The American Red Cross asked the public this week to help replenish the United States' depleted blood inventory amid a "severe" national shortage. Dr. Young discussed how the shortage is likely driven by a recent surge in trauma cases and emergency room visits, as well as advanced disease progression from patients deferring care throughout the coronavirus pandemic. She talked about where and how to give blood. o Dr. Rachel L. Levine serves as the 17th Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Levine discussed President Biden’s proclamation affirming June 2021 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) Pride Month, marking a time a time of hope, progress, and promise for LGBTQ+ Americans across the country. She discussed COVID and the LGBTQ+ communities and protection initiatives that HHS is working on.
