mus The moves for scores around the area, reports, highlights,
plays of the game, stats and more. Our final Meyer
Scoreboard Show of the year. We've got a lot to
report on. We're getting ready for the cornerstone corner while
we run down as many scores we've got, We've got
most of them right now. Let's start out with our
games of the week you just heard here. In exciting
(00:29):
finish there, West Catholic beats Zealand West twenty eight to sixteen.
West Cathley Conference champion improves to eight and one overall.
Zealand West headed for the playoffs anyway at six and three.
Our one oh seven Lake Shore game of the Week
just finished up. Oakridge knocks off North Muskegan, a big
rivalry game out on the shoreline there. It was Oakridge
forty one, North Muskegan twenty seven. Let's head to the
(00:49):
Okay Reddit an overtime thriller at Caledonia to night. Caledonia
gotta win. They're still alive, believe it or not. Despite
the fact being below five hundred. It was Caledonia fourteen.
Jennison seven and Dan Hay covered that game for us.
Let's go out live on the live line right now
to Dan Hasty and get the update on that game.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Dan Rick Burkie reporting from the ralph In Caledonia High School.
This is the Service Professor's game reporter Dan Hasty, which
from Meyer High School scoreboard show summary. Thanks to Service
Professor heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical to fix it in
a snap. Well, this game didn't exactly go in a snap.
This was a long one here tonight. We went to
overtime here tonight the Caledonia Fighting Scott's come up with
(01:29):
a victory by the final score of fourteen to seven
over the Jennison Wildcats. This game, as much as it
was about plays that were made, was almost more about
plays that were not made, plays that were foiled late
in the contest, especially and throughout the contest. But in
the first quarter, Caledonia scored on its first scoring drive,
a two yard run on fourth and goal for their
(01:52):
quarterback Andrew Hannah playing for the injured Bryce backus. That
made it seven to nothing. Meanwhile, Jennison had not won
but two op vicinities to kick field goals with one
of the great kickers in the OK red and Cohen Chatfield.
His forty three yards field goal to try and get
Jennison on the board was good, but an illegal formation
penalty backed it up five yards and then his next
(02:13):
try was blocked. That was just kind of how this
game was going to go throughout the course of the night. Then,
after Jennison scored a touchdown to tie the game at
seven in the third quarter, Caledonia was unable to get
the game winning field goal they were looking for. They
missed two potential go ahead field goals in the quarter
number four. This game eventually went to overtime and on
(02:36):
the first drive Caledonia able to put it in the
end zone. Ryan Wisaki, they're running back over one hundred
yards here tonight. He ends up making it a fourteen
to seven overtime lead. Then on the ensuing possession for Jennison,
here's where it got really interesting, as they had it
with third and long after a penalty backed them up
to their fifteen yard line, in this case Caledonia's fifty.
(03:00):
They threw a touchdown. It was a catch by Ethan
Morris in the end zone, but a holding penalty negates
the touchdown, brings it back ten yards. They don't get
it on fourth down and twenty six they end up
throwing the desperation heaven falls incomplete in Caledonia, who still
has a percentage opportunity to make the postseason, keeps those
(03:24):
hopes alive, really living up to their Fighting Scott's nickname
here tonight in our game, the Healthcare Associates play of
the game was that final desperation play in the end zone,
as Caledonia was able to knock it away, and even
more so the play that set it up, that holding
penalty that negated what could have been the touchdown that
may as well could have very much decided the contest
(03:45):
had Jennison gone for two. Both of these teams now
sit at four and five, and now we just wait
and see what the selection committee has to say. Once again,
our final score here tonight from Caledonia High School in overtime,
the Caledonia Fighting Scott's fourteen and the Jennison Wildcats seven
and are Healthcare Associates Player of the game and this
(04:06):
one tonight, Ryan Wisaki. He was as steady eddy as
they come over one hundred yards for the Senior on
Senior Night, reporting from Caledonia High School. This is a
service professor's game reporter Dan Hasty, All right.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Dan, well we got you there. It's kind of a
couple things. First of all, it's a new era really
in multiple ways for Caledonia this year, new coach Whitney,
bell and stadium improvements as well. What can you tell
us about the new look.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Of the ralph You know, this has been so much time,
effort and energy. Earlier this season, the season was not
able to be started, at least in the normal sense,
because they had to play one of their games at
a different location because the building was not quite ready
to go. But now as we look around, you can
certainly see it coming together. Isn't a whole lot of
(04:52):
support for this school over the last couple of years,
especially on the financial front, and this is a place
that continues to see more more improvements as we go along.
