The construction on all these cigars was amazing.
Yeah, I never had an issue with construction burn.
They were perfect. So whoever's rolling these
cigars is doing a fantastic job.

>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (03:16):
Oh, Segundo Viendo. Fancy for the Sun Must come up
second chance. Uh, yeah, well that's, that's what
I said. Yeah. All right, well, good old boy Mike,
you want to go over the ratings?
>> (03:29):
We're going to go over these cigars and then have
our most valued opinions and then give our most
valued opinions.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (03:37):
And they are valued.
>> (03:38):
And we'll be rating these cigars on sip suds and
smokes using our 1 to 5 ratings, 5 being the best,
plus our signature sounds. Here is one of those
examples now, which is number three. I would smoke
this again.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (03:54):
So let me ask you on the value of our information
that we give out, uh, is that like the. We follow
the XRP standard.
>> (03:59):
That's the same dartboard methodology that you
follow for all of your key decision making.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (04:04):
Oh man, that means it's very valuable.
>> (04:06):
Yes, because all.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (04:07):
I mean, my whole dartboard is hundreds.
>> (04:09):
Do you, are you right handed and throw with your
left?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (04:11):
Well, I actually throw with my feet.
>> (04:15):
That would explain an awful lot. Yeah, I'm just,
you know, there's, there's some moment about this
that is just visually impairing.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (04:25):
Yeah, well just wait, you'll see it later because
I got a decision to make later.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: There you go.
Hey Rich, tell us about, uh, tell these, talk to
these newbies.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Well, if you're a cigar newbie, fret not. We got
you covered on our Cigar 101 episodes where all of
this cigar speak will be decoded. Just search for
sip suds, cigars 101 and that episode called Smell
my Foot right up or follow the links in our show
(04:48):
notes all.
Ah, right. Well, good old boy Mike.
>> (04:52):
Well, we had a chance to smoke all these cigars in
advance and most of us are going off the notes we
recorded at the time. Some of us will be using the
Mark the Barger dartboard methodology where we
might recall some of that information and
proportional to the dosage flowing through our
system at that particular moment, we're rocking.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (05:12):
At about 10 milligrams. Yeah, just a, just a nice
even kill here today.
>> (05:18):
Which button requires that?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (05:20):
Mhm. I wish to register a complete probably. So
there you go. Robert, you got a little bit of
background on him.
>> Speaker C (05:27):
M right. I get to read the background for
Fortalezi Libre.
>> (05:29):
Oh wait, we have background music here.
>> Speaker C (05:31):
Oh, background music. I get to read the background
for Fort Elyse Libre. I can handle big words, I
think, and not like Canadians. I know your first
inclination is yet another product from Santiago.
And yet it's not Tam Bril. In the Dominican
(05:52):
Republic region hosts some of the finest cigar
factories in the world built around the fields and
have served already messing up, built around the
fields that have grown tobacco for generations.
Farming is a science founded on love of the land.
And there's nowhere more evident than the fields
of Tamborial. It's the home of some of the iconic
brands in the Doctor, like El Artista Tobacco,
(06:17):
Rilla Valencia and La Palma.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (06:22):
I got Tobacco Lara, Placencia Tobacco Lara. Plus.
>> Speaker C (06:25):
Well, I added a comma. I added a comma.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (06:28):
The English is hard.
>> Speaker C (06:29):
It can be. You won't find a Chagui Primovano
outside of the Doctor. We wish.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (06:40):
I would have butchered that, too.
>> Speaker C (06:42):
It is Chaguy, though. In 19, uh, in 2017, Fort
Lisa Libre selected El Hoyito in the Dominican
Republic, a tributary to the brands that make it
all. I can't even read that tributary. Another
brand made. We're going to do that a bit again.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (07:01):
It's factory. We going to do it again? Yeah,
negative.
>> (07:04):
Uh, Ghost Rider. The pattern is full, so onward we
go. The fact that you got 92% of those words
correct is that's scoring you way above average.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (07:14):
That's right.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I was going to say our average for this whole
podcast is just the.
>> (07:19):
Fact that you, you know, almost out of your mouth
without injuring yourself was a good start.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (07:25):
Step in the right direction. I'll tell you what
we're going to do. Let's just jump right into
this. Rich, take us away with the avalanche.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I'll make Robert, uh, look good here.
That's.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: The avalanche. Was the.
>> Speaker C (07:38):
Hang on a second.
