(00:04):
The wooden cricket. What's up family, It's Lawrence
and welcome back to the Wooden Cricket Podcast.
We are continuing our Teachings of Jesus series and today we're
(00:25):
talking about one of those heartlevel lessons that really hits
home. This one isn't flashy.
It's not loud, man, it's real. This is episode 119, Giving with
a pure heart, right up front. I want to be clear.
When Jesus talks about giving, he's not only talking about
(00:46):
money, He's talking about the giving of ourselves.
Yeah, our time, our attention, our service, our encouragement,
our presence, the kind of generosity that reflects the
heart of God. So wherever you are right now,
maybe you're sipping that morning coffee, or driving to
work, or walking in the cool airof the fall mornings.
(01:10):
Let's take a deep breath together and let's dive into
what Jesus says about true giving.
We'll start in Matthew chapter 6verses one to four.
Watch out, don't do your good deeds publicly to be admired by
others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in
Heaven when you give to someone in need.
(01:32):
Don't do as the hypocrites do, blowing trumpets in the
synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of
charity. I tell you the truth, they have
received all the reward they will ever get.
But when you give to someone in need, don't let your left hand
know what your right hand is doing.
Give your gifts in private and your Father, who sees everything
(01:55):
will reward you. Jesus wasn't condemning
generosity. No, He was correcting the
motives behind it. He's saying don't give to be
seen. Give because you've seen me.
You see the religious leaders back then, they loved the
attention. They loved the applause.
(02:17):
They wanted people to clap for their kindness, but Jesus flips
that whole culture on its head and says, hey, true giving is
done in secret when no one's watching.
Then there's no applause when it's just you and God and heart
that beats for compassion. Think about how God gives.
(02:43):
He doesn't do it for show. Every sunrise, every breath,
every act of grace, it's all done quietly, consistently, and
out of love. That's our example.
We give not to earn points, not to prove that we're good people,
(03:04):
but because he's been so good tous already.
And sometimes the best gifts aren't financial at all.
Sometimes it's showing up when someone's hurting.
It's checking on your friend that you haven't heard from in a
long time. It's volunteering your time.
It's praying for someone and meaning it that's giving with a
(03:27):
pure heart. 2nd Corinthians Chapter 9 verse 7 says you must
each decide in your heart how much to give, and don't give
reluctantly or in response to pressure, for God loves a person
who gives cheerfully. God loves a cheerful giver not
(03:51):
because of the amount, but because of the authenticity.
When you give from a place of peace, it reflects a heart
that's aligned with heaven. When you give your time to your
church, you're worshipping Jesus.
When you serve in your community, you're worshipping
(04:11):
Jesus. When you bless someone in need
with 0 strings attached, that isworshipping Jesus.
Because giving is not about whatleaves your hands.
No, it's about what's already filled your heart.
And when Jesus fills your heart, you want to give, not for credit
(04:34):
and not for gain, but simply because it's what love does.
And family, if you take anythingfrom today, take this Giving is
not about performance, it's about presence.
It's about loving like Jesus, quietly, faithfully, and with a
(04:58):
heart that shines in the dark. Let's be the kind of people who
serve with no audience, who lovewithout limits, who give without
expecting a return, because that's how the Father gives to
us every single day. And hey, if you don't have a
(05:23):
church home yet, check out Calgary Temple online this
Sunday while you're searching for your community.
Because there's something incredibly special about being
part of the family of God and sharing and worshiping together.
Until next time, keep showing upwith a generous heart.
(05:43):
Keep trusting in Jesus. Remember, be a bright light in a
dark place. Until tomorrow, I'm out.
Peace.
