Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from News Talks at be
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
This is Sports Fixed Howard by News Talks.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
It'd be hello there and welcome into a fresh episode
of the Sports Fox podcast. At is Thursday, October the third.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
I'm Jason Pine and I'm a stale Darcy Walter Grave.
But you can be as fresh as you want by
any Thanks for coming on board.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I'll try and add some freshness and verve and vermin,
vigor and other v words to this podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Who are we hearing from today? We're hearing from Andre Mikhaylovich,
who is on the cusp of picking himself up a
strap of world title. He is a thorocious character. He's
an angry man. That man can heat punch. So really
looking forward to that berg EVN coming up on Friday
night and we'll talk to him on the eve of

(01:00):
what may be well, something quite life changing for him
if he succeeds in Australia.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Looking forward to that number of issues to kick around
in the chamber, the big sports stories of the day
as well, So let's get into it. In other news,
Let's begin by looking at some of the big sports
stories around today. England have secured a first of Tiny
Jamison Netball Trophy series win since twenty twenty one.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
And England have won the Tiny Jamerson Trophy. They haven't
beaten New Zealand and Tora brah Arina and Body to
by four goals.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Here England winning fifty nine fifty five last night, the
Dead Rather Third Test and the Cargo on Sunday. A
New Zealand winner at the NRL's Annual Player Awards and.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Your Dallian winner of twenty twenty four is Jerome Hewes
from the Melbourne Storm.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Jerome Hughes holding out Rooster's captain James Tedesco by one
voting point to claim the Dally M and any Ospritannia
now just one went away from earning the right to
challenge Team New Zealand for the America's Cup. They beat
Leona Rossa in both races overnight. They lead six to
four in the best of thirteen Louis the Tom series,
but Luna ross helmsman Jimmy Spittle is confident they can

(02:13):
still emerge victorious.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Oh Credit and Force Wentz the boys cat parting the
whole way of the end.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
But yeah, just no mistakes.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
We'll come back out the next day swinging use.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
And a Vinion. It's Sportsfix with Jason Nine and Dusty Valdegrave.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
The Black Clash rightly or Wrongly has become one of
the go to events on the cricket Ish calendar. Next year,
Chris Gail is turning up from the West Indies. What
a name. Of course, there are all blacks, there are
former black Caps, all playing all on the name of fun,
which in essence is what sport is all about. We

(02:53):
can't put anything particularly heavy on the result of this.
In fact, ask me, I couldn't tell you who's won
over the last few years. I don't care. It's about
a day out in the sun, for your friends, for
your family, especially the kids. Having a look at guys
who have shed their responsibilities, and I no longer freaking
out about the result. They're going out there and they're

(03:15):
having fun. Of course, the big draw card is Chris Gale,
but for mine, the return of lou Vincent is particularly
touching and something I think most New Zealand sports fans
will embrace. Lou Vincent, of course, brought shame on himself
on his family on sport on the game of cricket
when he confessed to match fixing, and for that confession

(03:39):
he was handed eleven life bands in cricket, which was
manifestly unfair. One life ban. Surely, what are they going
to do bring him back from the dead? Ban him again?
Absolutely insane when you consider other characters who have been
match fixing have had bands that have been a whole
lot less, but that band was overturned the ic CECB,

(04:03):
n Z C or brought into this. You've paid your dues,
Lou Vincent, and he has. You can't ostracize the guy.
You've got to realize the importance of the example that
he has set and the road that has come back on.
He's paid for his sins. He's done a lot of
work in the community, He's done a lot of work

(04:24):
and other sports around the tyranny of match fixing. I
think he's done what he had to do and now
he gets to return to the game that gave him
so much, that he loved so much. Well done, Lou.
You're a bad man and you did a stupid thing,
but we all do and you shouldn't be punished for

(04:45):
your entire life for a poor decision as a young man.
All strength to your arm, my friend. Dissecting the sporting agenda.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
It's Sportsfix with Jason Vine and Darcy Waldgrave.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
We're joined in now by Andre Mikaylovitch, who was on
the verge of becoming a world champion. Massive scrap tomorrow. Andre,
Welcome to the show. We've been following you for a
while now. This is it after the false start about
a month ago. Wow, here we go again. You almost
can't believe it's actually happening after last time.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Man, it's been crazy. It's been a crazy few months
in my life. My life's pretty wild as it is.
But this is another day in paradise, real weight and now.
So I get to eat, I get to refuel, and
I'm happy as Larry Man, and I can't complain and
I can't wait for It's worry.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
You got through the way and fine. Yanamick did not
get through first time around, but he got there this time.
Was there a bit of trepidation around whether it actually
make weight?