>> (07:38):
Pass me the duct tape.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (07:39):
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: So this was the eighth blend, uh, for De Lisa
Libre released. You might think we would go in
order of when the product was released or
alphabetically or maybe the phase of the moon. But
remember, we are using the Barger Dartmoor
methodology.
That's right.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: It uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over
(08:00):
Dominican binder and fillers from the doctor,
obviously. The company says it took 18 months to
develop this blend, which it describes as not yet.
Well, not yet, which it describes as mild in both
body and strength. It is made at the, uh,
Tabaracaro, uh, Bacalero Tobacco, Lero El Hoya
(08:24):
Hoyita in Tamboril, Dominican Republic. The slight
pepper from the wrapper highlights the beauty of
the Dominican filler and binder taking you places
you would not expect from your grandfather's
Connecticut.
Well, I didn't find Grandpa. Maybe his ashes were
in this one. I don't know. Uh, but, uh, I
(08:47):
definitely didn't find Grandpa. Oh.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, well, I, I was.
Which Color was this label?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: This is the white label.
The white. Oh yeah, the white label. Yeah. See I
smoked that for breakfast this morning.
>> Announcer (08:56):
Did you?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (08:58):
A little bit of it, yeah.
>> (09:00):
You know, do you use your right hand or your left
hand?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (09:03):
I use my right hand this time. I just have, uh.
Here's, here's. Here's what I think. So, uh, we're
going to touch on this a little later. You know,
newer companies put out cigars. It's hard to get
it right every time. Right. They didn't get it
(09:24):
right with this one.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: No.
I don't like this Connecticut. That's just, just
me. I just. It was too dirty. It was like too much
must. It didn't have that like Connecticut mouth
feel that you want know? It was like. It was like
smoking a dried ah. Dirt.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, you got a lot more out of it than I did. I
found it very bland, mild way. It was very mild.
(09:49):
Um, positive. I mean the construction was okay.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I think his construction, his rollers, his
blenders, they got good construction. Construction
issue, did not have a burn issue with it. Um, but
I just did not find it very.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You know, especially for Connecticut.
Robert, what'd you think?
>> Speaker C (10:07):
I kind of found it unmemorable.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (10:09):
Yeah.
>> Speaker C (10:10):
Um, I even paired it with a coffee. I thought that
would go great. And um, it wasn't bad.
>> (10:14):
Somehow I don't think that was the word they were
looking for in the marketing meeting. No, let's go
for unmemorable.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (10:21):
Yeah. It's just your grandpa's Connecticut.
>> (10:24):
Yeah, that's correct.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (10:25):
Yeah. Well, they nailed it with that one. What,
what are we thinking here? We'll give it a two.
Yep. Now again, starting a company is hard.
They're 2017 and they've had some ups and downs
themselves, right?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, they've had some struggles.
We've had some struggles name wise and had to
(10:46):
rebrand a couple times that. We'll talk about that
later too. Um, but all in all, we'll be back
shortly.
>> Julianna (11:04):
Rolling clouds and crashing surf Iridescent dunes
reflecting by the line of the rising glowing moon.
Seashore mesmerizing night breeze hypnotizing
(11:25):
We've come across these back roads none too soon
look to the left, to the right Keep your eyes on
the road, my darling Wondering if we're only
passing through. Open roads and open windows My
(11:52):
hand is yours forever sweet love our eyes.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (11:56):
Ahead on these back roads hey, welcome back from
those commercials. Buy whatever they're asking you
to buy because I'm sure it's important.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, just spend all your money on it.
We just went over the avalanche. We gave it the
sip suds rating of, uh, 2. Uh, and we just
realized that Rich brought his reading glasses
(12:16):
today. Oh, man. It's a different world. Grandpa's
got his readers. All right, well, uh, let's go,
Mike. Tell us about the Sun Country.
>> (12:26):
So, uh, the sun country is handmade in the
Dominican Republic at Tobacco El Horta. Uh, these
cigars can incorporate well aged Dominican pilato
Cubano in liguero or the double filler and binder
with age Mexican San Andreas wrapper leaf blended
into the filler for a little something something
(12:48):
something special.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (12:50):
Yeah.
>> (12:50):
This full body core is then wrapped in a creamy
Ecuadorian slay shade wrapper according like a,
uh, dichika on the side of the roll, uh, to
create, um, a balance of flavors that has been
experienced as no words can truly capture what we
have done here.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:08):
Well, we're gonna try.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Well, I got a couple words. I wrote a couple
words.
>> (13:13):
It's an unmemorable.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:15):
So named after.
