try, but when Claire returns, she forgets
that her daughter is still sick. They spend the day
together without any problems. Claire confides in her that after
a fight with her boyfriend Ryan. He threw out all
her things. That night, Ryan arrives at the farm out
(01:02):
of control. He is not so concerned about his clothes,
but about the drugs he had among his things and
the money he now owes to the one who supplies them.
Kate intervenes, but she can't stop Claire from going back
with her boyfriend. In the middle of the night, Kate
finds her in the bathroom completely drugged. She puts her
to bed, hoping that the next day she will realize
she is throwing her life away. Help me reach ten

Let's continue. At a lake near the farm, Kate and
Claire spend the morning. Kate worries about her daughter and
tries to encourage her to write again. Claire tells her
(01:47):
she's no good at writing and to stop trying to
help her. That afternoon, Jackie shows up at the farm,
the guy Ryan owes money to for losing the drugs.
He threatens him and then Claire, whom he is about
to kill. Kate intervenes, asking him to leave her property.
Jackie explains why he came there, and after telling her
he'll get his money one way or another, he leaves.
(02:08):
That night, Kate and Claire argue again. Claire demands money,
and Kate, after giving it to her for a long time,
decides to say no. When Kate locks herself in one
of the rooms, Claire threatens to take the dog and
starve it to death. Kate comes out and grabs the
dog with all her strength to protect it, while Claire
keeps yelling at her and telling her she hates her.
(02:28):
Ryan intervenes and takes her away from there. The next morning,
Kate tries to distract herself with her friend Jesse. She
knows everything about her life and has been helping her
both with Patty's death and with the problem concerning her daughter.
Kate is desperate because she doesn't know how to help
her and keep her away from her toxic boyfriend. After
(02:49):
fixing part of the farm with her and trying to
escape by dancing, Kate wakes up the next morning to
a visit from Claire. She arrives distressed and stained with blood.
She tells her that she had an argument with Ryan,
who pushed her, and that after this she saw he
had hit his head. Kate asks her daughter if Ryan
is okay. Claire shakes her head and tells her that
(03:10):
she had to defend herself with a rock. When Ryan
angrily lunged at her. Claire begs for help. Kate doesn't hesitate,
and after sending her daughter to change clothes, takes the body,
wrapped in a blanket, from the car and brings it
to the lake. Before that, she asks her daughter for
Ryan's phone and smashes it with the rock. She takes
the body in a boat and sinks it in the
(03:31):
middle of the lake with a huge block. When she
returns to the farm, she tells her daughter they need
an alibi for that night. Both will say that after
an argument at the farm that Kate witnessed, Ryan left
and Claire spent the entire night in her room. Kate
tells her that she got rid of the body in
the lake. Knowing the money problem is still there, Kate
decides to use the check her ex gave her to
(03:54):
settle the debt with Jackie. She demands that she never
set foot on her farm again. When she tells her
thet is settled, Claire hugs her mother with relief. The
next day, Kate goes on with her normal life. She
finds it strange not to see her daughter in her bed,
and that's when she starts to worry. When night comes
and there's still no sign of her, she remembers she
(04:14):
has her phone's location on her laptop. Kate drives to
where the location marks and realizes upon arrival that Ryan
is actually alive and that her daughter lied to her
about the identity of the body. They both flee, while
Kate pleads with her daughter not to leave. When she
gets home, she reads the messages on Claire's phone and
discovers that everything was a plan by Ryan, Jackie, and
(04:36):
her After the sudden death of a regular client, Jackie
came up with the idea to make the dead man
look like Ryan so Kate would help her daughter to
keep her from going to jail. From that moment on,
Kate becomes obsessed with finding out who the guy she
threw into the lake was. She rents a boat and
sets out to find him. After several attempts, she gives
up and spends the night crying while watching videos in
(04:58):
which her daughter was well and she was happy with Patty. Desperate,
she calls Jesse in the middle of the night and
tells her everything that has happened. Jesse packs all her
things and tells her to stay away from the farm
for a while and to come live with her and
her partner. After a night of laughter, Kate sees that
Jackie is standing at her door. He calls her and
says he needs to talk to her. The next day,
(05:20):
Kate and Jackie meet. He threatens her, saying that he
knows where the body is and that if she doesn't
give him more money, he will report her to the police.
Kate explains her bad financial situation, and after this they
start fighting. Jackie manages to restrain her and injects her
with drugs using a syringe. Kate manages to get on
her feet, but seconds later collapses to the ground. When
(05:43):
she comes to, Jackie tells her she will stay in
the upper area of the barn until Kate sells the
horses and the house and gives him what he demands.
Kate has no choice but to accept. While she tries
to get her daughter back, Her daughter asks her to
forget about her and gives her the name of the
guy she through into the lake. Kate investigates his life,
and seeing that there is a worried mother out there,
(06:05):
decides she's going to figure out a way to fix
all of this. With Jesse's help, who tells her that
the authorities discovered a neighbour's arson some time ago by
the residue left by flares, Kate comes up with a plan.
She tells Jackie that she's come up with an idea
to scam the insurance and collect the one hundred thousand
dollars they would give her if the barn burned down.
(06:25):
He explains to her that with a lot of straw
that catches fire easily, they can carry out the plan.
That same night, Jackie agrees, demanding also that the horses
die in the fire so the amounts she would collect increases.
After the conversation, Jackie approaches one of Kate's clients to
(06:47):
tell her that she will stop teaching classes for a while.
He explains that he is her new assistant and the
one taking care of the farm while she recovers. Once
he has filled the barn with straw and has the
flares that Jackie went out to buy, he sets the
place on fire within minutes, everything is reduced to rubble
(07:10):
and the firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire. The officer
in charge tells Kate that the insurance has discovered that
the fire was set intentionally. They found remains of the
flare that was used. Kate then pretends to have nothing
to do with it and tells them that her new employee, Jackie,
(07:32):
lived above the barn and she didn't see him all night. Meanwhile,
the authorities find a body among the rubble. Kate, with
Jesse's help, came up with the plan to recover the
body from the lake and place it in the fire.
They also released the horses. Once everything had started, Kate
(07:54):
deliberately left the flare remains with the idea of blaming
the fire on Jackie, who can prove, thanks to the
client and a bank transfer, that he was her employee.
She tells the police that he was dealing with a
guy whose identity matches that of the corpse. Jackie, furious,
denies everything and tries to explain his version. The police
(08:19):
find her so twisted that they assume she is making
it all up. After learning that she will go to
jail and stand trial, Kate hugs Jessie while crying. The
Next day, the barn's repair begins, while she notices after
waking up that the roof still needs renovation. She returns
(08:40):
to her daily life as a teacher, listening to Patty's
voice notes and worried because she doesn't know how her
daughter is doing. That night, she hears a noise in
her sleep. She gets up and finds her daughter at
the door, crying and in need of her help once again.