We're here, we've been here watching games for about the
last five seasons, and to see what it looked like
then versus what it looks like now. I mean it's
just night and day. But now, much like the fields
kind of came along throughout the course of the season,
(05:14):
so did the team and they finish on a enough
swing here tonight.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Well, no, coach Whitney Bell got something momentum again. As
you said, it's gonna come right down to points or
maybe tens of a point whether Caledonian Jennison get in
the postseason. We're going to try to track down coach
Whitney Bell and talk about this exciting win in their
regular season finale. Dan Hasey has been a thrill to
have you with us once again. Great job all year
long with his reports. We look forward to working with
you and on best of luck as you head out
(05:39):
for your Division one basketball now.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Always a pleasure, Rick, appreciate.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
It all right.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Thanks Dan Hassey win again overtime Caledonia fourteen, Jennison seven.
Both teams finish four and five and we'll wait and
see selection Sunday to see if either or both get
into the postseason final. It's not a final, East kem
with leading grand Haven forty nine to twenty one late
in the fourth quarter, so we don't have quite a
final on that. Another final from the OK Red where
(06:08):
Hudsonville nearly had its perfect season blemished by neighborhood rival
Granville but Hudsonville held off the Bulldogs twenty eight to
twenty five. Hudsonville improved to nine and oh on the
season and seven and oh undefeated Okay Red Champions Outright Champions.
Rockford was hoping that maybe Hudsonville can get upset by
Granville and then they could get a win tonight, and
(06:28):
Rockford did its part. It beat West out of a
forty nine to fifteen, but Hudsonville win clinches the Outright
title in the Red twenty eight to twenty five over Granville.
Granville finishes four and five, and some experts are saying,
despite Granville being at four and five that they might
still get in.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Maybe not.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
We'll have to wait and see if the Bulldogs are
able to get in at four and five. All Right,
we've got other scores from around the area. We're gonna
go to the cornerstone Corner next time around, Joe Aarin.
We'll have as many finals as we've got. We've got
about eighty percent of them still coming in. So stay tuned.
If you want to hear how your school did in
final game of the regular season, stay with us. And
before we do that, we'll tell you that some people
listen to podcasts to be entertained, some to learn things
(07:06):
on a personal level. Now imagine a single podcast that
is entertaining, educational, and informative. That podcast is Docs who Lift.
Two West Michigan doctors, Doctors Carl and Spencer Nadolski, former
Division one athletes, have created Docs who Lift out of
a passion for fighting health misinformation. Topics include obesity, hormones,
(07:28):
and other health topics with an emphasis on fitness and tutrition.
Check out Docs who Lift on apples, Spotify, YouTube, and

who Lift and one other couple scores will give you

game in the third period goals by John Leonard, Dominic
(07:51):

World Series in the fourth inning Dodgers two Toronto nothing
in Game one of the World Series. All right, we'll
take a break, come back, go to the cornerstone corner,
give you all the finals we got, so stay with us.

On our Lake Shore game of the week, Oakridge defeated
North Muskegan forty one to twenty seven. Holland Christian defeats
Grand Rapresh Christian thirty five twenty two. Coming up in
the scoreboard show, we will speak to Holland Christian head
coach Dave Aberger, as the Maroons win may have pushed
them into the playoffs. Catholic Central defeated South Christian twenty
(09:45):
four to seventeen. Muskegan goes on the road and gets
womped by Cincinnati Moeller fifty six to thirteen. And East
Grand Rapids defeats Forest Hills Central thirty four to six.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep earlier.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Tonight defeated Unity Christian thirty four to twenty five. On
the Lake Shore, Newego defeated Fremont twenty six to sixteen,
Monting Hue over Ravanna twenty eight twenty five and Buchanan
at home tonight over uskekon Kazak Central forty six to six.
In the OK Silver sees Olivet over Comstock Part Tonight
forty nine to fourteen. Hopkins in a defensive battle defeats
(10:19):
Fruitpoort Tonight twelve to seven, and the battle of the
OK Silver came down to Belding and Godwin Heights. Both
teams come in at seven and one. Belding gets to
win tonight fifty two to twenty. Our very own Bo
Hobson has the.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
Report reporting from Belving High School. This is Service Professor
Game reporter Bo Hobson with a Meyer High School scoreboard.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Show summary.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
This report is presented by Service Professor Heating, Cooling, Plumbing,
and Electrical. They'll fix it in a snap score here
Tonight in what was the OK Silver Championship game, fifty
two to twenty, Belvin coming out with the victory and
the outright OK Silver crown over the Godwin Heights Wolverines.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
And this was a fun one right from the start.
It was a pack stadium.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Godwin Heights actually brought two fan buses and a whole
lot of offense in the first half made for a
memorable championship clash. Belding got the scoring started in the
first when Ethan King scored the first of his three
first half touchdowns on the ground, this one from seventeen
yards out to put Belding up six to nothing. After
a miss, pat Godwin Heights responded on their ensuing possession
(11:28):
behind a ten yard rushing score from Julius Hoskins and
a converted extra point put Godwin Heights up seven to six.
