The wooden cricket. Welcome back to the Wooden
Cricket podcast. I'm Lawrence.
This space is where we lift up the name of Jesus, where we let
his words hit deeper than headlines, and where the
(00:27):
parables still speak louder thannoise.
And today, Jesus drops one of the shortest, yet simplest and
most powerful stories in the whole Bible.
A story about value, pursuit, and the joy of finding what's
truly worth everything. It's called The Hidden Treasure,
(00:51):
and you can turn with me to Matthew chapter 13, verse 44.
That's going to be it. The Kingdom of Heaven is like a
treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field.
In his excitement, he hit it again and sold everything he
owned to get enough money to buythe field.
That's it. A man's out working in the field
(01:13):
one day, not his field. It's probably hired help.
He's turning over dirt, sweating, grinding, doing the
everyday thing, and out of nowhere, pink his shovel hit
something solid, brushes off thedirt and realized this isn't
just a rock. It's treasure hidden, forgotten,
(01:37):
varied. And in that moment everything
changes, you see, Because when you discover something
priceless, everything else kind of starts to look cheap.
And that's what Jesus is saying here.
When you really encounter him, when you really encounter Jesus,
(01:58):
when you see his worth, His presence, his forgiveness, his
power, you start to realize thatthe world's riches, they're just
fools gold the entire time. Some of us that grew up in the
90s, we knew about, you know, wanting things.
(02:20):
We chased Air Jordans shoes and Pokémon cards and the next big
mix tape and and we thought thathaving meant winning.
But Jesus flips it, he says. Real treasure is found when you
lose everything. For me, let's talk about the
field, because this guy doesn't just take the treasure and run,
(02:44):
he goes and buys the field. He invests everything he has to
claim it the right way. That's surrender, that's
ownership, That's saying, Jesus, you're not just an accessory,
you're the whole main thing. He didn't half weigh it.
(03:05):
He went all in, and maybe that'swhere Jesus is whispering to you
right now. Go all in.
Stop sampling Christianity. Live it, Stop renting faith.
Own it. So what you need to sell?
Lay down what's holding you backby the day in the field.
(03:27):
Because the treasure is worth it.
Jesus is worth it. As we move closer to Christmas,
closer to that hidden treasure of heaven itself, the baby in a
Manger, wrapped in cloth, laid in a feeding trough.
(03:48):
Barely anybody saw treasure thatnight.
Just a poor couple and a barn. But heaven saw it.
The angels saw it, those wise men saw it.
Some shepherds saw it, and everyperson who has since found Jesus
knows. The real treasure is never
(04:08):
obvious at first glance. It's hidden, but it's worth
everything, and it's Jesus. So maybe today you're standing
in your own field. You've been grinding, hustling,
praying, searching, and maybe you've stumbled onto that
(04:28):
treasure. Maybe you felt his presence.
You've glimpsed at his goodness, but maybe fear comforts got you
hesitating. I'm telling you, friends, do not
walk away. Sell what needs to be sold in
your life. Forgive who needs forgiving in
(04:50):
your life. Drop what is weighing you down.
You're in your life. Go by the field.
Because when you give your all to Jesus, when you give Him your
best, when you give Him your everything, He gives you back
far more than you ever dreamed of.
And if you're looking for a place to grow deeper, to learn,
(05:10):
to serve, to worship Calvary Temple, Winnipeg is a good place
to start. And you can visit online every
Sunday. So let's keep digging for that
treasure of Jesus Together, family.
The world's selling distractions, but the Kingdom,
(05:31):
the Kingdom of Jesus, is giving out treasure.
Don't trade the eternal for the temporary.
Dig deep, go all in for Jesus. Find the joy in giving
everything to Him, because when you do, He turns your dirt into
(05:54):
a pretty incredible destiny. Until tomorrow, friends, be a
bright light in a dark place. I'm out.
Peace.