Speaker 4 (05:45):
No, yes or no? But like at the end of
the day, like I can't control what the weather does. Man.
You can paint a pretty picture, but you can't predict
the weather, and that's is what it has been. I
can only really look after what I'm doing and what
I'm about. So that was that if he made way,
he made weight. If he didn't, he didn't. Man, there
was something much I could do about it. So I
just worried about myself.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Quite an exchange earlier in the piece of the press conference,
your coach Isaac Peach didn't take a backward step. He
let loose Jano. It was I suppose trying to make
friends and saying it's all okay, but he wouldn't have
a bar of it. That's quite a bit of tension there.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
That was Jenni BIG's brother, I think in that video
that's circulating around the west. But yeah, I think if
you're if you're going to try and like, I don't
know if there's some harder war trying to be peaceful
before the storm and stuff like. But I don't know
what it is. Man. But you know, sometimes when life
gets things get heated and you just deal with it
and then you move on. You can't like, h look

(06:42):
look at stuff too much and over analyze. It was
what it was and it happened. Then we're fighting tomorrow
and that's that or she wrote beby my bad.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
I was trying to work out it was him or
someone related, but he looked bloody. Similarly, let's move there
to one side, so you're pretty good not carrying this
into fights. You can separate this and put it to
one side before the bell rings.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Yeah, I'm a I'm a professional fighter man. My job
is to entertain and to perform and that's what I do.
Like none of us means older anything in the gym,
anything in the boxing ring. I'm one hundred percent serious,
hundred focus anything outside of the ring in terms of
meeting and that. It's all a big Floyd. It's a
big game and to be honest, I'm here, it's entertained
and make sure you guys enjoy the show. And so

(07:23):
far you guys have so like, I don't know why
anyone's complainings.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
I think that's part of the fight game, the build up,
all of it. It's all part of what it delivers.
And it's part of your sponsorship too. Who's been looking
after you? They name checks some sponsors from me Andre,
who are your friends?

Speaker 4 (07:38):
So I've got can we not do that right now?
We got r PM Reliable Performance Motos with Mike, they
look after me big time Glass projects with Murray Clark,
He's a g he helps me out. Dan Hannay from
Hannay Lawyers and Jack Colinson's from Colinson's for X and
Special shout out to Peach Boxing because they've looked after
me for years and years. And some are my family

(07:58):
and my best friends that are walking round with me
right now. About them, I would be anything.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
So it's so good you're entourage. How many people have
traveled with you? What kind of report do you get
from them?

Speaker 4 (08:11):
I don't know quite a few, but it's not really
my job to worry about that. I think, you know,
I think everyone's of age and adults and stuff like
that so they can sort themselves out. But I know
I've had like lots and lots of messages and phone
calls and that, and I really really appreciate it. But
I'm thankful. I'm just thankful to be here and I'm
thinking thankful for the sport that I get in life.
It's really really nice.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Has anything changed since Hianna Beek didn't make weight? You've
been waiting around about a month now. What's ultimate sudjusted
for you? As far as your preparation if anything.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Well, like we were real lucky because we had ten
weeks in Vegas. Sorry, we had ten weeks before the
Vegas Showdown where we went over to Australia and we
had to do all our prep work there, which was good,
which I really enjoyed. And then we'd already owned out
all the game plan stuff, so when this four weeks

(09:04):
came of, was just refreshing what we knew and we
went with another lay of confidence as well, so that
was all good.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
It's the waiting game, though, must be frustrating, but you
said you separate all that from what you do in
the gym and doing the ring, So not a problem
that that month of passing around.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
No, it was actually really good because I got to
go and spend time with my kids in that because
I spent ah man like I about to. I have
a diary, and I think twenty of the weeks leading
up to the July fight I had been away from
my kids, so I found that really hard. So to
be actually at home with them and take my boat
out on the water of them was really awesome and
I really enjoyed it. So it was nice to have
some family time. It was really, really really fun.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Tacnically, Andre, you're not going to go like a bull
of the gate. You're not going to run out and
win mull them straight away. You're going to actually work
your way into this fighter. Am I completely wrong?