Ethan King and Julius Hoskins then exchanged back to back
scores in quick succession to tie the ballgame up at
fourteen early in the second quarter. But shortly after Hoskins
tied it, Ethan King decided he needed another deep in
(11:49):
Belding's own territory. King busted through the line untouched on
a third down play, and he sprinted eighty yards to
the house to make it twenty two to fourteen in
what was Tonight's Healthcare Associates Play of the Game. I
wasn't sure we were gonna see a defensive stop all
game at that point, but it happened on Godwin Heights'
next possession as they were forced to punt, and Belding
(12:10):
immediately took advantage. A march down the field ended with
the Noah Rittenberg two yard touchdown run to put the
Black Knights up twenty eight to fourteen, and it looks
like Belding might ride that two touchdown lead into halftime,
but Godwin Heights had something to say about that. With
six seconds left in the first half, Martelli's Forest connected
on a beautiful throw up the middle of the field
(12:31):
to ta John Allen for the game's first passing touchdown,
and we headed into the half twenty eight to twenty,
Belding on top. Now, after an eventful first half, all
that scoring, it was all Belding in the second and
it looked like Godwin Heights had just ran out of gas.
After forcing a turnover on downs, Belding's Ethan King broke
the game open with his fourth that's right, count them
(12:54):
fourth rushing touchdown of the day, this run from forty
nine yards out to push the Black Knight lead to
thirty six to twenty. The Belding defense came up with
an interception on Godwin's next possession, and the ensuing drive
is really what cemented this game. Fifteen play eighty yard
drive that ate up nearly thirteen minutes of game time
culminated in a one yard Teagan van dijke In touchdown
(13:16):
to push the score to forty four to twenty. After
the two point conversion and the Black Knights looked in
complete control of the rest of the game, Tyler Simon
added a thirty four yard touchdown late in the fourth
of the Knights just for good measure, and Belding comes
out on top comfortably in this one to take the
Okay Silver crown in front of their home crowd. Black
Knights improved at eight and one on the season in
(13:37):
a sparkling six to zero Okay Silver record. Well, Godwin
Heights falls to seven and two and five and one
in the Silver, but despite a disappointing result tonight for them,
they'll still be eagerly awaiting their placement in the playoffs
comes Sunday once again. Final here tonight from Belding High
School fifty two to twenty Black Knights over Godwin Heights
(13:58):
and Tonight's Healthcare Associates. Player of the Game can only
go to Belding running back Ethan King two hundred and
sixty one yards on fifteen rushes and four touchdowns, including
that momentum swinging eighty yarder. You really can't do much
better than that in a championship game. This report was
presented by Service Professor They'll fix it in a snap
(14:19):
and reporting from Belding High School. This is Service Professor
game reporter Bo Hobson.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Thank you very much, Bo.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
And in the World Series, we are in the bottom
of the fifth inning right now in the Dodgers and
the blue Jays are tied it too as the do
as the Blue Jays have tied it with a Dalton
bar show to run home run again in the bottom
of the fifth and currently live on wood Radio thirteen
hundred and one O six nine FM. Final score of
the Grand Rapids Griffin's defeat from Manitoba Moose tonight four
(14:48):
to nothing. When we come back, we will have Holland
Christian heading football coach Dave Aberger as the Meyer Scoreboard
show rolls on on nine to six won the game
and one oh seven m us the Moose.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
It's one of the most exciting times of the year
in high school sports across the state of Michigan, where
Week nine of the regular season of high school football.
Some teams playing to get in, some teams hoping to
get in, some teams knowing that they're in but trying
to get a home field advantage in the first round.
A lot of exciting action. We've got some finals that
we've got still more to come. One of the teams
that went into week nine here hanging by a thread
(15:27):
or hoping to get a win, hoping to get in
by the Narrowstu Margins Holland Christian Maroons. They took on
rival Grand Rapis Christian tonight at the home of the Maroons,
and Holland Christian prevailed thirty five to twenty two, and
Holland Christian head coach Dave aberg Or joined us right now. Coach,
congratulations on an exciting win over Arrival and big win
for your guys, and according to what we've seen and read,
(15:49):
it looks like it might be enough to get you in,
he said, with a question mark.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
Yeah, I think it's an exclamation point at this point
we're hoping for. Thank you guys very much.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
You know, let's talk a little bit about before we
even get to tonight's game. Coach, you won out. It
started out win four of your first five. You're sitting
really good at four and one. Then you drop three
straight around, including a one point heartbreaker to do a
good thrown upple Kellogg squad last week, and you've got
to be you and your staff have to be especially
proud of your young men who dropped three games in
(16:21):
a row and all of a sudden, promising season looks
like it might be hanging in the balance, and you
guys bounce back and win a big one when you
have to, And that's got to be satisfying for everybody.
Speaker 7 (16:32):
It really is, It really is.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
You know, high school kids are. It's so much fun
to coach high school kids, and you want them to
stay locked in. You want them to be ready for
every game. You know, start off with a north few game.