>> (13:16):
Named after a badass bull. Wait a second.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:19):
I got.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Oh, nice.
>> (13:21):
That's right. Sorry.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: That was the chili.
It was called sun country will definitely brighten
your day.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:29):
Now, I do want to mention a cool aspect, though.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
All of these names of the cigars that he uses are
famous bulls that have been ridden by people. And
now let me tell you about them. So really, when
you Kind of.
>> (13:50):
The sound that I made while I was enjoying your
Sun Country.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (13:53):
Yeah. Uh, I, uh, I really. When you were starting
to read that part about the. The tobacco. Lara. I
read that in, like, a Japanese voice. It was like,
oh, cool. I was like, I don't remember Japan ever
making cigarettes. But anyway. Well, I digress.
>> (14:09):
Japanese and Spanish accents, you know, M for
sure.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Especially in Robertson County.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (14:15):
That's right. For sure.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, that's right.
So what'd you think about the Sun Country, Robert?
So this.
>> Speaker C (14:21):
I've had the sun country before. Uh, when it first
came out, I really liked it back then. I thought
it was a very unique Connecticut this time around.
I don't know if my taste buds are changing. It's a
little bit less. You're getting older body. I am.
Taste buds are dying. It m. Was still enjoyable.
>> (14:37):
But wait a second. Are you saying at my advanced
stage, they're just dead as rough?
>> Speaker C (14:43):
You have no taste buds at this point.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (14:44):
Have you listened to your opinions?
>> (14:45):
Oh, my gosh.
>> Speaker C (14:47):
Needs more pepper and salt.
>> (14:49):
No more chili for you.
>> Speaker C (14:52):
I actually enjoyed this.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (14:54):
This cigar, so I didn't hate this cigar. I. I
didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite. Well,
I'll tell you that.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You know, I. I felt it was super light. I mean,
this, to me, is just as light as any Connecticut
out there. Um, I think, you know, he talks about
it being very balanced, flavorful, and this, that
and the other, but, you know, um, but it wasn't.
You're talking about the bull or the cigar. Yes.
(15:19):
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: We can talk some bull.
Yeah. Uh, you know, I found it to be. It had a
little bit of musk to it, a little bit of pepper.
Wasn't terrible. Um, I definitely. It's like
almost something you would walk a dog with.
>> (15:35):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (15:35):
Mow the yard. Something you don't have to pay
attention to. Construction was great.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yep.
Still, again, didn't have a construction issue,
you know. Mike, what are you going to pull out of
your butt today?
>> (15:45):
Well, you know, I think the one thing that across
this whole product line is the common filler and
binder that they're using is just. I, uh, I just
don't like the. That combo. And I think that's
what everybody is picking up on is even as they're
moving towards, you know, different external
wrappers or sizes or shapes.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (16:07):
Sure.
>> (16:07):
That, you know, that combo that they have for
their filler is just. I don't know.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (16:11):
There's. I do like his size as preferences,
though. He's between a, uh, 52 and a 55 now.
>> (16:18):
Oh, wait a second.
>> Mike (16:26):
Hi, I'm Kristen with Dancewear Solutions. Today
we're going to be demonstrating how to measure
girth. Girth is a very important measurement when
determining sizes. First, take your tape measure.
Place it at the center of the shoulder.
>> (16:38):
Oh, yeah.
>> Mike (16:39):
Bring it down through the crotch.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (16:41):
Oh, yeah, yeah.
>> (16:42):
This is a good part.
>> Mike (16:45):
M. Making sure it's going over the widest part.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (16:47):
Yeah. Uh, of your ass. All right, well, what are
we gonna give that, folks? We'll give that one a
three. I get the pleasure of discussing. This is
probably the cigar that I like the most in the
lineup. The Midnight Bender. The midnight binder.
(17:15):
It is, uh, handmade in Dominican Republic at, ah,
Tobacco Lea de Joyeto. Yeah. These cigars
incorporated. Well, aged Dominican Piloto, Cubano
and Ligero filler and binder with an aged Mexican
San Andreas wrapper working towards the strongest
flavor profile yet. A, uh, San Andreas has to be
(17:36):
the highlight. They use the same Dominican binder
found in our Bushwhacker line, which we'll talk
about in a minute, but added the extra firepower
that comes with the double. The Harrow blend named
after the son of Bodacious, a famous bull. These
cigars are definitely strong and free. Now I will
(17:57):
say this. I did not get the Ligero in this. I got
the San Andreas and I think that was its saving
grace. Um, I think that the blend was good, but it
wasn't anything to like write home about. It was a
good, like if, as far as. If I was. Owned this
(18:20):
company and was making a core line, that would be
the staple. You know, I would start there. I would
start there. We get a little excited over here.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yes.
