(00:04):
The wooden cricket. Hey there, and welcome back to
the Wooden Cricket Podcast family.
I'm so glad you're here today. We begin at the very beginning,
Genesis chapter one. This is more than just the start

(00:26):
of the Bible. It is the foundation for
everything, creation, purpose, order, light, life, the list
goes on. So let's take a breath.
Let's lean into the voice of God, the same voice that spoke
galaxies into motion, into existence, because that voice
still speaks today. Grab your coffee, sit down, get

(00:48):
comfy wherever you are. If it's the beginning of the
day, if it's the end of the year, the day.
Let's go through this together. I'm excited.
So let's begin Genesis chapter one, verse one out of the NLT.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the
deep waters, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the

(01:12):
surface of the waters. Then God said, let there be
light, and there was light, and God saw that the light was good.
Then he separated the light fromthe darkness.
God called the light day and thedarkness.
He called. Night and evening passed and
morning came, marking the first day.

(01:35):
In the beginning, before time, before matter, before anything,
there was God. And that can be hard to wrap
your head around. That can be hard to think about
because you have to try and takeyour thoughts and step outside
of time, which you cannot do. But you have to try and think on
that because that's where God was.
He was outside of everything andHe created everything.

(01:55):
He didn't build from materials, He just spoke, and the first act
of God was to bring light into the darkness.
That's not just creation. If you've heard me talk before,
there's a bit of a pattern there.
There's a promise there. In John chapter 8 verse 12,
Jesus says I am the light of theworld.

(02:17):
If you follow me, you won't haveto walk in darkness.
Jesus is the light that breaks into our chaos.
If you feel like your world is formless and empty or dark, know
that His Spirit is still hovering, waiting to speak life
and light into your soul. You have to come to Him.

(02:39):
You have to ask Jesus into your life.
Verse 6. Then God said, let there be a
space between the waters to separate the waters of the
heavens from the waters of the earth, and that is what
happened. God made this space to separate
the waters of the earth from thewaters of the heavens.

(03:00):
God called the space sky, and evening passed and morning came,
marking the second day. Then God said, let the waters
beneath the sky flow together into one place so the dry ground
may appear, and that is what happened.
God called the dry ground land and the waters seas, and God saw

(03:21):
that it was good. Then God said, let the land
sprout vegetation, every sort ofseed bearing plant and trees
that grow seed bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce
the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.
And that is what happened. The land produced vegetation,

(03:42):
all sorts of seed bearing plantsand trees with seed bearing
fruit. Their seeds produce plants and
trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good,
and everything passed, and morning came, marking the third
day. God brings order where there was

(04:03):
chaos. He makes space, He gathers.
He gives identity to land and sea.
He causes life to burst forth. You may feel like your life is
out of control, but this is the God who brings clarity from
confusion and looks at the seeds.

(04:26):
He doesn't just create plants, He creates life that can
reproduce. He designed things to grow.
When Jesus enters our life, he doesn't just patch us up, slap a
Band-Aid on and say go on, get out of here.
He plants something inside of us, something that grows.
And that growth is love and faith and hope and purpose.

(04:48):
And as it says in Philippians chapter one, verse 6, he who
began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.
If you've come to Jesus and you've asked him in your heart
and he started a good work in you, he is going to see that
through to the end, friend. He's not going to abandon you
halfway through verse 14. Then God said, let lights appear

(05:14):
in the sky to separate the day from the night.
Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days and years.
Let these lights shine down on Earth.
And that is what happened. God made 2 great lights, the
larger 1 to govern the day and the smaller 1 to govern the

(05:34):
night. He also made the stars.
God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern
the day and night, and to separate the light from the
darkness. And God saw that it was good,
and evening passed, and morning came, marking the 4th day.

(05:57):
God created time. He created rhythm and structure.
The sun and the moon aren't justsources of light, they are
markers of seasons. He's reminding us that life has
a rhythm. There's night and day, there are
highs and lows, but he governs both.
Jesus is not just with us in daylight moments.

(06:20):
Does that make sense? He governs the night too.
Even in our darkest seasons, in our worst moments, in the
darkest places that we find ourself, the stars are shining,
the light shines through. Jesus is there.
Verse 20 Then God said, let the waters swarm with fish and other

(06:40):
life, Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.
So God created great sea creatures in every living thing
that scurries and swarms in the water and every sort of bird,
each producing offspring of the same kind.
And God saw that it was good. Then God bless them, saying, be

(07:03):
fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and
the birds multiply on the earth. And a sorry.
An evening pass and morning came, marking the 5th day.
The Creator fills the earth withmovement and life and song.
God is a God of abundance. Notice again He blesses his

(07:27):
creation. Blessing isn't just something
God gives, it's part of His nature and in Jesus Christ we
receive that blessing. In Ephesians chapter 1 it says
All praise to God who has blessed us with every spiritual
blessing in the heavenly realms, because we are united with

(07:47):
Christ. 1st 24 Then God said, let the earth produce every sort
of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind,
livestock, small animals that squirrel on the ground, and wild
animals. And that is what happened.
God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock and small

(08:09):
animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind.
And God saw that it was good. Then God said, let us make human
beings in our image to be like us.
They will reign over the fish inthe sea, the birds in the sky,
the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the
small animals that scurry along the ground.

(08:32):
So God created human beings in his own image, in the image of
God. He created them, male and
female. He created them.
Then God blessed them and said be fruitful and multiply, fill
the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea,
the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along

(08:52):
the ground. Then God said, look, I have
given you every seed bearing plant throughout the earth and
all the fruit trees for your food.
And I have given every green plant as food for the wild
animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that
scurry along the ground, everything that has life.

(09:14):
And that is what happened. Then God looked over at all he
had made, and he saw that it wasvery good.
And evening passed, and morning came, marking the 6th day.
This is the climax. God says let us make humans in
our image, and a tree, not a star, not even an Angel gets

(09:37):
that honor. But you, you were made in his
image in John chapter 1, and I love this, we see that it was
through Jesus that all things were made.
Says in the beginning was the Word and the Word was God, and
the Word became flesh. Let me read that again.

(10:01):
This is in John chapter one. In the beginning was the word
God, right? That's God.
And the Word was God tells us right there.
And the Word became flesh. That's God becoming Jesus.
Jesus was there in Genesis 1. He's not just the Savior of your
soul, He's the author of your life.

(10:23):
You're not an accident, friend. You're not a random pile of
cells. You are a reflection of divine
creativity made with purpose andplaced in a world crafted by God
Himself. Hmm.
The same God who said let there be light is still speaking.
The same God who said it is verygood, looks at you with love and

(10:47):
grace and through Jesus Christ who came to restore what sin
broke, your identity, your purpose and your relationship
with God. It is very good.
Again Father, thank you for creating us in your image.
Thank you for the light, the order, the beauty and for the

(11:10):
blessings you give us through Jesus.
Help us walk today with purpose, knowing we were deeply loved and
divinely designed in Jesus name,Amen.