We start off hot. In that game, we went up
and and we were up on them, and they made
it come back and we had just a couple we
had a couple of turnovers we could recover from. And
that's been the key in all these games and all
of these these close battles who've been fighting, Uh, it
(16:56):
just comes down a turnover. Sports. We've got some youth,
We've got a quarterback with the defensive back force last year,
and he's taken some lumps with me and he just
keeps coming back, and I'm so proud of him and
proud of our guys, and you get to the point
where you're like, man, can we can we close out
a game? And earlier in the week, we said, hey,
what do we do well? And we asked the kids
in our meeting what do we do well and what
do we struggle at? And all of them said, hey,
(17:18):
we can't finish out games. Were not closing on games.
And we said that changes this week, and so so
proud of those kids and they just really you know,
they locked it up arming on together tonight. So we're
going to finish this thing.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Out on Christian Coach Dave Aberger joining us on the
live line right now. And Coach haven't had a chance
to look at the tape yet, but just from what
you observed on the sidelines, give us a couple of
guys or maybe a position unit that you know stood
out tonight for the Maroons.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
Yeah, shout out to our offensive line. They really growing
up as christ and credit to them. They've got taking
get out a phenomenal quarterback and kirch Unberg does a
phenomenal job with their play calling and getting ready. But
they did some tricky things with some of their some
of their slams and things like that that were hard
for our offensive line to pick up. But our guys
reacted to that and just late physical and so our
(18:01):
offensive line. But our running back Zay Meyers is just
an animal when he gets loose to the open field. Yeah,
I mean, he's like a deer running like it's just
it's beautiful to watch and run and he's really hard
to catch.
Speaker 8 (18:13):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
Simon Groton heights to one of our receivers who is
just uh, he's a great route runner, He's a technician
and just proud of him. He's a three year starter
for us. And then our Mike linebacker is Will Grant,
and Will Grant is a double digit tackle machine every
week and he is just the heart and soul of
our team. Is a great leader. And yeah, tonight, all
three of those guys were huge impact players for us.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Dave, I know everybody's tired, little bang up there. What's
your general health of the squad? Is you going to
get ready for the postseason?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (18:42):
You know, we lost our We would say, we would
say he was our our team cat. He was a
team captain the very first game against Allendale Cole Meisty
and he broke his leg. He broke his leg last
year in a different spot completely and so two back
to back heres with Herris Gendris from the poor kid
and so that that took us a little bit to
readjust defense. But I think we've got the kids that
(19:03):
are sore, but we've got the kids that are coming
back right now as well to really excited about about
what our team is at. I think our mental health
is in the right spot, especially after tonight, But physically
physically we're really hanging in there. I think we're getting
our second win here.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Well, we want to wish you the best of luck
and what appears to be a playoff clinching win tonight.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
You're headed for the postseason.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Dave Holland Christian twenty eight or thirty five rather Grands
Christian twenty two the Maroons. Dave Aberger, thanks for joining
us so much. Best of luck in the postseason.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
Hey, thank you so much. Praise God, go Maroons.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
All right?
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Good hearing with that, We've got a couple more coaches
lined up by the way Monty Price, the coach of
the Belding Black Knights, who are their big win. Tonight
they clinched the outright okay silver title fifty two to
twenty over God, he's going to join us also trying,
also trying to track down coach Whitney Bell from Caledonia
as they got the win. We heard Dan Hasey report
on that a little well. Football fans, are you looking

What it was like this week in school, because I know,
you know, when you get two teams this doesn't happen
too often that you go into the final game of
the regular season and two teams identical tied at the
top of you and Godwin Heist both five and oeren
league plays seven to one overall. So it had to
be quite a buzz going around building high school.
Speaker 7 (25:44):
Oh absolutely, you know, it's kind of ironic how it
worked out, you know that, you know, we're playing the
the the other undefeated league team in week nine, But
what an environment it was. And you know, our kids,
our kids were business as usual, you know, surprise, but
you know, just focused on the task at hand and
(26:05):
doing everything that we needed him to do. We had
a great week of preparation and they worked hard and
you know, went out and executed. That's what it's all about.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
MANI it was twenty four to twenty at the half.
It was anybody's ballgame. Your team outscored Godwin Heights twenty
eight nothing the second half.
Speaker 7 (26:20):
What was the difference, Actually, I think it was twenty
eight twenty, But nonetheless.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
It was yeah, thank you, Yeah, it was yeah, yeah.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
You know, we were just focusing on the uncontrollables too much.
So we went in and in at halftime and you know,
kind of just tried to switch the mindset, you know,
don't worry about the things we can't control. Worry about
the things that we can control. And our kids rose
up and came out and man, we played a super
second half and held them scoreless and of course ended
(26:50):
up with fifty two points. So you know, our kids
responded and that's what we needed him to do in
that moment. Godwin Heights is an incredibly talented team, So
very very proud of my kids.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Monty Price Belting coach with us right now talking about
his team winning the Okay Silver outright beating Godwin Heights
fifty two to twenty. Coach, that's the fifth time this
season you've gone fifty points or more. Did you know
that you had that kind of offense going into the
season or did you feel that way at least?