Uh, I would start and then I would, I would
progress.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah. So do you feel like the age. Like, are these
(18:42):
more aged than the others? Because I felt like an
age would help some of these.
Well, so there comes a time when you're aging a
cigar or a leaf. You've got the best point of
prime, right. M. And then it just starts to taper
off after then. And so a lot of the aged, like,
(19:03):
you'll find, um. Who's a good example? Um, so, uh,
throw a dart. Yeah. Leo. Yeah. With, uh, uh, Nova.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
You know, she, uh. Most of her tobacco is 10 year
plus age right before it's even rolled. Yeah. And
you can tell that it's at that point where it's
(19:24):
gonna be. They blend well, they taste well, they
retain moisture. And it's not dry.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Right.
You know, and, and when you get to that area,
that's your sweet spot. Right. And it just seems
like some of this line that he, that Robert here
has, uh, is just a little past its point and it's.
(19:44):
They're really dry.
>> (19:46):
I think that, I think that's a common production
problem that you have is, is that when you don't
own the factory.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (19:53):
Right.
>> (19:53):
Is that if your products are not aging as you want
your. Look, your window is coming up to
manufacture your cigars and it's go time. If those
San Andreas, you know, wrappers are not ready to
go, I don't care. We're still running your run
during this production window.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (20:11):
It's on the schedule.
>> (20:12):
Yeah, exactly. And so I think that that may have
been what is catching up with them. Um, yeah,
yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (20:19):
Especially because if he runs in smaller batches
too, you know, depending on the size of the, the
product he buys at a certain time, that could also
determine, you know, the primings that he gets.
Um, but yeah. So all in all, this is my favorite
one in the lineup. I will say that. And, uh, what
are we gonna give it here? We'll give it a four
(20:42):
and we'll be right back. Magnificent.
>> Julianna (20:53):
Rolling clouds and crashing surf Iridescent dunes
reflecting by the light of the rising glowing
moon. Seashore mesmerizing night breeze
(21:14):
hypnotizing We've come across these back roads
none too soon look to the left, to the right Keep
your eyes on the road, my darling Wondering if
we're only passing through. Open roads and open
(21:41):
windows My hand is yours forever sweet love Our
eyes are hid on these back roads.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (21:50):
Uh, Rich.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
We're gonna ask you about this Intimidator.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You know, I wanted to have a cooler stage name
like the Intimidator.
Chippendales.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yes.
Beat the Holy Grail. You can see, uh, Rich over
here at Chippendales on Tuesdays and Thursdays and
twice on Sundays.
(22:10):
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Uh, the Intimidator is made with a Mexican San
Andreas wrapper, covered, covering a Dominican
grown binder and filler. They wanted to go big
with this one.
Full, Full, full.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: With full flavor and full strength. You guys
feeling intimidated yet? Uh, you should, since
it's named after the famous bucking bull called
(22:31):
the Intimidator.
Well, uh, let me just stop you right there, sir,
because there's only one Intimidator, and his
name's Earnhardt. Okay.
>> Speaker C (22:40):
And it's actually the Intimidor.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Intimidor, yes. Excuse.
>> (22:45):
Are we gonna be rating this?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (22:46):
That's a three. No, not yet. We might be just off
principle.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, but so, yeah, not very intimidating, be
honest with you.
Yeah.
>> (22:56):
Again, when I was having this cigar, I felt like I
was turning left all day long.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (23:01):
Oh, I hope so. Oh, man. Left turns all day. Uh,
raise hell and praise Dale. All right, so this. So
again, this cigar is like, uh, it's just a. Yeah,
(23:21):
it was just bland. Yeah. Like, I felt that. I
don't know, other than crap, what that'd be full
of. Um, and I'm not saying it's crap. Don't tell.
That's a joke, folks. Don't take it hard. But,
like, honestly, like, I did not get a full bodied.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: No, not at all.
Cigar in the bunch.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: And, you know, part of this may be the
expectations, Right? Like, if you're selling
(23:43):
something that's going to be bold. That's supposed
to be bold.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Make it bold. You know, I found this one very.
So I would chalk that up to, like, 50% marketing.
Yeah. 50%, uh, of their taste buds. Because again,
as we state in Cigar 101, taste is subjective.