Speaker 4 (09:55):
Well, you have to tune in and see what happens.
Whether it be first or it is the last, it
doesn't matter because I'm gonna have a blast. That's about it.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
So technically, you're not going to tell me everything just
in case they're listing. But what predominantly have you worked on?
Where do you see weakness? Is in the reigning world champion?

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Where do I see weaknesses? Oh, he's a good Eastern
European boxer. Man has done a lot of stuff in
his amateur career in that. But like I think he's
also I think he is also being backed because what
was pr by top rank. So we'll see man, We'll
see what he brings to the table. If he is, yes,
everything will be good. Man.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
And as far as your confidence always sky higher. But
if you did even daydream about putting that belt on,
is that part of your process?

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Andre? I already feel like I'm all a champion. I'm
not worried about caring abouts.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
That's the attitude. Really looking forward to it. Friday Night
going to be huge. And of course you've got Tamo
Motu on the undercard as well, so that works really well.
You've got a real cool New Zealand connection.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Yeah, it's fantastic to have me on the undercut me
as a fantastic fighter and as I can't wait, man,
I just can't wait to be part of the whole
show and deliver. And I can't wait to bring that
title home to New Zealand and be a proud champion
and represent New Zealand proudly.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
I shouldn't say undercard. She's comaine, isn't she?

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Yes, she is comaane. But my apologian fantastic. That's all good.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Don't tell her I said that, You'll slap me. It's
the last thing I need. Andre Mikaylovitch. Love watching your
rise and rise, wishing you the best. Get in there,
give it hell and walk out with your fists in
your hands and your gloves held high. Mate. Thanks for
your time, sir.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Thank you, thank you so much for going to the chamber.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Is now in session on Sports Fix.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Time to hop inside the chamber, Lean on a leaner
and discuss some of the sporting issues of the day.
Dos what's going on with the Silver Ferns two nil
down on the Tiny Jamison dead rubb her on Sunday?

Speaker 3 (11:55):
What what's happening to this state? I take umbrage with
that statement. For a start. I don't think an international
sport there is ever such a thing as a dead rubber.
If the teams treat it like so, don't even put
your dress on. I don't think dead rubbers should even
be mentioned. Do you mind being told off on a podcast?
You know I'm coming from here. Are you representing your nation?

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Right? No?

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Look, look, well I guess what I mean is that
regardless of where the New Zealand win, and I'm not
saying they won't go out, they to do exactly that.
They've lost the Tiny Jamison trophy. Yeah, I mean, but
you're right, I would expect them to go out there
and give everything to avoid another sporting cliche, a whitewash
and then the cargo. On Sunday night, I thought a
couple of the aspects of last night. Maddie Gordon coming

(12:38):
off just before halftime was interviewed on the broadcast, and
I was asked why she'd come off and she said,
I don't know. She's one of our best players. Dame
Nolen explained it afterwards, but yeah, I just wonder what
the trajectory of this team is, especially with Grace Wiki
of course on her way out next season.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yeah, in Dame Nolean, we trust. I suppose we have
to lean on that. Of course he's had trouble with
this team. And she really questioned Dyke Wayne Smith with
which wants to come back in and that main whistle
blow roll and actually coach this team. She's decided to
come back. So when you look at that, I'm sure
she didn't want to lose. There is the possibility that maybe,

(13:18):
just maybe the English are a better team now, and
they have been for a while. It's no longer a pushover.
And I think for the strength of Neple that that's
not a bad thing, is it, Piny No?

