Speaker 1 (00:00):
Building strong, confident, capable kids in San Diego is the
goal of a program. It's called Kids Strong. Maybe you've
heard of it to Science Bass program. Bass program for
kids up to nine years old, and the idea is
to learn through fun and engaging activities. Pediatricians recommend it.
(00:20):
There's a location in Carlsbad, and now some San Diego
parents are trying to bring that location to Carmel Mountain Ranch.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Tucking to Gabe Euribe here on Sant Diego's Morning News,
I'm Clive Albert. Tell us, first of all, what Kids
Strong is.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
All about absolutely Kids Strong training program that builds strong,
confident and high character kids through a forty five minute
weekly age based class. The center itself, you walk inside,
you feel like it's a gym, But the program is
unique because it's not just the physical stuff that the
kids get trained on. Character development, brain development are all
high focuses for the program, which is one of the
(00:55):
reasons my wife and I fell in love with it.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
To begin with, how did you first discover Kids Strong?
Speaker 3 (00:59):
You and Melissa, Well, our mother in Laxley, worked from
a work friend about this program and knowing that my son,
who was four at the time, was a little bit
slow on the physical development. We were looking to boost
his confidence both socially and physically out on the playground.
One of the things that we learned about it was
that at ninety five or something percent of parents apback
that their kids had higher self confidence and self esteem
(01:21):
after going through the program. So we're like, that's exactly
what we need for him.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
And you've seen that happen to your your own son,
I take it.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Oh, absolutely, Yeah, he was a late walker. His running
was more of like a skip, and now looking at
what he was before and the way that he acts
and moves and carries himself, it's a night and day difference.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Now, this is for kids from early on, first born
basically to eleven years old. What are other parents telling you?
It must be some terrific stories that you hear from
parents who put their kids in this program.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Yeah. The great thing is that Kids Strong does new
surveys to find out exactly that. One fun one is
bordering food at a restaurant. You know what, four or
five year old you know out a restaurant is confident
enough to look at their menu, look up at the
waitress and say, this is what I would like and
to be able to do that kind of on their
own without being prompted by the parent. That's one of
the things, you know, socially that gets worked on within
(02:11):
the class.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Gab were you and Melissa were surprised by how much
it has helped your son and these other kids that
go through the program with both the physical and emotional
and social and how they're all kind of interacting with
each other.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Absolutely, the benefits for that whole child are tangible. Our
son is an early reader as well, and being able
to practice that in different environments during the class, for example,
being able to read what's on the screen, to follow
the directions that are there to share it with other kids.
The social interactions are quite a boon as well. Each
(02:44):
class starts off with a social greeting where kids say
have affirmation that I am strong, I am brave, I
can do this, and they shake hands with eflected class
captain and all the coaches introduce themselves, you know, with
a strong handshaken eye contact. So again, beyond the physical,
there's so much that this class and the program has
done for both of my kids.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
How easy is it to get the child in kids straw.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
No qualifications, The classes are age based, so it's all
depended on your availability and scheduling. The classes are age bands,
so walking to two, two to three, three to four.
But all of the program is parent focused, so it's
not just a drop your kid off. There is a
lobby viewing area where the parents sit and the coaches
will interact with the parents. They'll share why we're doing
(03:29):
a certain activity or why we're doing this certain game
to improve the kids either you know kids you know
socially or physically, and all that is communicated to the parents.
So it's definitely a family involvement during the class.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
It's interesting to hear what you and your wife, Melissa
have done to get involved and now running the new
Rancho Bernardo location, So tell us where it is and
how parents going to get involved.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Absolutely. Yeah, we actually just signed our lease. It was
a long time coming to find the right location. We
live in Poway, but I actually grew up in Ranch Opinionsquitos,
so this is my hometown, my stomping grounds. I had.
One of the wise reasons we wanted to open it
Kids Strong was to bring it to our community here
and this location we signed is just off the fifteenth Freeway.
On Bernardo Center Drive. We're looking to open either the
(04:13):
middle of summer towards the end of summer. We don't
have our social media up and running yet, but if
you head to kidstrong dot com dune Kidstrong Rancho Bernardo
will be one of the locations. We're very excited to
start doing some sneak peaks and previews for anybody who
is interested to come and learn more about the program
of what it can do for their kids.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
That was Gabie Rebe with Kids Strong.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
He and his wife are opening up that new location
in Rancho Bernardo, expected this summer.