Right.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: True.
So what's full for somebody might be mild or light
(24:05):
for us, as we'll smoke double, triple the arrows
and take them to the dome. And. Yeah. Love it. You
know, there's your spice bomb. Um, but again, I
will give it to him. The use of that San Andreas
wrapper.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
You know, it covers a multitude of. Of bad things,
but, man, I struggled with it.
(24:25):
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
And what sucks. What sucks for me is like, we did
an interview with Robert.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Just not Robert.
Not great guy. What was his name?
>> Announcer (24:33):
Greg.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (24:33):
Greg. I, uh, said Robert earlier.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Greg Free.
I was thinking about Rob.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Greg's a great guy.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Check him out.
>> (24:39):
We did a absolutely wonderful guy's better looking
cousin.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (24:43):
Yeah. I mean, absolutely. Just wonderful. Had a
nice conversation with him. Gave us the cigars.
We've let them age. You know, they've been aging
for six months in our humidor before we do this
show.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
All around. Just helpful. Just was like, man, I'm
just happy to be here. Thank you guys for doing
this.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah. And, you know, this guy, he is passionate
about, you know, Uh, I mean, his story is, is, you
(25:05):
know, he wanted to get into this industry because
of his love for cigars. He started, you know. What
did he say? Sitting out in his garage.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: By himself, enjoying cigars. And just said, you
know, I want to get into this.
So I think our interviews up on our Instagram, it
is.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, look it up. Um, I think he. Would you say
2017.
(25:26):
2017.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I feel like he has got some, uh, room to grow.
Oh, absolutely.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: And I think with his passion, he'll get there.
I think he has a bright future for sure. Um, I
just, I hope that. I hope that the complexity
starts to hit for him in his cigar blending or
(25:47):
whatever factory he's using.
>> (25:48):
I have, like this whole scene playing through my
head of Barger sitting in his garage, you know,
staring in a stripper pole and going, you know,
this is just not going to work effectively.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (25:58):
Well, it's hard to add it when you're on it.
>> (26:00):
I'm staring at that pole and I'm really thinking,
this is something I want to pursue in my life.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:05):
You know, I just couldn't find hills to fit my
double wide foot. Got these hobbit feet. Can't put
them in heels.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Kinky boots.
That's right.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Kinky boots, baby.
>> (26:16):
Why does it smell like pina colada in here?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:18):
Is that latex m?
>> Speaker C (26:20):
The smell of fake coconut?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (26:22):
That's right. That's right. But okay, so what are
we gonna give this intimidator here? We'll give it
a three. Room for improvement. Room for
improvement. All right, so about this Lineup,
guys. First of all, Greg, thank you for. For
giving us the product to try and, uh. I hope you
(26:44):
don't take our insults to heart, because we're
just having a blast.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Couple of. Just a few rednecks.
Just a few rednecks in a garage here with a
stripper pole. Uh, Mike, get off the pole. Um,
anyway, so what do you think, Robert? Tell me some
thoughts.
>> Speaker C (26:58):
So I would say, as far as the whole line that
we've got to smoke. I would smoke them again.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (27:03):
Yeah. I'd give them a try again. Yeah.
>> Speaker C (27:05):
I didn't hate any of them. I enjoyed them. Uh, I
actually like the Intimidator. I thought it was a
good. Because it was that medium. Medium full, and
it kind of hit, I think, what he's going for. Um,
I didn't have a problem with that because I love
San Andreas. You could put San Andreas.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I like the San Andreas. I definitely like the San
Andreas.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (27:24):
Absolutely love.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: For sure. Yeah. 100%.
>> Speaker C (27:27):
You could wrap San Andreas on a tire, and I'd
smoke it. And I mean, I love.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (27:32):
I mean, we may have.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Well, and I have to say, this. This.
This.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: This whole, uh, you know, smoking these was, uh.
It was a challenge. Not. Not because of the
cigars, but because we are in Nashville, and we
just experienced this, you know, ice storm of the
century.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: And I don't smoke inside my house.
(27:52):
Yeah, well, we're gonna talk about that.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yep. So, you know, it was, uh. It was a challenge
to find, uh, you know, the place. Yeah. Yeah. So
I. I actually set up a heater when those, uh,
propane, um, heaters. A little tent and had my
little smoke shack out back.
(28:12):
Set up your hunting blind with your little buddy
heater. Oh, I should have, uh. Hey, man. Missed
opportunities. You should call me.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: There you go. But, um, so, yeah, you know, so part
of it is, is that, you know, it's really got to
keep my attention to get through it.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You know, um, when you're kind of going through
(28:33):
those sort of struggles, I just.