Speaker 2 (13:30):
I no, not at all, absolutely not. And I think
us in England are pretty close to one another. The
one point margin the other night proved that, and New
Zealand may well turn around and win on Sunday night
at inver Cargole. Yeah, I think these two are quite
close together. A little bit behind Australia, but quite close together.
I just would hate to think that they get a
bit of a roll on and win, win a clean sweep,

(13:51):
which is unusual. I need us to win. I need
us desperately to win on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Are we talking about the silver ferns here, not the
white fans? Okay, I don't think they've reached that stage yet.
Oh I'm sorry, ferns. I didn't mean that. I'm sorry,
I did. Sorry.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
We've actually got the white ferns, the black ferns and
the silver ferns playing across the weekend and their various codes,
so we'll keep eyes on all of those rugby now.
A number of all Blacks have been released back to
their NPC sides for the final round and round robin.
So good to see cam royguard back six months after
he needed surgery on a ruptured ptel attendon. They told

(14:26):
him the return is six months almost to the day.
He'll be back.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Terrific story of this and very focused on that. And
I'm sure the meadows all around him have given him
exactly what he needs to do to go back. But
you've got a sense for him, even though he knows
he's fully fit. How long does it take for a
pro sportsman at that level to really trust the surgery
and the rehabilitation they have had. There are so many
stories piny of things going awry, and we can't afford

(14:54):
for this guy to break. We've seen what we've got
in reserve and we know there's some good players coming through,
but Royguard is the man, so we have got our
fingers crossed that when he comes back and plays NPC
that nothing horrible happens to him. It's a a bit stressful,
I think for us and for Rasor Robinson specifically.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Speaking of halfbacks, I see now a Hopem's going back
to Tasman. They've already got Finlay Christie, so I wonder
what the what the talk is there? I mean, Christy
probably starts he's captain of the team, but they've got
an embarrassment of riches to use another cliche half backs.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Didn't that happen though, when they did not release Hope
them from the All Blacks. Everyone else came back to
play a bit and they will keep him here. It's like, yes,
why he hasn't played them? Thinking yeah, probably to yeah,
probably for the embarrassment factor and maybe that discussion has happened,
but you know you need that competition and Tasman at
the moment couldn't care less after defending their shield again,
only one more against Tartan Naki and they'll take it

(15:49):
into the breaker.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah, and I'll have hope them and Ethan Blackadder and
David Harveli. So they strengthened even more for the game
against the Amber and Blacks. Although they get Stephen Petter federback.
He hasn't played a little rugby lately though, so his
influence might be a bit limited.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
I think Tasman win and win well on Sunday and
lock away the shield for the summer, and to finish
on a summer sport, the Black Clash, a sport of
sorts of course, this heat and giggle Rugby v Crickets spartainment,
that's the word I'm after. Lou Vincent's going to play
in this. How do you feel about that? I feel
great about it now. What happened to lou Vincent was awful.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
It was all of his own making that lou Vincent
completely and utterly owned it. I think getting eleven life
bands was possibly the most over the top thing I've
ever heard. But he's been very, very active in the community.
He's definitely paid his penance, and I don't think that
anyone is going to say, you know what, you don't

(16:44):
deserve to be back that. I think all around, it's
a great story. I'm really pleased for lou Vincent anyway.
No one's going to disagree on a pinty No, I
don't think so.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
I'm totally on the same page as almost as though
I wrote some notes gave them to you to read out.
I feel exactly the same way. I think he's done
his time. He is completely remorseful and deserves to be
to be welcome back in this fashion into the game
that basically has formed such a huge part of his life.
He's admitted the horrible mistakes he made, and I don't

(17:13):
think we need to continue to punish him. One of
the game's great characters in his pomp, and I, for one,
I'm looking forward to seeing him welcome back into the game.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
I think we've run out of time in the chamber.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
They're banging on the door to get us out, so
we'll reconvene in here tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
I know I thought I heard the lock go. I
think we learning it forever. Poney, are you hungry?

Speaker 2 (17:34):
I would prefer if they let us out, Let us out.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