Speaker 7 (27:18):
Well, we'd like to think so, you know, we'd like
to think so, but you know, we've had a couple
of games where we didn't have that offense. So you know,
we've just stayed the course and continue to work on
you know, the repetitions at practice and trying to fine
tune what we do. And we're playing pretty darn good
football right now from an offensive perspective, and you know,
(27:40):
not bad defensively as well. So pretty happy with where
we're at and where we're sitting.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
I know coaches don't talk about with their players, but
I know behind closed doors, and you know, you already
got your spot secured in the postseason, You're already thinking
about who you might play. What's your gut feeling. Do
you have it down to a couple or two or
three teams that you think that we might very well
play in the first round.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
Yeah, I mean, you know, we're kind of leaning towards
a possible Montague matchup or a Central moont Com matchup.
But you know, I think I think it's a little
bit early to jump to any conclusions because I think
in at least in Division six, you know, there are
some things that could happen, and some teams, if they
win or lose, you know, could jockey positions. So you know,
(28:21):
we're gonna look at all of the scores at the
end of the night and kind of try to formulate
where we think we might go. But ultimately it'll be
up to the MHSA and where they put us, and
we're ready for wherever that may be.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Belding, Coach, MONTI Price join us. We can't let you
go with that. Talking about the incredible night by your
running back Ethan King two hundred and sixty one, totally ours,
four touchdowns. You've had some great running backs at Belding
through the years, that he's got to be one of them.
Speaker 7 (28:46):
Also, yeah, he's having a super year. I mean, just
a tremendously skilled kid. Thank goodness, he's just a junior.
We're gonna be glad to have him back next year
as well. But you know, hitting that that middle trap,
you know, that's where we were buttering our bread with
that play tonight, and Ethan ran it to perfection and
(29:06):
had a huge, huge night.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
All right, coach, you're all ready for it. Now, what
are you going to tell the team when you get
to practice Monday? Because they're celebrating the league title tonight,
I know, and well deserved it is. But now they've
got to refocus. What's the key points you're going to
be stressing to them at practice before they take the
field Monday.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
We've already talked about that Rick, We're gonna get together
on Sunday for the selection show, and we told the kids,
you know, enjoy it tonight, enjoy it tomorrow. But six
o'clock Sunday night, it's time to refocus and lock in
and get ready for a hard day's work on Monday
and in preparation for our first round opponent.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Well, thanks for joining us, MANI. Best of luck to
you in the future. I know Godwin Heights also going
to the postseason, So congrats on the OK Silver title.
Another notch in the belt for the Black Nights, and
good luck in the playoffs and we'll catch up with
you down the road.
Speaker 7 (29:57):
Thank you so much, appreciate.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
You all right, Moni Ice, head coach of the Belding
Black Knights who win the OK Silver to Night fifty
two to twenty over Godwin Heights. And how about that
we told you about Ethan King running for two hundred
and sixty one totally yards, Well, we combined all of
that and made that the service Professor Electrifying Play of
the Night. We made a snap decision and said, you
know what, that's going to do it for our service
professor electrifying Play of the Plays of the night service
(30:19):
professor will fix it in a snap and belding Ethan
King scored four times in a snap, beating his team
to that big win and the conference crown. Speaking of
a big win, tonight, Caledonia got a big win in
overtime over Jennison fourteen to seven, and our good friend
Nate Wangler caught up with Whitney Bell, the first year
coach of Caledonia, about the win.
Speaker 9 (30:41):
Coach, Whitney Bell, will make this one quick for you.
I know you got a lot of hugs to give
out here tonight. An emotional win for you guys. You
get to walk the field at the very end there.
What makes you most proud about this group of seniors
this year?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Well, I mean they've I.
Speaker 10 (30:53):
Mean you understand most of these kids put on a
Caledonia football jersey since they're in third grade. I mean,
this has been their life for a really long time.
But it's not not just them, but for their parents
and family members. Right It's it's a lot of sacrifice
that their families have given just for this program.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
So it's the least we could do.
Speaker 10 (31:08):
I don't think we honor them, and I don't think
we honor our seniors enough.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
I'm pretty proud of these kids.
Speaker 9 (31:12):
And it's tough to stay in for a long time.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
It's tough to do it.
Speaker 9 (31:15):
It's it's all the time, especially with the off season
and everything. There really is no off season for these
guys when it comes to this senior class. What's something
special that they did this year?
Speaker 10 (31:23):
I would say just the way they brought this team
together and they realized. I mean, you get understand like
this class, they've always been told they're not good, and
they've been told this for three or four years. And
to end the way we ended, and you know, we
gotta wait to see what everything else is gonna happen.
Everything folds out, which makes me the most proud, right
like what they have instilled in us in my first year,
hopefully we can keep building from it.
Speaker 9 (31:44):
Are you seeing did you see that progress towards the
end of the year.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
It was a little tough for you guys, but did.
Speaker 9 (31:49):
You see yourself start to check off some of those
boxes here towards the end.