So for me, like, this lineup, uh, it. There was
off the light. It was a. It was decent. Right. But
it never changed, and it never got complex. It
just kind of stayed the same all the way through.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, I'd agree with that.
You know, and it was just like, okay, when's this
cigar gonna change? What's next? What's in it?
(28:55):
Like, yeah, when is that flavor gonna open up?
When is that pepper gonna hit? When is that? Uh,
you know, and it just never happened for me.
Right. Which was sad. It Was sad. I cried a little
bit.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Did you?
I really had high hopes.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah. You said that this, that, uh, Greg has
struggled a bit with his, um, getting this company
started.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: What was those struggles?
>> Speaker C (29:17):
He had a naming issue that he had to contend with.
Um, cause for confusion claims.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Okay.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:23):
Yeah.
>> Speaker C (29:24):
You know, and so. And then he had, um, a logo
issue, I think, that he had to work on.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:28):
Gosh, everybody in the industry wants to be the
only one. Yeah. Right. You know, that's the.
That's the sad part is that a lot of these bigger
companies, if they have a name in their title or a
word, and you put that word in yours, well, here
come the lawyers.
>> (29:42):
I love me some lawyer issues.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:44):
Do you? Tell me how much you like lawyer issues,
Mike.
>> (29:47):
Hang on a second. Let me, uh, figure out. Am I
billing you for this?
>> Speaker C (29:52):
Bucks an hour?
>> (29:54):
A lot more than that.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Bought that car out there, I'm sure.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (29:58):
Yeah, that's right.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Lawyer issues.
>> (29:59):
Yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (30:00):
Get to Bentley later.
>> (30:01):
All right, so. Yep. I'm telling you, you can't
use, uh, even Mexican words that are similar, the
same. You're going to have a big problem.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (30:09):
That's right. That's right. My duolingo.
>> (30:12):
Dos sekis and dos secis.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (30:14):
That's right.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Oh, yeah.
I'll say this. I. I will smoke. And I would
purchase the midnight bender. I. I would go out
and try them again, for sure. Uh, and the
Intimidator. Is that right?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Intimidator.
>> Speaker C (30:30):
You got it.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (30:30):
Close. What? What is it?
>> Speaker C (30:32):
Intimidor.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Intimidator.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (30:34):
Intimidator. Where's. I mean, Intimidor? Yeah,
this is English with Steve, uh, Perry here. Happy
to be here. Yeah. All right, so tell us about this
ice storm. It's fine. Let's talk about this ice
storm here. Yeah, you lost power, right?
(30:55):
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, I was out of power for about three and a
half days. Yeah, we were stuck in the hill.
What'd you learn?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Stuck on Turkey Ridge? Well, I learned that, um,
you know, having a wood burning fireplace is nice,
but, um, if you have a big room that it's in that
it doesn't really help. So we set up a actual,
like a soccer mom tent in our living room and put
(31:17):
walls around it. And that's where we hung out for
about three days.
Little 10 by 10 pop up.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Little 10 by 10 pop up.
Sure.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Had the pets and the wife and everybody.
There you go, Robert. Did you fare well?
>> Speaker C (31:28):
Didn't lose water, uh, power. Aqua town at all.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (31:30):
It was great. You lost water, though, right?
>> Speaker C (31:32):
Lost water?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (31:33):
Yeah, that got frozen just like our opinion.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: You're in Watertown.
>> Speaker C (31:36):
Right.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (31:36):
We'll be right back.
>> Julianna (31:43):
Rolling clouds and crashing surf Iridescent dunes
reflecting by the light of a rising glowing moon.
Seashore mesmerizing night breeze hypnotizing
(32:05):
We've come across these back roads none too soon
look to the left, to the right Keep your eyes on
the road, my darling Wondering if we're only
passing. Open roads and open windows My hand is
(32:33):
yours forever uh.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (32:40):
And we're back from the commercials. Listen,
we've, we've went off on some tangents here just a
little bit, but there's one more cigar we're going
to go over and Rich is going to tell us about it
right now.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: It's the Segundo, uh, Viento, which stands for
second wind.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: So, um, this is, it's a Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.
Double Lego medium body strength Dominican Legero
(33:03):
age filler binder. This is a solid medium body
experience, exposing the deeper aromas of wood and
earth combined with a subtle splash of nuttiness
and grass. This blend also changes distinctly the
thirds with each size in the line, uh, exposing
different nuances as they burn.
