The wooden cricket. What's up, family?
It's Lawrence. And welcome back to the Wooden
Cricket podcast. Happy Monday, a brand new week,
Your chances to shine for Jesus.Yeah, wherever you're listening,

(00:28):
from driving to work during thatfirst coffee or even out walking
the dog. I'm so pumped that you're here
today. In the last episode, we kicked
off our new series, Teachings ofJesus, looking at what Jesus
himself says about how we ought to live.
And today, well, this is a good one.

(00:49):
Jesus calls us 2 very important things.
Salt of the earth, Light of the world.
These words aren't casual. Jesus is telling us who we are
when we follow Him. So let's dive in.
Imagine Jesus sitting on the mountain side, the breeze moving

(01:11):
through the crowd, his discipleshanging on to every word.
In that moment, he begins speaking truth that still shapes
the world today. We find this in Matthew chapter
5, verses 13 through 16. This is what it says.
You are the salt of the earth, but what good is salt if it has

(01:33):
lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again?
It will be thrown out and trampled under foot as
worthless. You are the light of the world,
like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket.
Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand where it gives light to

(01:58):
everyone in the house. In the same way that your good
deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise
your Heavenly Father. Salt preserves.
Salt restores flavor. Salt makes what is bland come

(02:18):
back to life. Family.
That's where Jesus calls you scrubland.
Not forgettable, not a background extra.
You, through Jesus, bring life to those around you.

(02:38):
When love feels distant, when kindness is rare, when culture
feels bitter, Jesus sends us into season the world with grace
and truth. So where is Jesus asking you to
be salt this week? At work, at school?

(03:03):
At home, and if salt speaks to our impact, light speaks to our
identity. Jesus could have said you'll
bring a little light sometimes. Nope, he said.
You are the light of the world. That means you bring hope where

(03:29):
despair is loud. You carry peace where chaos
dominates. You reflect Jesus where darkness
tries to hide. This world desperately needs the
light of Christ, and Jesus choseyou to bear it.
What a privilege that is. So don't deem what God has lit,

(03:55):
Don't hide what He destined to shine.
Who can I bring the light of Jesus to?
This week is something you should be asking yourself.
And don't miss the ending of this passage.
Matthew chapter 5, verse 16. Let your good deeds shine out

(04:18):
for all to see so that everyone will praise your Heavenly
Father. It's not about applause for us,
it's about glory for Jesus. You aren't trying to become salt
and light. Jesus has already named you

(04:38):
that. When you walk into a room, light
walks in. Two hope walks in.
Jesus walks in through you. That's your identity, that's
your calling, that's your mission.
So live it. Loud, liver bright and live it

(05:01):
boldly in Jesus name. All right, family, this week go
be salty and the best way you can seize in your workplace with
love. Preserve peace in your family.
Add kindness into every conversation.
Ecopia. Bright Light shine Jesus on the

(05:24):
streets of your city. Reflect his character when no
one else does, and bring the good news into every dark corner
that you can, because when people see your light, they're
going to see Jesus. If you don't have a church home

While Jesus leads you to a community where you can serve
and grow. Stay salty, shine brightly, be a
bright light in a dark place. And you already know this has

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero.