Speaker 10 (31:52):
Last time I checked, we lost a few weeks ago
in overtime. We won tonight, So that checks that box.
Speaker 9 (31:57):
When you look forward, I know it's a roll of
the dice you talk to about. There's a chance you
could get in. There's a chance that you're not. But
if you don't. What's your biggest takeaway from what this
year's been for you guys?
Speaker 10 (32:07):
I think the biggest takeaway is watching the team come
together in the culture that we're trying to build here now.
I think they created a very good baseline for us,
and now we just got to keep Now it's up
to the juniors and sophomores to keep building from that
culture that we're creating.
Speaker 9 (32:19):
Congrats on everything, go have fun with this one.
Speaker 10 (32:21):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
I appreciate it, and thanks Tonate Wangler for his fine
job getting that information to us. A pair of teams
outside of Grand Rapids, but certainly very very keen in
the one oh seven mus the Moose area, Raven and
Montague both teams four and four squaring off tonight, and
our Scott de Camp was there.
Speaker 8 (32:40):
Reporting from Antou High School. This is a service Professor
game reporter Scott de Camp with a Meyer High School

be a playoff primer. How do you capitalize on a
Ravana second half turnovers to wipe out a ten point
deficit and earn a twenty eight twenty five victory In
(33:01):
the regular season finale on the Wildcat Senior Night, both
teams appear to be playoff bound as Division six Montague
improved to five and four and head coach Phil Coop's
first season at the Helm. Division seven Ravana slips to
four and five overall, but feels as though it's securely
in the playoffs, Leading seventeen to seven and a half
time Ravana fumble the second half opening kickoff, montu's senior
(33:23):
quarterback Eli Peterson's eight yard scoring run cut the deficit
to three. Midway through the third quarter. It was the
first of three straight Ravana turnovers that Montague converted into tds.
Following another Ravana fumble, Peterson captain Montague scoring drive with
a one yard run on a quarterback sneak to give
the Wildcast the first lead of the night, twenty one

(33:44):
Ravenna was intercepting on it's next drive and Cooper Bradley
scored on a one yard run with about five minutes
left in the game to build Montague's lead to twenty
eight to seventeen. Ravenna was not finished. Dylan May hit
Brody Anderson on a seven yard touchdown pass and on
the ensuing two point conversion with three twenty six left
to pull Ravanna within twenty eight twenty five. Mining You
recovered the outside kick and looked to put it away,
(34:05):
but the Wildcats fumbled in Ravana to territory with forty
two seconds left. The Bulldogs had no timeouts left and
took over on the MANU thirty nine. They drove into
Wildcats territory before Caleb Schmidt picked off a pass at
the Ravan eighteen to effectively end it. The Healthcare Associates

Back on my high school scoreboard show, Rick Burkey talking
about the ok Silver Tonight, the Big Game Building beats
Goburn fifty fifty two to twenty to claim the outright
Silver title. Hopkins knocks off Fruitport and two teams battling
for a playoff spot. Another team in the Silver was
battling for a playoff spot tonight. According to most records
(40:28):
we've seen and read, Kelloggsville was hosting Holland tonight, and
even though the Rockets were five and three on the year,
a lot of the pro cast are prognosticators, you know
what I'm trying to say, said that with a loss,
even at five and four, Kelloggsville might not get in. Well,
the Rockets seem to take care of business on their solf,
knocking off Holland tonight forty to thirty four to go
(40:48):
to six and three on the year, and Kellousville coach
Justin Dinnett joined us on the line right now, Coach,
I don't forget what we were reading the sayings said like,
you guys had to win to get have a chance
to get in. How did you feel about your chances
with a victory before you even took the field tonight.
Speaker 7 (41:02):
Yeah, we we told our kids that before that, you know,
we had to win to get in. We weren't gonna,
you know, leave it up to chance and have to
have a bunch of other people lose. So our kids
knew that and they played like it. You know, we
talked about playing like it could be your last one,
and they left it all out there and just really
proud of our our effort and we let it get
(41:24):
a little closer than it should have at the end,
but we were able to hold on and get to win.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Tell us a few guys that you know played well
from you tonight, just as you watch from the sidelines.
Speaker 7 (41:32):
Kanton Gibson had an incredible night. I don't know the
official stats yet, but well over two hundred yards rushing
out assume we we said him over and over. He
had to have, you know, thirty carries for probably a
couple hundred yards and maybe five touchdowns. I think he
had so really good night for Kante. But it all
(41:53):
starts up front.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
You know.
Speaker 7 (41:54):
I told the offensive line before the game that it
was on them, and they they rose the occasion. We
had a couple of different guys playing early in the
game and kind of rotated lineman in and you know,
they all stepped up and played really well. So great
team effort. But Keiant we really really put it on
his shoulders tonight carrying the ball and.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
He delivered for us.
Speaker 7 (42:16):
He's a tough runner and made big plays when we
needed it.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Position wise, justin what was your biggest strength of the
team this year?