(33:25):
What color was that wrapper?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: This was the black wrapper.
>> Speaker C (33:29):
Black and gold.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (33:30):
Black and gold, yeah.
>> Speaker C (33:31):
It was the box press.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yes.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (33:33):
So I actually somewhat enjoyed this cigar.
>> (33:42):
How many people believe that? He actually didn't
write down one, one bit of notes around this.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (33:47):
Let me, let me look at my notes. Look at your
notes. Look at my notes here.
>> (33:50):
Yeah, yeah. This was a, like, pretty solid medium
of us. Medium.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Write down things, sort of medium cigar, I guess.
Um, I, you know, I found it, uh, good.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (34:02):
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Had a good burn again, rolled well. It was smooth
and rich. I, I, I find it like an anytime cigar.
Yeah.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Could, could smoke in the morning. Could smoke it
whenever. Probably a good dog walker.
Yeah. Um, so the pepper, a little bit of pepper
aspect come out in this one. A little bit with
that Lahara. And it wasn't terrible.
>> Speaker C (34:21):
That's the one time I got it.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (34:22):
Yeah. Yeah. And so, uh, um, I don't know if it had
to do with the box press part of it or, or how
they rolled it, but you were able to get a little
bit of that pepper out there.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
And so for me, it was okay. You know, um, there's,
there's a lot of things we smoke. Well, there's a
lot of things I smoke. There's a lot of things y'
(34:43):
all smoke. But, but you learn that there's certain
things you like.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
You know, and it's hard when you get things that
people are passionate about and they enjoy and
they're just like, I just don't enjoy that.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, right.
You know, and I think that's what, you know, this
is a good lesson in that is. Is finding brands
like this that, you know, we might not like it,
(35:05):
but somebody might love it.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
>> (35:06):
You know, so that loving feeling coming on.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (35:09):
That's right. That's right. So what do you, what
do you guys want to give that guy right away?
>> Speaker C (35:14):
Right away.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (35:15):
We'll give that one a three across the board.
Yeah, that's good. I like that.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah, I'd smoke most of these. I think I would
smoke again. You know, um, it may not be the first
one I reach for, depending on my mood, but
definitely give it a second.
>> (35:29):
I'm thinking this would be a lineup that I would
like to come back and revisit like five years from
now. You know, um, it seems like there is some
transition between what they started, where
they're at right now, and where they want to go.
And I think that's probably where I would be, is I
really would like to see how has this evolved, you
(35:51):
know, about five years from now.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (35:52):
Yeah, I think that giving a weight into it, see
what they come up with is going to be really good
too. I mean, because the more, the more he has
time in the industry, the more that tastes
progress and you know, you might get. Get into
some better tobaccos and another tobacco. Lara,
you know, you might even. He might even leave the
tobacco he's with and go with someone else that
offers a different flavor.
(36:13):
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: So he said this is a one farm. Um, the, the. All
the tobacco comes from the single farm.
From the single farm.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: So, you know, maybe blending it out.
>> (36:26):
I think, uh, I think uh, maybe, uh, not hugging
that one farmer all the way into the ground, you
know, would, would.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (36:33):
Well, it does work for some like. It does. I
agree.
>> (36:37):
You know, for. There are a lot of really great
estate brands all day long. Uh, but, you know,
some of those estates have been around for 20 plus
years and, you know, the quality of their
manufacturing as well as their growing techniques,
you know, has played really well. But, you know,
you go back to some of those, you know, estate
farms in their first five years and it's like.
(36:58):
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (37:00):
Well, I haven't really had much that came out of
this tobacco layer. So. Have you guys noticed any,
anything? What was your consistency about this
cigar? Tell me about the consistency.
>> Speaker C (37:10):
So for me, I'll say this and the construction of
all these Cigars was amazing.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah.
I never had an issue with construction burn. It
was, they were perfect. So whoever's rolling these
cigars is doing a fantastic job.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Agreed.
I also think if the word maduro scares you and
you're looking for something that's medium, this
(37:32):
might be a brand for you. I, I think it's a solid
brand for somebody who likes a good mild cigar.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (37:37):
Yeah, yeah, I, I would agree with that. I think
that someone that likes a mild to no flavor, it's
gonna be good. It's gonna be great. I'm kidding.
>> Speaker C (37:51):
Charlie Brown me.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (37:52):
Lucy, you think he's just, I think.