Speaker 3 (42:23):
Do you think.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
Our biggest strength position wise.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Yeah, we have.
Speaker 7 (42:29):
Some good skill kids, you know we have. We have
a good team speed. Like I mentioned, Kiante and Cameron
Dunbar quarterback didn't play very much tonight because he got
hurt last week. So Isaac Kyle stepped in there and
did a great job kind of just leave the offense
up front offensively on the offensive line we got much
(42:49):
better too, and then we ended up giving up thirty
four points. But our defense played better tonight than we
have lately. We forced a bunch of turnovers. I think
we had three or four turn overs on the night
that we forced and so again team effort, defense stepped
up when we needed it, and offensive line really paved
the way for Kiance.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
To have a big night.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
Kelling to a coach, Justin Denner joined us on the
live line right now, Coach, I know last week you
fell to neighborhood rival Godwin Heights, And I'm a Wyoming
kid myself, and I know what that game means to
those two teams, those two neighborhoods and those two school
districts a joining each other like that. Was that especially
tough to get them to bounce back when practice came
(43:31):
Monday after falling to their arrival like that.
Speaker 7 (43:34):
Yeah, you know it was that's a big game for
our kids, and so they were pretty down after it,
but we just tried to have the message, you know,
it's just one game at the end of the day.
That's not our super Bowl. You know, our goal was
to make the playoffs, and we knew that we had
a chance if we'd beat Holland, you know, we'd get in.
And so that was really the message to get them
to respond that it's sucked losing to our rivals, and
(43:57):
you know, we were frustrated because we jumped out on
early and thought it could have been a closer game.
But really proud of how our kids responded. We had
a good week of practice and guys really played well tonight.
It was senior night, it was homecoming, last game of
the year, had the win to get in and they
rose to the occasion. So just proud of our kids.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Couldn't much better. Ben bench, better for the Rockets all
the way around. Coach Justin Dennis of Kelloggsville, congrats on
the win and you're a parent birth in the postseason.
Best of luck in the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (44:27):
Coach Hey, thank you.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
Thanks for having me all right.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
Big win for them. Also a big battle tonight between
Fruitport and Hopkins. Those two teams both four and four
on the year. One looks like they needed to win
to get in. I thinks looked like they both needed
to win to get in. Let's see how it all
turned out. Lucas symbol was.
Speaker 11 (44:44):
There, reporting from Hopkins High School. This is Service Professor
Game Reporter Lucas simble A Meyer High School Scoreboard Show summary.
This report is presented by Service Professor Heating, Cooling, Plumbing,
and Electric Goal. They'll fix it in a snap here tonight.
In the battle for the right to play again in
Week ten, Hopkins was able to get a late defensive
stop inside their own twenty five yard line and then
(45:06):
ran off the clock with two first downs as they
held off Fruitport twelve to seven, seemingly securing a spot
in the Division five playoffs. With a massive win, Hopkins
took its opening drive of the game right down the field,
with quarterback Merrick Sepaulnick finding tight end Blake Hima for
a thirty three yard touchdown pass to make it seven
nothing Vikings. About three minutes into the game, Fruitport went
(45:26):
on the lengthy drive of their own and moved the
ball down to the Hopkins twenty five early in the
second quarter, but a pass into the end zone was incomplete,
giving the ball back to the Vikings. Hopkins proceeded to
hold onto the ball for over eight minutes before being
faced with a fourth and goal from the Fruitport two
yard line. The Trojan defense was up to the task, though,
stopping Hopkins at the one foot line with one to
fifty left in the first half, but the Viking defense
(45:49):
took matters into their own hands as they forced the
safety on the next play, with Hopkins then moving the
ball close enough to race kicker Vicente Garza and his
teammates onto the field with no timeouts left, as guards
drilled the thirty one yard field goal just before the
half to make it twelve nothing. Vikings yards were not
easy to come by in the second half, as the
Hopkins backup kicker was wide right from thirty two yards
(46:10):
out and Fruitport was forced to punt on its first possession,
But the Trojans finally got on the scoreboard. Quarterback Brady
Hanson shoveled a past the Kaitlin teeter for a six
yard score with just four to fifty eight left to
go in the game, cutting the Hopkins vanished to just
twelve seven. Things got even diceier for Hopkins just three
plays later when Zapolnick threw a pass right into the
waiting arms of Fruitport defensive end David Johnson Jimenez, who
(46:33):
brought the interception back six yards to the Viking twenty
four with three thirty one left to play, but the
Hopkins defense stood tall once again, forcing Fruitport into a
fourth and eight play from the Viking twenty two yard line,
with Henry Tunisen and Haima providing pressure and forcing Hanson's
attempted screen pass to fall incomplete. In what was Our
Healthcare Associates play of the game, guards had broke off
(46:55):
runs of six, eight and nine yards and Zapolnick had
a one yard steak to steal the win. As Hopkins
was able to run out the final seventy five seconds
of the game. Zipolnik finished the game five to six
for ninety one yards. In the one touchdown pass will Hopkins,
running back Justin Van Wagner carried the ball twenty six
times for sixty eight yards. Fruitport falls to four and
five three and three in the ok Silver. With the
(47:16):
loss and will by all accounts fall just short of
the Division three playoffs, Hopkins up the record to five
and four, also three and three in the Silver, and
has probably assured themselves to a spot in the Division
five tournament starting next weekend. This report was presented by
Service Professor. They'll fix it in a snap once again.