>> (37:55):
He'S just testing to see if we're all awake.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (37:57):
He pulled the football out there.
>> (37:58):
Hey, uh, Harry, you got that, uh, no flavor cigar
back there?
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Yeah. What you got, what you got back here in the
back?
Is that the 18 sticks or the 16 stick?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (38:10):
Here we go. On price point.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: There you go.
That's a good price point.
>> Announcer (38:14):
What is the msi?
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (38:14):
Uh, I didn't even actually look up the price point
for these because he never sent us that
information. Yeah. But I would say if you're
around.
>> (38:20):
They were like 10 to 15.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (38:22):
Yeah, I was gonna say if you're around 8 to 12,
you're probably in a decent, decent market for
that. But if you're getting up to 15 and I'm, I'm
out. That's just me though.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: But cheap.
I'm cheap. I'm cheap. I'll buy a five dollar cigar
all day long. Yep.
>> (38:37):
It would be interesting. Um, you know, I don't
know if you guys have had some of the other brands
that are being made at that factory. And um,
because I don't think that there were any
construction issues that, you know, across what we
were having here, it was, I think most of the
issues were, uh, the quality of tobacco and the
blending.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (38:57):
The blending.
>> (38:58):
It is the blending 100% that we encountered here
that had, uh, some, some challenges, you know,
around it. So I'd be curious, you know, with some
of the other brands, you know, that are right
there at the same factory, if they're sourcing
from other than the one farmer that. I really
wonder if that would be a bit of a. Hey, why are
your sticks so much better? And we're using the
(39:20):
exact same manufacturing facility.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:22):
Right.
>> (39:22):
You know, kind of thought process.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:23):
Right, right, right. So what about pairings? What
do you guys do with pairings? I know Rich probably
did coffee.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I did coffee. I did tea.
>> (39:31):
Uh, really cold weather.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Lots of cold weather.
Tone of propane.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:36):
Some had Some ice with it. What about you?
>> Speaker C (39:39):
I paired with, uh, coffee and water primarily with
the second, uh, win. I did whiskey on that one.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (39:45):
But yeah, I will say I had coffee this morning
with the Connecticut and, and made the. You know,
the coffee was good and the cigar was okay. But
yeah, you know, I think if I would have put coffee
with the Midnight Bender, it probably would have
brought some more of those flavors out of that
cigar that I was wanting, you know, that I think
I'll get because I'll smoke it again for sure. But
(40:08):
anyway, about this weather. It is madhouse out
here.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: I'm just glad it's over the field.
That I work in. I've been about 80 hours this week
and I'm tired.
>> Speaker C (40:18):
It's been so cold outside I had to take my jacket
off when I got inside.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:22):
Oh, wow, that's cold. That is cold. But listen, I
do want to thank you guys for being here today.
Robert, thank you for being here in this episode.
Is this your first one? How'd it feel?
>> Speaker C (40:34):
Uh, a little nerve wracking.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:35):
Yeah.
>> Speaker C (40:36):
English is my second language, it seems.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:38):
Yeah, that's fine.
>> (40:40):
He mastered all the big words, you know, small
ones that get you, I'm telling you. You know, it's
the fact that you.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Got a little confidence, a little cocky. Next
thing you know, you're tripping over the.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:50):
That's right, that's right.
>> (40:51):
Uh, it's just that we have set the bar so high,
Robert, that you.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (40:55):
Just walked in, you just hit him in the face with
it.
>> (40:58):
See, the thing is, if you would realize where
Barger left the bar, you would, you would have
been fine.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (41:04):
It's horizontal.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: It's out on Old Hickory somewhere.
Good old boy Rich, thanks for being here today.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Always glad to be here.
Good old boy Mike. Thanks for the banter.
>> (41:14):
I, uh, fulfilled a purpose today and didn't
channel all of Benjamin's fine, upstanding
Robertson county, you know, out, uh, there in the
fold over there, you know where it's going to be a
4x4. It's going to run over a you them limbs and
then I was going to enjoy cigar.
>> Good ol’ Boy Barker (41:30):
Well, listen, Benjamin, get well soon out there,
buddy. Yep. And this is good old boy Barger
telling you to keep on smoking. And thanks for
listening. And if you're interested in any of our
back catalog, go online, check it out.
>> UnidentifiedGood ol’ Boy Benjamin+++ Benjamin
Good ol’ Boy Bark: Check out.
We have a very extensive and our social media is
to our Instagram. Good. Uh, old boy Rich is, is