Our final here tonight from Hopkins High School was Hopkins twelve,
(47:36):
Fruitport seven, and our healthcare Associate's player of the game
was the entire Hopkins defense, who helped Fruitport to just
one hundred and twenty four yards of total offense while
also providing a huge stop for a safety late in
the first half that made it a two score game

wild one as the Huskies defeat the Wildcats seventy to
(49:17):
thirty five tonight. And yes, that is a high score
and not the most historic score you've probably heard in
high school football. But wait till you hear about some
individual statistics that took place tonight. The game opened with
a Norfew drive that ended in an eight yard touchdown
pass from Brayln Jefferson, their quarterback, to senior Jack Van
Preyen that opened up the scoring seven to nothing. Forest Hills.
(49:38):
Northern answered with a fifty one yard touchdown run by
Owen Ostipo. Oh and he wasn't close to finish seven
to seven was your game? After a punt and interception
to swap possessions for each side, an eighteen yard touchdown
pass a halfback pass from bol Peterson to AJ Johnson
for Northview that made it fourteen to seven, giving Northew
(50:00):
what would be its only lead of the ballgame. Northern
answered back on the first play of the second quarter,
a ten yard touchdown run by Owen Ostobo his second
of the game. After a punt, Colton Sawyer for the
Huskies got on the board. The senior scored a twenty
one yard touchdown run to give the Huskies the lead
seven minutes left into the second quarter, and Norfew responded
(50:23):
very nicely with their longest drive of the game that
lasted only two minutes and forty seven seconds, but yes,
that was their longest drive time wise. Jalen Gant with
the two yard touchdown run. Owen Astipo then again struck
a seventy nine yard touchdown run. There was still four
minutes left in this third second quarter and we had
(50:44):
plenty of time for four possessions still before we got
to the locker room. Why because after a botched punt,
there was a thirty five yard touchdown pass by Forest
Hills Northern to Dane Briggs, and then after a turnover
on downs, Ostapo struck again with another seventy nine yard
touchdown run. So he had a pair of seventy nine
yard touchdown runs in the first half alone. He had
(51:09):
three hundred and twenty yards rushing, breaking the school record
in two quarters. And guess what he wasn't done. Forest
Hills Northern scored again after the opening kickoff another touchdown
by Colton Sawyer his second of the game, but the
Wildcats kept coming made it forty nine to twenty eight.
After Jefferson struck again to A. J. Johnson for thirty
seven yards. Colton Sawyer finished his career as a Husky
(51:32):
with a fifty five yard touchdown run his third of
the game. Now fifty six points on the board for
the Huskies. Then that's when Forest Hills northerns owen Ostopos
struck again a fifty one yard touchdown run for awen
Ostibo that was his fifth on the ground. That made
it sixty three to twenty eight. Each team tacked on
one more score and that's how he got to seventy
(51:54):
to thirty five. So some stats in this ballgame, owen
Ostapo scores our runs for four hundred and thirty yards
on the ground by himself. Now I've been looking at
the NHSAA record books. From what I can tell, that
is thirteenth all time ever in the state of Michigan
for most rushing yards buy an individual this evening by
(52:17):
quarterback and the junior all Ostipo. And the six hundred
and thirty five yards rushing by Foresails Northern as a
team is also up there in the history books. Our
Healthcare Associates Player of the game. Do I need to
say it? Let's just say he also got five touchdowns
on the ground and ran for one as well, so
he counted for six of the touchdowns this evening all
(52:39):
Ostapo with an historic game tonight as the Huskies win
seventy to thirty five. So with the win, foresails Northern
Moose to four and five, their season is going to
be done, and all likely it's same with Norfew unfortunately
as they go fall to five and four despite looking
pretty sharp through the passing game outside of a few
drop balls because of the cold weather. So that is
(53:00):
the season for the Huskies, and what a game it
was tonight. Reporting from Northview High School for the final
time this season. This is Michigan Sports Radio's Jeff Dohm.
Speaker 1 (53:10):
All Right, thanks, thank you, Tess, Thank you, Jeff oly On. Okay,
I can't hear anything, all right, any case, thanks John,
all right, it's on my end.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Well, instead of pay tonight, we're gonna get Jeff a
new calculator. But my gosh, four hundred and thirty yards
by Owen Ostipo. That's, as he said, one of the
top fifteen all time in MHSA history and certainly a
school record and absolutely one of the best in all
West Michigan time. They'll be totaling that up and checking
(53:42):
all the record books so check that out, don't forget.
